Out of these meetings. One of the greatest assets of the president is his accessibility. He talked with a number of people on his staff day in day out and that is not changing. Congratulations on your first on camera appearance. We will see how it goes. Lets hold the champagne for a little while. I know you stated earlier the president is neutral in the race for president of france. President obama had a very gracious calling the winner and loser in international watched elections in israel, france, egypt in its first election and in japan. Will the president do the same with the two candidates in france . I would imagine that would be the case. He made a practice of reaching out to foreign leaders across the globe and i would imagine he will do that once this election concludes but i dont know that for certain but i would imagine that takes place. Going back to the executive order on the Johnson Amendment, 20 years ago, congressman walter jones of North Carolina introduced the first legislation to repeal the Johnson Amendment and saidt the time it would take an act of congress. The president s executive order tells the irs agents not to enforce it, the law is still on the books. Does the president support a repeal measure for the Johnson Amendment . He is committed to religious liberty and protecting it, whatever that requires. This is the first step in a process and i dont think we are taking anything off the table when it comes to protecting the rights of all citizens of this country. What happened to the white house chief usher . That question has come up, she is no longer employed at the white house but we left on very good terms and wish her the very best and certainly hope for great things for her in the future. It is not uncommon you might have a transition of staff when the new administration comes in and nothing more than that, we wish the very best. I believe the deputy usher will be serving, acting usher for right now. The white house announced the colombian president was going to come and venezuela being a major topic, venezuela has been a big topic. What are t predents Major Concerns about venezuela and what does he hope out of colombia with regard to the situation . The situation in venezuela, the actss have been deplorable and something we are monitoring closely in terms of specific movements, engagement at this point. I cant comment any further but something we are aware of. The president says it is, quote, not good that human rights found an invitation, the unmasking of us citizens does the president think congress should repeat a question for congress, and it is sad that she has chosen to be transparent in this process and not to cooperate in this process. As this plays out, it will land on the right side of where we are but it is unfortunate, has no bearing for us. For a speech about potential peace process. I dont know if plans have been made but we will keep you posted. One lasquestion. Yesterday you said that the house, you gave the reasons why, moving in short order, they are waiting for the cbo to score this and figure out the timing of that waiting for the cbo even though it is fine. That is something for the senate to decide if they want to wait for that. It is not something that held us back. I know the gospel pretty well and the cbo they have been wron they can be wrong again and i think again we will let the senate make a decision whether they want to wait for that but we feel confident in where the plan is and moving it forward, thanks very much, see you on monday. That was White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee sanders. Filling in for sean spicer at the new briefing today, she has given her first on camera briefing, a very busy newsday, a lot of news on the economic front, a lot of news on the healthcare front as to where the bill goes in the senate. Welcome to the Intelligence Report as we watch miss huckabee sanders, we heard quite a few farreaching questions, not just the economy, but venezuela made its way into had press briefing. For the gop, evan sig friede, i am dropping my paper here. Former campaign manager, Foreign Policy advisor david, reaction here, a new person getting grilled. For somebody having a firsttime Sarah Huckabee sanders was able to go out eloquently put for the president s message and views without getting herself in trouble, no gas, nothing that will make news. She prepared the media with information and didnt distract from the message. Didnt drop papers like i just did. What do you think. A nonpolitical viewpoint, what about handling the press . She did quite well. Very capable and confident. She has done it many times before. Stating things the president should be supportive of and away the president does, i dont think the response with respect to healthcare, for the healthcare pass the house and overly opttic for the passing senate in its current form. You got to have the press believe your spin so it sounds by all accounts, a pretty good job for the first outing. It is not easy when you are getting badgered by the likes of that mainstream media. Them news of the day, i want to start with the jobs report. This is exactly what we need. 11,000 jobs added to this economy, the employment rate dropping 4. 