Melissa our top story tonight. Syria actually making serious attempts to reach tomorrows deadline which is when the regime is required to submit the location and amount of its chemical weapons arsenal. We know a short time ago syria turned over an initial disclosure of deadly inventory though it is too soon to know if the information is legitimate or a ploy to hold the world at bay. We know that president assad thinks that you and i should pay on order of billion dollars that it would cost to disarm the chemical weapons. Here with the latest details and a look inside the mind of the madman that is is assad, christian whiteman, a former state Department Senior advisor and we have psychologist jeff gardere with us. Welcome to both of you. Jeff what do you think we know so far about the list . Who knows what is in it. We have no details. Fox confessed on fox news that he had chemical weapons. This is surprise to nobody. It behooves him to have fairly comprehensive list. There is preliminary one he submitted so far. Another one is expected tomorrow. Melissa christian, let me stop you there why does it behoove him to have a comprehensive list . Seems he write as list of few things and lets grab those and keep rest locked away somewhere elsewhere he can get to it later . There is that possibility. Look at other dictatorship that have done this. North korea, at end of the day, the west, u. S. Intelligence, israeli tell against has a pretty good idea of what is in there. It is in their interest to an extent to disclose a fair amount. A lot is moved around. Assad was assured he could move a lost this around subsequently especially if the Obama Administration repeats what it has done in the past which is to telegraph what it will do, whether a missile strike or some other move well in advance of actually doing it. Melissa dr. Gardere, weve seen a couple interviews with assad on television. You watch the manner he speaks, things he says and screams out for psychoanalysis. What do you make of him so far . Screams out for the basic Defense Mechanisms of being in denial. Of using intellectualization and rationalization, trying to explain things that really should not happen. And this is an individual who can not live with the doing knit tiff dissonance that 100,000 people are dead. Two Million People on e on the borders. 14 Million People are affected by sarin gas his government allegedly put out there. We know now he has chemical weapons. To live that way he has to use Defense Mechanisms. He has to convince himself he is doing this for the syrian people. It is not about his agenda but keeping his country alive. Melissa does he or is a man motivated by greed for money . He made more than a billion dollars since he is in office one way or another. I dont know a lot of politicians that make a billion dollars while theyre in power. Is he trying to sort things out so it is fair . Is he saying at the end of of te today day it is always about money. It is always about money as you say. In this case 30 or 40 years his family has been amassing these fortunes and staying in power. He has to carry out that mantle as his father did, the lion of damascus did himself. He has to carry that blood line. As part of that he fooled himself into thinking that he is doing something very, very noble. Melissa yeah. Christian, tactically what is his best move here in terms of this list and what he wants to happen from here . Is it stalling . Is it handing over a partial list . If you were to give him advice what is his best move . His best move is follow what north korea did where you essentially sucker diplomats from the west, assad done this with people like nancy pelosi and john kerry. You move them along. You think youre in the process of disarming and you never actually deliver the goods. You talk about the money. North korea did Something Like what assad is trying to do which is send us a bill for supposedly disarming. North korea blue up irrelevant cooling tower at Nuclear Facility and sent us bill for dynamite which we paid. Melissa dr. Gardere, is it meaningful at all when you look into his past, at one point like the corleones. He was basically out of the Family Business for a while. He was in europe. Studying to be an ophthalmologist. Studying surgery. Met his current wife who was a British National at the time. It was his older brother who was supposed to take over and was killed in a car accident and he kind of got dragged back into the Family Business. Thats right. Melissa does that figure into his psychology and his motivations right now at all . I think youre dead on and thats why in many ways there were a lot of hopes when he came into power would modernize that region. That he would open up communications. That he would be a much more humanitarian leader than his father was, but as you have aptly said, pulled back into the Family Business. Has to keep that family in power as it has been in power, sometimes by vicious means. And therefore now, has gotten into the mind set that he has to do whatever he can do in order to keep that dynasty going. Melissa real quick before we go, christian what do you think is the u. S. s strongest move right now . What should we do . We should not try to reach out to iran this week at the u. N. General assembly. That would be a sign of weakness. We are fighting two sides in syria. It is assad and jihadists. It is important moneywise because turkey and jordan, the future of those two countries on the line politically and militarily. This administration in the u. S. Has to get its head in the game, realize who the enemies are and figure out how to help the few remaining good guys. Melissa glad you brought up iran. That is what were going to talk about now. Appreciate both your time. Thanks. Melissa iran is now making lits relationship with the u. S. An oped by iranian president hassan