Country. 89 of the country feel theyre middle class. They havent been getting squat. They are getting less money. Oh, by the way now they have obamacare. Melissa yeah. So theyre saying we want something for the middle class, if republicans democrats, working together cant give them something for the middle class we will have a taxpayer revolt. Melissa were awaiting Mitch Mcconnell. What do you think he has to say . He will offer the president an opportunity to work with the new congress to get some things done. Maybe to get tax reform done would be a big item on agenda. Is he optimistic that the president is going to cooperate . Im guessing not. Theyre probably thinking now about things they want to put on his desk. He can sign them or not. Melissa what is the smartest thing to put out there right away . Tweaks to obamacare, not trying to repeal it, palatable, less onerous on economy. Tweaks to doddfrank would be good. Some sort of a tax reform would be good. I would say this the smart move for president obama would be to embrace the republicans, be the aint going to happen. I agree with you charlie, but is not bill clinton. Friends close, enemies closer. If he does that, moderates somewhat, Hillary Clinton will be president in 2016. It aim going to happen. Economy will get better. He said over last few hours. Will he be bill clinton or saul alinsky . I think you guys are right, i think he will be saul alinsky. Melissa seems like most important issue to voters without question i think is the economy. That is what everybody is feeling. Exit polls, 41 say it is not good. 28 say it is poor. He said it perfectly. You had a lot of stuff going on for poor people, right . For obamacare and jobs on the low end. Rich people did very well under qe and all of the interest rates. Melissa because of fed and stock market. You had enough money to be in you did very well. Anywhere from 150,000 to 50 or a little more you got screwed 350,000. Disagree with part of that. This era is disaster for the poor. Plenty of handouts and lots of unemployment. This is one of the great ironies of the obama era. His Core Coalition has really suffered. [all talking at once] hang on, one at a time, guys. David, go ahead. Youre overthinking this. Right on stats. Middle class. Middle class sees obama phones. Middle class sees increase in welfare checks, food stamps et cetera. And middle class sees wall street making out like bandits and see nothing for themselves. Unemployment insurance being extended. Welfare reform done. Im not saying the poor is doing better. Theyre still better. Benefits that came to the poor under this administration, have been astounding. Much. Melissa james, tell them why theyre wrong . He knows im right. Wonder why did the amazing obama turnout machine did not show up this time . Maybe because he has to be on the ballot . Maybe because finally coalition that he built in 2008 in 2012 almost like after christmas. Christmas day the kid are excited about the their presents and everything. About a month later the presents are all in a corner of the room. The poor thought they were going to get a lot of benefits from obama realize there is limit to productivity. Maybe limits to the demographic advantage that democrats are supposed to have. Single white women was supposed to be bigtime supporter. I betcha they went to the republicans on this one. Melissa were expecting president obama will speak out on the midterm elections later this hour. Keep going. Were looking for what he is going to say. What do you think . A lot of people talking about the tone that he has to strike here. What does he have to say to convince people, convince voters that he heard their message, that he will follow what they want . He has to convince democrats to stay within the democratic fold. There are a lost democrats, if he continues, if he has veto, after veto of all new bills republicans put on his desk, eventually theyre going to be some democrats who are worried about their next election and will start joining republicans to override those vetoes. If he does not do what charlie suggested he should do, he will have to do something to keep democrats in the fold. Im just as interested in what Hillary Clinton has to say coming out of this. Melissa i dont know, you dont think she sits back and waits . Still looking at Mitch Mcconnell approaching the podium. Hang on. Lets listen in. Good afternoon, everyone. Would i like to introduce dr. Ramsey. He is the president of the university who is here. Jim, thank you for joining us today. [applause] you may recognize these youngsters over here. Theyre in a Scholarship Program worked on with the university over last 20 years. Good to see you. Best and Brightest Program for the students inside kentucky, 10 each year. And theyre here today to witness what we may talk about. So let me just make a couple of observations. I think what the voters were saying yesterday was a couple of things. Number one, theyre obviously not satisfied with the direction of the administration. But at the same time i heard a lot of discussion about dysfunction in washington. I think there are a lot of people who believe that just because you have divided government that doesnt mean you dont accomplish anything. Earlier today i got a call from the president. Also from senator reid and the speaker. And ted cruz too. Which i thought you would be interested in. All of whom i think have the view