Maria this as guam is facing a direct threat from north korea. Todays front page to have pacific daily news reads this, 14 minutes, the time it would take for a missile to reach u. S. Territory of guam. Joining me right now Lieutenant Governor of guam, ray, Lieutenant Governor, thank you very much for joining us. The president , of course, has been focused on this all week, has the president reached out to you with a plan if tension increases . Well, good evening from guam, thank you very much for the opportunity. We are in communication with the department of defense, the joint Region Marianas and contact with military leaders, add admiral and directly no we havent spoken to the president but we appreciate the defense of our country and the department of defense and the work that they are doing. We have confidence in them. Maria china reportedly is going to stay neutral if north korea launches an attack against the United States. But if the u. S. Strikes first, china will defend kim jong uns regime. What do you want to say for the chinese, its 14 minutes and north korea continues to threaten guam . Well, guam is a resort destination, absolutely paradise, we know that we have a great country and the demon here is not the president or china in this case. Its kim jong un and the north korean regime. We have been receiving threats as many people have, many neighbors in asia have been on the receiving end of the threats but we know that the multiple layers of defense that protect our island along with the rest of the partners and our allies in the region, we have confidence in them. My son is in country in south im sorry, south korea and his wife and her child are also protected from the same levels of defense as we are here in guam with respect to china and the rip with north korea, we assume that diplomatic channels will do their jobs and we wont come to that point. Dagen Lieutenant Governor, its dagen mcdowell, but how do you compare the threats that you are hearing from the hermit kingdom, from north korea, the kim regime today to history . And at what level how much more grave are they given what weve heard even in the last week . Well, theres a lot more specificity, theres a lot more detail in this threat but weve had the threats before. I was talking again to my son, you heard it so much that we no longer Pay Attention because they are usually just rattling and thats what we are used to, we know that we have one of the strongest dedicated american, you know, technologies, the military, we know that our men and women are prepared, they are mission ready, we know that with the details that they talked about, i think the 15th is the date that we are projecting they said they are going to fire the missiles, but even with that, we have a safe and protective island, our economy is growing, the number of tourists that are coming to the island specially from south korea is booming. This is an amendment of north koreas part to ratchet things up but the diplomatic chance that President Trump talked about are working along with sanctions and not war. Kevin isnt the reason why North Koreans have chose guam is because it shows as giant key asset for us as well as we have several of the bombers that would launch a counterstrike against them from guam, isnt it because of the importance of guam that we are seeing them want to attack the island. I think they have universal threats of north korea. They talked about attacking seoul, they talked about firing missiles over japan, if we were any other place by any other name, we are a national asset, we are a patriotic community, we have a lot of military members here but we have 160,000 residents and every one of them are part of our United States family, so when we get into these geopolitical issues specially when theres tensions between countries and in this case the United States, our nation and im sorry, north korea, i think they are going to lash out at anybody, but, of course, we do have Anderson Air Force base, we have a naval station and a new marine base right now and a lot of that is built, a lot of our attention to our island and kim jong un has talked about those same bombers that are flying out of here, with respect to your question, im sure thats on his mind when hes making the threats. Lieutenant governor, its mike baker, how would you assess the mood and anxiety amongst the population in guam . People of guam know that they are protected, they know they are safe. There are threats but we have faced threats before. Theres more anxiety, i think, a little bit more than the past only because of the specificity and the details but people really believe as we all do in our country and the military assets and the technology. We know that our men and women are trained for these missions. We know that any type of attack that we will be defended, the multiple layers of protection through all of our different people who have gone for generations and improved technologies are going to make it possible for island to do exactly what we are doing. Today you go down to the tourists are on the beach, they are in the stores, you see people going to work, people feel safe, of course, theres anybody threatening in any community is going to feel some level of anxiety but i think thats really not whats driving them. We want to go to school, we want to go to work and we want to have the peace that an island is feeling right now and know that diplomacy ultimately is what we want to get to to resolve issues. Any plans to conduct missile threats . Guam police, emergency medical services, everybody, one thing too is we have a very hard infrastructure, guam many times is subject to typhoons and other earthquakes, we have construction standards, the way that our buildings, the one that im in right now has been and will be a fallout shelter and most homes around the island are very structurally sound. Theres in so far as drills, you can get access to all kind of preparedness and people, you know, we all have access to Running Water and the kind of things we need in case of a calamity but we are in communication with joint marianas and defense officials and military assets and if theres any kind of messaging, we will make sure that everybody understands whats happening if its happening. Maria anything you can do to protect yourself at this point, in anything additional . We understand social media is the way that everybody gets everything nowadays. If theres anything that needs to be done right now, its just we are hoping that diplomatic channels and sanctions and cool head in north korea will prevail and that we really dont hope and we dont believe that these four missile that is kim jong un is basically threat tong send, i think, he said 30 to 40kilometer, 19 to 25 miles of guam will be shot and that is our hope. Maria we will leave it there. Governor, good to talk to you. Thank you very much. Lieutenant governor of guam and markets, of course, have reacted, kevin kelly. Do you think that continue this is morning . Kevin i think it does. The bulk of the earning season is now over and people are trying to assess the macro risk that could affect portfolio so people are wanting to actually just go to the sidelines derisk and heading into the weekend because you never know, you dont want to carry that risk into the weekend because things can escalate and escalate quickly specially when you cant predict either what they want to do. Maria unknown. Dagen this was a market that was overvalued, some stocks wildly overvalued and a lot of complacency