this time killing a dozen people across the center of the united states, three people in states -- three states wake up to find the rubble and total destruction that was their homes, once again. let's take another look at the monster tornado that ripped across the state of oklahoma this time, just hours ago. take a look. >> it's recording. it's recording. >> we're okay. we're okay. bill: you can hear the anxiety, can you, in the automobile, you need every cylinder in that thing to get out of the way. the people will join nous a few moments to talk about what it was like driving in that funnel cloud. kris gutierrez is in oklahoma, heading to the scene that was struck last night. where are you? >> are just outside of tulsa the tornadoes left a trail of damage in oklahoma, some 50 miles long, eight people now confirmed dead here in oklahoma, five of those deaths are in a heart hid -- hard hit area of canadiantown. there's a lake community there, where 35 homes have been leveled, and this morning, search and receipts cue -- rescue teams are dragging the lake, looking for victims, including a young child last seen affordingo owed according to officials hud ling in a bathtub with his mom and sister. mom and sister are okay but the toddler is now missing this morning. and also, we're told at least three of the deaths in the county along interstate 40, where cars were literally blown off the highway, officials say they were found 400 yards away from the highway. it is a sight to see in oklahoma. bill: they were given a warning, right kris? day after day, they know they're in the crosshairs of mother nature. i imagine the warning went out but what we heard two days ago was that the storm was so loud, it was louder than the warning sirens. have you heard about that again? >> reporter: i have. keep in mind, when this storm struck the state of oklahoma, right between 5:00, 6:00, a lot of people getting off of work, a lot of people, you know, ending their busy days, so it struck at a time when there were people on the road, when there were people out in shopping centers and malls and things like that that couldn't dissipate. but when you -- couldn't get to safety. but when you talk about a storm that was on the ground for 50 miles, we've seen images of hard hit op lin, missouri, remember that, bill, that storm was on the ground for 8 miles. we're talking about 50 miles in the state of oklahoma. how densely populated those areas are, we're starting to find out how but holy smoke, we're talking about a massive storm. bill: often, it takes us a while to get a true reading of the damage on the ground as the hours go by throughout the day. kris, thank you. when your crew gets set up, we'll go live to you. kris gutierrez. so many people are wondering about the storms this year and why they're so violent, so deadly. just in laymen's terms, this is the cold air coming in from the west, this is the warm air coming off the gulf of mexico. when these two systems collide, you get the jetstream from the west, that's what's help to drive these storms and the stronger the jetstream, the stronger the storms, and we have seen that time and again. if we can loop this again, we can show you yet again that cold air coming off the rockies, comes down to the planes and -- plains and the warm air collides and you have the magic formula for killer tornadoes that we've seen day after day and literally, week after week. we're watching this again, we're told there will be warnings out throughout the area and this is the area of concern. two days ago it was oklahoma, that's where kris gutierrez is, here's the severe weather threat in the ohio river valley today, just monday night, we had two hours of this stuff with the sirens going on and the clouds turning dark, then to green, and that's when you know you have to take cover. but the warning systems are out there. even though you have such great warning systems we're seeing these fatalities that gives you a measure of how intense the storms can be. martha: we're in the middle of a human tragedy at this moment. you heard kris gutierrez talking about that story, a family, they find each other, the toddler is missing. i mean, just imagine. and 1500 people, missing still in missouri. so those numbers of what we have dead in missouri are going to go up, and this story continues today as we are watching what's happening now and where these may land on the ground next. national forecasters, warning there is a new high risk system that is heading for the same area. they're predicting severe thunderstorms, which could hamper the cleanup and rescue areas in the hard hit tornado efforts. meteorologist maria molina has an update for us on where it is headed next. >> reporter: good morning. we do have a high risk issue for today and like bill mentioned, sometimes some of these tornadoes are just so powerful we really, even if we have advance notice, have nowhere to go. so when the warnings are issued for the area, please seek shelter immediately, go to a basement. that's the safest place to be. if you do not have one, try to stay away from windows and go to the inner most lower level of your hole and actually that one torpbd a --o torn aid know joplin, missouri has been upgraded to ef5 with winds over 200 miles an hour, so that's likely why we saw just such a large span of devastation over southwest missouri, and another risk for today. here's a look at that storm system spinning across the center of the nation, we have a new tornado watch for the state of illinois and is in effect until 1:00 p.m. central time. so that means that conditions are favorable for tornado development and we do have a new tornado warning across the central portions of the state, just for the northeast of st. louis, so seek shelter if you live in any of these areas. this is brand new tornado warning, meaning there's likely currently a tornado on the ground. today's severe weather threat extends from eastern texas through buffalo, new york. that's where ear going to see the thunderstorms firing up. the greatest risk is the area shaded in red and the high risk where it's likely we could see the long, strong tornado, ef4s and fives is in the area in white, including western parts of the state of kentucky and memphis, tennessee, so very populated areas that we'll need to keep an eye on. martha: we now know what an ef5 looks like in modern times, literally ripping the bark after trees and dropping debris 60 miles away. >> reporter: you can even see the debris on radar sometimes when it's so powerful and just those poles wiped, clean off the ground. so devastating stuff. martha: many of the deaths we've seen have been in mobile homes and in areas where people were told to leave. we hope people take the warnings seriously. thank you. according to the noaa, take a look at this, 2011, right now, it marks the eighth deadliest year for tornadoes deaths in -- tornado deaths in the united states but that could be easily ratcheted up that list. we have had more deaths this year than in the last eight years, all put together. and there are 1500 people who are still missing right now. we keep going back to that, but that is the urgent search going on in missouri. we're going to ask a meteorologist