4 . We havent seen numbers like that in ages. Does this suggest the fact that donald trump is in the oval office, the fact that he is talking about tax reform, healthcare reform, people are feeling more optimistic, more optimistic. Since the day Donald Trump Took Office americans have felt better and more positive about the economy and are going out and say im going to invest, businesses are say i am going to hire and when you couple that with how donald trump has reduced over burdensome regulations on business hes we can go out and hire more people and david will say it is bleed over from the obama economy and for the first month maybe, but donald trump is in charge and the buck stops with him and he deserves the credit. Do you think he gets credit for this jobs report . I am sorry but he doesnt. That is not how the economy works. There is nothing donald trump has done yet to improve the economy. This is definitely carryover from the obama administration. They did a great job decreasing unemployment. I am not saying trish make it is not because of obama and i will tell you why i know that which i covered the economy forever and confidence matters. How people feel matters. How can you think there is confidence . He has alltime historically low approval readings from america. Trish this goes to polling data people feel pressure. They cant say they like him but talk to anybody in business, Small Business owners, big Business Owners and if you say i want to separate donald trump the character, the man, the access Hollywood Tape from the Economic Policy itself they will all tell you less regulation a good thing, lower corporate taxes a good thing, lower individual taxes a good thing, this is what gives people the confidence to go out and hire. You cannot say that this is something he has had nothing to do with because he has had everything to do with that sense of confidence. Polls can be a little bit off and maybe they are a little bit off but to say that people are incrediblyfident i a president with historically low approval ratings, we got to live in the real world here. In november leading into the election even in the primaries on democratic and republican side voters, progressive or conservative felt they were being left out of the economy and you can say president obama had a great record but he didnt have americans believing in and donald trump is taken off is that americans believe again. Trish i spoke to Union Workers recently, historically they always moved to the Democratic Party but they felt as though no one in the Democratic Party has been looking out for them in a way they need and things they dont like about the president , they like the fact that he wants to renegotiate nafta. That is what im talking about. A sense of confidence in Economic Future and that plays into a jobs report. I will see you in a little bit, we have more to talk about in terms of this jobs report as i just mentioned, the Labor Department releasing its Monthly Employment report, the us economy added 211,000 jobs. What do you know. Beating the estimates of 185,000. The Unemployment Rate is continuing to decline falling to 4. 4 , that is the lowest level in 10 years. I our own adam shapiro joins us to break it down. I want to hear about ges as well. The 211,000 jobs that were created in april, a much stronger showing than expected. One recent the Unemployment Rate fell to 4. 4 . Lowest level since may of 2007. Ever generally raises rose in april, and year over year wages are up 2. 5 , an important number because the Federal Reserve watches that and they like anything going to to present. Labor force Participation Rate continues to hover around 62. 9 as low as it was in 1978. Donald trumps top Economic Advisor on foxbusiness this morning says the jobs report is one big victory for the trump administration. Take a listen. What we got done this we, continuing resolution, the government funded through september, healthcare build on, moving on to the senate, we got a great jobs report, continued to work on tax policy, work on regulatory reform, new head of the sec, we had a really good week. Job gains were posted in the Leisure Hospitality sector up 55,000, healthcare, 37,000 jobs, business purposes, 39,000 jobs. There were losses in the information sector which includes media companies, talking about reporters here, 7000 positions were cut. That is total piure of unemployment because it includes discouraged and parttime workers at 8. 6 which is the lowest level since november of 2007. I remember this being double digits, 14 during the worst of the recession. Trish we need more jobs reports. It is a good one and we will see more. Here we are on the better than expected jobs report, trading up slightly, 17 points after having been down most of the day. Tough week for oil. Oil prices have been certainly sagging. If you look at oil you can see it has recovered some. It is hitting a 5month low today and that is pressure about oversupply but recovering a tad, 15 minutes to go until oil closes the day. Stay with us, we are back in a moment. We have a lot more coming up as we continue coverage of the economy, donald trump, see you here. Predictable. The comfort in knowing where things are headed. Because as we live longer. And markets continue to rise and fall. Predictable is one thing you need in retirement to help protect what youve earned and ensure it lasts. Trish the market turning positive moments ago on the heels of that april jobs report and it looks pretty good. I like seeing stuff like this, the onomy adding 211,000 jobs last month, and employment dipping to its lowest level in nearly ten years. How do you like that. 4. 