that we ought to see what areas of agreement there are and see if we can make some progress for the country. I always like to remind people that divided government is not unusual in this country. Weve had it frequently. I think maybe even more often than not since world war ii. When the American People choose divided government i dont think it means they dont want us to do anything. I think it means they want us to look for areas of agreement. Reagan never had the house in eight years. Clinton didnt have the house or senate with six of his eight years. I think of four fairly significant things done. Reagan and tip oneill saved Social Security for a generation. Did the last comprehensive tax reform. We need to do that again. Bill clinton and republicans did welfare reform and balanced budget three years in a row. I think we ought to start with the view that maybe there is some things we can agree on to make progress for the country. From institutional point of view, the senate needs to be fixed. I made a speech back in january, not widely covered, probably shouldnt have been widely covered but, a lot of people inside the senate paid a lot of attention to it. The senate in the last few years basically doesnt do anything. We dont even vote. Senator begich, who may have been defeated yesterday, had handicap of trying to explain to the people of alaska why in six years he hadnt had a roll call vote on the floor on an amendment. The first thing i need to do is to get the senate back to normal. That means working more. I dont think weve had any votes on friday in anybodys memory. It means, opening the senate up so that amendments are permitted on both side. And it means occasionally burning the midnight oil in order to reach a conclusion. I can remember the way we used to get bills finished, was for the majority leader to announce on monday were taking up a particular bill and were going to finish it. Finish it thursday night, friday morning or saturday but you have to mean it. And it is amazing what happened around midnight on thursday. People who were very aggressive on tuesday morning, were awfully anxious to leave friday morning. And amendments would go away and bills would pass. Another thing is sound astonishing all to you, the committees need to be relevant again. If a bill comes out of committee on bipartisan basis you have got both democrats and republicans who are interested in seeing it passed. So there is bipartisan constituency for moving forward. Now, having said that, there are differences. And we will certainly, could be voting on things as well that we think the administration is not fond of. They seem to have had no interest, for example, in doing anything serious on the energy front. We havent had an energy bill in seven years. When you say energy these days, people think of the Keystone Pipeline but that is only part of it. We need tome brace the Energy Revolution thats going on in our country, promote it. It is hugely advantageous to america. Not only in the area of Energy Independence but employment. I have mean the employment figures connected with keystone are stunning, if we would just get going. There will certainly be areas of disagreement but that is not unusual going back to the founding of the country. So with that let me throw it open. [inaudible] tell us based on what the message of voters, many say they want to see gridlock end. What can you do, and can you assure the American People gridlock can end under your leadership . Well the senate was the problem. Not the house. The house passed over 300 pieces of legislation, many on a bipartisan basis and nothing was done with them in the senate. The American People changed the senate. So i think we have an obligation to change the behavior of the senate. And to begin to function again. That doesnt guaranty that the president will agree with everything we do but were going to go back to work and actually pass legislation. By the way called by three problem men democrats since last night, prominent democrats. Theyre anxious to be relevant again. Theyre anxious for Committee Work to be respected. Theyre anxious to be able to offer amendments on the floor of the senate, actually get votes. So, yeah, that is the way you get rid of gridlock. Doesnt guaranty you got president ial signature on absolutely everything. President s have a right to veto, something the president hadnt had to do. He vetoed two little bills in six years. First two years he loved everything he got. And current majority made you are sure he didnt get anything he didnt like. That is how you cure gridlock. Jeff. After all the gridlock how can the american believe believe you . We have to demonstrate it. Im sorry. What are a couple of specific examples of things that you think you can work with the president on . Yeah. Trade agreements. President and i were just talking about that right before i came over here. Most of his party is unenthusiastic International Trade. We think its good for america. And so ive got a lot of members who believe that International Trade agreements are a winner for america. And the president and i discussed that right before i came over here. And i think hes interested in moving forward. I said, send us trade agreements. Were anxious to take a look at them. The president hasnt indicated he is interested in doing tax reform. We all know having the highest Corporate Tax rate in the industrialized world is