Weve got the attorney general and the Surgeon General . I think that what were saying. And education, too, for ben carson, and in trumps speech. Hell bring the evangelicals and bring his grass roots operation and whats going to be interesting is how ben carson and donald trump will talk about policy and where will dr. Ben carson weigh in on, on common core and education or further beyond that . Then of course, theres this idea that last nights debate, speaking of the debate, lee, youre the expert on did you do your dials . I did. And the civility of it all, was that good or bad . And in twitter sphere, social media was kind of disappointed because of this. Listen, people love to watch car crashes. Right. And did it work overall, do you think . Look, i think a lot of the dialog we saw, they were never as high as we often see them. I think a lot of people were waiting for the punch line and especially when trump was up, but overall we heard, especially from kasich, especially from rubio, we saw that even the democrats were responding really, really favorable to these guys and they were talking about policy, talking about issues, and talking about security, when they were talking about education, we were talking about issues of substance and people were responding, even trump when hes talking about, this is time to come together. You said even democrats, because trump likes to say, i am also pulling in a lot of democrats, too. So, you know, you see that in florida, early polls showing 18 higher than in 2012, 2014, academics are saying that could be trump pulling out according to a report. Ive seen that rubio is winning the early vote in florida so well see. Essentially, also, i think its interesting, gillian, that what to your point about the civility aspect of it, a lot of people say listen, donald trump, he hits the stage being bombastic. Itsdz shifting toward that president ial general election thing. Could it be shifting too soon . Listen, at this point, his core supporters are his core supporters, he knows hes got them in the bag, is this the right time to make the move . I think it is, wh especially in a debate last night, there were Foreign Policy topics, hitting hard and talking peace in the middle east and reengaging with cuba. You need to sound president ial on these issues and part of the thing there is that his core supporters as you mentioned are going to stick with him, but even though there was civility, there wasnt any lock of zinc, marco rubio came in with great quips last night. I want to ask you, thats one of the rare areas where you really have some distinct differences with respect to how each of the candidates would have their administration, when you talk about the middle east and you talk about specifically israel, and it could be a high stakes gambit, if you will, to the idea that you were going through a negotiating process and an american would, treating israel, the israelis and the palestinians on the same level, how is that going to work . Its a distinction between trump and the three against trump. Hes strongly on this issue saying hes going to remain neutral, not kind of side with the israelis, its a strange stance for somebody who admires what he calls strong leaders to take. Because Prime Minister netanyahu is nothing if not a strong, bullish leader and they would make a perfect fit. On the flip side of that trump has been saying, weve got to bat ten down on our trade policy and china, and we need china to rein in north korea, and 75 of north koreas trade is with china. You need to keep china in the wheel house. This is going to be really interesting, whats coming up at this press conference. Go back to israel for a second and as someone who is jewish and strong israel supporter and a trump supporter, its nuanced. Its one thing for rubio, cruz and kasich, cruz, made some comments throughout the campaign, new york values, and something about do you think that rubio senator from florida. Okay, and the new york values, those were comments hit me and theres been a lot of discussion about this as antisemitic. So trump is someone who is dramatic and gotten deals done. If youre going to negotiation and im 100 siding with one side youre never going to get anything done. They keep saying over and over again, it would be the toughest deal. In the same breath, he was right, right on the money when he said that the toughest deal anyone is going to strike, in the same breath, he said, oh, but i love israel and i was the grand marshal of thats not neutrality. Hell go into the negotiation, sorry. And we understand thats his starting point. One of the big knocks against president obama is were at a point now, one of our allies trust us and we cant get the tribal leaders in the country that need to be on our side to crush isis because they think theyll come for six months or a year and retreat again. So essentially, is that the sort of confidence building that israelis need if they know that theyre going to treat both sides the same even though israel has we understand the atrocities that have happened in israel. I think this week, there were some major atrocities, and shootings and murders and even of american tourists, so in this particular case, does that give israel less confidence in a donald trump . Because hes already saying out the gate that hes negating to a certain degree all of the bad things that have happened. But hes not. If you listen to what he said in his speeches and during the debates, hes been strong and defined on the fact that israel has been hurt by the palestinians. His point is when you sit down