4 unemployment. Fair analysis, portfolio manager, Stock Exchange and jeff flock at the cme where oil is about to close the day. It has been a rough week, we will get to you in a second, you heard me with one of the democratic strategists who said this report has positively nothing to do with donald trump. This is all president obama and a leftover of president obama to which i say absolutely not, the president sets the tone and the difference in tone is that now you have a businessman who gets how onerous the regulation is, how difficult the tax situation is and making changes on that. That impacts confidence. That the regulation taxcut and healthcare reform feed into the us economy. Lets go through a couple things. Healthcare, we believe there will be reform, that you will see as an investor additional dollars being allocated towards healthcare overall. We would be investing in healthcare. When it comes to taxes you will get a deal there as well, that ll be imative, create Business Investment over the next 24 months, we need to get that. There is High Expectations the tax reform that will come from business on the business side is going to have a real impact in the us economy. We do need to start this. Trish we had an analyst, writes the bullseye brief, he anticipate a meaningful impact in growth to s p earnings. And tax cut, is that possible . 20,965 might be low on the dow. He is right if you take the tax rate from 35 to 20 , you do get the juice up in the bottom line. Topline growth will drive the market as well and you could get Business Investment and Consumption Patterns that pickup in 20182019 and that would bode well for overall s p market returns as well as productivity that will kick in. Trish you are saying it needs to happen, the market wants it to happen, market anticipate what will happen and what is the ceiling on the floor . They say it is going to happen . It is a fair assessment, it will happen. We saw the market come into positive territory ltening to the press briefing, what Sarah Huckabee sanders had to say. Looking out from policies making their way through congress, very bullish market, it is a relief considering the performance of march even though we saw february margin jobs creation, overall the economy and the fed is calling the gdp transitory so moving in the right direction. Trish there was a strategist at wells fargo pointing out earlier today. And and oil starts to deteriorate. How is that playing out . It depends on the drop in oil prices. We are up 6 rigs, that is big time, we are not producing a lot. The other thing weighing on this market, we got as low as 43. 76. If you dont if you get a problem with the economy you lose demand and if you lose demand oil goes into the tank, that is weighing on this market, worried that we wont get what you are asking for which is reform, stimulus and that sort of thing. Trish dont forget the smart money of lori points out they are betting thatthis is going to happen in order to support these levels in the market so as far as oil is concerned, a dismal economic situation, it is not going to be that bad because these policies are going to have a meaningful impact and these policies are going to affect confidence and that is what we are seeing today. Good to see all of you and a lot more coming up, donald trump and House Republicans scored a big victory with the passage of the repeal and replace bill but the fight isnt over, the bill is headed to the senate where republican moderates are expected to make major changes to the bill. As after a dvt blood clot, ital i sure had a lot to think about. What about the people i care about . Including this little girl. And what if this happened again . I was given warfarin in the hospital, but wondered, was this the best treatment for me . So i asked my doctor. And he recommended eliquis. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. Yes, eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. Eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. Both made me turn around my thinking. Dont stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. Plus had less major bleeding. Both made eliquis the right treatment for me. Ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you. Trish all right. Lets take a look at shares of mickey ds. [laughter] interesting. I cant imagine Warren Buffett using an iphone, but he probably does. Apple on track for its third record close this week. Well, President Trump is one step closer to fulfilling his Campaign Promise of repealing and replacing obamacare. The house passing the Gop Health Care bill 24 hours ago. You know, you saw it right here. It was a historic moment. We were right here, i was walking you through the entire thing on yesterdays show at this exact time. Well, now this Health Care Bill is heading to the senate where its expected to be an uphill battle, shall we say. I want to go to blake burman whos got the latest on the white house. Reporter youre right, the next step is a massive step at that because senators, republican senators here in washington have already said they might not actually take up that house bill. Instead, they