Divides in the Republican Party. This is risk reward. Im deirdre bolton. Trumps comments are everywhere. Donald trump fresh off major victories overnight warning of riots if the republicans try to stop him at a contested convention. Trumps words coming with these images still fresh in the american minds. Anger and violence at his campaign rally. Today trump warned bad things would happen if he doesnt get the nomination. Gop frontrunner issued this menacing prediction if he doesnt get the nomination at a contested convention. Deirdre trumps Senior Policy Adviser Steven Miller is with me now. Welcome back. Some of trumps language, as you know, is controversial. Karl rove offered advice in an opedstyle piece in the wall street journal. First line was change your tone before you urge your fans to knock the crap out of them, ask yourself if any president would admire your saying that. What do you make of these comments and the criticism that trump seems to be getting from everywhere . Well, deirdre, it is great to be back on with you, first of all. I can just say that were not going to be taking any advice from karl rove, who lets be honest, makes his living now raking in money from large corporations and not interested in the future of the Republican Party. We can set that aside. Mr. Trump was speaking figuratively and i think everybody understand that. What disappoints me is you have people like senator ted cruz, instead of condemning the farleft fascist protests that weve seen trying to disrupt free speech is attacking donald trump. Thats very disappointing. Deirdre all right, i want to get to senator cruz in a little bit, but its linked together to top conservatives who are meeting secretly but the meetings are less secret as time goes on. Media leaks happen. Conservative activist Erick Erickson says republicans should launch a thirdparty candidate as an alternative to trump. Heres his comment. We find donald trump and Hillary Clinton both unacceptable, and want a call for unity taken within the Republican Party now. Have the conservative republican candidates who have dropped out to hold delegates on the first ballot so donald trump cant get to 1237 delegates. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln took three ballots to become the nominee. If he can do it without riots, the other should be able to do it as well. Trump saying it wasnt the elite, wasnt the leaders, the guys knocking on doors for decades. Deirdre steven, when you hear people in the Republican Party talk about finding a thirdparty candidate, i dont know who would be crazy enough do that at this juncture, how does that make you feel, how does that change your strategy . Its ridiculous. But i think most americans reaction, lets be honest. Most americans reaction when they hear Erick Erickson saying that is who is Erick Erickson . Thats what 300 Million People if you ask about Erick Ericksons comments would say. Put that aside. Speaking seriously for the moment. The effort to deny trump the nomination is an effort to deny the American People the ability to control their own economic futures. This isnt just about mr. Trump. Its about the tens of millions of disenfranchised americans who theyre trying to rob of a voice in this election. Deirdre all right, speaking of that. The rnc has made a few different comments. Weve heard from a few different people even within the party. But essentially, giving the idea that perhaps the media has created this perception that the Voters Decide the nomination, heres one comment. Were going to play it for you, stephen. Republican establishment acts bewildered, but they should not be bewildered. As much as they try to distance themselves from trump now, Republican Leaders are responsible for his rise. For eight years they drained all the policy debate in this country by replacing thoughtful engagement with resentment and hatred. I take donald trump very seriously. What he is promoting is a form of hate that is virulent, and that is bad for this country. It is time for all of us to speak out. We cannot have a man like this as a serious candidate for president and have him threatening to take over the white house. Deirdre stephen, i want to get to the rnc in a minute. Obviously, that was not the rnc. That was Elizabeth Warren and before her Senate Minority leader harry reid talking about this kind of moral cowardice on the part of the gop. This goes under the category of donald trump taking hits from everywhere. It goes under the category of people that Republican Voters will never take advice from. Harry reid and Elizabeth Warren. So if harry reid and Elizabeth Warren are saying hey, gop voters dont vote for donald trump, we dont like him. Thats an advertisement for donald trump. The reality is harry reid is terrified of the fact that tens of millions of Republican Voters are going to be energetically going to the polls for donald trump, and tens of millions of democratic voters are defecting from his party to support donald trump. Thats where this is coming from. Deirdre stephen, to your point, we saw in massachusetts, 20,000 democrats actually change parties so they could vote for donald trump. So getting back to the idea of the delegates, the race for the delegates. Donald trump clearly in the lead, but senator cruz says trump will not get all the delegates for the nomination. Heres the senator. If donald continues getting delegates at the same rate he has so far, he wont get to 1237. He needs to get 54 of the remaining delegates to get there. He hasnt been doing that, hes been getting below 50 . Deirdre any truth to the comments . In fairness to our viewers, trump is by far the closest candidate to the magic 1237. Well, we do know that ted cruz was a mock debate champion in law school. But i was not aware he was a mathematician, i dont know about his delegate