rouhani, seems to indicate the regime wants to renew relations with the u. S. He writes about hoping to end, quote, unhealthy rivalries. The tiling is spot on we were talking about as he and president obama will attend the u. N. General assembly this week. Here with his expert take on the intent behind it all and whether were being played is wall plead farris. Fox news middle east analyst. Walid, with what do you think . Now . We are being played. It is evidently clear. Give you two examples. End of 1990s, just before 9 11 there was president hatami. He was presented as reformer. Get closer to the United States after death of khomeni, founder, rigid radical founder of the republic. What really happened those who ruled iran are not the president. It is intelligence service, the Iranian Revolutionary guard. So short of having a clear reform inside iran, that would change the mentality and political agenda of the government everything that the president is saying including this letter is to gain time, a lot of time. Melissa gain time and once again, it all comes back to at end of the day it is all about money, right . Is that what this, is that what the olive branch would be about . And sanctions . It is all about money, but money for whom . Very important to understand that iran has an economy, the National Economy of iran which is suffering somewhat from these sanctions. Then you have the economy of the regime. The wealth of the people ruling iran. The now when our pressure foes against the Iranian Regime economy, then youre going to see them copping and negotiating. But as long as people are suffering, they dont care. There is no democracy to worry about any ran. Melissa but i could see the Obama Administration saying look, were making positive strides with syria. We are going to have to strike them militarily. Now theyre handing over a list of their chemical weapons and looks like we will get them out of their hands. At the same time look at iran. Theyre takeing a page from book and theyre reaching out and they want to come to terms as well. Couldnt this be spun in a positive direction and whats wrong with that narrative . The way the administration is putting it a little bit of its own construction. Weve mobilized all of ships in front of syria, they got scared. They will give us the weapons. Melissa right. Because the irransians see what syrians are doing they will be scared even more. Syrians and iranians see administration they got scared, they had all the ships and couldnt do a strike on us and well continue to manuever. In syria i heard actual discussion, he will do everything except give us all his weapons. In iran they will gain time. Why gain time . To actually produce the weapon. They will gain time to surprise us with a weapon the way pakistan and india did in 1999. Melissa you think it is about stalling . Not about getting us to soften sanctions so they can free up their economy again . Yet another stall tactic and this is a way to achieve that . If they want to do so. Ive been monitoring this regime for last 35 years. You know what happened . President goes to the Iranian National assembly. He deliver as speech, tell them time for war is over. Weve got to stop this and we have to move to befriend the United States he is not doing this. Just issuing those letters and letter in the Washington Post means nothing. The narrative says were going to think about it. And maybe when we get together well have good intentions. What is the constant, substance of the letter, there is nothing that would be meaningful. Melissa all right. Walid, thank you very much. Appreciate your analysis always. Thank you. Melissa such good stuff. Next on money, forget the new iphone, the line just to get them has become a Cottage Industry with people making money for nothing. Well tell you how much youre missing out on. Plus, tesla, tesla, tesla. Just how does it say so high . Musk has the midas touch. We have a car expert says he is actually behind everyone else in his newest venture. How is that possible . The big money story how much people are banking on the business of being in line. Did you even know that was a business . It is a whole new Cottage Industry popping up worth big bucks with people getting paid literally just to stand there. You wont believe what is going on. Here with all the details of this moneymaking phenomenon is tech analyst rob enderle. , rob, i knew something was up and see pictures everybody sitting in the same tshirt, youre like okay. What is the deal with that . What is the deal with the tshirts . Go ahead. You can make about 800 up towards the front of the line and willing to wear some brands tshirt. They will pay you 800 bucks. Cameras will come by and show the lines. Incredibly inexpensive advertising. Tv Time International and local. Advertiser is only out 800 bucks per person as opposed to thousands of dollars you typically pay for an ad. Melissa i guess if the person wanted to stand in line anyway, 800 bucks pays for portion of your phone. Even looking at those signs, those people, i dont see what the shirts say. I mean is it worth anything . Well, i dont think so but as long as the advertisers pay for people to wear the shirt, off they two. Recognize a lot of those folks are getting paid to stand in line as well. Theyre makeing a good deal of money going through this process. Melissa this one were looking at right now, says, sym. Sell your mac. I had to ask what does that mean, what is that for. If youre average person looking at interviews, i dont know, do you care to look what sym is . You were talking about one of the other ways to make money, standing in lime for someone else. Task rob bit is a company that works on this they received 350 requests from new york and san francisco, of people who want someone else to stand in line for them and theyre willing to pay 14 bucks