It is up 45 billion and complying be two largest Cable Companies, it is a friendly takeover and what is interesting if you call it a friendly takeover, months of pursuits that time warner, charters left out of the cold and Charter Communications is to the downside. First of all, i am glad you are in florida. The question for all of us is we want Meaningful Health care and they dont want to lose access to their doctors. Last fall, 300,000 floridians were told they would lose their insurance. I am worried about getting my doctor. It is bad for patients. It is bad for taxpayers. I dont want my taxes to go up. I want lower taxes. This bill is not working. The president is delaying it. It shows it is a bad bill. What i am doing here, get people jobs. Cheryl eric cantor issued a statement. Basically, the president has a selective way of breaking apart. It does not help those individuals that still have to have Health Insurance. Are you concerned that this will hurt florida economy . Cheryl, i grew up in a family that struggled for jobs. My dad got his car repossessed. People want jobs. Obamacare needs to be repealed. The president knows its a bad law. There are a number of delays as a result of this, those few flights that are flying will be delayed until the runways are back up and running and airlines repositioning planes to keep them out of the weather in the washington area, need to bring them back and turned around. Should have been recovered soon. It will last throughout the night into tomorrow. We have thousands of boots on the ground keeping up with the backlog on the outages the come in. Adam lets talk about something that gets lost in the discussion about natural gas, fracking and the revolution and natural Gas Production and the cost of natural gas comes down or had been coming down in the cost of producing electricity comes down that puts companies that might produce a great deal of electricity through Nuclear Power at a disadvantage such as exxon. Natural gas has had an impact on the margins for the company. We compete against natural gas. We have natural gas facilities also and we will continue to develop them. The concern that we have now with our Nuclear Facilities is the lack of compensation for the reliability that they provide. We are competing against a natural gas plant that doesnt have a firm or fixed fuel supply. It is not on the yard next to the plant. It is coming down the pipe and the cold weather snap we saw a couple weeks ago those plants could not get all the gas they wanted. It was going towards the home heating. In the Nuclear Plant we load the reactor, put fuel in and we can run 18 months to two years, significant reliable source of power on the grid that should be differentiated in what it receives for compensation. Adam in the free market where the price of gas is volatile depending on supply how does nuclear compete against that and how you keep the Nuclear Power plants running of 20 potential electors the output in the play . We should compete against naturalgas on the energy. The revenue stream we get off of the plant. There are two ways that a plant is compensated in the market. One is for its energy, what it sells they in and day out and we run our plant at 95 capacity. The other way is in system planning or compensated on available capacity. Our capacity is always there. Other sources are not always there and that is where we are pushing to differentiate ourselves in the way we are compensating reliability. Adam help us understand the regulatory authorities which control the pricing, should nuclear be compensated because it is reliable, is there and doesnt fluctuate because of the cold weather. So many advantages, that is a major one. The other is the queen aspect. Nuclear power is 20 of the grid. It is over 60 of the non carbon emitting generation in the stack. Valuable not only reliability, valuable on reliability for the grid but also the environmental support that it provides the country. Florida is dependent on tourism but the Tourism Industry the effect of the health care change and lack of the aca presence in florida or other industries . Hospitality and big retail are feeling the effects of this. Those industries were able to the Affordable Care act, the internet, minimum criteria for fulltime employees covered by certain benefits and others that might have been considered fulltime employees that were not eligible for those benefits. They did not receive those benefits to reducing under parttime cheryl what does it mean for the florida economy. And the lot of these retail dobbs waiters and waitresses and bartenders, 20 hours per week and 30 hour per week jobs. And that specific group of the population in florida, just about younger groups. And health care disaster. Floridas economy is growing legion Palm Beach County a lot of growth which we see in the residential community, we dont have vacancies in the residential communities sucking them moving in a positive direction. The fear index taking a breather and commodities are higher. Oil and gold with the arrows and gold up 3. This major pipeline bringing natural gas from the gulf coast all the way to the northeast but in this case it brings it to kentucky. That pipeline went down early and put a good hit on this market. Add to this the bad weather, the possibility of freeze offs, production issues coming in to play and on top of that todays report, it was stunning. Natural gas supplies fell 12. 