so people were not pricing any virtually any risk, looking at volatility index and again you see the flight to safety, the tenyear yield following to sixweek low. We are looking at the worst selloff, weekly selloff since late march of this year. This is what happens. Its a natural crisis. Kevin we are showing the volatility index, open interest in the vices is actually at an alltime high right now so getting part of that derisking is that youre seeing their most open contracts ever on the but thats an uncertainty indicater, not a fear indicater. Does anybody feel or just me that feels any whiplash between sort of the general mood that we have been discussing hereover the past few days with the crisis and what the Lieutenant Governor and his mood and demeanor . You look at the enthusiasm of businesses, Companies Moving back in, fox con made the apple iphone, the desktop, the biggest in the world. With an unbelievable plant like we have never seen before. Maria scott fitzgerald, thanks for joining us this morning. You are looking for more job protection in this bill. A lot of people are questioning what is going on in terms of the incentives and wisconsin is willing to shell out 3 billion in cash, is it worth it . We think it is. Job security issue is something many members of my caucus and members of the Wisconsin Assembly are just trying to nail down. We would like to see some benchmarks that are early on in the design of the plan where you can look two years from now, 3000 jobs, five years from now, 6000 jobs. We are looking for those benchmarks as we make this Huge Investment on behalf of wisconsin. Maria do you agree with the estimate that taxpayers wont breakeven on this until 2042 . When you see those estimates it is difficult to wrap your arms around, we are still confident that if we can generate the types of jobs fox con will bring and it creates a new sector, not only southeastern wisconsin but an impact on chicagolands, ultimately the payout is going to be incremental over a number of years. Maria what do you mean creating a new industry . What are we creating . A new tech sector that doesnt exist right now in the state of wisconsin or the midwest. Met with Governor Walker and the legislative leaders. This will change dynamics of that entire part of the state of wisconsin. Maria a very good point, Governor Walker joined me on this program and i asked if the state is paying too much on the deal because of those incentives and questions about how many jobs will be created and whether or not taxpayers are going to see the benefit. Heres what he said. 13, 130, 13,000 jobs, you are one of the best places in the state of wisconsin, we value manufacturing, where it takes longer than a typical job, typical project out there. I should add, fans in wisconsin around the globe, they know one of the biggest turn around for the packers was signing reggie white who has been an allpro for the eagles, reggie white wasnt just the biggest packers deal in the history of the team, he was one of the top three of all time in the nfl and it was worth it because reggie white wasnt just a player, he helped transform the team into the Super Bowl Winning Team they were after he came. We believe the same is true, parallel in the state of wisconsin, not just 13,000 jobs, not just 10. 5 billion payroll, or the capital investment. It is the transformational impact in the state of wisconsin. Maria what kind of transformation would you expect . We are hearing this number being thrown around, 13,000 jobs but we dont know that for sure. The gap is so huge, 13,000 jobs created. What kind of transformation are you envisioning as a result of the fox calm plan and how do you get to 13,000 . The governors analogy is correct, wisconsin is a manufacturing state and we lost 85,000 jobs in the economic downturn in 2008. Anyway and every way to try to bring manufacturing back to wisconsin. This is not the type of Light Manufacturing we are used to but we are excited what the package could look like and that is why the legislature is doing its due diligence, working through it and probably going to be some amendments to the original legislation but we are on the right track and get this done soon. Maria lawmakers are proposing 50 amendments. What do you expect in terms of this vote . Some of those amendments are focused at the local levels of governments. A lot of changes have to be made with infrastructure, roadways, Water Treatment plans have to be added to accommodate a project of this scope and size. There are a lot of things happening at the local level that are ultimately going to drive these amendments. Maria could better deal have been struck even though they are giving up a lot in cash. Could there be a better way to do this . In retrospect . The executive branch sat down the Wisconsin Economic Development corporation and they worked on this a couple months and had a pretty good deal. The legislature wants to take a second look, make sure we agree with the appropriations and tax credit and a lot of the plan that ultimately is part of what you see in any Economic Development package. We are comfortable with it. We just want to do the due diligence. Maria the voters next week, you have the votes to pass. They have an executive session, a full vote on the floor of the assembly on thursday. It makes it to the state senate. Maria you feel you have the votes . We had a very good caucus, members of the caucus. I feel very positive, we will get the votes. Maria we will be watching. Senator scott fitzgerald. How do you stop isis from transferring money through ebay . It is challenging for investigators to track this money because terrorists are using things like ebay, having to search things like online funding accounts, student loan transfers, wire fraud scams, to look for these types of transfers. Isis and other terrorist groups are not using formal banks to transfer money now. Some of their groups to work through the traditional Banking System but one thing, we are very good in Law Enforcement, we have gotten very good at assets. Fighting the Opioid Crisis, President Trump stressing his administrations commitment to getting a grip on the epidemic. Im saying officially, right now, it is an emergency, its a National Emergency. Were going to spend a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money on the Opioid Crisis. Were going to make it a National Emergency. Maria more on the effort to control this crisis coming up. And investing in america, weve got the company choosing the manufacture in the usa instead of taking the money overseas. Ubers wetting on privacy betting on privacy, how its protecting you and employees with a new messaging app. Wait until you see this. Plus, one small step for man, a giant leap for your phone. Bringing Cell Phone Service to the moon. Is the plan rock solid . Plus, make your kid cool back to school, the hottest trends for students all coming up this year. Made in america by americans. Electronic Filter Company is choosing to manufacture in upstate new york instead of moving overseas. This after the push by President Trump to make products in america. Joining us right now is the ceo, jeff scheelly, thanks so much for joining us. Good to be with you. Maria whats the plan . Six weeks ago we closed an acquisition of an existing manufacturing facility in upstate new york. Thats a region thats been, numbers that we looked at, unemployment was in, over 7 at the end of last year maria in that area. In that area. And highly qualified manufacturing skill