a job exporter. All this stock about job exportation, well it is exporting jobs is having highest Corporate Tax rate in the industrialized world. He is interested in that issue and we are too. So those are two very significant areas of potential agreement. [inaudible] work with you or do you believe that he will be pulled by his own party to only one democrat who counts, the president. Let me illustrate the point. When joe biden and i negotiated the fiscal cliff deal at the end of 2012, the thing i wanted the most that thought would be the most important for kentucky was a five Million Dollar per person estate tax exemption. A lot of people who have family farms and Small Businesses look like theyre worth a lot of money but they really arent. And if youre lucky enough to have children who want to continue to farm, or continue to Small Business you cant get it down to them, you could not in the past because of the estate tax exemption. 5 million exemption indexed for inflation, permanent law would save 99 of the Small Businesses and farms in my state from having to be sold. The leader of the democrats in the house made quite clear to me that if that was in the final deal, House Democrats wouldnt vote for it. I thanked her. It was in the final deal and only 15 House Democrats voted against it and only three senate democrats. The point im making is, the democrat who counts is the president of the United States. He agrees tocongress will do. And that was a perfect example of exactly what im talking about. So, and you know, we were very much inclined to support president bush as well. This is not unusual. When you have the white house, the most important member of your party is the person in the white house. So, well see whether we can work with the president. I hope so. That is what he says. Well find out. David . Thank you, senator mcconnell, except for a few deals that you have worked out mainly with Vice President biden the president and Congressional Republicans dont really have a good track record of working things out. Can you talk about how you think a United Republican Congress with possibility the ability to send president bills to either force a veto or sign might alter the dynamic . Im not sure he will sign everything. But were going to function. We are. Were going to pass legislation. Some of it he may not like but were going to function. This gridlock and dysfunction can be ended, it could be ended by having a senate that actually, excuse me, that actually works. Opportunity for forcing negotiation with one house that might be fruitful as opposed to way it has been so far . Well i mean the veto pen is a pretty big thing. You know the president of the United States can deliver the members of the his party to vote for a deal that he makes or he can veto legislation. He is a player. That is the way our system works. Yesterday, as you were talking about before you came out on stage for your victory speech senator paul said they would send bill after bell to the president until he repeals obamacare until he is weary of it. Seems that one is he will likely veto, what other powers or tools can you do to slow down the Affordable Care act . There is no secret everyone of my members thinks that obamacare was a huge legislative mistake. It is fouled up the Health Insurance market. Put states in a deep hole in terms of the Medicaid Expansion and their own ability to finance it a few years from now. If i had to the ability, carl, i obviously i would get rid of it. Obviously it is also true it is still there. So well be discussing how to go forward on this issue when we get back. I will say this for sure. There are pieces of it that are deeply, deeply unpopular with the American People. The medical device tax, which is exported enormous number of jobs. The loss of the 40hour work week, big, big mistake. That ought to be restored. The individual mandate, people hate it. So, i think we will be addressing that issue in a variety of different ways. Senator mcconnell, senator mcconnell, as you know, regardless what happens in the last few races you will still be short 60 votes in the senate. You have a pretty idealogically diverse conference including a number of blue state republicans up for reelection in 2016. How realistic is it, should your base, should there be reality check for your base how far you can go in pushing a conservative agenda in the new congress . Well, well find out. I mean what you state is statement of the obvious that it takes 60 votes to do a lot of things in the senate but there are some things we can do with 51 votes. A budget is an extremely important thing. The president does not sign the budget. And that determines how much were going to spend. I think it is within our ability, within our power to pass more appropriation bills which fund the government. And there is no secret that i and most of my members think that the bureaucratic strangulation of our economy is a real, is a huge factor in the slow growth that weve experienced after the deep recession of 2008. I think it is reasonable to assume that we will use the power of the purse to try to push back against this overactive bureaucracy. Of course we have a huge example of that here in this state with the war on coal. Not authorized by congress. Capandtrade, couldnt get the votes to pass when our friends on other side owned the place, had huge majority notice house and senate they couldnt pass