Well, two things, number one the retail ice age which we all feel like is well on its way, you know, stuart, its only 10 to 15 of retail sales has done online now, what do you think that Retail Sector is going to look like when its 5050, all right, we are getting into this move. I still think theres time to wait on places like jc penny to see if they survive being amasapped and youll have time to get in here and watch these things work your way. We hear today that they are thinking of getting into the liveevent ticketing industry, if i can put it like that and presumably take it over, what say you to that, scott . Well, there you go. Another industry that we are all going to have to start watch to go see what happens to those competitors because they theyre not a monopoly, they a different way of doing things. Its an app, cloud in the sky. Its not really a monopoly where they are hurting us. These prices are going lower for the consumer, not higher for consumer. Its good to see the efficiencies that theyre bringing to all types of businesses that probably need it. Brian economist joins us now. First one, the economy is stronger under trump, make your case, please. I have to be careful a little bit there. We have been in what we call a plow horse economy for the last eight years and let me explain that. On one side, we have these unbelievably great companies, technology, fracking, the clouds, all of the new things that we have invented and theyre booming. On the other hand, government is just too darn big. When you put those two things together over the last eight years, weve had about 2 growth. Right now under President Trump we are not adding new regulations, we are rolling back some and i expect we are going roll back more, we put a freeze on federal hiring and that has helped some of that 2 growth, maybe move up to 2. 3 or 2. 4. Stuart okay. In order to get 3 or 4 growth we have to have tax cuts, we need spending cuts and i think we need health care reform. Stuart okay, thats item number one. The trump economy, this economy looks good under President Trump, item number two, you dont think the recession is coming, youre saying its not going to happen . Yeah, i think back over this last eight years how many recessions forecasts did we hear, in fact, youve had me on many times, stuart, why arent we going to have one, this guy says we are going to have one and the number one cause of recession is the federal reserve, when they raise rates too much, when they tighten Monetary Policy too much, but right now the fed has 2 trillion of excess reserves in the Banking System and until they get them out they are not going to be running a tight Monetary Policy and therefore i would say the odds of recession are extremely low. The only other thing the only other thing that could cause recession is a big tax hike and clearly thats not going happen, we are more likely to have a tax cut. Stuart we hope youre right on that one, brian, thats a fact. Last one, stocks are cheap. Without getting technical, make your case. Yeah, we look at overall corporate profits, we use a capitalized profits model, in other words, you know, a profit is worth less if Interest Rates are higher and so if you if you put that formula together profits discounted by current Interest Rates or even little higher Interest Rates than we have currently, the stock market looks cheap on a historical basis and weve been saying this for the past eight years, stuart, people havent believed it and yet the market is up well over 200 . I still think it has quite a long way to go. Im looking for 40 gains in the stock market over the next two to three years. Stuart whoa, okay. Brian, our favorite friday morning economist. Actually the law takes effect september 1, which was the plan. Our attorney general ken paxton attempted to do in this court was take a preemptive strike saying this is constitutional. We know senate bill 4 which we passed months ago is clearly constitutional because it is based in part on arizona law that was held up by the United States Supreme Court so we know it is constitutional. When i was with you last week you recall we talk about how many states are held by republicans, republican governors and legislatures and governors, the truth cost of doing business at politics at state level is being sued by democrats. They are out of power. They dont have much clout. Every time we pass important piece of legislation that america wants to pass, they sue us. Well win eventually in court as this goes up the ladder. Meanwhile you cant impose the new law until you have the Court Situation settled down, so you really have a delay here, dont you . The judge decided well go to trial on that. The case that would stop the law september 1 is in san antonio. There is a democrat judge there. Well see how he rules. We know well win eventually. The editorial it is not clear it is directly written by government in beijing but governmentowned newspaper but a message to kim jongun and his generals and if they take offensive action and United States retaliates, that they are on their own so that is a shift. Regarding a preemptive attack something they would respond to themselves is more traditional but what it says to me in the political sense, increasingly strong view inside of china north korea is a pretty ugly piece of baggage for them to carry around. I think we need urgent negotiations on the possibility of reunifying the peninsula. I think that is the last diplomatic play left, frankly. Stuart im saying that the president s position can be summarized as follows. Show