labor, former employees from kodak and xerox that we were able to acquire. And it gives us scale. Were an emerging growth company. Were transitioning from technology into a product company, and we have to scale and grow our manufacturing accordingly. We looked overseas and decided the time was right to make the investment in the u. S. Maria and you think this is going to create a thousand jobs. What kinds of incentives are you getting to locate in upstate new york . So at the state level, the governor was extremely generous. We publicly announced 8 million in incentives over ten years from the state. The county has been extremely supportive as well. As the state assemblymen have everybody within the state are extremely upbeat maria sure. They want that factory there. They want the factory. Was there competition within the u. S. . Did you look at a variety of sites . We currently were manufacturing on the west coast. We needed more scale and we needed much shorter cycle time. Weve taken our cycle times now from at the wafer level, so were a chip maker. We take our devices, weve taken our cycle times now from 60 days down to 20 days in this factory, and thats been a big push. Earlier this week we announced that weve shipped the first filters from our factory in upstate new york into the marketplace, and were going to have additional shipments this quarter. So i think thats an important point youre bringing up, because when youre looking overseas, its just not feasible because of the times, right . Not only is it as expensive, its not as cheap as it used to be, but also because you need the quality which you can get here in the United States. Youre talking about the talent that youre able to fulfill those jobs as well as you need to deliver your products quicker and faster. Thats a very key point. So for these markets were not only engaged in the mobile wireless market, also in the base station infrastructure markets, wifi infrastructure, military communications as well as Radar Systems which is timely these days. It is extremely time to market is everything. And so having the shortest and most effective cycle time for us is extremely important. I think one key point about this factory is that the factorys an existing manufacturing facility. So its one thing to compare to, say, the foxconn where theyre talking about building a campus. We bought an existing operation which allows us to get into the market much faster with an existing skill set of labor of which is highly skilled and, you know, above the average in terms of compensation, in terms of jobs. Jeff, in terms of fiscal policy what is the one thing that you would want to see changed in washington that would help you grow [laughter] pick one because we all have a list. But just the most important there are several things that impact us particularly as an emerging growth company, but the one that really sticks to mind, health care. Weve seen in the last three years 21 rise in our Health Care Premiums over the last three years. 9. 5 this year. Thats one. We could talk about regulations, we could talk about payroll taxes. But certainly the Health Care Costs are things that are driving decisions in the company. Maria so in terms of tax reform on a federal level were looking at expectations of lower taxes. Whats your sense of the tax story in upstate new york on the state level . On the state level, we have some incentives that were provide at the county, some abatements to help get the business launched, and i think thats only wise to do. Maria how much of the president s push to get jobs back in america was part of your decision to go to upstate new york . I would say significant. Were looking for a friendlier environment. Again, its nice. Were an east coast company, and new yorks convenient from that vantage point. But what i would say is policies of and deregulation policies that lower taxes on our payroll taxes, that allows us to be more competitive in the market globally. Maria its why we discuss it every morning. Jeff, great to see you. Thanks so much. Good luck. Thank you. Maria breaking news we want to get to, President Trump is just tweeting on north korea moments ago. Serious tweet here military solutions are now fully in place. Lock and loaded should north korea act unwisely. Hopefully, kim jong un will find another path. Mike baker is with us this morning, lucky the you to talk about this. Your thoughts. I like im sort of a discipline guy, and i think discipline in messaging, consistency in messaging particularly as things start the rise and get spun up in terms of the tension. So im, i would like to think that the messaging now as we are looking at our options and getting to a really delicate point in discussions with china and others that the messaging is more constrained and is more coordinated within the white house. I dont know, i doubt that the president sits and coordinates his tweet withs. I dont think anybody actually believes that he does. So, you know, is it helpful or does it hurt the situation . Well, in reality weve got bigger issues to worry about like gaming out the various scenarios, how do we enforce the sanctions, how do we work with the chinese. Im not inclined to think those sorts of messages assist the effort. I understand why hes doing it, a lot of people appreciate it because as he said, you want to stand up and look strong, i get that. Measured talk hasnt help over the past 25 years or so, im conflicted, i guess. Maria lets not sugar coat this. Kim jong un has been very clear, he wants to strike guam in the middle of august. How should the president respond to Something Like that. Right, right, no, and maria hes been so specific. Yeah. And, well, theyve done this. They have a pattern, people should also put this in context. Which is what north koreas done. Whats different now is were at the point in the road where they can actually, essentially, do it. Theyve still got some issues related to reentry of the weaponry. But, you know, this is not unusual behavior for the north korean regime. Again, we are at that point where now we have to deal with it. President trump happens to be the president sitting in the seat when this happens. Its been building for years and years. Should the messaging come from the generals though . Should he not be doing this himself and he should let the generals as well as well, in an ideal world if you want to talk tough, if you want to talk tough, thats a great thing. And i agree we do need to talk tough. Its enough with the diplomatic talk. It hasnt worked. Maria what are we going to do, tiptoe around . It should be coordinated. Thats all my message is. It should be consistent, coordinated and speaking with one voice. When Ronald Reagan first started, the language he used in talking about the soviet union in the early 80s, right, when he first took office was criticized in the same way, that he was being too tough and too incendiary. And i think that you are getting a more level messaging from the white house, because just because there was much comparison between secretary mattis and secretary tillerson, and tillerson has said the u. S. Is not seeking regime change and wants to pressure north korea into disarmament talks. Mattis yesterday, you started hearing some of the same kind of language maria and nicki halely said the same. Nikki haley had said the same. Because mattis days prior talked about the threat, north korea will destroy its own e people. But yesterday he said the u. S. Wants a diplomatic solution. And he was in california, the