capandtrade. The president tried to do it anyway. There is widespread opposition to that. And you would look for us to go after those kind of things through the, through the spending process which i think is our best tool in our governmental system. Process to. Well see how we do. Paul, paul kaine . In the debt ceiling fight afterward you told me it was a hostage not worth shooting but a hostage Worth Holding for some ransom. Debt ceiling is come up this time in the spring or summer. Will we have another brinksmanship moment there . Or are those sorts of crises going to end . Let me make it clear, there will be no Government Shutdowns and no default on national debt. Part of debt ceiling one of the issues i dont believe you mentioned is immigration, in terms of what you might work with the president on. We expect he will move forward with some sort of, executive action in this area. What will republican response be and would you seek to move a republican immigration plan . I think the president choosing to do a lot of things unilaterally on immigration would be a big mistake. It is an issue most of my members want to address legislatively. And it is like, waving a red flag in front of a you will about to say, in front of a bull, to say if you guys dont do what you want i will do it on my own. The president has done that on obamacare and on immigration and threaten to do it again. I hope he wont do that because i think it poisons the well for the opportunity to address a very important domestic issue. How are republicans responding if that comes. I point r wouldnt do that to you. Could you tell us a little more you obviously worked with the president for a number of years now. You had communications with him. Sometimes cordial, sometimes not so cordial. What do you sense having talked to him today about his mood, what he is willing to do . Everyone talks you mentioned tip oneill and reagan that was wonderful camelot moment in this country with bipartisanship. Can that be achieved between you, republicans an president. The relationship i had with the president is always cordial. There is not a personality problem here or anything like that. My attitude about all this is trust but verify. Lets see, American People have spoken. They have given us divided government. The question for both the president and for the speaker and myself and our members, what are you going to do with it. I have already said i wan to first look for areas of, we can agree on. There are probably are some. Thats what were going it be talking about in the next, in the next few weeks. Senator sir, you said you would, did you basically say you promised there will not be a Government Shutdown . Is that holding out an olive branch to the president. Wheelwell not be shut down government or defaulting on national debt. Has president invited you to come to the white house . Were going to a lunch friday i think youre already aware of. Senator . Senator, do you have any concern about those members about your conference who might want to run for president , like to step outside of your leadership . How will you handle them . Look, i know a lot of people who want to run for president. [laughing] what i tell them all is, the best day you will have the day before you announce. It is as short of a, short of being in combat and being shot at with real bullets, there isnt anything harder running for president. Unless running for reelection unless youre a leader of one of the parties in the senate. Look, i have no problem with peoples ambitions. Im, i serve in a body, with a bunch of class president s. Theyre all [inaudible]. Melissa okay we lost the feed for a second. A lot of good material while we try to get that back. That was not republican leader, thats what were calling him right now, Mitch Mcconnell, how the senate doesnt do anything right now. How they have to get back to business. How actually have to work on friday and what a novel idea there. There is number of specific issues he mentioned. That is what people are legally listening for, what is at the top of the list. First thing he mentioned was energy. He mentioned that we havent had Energy Policy in seven years. He talked about the Keystone Pipeline in particular. Number two, he talked about trade agreements. He said he was on the phone with the president and they had spoken specifically about. That he also talked about tax reform. Do we have the feedback . Well listen in. I said to my members november 13 and trigger was pulled and rules of the senate were broken, that is something we ought to address if were given the majority and we have been given the majority and we will address it. [inaudible] no. Im going to discuss that with our colleagues. Its a big issue. You know, largely lost on the general public, but the most significant thing about what majority leader decided to do was to break the rules of the senate which require 67 votes, to change the rules of the senate. By overruling the parliamentarian who said you can not do that, with 51. It was a huge, huge, mistake in my view. It is hard to unring a bell. They have now, established a precedent. It is a big issue and big discussion well have in the coming months. How is call with senator cruz . You mentioned that he called you today . He just called me to congratulate me on my election and was impressed with the margin and i was pretty happy about it myself. We had a good, friendly