for the negotiations which have to happen, again, i would love for the state of israel to remain exactly as it is, stronger and stronger and stronger, and see what is happening every day, you need a solution. From this point of view, to get to this solution, you need both sides to speak and also time. He said he would dramatically escalate the u. S. Presence in the middle east, 30,000 u. S. Troops on the ground to battle isis. Lets hold on a second, weve got steve moore with us as well. He likes donald trump on the economic side. You havent endorsed anyone, but you do like donald trump. And emack brought up china and trade and i think with you, this is a question, i want to ask you as an economic expert, you know, how do we go about this, a massive terrorist, most economists i know shoot it down saying it would be economic suicide for everyone. Hi, charles. By the way, i like trump voters, i dont always agree with trump by any means. Look, i think the area where i disagree the most with donald trump is on trade, charles. You and i are free traders. We know that when you bring terrorists down, its a tax cut for the american consumer. I agree with john kasich and i agree with ted cruz that, you know, if youve got a level Playing Field, theres no question that america can how can you level the Playing Field . Lets set it up for the audience though because i think theres a lot of hyperbolic misinformation out there. Every single countries uses tariffs, chinas are higher than others and mexico, how do we play if we dont fight fire with fire. The answer to the question was ted cruz, im biased because i helped to write ted cruzs tax plan. You deal with this through the tax i am system. I think that ted did a pretty good job of explaining this. We have the dumbest tax system in the world. We tax what we produce, but wont tax whats imported and basically cruz would reverse that through a kind of consumption tax so basically when something is brought into the united states, there would be a tax imposed on it, call it a tariff or whatever you want, if something is produced and michigan here in michigan, indiana, california with American Workers and theres no tax. That would level the Playing Field. All right, youre shaking your head. Youre a wall street guy. What dont you like about what steve moore just said. I more what i like about what trump said. Impose the tariffs. Hes going to threaten the tariffs, and part of the negotiations, here is is how you do business right now. Lets figure out how we get to fair trade and smart trade and lower your tariffs and given the currency. En you know, knowing china, you honestly believe that theyre going to blink and say okay . I think that hes the only one that we have running for president. I dont, before you jump in, steve, ill throw in my two cents. I honestly think that chinese leaders are fighting three fights, the stock market up, the currency up, and they have 3. 3 trillion, an expensive battle, hey, lets put it on hold, guys, because donald trump you know what . Well let him get set up and finish my point then real quick. The point is theyre not going to blink and i think that the American Public should understand, we may have to answer to a shortterm trade war. Which could mean there were a lot of good feelings in that room and i think its something, frankly, that the Republican Party needed and today is something very, very special because dr. Ben carson who is respected by everybody, everybody wanted his endorsement and Everybody Loves him and truly, truly admires what hes done. His life has been an incredible life, its been an aweinspiring life and i just want to tell you that, having his support really, i think, it adds just total credence to what im trying to do and to what were all trying to do. So, i just want to introduce. Doctor ben carson, special, special person, special man. Thank you very much. [applaus [applause] thank you, donald. And you know, this whole process, getting involved in the political process was something that i never particularly intended to do, but you know, i listened to the people. It was really all about the people and it continues to be all about the people. You know, its not about the Republican Party or the democratic party, its about the people of america. And what i was have been seeing recently is political operatives and parties once again trying to assert themselves and trying to thwart the will of the people. I find that that is an extraordinarily dangerous place to be right now and you know, i want the voice of the people to be heard. I want the political process to play out in the way that it should play out and you know, i think the Republican Party, particularly, would be very wise, not to adopt, lets stop this guy and promote this guy policy, but rather, start thinking about what are the things that are going to be helpful for america . Right now, you know, were in a process of going off the deep end. Were going off the cliff for fiscally irresponsible, were hating each other, were destroying ourselves, a house divided against itself cannot stand. Were failing to take a leadership position on the world stage. Now, some people have said, well, why, why would you get behind a man like donald trump . Ill tell you why. First of all, ive come to know donald trump over the last few years, he is actually a very intelligent man who cares deeply about america. There are two different Donald Trumps, theres the one you see on the stage and theres the one whos very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully, you can have a very good conversation