Political witch hunt. Well, why exactly do we, well get all the intel for you. And the liberal media obsessed with this james comey story. But Everyday Americans not so much. So why the disconnect . Well, were asking your favorite media critic and mine howie courteous. Hes here plus we have congressman, hell be joining us just a few moments to take a look at this all this breaking news with us and tell us whether republicans worried here. But first, i want to go to our own blake burman where in the next hour we will be hearing from the president himself. Hey, blake. Hi, there, trish, thats right. The president will be meeting with juan manual, the president of columbia here at the white house shortly and really, the big news with all of thiss whas going to happen at the tail end. That being a press conference between the two leaders in the east room of the white house. And because this is a press conference if history holdings, this should mean a couple questions from President Trump. A couple of questions as well from the foreign media, and that would mean for the first time here and quite some time that we would hear President Trump himself on camera as it relates to the many topics, to the many questions, to the many headlines that have consumed this white house over the last couple weeks among them, might he be asked about potential tapes that james comey, that he has on jim comey. Might be he be asked about the memos that he apparently wrote . Might he be asked about the meeting in the oval office with the Russian Diplomats last week . So much on the table for this president. Well see what he is asked about here coming up. We saw him, trish, fight back a little bit on this day, at least as it relates to the special counsel that was set up by the department of justice yesterday, and it kind of foreshadowed the president did yesterday in a speech the u. S. Coast guard in which he said if you think youre getting a raw deal, if you think youre getting something unfair, well, fight, fight, fight. And that is what the president did on this day with a series of tweets. The president tweeting out the following quote with all the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton Campaign and obama administration, there was never a special counsel appointed. The president then went on to write this is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in american history. 2 02 on the east coast, trish. That means two hours from now, well hear from the president himself. Trish many thanks, blake. We have republican strategist Ford Oconnell and democrat strategist don calloway. Ford, ill start with you. The president says this is the greatest witch hunt of all time. What say you . Well, i think he has a very good point here. And how on earth does he get set up with a special prosecutor with a pl under the obama administration. And i think this sets a bad precedent going forward. We know how this is going to end. Its going to take several years. Billions of dollars, lives are going to be ruined. President trump is going to be exonerated. Maybe theres a process crime for Michael Flynn or someone else. But what gets screwed here is the growth agenda in middle america. And guess what . The democrats and the media just dont care. Trish yeah, thats my concern and thats been the markets concern. He said hes worried were not going to get the Economic Policy reforms done that we need in the way of tax cuts, in the way of repeal and replace obamacare in the way of less regulation. And you know what . That hurts Everyday Americans in the end. Hey, trish, i absolutely agree with you and ford that this has been, and it will be a huge roadblock in the way of real reform. Infrastructure reform, tax reform, whether or not you want obamacare or not as we have discussed before. But i tell you what. These are selfinflicted wounds by the trump administration. And its not fair to say that theres nothing really here. I mean, this is something that objectively americans can agree and should agree that we should be looking into. Trish let me stop you there. In some ways, maybe you could look at this as Glass Half Full. Maybe you could be saying gosh darnit, what the heck was going on with Hillary Clinton and some of the, you know, concerns there in terms of her allegiances . I mean, maybe we have a shot after getting to the bottom of all of it. Well, look, the Glass Half Full side is that basically congress doesnt have to answer any more questions, and it could absolutely get to work. Heres the problem that i have with don. Yes, i do understand that President Trump shot himself in the foot several times. But this is we are solely at this place because of a democratic election excuse being fueled by the media. When you think about it, this is absolutely insane and yet we dont have a special prosecutor for anything that has occurred before . I just think what were doing here, the doj gave into democrats. Ford, democrats didnt have didnt force the president to fire the fbi director. Guess what, don. Youre a lawyer. Be honest. Youre a lawyer. He served in the pleasure of the president and didnt fire him for any reason. Trish we want to be able to hear everybody talk here. Dons making a pretty valid point. Maybe he didnt do himself any favors here but, ford, if actually there was some shenanigans going on, why did he actually fire the head of the fbi . If you ask me, at that point you make sure