[speaking spanish] >> translator: a democracy, a state of rights such as the one that all chileans in our country built with so much effort, there should be no room for the violence we have known in recent days in our city. >> reporter: you may not think that the fare hike was particularly large, a ticket on the subway went from about a dollar earlier in the month to $1.20. but protesters will tell you this is the second hike this year, and they were already concerned about the cost of education, the cost of health care, many of them are high school and university students. so this is not going anywhere quickly. it's definitely, definitely continues to get very chaotic there the in santiago. ever since the president declared that state of emergency, the protests, i should say, have only grown.