with him. And thats the donald trump that youre going to start seeing more and more of right now. And some people said, but well, you know, he said terrible things about you, how can you support him . Well, first of all, we buried the hatchet. That was political stuff and you know, that happens in american politics. The politics of personal destruction, all of that. Its not something that i particularly believe in or anything that i get involved in, but i do recognize that it is a part of the process. We move on because its not about me, its not about mr. Trump, its about america and this is what we have to be thinking about. I have found that in talking with him that, you know, theres a lot more alignment, philosophically and spiritually than i ever thought there was and he will speak to that, but you know, that actually surprised me more than anything because i do recognize how a persons image can be greatly distorted, having been the victim of that. I probably understand it better than anybody, and i think, as the american people, who we are focusing on, as they begin to see the real individual there, and those who are helping that individual, i think were going to be comforted as a nation. You know, we have to start working together, we cannot allow the agents of division to continue to separate us, as a nation our strength is our unity. And we we just have to sort of ignore those people who are always trying to stir up strive and im appealing to some degree to the media as well. You know, youre part of america, too, and should be interested in strengthening our nation, not in creating divisions not in creting conflicts all the time. If we start having that american attitude, that american spirit that made us great, that took us to the pinnacle in no time at all, believe me, everybody will benefit from that. Were also talking about how can we make america a place that is successful for everybody. You know, we have 330 million people. Were going to be competing with china, with 1. 4 billion, india, 1. 1 billion. We have to develop all of our people. You know, the people who are the downtrodden in our society. Were not doing those people any favor by patting them on the head, there, there, im going to take care of your needs. What we need to do is concentrate on mechanisms to allow those people to climb out of the state of dependency and become part of the fabric and strength of this nation. Thats what america is about. Its not about the tenancy and it certainly isnt about socialism. You know, socialism is seen as the panacea by some who dont really understand it. I think a lot of people think socialism is just being concerned about other people. Thats not what it is. You know, its cradle to grave government and you let them take care of you, but you give them all of your money, you have give them control of your life. They all ends up looking the same way, a small group of elites at the top controlling everything, a rapidly diminishing middle class and a vastly expanded dependent class. That is not what made America Great. Donald trump talks a lot about making America Great, but its not just talk, he means it. Im going to be helping him, others are going to be helping him, you know, one of the things that ive discovered in this country is we have some incredibly smart people. None of us knows everything, but when we begin to use those smart people effectively to accomplish the goals of america, youre going to see us once again begin to ascend to the pinnacle, to a much higher pinnacle than weve ever achieved before and thats where america should be. Thank you so much. [applaus [applause] thank you very much, ben. And ben and i were talking lengthily yesterday and it was an amazing conversation. One of the things that i realized is, his great love is education and he was telling me things about education and he was so right on and it was so good. Its such an important element for our country. And i said, ben, congratulations, you just have to get involved with us, with education, because our educational system in the united states, as youve heard from my speeches, were ranked at the bots tomorrow of the pack worldwide and yet we spend the most money for people, by far the most money, second doesnt exist, so, ben is going to get very much involved in that and very much involved in health care where hes an expert, and even during the debates id always know ben when it came to health care and talking about health, ben was in really a class by himself. So, its touch an honor to have ben, hes a friend, become a friend, and i really appreciate the endorsement, ben, thank you. [applause]. Any questions, folks . Yes. Mr. Trump. David. Mr. Trump, two questions, first of all, did you guys gently or formally apologize to each other for some nasty things on the trail . Its politics, its tough stuff, its a tough business. I used to think that real estate in manhattan was tough. This is like, its a tough business this politics. A lot of things happen in politics that dont happen anywhere else, yeah, so we understand that. Go ahead. Secondly, so the question always comes up for an endorsement. Had there been any discussion between the two of you, promises of positions for dr. Carson in your administration, running mate it was lovely, when ben called, he didnt say would you do this or that, he just wants to help. You see the crowds that we get, crowds that are amazing, record setting, i dont think theres been anything like it, well, its on the cover of every magazine, theres never been anything like it. Ben sees that and ben is going to have a