he stays on and you dont actually go out and fire him because its too darn obvious. Well, let me say this heres why you fired the fbi director. He hung himself on his may 3rd testimony before congress where he basically said im the law, and i decide to speak out and take matters into my own hands of the clinton investigation, and i decided this is what im going to do, and i userp the power of attorney general loretta lynch. And if im donald trump, i dont want a hot dog like that going forward, particularly the news that the democrats are pushing about the russia investigation and yet there are has been no crime that has been broken, collusion in and of itself is not a crime. The only crime thats out there is that Michael Flynns name was unmasked and leaked to the press. Trish let me ask you this. Comb is a guy who can bite the book. If he actually saw that the president was trying to obstruct justice, why wouldnt he say anything early on . Well, he did what lawyers are supposed to do. Lawyers have invented the cya memo, and thats absolutely what he did. He was as his friend who reported to the New York Times said, he was substantially appalled, so much so by the conversation in the oval office trish i dont know, though. Let me just jump in. You were talking to connor yesterday who had a very good point, and he said, look, first of all, we dont know the whole memo; right . We only saw poverty. We dont. But he was trish they took the worst of it. The very, very worst of it because, you know, thats what the media does, and thats what the other side of things would be doing. Youre right. Youre absolutely right. They probably did take the worst part of it and none of us have seen the memo, and we may not ever see it, and we wont hear from director comey until hes subpoenaed to congress. However, jim comey is the guy who has had the full respect of both sides of the partisan divide at this point. Hes not making this up and its something that theyre looking into, and thats what were going to get from the special investigator. Trish well, ill tell you. Maybe Glass Half Full. Im joined on set who made that point as we watched all of this unfold in front of our eyes. Gregg, to a certain extent, might this actually help donald trump and get some of the concerns out of the way . Well, comey ended up being the guy who clears donald trump in that favorite conversation privately in which he wrote a memo memorializing it. Heres the memo. Under the law, he is required to notify his superiors at the department of justice if anybody, including the president , attempts to obstruct justice. Failing to do that is a crime by comey. So the question becomes did he notify doj . My guess is earning because that would have triggered a criminal investigation of the president three months ago and how do you keep that quiet for three months . So in the end, comey may actually in order not to be prosecuted himself, have to say when the conversation occurred, and i wrote the memo, i didnt think that the president s words rose to the level of obstruction. They we vague and ambiguous and elliptical wds, and you have to have more than that for obstruction. And thus i didnt break the law by not reporting it to doj does. Trish well, how quickly could we get there . There are concerns right now, and i told you what bill gross, the investor said hes worried, and were not going to get the Economic Policy reforms we need. How long do you think it could take to get to potentially that answer youre talking about . Well, look, the appointment is special prosecutor doesnt infect or delay in any way the congressional investigation. Theyre going to go forward and, yes, special prosecutor or counsel, sometimes they can go on for years. Weve seen that in the past. Heres the important point about muller. His job is to look for evidence of a crime. Not to expose to the public any wrongdoing. So if he finds no crime, and we dont know of any so far, he then must say found no crime, and i cant talk to you about any of the other evidence in the case. That occurred in the Patrick Fitzgerald investigation of the valerie affair. He was angry. What do you mean you cant tell us anything . Sorry. I can only tell you about a crime committed in the Scooter Libby case. I cant tell you about anything else. So arguably a lot of evidence against trump could get buried. Trish tell me about muller. He has a friendship, does he not, with james comey . Yeah. And this is a problem, and nobody has been talking about it. He has a serious conflict of interest. If, for example, ts investigation morphs into the comey case and alleged obstruction of justice, think about this. Comey and muller were joined at the hip working together for years at the fbi. They were twins. They stood together in unison and the wiretapping case both of them threatening to resign their close friends. If its comey versus the president his word against his word, how can muller be fair and impartial here . Hes too close to comey. Its a serious conflict of interest. Im shocked that nobodys been talking about it. Trish its to your point nobody has been talking about it. Is it going to come out . Do you think that this could conflict him out . Well, how do you do that . I mean, the only person who can get rid of muller would be rosenstein who, you know trish put him there in the first place. Thats the law. Trish wow. Messy, messy stuff. Trump can tweet and complain