3 last week, much more than expected, down 237. That might have been okay, we will see draw downs like this next week and possibly the week after. This is raising concerns about the end season storage at the end of march. It could end up at this rate of 1,000 cubic feet. The market is not sure how quickly we can recover from that drawdown at the end of march especially if we get a hot summer we can only wish for hot. Ashley thank you so much. I will remind everybody half of the countrys natural gas to heat their homes so when we have these frigid temperatures and snow days we are cranking up the heat and seeing greater demand for natural gas and look at that, up 5 in todays trading session. How can we profit from this move . There are a lot of lowcost natural Gas Producers that unlocked the potential we have across the domestic shale plays in the u. S. And some have better Balance Sheets than others and others have survived in this environment. We recently upgraded in conjunction with our more perspectives you on gas is Southwestern Energy, lowcost manufacturers with scale in two Prolific Basins and names we think will outperform its piers. What does this company do . It was predominantly natural gas, the transition their portfolio into a mix of oil and gas. And has been prodding management reporter s instructor. We can see a separation of their midstream assets which we think is goiig to drive multiple expansion. Sandra petro quest energy, you have to make a case for a turnaround, stock is down 12 so far this year but you like it. It is a contrarian devalue name, breadandbutter operations in the gulf coast, they are not in a sexier domestic sale plays be talk about that 70 natural gas, we did think the company will generate 30 million in Free Cash Flow and be able to go double digit production and earnings the next couple years. Sandra natural gas specifically where they see prices go from here . We heard phil mentioned on the Trading Floor concerned that after this cold winter that the end of season storage is going to be depleted for next year. How high could prices go when they are just over 5 . You will see shortterm speights, theres enormous volatility in the short term. 450 is a good longterm proxy. An issue and no one has paid enough attention to is increased gas exports to mexico, several large projects in place could increase exports by 3 to 4 a day which is 76 bcf of lower 48 production. We know supplies are coming primarilyyfrom the appalachian area and ohio. We think theres a more balanced environment. Sandra thank you for joining us. Let me say retail plants, not just our retail clients but retail clients as a whole are sitting on too much cash, they are underinvested in stocks and what we want our clients to do is to take advantage of the school back. We have not had a reasonable one in a while and what we want them doing is to buy stocks in the Consumer Discretionary sector, technology, we like industrials. We want to be in those sectors that sensitive to continuation of the economic recovery and i think things will be better internationally, at least in europe, this year as well. We want them to participate in that. We dont want them to hide in defense of sectors. Sandra you have to make the case to the average investor who sees the here we are in february of 2014 after the first month that the fed started to taper the Stimulus Program stocks went down. Even for those who said the fed didnt drive the market higher in 2013 it looks like it is closely correlated. So the fed keeps capering. Dont stocks keep going down . I tell you, i think the fed had a lot to do with the run we had in stocks last year. Not everything but certainly a significant part and i think the fed will taper at every meeting until this round of q e is over. You have to remember theres a lot of liquidity sloshing around out there. I would argue that really this last round of q e was way less effective than the earlier ones. That is a tough job for us because our clients, many of them have sat on too much cash during this big runup. They are afraid of the market. They are baby boomers. They dont want secede there portfolio down 50 . My job is to try to coax them into the market for lack of a better term. I still think there is a lot of liquidity out there. Janet yellen just like ben bernanke made very clear Interest Rates are going to stay very low for a very long time and this year we are only going to see 2. 