if there's any reason why this year, what has convened that has made this such an ongoing catastrophe and what a spring 2011 has been. bill: hitting population centers, too, joplin, missouri, the fourth largest city in that state, a single tornado obliterated one third of the town, rescue workers not giving up hope, 1500 said to be unaccounted for right now but that may mean that they have been out of communication with their families, with the communication lines down, they have moved on to other areas for shelter, the death toll in joplin, 122, 750 kwrurd -- 750 injured, people still being round in the -- found in the rubble, and the ef5, it's the strongest rating, with winds topping at 200 miles an hour, but those ef5 tornadoes are the most powerful and not common. between 1953 and last month, 55 ef5 twisters 2u67d down in the s*uts, so far this year, at least four of the ef5s have hit, two in mississippi, one in alabama and sunday's twister in joplin has just been upgraded to the highest category. we are watching that severe weather threat developing throughout the midwest today as that system moves east. we'll keep you updated on what you need to know, especially in those areas, because it is dangerous throughout and it has been deadly. martha: right. people need to take cover. obvious we'll keep on top of those warnings as they come here. stay here for that. in the meantime, back to politics for a moment. paul ryan, he believes that we must reform medicare. that idea is not sitting too well with some new york voters who have just elect dollars a democrat to fill a congressional seat that has been held by republicans for more than four decades. so this is getting a ton of attention as the democratic victory and a loss really for the paul ryan philosophy. is that what we're going to continue to see if that strategy gets repeated up to the 2012 election? dana perino weighs in on that coming up. bill: is john edwards in big, big trouble? the justice department reportedly green lighting a possible indictment for him. we'll explain in a moment. martha: plus, casey anthony's trial. this is going to be an incredible trial to keep an eye on, folks. a defense bombshell that came out. what we're going to hear from her lawyers, and what they are saying today. the trial has just gotten underway about 11 minutes ago. we're going to take you to all of that live, and we're going to hear more on the lines of this: >> you will hear about ugly things, secret things, things that people don't speak about. things that casey never spoke about. >> 4937 hope spring drive, you'd never know what secrets lie within. martha: what a morning this is in oklahoma city where the cleanup and rescue efforts are continuing right now across the area and the suburbs. take a look at this. they saw a string of violent storms, including this funnel cloud that you see in the video. it swept through the state less than 12 hours ago. here's reaction from people on the ground: >> where my particular home was located, we were ail to look out to the west and heard on the radio and on the news that the tornado was wrapped in rain, really bad, but you could see it coming, but we saw the black cloud, which we knew was rain and we knew it was in the rain, and we started watching t we were able to track it across the back of our property, and we knew it was going through town. martha: thank goodness they were in a shelter. better than debt flores of koki is in wagner, oklahoma. good morning, better than debt. -- -- drenadette. >> eight people are confirmed dead, about 60 injured across the state after that tornado you just saw, the incredible video, of that state, in chickasha county, one person was in his mobile home and he was killed last night and the seven continues for people trying to rescue people, and this morning, everybody thankfully there has been accounted for. as the storm moves kind of north through here, through tulsa, it seemed to have missed the greaters tulsa area, but we are in wagner county n. the fort gibson lake area and this community, just pelted by the storm. as you can see over here, there are downed trees everywhere. we just talked to that gentleman. he can't even get into his truck, much less his mobile home. right all around here, people returning home and thankfully they did evacuate. they're stunned at what they're seeing here. take a look over here, this is an incid ebl -- incredible site, a downed pare line that is shrewn across the area. when are they going to get power up? they don't know. this is going to be a serious repair here. thankfully, the county, near fort gibson lake, it's a vacation spot, so there's not a lot of people, so thankfully a lot had been evacuated and a lot of them don't live here full-time. that is the latest in wagoner county. back to you. martha: thank you very much for that. >> the average american household spends nearly 50 times more on health care today than it's spent in 1960. this translates into health care costs of more than $25,000 per u.s. family every year. as a result, health care spending has gone from consuming just 5 percent of our economy to nearly one fifth of our entire economy today. bill: that's republican paul ryan releasing that on his medicare plan, part two of his spear he's, after a special election putting a republican strong hold in the state of new york into the hands of a democratic congresswoman. some are suggesting medicare is the reason. kathleen hokle, winning a congressional seat held by republicans for more than 40 years, also a tea party candidate in that race, jack davis, got 9 percent of the vote. dana per perino, white house press secretary, former, and fox news contributor currently. how you doing dana, good morning to you. pick up any newspaper, website, they're writing about a ref r-pbdum. >> let's unpack this a little bit. the tea party candidate who got 9 percent of the vote really wasn't a tea party person. he was a democrat who had run several times before, kind after spoiler in the race. bill a lot of money, too. >> sure. there are a lot of blessings -- lessons in this. one, if you're a congressman, don't put a picture of yourself and put it on kra*eugs list and have a special election. first lesson. second is if you're a republican and going to run in this cycle you'd better be prepared and better be willing to fight hard and run a very good campaign because no one, republican or democrat, is safe in this type of political environment. bill: we mentioned that it's a republican district. a pweuft an edge. but a democrat has won there before. i think between 1993 and 2003. but on the paul ryan issue, he was on fox & friends, about 35 minutes ago, he is one of the most vocal in terms of supporting what he says is a plan and a program that cannot sustain itself and you have to do something, otherwise, it goes broke. here's ryan from moments ago: >> in a preview of scare tactics, distortions, demagoguery, to try and scare seniors to voting for them, and the irony of it is we are the ones protecting medicare, current benefits for current senior, they're the ones that passed a law that actually compromises their medicare and allows the program to collapse. so we have a year and a half, and i