an hour. Hmmm. How good of a business is that . Yeah. Pretty good. One guy last year got a request for the to stand in line for 100 hours, walked away with nearly 1500 bucks. Taskrabbit tacks on 20 . Works out pretty well for them and they dont want to stand in line. Looks pretty lucrative. Melissa pretty lucrative. Best way to make money virtually standing in line, flip the phones you actually buy. If you look at ebay, 64 gigabit people were bidding on somebody standing in line. It was up over 1500. Thats a huge business, right . How much money can you make flipping the phone that you stand in line for . Yeah. Though theres a real risk here because you could be one of the folks left standing. There is no shortage of phones. Whatever that particular wave is, it is probably going to be over in hours, maximum, singledigit days. If you wait too long, suddenly youre left with a phone you probably cant sell for what you bought it for. So you have to play that game. Melissa flip it fast. Flip it fast. Yeah. Melissa is, do you think, how do you think iphone phone sales are going so far . We talked about yesterday that apple didnt prerelease how many phones they thought they were going to sell because they didnt want to put that benchmark out there they might not hit. Is that telling to you . What is your overall take on this sale . They never release their targets. Typically financial analysts release theirs. Financial analysts are reducing expectations from last year. I think last year was 7. 5 million. Anything over 6 million will be gravy which is down from 7. 5. The other thing is you have to watch, pretty much everybody is coming back and saying i dont want the 5c. C stands for cheap. Melissa right. Those are not moving at all. That is pretty big gamble. If the cs dont move just bounce in the market that will probably hurt. Melissa real quick before you go, first line guy in line, stories all over the place that he was standing in line 15 days. Do you believe that . Why would anyone do that. Probably for media attention. First in line at major venue will be one reporters talk to and interview. He certainly got into that story. It is one where you can get publicity of all you have to do is invest 15 days. If youre not really working, what the heck . Melissa that is what everybody on a twitter said. These people dont have jobs. It is not costing them anything. At least the weather has been nice. Rob, thank you for your time. Pleasure. Melissa next on money, could it be tesla is losing its magic touch falling behind in its newest venture . The stock surged on news that elon musk will have a selfdriving car in three years. We have the expert that says other companies could leave him in the dust. Plus, crushing the coal industry. The epa lays down severe regulations for new coal plants. The stock keeps going up and up. Even hitting another new record today in this latest move musk might be losing his midas touch. Word is he could be falling behind and behind the competition. Here is scott burgess, motor trend detroit editor. There is this hype around the idea that he is creating a selfdriving car. But you say he is late to that game . Absolutely. What he said was, he will have an autonomous carrin three years which would be fantastic. That would be great. He goes really what i will have is 90 of an autonomous car. Everybody already has it. It is last 10 that makes the big difference between autonomous and something the driver has to operate it. Melissa back up. What is in the 10 . Youre terrifying me. The whole idea of car driving itself and being totally autonomous, all of this doesnt necessarily sound like a great idea for me. But what is that last 10 . The last 10 knowing precise location of the car on the road. And also, act trouble being able to adapt to any kind of emergency. A cat in the middle of the road. Melissa and and you dont want to squish it. Right. You can buy a cadillac, her said, toyota with all the technology in it right now that would allow you to do what musk would be calling be on autopilot. Basically wouldnt have to touch the accelerator. Wouldnt have to touch the break. It will drive in the middle of the road and go for as long as you want. So, to me the announcement that he made, it, there wasnt much of announcement. Melissa yeah. You actually tested the gm version of this, right . Absolutely. It was in the cadillac. And, what you could do, you could drive down the road and you could take your hands off the wheel and car would take over. We were driving on an oval track. It was safe, but one of the things they did, they had a car cut in front of me and the car instantly hit the brakes, slowed down and, kept driving. And, it is an incredible technology. Though, ultimately i think what will determine whether it gets on the road will be lawyers, not engineers. Melissa right. I see a lot of problems with this. First of all, wasnt that scary to have no control over the car if something comes out . Were you scared . I would be terrified. Its, disconcerting when you first do it. One of the things that gm included on the seat was, y hitr side of the seat and it would actually move the car over a little bit in either direction. Melissa i think we had a problem with your microphone there. You got it nearby . You might have lost it. I dont want to leave without asking your impression of tesla. Once agains as you say, this is enough. Do we still have scott . Yeah. Melissa okay. Scott, you say that this isnt that big of a deal necessarily because theyre not ahead of the curve. At the same time we saw tesla stock bo to yet another alltime high. What do you think this stock is really worth . I dont know. And you know, im a car guy, not a stock guy. I really think that tesla hasnt proven itself in the market to make a profit. All of its profits have been based on some of the california