diplomatic efforts were showing results, and he warned that war would be a catastrophe. So i think youre getting a more cohesive message from thed administration. Right. And that may be likely because of, perhaps, john kellys influence within there and trying to bring this together and tighten it up. You know, bottom line, we need to get the chinese authorities, put them in a head lock, get in the room together and nobody be leave until you come up with a resolution to this. Im sure thats whats going on. Theres a lot of activity that we dont need to see and people should be confident that weve got some very, very good people working this problem. But then the president tweets like this, that grabs everyones focus. Maria but the news today was in staterun media in china, china was saying in north korea strikes, they should stay neutral. And if the u. S. Strike, then they should tell the u. S. Not to strike. And there is a very large Cottage Industry that parses everything that the chinese media, state media says. And thats a very Important Message that comes out from them. You know, there are countless analysts right now within the government who are trying to determine exactly what that message means and who its coming from within the chinese leadership. Maria still ahead, cracking down on the Opioid Crisis. President trump has pledged to end the epidemic. The new plan in place next. And then dialing up a little more privacy, how ubers helping their passengers protect their personal information, they say. Well take a look. microphone feedback listen up, Heart Disease. Optum. How well gets done. ch baby crying eat fly me to the moon and let me play jet engine white noise airline ding bell mnemonic maria welcome back. President trump is making the countrys Opioid Epidemic a top priority. Cheryl casone with the story now and headlines. President trump announcing plans for the declaration yesterday. The Opioid Crisis is an emergency, and im saying officially, right now, it is an emergency. Its a National Emergency. Were going to spend a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money on the Opioid Crisis. Were going to make it a National Emergency. Well, a Drug Commission led by new Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently called on trump to declare a National Emergency in order to step up efforts to fight drug abuse. Recommendations presented to the president included improved prescription tracking and increased treatment and education on the issue of substance abuse. The commission saying that American Consumers consuming, excuse me, more opioids than residents of any other country right now. Well, uber rolling out a new inapp chat feature. Texas congressman and house ways and Means Committee chairman kevin brady is here in the studio, Newt Gingrich is here, and joy vila will join us. Stuart varney will weigh in on all of the above, so do stay with us. Breaking news, President Trump tweeting from bedminster, new jersey, this morning on north korea. Heres what he said just a few moments ago. Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded should north korea act unwisely. Hopefully, kim jong un will find another path. Adam shapiro is in bedminster right now with the very latest. Good morning to you. Reporter and good morning to you, more ya. This is maria. This is going to be a busy day for President Trump, part of his working vacation. As you said, that tweet this morning is already how he started off in the latest efforts either to ramp up or continue the crisis and con confrontation with north korea which is not yet backing down. The one thing though that you want to Pay Attention to is how the people on guam, which the North Koreans have said they would launch missiles perhaps to test around the island, not necessarily attack, how the people on guam would react. And you had on your show the Lieutenant Governor who had this to say weve faced these threats before. Theres more ang sity, i think d anxiety, i think, only because of the specificity and the details. Were hoping that diplomatic channels and sanctions and cooler heads in north korea will prevail. Reporter but, of course, the North Koreans yesterday responding to President Trumps comment about fire and fury, calling that nonsense. The president this morning with tweet9 that you realize, maria, so this is an issue that does continue to escalate. The one thing that were going to be watching today is that nikki haley is going to be meeting with the president at around 5 00, but the president yesterday said his rhetoric perhaps isnt even tough enough. Heres the president. He does something in guam, it will be an event the likes of which nobodys seen before, what will happen in north korea. Reporter so again, nikki haley will be here, the u. N. Ambassador from the United States will be here at 5 p. M. Meeting with the president on the latest with this escalating situation with north korea. Maria . Maria nikki haley has done a great job in terms of getting other countries together with that sanctions bill last week like china and russia. Adam, thank you. Adam shapiro along with the president in bedminster. Joining us right now is former speaker of the house, fox news contributor, Newt Gingrich is here. Speaker gingrich, its good to see you. Thanks very much for joining us on an important morning with this news. Your reaction and the president s response to north korea. Well, i think overall the president has handled north korea very, very effectively. I think he has all of his military advisers lined up. Theyre bringing pressure to bear. Nikki haley did pull off an extraordinary achievement last week in getting both the russians and the chinese to vote for a very tough Security Council resolution. Its clear the administrations decided this is the crisis moment, they have to get the North Koreans to back down. Theyre going to bring more and more pressure to bear. And i think its a serious moment. I think all of us should be aware this is a very, very dangerous time, and the North Koreans are very unpredictable. So i think the president s taking the right steps, and i think his warning to the North Koreans are correct. They need to understand this is not a game, this is not barack obama, this is not bill clinton. This is a president who, in the Ronald Reagan tradition, will, in fact, be very tough to deal with. Maria what should we expect when he says things like, look, if they do this, theyre going to see a response that the world has never seen before. What should we think of that . Whats the response . Well, i think, first of all, general mattis is very, very smart, general kellys very smart, general mcmasters very smart. This is a very, very good National Security team. We have a lot of assets, many of which we dont talk about. We have a capacity, i think, to do a number of things to north korea that we dont want to cross that line if we can avoid it, but i suspect that we could make them pay a very high price in a nonnuclear way using a variety of things from cyber war fair to Electronic Warfare to highly precise conventional munitions that might be pretty surprising. I always thought when we dropped the very, very large bomb in afghanistan that was in part a demonstration for both the iranians and the North Koreans that we have weapons that are conventional but are enormous and that were prepared to use them to take out missile sites and Research Facilities if were forced to do so. Good morning, speaker gingrich, its mike baker. Is the administration not doing