believe in a year and a half's time, the truth will get out, the facts will be known. bill: his pig point is that the truth is not getting out in. >> for years. bill: and washington is not speaking the truth. >> for a decade. and so last year, republicans, or two years ago, in 2010, when president obama finally got his health care bill passed on the democratic only vote, republicans said wait a second, you're cutting medicare, how is this possible, now the democrats are going no, we're going to save medicare and back and forth and the only one in this debate so far has been paul ryan who stands up the mer it's, he knows more about this than anybody and said i'm the only guy who's willing to tell you the truth, this entitlement program will run out of money if they won't do something now. bill: but the health care law cuts $500 billion from medicare. >> million, i think. bill: $500 million. >> yes. bill: over a period of i think -- what is it, 8-10 years? >> in the long run, the point is when you have as many baby boomers as you have now and for the next 20 years who are going to retire and enter into a system that is going to go broke, that what he's saying is you cannot fix the debt and preserve this program, paul ryan's brand is the most common sensecyical and gradual we can have. his point is if we don't do this in the next year and a half, hold on to your wallets. bill: he has staked his future on t. paul ryan has. >> but he doesn't care about that. bill: and we'll have this debate on a national level. i want to talk about giuliani. we're out of time, but next time. >> next time. martha: senate majority leader harry reid now says that democrats, they don't need to come up with a budget of their own, even though it has been, listen to this, two years since the senate passed any budget bill, okay? republican senator jeff sessions says that they aren't going anywhere until they get something on the table finally. he joins us to talk about that in a couple of minutes. bill: martha, reports of serious trouble on the way for john edwards, why the former presidential candidate's affair with a staffer may land him in a federal courtroom, very soon >> bill: texas was not spared from this weather. check out the funnel cloud in ponder, texas, denton county, population, 500 people. look at that slender line there. parallel across the sky, northwest of dallas. bad storms overnight there, but no reports of serious injuries. martha: all right. well, it is face the music time for john edwards. federal prosecutors have reportedly begun the process, and they are expected to indict him on charges that he illegally used a million dollars of campaign money to cover up an affair that he had are rielle hunter, who was on his campaign staff, he fathered a child with hunter but that was denied by him for two years. the details started coming out when his long time aide, andrew young, who was a witness in this case, started to spill the beans. >> he would help arrange these three-way calls. >> di. >> you would drop the bat phone, as you called t. on the airplane so he could sneak behind his wife. >> i did. >> ands facilitated these rendezvouses. >> i did. >> why would you do that? >> first and foremost, there's no logical or rational reason for why i did it. >> judge andrew napolitano on the the -- of "freedom watch". taking a look at your take on this, it sounds like you think plea or trial, john edwards will go to jail. >> i think so. the government has a very, very strong case, martha. the fact that he denied fathering the child is not the crime whafplt is the crime here is the use of funds which were told under oath to the federal government that they were legitimate campaign funds in order to pay off someone, his mistress, to remain silent. that is a classic case of the misuse of federal campaign funds. it is a classic violation of this law. it carries five years in jail. there's also the conspiracy aspect. he conspired with a young man that you ran a clip of, you showed him interviewing, and he conspired with others, the people contributing the money, so he's facing two, five-year charges. the evidence of guilt on both is overwhelming, these facing ten years in jail, you serve it 85 percent of the time, you're talking eight years in jail for someone who ran for president twice. martha: it's an incredible fall from grace for john edwards and he faces the music, as i said. let me ask you a question. just to pare it down, as you point out, the moral issues really here are not what happened with his family, it's whether or not this campaign fund money was misused and fred baron, who died back in 2008 is said to be one of the major contributors to this million dollars coverup fund and is said to have acknowledged that. if that money was not labeled as campaign fund money, if these two people had just given him a gift, a personal gift of this money and he could use it the way he wanted and he used it to cover it up, would he be in the trouble he's in now? >> no he would not be. the actual crime is the signing of documents to the federal government certifying that all the money collected and all the money spent was used for campaign purposes, and that statement, which he obviously signed, is untrue. so it's a form of perjury, if you will. the law actually gives him a break. many times when you commit a crime like this they charge you for each check you've written but in the campaign finance case, if the total amount of money is 25 -- misspent is 25,000 or more and here it is alleged that the government can prove it's a million, it's one count, one violation, and five years in jail. martha: all right, well, we'll see if a plea deal is likely to carry a one-year jail term in all of this. >> yes. martha: we may see john ed washington, as you point out, could have been vice president of the united states, head to jail and a fascinating case and tough decline for him and certainly his family. >> indeed. martha: catch the judge every night, 8:00 potential on the fox business network. there he is pointing at you! thank you judge. bill: thank you. chasing down danger, danger that can be deadly. watch here: >> it's recording. bill: that is out of canton, oklahoma. we will talk to the storm chasers you hear on that tape in a moment. martha: plus, there is this today. as the trial is underway right now, it has now begun, day two and the bombshell that was dropped in the casey anthony murder traoeufplt we've got live pictures coming in from inside the courtroom now, casey's defense, essentially putting casey's father now on trial. here is a look back when the little girl, kalee, was missing, nearly three years ago. this is george anthony. >> you people have no idea what we're going through, you guys don't feel t. you don't care about me, you don't care about her, you don't care about my granddaughter, you don't care about none of this stuff. shut up. i am talking. i am talking. i've had it. i've had it with all of you. i'm trying to -- you guys don't care -- i'm trying to find my grand tkaufplt you guys don't care about that. martha: a live report will take to you the courthouse, next. bill: there is heart break yet again in the heartland, the death toll from the latest storms in