credits. It has been around 10 years. Only two quarters it has a profit. You see a reaction that is almost like it is a tech stock, not a manufacturing stock. Melissa yeah. Toyota, ford, general motors, those companies are making billions of dollars a quarter and their stock hardly moves. Melissa yeah. Tesla made 51 million, 31 million, depend how you do the numbers and their stock jumps what is it up, five times . Melissa it is up 435 so far this year which is a staggering stat. Thank you so much for coming on. We appreciate. Thanks for having me. Melissa the cars that drive themselves. Boy, coming up on money, a debate on the government war on coal. The epa unveils ominous rules for new coal plants today. Is it final nail in the coffin to kill off coal . How much will it cost you . Weve got both sides here to let loose. Help the gulf when we made recover and learn the gulf, bp from what happened so we could be a better, safer energy company. I can tell you safety is at thheart of everything we do. Weve added cuttingedge technology, like a new deepwater well cap and a stateoftheart monitoring center, whe experts watch over all drilling activity twentyfourseven. And were sharing what weve learned, so we can all produce energy more safely. Our commitment has never been stronger. Melissa the fight this added again the epa harsh new rules to curb Carbon Emissions from coal and natural gas pleiads but how much will the couple from your pocketbook . Here to represent bullseye its rehab of the Heritage Institute what do you think of these new rules . It is the latest death of obama is plush to make good on his promise to bankrupt anybody that builds a coalfired power plant. The standards are not achievable and it will raise energy cost to all consumers for electricity prices go up 20 by 1,000 per year it is not good for jobs or income or electricity prices. Melissa is it economically not possible to have a clean coal plant . That was a lot of fear maundering. They just reflect the realities of the marketplace that coal is no laundry efficient compared to superior competing technologies like combined cycle power plants. These rules will make it more expensive to build a traditional call follow coalfired power plant and nobody is proposing those because Natural Gas Prices are as she she bore on bubble with a coal prices in the capital cost to build a new efficient power plant is 40 cheaper. Coal plants make no sense in this scenario. Melissa david, is that with this is about. The you can afford the combined cycle plant to terror natural gas into electricity that goal cannot compete . If they really believe that they would not need to make this rule because they would say the market would not do that anyway. That is why they have to have the rules there is no commercially viable coal plant right now operating at utility scale to capture the carbon and sequester it. They have demonstration projects that are smallscale. Melissa he says we cannot build any dirty coal plants if you have to invest in the more technical plants. He said to have to invest in the natural gas plant that coal is out the matter what. If that is true then lets not have the rule. No. It is only for the brand new plants it does not cover the existing fleet better currently generating electricity. We cannot use yesterdays Coal Technology in a world where we understand the environmental in a climate ramifications of coal. If you have competing technologies that are available today like natural gas call will lose. Melissa is a goal is not to do away with it entirely we are the saudi arabia of coal with a tremendous Natural Resources with the all of the above strategy to make use of what we have started with that, is there a way to make it affordable in to the rules meet that standard . This is there way to do what affordably . They need to spend less money. Melissa no, no, no. Yes or no. Right now they have invested hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and a clean coal demonstration project. So not investing money in clean coal but it is not cost competitive. The translation is no, there is not commercially technology to make them work. The kemper plant is highly sensitized demonstration plant that has not even that brought on line no they say it has to go back commercial scale in they even dispose of the liquid co2 that is not usually the case. Melissa now they say there is no way to comply . Receives a you have to invest in the technology. That is other than coal and it is the kill col period it also makes it more expensive to do natural gas and prices will go up. That is false. It is not also say with gap in trade or steep carbon tax. Melissa there are estimates it will raise Energy Prices by 20 percent. For the average person. Regulations over existing plants would potentially raise prices. These proposed rules are over brand new power plants that have not been built in the combined cycle naturalgas power plants can easily meet the new standards set by the epa. That technology is already on line in the United States melissa you both did a great job. As we did learn a lot. The looks like it to be lights out with the eyes of the shutdown of going higher the house passed a temporary spending bill also defunding obamacare it is not expected to pass in the senate but that did not stop the speaker to rally support after the vote. The message is simple the American People dont want the government shut down and they dont want obamacare. [cheers and applause] melissa while they quibbled obama came back swinging speaking to a crowd in the gritty misery. They are actually willing to plunge america into default if we cannot defund the Affordable Care everywhere to threaten default to make sure the americans continue not to have health care. A compromise cannot be reached a government will shut down and without an increase of the debt