something that you would like to see them do or would advise them to be doing at this moment . Well, i think the biggest thing to recognize is that when you cross into Nuclear Weapons, were in a different league. I was on the hartrudman commission which reported back in march of 2001 and warned that a weapon of maas destruction going off mass destruction going off in an American City probably from a terrorist group was the greatest single threat we faced. And we called for a department of homeland security. But we wanted a much more robust department capable of dealing with three Nuclear Events in the same day. People have not thought for many years what a Nuclear Event in a city would be like, how desperately we would need help, how inadequate our current preparation are. I wish the administration would take more seriously laying out what its going to take for us to truly be able to protect americans if either north korea or iran were to decide to use just one weapon. This is not people who say, oh, only one or two or three. One Nuclear Weapon changes the world. And we have got to be prepared, i think, to make to minimize american casualties and minimize the number of americans who would be severely wounded in that kind of an event. Speaker, its kevin kelly. Weve seen a lot of criticism come out of previous administrations from bush, clinton, bush, obama that they didnt do enough. Is there you spent time in the Leadership Back in the 90s s. There anything that could have been done differently, and is it square to place blame on fair to place blame on previous administrations . Yeah. I think thenchairman Bob Livingston of the Appropriations Committee was very vivid and very accurate in his attack on the clinton policies. Clinton accepted a terrible deal with no enforcement, it allowed the North Koreans to continue to build their weapons systems. We know they were collaborating with the syrians and with the iranians. They would show film on north Korea Television of iranian delegations coming to the north korean be Ballistic Missile facilities, and the degree to which theyve been swapping knowledge, potentially even swapping weapons is very, very real. The ideal moment to have acted was around 1994, 1995 when we could have relatively safely taken out his Nuclear Facilities because at that time they had no capacity to deal with us. The problem youve got, and this is not in any way to condemn bill clinton, because i think this is a very hard problem. The problem you have is they have always had an enormous number, above 100,000, artillery pieces and missiles aimed at the city of seoul. Seoul is 25 million people. It is physically very close to the 38th parallel. So youve always faced a danger. If we really act aggressively, that their Immediate Reaction is to take on the capital of south korea. This is why the south koreans are very cautious about pushing north korea very hard. Maria yeah. Now were at an intersection where we have to control them, and we cannot allow them to get Nuclear Weapons and Ballistic Missiles. I think this is a very dangerous period. Maria it sure is. It certainly feels that way, mr. Speaker. And when you come back home, want to talk about this rift between the president and Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell. That seems to be getting worse over health care and tax reform. Heres what the commander in chief said yesterday. Got to get your reaction. Mitch, get to work and lets get it done. Ill tell you what, if he doesnt get repeal and replace done and if he doesnt get taxes done, meaning cuts and reform, and if he doesnt get a very easy one to get done, infrastructure, if he doesnt get that done, then you can ask me that question. Maria and, of course, speaker, that was his answer to a question about do you want to see Mitch Mcconnell step down. How can mcconnell tackle the agenda . Because its the senate thats the problem, isnt it . No, its not the senate thats the problem. Maria no . No, its the whole problem thats the problem. Its trying to solve onefifth of the American Economy, life and death in one gigantic bill, exactly what we said obama did wrong, and recognizing its really, really hard to do. But notice as much as i admire the president and as much as i think hes handling north korea well, i think hes handling the senate about equally badly. The fact is, first of all, its not look at the language he uses. Its not a he us kind of situation. The president is on the field. You know . Hes not an owner sitting up in the box. Hes one of the players. So there were 18 democrats, im sorry, there were 16 democrats who voted no for every republican who voted no. 49 of the republicans voted yes out of 5 2k. You had all 52. You had all of the conservatives, and the president and everybody else wants to fire away at the Senate Republicans giving the ten democrats who are in trump states, i mean, when you have a senator whos in a state that was 68 for trump and that senator voted no, itd be nice for the president to put most of his fire on the democrats and try to move them. You only have to move three out of the ten or two out of the ten can and you win. So i disagree with this entire strategy. If it is a strategy. Hes not going to get anywhere. Mitch mcconnells going to be the republican leader of the senate, period, end of story maria but isnt that the senators know theyre here for six year, they may very well outlive the president in terms of being in washington, so, i mean, theyre not support toking him though, speaker, theyre not supporting what was that john mccain move all about . Maria, wait a second. 49 of the 52 senators voted yes. Now, that by any standard i know of, thats a lot, okay . So we talk about the Senate Republicans. Well, 49 of them did the right thing. Maria right. All of the Democratic Senators voted no. Yet what do we do . We pick a fight maria yeah. I see what youre saying. With the guy who led the 49 to the yes and we ignore the 48 who are getting a free pass here. If i were a senate democrat, id love this fight. It allows them no responsibility maria thats right. To pay no cost, to be able to vote no regularly. And frankly, the president would do well to read Mitch Mcconnells book, the long game. Hes a very smart man. Hes going to find other ways to get done. My guess is with Lamar Alexanders leadership youre going to see a series of bills, theyre going to start taking apart obamacare. Maria yep. But why would the president of the United States want to pick a fight with his own leader marc marc thats a good point. I just hope that the democrats participate in governing, thats all im saying. Mr. Speaker, great to see you. Thatd be a good deal. Maria thank you so much. Well be right back. O ve type 2 diabetes, right . Yes. So let me ask you this. How does diabetes affect your heart . It doesnt, does it . Actually, it does. Type 2 diabetes can make you twice as likely to die from a cardiovascular event, like a heart attack or stroke. And with Heart Disease, your risk is even higher. You didnt know that. No. Yeah. But, wait, theres good news for adults who have type 2 diabetes and Heart Disease. President donald trump doubling down on his north korea fire and fury comments yesterday. Were watching markets come off of the lows of the morning, dow down just about 8 points, down from the lows of earlier in this session. Nicole petallides on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange with details. Nicole, good morning to you. Good morning, maria. It is refreshing to see markets coming up off the lows of the morning u the Dow Jones Industrial average down about 8 points after 275 points lost in the last three days. Were taking a look at the chart which really started with the fire and fury comments two days ago, and that really set the markets tone and the tensions with north korean have now with north korea have set us up for the major averages down over 1 for the week, the dow on pace for the biggest weekly loss since march and the s p and nasdaq of 2017. It was on pretty average volume, so the question remains to we need heavy volume to really see a big selloff and then turn to gains, that is a question that could be posed to many of your market guests. Moving on, looking at some of the movers here, snap and jcpenney. Snap is down about 12 , slowing revenue, user growth has been slowing as well. I should use the phrase disappearing, because this is a disappearing messaging app, and quarter over quarter this quarter adding 7. 