and say wait a minute. This guys close buddies with comey and, in fact, the president may end up doing that and if i were his adviser, i would probably have the President Point that out. Trish well, maybe he will. All right. Gregg, thank you so much. Good to see you. Weve got stocks on a bit of a roller coaster ride here. I tell you, theyre recovering. Up triple digits after that big day of losses. Taking a look now we are at session highs up 107 points right now i want to go down to lori rothman live at the New York Stock Exchange and wow, what a difference 24 hours makes. You said it. I mean, were watching stocks being bought up really in the last couple of minutes here were seeing the dow reach 100 point gains, 107, to be exact. You know, we got Economic Data this morning that really proves the u. S. Economy is firing on all cylinders. So really, all of this concern out of washington and the white house turmoil and the controversy, i think the data this morning, trish, proves that the u. S. Economys in pretty good shape right now while tax reform and Bank Deregulation would be helpful, things are working and moving along as they should pretty well as we speak. One indicator is the jobless claims. The labor market continuing to tighten up. We saw jobless claims fall to a 28. 5year low. They came in down for a Third Straight week. 232,000 americans filed for first time unemployment benefits. Also, another data point this morning. Factory orders were real strong in the midatlantic region. So once again, evidence of u. S. Economy is in pretty good shape. Also, earnings have been pretty strong and with that, technology. The stocks that were down so deeply yesterday . Well, theyre coming back today. Apple, amazon, facebook, the tech heavy weights all showing one plus up percentage points. Trish good stuff. We like to see all of this. Fall back, everyone, as the Justice Department appointed former fbi director Robert Muller and special counsel to investigate russian medaling into our elections. Were going to go live to congressman sean to find out what he thinks about all of this and whether or not the Republican Party is starting to get nervous. And whether or not these controversies are going to delay President Trumps pro growth agenda. Thats next look closely. Hidden in every swing, every chip, and every putt, is data that can make the difference between winning and losing. The microsoft cloud helps the pga tour turn countless points of data into insights that transform their business and will enhance the game for players and fans. The microsoft cloud turns information into insight. When a fire destroyed everything in our living room. We replaced it all without touching our savings. Yeah, our insurance wont do that. No. You can leave worry behind when liberty stands with you™. Liberty Mutual Insurance when liberty stands with you™. Ive spent my life planting a sizesix, nonslip shoe into that door. On this side, i want my customers to relax and enjoy themselves. But these days its phones before forks. They want wifi out here. But behind that door, i need a private connection for my business. Wifi pro from comcast business. Public wifi for your customers. Private wifi for your business. Strong and secure. Good for a door. And a network. Comcast business. Built for security. Built for business. People in the country need to know that were busy at work trying to solve their problems. So i realize that theres a lot in the media these days. That doesnt sees up congress. That doesnt stop us from doing our jobs to work on peoples problems. Its very important to know that we can walk and chew gum at the same time and sure, drama isnt helpful in getting things done, but were still things done. Trish really . Sometimes i wonder about that. Anyway, House Speaker paul ryan reacting there to the seemingly never ending scandals that are coming out of washington. You know, some republicans are quite worried about the agenda that theyre trying to get accomplished right now and whether or not its going to be stalled because of the big circumstance youve got going on. Here lindseyy graham says i think the legislative process is to a halt until you get the comey episode dealt with. Really . For the most part, republicans are standing by the president. Especially those districts who voted for trump in november saying they have quote not seen anything that is that alarming. Theyre calling him the victim, and theyre accusing the media of barking up the wrong tree. There you have various members of the gop saying these things. In fact, despite all the hype of the last two weeks, President Trumps approval generating hasnt really moved. Joining me right now republican congressman sean duffy of wisconsin. Good to have you back on the show. Good to see you, congressman. Yeah, good to be with you, trish. Thanks for having me out. Trish so can congress get its job done with all of these scandals going on simultaneously . Paul ryan was spot on. We have i turn on my tv in my office and the media is frothing at the mouth trying to whip america up into a frenzy. We see that but every go to work to try to improve the american economy, which is to implement our republican agenda which in the end, helps people back in wisconsin and my district with more opportunity and more jobs. The thing thats interesting, trish, yesterday you saw the markets think that our agenda could be in jeopardy. When they see