Theres some other big shockers in there as well. We have a lot to discuss this hour. I am trish regan. Welcome, everyone, to the intelligence report. In addition to worries about her ties to wall street, Clintons Campaign specifically concerned about her relationship with Goldman Sachs. We know lloyd blankfein, the head of goldman, is a big proponent of hers. Blake burman joins me with more on all of this, and so theyre recognizing anyway in these emails, blake, that this is going to be a problem, yes . Reporter absolutely, trish. And the wikileaks document dumps, theyve shown a behind closed doors coziness between Hillary Clinton and wall street bankers, and the latest batch coming from earlier this morning shows the worry. At least one top outside adviser had with that very connection. In an email chain with top aides in january, just earlier year, adviser Mandy Grunwald writes of the content in some of those Goldman Sachs speeches the following. Quoting here its pretty bad. She is critical to some extent of what led to the crash, but the more memorable stuff is totally accommodationist. Grunwald writes to clinton aides that the material from those speeches should be reviewed. In another email that reemerged today, clinton appeared to be frustrated that her message on the economy wasnt resonating. Her speech writer writes, quote hrc just called me and expressed a fair amount of frustration with how things are going. She said weve given a series of very good policy speeches, and in between we just keep giving her polltested lines that dont work, like make the middle class mean something. Now, that very email was dated june 8, 2015, that happened to have been just days before clinton was supposed to give her First Campaign rally focusing on what she calledder if four fights. Called her four fights, one of them being the economy. And in that email chain it ended with Campaign Manager robby mook saying he wanted a Group Phone Call to discuss. By the way, trish, gone back, looked at that transcript from the speech. Clinton ended up saying the words saying she, quote, wants to make the middle class mean something again. [laughter] a lot of talk there about messaging and just how to handle it all. Trish sure. Im just amazed that she keeps blaming the staff. Thats something i find interesting and perhaps problematic for her. I mean, maybe this is the root of her problem. Thank you so much, blake. Shes out there saying polltested lines that dont work . She expects everyone else to come up with the ideas for her . I mean, think about Bernie Sanders. He had some lines that worked because hed been working on them for so many years. Donald trump, those lines, youve got to admit, are coming from him. Joining me right now with thoughts, Mercedes Schlapp and Fox News Contributor leslie marshall. Mercedes, you know, youve advised so many campaigns. Authenticity in a candidate matters. Yes, you have people around you helping you, supporting you, giving you information, helping to back up arguments. But shouldnt you fundamentally sort of be generating some of those lines yourself . Oh, absolutely. I think what you learn with candidates is that, actually, sometimes the best lines come from the candidates themselves. But it just shows that for Hillary Clinton, her comfort zone is when shes scripted. Its very clear. You saw it in the past debates. It is calculated, articulated in a way where she is using the polltested lines to try to see if somehow she connects to the American People. When you look at, for example, the speeches shes given on wall street, i mean, youve seen the fact that she has struggles to connect with the middle class because, obviously, her or and bill live in just a different type of way. And so i think she does, clinton has struggled with authenticity. I think that because of the fact she comes across so scripted, if it wasnt for all of Donald Trumps flaws, you know, i think it really finish thats why people for the most part dont like her. Trish i mean, look, they dont like her. Theyve looked for any reason any reason, thats right. Trish leslie, to not have to vote for her. And yet, you know, you look at the polls, and theyre not, theyre not in his favor right now. Florida, for example, hes going to be campaigning there any minute. What is it thats working for her in florida that he needs to try and capitalize on . I think whats working for her in florida and most battleground states across the board, the electoral college, is that she is speaking more about issues. You know, look, donald trump was giving a fairly decent gettysburg address, if you will, a trump gettysburg address. And then trish in gettysburg. Yes. Opens mouth and inserts foot, and he does time and time again. In a sense, donald gets in his own way. Donald, in a sense, has been, i think, his own worst enemy. And i think hillarys trying to remain on the issues as we just heard in her speech in New Hampshire. I think thats one of the reasons that shes leading so much in the polls. And people may not like her, but they dislike him more. Trish