conversation. Yeah, im sorry. Do you believe that he will be, some of those other republicans who are running for president , will make it more difficult for you to have a responsible governing majority you mentioned . We have all kind of people in a 50, i hope, 54member senate. Well see where we are at the end of the voting. [inaudible]. We had different you can talk to hip. It was a very cordial conversation. I appreciated the call. Think about switching over to your side . He called to congratulate me on my election. No, i have not talked to him about that. He is a pretty independent guy. I think he probably will announce today what he will do. You said twice now that it would not be a default but would you insist on cuts to correspond with any debt ceiling increase the way john boehner has in the past . Well we have the opportunity now to pass a budget. Which has to do with how much youre going to spend. So i think we have other mechanisms that were unavailable to us with the previous configuration of the government. And i think thats a pretty important tool. Paul . Can you talk about your phone call with harry reid . You two have had the most acrimonious relationship no. Oh, no, you said most open acrimonious relationship of any two leaders in a long time. We had some spirited debates on the floor of the senate about the way the place is being run. But, we dont have an acrimonious relationship personally. I mean, anyway. What was your question . What was that conversation like and are you two going to work Better Together . Well he called to, obviously having been a leader in a tough race himself, he called to actually to compliment me on what at that skillful campaign we ran. He obviously paid very close attention to it. And as many of us have discussed before, that has sort of been the new paradigm since daschle was defeated. That you get a coined of president ial level kind of a president ial campaign if youre leader of senate harry said he followed it very closely. And, complimented me on a campaign wellrun. Favor to him in 2016 . [laughter] look, im not, i didnt get involved the last time he was up and i dont intend to be involved this time. [inaudible] talk a little bit Foreign Policy and what your objectives will be as Senate Majority leader . Well i think the immediate concern in the health area is obviously the ebola crisis and what, if anything the administration feels they need further on financial side. With regard to the authorization to help syrian rebels, as you know, we insisted on that terp nating at the end of this year so we could have a new discussion with the administration about sort of where the administration sees the battle against isis. So i think that is one of the things the president mentioned will be on our agenda at luncheon friday, where we are and what recommendations he may have to make about the way forward. Any on irs . You can bet on that, yeah. Senator what you talked about how much of a window do you see yourself having to pass big legislation next year . How willing are you to use the reconciliation tool david, i think thats, we have to finish this years session. By the way, harry reed is still the majority leader. We should discuss what we should wrap up during the lame duck. There are a number of things sort of put off that how the bill has handled say that again . It expires in december. Whether to do a cr. Talking about whether to do the tax extender package. There are a number of things that have sort of stacked up. I mean, i think ive said it before and i will say it again, the senate hadnt been doing anything. So there is a whole lot of unfinished business, sitting there. Some of which is might be be advantageous to get out of the way. Democrats may want to do it, we may want to do i, in order to clear off some of the necessary work that has simply been undone in the dysfunctional senate. What about doddfrank, do you see any attempts to roll back some of those reforms . What . Doddfrank, the Banking Committee certainly going to be taking a look at doddfrank. I called it frequently obamacare for banks. The big guys are doing just fine under doddfrank. Community bankers are struggling. I do think Banking Committee will want to take a look at how much damage it has done to the little guys who had nothing whatsoever to do with the with the meltdown in 2008. I would be surprised if the Banking Committee isnt going to take a look at it. May send something our way. Joe. Senator you said after 2010 you were surprised president obama did not shift more toward the center. Does he have a responsibility after message from the American People last night to do that now . Did you communicate that with him on phone call . I hope that is what he does. You cant do anything without a president ial signature. You mentioned it. Veto pen is a pretty powerful tool. Rage fan and clinton are, reagan and clinton dealt what they had. Clinton never had the house. Reagan never had the house. Clinton didnt have the house for six years. He can probably stay on the current course he is on. Vetoing any effort to push back what he is doing. Having people work for him doing his bidding. He could mention i couple issues i think are important. We could have potential issues of agreement. Trade and tax reform. So well see. [inaudible] if so, how you prevent conservative members from yanking it back . Look, i pretty new members coming in. Vast majority of