that actually that might not be the case that we can still get health care done and tax done, it pops back up because this is an agenda thats good for the American People and the American People. Trish yeah, i hear you. And you and i are in sync on that in terms of the agenda. The economic agenda. We need growth restored to this economy, and were all hopeful that this gets done soon. But in terms of of the ability to do it, you know, what im wondering, congressman, is if the market is sort of shrugging off the special prosecutor to a certain extent today. Theyre more worried about the potential that might come yesterday. They sold off perhaps in anticipation of that. Then you have the news coming at 6 00 last night and what do you know . Were up triple digits. So theres lot of people a sense of all right. Things will be fine. Were going to keep moving along, slugging ahead, and you want to be invested because you dont want to miss it. So heres what i think is interesting. Going back, democrats were never in favor of the Trump Presidency or the trump agenda. Theyve been decimated in states and the federal vernmen but the American People have bought into this agenda. Were moving forward, and we knew democrats were never going to support us. So at the beginning, they dont support it, now they dont support it. Nothing has changed in the course of the last four months. Trish so youre going to move forward. You say nothing has changed. I think theres a component to that as well in terms of americans fatigue with the media; right . In other words, its just one thing after another. The news cycle just doesnt stop, and you get the media jumping up and down constantly trying to point fingers, and i wonder, congressman, if Everyday Americans, especially those that voted for donald trump are saying. Okay. Enough. Its all the same. I think its less about fake news than it is about News Networks that dont show you both sides of the story or present one set of facts to drive a certain narrative. Im going to ask. What evidence is there that donald trump colluded with russia . What evidence has ever been put out . Theres no evidence. And what weve seen is theres been so many leaks that have come from every segment of the government. If something was there, clapper would have it, obama would have had it, and they would have put this information out, and it would have been leaked. We would have seen it. I dont think theres anything there. I think the markets see that. I think most people here see that. What democrats are doing, though, is theyre using this as a tactic to stall a great agenda thats going to help the american economy. Trish i think youre onto something. We talked to an investor yesterday who basically expressed a similar thing saying, look, if it was that bad, the markets would be selling off in a much bigger way. Forget 375 points. You would be off better than 1,000. I think thes somhing to that. The markets areustaying. Okay. We can deal with this. Thats right. Trish but, you know, overall, how long do you think its going to take . Thats one of the concerns; right . How long are we going to be dealing with this distraction . Oh, listen, democrats arent going to stop. They hate donald trump. This is going to continue as long as they can keep the ball rolling. But i would just point to you last week in financial services, we passed a repeal and replace of doddfrank. Its going to make it to the floor in june. Were rewriting flood insurance. Were going to do gse reform. We have a big, bold agenda. This has has stopped any of it. You now see the senate has a health care bill. Were starting to work on appropriations. Were starting to work on taxes. None of this foaming at the mouth with the media has done anything to camp down our progress to actually help save the American People economically. And, again, i think that theres a narrative out there that comes from the left that wants to be hopeful that well get off this agenda because what were really doing is remaking the whole obama agenda. Were undoing it. So as democrats focus on russia and comey, were actually focused on policies that help people. Rolling back rules and regulations. Doing the keystone pipeline. Trish i cant have these folks splintering off and saying within the Republican Party i would agree with you. Trish somehow hoping that donald trump gets impeached because thats their goal. Hey, trish, theres whats called the uss donald trump. And if that ship goes down, theres no lifeboats for any members of congress. Theyre going down with it. So if they want to punch holes in, thats fine. But were going to rise this agenda together and people have to stick onboard to make sure were getng tax and health care done. Trish il tell you. You have a very angry base if forome reason some republicans do try to take them down. Anyway, congressman, its good to see you. Thank you very much. You too, trish. Trish were up. We are up. Were up 117 points. How do you like that . Shaving off earlier losses. Shaving off yesterdays losses. All of this hope that we are indeed are going to see tax reform. And you know the special prosecutor thing, it aint such a big deal. Were talking about it, the intel next i believe that a goal of 3 gdp or higher Economic Growth is achievable if we make historic reforms to both taxes and regulation. Trish all right. That was treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin testifying on