Contested convention usually means that one of the state delegations is contested the process of selecting them at the state Convention May have had errors and National Convention discussing them, brokered convention, thats when one of the candidates does not have enough delegates to control and theres delegates from other contenders to establish the rules and to pick the nominee. Maria so how do you think this plays out . I think theres going to be a lot of bargaining going on. When you see at fox news and the numbers in the new york times, they say these delegates are pledged to rubio or to cruz or to trump, theyre not really necessarily trump delegates, they are bound by the respective state laws of the party to vote for him on the first ballot. The only delegate that is are truly his are the ones he can pick up the telephone and call them and he knows their kids names and dogs names. Donald trump has been brilliant at planning but terrible at ground game. Mitt romney probably has more delegates than donald trump. Dagen so if trump goes into hes not in 1237, he goes at the convention, even delegates that were awarded to him, so to speak in victories in certain states, they dont necessarily have to vote for him after the first ballot, that they could switch . If they dont like him or feel love for him, they with switch to somebody else . Thats likely, he hasnt had a ground game, he still can. He can do it in california and texas. Texas has decided but the delegates havent been chosen. But to give you an example a week ago in louisiana. Even though trump carried it by 32 , the delegates most of them are the same people that were selected four years before. They were recruited by mitt romney. Not by donald trump. Hes done a poor job at getting his people into those slots. That means that the establishment is going to take control of the rules committee and they are going to bargain, they are going to say we want things, we want to know the person youll nominate to the Federal Reserve, we want to know that some of the companies that sponsor the Republican Party will be fast track to corporate welfare, direct money from the federal government. A lot of deals that will be made if donald trump does not have a commanding control of his own delegation. What are the risks for the party of that scenario in the age of tv and mass media . We talked about the brokered conventions in the past, they were in the closed door before open primaries, this sounds like a very ugly scenario that hurts the party no matter what comes out particularly donald trump and the establishment. Yes, and no. Remains to be seen, we are in unchartered waters here. Understand the corporations that support the Democrat Party and the Republican Party also support the Division Network and the newspapers so its kind of like sausage, do you really want to see it being made or throw it with the tomato. A lot of things will be seen that have not been seen. If the Mainstream Media chooses to turn a blind eye, i can tell you a lot of people are panicked about donald trump. They see him as a modern day theodore roosevelt. He calls them stupid because they dont open it to the lowest bidder. Theres a reason it doesnt go to the lowest bidder. Maria your take on a contested convention and we want to talk about marco rubios delegates. Where do they go . The easy way is not contested, brokered, multiballot contest, we havent had a multiballot contest as dagen pointed out since 1948, all trends and all Election Results today still suggest that donald trump will have the votes or just short of the votes needed and no convention is going to deny him the nomination if he comes up 50 votes short in delegates. Hes be the nominee and thats where we are ultimately headed. Now, what if if we do have a multiballot convention . You have to know the rules. Know the rules and use them better than everyone else. Trump just last week announced a very experienced team of delegate gathers. Ted cruz has a very smart delegate recruitment event. That process is just starting now. States are just decide whog the men and women who who are going to do convention to be delegates and that fight is going on and doug referenced it. This is a lot of the oneonone stuff. Trump is making calls to individuals. I do think its ironic that northern marianas that gave trump the eighth state to win majorities. It wasnt one of the 50 states to make that rule. You have to know the rules going into the multiballot contests but we talk about every election cycle. This is the year that we are going to have a multiballot convention. Dagen i dont remember in my lifetime since i started voting talking like this. I remember what happened in 76 with gerald ford, doug. Do you think this goes the way of gerald ford over Ronald Reagan where its one ballot and thats it . I tend to think that itll be decided probably before the convention starts. So much is at stake and i track the rubio votes, 50 for rubio on the first ballot by the laws of the state party and 50 are already assigned to other candidates because of the state gop rules in those con vingses. They want to constrain spending, but none of them have come up with a comprehensive plan to get that as a percentage of our economy down. If you look at the two Democratic Candidates come if they want to add on new taxes on top of what we are to have whether it be surcharges, higher tax rates. They want to expand government and spend more for various purposes. They havent come up with a plan to get us a percentage of the economy down. But hope what well end up happening is we will have more as we get to the general election. The person who has the most record on this is governor kasich. At the same point in time come he hasnt provided as much detail as some of the other candidates, but it does have a tracker at the federal level of being able to come to grips with these issues. Maria retyped about entitlements been the main problem. Tell us what you think the solution is. The fact that you cant get that as a percentage of the economy to reasonable sustainable level unless you do three things. You got to have comprehensive tax reform that make it simpler, fairer or edited, increased growth in revenues. Secondly, you have to reform social Insurance Programs to make them solving, sustainable, secured for current and future generations. That means Social Security and medicare. The way you go about it matters a great deal. These are important programs we cannot trade. Thirdly, you have to be able to reprioritize defense spending and reduce the rate of growth in Discretionary Spending over time. You got to do all three of those things. If you dont, you will solve the problem and anybody who tells you they will doesnt know what to talk about. You just answered the question is what you need to do. You need to take half of the republican side which is reduce spending, have the democrat side which at the least his whole taxes where they are. Probably through tax reform so you get revenue