oklahoma, kansas and arkansas, now at 13 and climbing, and this was the latest image from that storm: >> we're okay. bill: from out of oklahoma, including one tear ago path of destruction 50 miles long, man, eight dead in oklahoma, dozens more injured, and it's been storm after storm after storm. this had nothing to do with the day before that. most of those killed from last night lived in the oklahoma city area, a storm chaser and severe weather photographer robert hutchins is with me now, also his fiance, mariah lee is with me. good morning, robert. you say you've chased turns of tornadoes in your lifetime but this one was different. why? >> just the instability in the atmosphere. this tornado came down just so rapidly, going from just enelephant's trunk tornado into a massive wedge. it was fortunate this was just over water at the time. bill: how far did you drive before you were out of harm's way? >> you know, the reason that i actually moved from the starting position of the camera was because the inflow winds, i was worried it was going to tip the car over. that highway runs over the spillway there on canton lake, over the dam, the east-west -- east-west road, and i thought the tornado would move to the north where cents there's -- and actually build to the south, and i just thought just to be safe, on a high risk day like yesterday, i'd rather be out of the way than take a chance. bill: very high risk. i me mariah is with you, too. can you hand her the phone? we heard her on that videotape. are you with me? i know you've chased a lot of storms but this one scared you, didn't it? >> yes it did. bill: why? >> it was so massive and so close, it was terrifying. bill: how many storms have you seen, mariah? >> about 13. bill: will you do it again? >> of course! >> bill: yeah, why? >> because this is the intensity of it is just so thrilling. and it's all so beautiful. bill: you also realize the danger, too. what did you do yesterday to avoid that possibility of a fatality or injury to you an your fiance? >> i just kind of, you know -- i freak out a little bit and let him know that it was time to go. we were just watching where it was going and made sure we stayed out of the way. bill: it's nice to hear your voice, mariah. when's the wedding date? >> we're not sure yet. bill: good luck with that and thank you for sharing your story. robert and mariah found a whopper yesterday and they found a story they will have to tell for a very, very long time. martha: they'll be happy together, chasing those storms around! hopefully they'll have a less eventful spring next time around. meanwhile noaa is releasing stunning numbers on this deadly tornado outbreak. this year's violent storms as you would imagine, looking at these pictures, are going to be in the record books, folks. take a look. 2011 is currently ranked the eighth deadliest year. we are counting 481 fatalities so far in these storms. 1925 is the one that you see that popped up in the middle there, that is the deadliest year, nearly 800 lives were lost in that year, however, this chart was updated last monday, so that bar chart for 2011 is unfortunately growing, and may overtake some of those other storms that we've seen. mark mancuso is an accuweather.com meteorologist and joins me now. it raises the question, what's happening, what's going on in the atmosphere, why are we seeing all of this? >> well, it's very complicated, of course, but one of the years that you mentioned there, 1925, a little bit with this year, we're coming out of a la nina, where you have the cold water in the pacific ocean. what you get is a stronger jetstream that does occur. so you get this powerful jet that comes in from the northwest and brings in the storm systems. as you're aware of, this has been unusual weather in the west, all the way down to southern california, a sign that the storms are coming in. also we've had this drought going on in the southwestern united states, it's been very dry here, and in the southeast, we've also had some rather warm water in the gulf of mexico. it's been extremely dry, waters were pretty warm early, and we have this powerful jetstream. the factors that you need for thunderstorms, low level, warm, moist air, middle level dry air, they've been to the extreme this weather. the factors come together to get strong storms in the springtime, particularly may in the parts of the south but this year, all the ingredients come together and each ingredient seems to be of the extreme variety. martha: i spoke with a storm chaser yesterday who talked about this perfect storm, all of these dynamics coming together in a perfect way that has been gentlemen impressure effect for all those suffering on the ground in the midwest. so the next question is, mark, when does this dynamic change? is there anything you can see in the weather pattern that shakes it out of this mode we're in and when is that happening? >> reporter: okay, well, we have already seen some changes. if i could just go back to the month of april, we have a big ridge off the east coast, the very warm waters in the gulf, that led to a strong flow coming up here to the south, and with the powerful systems coming in from the west. that's why we had those strong storms in the southeast. now the pattern is changing. it does look like we'll see a summery pattern, as this pulls to north, things should quiet down across the southern and central plains. martha: thank you very much, mark mancuso from accuweather.com. bill: we rely on viewers for a lot of our coverage because we can't get everywhere. if you have video, pictures, e-mail it to us, foxnews.com, give us your name and location, we'll try to get that on throughout the day awe again, as we always say, especially these times, stay safe if you're out and about. in the meantime, there are stunning developments in the casey anthony murder trial. her attorney, jose baez saying that kalee anthony was not murdered but instead drowned in the family pool and george anthony, casey's father, covered the whole thing up. here's george anthony on the stand. listen: >> did you have any role or any knowledge that kalee marie anthony died on june 16th, 2008, prior to recent revelations? >> no, sir, i never had any duct tape, i never knew of anything that happened to kalee until our lives started to unfold on july 15th, 2008, and when kalee was found on december 11th. bill: prosecution put him on the stand first, the very first witness in this trial. phil keating watches it live out of london. good morning. opening statements were nothing short of stunning, explosive. and some might even say risky. explain. >> reporter: well, they're alleging insist by george anthony with his daughter casey anthony, the first degree murder defendant here who's facing a potential death penalty if she's found guilty. so they raised this issue for the jury of insist and sexual abuse. that may have to require putting casey anthony on the stand herself. otherwise, it's just sitting out there. you want to twins the jury of this, at least enough to have reasonable doubt. let's take a look at casey anthony as she walked into the courtroom this morning, looking calm, relaxed, quite unlike how she looked throughout most of the day