could end up writing their own bill, and then the big lift at that point would be meshing those two bills together and trying to come out of some sort of republican on republican compromise to repeal and replace obamacare. This was one of the Big Questions a little while ago at the White House Press briefing with the Deputy Press Secretary in place of sean spicer today. Just about how are they going to go about this, and what does the white house support with it . Sanders tried to make the argument that the president , as she put it, you should never underestimate him. And she said the basic pillars will remain intact. Of course, the devil remains in the details going forward. Theres also been two different philosophies as it relates to the house and the senate, and that involves the congressional budget office, the score. Basically, the guess as to how much this thing might cost. The house ended up passing their bill without getting a cbo score with the updated amendments. Many republican senators say, look, we want that score, and they say they will not move forward without it. So i asked sanders about that difference in philosophy. I think i know the gospel pretty well, and id say the cbo is not the gospel. Theyve been wrong before, they can certainly be wrong again, and, you know, i think, again, well let the senate make a decision on whether or not they want to wait for that, but we feel very confident where the plan is and moving it forward. Reporter trish, the president tweeted earlier today this was a big win in the house, and he said, hey, keep in mind that theres a phase two to all of this. To get to phase two, though, theyve got to get this past the senate, some sorof compromise among republicans, and then they can get there. Still a long way to go. Trish im so glad you played that quote, because that was perhaps the most memorable moment reporter it was our question too, how about that . Trish she probably grew up listening to a lot of that gospel, and she said, look, theyre not gospel. [laughter] good moment. Thank you so much, blake burman. Take a listen, everyone, i want you to hear this, because this is what the dems are saying actually, singing. This is what they did just moments after the Health Care Bill passed in the house. Listen. Hey, hey, hey, goodbye trish you hear that . You hear that refrain from that song . The democrats singing and waving good bye to their republican counterparts, basically taunting them saying, you know, theyre not going to win the Midterm Election in 2018. Juvenile behavior. You know, this is what, ill tell you, this is what is wrong with politics. When youve got people like that acting like clowns, down there singing a song like that trying to taunt the other side and saying, you know, its over for you now because you did this, it shows you they are not interested in the future of the american people. They are interested in themselves. They are interested in reelection. And this just symbolizes why america is so frustrated with all of em. Evan cig freed and david are with me, and, evan, your reaction to that very poor display of behavior. It was beneath the dignity of the office they were elected to. It was in poor taste, and we shouldnt be having congressmen come out and celebrate the fact that they think a vote that the other side has taken is going to have them kicked out of office. Theyre there to work with congress and the president because people in 2016 told the members of congress and elected officials theyre sick and tired of dysfunction in washington, and thats trish and this is an example of that dysfunction. I mean, no class, number one. Thats clear. But then they put that right out there on display for the entire world to see and they couldnt carry a tune. Trish i mean, as a democrat, dont you feel ashamed by that . Well, i agree that that was poor form. Theres no place for taunting in the legislative process. That was a mistake. But the democratic members have a point. House republicans have put themselves in jeopardy by passing a bill that takes away the protections for preexisting conditions. This is not likely what americans want, and well see as the process goes forward whether that stays in the bill. As you noted, this is the first step trish all right, ive got to im sorry, im coming up on a hard break. It was disgusting of them to do that. It reduces this to nothing but politics. Theyre not going to make a federal offense so, wait, were going to be in jail, and my kids are going to be what . Trish Delta Airlines apologizing and offering compensation to a California Family that was kicked off a flight and threatened with jail time, yes, jail time after refusing to give up one of their seats on an overbooked flight. The family put their 2yearold in a seat they had bought for their 18yearold son who had flown home on an earlier night, and Airline Workers said, no, not allowed. They demanded that they give up that seat, a seat that they had paid for, and said that the 2yearold wasnt allowed to sit in the seat because faa rules say children under 2 must ride on their parents lap. Thats actually not true, so that, perhaps, is where delta really tboofed up. Now goofed up. If they had just said, look, this is not the same person that you bought the ticket for, they might have had a leg to stand on. But instead, they went