they dislike him more. I mean, isnt it a sad state when thats really what its coming down to . Yeah. It really is. Trish how does that i mean, when people go to the voting booth, mercedes, id like to get your perspective on this, because i talk to a lot of people that, you know, when you dig down, they actually sort of secretly are supporting him. They dont want to say it though. Right. Trish and when you ask them why, they do support him on the issues. They think economically his program is more sound than hers. Less regulation, lower taxes is what the economy needs. Now, they may not like how its all dressed up with the bow on top, but they feel that policy wise he is best. Do you think theres something to this and that people will not admit in these polls, and they wont admit to who theyre actually voting for because theyve been shamed into not doing so . Sure. Well, i have to say i think the democrats have been very effective in trying to point the finger and try to call any of trumps supporters, besides calling them deplorable, calling them extreme. So i think it really does make the Trump Supporters a bit more shy or those people on the fence. With that being said, i find it fascinating traveling in, lets say, northern virginia, for instance. A battleground state. You barely see signs. You dont see clinton signs, trump signs trish that is so interesting, right . I dont like either candidate trish they dont want to talk they dont want to talk about it. Trish hes out there in florida today talking about these polls really being phony. Here he is, watch. Some great polls have just come out. I believe were actually winning. Now, the press [applause] i believe that. If you read, if you read the New York Times and if you read some of these phony papers, these are phony, disgusting, dishonest papers. But if you read this stuff, its like, what are we doing . What are we wasting time for . The truth is, i think were winning. Trish all right. And yet, you know, youve got the abc poll which shows her actually 12 points ahead right now. And yet, leslie, ive got to say system of these have been all over the place. How much stock do you put in em . Well, after the primary when we saw not just between hillary and bear beny, but also between bernie, but also between donald and all the other people on that platform, weve seen a lot of errors that came out from the polls, and i would have to say im not putting the biggest stock in the polls. But i am looking at the numerical analysis trish okay. Electoral college, right . And its tough. Its a very, very hard way for him to get trish so you bring up a very important point. Mercedes, hes got 15 days to go. Which states would you be telling him, spend the most time in now . Donald trump needs to move into maralago and spend as much time as he can in florida, as much time as he can in north carolina, in nevada. Those are going to be critical states for him. I i am looking at florida very, very closely, because thats the one state as we know, and usually in president ial elections that will be incredibly important. If clinton wins florida, it is over. Trish very, very interesting. Im going to talk to you guys in a little bit, mercedes and leslie. Thank you so much. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is up in New Hampshire, my home state, and she is being joined by liberal lion Elizabeth Warren from massachusetts. You see Hillary Clinton there speaking in manchester right now. This is her third trip to the live free or die. Thats the motto in New Hampshire since july, live free or die. You know, ill tell ya, she sure seems to be doing her best here to reach out to the far left rather than the live free or die crowd. She wants the folks that loved Bernie Sanders and that love Elizabeth Warren. Lets listen in for a minute. For 30 years now, republicans have pushed trickle down economics, and theyve done one thing, theyve helped the rich and powerful get richer and more powerful. You know, donald trump talks a big game about how the game is rig ared. Lets be clear rigged. Lets be clear, donald trump is right. The game is rigged. Its rigged for guys like donald trump. Trish and then you see governor hasan by clintons side whos running against senator kelly ayotte for the senate seat. Were going to talk about the senate races coming up. My next guest right now says, you know, Elizabeth Warren and Hillary Clinton are not only wrong, but the kind of rhetoric that theyve been employing out there on the campaign trail is extremely dangerous and and could send our country in absolutely the wrong direction. Joining me here on set is ed con ard, the author of the upside of inequality, an intriguing book is an intriguing title, and eds point is, you know what . You need a little inequality out there in order for people to aspire to more. Were going to get to that in a bit. But lets talk about the prescription, the economic prescription that Hillary Clinton wants for this country. What would be her utopia . More regulation, more spending, more taxes. Shes proposing 165 