yesterday. yesterday, she was crying throughout, the prosecutor's opening statement, as well as her own defense attorney's opening statement, as he spelled out there was no missing child, actually, that was all a lie. she died accidently, little kalee, in the swimming pool in the back yard, and that casey anthony had an accomplice, her father. >> casey came around this corner and went back, she saw george anthony holding kalee in his arms. she immediately grabbed kalee and began to cry. and cry and cry. and shortly thereafter, george began to yell at her, look what you've done. >> reporter: emotional, emotional and explosive day yesterday. cameron campane, who she lived with that 31 day period while kalee was allegedly missing, he took the stand and basically for the state, he said she seemed very happy throughout that entire 31 days, bill. bill: day two underway already. thank you, phil keithing in orlando. one # minutes. martha: we'll have a legal panel, it's unablable. we're keeping an eye on the developments. severe weather is affecting good old baseball games out there. wait until you see what causes the texas rangers to evacuate the entire stadium in the middle of the game. bill: that's not easy to do, is it. senate republicans demanding to see the democrats' budget but harry reid says he doesn't think they need one. oh really? what the researchinging -- ranking republican on the budget committee has to say about that, live, next. bill the battle over the budget taking a turn on capitol hill, senate majority leader harry reid suggesting no plan on the budget is necessary. it's been 756 days since the senate last passed a budget and has republicans shaking their heads. what does my next guest think about that? alabama senator jeff sessions, how you doing, senator? >> bill, i'm fine, but not a happy camper. bill: why are you not a happy camper? first of all, what do you think about harry reid's comment, first? >> i think it's utterly irresponsible, bill. the united states code requires the congress to pass a budget. the republican house did their duty. they passed a budget that would actually help america, short term and long term, and for reid to announce it would be fool toeurb pass a budget, what i meant by that it wouldn't be foolish for america, for the public interest, he meant it was a political gimmick and it would be foolish for him not to do what the law requires him to do. bill: you wrote a letter, all 47 republicans signed it, i'll get to that in a moment, but you say he's just playing politics on this. >> absolutely. he intends to bring up the house budget and ask his democratic majority in the senate to vote it down and then attack the house members and never once produce his plan on how to fix the debt crisis here in, and we're in a serious crisis. the american people understood that last election and i'm amazed that the congress is so gir responsive. bill: i want you to reaction to this, he told the l.a. times it would be foolish to do a budge at this stage because he's waiting on the vice president's meetings on the budget and also the gang of six or five or how many they have today and kent conrad, a democrat on the budget committee, he says he's happy to wait a bit and see what the committees produce. what is wrong with that approach senator? >> it's not the lawful process. it's not open. it's all secret, bill. we should already have begun having public markups and public votes on how to deal with the future of our country. it's not going to be able to handle that way. we can do this. the american people have a right to see their representatives, to hear the debate, and see us vote own wi or the other on the difficult, difficult choices we face. i wish we didn't face difficult choices, but we do. bill and you say -- we've got to rise to the occasion. bill: i've got the letter, you had all 47 republicans sign here. you say in this letter this is the quote most important budget debate in our lifetime. why? >> absolutely, bill. the reason is we're facing the deepest decifits we've ever had, and they are systemic in nature. they're not going to go away when the economy comes back. we are in a very, very real fiscal crisis as the debt commission told us. it's the most predicable economic crisis the nation has ever faced, and it's long terpblgs and we need to take steps now too foe we don't, this economy will not respond the way it should. it's very fragile now. we need to send a message we've got our business in order, washington has done its part, and all we're seeing from the other side is objection to real action. bill: we'll see if that changes in time. but thank you for your time today, senator, senator jeff sessions out of alabama. martha: take a look at the scene in irving, texas, hail literally punching holes in an suv's window. can you believe that? there's much more damage than that, though. we're going to go live to texas next. also this for you. wall street traders accused in an oil plot. did they manipulate the markets to drive up prices? the justice department is now filing suit. we'll be right back. bill: going to check the markets now, trading about 23 minutes and we're treading water, down eight points on the dow 30, europe's debt crisis, japan's economy, so many reasons to watch for a possible sign of what may happen at home. we were off 25 points in trading on tuesday. we'll watch it for you. martha: violent weather sweeping across the plains, making for terrifying moments in the dallas-fort worth area, the wail of storm sirens sending folks to shelter, thousands stranded at tkaol as -- dallas fort worth airport from a storm that spit out golf sized hail. they had to evacuate the rangers white sox game. that's hail, not balls on the baseball field. our affiliate joins us live from irving, texas. dan, tell us about it, the incredible pictures we're seeing. >> reporter: it's really something to see, martha. a lot of property damage throughout dal apbsd fort worth, we're talking roofs partially torn up, fences down, power lines down, trees, uprooted. there was a report of a tornado touching down near denton, that is north of dallas, but most of the damage that we're talking about caused by strong winds and very strong hail storms. we're in an apartment complex in irving that's just west of dallas and we showed you the picture before, that chevy suburban there, the side window full of holes that the hail, this mitsubishi in front of me, the entire back window, just knocked out from those hail stones ranging from golf ball to sometimes softball sized hail. look across the parking lot, same story for that red dodge, the back window, knocked out. then you move down a couple of cars, there's a silver ford, it lost its window as well. we're also seeing windows on the apartments also knocked out in this complex, off in the distance a bit there, there's that one window, the blinds kind of torn up by the wind and the hail and the glass broken as well. so today, around dallas and fort worth, roof repair services, window services, and windshield repair going to be very, very busy, they're going to be booked for several days, probably a few weeks to repair all this damage. reporting live in irving, dan godwin. martha: it looks lying vandal, you