3 million versus 21 million last quarter. By the way, for the first half of the year, Instagram Stories had 100 million new users, that really gives you bear spective. And jcpenney falls into what we saw from dillards and macys, down 25 . And its the same story there, just a wider margin taking a hit to the retailers after a great earnings season really came in pretty weak week. Back to you. Maria sure did. Nicole, thank you. Big movers this morning on the downside, ken. But were waiting on the broader averages which seem to be recovering a bit. Yeah, because if you look at the underpinnings of the markets, earnings have done very well. The s p 500, 51 of it is technology, health care and financials. They have tailwinds behind them, theyre doing well domestically and also abroad, so you see 47 of their earnings are coming from overseas. Chinas doing better as well as europe. The underpinnings of the market is doing well. This is a buying opportunity. You can see it now in the futures. Yesterday there was a precipitous sell going into the close because people are going on vacation, they didnt want to hold positions in the weekend. I think investors should take advantage of that. This is a market increasingly concerned not necessarily about north korea, but the fact that the fiscal agenda is gravely at risk down in washington. Maria yeah. Its coordinated with the president calling out Mitch Mcconnell, Mitch Mcconnell taking a shot at President Trump. Its not just the tax reform. We know health care is on the back burner, but tax reform also in question. I know youre going to talk to congressman kevin brady about that coming up, but theyve got the debt ceiling to deal with, keeping the government open, creating a new budget just to begin work on tax reform. And thats got to happen just next month. Maria yeah. And you see that in the survey from the wall street journal. 22 chance of the government shutting down, is what 22 of economists think the government could shut down but thats easing monetary policy, we havent gotten fiscal reforms that could move the needle, so were having cpi data come out soon maria four minutes. Yeah. Maria we do have, though, some confidence still on wall street. Im hearing from one of my sources at a Major Trading desk and he says, look, youve got to watch the leadership sectors unwind. The growth sectors are correcting but not crashing. He goes on to say theres rotation into defensive names in the short term, but he believes earnings, tax reform and other positive market actions on the agenda will outweigh the geopolitical worries. This is in step with what were seeing this morning, but well watch that. Obviously, thats a major risk for this market. When we come back, the surprising silent investors in some of the summers biggest hit movies like wonder woman. Plus, President Trump turns up the heat on mihm mcconnell Mitch Mcconnell. Ill talk with ken brady about that feud and how it impacts the agenda and when Congress Comes back into session. Back in a minute. Potsch you each drive a ford pickup, right . in unison russ, leland, gary yes. Gary i have a ford f150. Michael ive always been a ford guy. Potsch then i have a real treat for you today. Locked and loaded, President Trump tweeting military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should north korea act unwisely. Hopefully, kim jong un will find another path. That, a tweet coming from the president this morning. The escalating tensions taking a toll on Global Markets. In asia, stocks slide. In europe morning declines across the board. Meanwhile m the u. S. We saw a little bit of a rally in the last 20 minutes. Were looking at a down day, but the markets are off, they were level. Having said that, a loser today would be the fourth in a row for the stock market. Focusing on tax reform, President Trump calling on lawmakers to get things done as the white house pushes forward with his agenda. Now i want tax reform and tax cuts. Were going to reduce taxes for the people. We pay more tax than anybody in the world, and were going to reduce taxes. So i say tax cuts, tax reform, and i want a very big infrastructure bill. Maria we are breaking down the timeline for tax reform with house ways and Means Committee chairman kevin brady, hes up next. Major airlines on problems this morning in london, multiple people treated for smoke inhalation after a fire forced commuters to evacuate the oxford circuit station in london. Authorities say the fire is not being treated as suspicious. Plus, details on amazons new plans to get into the concert business. And forget candidates, big political players reportedly betting their money on hollywood. Why they are trading in senate seats for the silver screen. A new report says lawmakers will release a tax reform framework next month, plus the looming debt ceiling deadline could put tax reform on the sidelines, say some. Last week mark meadows issued a warning about tax reform and getting it done. Listen to this. If we do not have a bill that were actually debating in september who, hopefully, gets a vote by october, it will not get to the prime ministers desk by to the president s desk by thanksgiving. If it doesnt get there by then, it isnt going to happen. Maria chairman kevin brady, it is good to see you. Interesting comments with mark meadows with so few days on the legislative calendar left. Is this timeline realistic . Could you get something on the president s desk by thanksgiving . Our focus is on 2017, thats the timetable were orphan on. Look, the announcement we made last month together on world on bold principle, urgency of delivering it this year, we remain on that timetable. So we are working even though were not all in washington right now, the president , his team, the house and senate on delivering a major bill here in september moving the process forward. Maria youve been work hard on this, talking to groups, trying to get the message out that this is front and center. We know what just happened with health care. How can you give viewers or businesses confidence that, in fact, you will get this done, there is more Common Ground here after debacle we just saw well, there is, but almost everything is different with tax reform. You did have a country divided on health care, but nobody defends the status quo of this horrible tax code. Secondly, youve got the president , the white house or the house and senate moving toward a unified tax reform plan, being on the page in a bold way. You have support throughout the country. Were seeing in august as law make es are home make lawmakers are