billion of spending on top of 36 of gdp that federal, state and local governments are already spending. Its projected to grow to 45 of gdp as baby boomers retire. Trish all for what . Its because she wants free college, free daycare, you know, free time off when you have i mean well, we know trish anything free, i guess. College to be more expensive, all the regulation of banking, Larry Summers hasnt done anything to reduce banking, its just made the middle class more expensive. All of these high costs ultimately get loaded on the customer which is the middle and working class. And what we have seen over the last seven years instead of seeing a robust rebound and then moderate growth, weve seen nothing but tepid growth off a permanently lower base, and they want more of the same. Trish ive never seen anything like this. My worry, my real worry for our country, for our economy, for my childrens future is that we are increasingly becoming more like europe. Were more like france, and then you look at china, which is effectively sort of replacing where we were in the global economy. Theyre all about growth just and now we seem to be settled into this idea that, you know, 1 is okay, 1 growth, and and we can just tax our way to prosperity. Yeah. I dont know why people think that, because the if you look at the past, we have had double the employment growth of germany at median wages which are 15 higher, and we have one highskilled worker for every two lowskilled workers. Germany has one highskilled worker for every one lowskilled worker, so were doing it with half the workers. Weve been way more productive than europe, but were constantly move anything that direction. Trish so whats the future then . I think that one thing that trump has been successful in is that hes helped restore this message of prosperity within the Republican Party to the middle class. I think that it has been and i know you were a big mitt romney guy but, you know, frankly mitt romney, he needed a little donald trump in him. [laughter] he needed to be proud of what he had achieved. How, you know, and who knows where this race is heading still. But how do republicans, how do the conservatives continue to embrace that message Going Forward . I think theres trish with Elizabeth Warren and Hillary Clinton saying this partys anything but . Yeah. I think theres a more sophisticated version of donald trump coming whos going to be very, very difficult to beat. Its not against immigration, its against lowskilled immigration and substituting highskilled for lowskilled to accelerate growth. And on trade, youre for trade, but youre against trade deficits which export jobs, bring in savings. We have no use for those savings at zero interest rates. When republicans start to embrace that aspect of Donald Trumps message, theyre going to reach out to the trumpreagan democrats and the people on free markets and have a position thats going to be very, very difficult for the democrats to beat. Trish plus, i mean, four years from now if Hillary Clinton is to win, what will this economy look like . I think its four more years of what weve seen only worse because weve continued to see an increase in regulation and spending. Trish recession then certainly. Trish no growth. Ed, thank you so much. Good to see you again. Check out his book. All right are, at t says it will buy time warner in an 85. 4 billion deal. This is a biggie, folks, that is sure to reshape the media landscape if regulators or and politicians dont stop it first. But should they . Donald trump says if hes president , hed squelch it. This is a rare thing that donald trump and the dems seem to agree on. Were going to talk about this merger and what it might mean for you. Thats next. We ship everything you atcan imagine. N, and everything we ship has something in common. Whether its expedited overnight. Or shipped around the globe,. Its handled by od employees who know that delivering freight. Means delivering promises. Od. Helping the world keep promises. Trish all right. U. S. Lawmakers are growing increasingly concerned about the possibility of an 85 billion at t time warner merger that could create a major shift in american media. Many believe this deal raises significant antitrust issues and would hurt competition within the industry and, thus, consumers especially after comcast acquired Nbc Universal back in 2009. Both the trump and clinton campaigns, they both weighed in over the weekend agreeing that the deal raises regulatory questions that need to be addressed. Watch em here. As an example of the power structure im fighting, at t is buying time warner, and thus cnn, a deal we will not approve in my administration because its too much concentration of power in the hands of too few. [applause] weve got to get to the bottom of them generally procompetition and and less concentration, i think, is generally helpful especially in the media. Trish all right, joining me with his thoughts on whether or not it actually happens and what the future of media is in this new environment, media tech capital