know? it looks like someone vandalized the area. bill: we're getting word again, there are more watches out there, in some cases, there are warnings again at this hour. we'll get you updated on that, this deadly storm tearing across the heartland. in a moment, restoring the lives of so many with the mayor of one of the hardest hit areas. >> i'm -- it's all gone. everything. you try to think -- i remember last night, laying in bed. i keep thinking about that. and now, you visualize where you are, and now it's all gone. at triscuit, we're a fan of simple gredients. so we seeded that into something much bigger... the home farming movement. join us at homefarming.com. some constipation medications can take control of you. break free. with miralax. it's clinically proven to relieve constipation and soften stool with no harsh side effects. just gentle predictable relief. miralax. martha: we're getting word that we'll get a news conference from joplin, missouri on the tornado that struck there on sunday, 1500 people, still looking to account for there. we may get an update on that as well, we'll take you there as soon as that gets underway and as away wait for that, there's a new round of killer tornadoes, that sliced through the nation's heartland overnight. look at this. martha: that is one of the several deadly tornadoes that ripped through the midwest and the south and we're beginning to learn the scope of the destruction and devastation left behind by that, this is a brand new hour of "america's newsroom," welcome, good morning, i'm martha maccallum. bill: good to see you. martha: good to be here, bill. bill: remember me? martha: sure document missed you, buddy. bill: being home a couple days ago, we had two hours of tornado warnings monday night and frankly i was impressed by how much local coverage there was. to get the word out and let people know there was danger and a possibility of something that could go very wrong, it did not, however, which is great news and it is note same in other states where the powerful tornadoes striking again, this time, shredding towns in oklahoma, kansas and arkansas and the death toll riding, the latest round, 13 are dead at the moment. many more, though, missing and we're getting new video of the monster storm. here's what some saw in oklahoma. martha: look at that. you can see it in front of the houses it gives you a real feel for how large they are. the elephant trunk shaped tornado and, they go into a huge barrel and we are getting the images of what has been left behind, look at the video from oklahoma, one of the hardest-hit states in last night's band that cut through the state literally like a buzz saw and survivors described the scene of what it felt like, after it went through. >> the house here, we had a three-car garage, two story garbage, apartment, silo, another house, my wife's new car was in the garage, in the tree, and... she got hailed on and, trailers, you know, flatbed trailers, are nowhere to be found, it is totally gone, everything. martha: it is unbelievable and you try to imagine your own home or your own town when you cannot picture what used to be there and you are trying to remember, the things that you had there. mayor matt white, from oklahoma joins me on the phone. our hearts go out to you guys. it has been unbearable. for all of you. how are you doing? >> caller: well, we're doing good. we are trying to pick up the pieces and get a sense of everything and go forward. and try and make everything work and see what our next steps are. martha: tell me about, you know, as you woke up this morning and you got a look at this and started to go out around your town, what went through your mind and what were the people saying to you, as you saw them out there on the streets? >> caller: well, of course i called the -- most of the tornado was to the west of us, and, i called a good friend of mine, mike crowley out there and they are still without power, and... the damage is just amazing, how you can see literally everything stripped and then all of a sudden you see everything is right there, it is incredible. martha: last night i was watching shepard smith's show and after it went through, there was an aerial shot and you could see like a line through the dirt that went right across, and, some areas on either side looked perfect and you could actually see the dirt that was just churned up along the ground as it went through. it is so striking and, if it weren't so devastating an horrible for so many people you would be in awe of the incredible power of these things. >> caller: you are correct, martha and that is exactly what it is. all of a sudden it is' rain storm and then, you get the wind around you and all of a sudden, we saw... it just is truly devastating. what a tornado can do. but we're fortunate here, most of us, it went to the communities of piedmont and, they got hit pretty hard and down below us, and so we're fortunate here. martha: but, at the time, what were your people told? i'm curious how much warning you get as to the path. does someone say, it looks like we are okay? or was everybody underground or in as much shelter as they could possibly get into? >> caller: it goes back to the first response team, in oklahoma we are astute to the tornado factor. the alarms went off, all over town and they were good about everybody getting around and everybody got shelter and the news stations, were well on top of it as far as storm trackers and keeping in touch with what was going on and so that was really important. martha: we hear stories about people and, obviously, in joplin as well, as the towns we are looking at in oklahoma and they are trying to figure out what hit them. it is incredible. and you hear stories of a family where there is a toddler missing, and, you know, the amount of heart break is difficult for people who are outside of your area to truly understand. you know, how do you begin to help the towns around you kind of pick up the pieces and get back out there? >> caller: i think, it goes back to our government, and, the state of oklahoma, our people are doing a good job working with this and, we're in the county seat of the county and the smaller communities, piedmont and others, we have a command structure up there and reno, up here, reno, and, in charge of it now and communications between us and the state are really the key to the whole process and i think the oklahoma -- they are doing a great job. we have had calls from senators an representatives, lucas and they called our office, and what we needed to do and all the situations, people are stepping up and really taking charge of things and we are thankful of what is going on. martha: boy, devastation, for some of these people, the worst day of their lives for so many of them and for the family, our thoughts and prayers are with them. matt white, the mayor, thank you so much, good to have you with us, sir, and good luck to all of you. >> caller: thank you, martha, appreciate that and keep the prayers coming. thank you. bill: you are right, the worst day of their lives for those who lived through it. a stunning day they'll never, and can never forget. the same system we talked about now, claiming lives in neighboring