4 gdp. We will see a little bit better performance out of europe. We are not modest inflation environment. That is what it has been for several years and will be that way a couple more. Ashley we have been through this last cycle of burning season, getting towards the back end of it. How would you describe the quality of those earnings . We knew for several years that a lot of it was based on reducing the bottom line, cutting down costs but i question the quality of the earnings still. Would you agree . I would say that really, normally, when you are coming out of recession cost cutting is always a big part when you are coming out of a recession and you see big earnings grow 20 or 30 but i agree with you the quality of these earnings have not been as good because companies have continued to cut expenses to avoid hiring. Things like that. If you compare it to other cycles even though we are hitting record high earnings you could say that because of the cost cutting and because of the magnitude and how long it has lasted theres a little less quality to the earnings that they are still definitely eat sandra we got to leave it there. Dow is over 16,000. With an end 2014 . I think the s p 500 we will be north of 1900. Sandra thank you so much. Adam thank you. Charles before i get into that i love to understand the origins of the company. Doctor macready was an amateur cyclist and hang glider and like the recents Peanut Butter cup, this is how it started, his first product started the company, 77, this thing, bicycle with wings, you remember you were probably not born, he bicycled off a cliff and controls that. He lands on time magazine. That was the genesis of this company. They made a lot of money during the war particularly with military contracts, sort of manmade flying machines, drones, similar to drones, Unmanned Aircraft systems. In the same family. That business starting to wind down but so many nonmilitary applications for that, surveillance stuff, fire department, search and rescue, law enforcement, agriculture. You can see the stock responding very well. I also like in the sweet spot with electric vehicle charging stations. We look at tesla which was north of 2 under dollars blowing everyone away. They will need these electric vehicle recharging stations. I love the company and where theyre going, extraordinarily innovative and i like the fact that they are shifting away. I robot significantly lower even though they were losing business on the military side, finding commercial applications. Sandra just over 30, high end of the 52 week range. Charles i like this one. I really like it longterm. I look where they have gone. Theres an amazing commercial opportunity on the other side. There is no military demand for these products. Comcast buying rival Time Warner Cable and a friendly merger valued at 45 billion. Approved the deal would affect the third of all cable customers in the United States for an estimated 33 Million People and it is estimated comcast time Water Company would be the largest cable operator in 19 of the 20 top u. S. Markets including los angeles. New york city, san francisco, washington d. C. Philadelphia, chicago and dallas. Being cable king is one thing. Customer satisfaction is entirely another. Time warner and comcast ranked last in Customer Satisfaction among all Tv Service Providers. This according to the american Customer Satisfaction index . Comcast scored a 63 while Time Warner Cables court 60. Verizon, direct tv and discord higher but not by much. Comcast and time warner both said they are working diligently to improve Customer Service but for now the cable megamerger requires government approval which means it faces intense regulatory scrutiny focusing on whether customers will face less choice, higher prices and reduced competition. The government also has to scrutinize whether the merger could exert outside control on content providers and advertisers and prices of already gone up and the wall street firm ubs says customers can expect cable bills from this merger, 150 on average. Retail sales taking a hit in january, dropping half a percent and missing wall street estimates an worse yet decents numbers were revised lower. Brit, we can blame the weather but only to a point, right . You cant blame weather for december sales first of all. January could be impacting by weather but not to the point where it was. Here are the two factors that hurt january sales and will impact february sales as well. There were 20 fewer gift cards given this year than last year. Over the last seven to eight years, 30 to 33 of sales in january and february come from gift card usage. So when those numbers are down 20 it has huge impact on sales the first two months ever the year. Ashley this reflects weak hiring mode were in right now, a lack of wage gains. Those of course are very important when we talk about Consumer Spending and i dont see that changing anytime soon. So what does that say for the retail space through the rest of the year . Well, my point, february is also dday time for Many Companies because this is when they inform their employ reese how much their Health Care Costs may go up and therefore, the company may be taking more out of their checks beginning february going forward. That may be as many as 18 of workers may find they have less in their paycheck than they did a year ago. So here, you have all the factors playing a role and youve got also almost 40 of americans saying someone in their home is either lost their job or moved to a parttime job. So all the factors are playing a very negative force on Consumer Spending which is why retail sales in december were so weak. Ashley so from a retailers perspective, what can they do . Offer more sales and promotions in that just takes more from their bottom line. Thats true but on the other hand your margins might be a little bit lower. Remember one thing, if you dont get consumers in the front door, you go from being retail store, to retail museum. You want to keep in mind retailers will have to sharpen their pencils, be more aggressive on promotions, thats correct. If they are not aggressive they will see fewer and fewer shoppers. Ashley rest of this year you see main inning a very flat level maintaining . I think it will be tough. You will see a strong president s day weekend as long as it doesnt get snowed out. We had surges on president s day and those numbers surge dramatically over memorial day weekend. These are peak times that help the month a little bit. Keep in mind, i give you a statistic. 