Republican strategist karl rove told us yesterday, both parties will have a rules fight. He told me that senator sanders will go after the socalled super delegates to gain more influence. On that note after last night, donald trump says it is too early to count out sanders. Call him crazy bernie because he is not very good. I never hit him, dont forget. I havent started on him. I havent said anything about him. Maybe i will have to start, based i see he wins, wins, wins, everybody sits around the table saying he cant win. Deirdre some say senator sanders is staying in the race to push his agenda. Fox businesss peter barnes is with me now. Peter, is senator sanders purpose to push Hillary Clinton to the left or Something Else going on . Reporter that seems to be it according to analysts to push clinton to the left along with the whole party with the platform, official policy positions delegates vote on in Democratic National convention in philadelphia in july. He can push harder on the platform and against clinton if he has more delegates, right . He has every incentive toy stay in the race and get more delegate. Compare sanders positions compared with clintons now. He proposed free tuition at all public colleges and universities. Clintons college after for thability plan isnt free. It is more aggressive than 2008 run. She embraced debtfree higher education. Sanders propose ad barrage of new taxes. Clinton is proposing significant tax increases than she did in 2008. Of the sanders called for federally mandated 15 an hour minimum wage. She is supporting raising the wage to 12 an hour. In 2008 she said the hourly federal wage should be raised to 9. 50 an hour. That is just the tip of the iceberg as far as her movement to the left. She also moved on not cutting social security. She is now against the Transpacific Partnership trade deal. She has laid out a plan to reform wall street, to crack down on it even more than doddfrank did. And on health care, she Just Announced a new medicare for more plan that would allow younger people, perhaps as young as 50, to buy into medicare like it was a private Health Insurance plan. Sanders has proposed medicare for all as a form of getting to universal Government Health care. Deirdre. Deirdre peter, thank you as always. Peter barnes there. Do you think senator sanders has pushed Hillary Clinton farther to the left and if so what does it mean for the general election . Well, deirdre, no doubt she is as far over to the left side of the stage as she can get without falling off. Yes he pushed her but she is campaigning to be bernie light. Whatever she says me too, but not quite that far. Me too, but maybe not all the way. As a result, hillary is not showing she is leader but showing she is following and following Bernie Sanders right off the edge of a cliff. Deirdre governor to your point, senator sanders does seem to bring out same kind of passion that donald trump has on the other side of the aisle. Donald trump oddly enough tweeting this out about sanders. He said, i dont want to hit crazy Bernie Sanders too hard yet because i love watching what he is doing to crooked hillary. His time will come. Essentially for the moment saying senator sanders is more or less beneath my view. I dont have to attack him the same way i have to attack hillary, right . Well, maybe. You know ive said this publicly, Bernie Sanders has a pretty good handle on the diagnosis. The fact the game is rigged. Some of the same things donald trump has said. Some of the same things many of us have been saying but there is insiders game and been really painful and harsh on the workingclass people. About those things, bernie is exactly right. Here is what i have said. Bernie diagnosed the problem pretty accurately. But his treatment plan for fixing it is more like a witch doctor than a neurosurgeon. I dont want to say bernie is crazy. He is not crazy. Let me say i respect the guy because i think he really believes what he is saying and he is saying what he believes, and even though i disagree dramatically with his solutions i think would destroy the country economically quicker than anything weve ever seen, the fact i respect he really believes what he is saying. Deirdre does really believe. To your point, governor, he and donald trump are both talking about at least one of the issues that people care most about and that is jobs. Yes. Deirdre that was almost referendum from west virginia. He didnt attack the coal industry the i am way Hillary Clinton did. Rightly or wrongly he offered a 41 billion package to workers there, versus Hillary Clintons 30 billion. Maybe that bankrupts everybody but he is out there and he does seem to believe what is saying and connecting with people. I want to ask you something about trump because he appeared to suddenly soften his tone, speaking about this proposed temporary ban on foreign muslims entering the u. S. He appeared on fox news radio, kilmeade and friends. Here is his comment. We have a serious problem it is a temporary ban. It hasnt been called for yet. Nobodys done it. This is just a suggestion. Deirdre so, governor, what is your take on his comments in the past and then what seemed to be a softened tone there . Well i dont think it is really any different than he said. He never said it would be a permanent, all time, for all