math. What i do know is weve had contests now in around 30 states and donald trump has won overwhelmingly in those states and ted cruz performed very, very poorly, and has no path to the nomination whatsoever. Whats interesting also is ted cruz is always talking about how he wants this to be a serious race on the issue, yet he never seems to talk about the issues. All he ever says is i can beat donald trump, look at the delegate math, never talk about the issues anymore. Ted cruz is officially running a completely issuesfree campaign combined with occasionally lending aid and comfort to farleft protests. Deirdre stephen, sometimes the hits donald trump takes, people say we like his spirit, we like the tone, but he hasnt offered a lot of details, and cruz is getting support from unlikely sources. Lindsey graham, who weeks ago made a joke saying somebody killed ted cruz in congress, nobody would really move on that, and now hes endorsing him. Does that concern you at all, that cruz is pulling in Party Leaders . It doesnt concern me at all, that lindsey graham, the architect of open borders, the architect of our failed interventionist Foreign Policy is saying he thinks ted cruz should be president. No. That doesnt concern me at all. It should concern ted cruz. Interested to know what ted cruz thinks about the endorsement, but doesnt concern me at all. Deirdre all right, ahead of the convention in cleveland, it was announced recently that Donald Trumps Campaign Manager will also be a delegate. Is that unusual . I dont really pretend to know the history of delegates and the history of the United States, remember, the voters are the ones who cast the votes and the delegates are pledged by the voters. So its much ado about nothing. The voters are the ones who decide where the delegates go and were going to get to 1237. I want to underscore again, in all this talk about trying to stop donald trump, whats really going on here . You have a Political Class that is terrified that the gravy train is going to get shut down. Its been hard out there for americans, everywhere outside the washington, d. C. , but here in d. C. Its pretty good. Here in d. C. , the Political Class is doing wonderful. And theyre worried that if donald trump is president , suddenly, were going to start taking care of the guy who goes to work at a steel mill, not the guy who goes to work at a lobbying firm on k street. Deirdre when people say donald trump as a businessman was part of the system as recently as 12 months ago, as critics point out, he has given money on both sides of the aisle to both types of candidates. How do you answer that one on one . Donald trump, as a businessman was a wildly successful is a wildly successful businessman, owns many of the best, most Iconic Properties in the world. Ted cruz as a politician is a failed politician. You have a successful businessman running against a failed politician. I dont really see that as a difficult contest. And again, if you have all of these establishment people lining up behind ted cruz like lindsey graham, it really tells thought people who want things to stay exactly as they are, are lining up behind ted cruz. Deirdre have you seen some of the pieces that compare donald trump to Andrew Jackson . Im just curious. I have seen some of the pieces. I will tell you this and i dont want to pretend im a historian. What you do see happening here is a forgotten and disenfranchised group of americans getting engaged in the political process because they understand weve been veering dangerously in the direction of an oligarchy. And this really may be a onceinalifetime chance to give everyday people control over their futures again. Turn out millions of people running into the political process for the first time. Deirdre donald trump is attacking Hillary Clinton in a new ad, it portrays clinton as weak on major Foreign Policy issues. Now the ad also shows russian president Vladimir Putin wrestling a man to the ground. The kremlin lashed out against the ad saying it demonizes russia. Stephen, are you surprised that a kremlin spokesperson commented on an American Campaign ad . Not really. I guess people will comment on anything, if you give them the chance. But the ad really shows just how easily donald trump is going to be able to take apart Hillary Clinton in a general election. She is an incredibly weak candidate. She has a failed record as secretary of state that you could just pick apart into a million pieces and donald trump is going to win in a crushing landslide in the general election. And also stephen, i want to stop you there, because both she Hillary Clinton and donald trump have a lot of groundswell support, they both each have very high negatives. More candidate per party than any other candidate. Well, donald trump has been focused on a primary where hes getting attacked, at the beginning, 18 people. You almost needed to get i think we had ran out of podium space on the stage. Remember the early debates . Deirdre yeah, there were 17 or 18 candidates to your point. For the camera to pan from the left to the right took 15 seconds to get to the end of the debate stage. Attacked by 16, 17 people for a few months, its going to have an effect. But in the general election, theres going to be a huge amount of support for donald trump on the issues. Hillary clinton, remember, she is one of the people who helped put together obamas terrible trade deal, the Transpacific Partnership and praised it 50 times. We are going to go into michigan, ohio, pennsylvania, and we are going to win working class voters crushed by the trade deals. Deirdre stephen, since youre talking trade, a lot of people say Donald Trumps plan, this 45 tax, attacking china for currency manipulation, that those moves are not realistic either. If china is engaged in trade cheating, we