big, big part, i can tell you, maybe ben doesnt know this yet, but ben is going to have big part. We want to keep that kind of talent. Do you see dr. Carson as a policy role or a surrogate out on the campaign where youre not going. When he says there are two Donald Trumps, do you agree with that characterization. I probably do agree. I think there are two donald trump the public version and people see that and i dont know what they see exactly, but it seems to have worked over my lifetime. But its probably different, i think, than the personal, donald trump. I think ben would say that. Ben said it very well. So perhaps there are two Donald Trumps, but well, you know, im somebody that is a thinker. Im a big thinker and i have my ideas and theyre strong, and you know, typically theyve worked out. And what i want to do, you know, the theme, and ben alluded to it, the theme that i have for this entire campaign is make America Great again, thats what i want to do, very simple. I want to make America Great again. We have so many problems, whether its military, trade, borders, whether its terrorism. We have so many problems, the debt, you know, you look at our debt. 19 trillion dollars going up to 21 trillion dollars in a very short fashion, so, were going to straighten things out and going to straitsen them out. Policy or politics for you . Dr. Carsons both, dr. Carson is both. Hes going to be on poly. Ben was strong on policy. Thank you, mr. Trump. Youve been talking about unity on the campaign trail and the debate last night. Any outreach to capitols hill and ask you an Islamic State question after that. We have been called by the biggest people in politics, not only republican politics, but also the biggest people in republican politics and over the last couple of weeks, you saw paul ryan reached out and terrific guy, ive always respected him and always liked him. Not necessarily agree on everything, cause im very strong on borders and very strong on security, and i think paul, i think paul is, you know, i think hes going to have his views and i think probably certain things will change. But paul ryan reached out and we had a great conversation. And many other people at the top, top level. I sort of get a kick, i see you covering one person who is saying donald trump must be stopped. And i talked to them two days before and he said donald, we have to come together. Weve been contacted by many of the biggest people in republican politics. Professional lawmakers , but theyre reaching out to us because they see whats happening. Were getting millions and millions of people, additional people, people that the Republican Party has never had before. Its the biggest story, i said it last night at the debate, the biggest story in politics is whats happening. We are having millions and millions of people come up and vote for the republicans, they get out, they register republican, and ive had so many people tell me ive never voted republican in my life, i left the democrats in order to register as a republican so i could vote for you. Independents, democrats, and you see it, were up 65 , more than that. Millions of people more and thats what im saying. The republicans now want to embrace it. I see it. They want to embrace it. Tom. I want to ask you about the Islamic State. Last night you talked about potentially sending up to 30,000, more troops than george bush were going to get back real soon. We have to get rid of isis, its up to the generals, but the generals are going to be able to play their own game. I want to find out we have the right general, then, right. We dont want to have the wrong general talking to us, but were going to find the right general, right guy or person or woman. And prepare potentially for a long war. No, very quick, its going to be very quick, were powerful. We dont use our power. Mr. Trump, on the burying the hatchet deal with you and ben carson. You said that politics are rough. Do you regret anything you said about dr. Carson. I was thinking about it yesterday, i have respect for ben. The cnn poll came out 4915, how do you like that ben, he wouldnt have been happy, but if you noticed during this whole thing, nationally, im talking about, because ultimately they say nationally theres support, ultimately i guess its probably the most important so cnn comes out 49, a couple of days ago, 49 for trump and 15 for the two others, i think were at 15. And the one person that just kept sneaking up on me, i couldnt lose him was dr. Ben carson. I could not lose that guy. And i was doing well, and you know, trump would be at 28 at that time and i remember whether its 28 and ben was 18, and then he was 19, and the next week it was like 22, and i said, whoa, whoa, what is happening here . I dont like this, right . And then he was 24, and then i had a pretty good poll where i took a little lead in one, and, but then what happened is, it was, i believe, nbc, wall street journal who always gives me bad polls, by the way, always have bad polls. Thank you for the nice thing you always say about me. You are so nice, thank you. Sitting next to david. Okay . Thank you very much. Always so nice. Now shes going to be mad because shes embarrassed, but i want to thank you. So ben would always, like hed be there and one poll ben went ahead, the biggest story worldwide. I said, this guy is unbelievable. And so, i started going after ben. And its politics. Ben understands that. And i was really impressed with the way he fought back, because he fought back with silence and strength. And i made a comment on it. And somebody else would have gone