states, arkansas, three people dead in storm related incidents including one tornado touch down and, also a number of injuries and the numbers are sketchy and kansas two people died when the downed tree hit the suv and the storm damage severe enough to shut down the highway 100 miles west of wichita, in kansas. martha: and tennessee the national weather service is now confirming a tornado touched down monday, in the northern part of the state, near clarksville and thankfully we have no reports of any deaths or serious injuries there. but the winds hit 120 miles an hour, and any other spring that would be, you know, the high-water mark for the winds we are seeing but as we now know the one that hit joplin was over 200 miles per hour, incredible. look at what happened here in tennessee. >> they say it sounds like' train, it does. >> i have seen trees fall on the car port and roofs fly off the building here and i went into the house and that is when it hit. >> by the time you heard it, it was there. martha: nobody tells it better than these folks who were there and heard it and saw it. like that little boy. if you have any images of what happened in your area, send those to us at ureport@foxnews.com and please, don't put yourself in any danger to do that but if you can safely do that, we appreciate them. at foxnews.com. bill: cute young boy, he lived through it and in joplin, missouri, you have 122 dead and, rescuers are not giving up hope they'll find more survivors, three days after the massive tornado ripped the city in half and crews with search dogs combing debris piles responding to any reports or signs of people trapped. we're also hearing chilling details of what it was like to live through it. >> after the window broke, it was just a matter of seconds, before that entire building was lifted. >> when i lifted my head, when it stopped, it was just the most... just so hard to even imagine, all you could see was just... flat. >> it was the worst feeling that i had, 'cause you just don't know. there is nothing that can prepare parents, knowing that something like that is going on, and you have no idea ever if they are alive or not. bill: the lucky ones lived through it. mike tobin is live in joplin, the latest there, a news conference in underway and there were tornado sirens again, going off last night and was there a warning in your area, mike, again? >> reporter: yeah, there was a warning in the area and the people here in joplin feel like they got a little bit lucky this time because the sirens wailed and they huddled in the shelters one more time and this time the storms dodged joplin, missouri and as i'm talking let me step out of the way. i cannot get over the visual impact of this apocalyptic scene of destruction. the eroded hills, denuded trees, the destruction stretches as far that's eye can see here, bill. but for the first time there was not rain coming down and, they went through the debris field and went out with the dogs and the flashlights, trying to find some signs of life. now, three nights after this tornado hit, they are still holding out hope that somewhere in that vast debris field in the pockets of the debris there still are people clinging to life. bill? bill: let's hope they are. and we find them soon. mike tobin, thank you. joplin, missouri, we'll take you live to the press conference when we get more information out of what is happening there, 122 dead and a town cut in half. martha: as you know and as i said, most people run from these ferocious tornadoes and other people, who we have gotten to know quite well this week head toward them, capturing unbelievable footage like this. we'll talk to a storm chaser who got this video and they'll tell us their story. bill: and a special election for congress, could the result of that race play a role in paul ryan's proposed medicare overhaul? we'll debate it, fair and balanced with a great panel, coming up. martha: and this willed be the trial of the summer, folks. casey anthony's lawyer has now dropped a bombshell in court. the shocking accusations the defense team is now making against that man, george anthony, coming up. >> did you have any role or any knowledge that caylee marie anthony died on june 16th, 2008, prior to recent revelations? there's a whole world missing when you search on orbitz. like eve single american airlines flight. orbitz doesn't have them. but you'll find all 3,400 of them at aa.com. every day. i wonder who it was that first put a strip of bacon next to an egg. which came first? the bacon or the egg? i know what's going down first. denny's. america's diner is always open. bill: we have more incredible video now. this time a tornado in wisconsin. from a surveillance camera on board a city bus in lalacrosse,n a manner of seconds, debris is pelting the bus and winds reaching 120 miles per hour, no one on board was hurt and no serious injuries reported anywhere else in the area, the tornado one of five to hit the state and the bus was up and running the next day, that is what you see and hear. so many different stories. martha? martha: top democratic leader nancy pelosi now says a democratic victory in a republican strong hold has sent a message to republicans who support paul ryan's medicare overhaul plan, kathleen hoekel winning the congressional seat during a -- kathy hochul winning, and after that statements attacked paul ryan's g.o.p. plan, the house budget committee chairman says democrats are playing politics with' serious issue and here's what he said. >> the preview of scare tactics, distortion, demagoguery to scare seniors to vote for them and the irony is we are protecting medicare, current benefits for current seniors and they passed the law that actually compromises their medicare and allows the program to collapse and we have a year-and-a-half and i believe in a year-and-a-half's time, the truth will get out, the facts will be known. martha: all right, let's talk about this. alan colmes is the host of the alan colmes radio show, and, a deputy assistant to former president george w. bush. alan, to you first. clearly, this is going to be seized upon as an issue that democrats think will be a winning one for them as it was for the candidate up in new york state. >> certainly, medicare played into it but neither side should be overconfident about it and democrats shouldn't take it to the bank and say we found our issue for a year-and-a-half now and paul ryan is right. you have a year-and-a-half to go and this factored into it but it is funny to watch conservatives accuse democrats of scaring seniors when they brought us the quote-unquote death panel and invented the game of scaring seniors when they talked about the affordable care act. this is talking about what republicans want to do, turn over to a voucher or block grant system which would deny certain benefits to people of a certain age and that is a fact, not even debatable. martha: how about the lady in the commercial, alan where they push the wheelchair with the old woman in it and a guy dressed like paul ryan, literally pushes her off the cliff! how about that. >> a third-party ad and that was certainly, certainly effective, as you are talking about it. but -- you cannot deny the invention