managing partner port per vin port ervin. Youve been talking about these deals with me for a long time. Trish this is one you thought i go all the way back to aol time warner 15 years ago. Trish that one didnt do so well. Do you think this deal goes through . Its going to take a long time, and its going to get very, very rigorous regulatory overview. Ftc, Justice Department, probably some members of congress are going to call for a committee hearing, fcc because at t is a regulated telecom, but it will get through because its a vertical merger. Its not a horizontal merger. Theyre not taking any competition out of the picture. Its a defensive measure for both at t and time warner because media is in a state of volatility. You see it everywhere. Trish oh, i see i was just telling viewers this on friday. My kids will get very annoyed and frustrated if they have to watch a commercial thats right. Trish to them, you know, they should be able to watch whatever, 6, 6 and 4, whatever they want on demand. Yep. Trish the concept of surfing channels almost doesnt even exist to them. Well, Linear Television is losing viewers every minute, and the telecoms, the wireless whether its at t or verizon or sprint or tmobile or anybody else they have got no place to grow. Theyre mature businesses, and they get one source of revenue, the subscription rate from the users of their phones. By putting content in, they can get subscription revenue and advertising revenue, and advertising is going to shift from linear to digital. Trish okay. So content, content, content. Thats whats critical in this environment. Distribution no longer really plays a role . Well trish kind of get it anywhere . It has to be wireless, it has to be digital, and it has to be efficient. And one of the, one of the real losers in this deal is going to be comcast and, next, charter Time Warner Cable because theyre old media. Cable is going to give way to super fast wifi and 5g distribution. Trish let me ask you this, ask you say consumers would not get hurt by this . No, i dont think so. Because the regulators are going to say to at t, you may have all this content, hbo, for instance, youre not going to be able to charge your competition more for hbo than you charge your own customers. Trish so whats next . Cbs up for grabs . Theyre going to combine with viacom first because the Redstone Family wants that to happen. Trish watch for that. The shares are trading down today, perhaps in reaction look at the distributers in the tech, you have google with youtube. Thats not going to cut it. They need trish they need something more. They might buy cbs viacom, get a movie studio and some networks. Google, and Everybody Knows that apple was looking hard at time warner and backed away. Well, apple tv is nothing the it doesnt have p content. They bought content in the music business, and its paying out really handsomely. They will buy somebody in the content provision area. Trish so, you know, if im an investor looking at this space, is this an attractive space to be in . If youre a content provider, this is a shot you might get acquired . You bet. Thats right. I think its ironic that time warners share price is down, its down over 20 points right now, and its a really good buy. It may take you 12 months to collect, but it is trish its a good buy. Its going to happen. Thanks so much, porter bibb. Thousands of National Guard soldiers, furious right now, theyre in a pretty big jam because today the pentagon is demanding they repay their enlistment bonuses that hay received ten that they received ten years ago. Many of these soldiers, they dont have the 15 grand on them or in some cases even more to give back. Some even having to refinance their mortgages all because the government made a mistake and paid them too much. I mean, what would happen if the government overpaid food stamps or welfare to Illegal Immigrants . Do you think the government would demand out be paid back too . Weve got the details next. What powers the Digital World . Communication. Like centurylinks Broadband Network that gives 35,000 fans a cutting edge game experience. Or the network that keeps a leading hotel chains guests connected at work, and at play. Or the it platform that powers millions of ecards every day for one of the largest greeting card companies. Businesses count on communication, and communication counts on centurylink. Trish so how do you like this . The government is suddenly demanding that thousands of National Guard soldiers give back money that they had already been paid. The pentagon is demanding they repay enlistment bonuses that they received ten years ago. You know, many of the soldiers, they just dont have 15,000 on hand to give back, but the government says they have to because that money was paid in error. At some point its kind of bad business, right . You make a mistake like that as the government, you overpay your soldiers, people that defended the country, that risked their lives, and yet now you want to claw it back . Fox news anita vogel joins me with more on