wild he has great confidence in himself and i was very, very impressed. Its true, the one person, i use the excompression, i couldnt lose him, couldnt shake him. He did so well and just go up, up, so steady, so solid, and i fought back and i hit him hard. And he which is politics and ben understands that and he understood that because i talked to him about it yesterday and he handled it with such dignity. I gained a lot of respect for him. On that point though, mr. Trump, you talk about the two mr. Trumps and dr. Ben car sop said, when you say i want to punch a protester in the face, or dr. Ben carson, is it just politics or youre playing a character there. No, its politics and its fact. Let me tell you, weve had violent protesters. Not just saying that these people punched, i get the biggest crowds by far, not even a contest, you people dont like to report it, one thing good about protesters, you have to go into these stadiums and these massive stadiums with 25 or 30,000 people and you have to at least the cameras never turn, hey, ben, the cameras never turn and show the stadium, i say turn and show when theres a protester in the corner thats great, the camera is there, because its a negative as opposed to a positive so they turn. But weve had a couple that were really violent and the one i said id like to bang him, that was a very vicious a guy very loud and started swinging at the audience and you know what . The audience swung back and i thought it was very, very appropriate. He was swinging, he was hitting people, and the audience hit back. And thats what we need a little more of. Im not just talking about a protester, but a guy who should not have been allowed to do what he did. If you want to know the truth, the police were very, very restrained. The police have been amazing, but the police were very, very restrained. Okay. Yes. Mr. Trump, did the rnc ever come to you and the debate no they didnt. Why do you think it was . I think it was time. It was time. It was very substantive last night. Ive said before, it was a very elegant debate, it was very substantive, it was very ben came in and said it was a beautiful debate last night. Its gotten great reviews, as a debate, i wont tell people that i won, even though i did win, let me just say. I refuse to say that time magazine, slate 84, fox 91 at fox, i dont believe it. New jersey. Com, so, i mean, we had a debate last night and i think i did what i had to do actually, but, it was, i dont know, you know, weve had enough debates in my opinion. Weve had these debates, theyve been like Vince Mcmahon should have put them on because they were wwe. Too much and i think that it really, i think last night was something that was very important, that it come off like that and we didnt speak and the candidates didnt speak about it, but it just sort of morphed into a very dignified debate. Yes. Mr. Trump. Go ahead, sir. You said in the debate last night you hadnt decided whether youre going to accept fund raising for the general election. Accept what . Raise money for the general election, if you go that route i dont think so, i wouldnt be taking money, if anything, the party would be taking money, im not going to take any money, i dont want money. The party might take money, thats up to the party, its not up to me and its something i havent given much thought to. I have selffunded my campaign. I put in, i guess ill be in for 50, 60 Million Dollars at a minimum. Right, i am somebody thats a business person and even when i the money sort of irrelevant, but i have a natural instinct to be a little bit careful with money because thats the way i am, thats the way we have to be with our country. I expect to have, you know, tremendous amounts of money in this by the time we finish. I guess you would know better than me, 30 million, maybe more, but other people are in for 150 Million Dollars and theyre nowhere. Theyre out of the race. So, im very proud of the race weve run. You know, somebody said, hes only been doing this for eight months, but i know the system better than anybody and the reason i know, because i was on the other side of the system when they talk about Campaign Finance laws, i know it much better and i know it from the real side not from the politicians side. Mr. Trump stand by the way. Thanks, sir, i want to what tom asked about what dr. Carson said elaborate a little bit on that. I will work with ben carson on so many different things. The thing that most impressed me, i know all about his views on healthcare. I always felt that he knew more about it than the other people on the stage. Perhaps, he should. I was most impressed with his views on education. It is a strength. He will be involved with any aspect that he wants to be. I want to know more about the toned down version. With doctor carson. Do you plan to tone down your performance is . I did not go there as a toned down president and whatever happens happens. You have to be able to swing with the punches. If i was hit, i would have hit back. There were those people that say it does not matter. Let them call you names. Let them do whatever you want. Stand there and take it. Nobody will be to you. Do not do anything. I said i cannot do that. When somebody hits, i have to head back. I thought that everybody did well. I used the expression. I thought it was a very elegant debate last night. You said earlier you felt we have had enough debates. Is your suggestion at this point, guys, weve had enough. How many times do you have to give the same answer to the same question . It would be a nice thing to finish off this one. It is