capitol hill. Mnuchins optimistic remarks, causing stocks to be a little higher right now. 3 . Hey, we would take it; right . We also have claims out today and a little bit of manufacturing data that is suggesting good things. So is it really going to happen . Are we going to get back on track with our economic agenda, given this circus, shall we say going on right now in dc . Joining me right now is steve cortez, someone who also advised donald trump in his campaign. Steve, ill start with you. Can it still happen . I mean sean duffy telling us, yes, theyre committed. Theyre keep working but it is congress. Trish, it can happen, and it will happen. I think right now while the Mainstream Media is in hester i cant, American Business i working, and we seehat in Economic Data and the stock market. I think one of the main reasons the stock market is coming back today to combine the two markets and politics, i think whats going on is the market is starting to realize that this special counsel is actually i think great news for the trump agenda. The reason i say that is the Trump White House is now going to be able to very legitimately say you know what . We are not going to answer every ridiculous accusation about russia, about comey. That is the job of the special counsel mueller. Lets get back to our bread and butter. The reason we were elected, which is the economy, immigration, growth, health care. So i think this is a reset button for the administration thats going to be very, very trish well, they kind of need a reset. Im kind of with you. I tend to be a positive person, and im Glass Half Full, steve, so i like the idea of at least getting all the, you know, the innuendo out of the room. Right. Trish because i hate this. I hate the fact that people are dealing in all the suggested types of facts, not real facts, and you need some real information. Right. Its been anonymous sources, shadowy operatives. Lets put it all in the light of day and what we know so far in the light of day, by the way, is no collusion. I will tell you as a veteran of the trump campaign, i believe very firmly that the evidence will come out that there was absolutely trish you think about all the shadowy sources. There are people there that really do want to take them down. Trish, its kind of scary. It really is i think in a democracy and a republic like america, the fact that these unnamed shadowy sources with the full corporation, by the way, of the Mainstream Media, which is hell bent on trying to construct a road to impeachment, which will never happen. But thats their intent. Trish and it has been from the very beginning. Dont forget maxine waters. Right. But heres the thing. Donald trump i think was elected. I know was elected to go and smash the crony washington establishment that exists for its own benefit to the detriment of the rest of america. And you know what . That beast is fighting back, and we shouldnt be shocked that it is, but we have to stay resilient, and i think eventually we will win. And when i say we, i dont mean just team trump. I mean america and Economic Growth so badly. Trish let me go over to sean. I think steve has a good point here in that the market is sort of powering through this and saying to itself, look, you know, in the end, well get what we need. And when you talk about what the market needs, it is tax reform. It is less regulation. It is repeal and replace obamacare. It needs those things for sure. They would help. But, you know, you said earlier in the segment about the data starting to come in, and its looking good as well. Earnings for the first part of the year, 14 . The markets are a little bit pricey. The e needs to catch up to the p part of it, the price part of it. Business is happening very, very good right now. So it would be great to get tax reform, it would be great to get health care reform. Trish are you telling me we dont need it though . You like the earnings. What happened if we dont get tax reform . The market will have to live with what the companies that make up the market will actually do. And at the end of the day if they can have an environment thats good for them, if they can have a political president if you will thats pro growth, thats good for them. But at the end of the day, they still have to get the work done and the work looks like its getti done right now. So going forward, i think, you know, you should be looking at this market and current prices and trying to figure out, like, forget the politics for a second. Theres a war going on between the establishment and the president thats not going to stop. But figure out where you can make money today in this market. One way to make money is buy lower pe names like we believe in cash free yield. Those companies are terrific companies to own. They actually generate real cash, and theyre doing it today. Trish amen. As neil likes to say, you dont need to be red or blue. Just green; right . People want to make money right now. Thanks, sean. Steve, good to see you guys. Thank you. Trish well, the media goes into shall we say overdrive about the white house right now. How much does the American Public even care . I mean, when you talk to people that vetoed for donald trump, does any of this matter to them . My next guest, howie kurtz is going to tell you how theres a real disconnect going on. Trish all right. We have a whole lot of breaking news today. Facebook announcing a deal with