this. Anita, wow. Reporter yeah. Its quite a story, trish. Veterans, of course, feel very under the gun because unless they pay this money back, theyre being threatened with interest charges, tax liens and even wage garnishments. Apparently, a number of audits reveal that the california National Guard about ten years ago paid too much money for these enlistment bonuses in some cases and even gave them to the wrong soldiers in some cases. But everybody, though, completed their duties overseas. Now, nearly 10,000 soldiers in california alone have been ordered to pay back the bonuses of roughly 15,000 or more. The widespread reaction here . Youve got to be kidding me. I held up my end of the contract, i deployed, stayed in an additional six years as an infantry officer, served honorably, retired honorably. I didnt think there would ever be an issue. Reporter now, for its part, the california National Guard says this is a federal program and, unfortunately, their hands are i tied. They gave us a statement saying, quote the california National Guard does not have the authority to unilaterally waive these debts. However, the california National Guard welcomes any law passed by congress to waive these debts. Until that time, our priority is to advocate for our soldiers through this difficult process. Now, many high profile veterans say this is like pouring salt in the wound and is nothing short of embarrassing. That is the worst experience a human being can have. And the idea of going after troops who, in good faith, received a financial bonus ten years ago and then served in combat some of whom were wounded is simply nuts. Reporter so the california National Guard says it is doing everything that it can. It is helping these vets file appeals with the National Guard bureau and the army board for corrections of military records, thats a long name, which can wipe out these debts. But veterans say this process is way too long and too burdensome, and today were hearing from members of congress of both sides of the aisle, from both sides of the aisle who say, you know what . The Defense Department snap their fingers and do something about this and waive these debts, and they ought to do it right now. Trish, back to you. Trish thanks so much, anita. Yeah, youd wish the Defense Department would have a little class in this one and waive the debts. All right. Meanwhile, were moving on. Overshadowed by the fight for the white house is, of course, the fight for congress. Insiders say the battle for the senate will hinge on just six states that could go either way. Were going to break them down for you and exactly what is at stake when we come back right after this. music playing push it real good. announcer vo or you can take a joyride. Republican leaders right now are growing increasingly worried about the party keeping its majority on capitol hill. Theyre worried that they might take Senate Candidates down with them. The senate is going to be won or lost in these handful of states. Some even say florida right now early predictions have the senate slipping between republicans and democrats added even 5050. Im always part plaques by this. Im an independent so i have no problem crossing at the eye out for what ever canada i might be voting for. What is the thought here. Is it that people are gonna literally make a big ask through republican or democrat they dont think that they can cross the aisle at all. See make its asset its actually a fascinating dynamic. It could be a person voting for trump but theyre mad at the senator is running in nevada for example. He was not going to be supporting donald trump. You have the other Case Scenario where they say im not voting for donald trump being played out. Thats it what makes these battleground states. Makes it very interesting to see what well actually end up. In this election we went through miserable primary process. In terms of the country as a whole they really got exposed to the worst side of politics in that there were 70 candidates speaking semi jabs at each other. It really left a fractured party in the end and republicans they havent been able to get their act together and do you think its can cost them quacks. Oh yes i think its gonna cost them. At 73 i dont always trust their numbers. It looks like there can be in the democratic column. One clear example of that i think its actually confused voters. Part of the problem was that she served as the john mccain protege. On the other hand Donald Trumps message was resonating like nobodys business here in New Hampshire. How does she walk that line. I think what it Margaret Thatcher say if to be on one side or the other. And that is to a certain extent what has happened i think a day before the whole billy bush thing came out she was quoted as saying donald trump is a wonderful role model. In part because she got herself stuck that he wasnt. What advice would you give right now as we try to win the senate seat. I think thats what kelly shouldve stuck to in the first place. She is very strong in the Foreign Relations committee. Stick to