have two options. Unilateral surrender or protect our economic interests. Weve been trying, weve been executing unilateral surrender. Weve been doing that since 1997. Deirdre youre saying those comments are what he said in other contexts, starting point for negotiation. Right, weve tried unilateral surrender. What happened . We wiped out the middle class. You know who was pushing that . Ted cruz who has fought against our efforts to combat china on currency manipulation. If we dont stand up to china, china is going to continue robbing us of jobs and we wont have a middle class left. You vote for Hillary Clinton or ted cruz, you get more offshoring to china. Deirdre talking about Foreign Policy expertise, highranking officials are concerned about Donald Trumps lack of specific expertise, former nsa director Michael Hayden spoke about it this morning on fox and friends. Donald trump was asked the very question, who do you talk to on Foreign Policy . He said he talks to himself. I think he was kidding. Deirdre heres who i am going to pick for my cabinet, but just begins to seen speaking with people that are recognized as military experts, as Foreign Policy experts. Has he waited too long to talk about his cabinet . Not at all. He named chairman of Foreign Policy council. My former boss, u. S. Senator Jeff Sessions, one of the leading lights in washington, d. C. On Foreign Policy. The chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee. Hes been in the Armed Services committee for 20 years and Jeff Sessions is putting together a team as we speak. I want to answer a Bigger Picture if i have a second. It is amazing that have you all the people who made all the wrong decisions lecturing us how we have to act on Foreign Policy. We have had a disastrous Foreign Policy. Intervention in iraq, intervention in libya. Whatever weve been doing in syria and refugee crisis, everything that could gone wrong has gone wrong. And donald trump has always been on the right side of these conflicts over time. And so the American People have to ask themselves do, they want another knee jerk interventionist go to war, intervene, build a nation, build a democracy, or do they want someone whose core instinct is caution, prudence, examine the facts, dont rush into a foreign country to build a new democracy . The second option is donald trump. Donald trump has been consistent on the issues of putting americas interests first in Foreign Policy and not rushing into nation building. Whether its economic policy, whether its immigration policy. Whether its Foreign Policy, we keep getting lectures from people who wipe out the middle class, sent manufacturing jobs overseas, left border wide open and cost us hundreds, trillions of dollars for the foreign ventures. Deirdre resisting the nation building as you say, talking about immigration and then talking about protecting Social Security and medicare. Those, at the end of the day are what most Republican Voters care about, and to your point, he is strong on all of those issues. Stephen, thank you so much for the time. Hey, thank you. Ron, welcome back. Glad to have you. Should kasich have gone oneonone with senator cruz . No, good afternoon, deirdre. I think were at the point there are three candidates running for president of the United States on the republican side of the aisle, and all three of the candidates should have been there. Donald trump said, well, im going to pull out, not going to be there. At this stage, i think the American People need to see the contrast between a governor with proven leadership, a senator and businessman. All three should have been on the stage, and all three should be on the stage. Deirdre its a missed opportunity, we know that john kasich said we know people are just beginning to get to know me. This would have been a Good Opportunity for people to get to know him even better. I think this would have been a better opportunity for people to know him better when they saw him on the stage with the two competitors, deirdre, very important to recognize and distinguish between someone who balanced the budget, taken a state from a deficit to a surplus and someone who has just been the first term in the United States senate. So yes, its important to have the candidates up there. All three should be up there is governor kasich is saying. Deirdre ron, as weve talked about, people say john kasich is the adult in the room. He has the most experience in government. Ted cruz continuing his attacks on john kasich. This happened last night on hannity. Were going to play a quick clip. There are only two candidates that have any plausible path to getting there, donald trump and me. Any candidate, if you dont have a clear path to winning, doesnt make sense to stay in the race. I would note, every day kasich stays in the race benefits donald trump. Deirdre how do you separate that out, ron . Heres how i look at it, deirdre. We have a thousand delegates yet to go. You need the 1237 number. Ted cruz would need to win 60 of the remaining contest plus 60 in order to get the nomination. Hes not going to do that. If you look at connecticut, pennsylvania where kasich was born and new jersey, there are a lot of States John Kasich is going to do well, pick up delegates. If the senator is suggesting theres no plausible path for someone to get the nomination and drop out. Maybe he should look in the mirror and do the same. Deirdre ron, we started to talk about this yesterday, and i know kasich was born outside of pittsburgh, you referenced that. New york, connecticut, pennsylvania, these are places that also know donald trump extremely well. Most people who do business in this area have played a golf course, have come into contact with him in some way. Are you at all nervous about that for kasich . Not at all. Theres a Trump Building down the