The fact that you have josh talking about our candidates the president is one of the most divisive president s i think in our recent history and apparently giving us advice of some sort, its laughable we have four people that are battling right now and tomorrow is a very important night, and i think that we will see and have a better feel obviously where everything stands. Whether if obviously if donald picks up florida, then marco is out. Whether he wants to drive around in the truck or not, hes going to be out by all accounts. If governor kasich wins ohio, then that gives him a second breath. But what does he do . How does he get to the nomination . So its going to be kind of fun, and well see what happens. Deirdre all right. Well see what happens. A lot of people saying its quite likely that trump wins in florida but loses to governor amazing ohio which more or less leaves us in the same limbo land. But governor kasich called trumps events toxic. Senator rubio paused during the weekend. He responded to this question of whether or not he still promises to support the eventual nominee if its trump. And here he is with that. We have tremendous rallies. Sometimes 25, 30,000. We had one two weeks ago in alabama. 35,000 people. No disruption. No nothing. But the press is now calling this thing, oh, but theres such violence. Theres no violence. You know how many people have been hurt at our rallies . I think, like, basically none. Other than i guess maybe somebody got hit once or but theres no violence. Deirdre all right. So, senator, obviously that was not rubio. That was trump answering to this idea of. Yeah. Deirdre him and his own language perhaps inciting violence. What do you make of that . Yeah. First of all, lets talk about whos, in fact, doing the inciting, black lives matter and a whole host of groups other instigating. Donald trump, john kasich, rubio, and ted cruz should have the ability to go and have their rallies and do whatever they want without being targeted by these outside groups. So obviously instigating. The fact that it happened to Bernie Sanders too. I didnt agree with that. I thought that was abhorrent. So you have these outside groups thank they can infringe on other peoples First Amendment rights and get away with it. Its wrong. It needs to stop. Everyone needs to kind of take a deep breath and relax a little bit. And hopefully it will be over pretty soon. Deirdre so let me ask you, senator, about this tone. I mean governor kasich has actually said that trump events have become toxic. He said he would not let his own children go to a trump rally. Kasich has been really campaigning on this power of positivity. But is it going to make a difference . Certainly johns a great guy. Hes obviously working very hard. Taking that approach. It works for him because thats who he is. But the simple fact that, you know, the rallies are toxic, or hes toxic, i would chock that up to a lot of campaign rhetoric. And, by the way, if marco and ted and kasich go back on their word and not support the eventual nominee if it is trump, hes going to support him, theyre not going to support him, then guess what . You have Hillary Clinton in the position, give up all the judicial positions, the ability to have the republican senator hopefully be advising and consenting on donald trump or whomever is the nominee for the Supreme Court and the district courts. So theres at stake. And for them to say, oh, hes toxic. They would die to have the amount of people come to their rallies that are at Donald Trumps rallies. Deirdre well, thats what he said. He said all the other ones are boring and thats why nobody shows up. And he brings a tremendous amount of energy in there. And people, by the way, the reagan democrats and others who are on the sidelines for years theyre tired of the establishment and tired of the unusual and its a good thing for our democracy and our country and our party as well. Deirdre what about the cake of . There are a lot of people who is he can appeal to crossovers. Well, i think thats true. He thats why he got the endorsements from all the liberal newspapers here in New Hampshire and massachusetts. He does have a pretty good crossover. But i think donald trump does as well. I think he would make if he doesnt prevail. I think he would make a great vice president. So this is long from over. I think we have a long way to go. And youre going to see once we get through this kind of second super tuesday, youll have a situation where not only will donald trump if hes the ultimate nominee, start to pick and tell people and leak out who hes going to pick for cabinets on secretaries of defense and potential help formulate and people may calm down a little bit. Deirdre and speaking of the protest. Some say senator sanders as you just mentioned that team is part to blame. Here he is on accusations about that. I wont shock you, john, by telling you that donald trump lies a whole lot. I mean he calls them communist, thats a lie. Donald trump seems to be playing better to the nation, at least right now. Well, first of all, he may have misspoken. Hes not a communist. Hes definitely a socialist. But when you have Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders commenting on the amazing crowds that donald trump is getting and our candidates as a whole, listen, bottom line is theyre scared. Their energy level is low. All folks out there working hard. Hes really helped that state rebound and provided the leadership that that state needed to recover