time ban but he did say we have to have a moratorium, put a stop until we figure out what is going on. So he qualified it even back right after the san bernanadino shooting when he first made those comments. So i dont think it is all but i do think it continues to resonate with people because there are a lot of folks who look at this whole process just say, the republican establishment in washington seems to be oblivious to the fears and anxieties of people and so do the democrats and thats why bernie and donald trump are doing so well. As far as why Bernie Sanders is doing so well, for gosh sakes, who doesnt like santa claus . We all do. Deirdre we all like free things, why not . Sure. Absolutely. How is corralling cash for trump different . Is it a harder sell . Well, you know, i started with scott walker. So i went 02. Hopefully there are a few viewers hope i get this one right. But the truth of the matter is, i always said, deirdre, i was eoing to back the presumptive eventual nominee and so what we learned in this last electoral season is that the establishmentoriented personalities and policies were not met with the voice and vote of the people. And so my guess is, is that candidate trump will fit the republican profile as other republican candidates have fit it. Some of the angry rhetoric about him or some of the soreness that people feel about him i do think will dissipate once he is named the nominee of the party. Let me tell you, very powerful thing to be republican nominee. Think about it, only 10 months into his political career and he captured nomination of one of two american political parties. So he is on the job lerner, he is a great lerner. We had number oneonone conversations past couple weeks. There is soreness out there. But like every other campaign season. The democrats will have to coalesce too but i think well do a better job than they will come the fall. Deirdre when you mentioned coalescing, donald trump in some respects honestly has a harder path to go on in the idea of unity. Not everybody in the Republican Party has been behind him. In fact mitt romney very openly criticized him about his tax returns and trump is saying listen i will be the first candidate since 1976 to make a decision not to release my returns. Mitt romney as you know told neil cavuto that trump is probably hiding something. Well play this quick clip, so everyone is on the same page. Hold on anthony. Frankly i think we have good reason to believe that there is a bombshell in Donald Trumps taxes. David what do you mean . I think there something there. That he is not anywhere near as wealthy as he says he is or not paying kind of taxes we would expect him to pay or perhaps he hasnt been giving money to the vets or to the disabled like he has been telling us he has been doing. Deirdre so romney is still calling on trump, that clip was from february to release his tax returns. In fact in a post on facebook just moments ago, romney posted mr. Trump says he is being audited. So there is nothing that prevents releasing tax returns that are being audited. What do you think of all this, anthony . Well, listen, i cant speak for the candidate about this. I can only give my personal view and i think donald trump is making a smart decision not to release these returns because this would be cannon fodder for Opposition Research next three months. It is distraction right now. It will die down. If there was some bombshell in those returns, department of justice or irs would already be detonating that bombshell, deirdre. Im not super worried about that. I love and appreciate and respect governor romney but i do disagree with him here. Im a team player. President ial politics an all politics for that matter is a team sport. And sometimes you got to dust yourself off and join forces with people that may or may not be your favorite people in the world but you know what . Were wearing the same jersey and were much songer and were way Better Together than we are apart. So i do disagree with governor romney on this i have respect for him as human being. He is role model to me in a lot of ways but i think he is wrong on this. I hope governor romney will reconsider his position as we get towards the fall because i would like to see everybody unify around the candidate. I want to shift gears if you dont mind, you had numerous fantastic interviews, one with former secretary of the treasury Larry Summers, that will be featured or your show, wall street week but here is part of the conversation. I dont think u. S. Government is to be run like a questionable real estate deal. His way of doing things comes out of his past and, that is certainly an experiment we dont want to run. The kind of volatility that his investments have had is not the kind of volatility that america needs. Deirdre okay, so Larry Summers, for the moment unconvinced. Im sure you had a great back and forth. Well catch it on your show but did leave your conversation with him any different, anthony . Well, i will say this in case people missed the show, it is friday nights at 8 00. He will not be Economic Advisor in the oval office next year. We figured that out. But lets just put it this way. Larry is partisan and so am i. Good news we were able to have a candid intellectual conversation but where i disagree with him, is that