them, dont feel that they were certainty to washington to just fight all the time. And, as ive said repeatedly here, divided government is not the reason to do nothing. In fact, divideed government is pretty productive. I think vast majority of my members would rather make progress on things that they think the country need to be dealt not. But, in our system, the president is the moats important player. Because, of all the obvious constitutional advantages he has. And so it will require his complicity, to do that. And, he has been protected from having to do that, the last four years by the dysfunctional senate. Which doesnt pass anything. Doesnt send him anything, that he didnt like, now he is going to have a congress that is going to be more challenging for him. But the choices are really his. And, im hoping that he will decide to move to the center. Senator rand paul last night ted cruz declined to say whether or not he would support you for majority leader. Im wondering when you spoke for him, did he pledge his support to you. And if not . Let me just make a prediction for you. Thanks a lot, everyone. [laughter] number one, you mentioned that energy. Talking to the president directly on the phone about that in particular. Talking about tax reform very high on the agenda. Also, when asked if he thinks the president will shift to the center, he says hes sure hope so. He talked about the senate being relevant again. About doing relevant things. Soon enough it will be time to put up or shut up in washington without question. What do you think we are realistically thinking should get done. We also have the Heritage Foundation steve moore. It is interesting that you mentioned Energy Policy. Tax reform. I actually think a lot of that can happen. What he did not say is interesting. He did not bring up immigration. A lot of conservatives, like myself, think it has to get done to win in 2016. I just want to make one other point of clarification. I have interviewed Mitch Mcconnell many times while he was at the wall street journal. It is personal between barack obama and Mitch Mcconnell and john boehner. They just do not like each other. There was definitely a mandate by the voters. Looking at the current climate they dont hate Mitch Mcconnell, because they elect him. There is a mandate on both republicans and democrats to get things done. There are some Common Ground territories. Melissa tony, it is all cool by right now. How long does that last . You have this tax package. This total agreement 32 democrats in the house. The problem is, as with everything else, it goes to the senate and dies under harry reid. I think you will see a bipartisan tax reform package. Melissa james, what do you think of the tone. There was not a lot of self congratulations. The country would like to see the government get something done. Something decent. The right things done. Mitch mcconnell. Not mr. Excitement. He is giving you that sober, sensible approach. I think he really understands the history. What you have in Mitch Mcconnell is a very affordable player. One thing where i think you could really see progress is trades. He has less to do. Melissa that is a great point. Thanks to all four of you. I appreciate it. President obamas first remarks. Back on wall street as the dow hits a new all street type. Wall street and full spring. At the end of the day, i have to remind you, it is all about got me to 70 years old im going to have to rethink this thing its hard to imagine how much well need for a retirement that could last 30 years or more. So maybe we need to approach things differently, if we want to be ready for a longer retirement. I take prilosec otc each morning for my frequent heartburn. Because it gives me. President obama said to take to the podium just minutes from now. Our old rich and could use at the white house with more. Mitch mcconnell secured possibly 54 seats. Mcconnell says under his leadership, the senate will work again. Tax reform and trade. He also said there will be no debt to fall. There will be no shut downs. We have an opportunity to pass a budget. I think we have other mechanisms. Mcconnell also talked about possible legislation on energy. The administration is through the doddfrank law. Republicans working with democrats. The question is, how well would they do . Melissa we will bring you the president s comments live as soon as they happen. We expect that to be any minute. Trying to create a situation where he is perceived as being part of the leadership. I am worried about what he is going to do. He clearly will be an obstruction to the agenda. The president has been on board with that from louisiana. With the president have to do is at least. 2 specific things that he will agree to move on quickly. Melissa what do you expect to hear from the president . I think we can see the president coming out with an open arm. They have named already. I think the president will be open to those things. Are republicans serious about governing . Most of the bills we have seen melissa steve, you want to get in there and respond to that one . Hearing the message of the voters. Melissa james freeman, the majority of the country is still very worried about the economy. He talked about Energy Policy which would create jobs. He talked about trade issues. Tax reform and obamacare. Go ahead i think that the whole country wants to hear from the president that he is serious about Economic Growth and job creation. The big question will be does he now finally view this as a way to grow our economy faster . That is what he has always said. The u. S. Is punishing companies for making monies overseas. It may be the beginning of a discussion. Clearly the president will want to do something. 