from the economic of the last number of years. So hes provided the leadership. The people of ohio are going to come out, and theyre going to vote for john kasich tomorrow. And john is clearly indicated that thats what he expects will happen. And if theres another alternative that happens, then john has said that he will pull out of the race. So tomorrows a very important deirdre yeah, hes made it clear. He has said if he doesnt win his home state, hes out. But lets say that he does. Then what . He would still need 110 which obviously doesnt exist, of the outstanding delegates to get to that magic number, 1237. Yeah. Thats right. John will continue moving forward. You know, theres a tough path for all the candidates to get to the magic number of over slightly over 1,200 delegates. For some, its a little bit more difficult than others. Or a lot more difficult than others. But the probability is if john wins ohio, that all bets are off in terms of how this thing plays out. And we will have a good shot at still perhaps winning on a first ballot because theres no telling what candidates will still be in. What theyll do with their delegates and those kinds of things. Or it will be a multiballot convention and those are the kind of circumstances where governor kasich can win. Deirdre so, congressman, sp work, mitt romney, the 2012 republican president ial nominee has been campaigning in ohio today. Heres a clip from an event they did together. So you look at this guy and unlike the other people running, he has a real track record. He has the kind of record that you want in washington. Well, well find that out tomorrow. I think that, you know, theres a lot of people in the midwest tremendous respect for mitt romney. They have a tremendous respect for what that family did. Especially in the automobile industry. His dad was the governor of michigan. I think that this is going to help governor kasich. But ultimately people are going to make their decision tomorrow. And not on whos endorsed or who was campaigning with him the last 24 hours. Theyre going to make their decision on john kasich. They know this man. They know his record of accomplishment in both the house and as governor. This is all going to be about how they feel about john kasich tomorrow. Deirdre do you find fault with mitt romney . And i know his dad as you just referenced michigan was governor there as you said they have very Strong Political presence as a family in the midwest. Its a long history. But the fact that hes coming out and saying vote for john kasich in ohio, im not directly endorsing him because maybe in florida im going to speak up for marco rubio. Do you find that odd . Well, everything points to a Trump Victory in florida, and i think john kasich is poised to win his home state. The question is, who wins missouri and illinois. If trump does sweep at all, i think hes even stoppable. But even if he doesnt, lets say he wins florida an splits with a couple of the candidates on the other stage. They will not have enough capacity to get to 1,237. At that point we are headed toward a contested convention. Deirdre i want to ask you about the contests convention. I want to ask you first about donald trump. As you were aware friday night he canceled a chicago rally due to safety concerns. If you blamed the protesters. You called them thugs on the treat and told us thats not how america works. Why are trump event filled with this and in other candidates events. He has so many people coming. If you have 30,000 people versus 300 people, you have a chance somebody will disrupt it. And lets face it, donald trump evokes the strongest emotion. Thats why while talking to you instead campaigning for my campaign because donald trump has the capacity to evoke the deepest, strongest emotions out of people. But there i will no appropriate way to blame donald trump for the behavior of people who come to his event with the purpose to disrupt the events. That strikes at the heart and soul of our country. What do you think would be the reaction if conservative pro trump people went to a hillary rally and tackled her . Or tried to. Would we blame hillary for that . Not on your life we wouldnt. Deirdre its a point well made. The idea of, do you regret this campaign seems to be more about e. Q. Versus i. Q. . No, i look at this process as one in which i gave it my best shot. I dont think there was a lot of opportunity for me to make my case because the media was soaking up all the time and attention with donald trump. Many of us never got our points across. There would be a frack amount of time. I cant fix that but im not bitter about it. Ultimately i look at it this way. We have an elect process in this pro in this country, not a selection. One thing that does tick me off is there are people in the Republican Party who dont want to respect the elect, they want a selection. They say if donald trump gets the nomination im not going to support them. What a baby way the look at it. If you have not convinced the people of america that you are leading properly in washington, maybe you ought to look in the mirror rather than at donald trump and say hes not the problem, we are. Thats what america is feeling. Deirdre scale of 110, how likely is a contested convention likely to happen . I think we are probably looking at a 60 chance it will be a contested convention. Unless if trump sweeps all the big state tomorrow, all four of those, then i think there is probably a 20 chance there is a contested convention.