donald trump, as a masterful way of putting things that upsets tell again yaw intelligence yaw, eye v. League, to the great enjoyment of red meat american crowd. It will be fascinating election. I think he will be a analyst in the white house. I think he will be a deal maker. Look its a great tax system. He is proposing biggest tax cut since Ronald Reagan was in office. He asked for advice to tweak the plan because the big issue out there right now deirdre is, 10 trillion tax cut, we cant afford it. What larry and i did sit down with some top numbers crunchers. We found we could reduce the cost of plan from 10 trillion to four trillion over 10 years and still get economic punch out of it. We presented this to the trump operation. Hopefully they will take some of our advice. Deirdre steve, brass tacks, for people that say what i would actually pay in taxes if trump wins the presidency. Lets get to the bottom line. Deirdre what happens . You heard that clip from mr. Trump and thats actually much in conformance what we are talking about. You can broaden the base a little bit. So rich people lose some of their deductions and loopholes, maybe youre not going to cut top rate to 25 . Maybe have to cut it to 27 or 28 but that is still deirdre, my math a lot lower than 42 now and lot lower than 50 which hillary wants. Deirdre that is great point. Repeat it. This is complicated. Here is other thing, people really do care an awful lot about this. They sure do. Deirdre rich people may lose a few of their deduction. Yeah. Deirdre but that is quote, unquote the most pain they will feel . Well, basically what will happen, hopefully again, you eliminate some of the deductions. By the way Ronald Reagan did this in 1986. Get rid of all the stupid loopholes in the tax system. You flatten out rates, make them lower. That is republican orthodox position for long time. That is what a lot of candidates were for whether marco rubio or ted cruz or jeb bush. You get rates down. I want to clarify this again, it has been misreported 100 times. Donald trump is not talking about raising anyones tax rates. He is talking about across the board lower rates. All he is saying maybe with the math we might not lower them as much as he had said we would. The other thing is, on the business side, businesses, corporations would see 15 Corporate Tax under donald trump. How many times have we talked about this on your show, deirdre . With the highest Corporate Tax today were losing businesses. Deirdre u. S. Is Something Like 3 . You got it. Deirdre when a u. S. Company wants to move headquarters overseas you cant be surprised. Got it. Would cut the highest in the world tax rate down to 15 which would be one of the lowest. I think donald trump is exactly right. You do that, those business move back to the United States, they will move back quickly. See more jobs, more factories and more plants. If you do correct spending cuts and budget discipline you can do this plan, grow the economy. As we reach the end of president obamas tenure, there are people in speaking of nuclear arms, extraordinarily anxious about the deal that we struck with iran and the message that we are sending to the world. As somebody who is an expert in military affairs and foreign affairs, is there any way for us to somehow come back to neutral ground be and seen as stronger . Well, right now, we are perceived because of president obamas foreign policy, as weak, and as a direct result, you have iran, that is, of course, i think going to have a Nuclear Weapon with some certainty in maybe 10 years. Perhaps earlier. North korea has tested four times, almost five, perhaps, in the near future. The chinese have modernized weaponry, the russians have gone far ahead of what we put in the new start agreement, and theyre modernizing their fleet. No the world is not less safe as a direct result of mr. Obamas 2009 nobel peace prize, which he won, really, for nothing but promises he was going to do something and really hasnt done anything to curb the appetite around the world for terrible weapons. Imposters call taxpayers telling them they owe money to the government and the irs assured taxpayers they will never contact them over the phone without having sent a letter first. Gerri i guess you have to say never say never. The chief commissioner of the irs received we are never going to call you. The main reason he has done that is what you described where there is a scam where the bad guys call innocents people and try to bill can them out of money. But there are agents calling people on the telephone because they are initiating an audit. This is the reason they would be calling. Deirdre dont ever send a prompt from a phone d dont ever send a check from a phone prompt. Gerri even if you are getting a phone call saying you are being audited, never send a check. A Taxpayer Advocate works for the irs but does not report to the irs. She found out in iowa some of the revenuers were calling taxpayers. The irs doesnt request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication such as Text Messages and social media channels. The irs does not call with threats of lawsuits or arrests. They are trying to say we are not the bad guys. But if you get one of these phone calls i would contact the irs local office and make sure these people are on the up and up.
