Lets get back to what were talking about, the president. You do like his appointments, you like his policies, direction, you like where hes going, its the delivery of it. Is that what youre having a problem with . I think the president of the United States has a responsibility to create and maintain a level of gravitas, and i think that hes been a little too flippant, but thats not thats not any kind of conclusion, i think donald trump has an extraordinary opportunity to by virtue of his ability to use executive orders, use his influence to deregulate. He has the ability to create very significant stimulus without incurring any debt. Liz how does he stand up compared to what president obama did with his stimulus . I think the only thing stimulative about president obamas stimulus was the title of the bill. Liz stimulus . Also stimulates higher tax rates and taxes to pay for it, right . That sure is part of it, but it was a very poorly crafted bill and did not focus on stimulation. It focused on extending unemployment benefits. Extending all kinds of existing programs. Liz you know Chuck Schumer took obama to task, saying he went in the wrong direction, should have focused on jobs. The voter likes what donald trump is doing, like his policies. I hear what youre saying about tweets and the way he says things, its unnerving to people, certainly people in the media. You have a new book out, am i being too subtle. Is that it . Tell us about the book . Its really something they talked about doing and people encouraged me to do for many years, i never got to it and i finally decided i have to do it. Press Secretary Sean Spicer saying, quote the president has accepted the recommendation of the attorney general, Jeff Sessions x the Deputy Attorney general regarding the dismissal of the director of the fbi. We have jim hanson at the center if security policy. What do you make of this news . You know, liz, this may be the first bipartisan thing trump has done that both sides can get behind. I mean, the republicans have said all along they havent trusted comey for failing to prosecute hillary for what seemed like some pretty egregious violations of classified information and email rules. Now, the democrats have also said they believe comey improperly inserted himself in e liz yeah, but, jim, this comes, this firing comes within days of james comey testifying about russian meddling into the election. I mean, you could see the headlines tomorrow about it, right . Yeah, i think so. But i think one of the reasons thats being given is that he was massively wrong when he testified about huma abedin emails being sent to Anthony Weiners laptop to. As it turns out, he said it was hundreds of thousands, as it says it may be hundreds or thousands and that they were part of an automatic backup system from her phone. So huma may still be in jeopardy, but it sounds like comey didnt know what he was talking about. Hes lost everybody confidence. I dont know think about that thinks he knows what hes doing now. Liz on what grounds do you think he was fired . I think thats part of it. I havent heard anything obviously, i believe youre right that the democrats will claim this is to stop him from moving forward on, you know, trump russia and these other things, but theres no there there on the trump russia allegation. So i think theyll use that as messaging and make a lot of noise about it. I dont think thats what it is. I think its the fact that no one now believes he is competent to do his job on either side. Liz what are your thoughts about the attorney general, Jeff Sessions, and the Deputy Attorney general, rod rosenstein, recommending that he be fired . Yeah. I think there is, obviously, some whether its fall please sans or malfeasance or incompetence, something went sadly wrong for the two of them to make that known and for this to be the announcement, you know, coming out of the Trump White House that both of them say he needed to be dismissed. Not just resign, but dismissed. Thats a major move. So i think hes done something that led everyone to, at this point, conclude that his time at the fbi needs to to end. And i think thats fair. Liz you know, so he was a political appointee, he served under president obama, he came out of the Corporate Private sector. You know, so hes been heavily criticized for basically stepping into the election by both sides of the political aisle. So who do you think will be his replacement, jim . Who do you think theyre looking at . Yeah, thats a ive got to imagine theyve got a short list, because hes been on the hot seat for a while. I would hope they probably move outside of the fbi, which has been fairly political. So they may be bringing in someone from, you know, outside i would say andy mccarthy, you want my choice, former u. S. Attorney, would be a great person to run it. But i dont have any specific info as to whos on the short list. Liz youre talking about the fbi official, right . Hes been implicated as being compromised to some degree as well, right . I was speaking of the former u. S. Attorney who prosecuted the blind sheikh, andrew mccarthy. Liz okay. Yeah, i think theyve been looking at this for a e, and ille interested to see what the actual final straw was, because the call for dismissal from both top justice officials or top, attorney general and deputy, thats a pretty major move and a major thing for them both to say. Liz what are your thoughts, have you ever seen an fbi official, a directer, fired in the middle of an investigation involving a sitting president . No. Now, there havent been very many of those, so i think its a small pool to choose from. But this is going to be a political hot potato no matter what because, as we discussed, the democrats will seize on this as evidence that trumps trying to shut down the russia investigation. I dont think thats the case, because i dont think theres much there. And i know it will continue, you know, to the extent that theres anything to determine. But the way the leaks have been coming out about that for the past six months, if there was anything to that investigation, wed have heard something about it. Is so i dont think its that, but thats the way its certainly going to be played. Liz the precipitating event, to your mind, is james comeys misstatement about the emails involving huma abedin, right . Heres another question for you, james. Will james comey be allowed to freely speak once hes let go . There are some pretty ndas in place as far as investigations like that. If you remember, in the hillary email investigation they made all the fbi agents who were even going to be working on that case sign special nondisclosure agreements so that they could not talk about it even with their colleagues within the fbi. So im sure comey is bound to not discuss any of the specifics of this. Well see if he abides by that, but im sure theres stiff penalties if he decides he wants to, you know, talk about things hes precluded from talking about. Liz okay, we only have 20 seconds left.