in a different way. You need to take that medicine. Nobody on either side wants to say look, not only are we not going to give you free college but we also are going to slash taxes. Maria the argument republicans make and i wonder how you look at this is one to start being Economic Growth, you know, the tax plans are expensive if youre cutting corporate taxes that Economic Growth will allow you to pay for it partly. I know that doesnt pay for it all. Its great if it happens that you build your program around that is perhaps too optimistic in some way. Its a way of saying what it is there without taking the medicine ahead of time. Doesnt mean i not happen and if you did the right is to get better growth. As weve been seeing for some time where the Global Economy now. What happened in china, europe and elsewhere affects our growth. If you look at, for instance, japan and car trading deficit or china where we have hundreds of billions of dollars of trade deficits, so our entire trade policy needs to be retooled and one major change we have to make is to stop foreign currency cheating, devaluation of foreign currencies to put American Companies out of business, thats a big difference in the race. Theyre terrified and theyre in a box. If they do exclude trump theyre in big trouble. But if they put him in, theyre in big trouble. This is a mess, but its a consequence of a mess in this country that dont have easy solutions and so far nobody has proposed solutions to the mess the country is in. Maria what about the probability of a contested convention, do you expect that to take place . Yeah, i think the odds are in favor of that, but its hard to say. I think the republicans will do Everything Possible in the last primaries to try to prevent trump from capitalizing on this and then theyll go to the convention, but theres already threats out there, i mean, trumps not going to go away easy. I guess i missed it, i guess ill go back to building buildings. He likes troubles and doesnt mind threatening people. So its a mess, but the biggest mess is for the Republican Party and i guess if youre in this business to preserve the Republican Party you should be worried. But some people worried like myself, what he is going to happen to the country, to our policy, whats going to happen to our economy . Are we ever going to change our Foreign Policy and blunder more and more mistakes and our personal liberties at home. Maria when you look a the it in terms of the establishment and this pushback. Do you think this is also looking like its smacking voters in the face . I mean, if 35 of republicans are voting for donald trump, and, but youve got the smartest guys in the room saying, well, you know, this shouldnt be the candidate. Does it looks like youre going against the will of the people . In many ways. Of course, 65 of the republicans, if only 35 are supporting trump, 6 of 5 are saying not. So they might justify, but no, i think it is a slap in the face because they changed the rules. But governments changed the rules all the time and Political Parties do it all the time. Theyre very, very complex and right now theyre very willing to, theyve done it in the past, but theres more exposure this time which is very good. If they mess around and change the rules and the trump s did ters know this, of more harm to themselves than good. So, theyre really in a bind, but, no, i think theyre going to work very, very hard to have a contested convention, but theyre not going to come out of this, you know, with very many benefits for the Republican Party. Maria if trump is the nominee, will you support him . No, i couldnt do that because what does it mean. Libertarian what does it mean, youre giving the election to Hillary Clinton then . Well, you know on Foreign Policy, i dont think there would be that much difference. Shes very, very aggressive, the neocons would be happy with her, shes the one that orchestrates a lot of the militancy of the democratic party. She was much more neoconnish than obama, obama had the decency to back off. I think the diehard neocon conservatives i dont see a big difference between any of the democrats or republicans because they all endorse foreign interventionism, the Monetary System that we have and they dont challenge deficits. We who believe in personal libty and libertarianism, we dont have a heck of lot of choices picking between the republicans and democrats. What do you see about the attacks . I think theyre bad. Much worse and we saw a bit of a ruffle or the debate that trump had. I see trump has had a threat, its a positive for him because hes very effective, hes smart, he knows how to read the people and people want a boss and he could be the boss. Ill not look for a boss. I want someone to say release the Creative Energy and let people have more liberty in the economy to get out of the bind of a ridiculous Federal Reserve that tinkers with Interest Rates at zero or negative. I want a country that doesnt get involved in the wars around the world. Its such a drain on us. A drain on our personnel, as well as a drain on our finances. But theyre not offering that and i think thats what im concerned about, is that trump is going to be the most efficient at using the executive orders. Hell say this is the way it is. You know, obama was pretty arrogant. If you dont do it in congress, ill write an order. I think that trump will be ten times worse on writing orders because hes used to doing this and brags about it. He wants to be, he wants to be the boss. Im not looking for a boss. We want somebody that will allow us to be our own bosses which is what we should be looking for. Maria do you feel like people want a boss, somebody who is going to get in there and look like theyre fighting for the the American People after the last seven years, many people feel their needs were not looked at, were not responded to in any way, theyre getting rolled over from obamacare to, you know, the g. O. P. Republicans and the inability to get anything done . Well, i think we should distinguish between being a boss and telling people how they should run their lives and how the economy should run, versus having strong leadership because i think if theres a strong leader that says what we need is more liberty and Less Government and spending and balanced budget, yes, that takes a strong position, but it doesnt take a person who becomes the boss who tells everybody what to do, but i think theres a big difference between being a boss to run things versus a strong individual to have strong convictions and can defend it from american traditions and the moral principles of of personal liberty. Thats what we need and thats what the people are starved for. So people hear that message and i think they would always gravitate to wanting to be their own boss, but theyre desperate now and scared and so many people have been victimized by this economy and the middle class is wiped out by our Monetary System and there are a lot of reasons for people to be angry.