of scaring people happened with the affordable care act. martha: happens on both sides, which is why it is so extremely important we really talk in terms of the facts here. brad, in terms of the -- talk a little bit about how you see paul ryan's plan and he's really made an effort this morning, put out a video, he was on one of our shows, earlier this morning, trying to make clear what his plan would really do. >> martha, let me say the special elections are not bellwethers for national elections coming down the pike in 2012. and, democrats can crow and nancy pelosi can take a victory lap on the special election, but, it really is meaningless. if anything, what happened in district 26 is this: the tea party can upset the apple cart for republicans. here you had a situation where a well-funded tea party backed candidate who happened to be a democrat, by the way, took votes away from the republican and i believe caused the republican the win and so you have to really analyze what went down in that race. and, certainly, it is not a national bellwether on medicare or medicaid for 2012. >> brad, you know -- >> having said that, i think ryan has a plan and democrats don't. and what ryan is saying is, medicare is going bust. that is a fact. and, republicans at least have a plan on the table to act as compromise, if the democrats would come and give us their plan. >> i'd like to point out there were 7 points between the two candidates and you presume all of those votes would have gone to hochul or, rather to the republicans on the other side -- >> yeah, i mean, everybody knows -- he was a tea party spoiler and -- let's move on. i think we should move on, that election is done. but, the medicare issue is going to be front and central and, it should be stated that paul ryan stated earlier today, that his plan is not looking at people who are currently receiving medicare. or people who are about to retire. his plan is sport the really young folks like all of us, who won't be retiring for a really long time. and, that it needs to be saved, the program, in order to continue to take care of all of us, when we are in our old age, that is the idea. >> pretty much, this is never going to have a chance, it will not get to the democratic senate and be signed by the white house and is not a realistic plan, politically the will is not there, the majority -- to pass the plan and, it is dead in the water, dead on arrival and they aren't really serious -- >> but, alan it is a realistic plan. martha: one last comment and we're out of time, guys. go ahead. real quick. >> it gives a baseline for republicans at least the show they're thinking about a problem that will affect every american in the very near future and the democrats are putting their heads in the sand, refusing to acknowledge that -- >> this is the -- one of the central battles and we'll see it play out, in specific terms as we go forward, have to save medicare one way or the other. thanks, guys, alan, good to have you and brad, good to see you, as always. bill: in the meantime, gas prices high at the pump and a government lawsuit going after wall street traders. does the government have a case on collusion? and, this... martha: a team of storm chasers on the ground in oklahoma. we have more of that amazing video, from the people who go out there and shoot the stuff, coming up next. >> everything is gone. it is all gone. my... everything. you try to -- i remember last night, laying in bed and i keep thinking about that and, now, you visualize where you are and, now it is all gone. there is nothing and you can find it or it is pounded into the ground, and it is really destructive. martha: sad news to report, this morning. cnbc anchor mark haines, who was on squawk box for many years and i worked with him my years at cnbc, great guy and wonderful family man, his children will miss him and his wife and all of his colleagues, at cnbc, shocking news, he passed away, just announced on cnbc, a short time ago, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, he will be missed by so many in this business, he was one of the pioneers of the financial business news coverage, and a great market reporter, who worked at the stock exchange for many years and we will miss him, mark haines, dead, at 65. all right, we'll go now to the live shot we are watching, you can see on the left-hand side of your screen, waiting for president obama to deliver his speech before parliament, he'll be in the house of commons, just arrived at westminster as he continues to move through the process. the president is currently halfway through the six-day, four-country european tour, the trip aimed at reinforcing alliances as the u.s. seeks to strengthen ties with emerging powers as well, and, when they head to the g8, such as china and india, keep one eye on that. bill: and, rooting out corruption in the oil markets. two traders accused in a scheme to manipulate oil prices in 2008, prices were sky-high and the alleged fraud occurred before the new crack down and eric bolling, the anchor of follow the money, the fox business network. good morning to you. does the government have a case. >> the government does have a case. they have a case. look, speculation in itself is not bad. it's not illegal. it actually provides liquidity for markets that need liquidity, a good thing but when you get 1, 2, 3 or more speculators involved in a price collusion scheme, that is market manipulation. bill: collusion is the issue. is it difficult to prove? >> it is difficult -- it was difficult to prove, but, four years ago there was a case, and they lost $8 billion and found out they were making calls to the trading floor, trying to collude with traders on the floor and now they randomly take calls and if they get a hot phone call or e-mail and they say two groups of speculators got together to decide price. here's what they did, quickly. they held the pen open, there is a great concert in the tent and, it is' great concert, come on in and then they yelled fire, and, they closed the door. bill: this is april of '08 and you build up to memorial day, holiday weekend and gas prices go up higher anyway and the price for a barrel of oil was $119 a barrels. >> on its way to $147, and market forces were pushing prices up but if you have two or three big speculators getting together, illegal. bill: you talk about this on your show? >> i will, a good friend of mine, who is quoted in the article, a regulator, and he'll tell us that specifically calculation in itself is not bad tor illegal but, cocluding. bill: okay. and -- >> can i say, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of mark. he will be missed. >> and, well loved there, apparent from on-air reporting. eric, thanks, follow the money, under in, tuesday, wednesday, friday, 10:00 eastern time only on the fox business network. martha? martha: the massive tornado in joplin, missouri cost so many so much. a freelance photographer who lived in that city shared some of his stunning images with us. what life is like now, for him, and for his family. bill: has gotten a lot tougher, and these guys are trying to get a closer look and we'll talk to a storm chaser who raced toward the storm. figure that one out. are you