home making the case that there are a lot of job creators and Small Businesses out there backing our effort. So you see a whole different timetable, process and work than you did in health care. Maria i want to ask you what youre doing next week because i know you have a big event at the reagan library, but let me ask you first. Fox business has learned the white house is looking to work with the blue dog democrats. Do you expect hem to participate in governing . Yeah. So i have, and weve had these discussions really for over the last six months or so with centrist democrats. Look, in their communities theyre seeing the same companies leave the u. S. As we are, the same young people who cant find good paying jobs as we are, and they bring good ideas to the table. Im hopeful we can find Common Ground with democrats on tax reform, but were moving forward because theres an urgency to get this done in 2017. Maria you know, we were just talking with Newt Gingrich, and he really made an important point. I was complaining about the senate, and he basically said, maria, its not the senates fault. The president should not be attacking people like Mitch Mcconnell, he should be attacking the democrats. But, chairman brady, President Trump slammed Mitch Mcconnell over obamacare, even alluding he could retire. Listen to this. Mitch, get to work and lets get it done. If he doesnt get repeal and replace done and if he doesnt get taxes done, meaning cuts and reform, and if he doesnt get a very easy one to get done, infrastructure, if he doesnt get them done, then you can ask me that question. Maria and, of course, that question hes answering, a reporter question, should Mitch Mcconnell retire. We are all on the same team here. Unless were working to the closely as we are on tax reform, were not going to deliver on our promises, especially on issues like tax reform. I will tell you our small business, our local businesses, our families are counting on not just tax relief, but a simplification of the way washington taxes and theres an urgency and i think a hunger for tax reform. So we do have a lot of work stood, but i like the to do, but i like the way were working together on this. Maria you are going to the reagan ranch next week. Tell us what youre doing on wednesday. Wednesday, the 16th, its a historic location, president reagans ranch, but on that same day 31 years ago, house and Senate Conferees reached an agreement to Senate President reagan his tax reform. It was gamechanging and kicked off almost 20 years and 37 million new jobs because of that tax reform. Its time to make the case directly to the the American People why nows the time for us to deliver on those principles again. Maria yeah. And its great youre doing it at this Historic Place to make a big deal about it. How much of this infighting with the president lashing out and Mitch Mcconnell saying, look, weve got a new president , and hes not he hasnt been in this job before, and hes got excessive expectations, is that getting in the way of ding things done . Well, certainly not on tax reform. Maria okay. Again, i really like both pace and the substance of our discussions in these Tax Working Group that we have with the president and the senate as well. We know these are big issues. There is a lot more work to be done but, again, havent seen anything yet, maria, that knocks us off our timetable for delivering this year. Marc more so lets go through some of the big events because youve got the debt ceiling that is expected to be raised at the end of september. Yeah. Maria what are the steps to actually get a bill on the president s desk . Thank you for asking that, because there really is a runway here, and a key part is passing next years budget that not just balances the budget over time, but gives us the vehicle for delivering tax reform, and the budget is the process that allows the senate to go around the obstructionism of the democrats and deliver it to thes desk. So this budget to the president s desk. This budget is unlike any ive voted on in my life, because this is the tax reform budget. Critical we get it done. Maria so youll raise the debt ceiling in september, the budget will be voted on somewhere in that timetable as well. Maria so you see that end of happening end of september, october, and then what goes on there in order to get youll have hearings or markups or what . Yeah. So we will deliver a tax reform bill in september. The ways and Means Committee will begin it and begin the process through the house. We want to make sure we give the Senate Plenty of time for work as well. Were going to need the president , House Republicans, Senate Republicans and democrats who can bring their best ideas to the table, you know . Those elements can help us achieve this. Maria can you communicate to the public and to the left that lowering taxes for everybody is the goal to move the needle on Economic Growth and youre not just lowering taxes for the rich . I mean, once again thats sort of the rhetoric out there. Yeah, i know this is. You know, this is all about growing jobs and growing paychecks. Its all about simplifying the code and, frankly, its fighting for middle class families rather than Washington Special interests that have always held the tax code hostage. One of the points well make next week is president reagan would not recognize the tax code we have today, so it is more than time to make these changes. Maria how many pages is it . 75 75,000. Maria how crazy is a tax code thats 70,000 pages . Is that all the special interest deductions . Whats 70,000 pages . It is all that and more. Its a huge drag on our economy. And really, look, you want to talk about equality, consider a postcardstyle system where everyone in america knows what each others deductions are because you have exactly the same ones. Theres a fairness, a simplicity, theres a growth to all of this, and thats what were going maria and youve talked about collapsing the number of brackets from seven to three. Are we talking about individual rates around 1012 , 25 and then 33 or 35 . Whats your vision for individual rates . Thats the ballpark that both President Trumps campaign, the House Republican blueprint and discussions that the president laid out a few months ago, theyre all in that ballpark. We think, you know, one, the tax code, lets flatten it out, you know . When president reagan began, there were 15 tax brackets, today theres now seven. Lets lower the rates at every level. Lets protect more of the first dollars families earn, really important to young people, middle class families, retirees as well and reward maria youre looking to get rid of the estate tax. I am. Maria get rid of the let me ask you about the corporate rate because i know the president is at 15 . The house is a little higher than that. Do you need to offset that lost revenue of the board e adjustment tax . That is a challenge because theres a trillion dollars that helped us lower rates for every job creator in america. The working group is focused on how we can drive those rates down, how we can do even more incentives more Business Investment to unlock productivity in america which we know has been struggling for a long, long time. And so all those elements are part of it. Plus, you know, our are reforms separately where we bust up the irs, redesign that agency from top to bottom which will move a different bill but a critical part of tax reform. Maria im glad you mentioned this because theres an oped in the journal today by Kimberly Strassel called trumps