the policies. Stick to what works. This is where they had focused so much on temperament, tone and personality lets talk about the fact that the Republican Solutions would be better for america and i think thats where these candidates need to go. Enough with the donald trump part. This is what we need to work on. We need to keep a Senate Majority with republicans in order to ensure that we are able to do this. Go after Hillary Clintons corruption. I think that is an area where they are still focused. Our goal is to defeat Hillary Clinton. The fact that it is the pay for play scheme and let the American People realize that working to put in the Clinton Cartel if we move in that direction. It is politics 101. You are stronger together. Do you think they will learn their lesson should they not succeed. I think they will possibly. I have to agree with mercedes somewhat. Democrats did this with obama care. I agree with you. You have to own it. A wonderful job walking that line. You just head to understand that trump is flawed. Trish leslie, thank you so much. Donald trump about to take the stage there is a Campaign Rally in Saint Augustine florida. Hes can be there in just a few moments. Florida is crucial. In this election if he wants a shot at the oval office. With the states early voting. They will be taking the stage any minute now. 4,000 people have turned out today to hear the message of hope for the united states. They also want to hear his intentions that he talked about earlier. We spoke to Trump Supporters were here today heres what they told us. It has to do with where our country stands today. We will literally lose our supreme court. Everything and with donald trump there is a hope. On the other side im apprehensive about it. It makes me concerned. So are all of his volunteers. And trish just to give you an idea this is early voting starting today in florida. And people here in Saint Augustine and st. Johns county they know that it could actually offset. Republicans requested 745,000 mail ballots they had returned 503,000. He needs to get everyone out to vote. If he is going to succeed in florida. Take you so much. That is bad news for public tensions. The market is trading higher today. What is a mean for you the taxpayer. Its coming up after this. When a moment turns romantic, why pause to take a pill . Or stop to find a bathroom . Cialis for daily use is approved to treat both erectile dysfunction and the urinary symptoms of bph, like needing to go frequently, day or night. Ultimately he thinks it will happen. We will be right back about why they will be putting more strain. Trish markets are trading up right now. Were up about 84 points right now on the tao. But, Money Managers are already predicting that you will be in for some volatility in just about 15 days after november 8. They think that volatility is coming no matter who wins the president ial election. This will put further strain. They depend on some upside in the market especially since the recent study found that state run pension programs and nearly 6 trillion in debt. Nationwide they are underwater because they were wrong about the longterm market going back to 2000 and politicians made promising unions that were actually unrealistic. And now its now its getting less and paying more. They are 6 trillion short said in the side just 35 cents for every dollar of pensions promised according to a new report wisconsin is the only state with more than 50 funding. The five worst include illinois where 60 of state workers retired in their 50s. Pensions at bridge 40 average 40 grant there. Most state employees had less than 2 of their salaries to their pensions. Give us really rich benefits today that appear to be free and if it does blob in our faces wont block for 20 to 30 years. Politicians dont really care about that. The cure now there are only seven fully funded public Pension Plans in the u. S. One is a city of fresno. This workingclass city has a surplus how they do it the city council was conservative in employees were not greedy. We been able to do that. We offer a really good at retirement system that isnt going to break the bank and it allows our city to make to remain solvent. See have something so you have something at the end. Then to be reformed and have nothing. That was the leader of the police union. They have said dave said that once a city agrees to pay a pension its set in stone although an Appeals Court said thats not true that is a big deal. Regardless in the end obviously solving this is can a mean likely higher taxes and lower pay for current employees into the retirees. Trish its such a mess. They thought they could be guaranteed whatever. And in this kind of environment that weve been we been living in its increasingly challenging. Thank you so much for joining us. A very close friend and advisor to the clintons for decades is in the hot seat today after his Political Organization gave nearly half a Million Dollars in Campaign Cash to the wife of an fbi official who helped oversee the fbi official fbi investigation.