them you can take them down and convince them youll do it. That is the president is holding that position, maintaining that position and it is working. What say you . I think controversy in the United States about the president s rhetoric is misplaced. I think he made it clear, and i think his audience is pongyang and beijing, that he is different from his predecessor. That is an important reality for them to appreciate. And that he is prepared to use military force if it comes to that. Now having said that i dont think he needs to go much further. I think he has made his point clear and i hope they have understood it, but to me simply emphasizes that there is no route for diplomacy with north korea. They have achieved what they wanted to achieve virtually which is deliverable Nuclear Weapons. The diplomatic play that is left at this point is to pressure beijing. They alone have the capability either to change the regime in north korea or reunite the two koreas. If they dont act our options for possibilities of action become very, very limited, unless youre willing to live with a north korea with deliverable Nuclear Weapons. I am not. Stuart we have enormous battle here between the Republican Party and President Trump, your senator mike lees former chief of staff, whose side are you on . I think President Trump is right on this one. Unfortunately theres been a real lack of leadership in the senate for way too long, we need to get back to regular order and leader mcconnell, he can make excuses or progress on the agenda but he cant do both and thats the real problem, theres been so much shoulder shrugging and not my fault, pointing fingers and placing blame, thats not what the American People want. Its not time for us to expect less, its time for us to expect more and i think its great that the president is not only applying a little light in terms of whats not happening in the senate but also a little heat to senator mcconnell to say, come on, its time to get things done. Stuart senator lee is a conservative, you used to run the shop on the conservative saying, Mitch Mcconnell has to go . I think the important thing is that we start moving things forward and theres some accountability. This is interesting, stuart, if you look at the skinny that they tried to pass with health care repeal, it was the three moderates that took it down, mccain, markowski and colins and had bill gone by conservative votes, there would have been a hit piece in politico in senator mcconnells office but instead senator mccain goes in there cast the vote that kills the bill and gets a hug from senator hatch on the way out. Until they hold moderates accountable until they squash the conservatives itll be status quo and nothing is going to happen in the senate. Stuart is there a serious move to get back in session, is it being talked about seriously . I dont think its going to happen to be honest because its status quo and thats the real problem with the senate right now, is we havent had regular order for almost a decade and whether it was harry reid or Mitch Mcconnell. Its like the old layy driving slow with the blinker on, you cant tell a difference, im not sure if theres a difference between harry reid difference and a Mitch Mcconnell senate. Theres nothing to bring them back to. Thats the problem. There hasnt been policy discussion, policy and always right now in the senate and what Mitch Mcconnell has to recognize is that good policy is good politics and the forgotten men and women of america that elected President Trump and put him in the white house, theyre expecting some results and there will be ramifications in 2018 for sure. Is there some understanding understanding that if the gop doesnt get something done, i dont know what it has to be, but something done, theyre toast next year, is there an understanding of that . Im interrupting you because i dont think there is. Get back to washington and get something done and we have this on both sides. I dont think its going to happen. Thats right. Its the status quo, you nailed it perfectly, stuart. Its this fake fights, false choice but preserve the status quo for who, for the wealthy, the wellconnected, people on k street, the lobbyists and what theyre trying to do is convince us that we are too divided to deal with anything in this country and as long as they do that, as long as the American People think we are too divide today deal with health care and taxes, gives congress an excuse to do absolutely nothing. And i dont care we are that divided. I think we can get democrats to come along if we put principles and policy first. What is Mitch Mcconnell afraid of if he believes in the principles . Stuart hold on, boyd, you think youre going to get democrats in the senate for tax cut for corporations, you think they are going to agree to tax cuts . I think theres some space in there for that to happen. Obviously thats the long shot, but if you the thing we have to do, stuart, we have to force the conversation. Whats happening now is the democrats are getting a complete pass and republicans are just fumbling left, right and center. So put it on the floor and have a debate, force the democrats to defend it, force democrats to defend obamacare and the collapse, right now they are getting a free pass because the republicans are doing nothing, everything is being done the way its always been, back rooms, back door, and nothing is happening for the American People. We have to believe in conservative principles. You have seen them work in business. The American People have seen them work.