straight to a lie which is that a 2yearold is now allowed to sit on its own in a seat next to a family member. The family was kicked off the flight, forced to find a hotel room and pay for new tickets the next day. You know, were doing this story because we all know how bad these airlines are, and i guess were all asking the same question why, why are they so awful . Wheres the Customer Service . And anything be done to fix it . Joining me right now, gregg jarrett, of fox news, and an aviation crisis consultant. Good to have both of you here. David, i will start with you. Why not . I mean, it feels as though Airline Travel has deteriorated significantly when you think back to sort of the golden age, and my inlaws tell me about it when they used to fly in the 1960s and 70s when it was posh and fun and elegant. And now youre reduced to, frankly, being better off on a bus than on an airline. Why has this deteriorated . Oh, i think theres a number of reasons why its deteriorated. Probably the biggest one is theres so many people that fly now. There is 938 Million People got on planes last year, thats up 50 from trish happening on, that should help, right . If you have more customers, you can make more money, you can offer a better product, you can diversify your product base. I dont understand why more customers would create such bad service. Well, one of the things that airlines do is they want planes as full as possible so they can maximize their revenue, and frequently that does not coincide with really good Customer Service. Almost everybody you talk to has an example or two or three examples of just a Horrible Airline flight. And the other thing is its always brought to our attention now, especially since this united incident a month ago. [laughter] trish im glad its getting Media Attention but because, il tell ya, i feel it every single time i fly. What about the fact that these companies have gotten bigger and bigger . Youre looking for somebody to blame, the antitrust division of the the president of justice which approved all of these megamergers. Weve gone from a Dozen Airlines now down to four Major Airlines flying 80 of the routes. As a consequence, you have abysmal service, crowded planes, smaller seats, higher costs and price fixing in some cases, both tacit and expressed. And its terrible. I mean, who wants to fly these days . You know, id rather get a root canal than go fly [laughter] trish theres all kinds of little tricks they play. I was just on an American Airlines flight, and they pulled away from the gate and had us sit on the tarmac for an hour. Why do we have to leave the gate . Part of their ontime departure. These Airlines Need to institute better policies. A good policy is jetblue. A lot of these incidents are caused by overbooking. Jetblue has a policy we will not overbook. If for some unusual reason you get bumped, we have to notify you four hours in advance. With delta, that was an overbooking. And the Flight Attendant or delta employee be got it all wrong. Its not a crime, you dont go to jail, your kids dont get taken away from you trish that was one of the threats. And, in fact, they totally misstated the policy of the faa and delta. If youre 2 years old or less, you must be in a car restraint strapped to a ticketed seat. They bought that seat, they were doing the right thing. The agent got it wrong. Delta should do more than apologize, they ought to refund not only their tickets and pay all their expenses, but damagings as well. Trish yeah. Well, they did, as we understand it, they did give the family some compensation for all of that. But ill tell you what this gets back to, guys, it gets back to, frankly, common human decency, and that is what they are missing right now on the airlines. You think about what the ceo of united said just the other day in an interview. He said we forget sometimes that we are carrying humans. Yes were humans. Were human beings, and i think they do forget. He never should have admitted it, but thats exactly whats going on here. They forget that they have human beings. They forget that they have customers, and theyre treating people, gregg, like cattle. They are. And increasingly, you know, Flight Attendants and a lot of them are very good and nice and kind, but increasingly ive seen it, and i fly a lot, Flight Attendants whore asive. Congress needs to step in. Trish yes. United is changing their policies. Im not seeing delta do it or some of the others, and Congress Needs to step in and put a stop to it with policies that congress, by law, institutes. Trish i think it makes sense. And just one final thought. You look at, david, some of the european airlines. Now, believe me, im all for competition and marketbased things. I think gregg makes a valid point. We dont have competition in airlines because too many monopolies exist. But really, david, i mean, fly british air, air france if you look at, if you look at the underlying problems here especially for overbooking, right, i mean, united may change their policies, southwest is not going to overbook, jetblue has a policy, but this is not going anywhere. This is all about money to airlines. It is about moving crews around, it is about maximizing their revenue trish all right. I hear you. And theyre going to take the hit. Trish im going to say the next person that can come up with an upscale