ceiling u. S. Could start defaulting as early as mid october and judging by a todays events it doesnt look like it is going super well over there. Up next my favorite day of the week, franchise friday we are flipping it on its head as a quick way to make extra cash for school became a business with franchise location in 25 states. Melissa are you ready for franchise friday only this time we bring something completely different we follow the journey of getting into the game but today you hear from the other side someone who blew up their little business in to a franchise. College town calling john started out as to nobodys borrowing of the and thats sort a few years now the fastestgrowing franchise of its kind with me now is one of the hunk himself looking good. I have an image to uphold how did this business get started . It started this summer before the Senior College trying to make extra money we borrowed my moms cargo bay and to move furniture in and clean out the basement recall college hunk hall leading junk we rode a Business Plan it won the larger proportion of competition so that we had corporate jobs in said taken off the plan to make it a reality in from the point it was to become a National Brand franchise was the best way we could franchise as quickly as possible. Melissa if an honorable phenomenal success how old are you . Both great questions. I am 31 years old but i have to keep the young image and the way we represent right now we will do about 20 million with the 49 franchises we are looking to hit 50 soon the goal is to be a 100 million business. Melissa what was that moment they realized it was such a success rather than trying to expand you should franchise to other people . How you come up with that id people franchise for three reasons a lack of money, they lack the resources are there want to grow quickly and we lack of three. Would refer started we had an 800 number routed to the silvery would be driving in answering the phone if they would complain about the driving we would also apologize so we fired ourselves three or four times trying to figure out what to do because we did not know. Then we had to work on the bet of the business and not in the business we could get a second did the third truck then a second location in franchising was the most effective way to expand for those who want to be a business for themselves but not by themselves then go higher the College Students to do the heavy lifting. Melissa to only higher hunk . To make it is in honest, a uniform, a nice a in a Knowledgeable Service it is an acronym. [laughter] they are in uniform and friendly with a smile on their face they are all hunk by that definition. Melissa so smart. He said costs 40,000 which is pretty high for the franchise fee u. S. To me beyond that it takes one headed thousand dollars of working capital is that when hundred included . 100 includes the franchise feat which is slow if you compare compared to a Food Restaurant but with our franchisees are from veterans, at home moms moms, retirees cover recent college graduates, it doesnt matter what stage of life but did you identify with the brand in the core values disservice. Melissa you make 350,000 per year if you have a gross operating margin of 50 . We dont have any more time so you come back to give a vice to our folks up there that are starting their own . Absolutely i will be back anytime you will have me. Melissa we appreciate it. Congratulations on achieving the American Dream that is what were all about. Our hat is off to you. Think you. I appreciate it. Melissa be told you earlier this week about the sec new payroll for foreseeing ceo to compare compensation with average employees and tom sullivan has some thoughts. If this is not codifying class warfare i dont know what you would call it. The sec voted three two for a proposal to require Public Companies to report their ratio of the median wages of all employees with the pay of the ceo. The proponents have said the sole objective is to shame the ceos. Is that where we are writing laws to shame people . To as much as there is the big pay gap i dont think ceos our ashamed of their pay. I hate to oversimplify the overage decade the ceo or other executive pay has always been disclosed to the Financial Statements plus you can look at a profit loss to see how much the employees get paid with the back of the napkin matt you can figure it out. Besides other than the owners of a company, what business is a of the government . By trying down the try to tear down someone elses and shame them does that make you feel better . How does this grow the economy or create one more job . We should be focusing on success instead. Be sure to watch him this weekend saturday and sunday right here on fox business. There is your spare change going . The reporter blowing the lid off the program dont move. You can never have too much money even if it is spare change. [ female announcer ] who are we . Well get this bill that charge right there is your spare change going right to a program ripe with fraud and abuse we have a reporter from the national review. We have all seen this sound bite that they play over and over. Everybody in cleveland has the obama phone. Melissa it was on a new tube but the truth is we have no idea who that person is if shes telling the truth. So you went out to see is that real . I found a ton of stuff i was curious reid knew that this program was ripe with fraud and abuse of 41 percent of the people surveyed more than 6 million had not demonstrated eligibility so was curious if i was not eligible to get one. Them into Welfare Offices and i was able i am not lying,. Melissa you did not . What do you say . You go to the Welfare Office justin in the hillside they will aggressively approach to the stage you have your free phone get . I say no and they say are you on welfare .