45 of voters voted against democrats last night. We have two pushback on this very antiquated narrative. From everything from the debt ceiling to continuing resolutions to sequestration. What we have now, though, is a legitimate process in which article one of the constitution may actually work. It makes the president responsible to work with congress. Melissa what do you think the tone will be like . I think that the president cannot deny that last night was a tough night for the party. Theyd be very open to working with republican leadership. It is just mcconnell and boehner. They clearly do not have a firm control over the caucus. They will have to get that in mind as well. Who is the president supposed to be dealing with . How many pieces does he have to work with . It seems like the president has to come out. He also shapes the message in the way he wants to get going. Obviously, they do not come out exactly the same on how to get to the objectives. I think they do share the object of peeling back obamacare. We keep hearing it from lawmakers. You may get some relief. There are a lot of changes that i think they agree it is time to send to the president asked. Melissa go ahead. Steve, go ahead. Talking about the republicans. You know where that will not be true now, the statehouses. The republicans now control most of these major states. I think you will see a flurry of incredible reforms. That is where things actually get done in america. I do agree that we will see a lot more coming from the states. Everyone is focusing on creating messaging bills. The state really has been moving forward. I do think that we will see a lot of action. I think we will see it on both sides. Republicans can be forthcoming and focusing on repealing obamacare. You cannot do both. You will probably get a lot of democratic votes on getting rid of that. You cannot disregard what has actually happened in the house. Pieces of legislation with bipartisan support. Fixing the privacy concerns that are very prevalent in the obamacare online exchanges. They have died in the senate because the president has used harry reid effectively. The real issues will not just be president obama. It will be the other democrats in 2016. Most of these pills or just these messaging bills. The claimant has been so aggressive. Melissa changing the fact that that is the fill. That is how it came out. They did not get a single republican vote. They did it themselves. They pay the consequences for that. Obama does not want to go down in history as a failed president. He has to start making deals with republicans. Melissa he talked energy out of the gates. I think it will go to the ribboncutting ceremony. He opposed the pipeline. He had his own Pipeline Company that he wanted involved in the mix. I do think you will have to go with that energy agenda. Outside of the economy and obamacare, it was one of the biggest issues. I am not sure that is a given. Melissa here is the president of the United States. Lets listen in. Today i had a chance to speak with john boehner and congratulated Mitch Mcconnell. I told them both that i look forward to finishing up this congress is business. The prospect of working together is deliverable for the American People. On friday, i look forward to hosting a meeting at the white house. Obviously, the republicans had a good night. What stands out to me is the American People sent a message. One that they sent for several elections now. They expect the people to work as hard as they do. They expect us to focus on their ambitions and not ours. They want us to get the job done. All of us, and both parties, have a responsibility to address that. To everyone who voted, we want you to know that i hear you. Process yesterday, i hear you, too. All of us have to give more americans a reason to feel like the ground is stable beneath their feet, that the future is secure, that theres a path for young people to succeed, and that folks here in washington are concerned about them. So i plan on spending every moment of the next two plus years doing my job the best i can, to keep this country safe and to make sure that more americans share in its prosperity. This countrys made Real Progress since the crisis six years ago. The fact is more americans are working, unemployment has come down, more americans have Health Insurance, manufacturing has grown. Our deficits have shrunk, our dependence on foreign oil is down, as are gas prices. Graduation rates are up. Our businesses arent just creating jobs since the fastest pace since the 1990s, our economy is outpacing most of the world. But we just got to keep at it until every american feels the gains of the growing economy where it matters most, thats in their own lives. Obviously, much of that will take action from congress. And im eager to work with the new congress to make the next two years as productive as possible. I am committed to making sure that i measure ideas, not by whether they are from democrats or republicans, but whether they work for the American People, and thats not to say that we wont disagree over some issues that were passionate