airline thats still reasonably priced has really got a big opportunity. But as you point out, theres so many darn regulations, its hard to get some of these hubs. Thank you. Were talking about the french elections next. Too. Your parents have been talking about you for years. Sorry about that. Theyre all about me saving for a house, or starting a college fund for my son. Actually, i want to know what youre thinking. Have a seat. Knowing th the most important goals are yours. Multiplied by 14,000 Financial Advisors, its a big deal. And its how edward jones makes sense of investing. Trish all right. Lets turn to the election in france. This is very interesting. Voters are heading to the polls, and theyre going to pick their new president this weekend. They have a choice here between the centrist, the former investment banker from rothschild, emmanuel macron, and they have the far right wing candidate Marine Le Pen. Our very own Ashley Webster is in paris. Good place to be. Pretty good assignment. It should be interesting there, ashley. [laughter] reporter yes, it is. You know whats interesting, maybe the two most well, i dont want to say hated, but not particularly respected candidates. There is a growing sense, trish, that a larger number of people here in france dont particularly care for each candidate. They certainly dont like Francois Francois hollande whos the president right now, but theyre not keen on Marine Le Pen or emmanuel macron. Macron heeds handily in the latest leads handily in the latest polls, but when weve been speaking to people on the street, they say, nah, dont really like either of them. Take a listen to this. I think im part of the group that neither like macron or le pen. You have to choose between the bad and the baddest. No, i dont, i dont vote. I dont vote. Its my, its [inaudible] both of them during the debate, they were very bad. One was well, both of them were quite aggressive, and i didnt feel very [inaudible] reporter so you have to choose, trish, between the bad and the bad. Actually, theres been some protests today. Some students earlier getting all upset. The police came in, used some tear gas. Why are they upset . Because they dont like either candidate. Its kind of a strange situation, but i can tell you that the turnout could be the lowest since 1969. And, oh, by the way, monday is a holiday here in france. They love their long weekends. Its actually victory day in europe celebration on monday, so a lot of people may get out of the city, theyve probably already left. How many of those are going to vote on sunday . How that affects Marine Le Pen and her chances, well have to wait and see. But its a very strange election, one that could have farreaching impacts. Trish i actually think that could help her, because i think the people that are really worked up about the direction france is taking on the immigration front, on the economic front, well, they may stick around. Youve got far or rightwing candidate Marine Le Pen facing off against centrist emmanuel macron, former investment banker, and thats all happening on sunday. The white house says President Trump will work with either candidate, no matter who wins this election. But, you know, were wondering, is this election in any way going to echo what happened here . Joining me right now is director of programs and education, paul botticelli. Good to have you back on the show. Are there any similarities here . I mean, youve got a population in france that feels as though they increasingly have absolutely no voice. The p. C. Environment has taken over. And as such, people that believe in islam and extreme islam are being welcomed into that country despite what everyday, working class french people are thinking and saying and their hesitations. Is it at all in any way similar to what happened here . I think its quite similar because across the developed world europe, the United States you have this group of people. Its not just immigration. It is that, as you mentioned, but you also mentioned before the working class, those who feel like the economy is rigged for those who have power and access to government. And so thats what a lot of the people in the north of france who have moved to le pen, they are the people that dont go on vacation on this threeday holiday. They may well show up and vote whereas a lot of people disillusioned may ay he. We neeto be careful with it, but theres enough similarity that we can certainly speculate. We shouldnt say that she has no chance. Trish you think about france of all cups, that is a great example of if youre born into a certain class or certain kind of privilege, you have your life rather mapped out for you. One of the great things about america is weve always had this opportunity, and were working to preserve it. But in france its increasingly been sort of let them eat cake kind of philosophy. So you have the haves, the have nots, and its very hard to work your way out of a certain class. Right. Trish economically. Thats right, exactly. It really is a rigid system based on education, based on, you know, access to power, the official institutions, the unions, whatever. And there are just enough french people now that have put her at least at 38, 40 , and well see. Probably shell lose, but its not a giveaway, for sure. Trish paul, good to see you. Thank you so much.