street in washington, and i see one when i come back to new york as well. One thing to do business with somebody and another thing to have a leader, a twoterm governor who understands Foreign Policy, who understands Armed Services policy. These are dangerous times, deirdre. John kasich took ohio from being 8 billion dollars in the hole to 2 billion surplus. We need someone to tackle the 18 trillion deficit that we have to say nothing of iran, syria and other challenges. Deirdre ron christie with me there, a kasich supporter. Trump, cruz, kasich, battling it out over delegates heading towards a potential contested convention. My next guest says marco rubios 169 delegates are worth their weight in gold. Hell tell you why. If a candidate were to drop out, those delegates would become unbound, sean, you would not count that delegate as a bound delegate, so its still up to the candidate themselves to accumulate a majority of bound delegates before the convention. So dropping out wouldnt create a bounty of bound delegates, it would simply create more unbound delegates that are basically free agents on the floor. The rnc chairman talking about the process gop candidate goes through to win the nomination, if, underlined, there is a contested convention. Jimmy weinstein knows the ins and outs, the Senior Editor of the daily caller. Good to see you. Good to see you. Deirdre the gop rules at the moment reward small republicancontrolled states, right . Yeah, each state has a minimum of 16 delegates and bonus delegate states for having a republican governor or republican senator, even if they voted in the last president ial election for a republican. So once you add those bonus delegates in, you have a state like wyoming has 23 delegates and california has 172, but thats a seven times more for california when it has a population thats 70 times greater than wyoming. Some disparity us that find there like that. Deirdre okay, now as far as states that give people a choice and ones that dont, which ones cross your radar screen in that category . One example is for instance, north dakota. They elect delegates in a caucus level but only to go to the state convention. At the state convention they choose delegates that go to the Republican National convention unbound. So they can say ill vote for somebody or wont vote for somebody. If they say theyre going to vote for someone and theyre elected they can change their mind. Theyre completely unbound. Up to their discretion who theyre going to vote for. Deirdre on that note, paul ryan weighed in on that. We have a quick clip. In north dakota, they dont have committed delegates. Theyre all unbound. They go into the convention as free agents and thats the mindset that they bring into the convention. But i can assure you if you have the majority of bound delegates, youre going to be the nominee. One persons opinion cant change that. Deirdre all right, the rnc chairman there, as everybody knows. But some republicans seems dont get a voice at all. There is one instance in wyoming where they have 23 delegates. 12 of which are selected at the local county level. The thing is that theres almost 24 counties, 23 in wyoming. Two are paired together. The way they do it is one county selects the delegate. The other county thats paired together selects an alternate and reverse every election cycle. Half of those counties that dont get a vote in the process every cycle. Deirdre all right, now jamie, with the delegates, this is what everybody wants to know, the ones that have dropped out, such as rubio, carson, jeb bush. Were just going to go through the math. Rubio has 169 delegates. Dr. Ben carson 8. Jeb bush 4. Carly fiorina, Mike Huckabee and rand paul picked up 1 in iowa. What would happen . Are the delegates up for grabs . Depends where they got the delegates. If you won some in tennessee, bound to the candidate on the first two ballots. If you won in texas, you have to vote for the candidate if theyre out of the race in the first ballot. And a lot of states, and i dont know the exact number for each of the candidates, they are unbound on the first ballot if they drop out of race. Somebody has to do the math to see how many are unbound starting on the first ballot which would mean ted cruz, donald trump, john kasich will be gunning for those delegates from the beginning. Shes being treated fairly, and i think that, you know, there are people, there are critics who will claim otherwise. There are supporters who will claim otherwise, both sides are given to fantastical conspiracy theories, the debate and the treatment actually has been fair, and i think well see how this plays out. Deirdre hes very measured and professional, obviously. Hes a class act. Deirdre he is. But he did Say Something i think that is resonating, there is a process, there are checks and balances in the government. He firmly believes that no one person is more important than the overall system, and so if there is something that was in the wrongdoing category, very high likelihood something could happen. Deirdre okay, we checked in, you know him well as well, with the judge, andrew napolitano. He told me what he thinks the chances are that Hillary Clinton is indicted before november. Heres the judges comments. The chances that the fbi will ask the Justice Department to present evidence to a grand jury and seek an indictment are very, very, very high. Very high. Deirdre like 8 out of 10 . Easily, 9 out of 10. Deirdre any more color you can give us. Heres what i would say. The general because he was removed from the government will go in the direction. If there is evidence of wrongdoing, no one person is above the law. I know we get into the conspiracy theories thinking that they can block these sort of things, but the greatness of the United States is we have the separation of powers.