irs swamp. Conservatives are really upset that John Koskinen still has a job at the irs after they targeted conservatives in the tea party. Are you going to get rid of this guy . Ive made the case that he needs to step down or be fired. Truth of the matter is we cant really redesign or, frankly, do the tax reform we want while he is still in office there. Frankly, the irs could be a partner in what were trying to do, but they have no credibility on capitol hill, and its more than time for him to go. Maria and you want this to be simpler, right . Take out the red tape and the bureaucracy that is the irs. Yeah. If you have a simpler and fairer tax code, it demands a simpler and fairer tax collector. Bust up the irs as it is, redesign it into a much Smaller Agency focused on Customer Service. For businesses with accurate information, for families and the equivalent of a Small Claims Court to help people who have these tax disputes and cant spend years and thousands of dollars to resolve it. Theres a better way to do this. Maria this is such an important point, i think thats going to be a big deal. In terms of the deductions and the debates going on, we know theres going to be more debates in the senate whats the Biggest Issue that youre debating right mow . So probably right nows it is simply about how do we get the greatest growth for the greatest number of years from permanent, balanced tax reform is a way that families and businesses can count on maria i mean, explain expensing, right . Because were talking about 34 growth but not any additional revenue. How do you get to that growth . So youve got twin towers of growth. Number one, lower rates so businesses can invest. Weve got to unlock all of that. But being able to write off that Business Investment in buildings equipment, software and technology doesnt just drive middle class jobs and main street jobs, it drives american productivity. Thats one of the missing ingredients in this very sluggish recovery. Incredibly progrowth. And also generates the revenues to allow us to lower the rate some more. So those two issues, low rates for businesses of every size and strong expensing numbers, thats where we get the jobs. I dont know how the markets going to take this foray into yet another industry, but its a sign of the time, isnt it . Maria it really is. Stuart here they come, watch out. Because they take everything before them. Maria can they keep doing this . I have another little tidbit, because Martin Sorrell was your guest x in terms of the advertising inventory that amazon could roll out making itself a competitor to facebook and google. Maria welcome back. President trump is doubling down on his stern warning the north korea, and hollywood is lashing out at the commander in chiefs warning. Actor john cusack, for example, tweeted this Approval Rating at record low, this is predictable authoritarian bawfer. Apocalyptic tone shows just how desperate and unhinged he is. Rosie to odonnell says this fire and fury, god help us. And cher, who said she was going to leave the planet if he was elect, she writes this trump causes fear around the world, hashtag red line. Lets bring in singer and song writer joy vila, great to have you on the program hi, maria. Maria you showed such support for President Trump by wearing a make America Great again dress to the grammys and, of course, you received pushback from hollywood. What to do you make of all these tweets from celebrities . Its more fear monger, its more the end of the world, oh, my gosh, were going up in flames, and we never hear from the celebrities who are protrump. Its only the ones that are anti maria they get bullied by the antis. They could walk on water and they would say trump cant swim. [laughter] maria theres true theres theres its true. I think its very much in his characteristic to be strong and back up america. And truly, if north korea is a big threat, which it does sound like it is a threat, he needs to say, no, knock it off, thats not going to happen. You not going to bully us, and if you do try to attack us, were going to attack you first. Hes being a good president a strong leader. Maria what are we supposed to do, dance around this, dagen . Yeah. And the comments and, again, i find it kind of hilarious that people are upset about his rhetoric and the way that he speaks right. When they are even more alarmist than he is exactly. People on twitter. If you listened to him yesterday in those comments he made when he was questioned about everything from Paul Manafort to north korea, you want to talk about incredibly measured tone. The comments he made about Paul Manafort, he was very reserved, very careful in his choice, in his choice of language. And thats when he doesnt get credit. No how he addresses really critical issues. Absolutely. They say he only tweets about negative things, but he tweets a lot of positive as well, they just choose not to focus on it. Maria thats right. I think it takes an admirable level of courage for somebody in the Entertainment Industry to be vocal. I was out in los angeles not too long ago, i was in a department store, and someone came up behind me who was in the film industry, tapped me on the shoulder and said ive seen you on fox. He was whispering, and i said, why are you whispering . [laughter] he said, because we have to keep it down. Absolutely. Its a secret hi, how you doing, hey, were on the same team. It has to be like that. Its very oppressive in that atmosphere. Maria and this from the group that says they want diversity and free speech. Yeah. Come one, come all unless youre conservative. Maria right. Your speech is free and protected as long as you happen to agree with what i think. Exactly. Maria exactly. Do you think its changing at all . Do you sense a larger or a growing community or differing viewpoints . I do. I see les always been conservatives theres always been keys in media, they just havent been focused on. One of the casting directors got back to me and said im a trump supporter, im a conservative, he sent me a personal email, its great to meet you. Were going to have cough fee. Hes here in coffee, hes here in new york city. We are under the radar. Maria how about this other hollywood news . Warner brothers wonder woman crossed the 400 billion mark this week, the Hollywood Reporter reporting that well known gop backers charles and david koch invested in this movie as well as dunkirk and Steven Spielbergs upcoming ready player one. Your thoughts on these gopers investing in hollywood films. I think its fantastic, especially because theyre investing in awesome films, the good guys were good guys, the bad guys were bad guys and it was a very good movie film, not just something thats trying to teach us some sort of lesson, only what they want you to think. If theyre going to the invest this good movies like this, we could actually have a conservative voice. Maria you dont usually see that kind of partnership. Theyll lambaste you in public, those hollywood liberals, but they sure will take your money. Thats right. [laughter] a year ago i wouldnt have had a clue what swj meant. [laughter] what does that mean . Social Justice Warrior where everything is an aggression, everything is a micro your hand gestures are myoaggression. [laughter] maria good stuff. He has disrespected our country grateful and said things that are horrific. He got away with it for a long time between him and his family. Its a whole new ball game. And hes not going to be saying those things and hes certainly not going to