Major League Baseball to show 20 live games starting on friday. Shares of facebook, theyre up around 2 there on the news. Scary moment just a short time ago in time square. A vehicle speeding mowed down 23 pedestrians. Authorities do not believe that this is terrorism. There are reports that the driver, an american citizen, was intoxicated. Meanwhile, democrats to the Mainstream Media trying here to, you know, paint a story about donald trump and the russians. Theyre treating this comey firing in the latest news of Michael Flynn as the biggest story that has ever happened. That would be a bigger scandal than almost anything seen in anywhere president ial administration. I mean, this is the third biggest story of the night. Yeah. But that would be bigger than almost any other president ial scandal in history on its own terms if this story bears out. Trish but you know what . Maybe a big story but a lot of americans, especially those who voted for donald trump, they dont seem to care. I was just down in texas this week. A number of people there, theyre rather unfaced by it all. A new wall street journal poll shows nearly twothirds of voters say the comey story has not impacted their view of Donald Trumps presidency. So why is the media so hyped up . Well, i think we know why. Joining me right now howie kurtz, host of the Fox News Channel. Howie, first over to you. I mean, im wondering if americans are becoming desensitized to a certain extent in that theres so much news coming their way, its so antidonald trump, they just start to turn it off. There is something to that, trish. If every story goes to 11, then nothing seems like an 11. Now living in washington as a journalist, i think the firing of jim comey is an important legitimate story but in that same, wall street journal, nbc poll, it really struck me. Asked about the firing of jim comey, 29 approved, 28 disapproved. Fine. A third had no opinion. And that said to me a lot of pele not engaged. Dont particularly care. Havent been following it that closely. So to them, its not the earthquake that it appears inside the beltway. Trish im surprised that people simply dont care. I suppose if youre a trump supporter, there is a sense that theyre out to get him and this is what they do, and youre just saying to yourself, hey, as long as i have a job. As long as my neighbor has a job. As long as my children have a shot at getting the job, as long as i can put food on the table, those are the things that matter if i have Economic Security and real security, you know, the rest is just noise. Well, i think that they first and foremost are concerned about their basic livelihood. But lets be honest as donald trump took office, essentially the Mainstream Media clowned itself in journalistic integrity and look at how they do it. Buzzword, anonymous so you went. Look, trish, not everything can be watergate. Forget flint. Lets talk about how they covered the russian info. When he has two scoops of ice cream and everyone else has one, it is a top story. What is going on here . And a lot of people are tuning out. Trish i want to go back to howie for a second because you used to work at the Washington Post, and i see some of the headlines coming out of the Washington Post and for a paper that had once prided itself on really being the standard in journalism, it seems as though that has really started to shift, and i wonder is that donald trump or is that just the marketplace that we live in nowadays where theyre realizing at th ed to solve for some kind of narrative . In other words, they want their viewership or their readership rather wants to read some of this negative stuff and thus theyre writing it . Well, at times, ive criticized the post and other News Organizations for excessively negative and relentless reporting on donald trump. At the same time, it was the Washington Post that broke the story on mike flynn. I think what happened here are two things. Some of it is self inflicted. Nobody forced donald trump to fire james comey. But at the same time it feeds the media narrative that there must be something here, the contacts between Trump Associates and russia. We need to get to the bottom of it. When it, in fact, unlike watergate, we dont know whether ultimately there will be anything there. And thats a perspective i think is all too often lost in some of the breastless coverage. Trish yeah, and i go back to, don, if comey really felt the president was obstructing justice, it was his duty to Say Something. He didnt say anything. It was his duty to Say Something. It was not his duty to Say Something the next day. He said something in the next three months. But i am bewildered that were talking about this being a media creation. If you notice, we can talk about salacious headlines or the media being hyped up. But nobody is saying, no one on the right is saying what the Washington Post and other antitrump meat outlets is saying is false. Theyre making real claims based upon real evidence. No, thre not. No, theyre not. We might not agree with it. It might notake us feel good if were Trump Supporters or republicans. Trish heres my problem with all of it. Im going to jump in. Don, as a journalist, you always want to a couple sources on something. You dont want to run with something that someone may have a personal axe to grind, so to speak. They are not risking their journalistic careers putting out information. This is the