just a really nice way to finish off your debate season. I do not think that there is any reason for the debates. The democrats are not getting ratings at all. Our debates are getting very, very big ratings. You know, one of those things. I think weve had enough. The network very much well. It is a phrase that you have been using. You said embrace it to the Republican Party. As you move forward now, what are you going to do. Will you find yourself surrounding . The Republican Party should come together and embrace these millions of people that are going down and voting. Millions of people. No matter where it is. Millions and millions of people. We have had some states of 102 from four years ago. 102 . It is really beautiful to see. These are people that have never voted. I am talking about 40, 50, 60, 70 years old. They have a trump shirt on. They have never put a political shirt on in their lives. They never have confidence in the people. Literally, when i shake hands with people or when i signed autographs, people say i have never voted before, mr. Trump. I am so proud to be voting. It has been an amazing thing. What i said to the Republican Party, i guess i used to be a member of the establishment eight months ago. I said, embrace it instead of fighting it. Instead of fighting me like these people from club for growth, they asked me for 1 million. I said, who are they. I do not even know who they are. I said, well, let me think about it. I said, i am not going to waste a Million Dollars. They started doing negative ads. They started going negative on me. They are extortionists. I look on television and i see negative ads. You know, that is what you have. We should embrace the Republican Party. We will have a victory like the Republican Party has never had the for. I will win michigan. That is not in the playbook for the Republican Party. Can you imagine if you win new york . Florida, virginia, just go down the line. You have to win certain states. If you win one of them, it is over for the Republican Party. It is much more difficult for someone to get elected from the Republican Party. For me, 88 a lot of stakes. I own states that i will get states that art that art unbelievable. Unthinkable for the Republican Party. We will embrace it. Handling education for you. Here in florida, a lot of people handling common core. How would doctor carson do something about the issues that a lot of people have . Then knows. I think that then will do a Tremendous Service for helping the states. We want to see it. There is great love in education. Instead of some bureaucrat in washington, you will do a lot better. Okay. Senate majority leader, mitch mcconnell. I have not yet. Beside being vulnerable. Running away from you if you were the nominee. I am sure that that will change. Is that who you see uniting the electric. Party leadership. A connection between the socalled leadership. I cannot define leadership. Nobody knows what it is. The people to me are much more important. That is why i am standing up here today and other people are not. The Republican Party lost its way. Certainly the last election they should have won easily. That should have been an easy victory. The Republican Party lost its way. The Republican Party now, something has happened. Call it a miracle, call it whatever you want to. The millions and millions of people that are pulling to the Republican Party, these are people that are disenfranchised. People that have not had a pay increase in 20 years. People that have seen their jobs go to china into and to mexico and to japan and to vietnam and to every other country in the world but us. You get the general election. Let me tell you about the democratic voters. I will tell you, one of the things that we will do is we will get so many democrats. It has already been proven. So many have, and signed registration forms. They left. You know, they had an expression. Everybody out there is voting for you. I have a tough stance on crime. If it does come down to eight convention, what are you doing . I think we will do it without a fight. At the end of this should win. I am hoping to prepare. All higher should be great for me. They are losing tremendous numbers of job. I think i will beat john kasich. Yes. He has been an absentee governor. Chris christies said absolutely john k said. Different states. Very big in south carolina. Did not win in new hampshire. Did not win in michigan. He said, i will win michigan. I thought he said, i thought he said if i do when michigan, i dropped out. I won michigan in a landslide. John has been, you know, not really there. He is very much in favor of transpacific hardener ship. Any budget in the united states. Higher than any budget. Ohio will have a lot of problems. I did not know that there was a next debate. I dow we had our next ebay last night. The networks agreed to give all of their money to the wounded war years or to the veterans. The networks are making a fortune on these debates. Have you been hearing mostly from republicans . Id rather not say. I have been hearing from virtually everybody in the Republican Party. They congratulate me and say lets get together. These are very smart people. You know, you look at the polls. The people that work in the polling area has, they have been there for 20, 25 years. You go to nevada. Standing in the place of nancy all morning long. Yes, maam. Go ahead. And on mac. How will you say you differ on trade and Hillary Clinton. She has no business. She does not have the energy or the strength to get the right trade deals made. They come at you in waves.