Washington Post. This is the New York Times. This is not trish so theres a memo. Ill give you that. Were going to go, ford. Theres a memo, we dont know what the memo says. The New York Times is part of the memo and this is do you knowhy you need a special investigator. That is the right way to go. And well get some real information. Over to you, and then ive got to run. How are we actually basing an entire special investigator essentially on a New York Times article dictated by a third person here . Thats were not. Were basing it upon the president s continued malefice of the office. No one forced him to fire comey. He had the right to fire comey. Comey also told. The president to do for it. This is the president of the united states. Trish all right. All right. Guys. I hate to be the kindergarten cop here but thank you so much. Its just going to be a debate were going to continue for the foreseeable future. Howie, thank you so much, as always. I just want to mention everyone to check you out on media buzz at 11 00 a. M. On the Fox News Channel. Steve mnuchin speaking on capitol hill today trying to move the president s pro growth agenda forward. Mnuchin in the spotlight today at a Senate Banking committee ahearing where senator Elizabeth Warren accused the administration of changing policy to suit wall street. At issue, the 1933 law which repealed 16 years ago warned for one to reinstate glass steagall that would break up the big banks forcing to break up banking operations from commercial operations like lending. Listen to this. Let me get this straight. Youre saying that you are in favor of glass steagall, which breaks apart the two arms of banking. No. Regular banking and commercial banking, except you dont want to break apart the two parts of banking. This is like something straight out of george orwell. Ive never said were in favor of breaking up the banks. This is just bizarre. The idea that you can say we are in favor of glass steagall but not breaking up. We never said were in favor of glass steagall. We said were in favor of a 21st century of glass steagall. It couldnt be clearer. Trish and yet there was a lot of this kind of thing. The Exchange Just one example of the grandstanding that goes on at these hearings. Warren has sponsored legislation called the 21st Century Glass steagall act. And wile the administration has said they favor reform that would boost lending, a reboot. Mnuchin was so theritici of the president s tax reform plan. Meanwhile, the reform got by conservative billionaire charles coke who will launch a multimultimilliondollar campaign to drive trumps plan through congress. It will simplify the tax code, reducing the number of tax brackets from seven to three. Trish. Trish all right. You can always count on Elizabeth Warren for some fireworks. Thank you so much. Thats right. Trish former Federal Reserve chairman ben bernanke says hes puzzled by how different the market seems to this Political Risk, particularly to what he sees the biggest Political Risk facing our country, and it might surprise you. Well explain. Next. Trish former Federal Reserve chairman ben bernanke warning wall Street Investors about the dangers of ignoring washington politics and its impact on the markets. Mr. Bernanke says, and i quote, it always puzzles me that marks are blase about market risks until the last moment. Joining me now, don. There is something too little. As long as the musics playing, you keep dancing and when i think back, you and i both covered the whole financial debacle in 08. Right up until the end, people are optimistic. Whats your sense of things now . Why are they ignoring these potential . I think bernankes comment is kind of funny because it comes a day too late because wall street woke up to the dangers of wall street washington politics yesterday, and we saw this big sell off. Yeah, i think the marke has been a little complacent. I think the market has been complacent and theres been this expectation that theres going to be a big Corporate Tax rate cut coming down the pike this year thats built into evaluations and investors are waking up the last couple of days and saying, well, you know, we might not get it. Theres a lot of obstacles that stand in the way. Trish yeah, and if they dont get it, then its hard to justify these evaluations being where they are . Well, its hard to justify, but i dont want to overstate that because we cant forget we just got that you a pretty good earnings season. 15 Earnings Growth for the first quarter. Interest rates are still very low. The economy looks like its growing around 4 in the second quarter. Global growth is picking up. So i dont think wall street is totally asleep to whats going on in washington. I mean, how could the headlines every day . Trish everywhere you go, its all anybody talks about. Quickly, let me just ask you about the fed in all of this. Because told me yesterday the fed may not be able to continue on in its Interest Rate rising environment, given all the other concerns out there. What say you . I think its premature to say that. I think, you know, that theyre looking at 4. 4 unemployment rate. They think that wage pressures are starting to build, and i think their plan is to do two more rate increases this year and start winding down their balance sheet. And theyre going to need a lot more soft data to move them off that course. Trish don, good to see you. Thanyou much. Thank you.