10 years ago sales on president s day represented 11 of february sales. Last year it was 40 of february sales. If you look at sort of the background here, it is fascinating. Comcast has Something Like 130 billiondollar company. The next largest is Something Like, i think disney at about 130. Were next, twentyfirst century fox at about 70. There are a bunch others. And what they think, what people are saying watch how fast and or how slow it goes through the regulatory process. If it goes through the regulatory process and a lot of people believe it will be approved. That is done deal. Brian roberts gave a lot of money to the obama administration. Ashley greased the wheels . Heavily greased the democratic party. He hired an fcc person as lobby it, the same fcc person sandra there you go. Look at those numbers. Look at those numbers. Look what comes after that. What i keep hearing is that, that if this thing goes through, what bankers are telling me, look for more consolidation and and one name i keep hearing directv and dish. If you go further down the list, dish is, directv, what does that say, 37 billion market cap . Ashley yeah. Dish is a little further down. A couple down and it is around i would say about 25 billion. But you know ashley 65, moves it up. That is what people are saying. These companies that are left clearly there is going to be some more merger, some more activity, particular if i if the regulatory, if it looks like these guys get through on the regulatory issue. Sandra dish is 26 billion. What did i say 25 . Sandra whatever. In that range. So it is interesting. You know, this is obama administration, regulatory apparatus that did not like nasdaq going after the new york Stock Exchange. Maybe that is because bob greifeld didnt grease the wheels as much as brian roberts, head of comcast. Brian roberts has given a lot of money to obama. He is, this is a company that is very close to the current administration. And you know, when you fire hire the fcc person that approved comcast purchase of nbc, you have to think you havehe has a wink and nod. Sandra there is severe backlash from the public. Liz macdonald reports that prices are going up as a response to this. I dont know im ashley generally bad for the consumer. Generally but, listen, we have three Cable Companies. There are places in the United States where there is one. I understand that there is no, lack oo competition in certain markets but i just wonder if that is going to be an impediment . I know comcast has already laying the groundwork where it is saying listen, the competitive nature of this is not that big of a deal. So heres my point. If, when this thing gets approved, depending on speed it gets approved watch for mergers. That will be a signal that the bar has been lowered. Ashley what about malone . I keep hearing malone is not done yet. As you know, charter, we did a whole segment a couple weeks ago i was kind of right. I said time warner will sell. They will up the bid. Ashley youre right. But i thought charter would up the bid because my sources were saying that charter had the, sort of, the birds eye ashley catbird seat. Catbird seat with this and comcast really didnt want all the different markets these guys have. By the way, comcast will get out of some markets to appease regulators to make this thing work. That didnt happen. I was half right. They clearly upped the bid. They had to sell. Time warner is a screwed up company. They needed to sell. No doubt its shareholders, they would be failing their, heir board ashley makes sense for comcast . You know. Ashley that is the big question. Getting bigger usually makes sense. I tell you this is so big, if you look at that chart, it is scary. Those guys, they are, look at the next largest when you get out of disney . It is far down the list. It is actually scary. I think they have greased the wheels. They will get through. Sandra comcast had to cut customers. They had to shrink market share. Subscribers. I have to admit, im a deal guy. I do care about deals. Im not an expert at cable. I can tell you this. I understand politics. Brian roberts has greased the wheels in washington. If this thing doesnt get through, i think sandra not only saying it will go through with federal regulators, you will say it easily will go through. It should. All the money. All the lobbyists. You hire the person that was, that was the fcc chief as your lobby it that approved your last deal. If that doesnt do it than what would . Watch the speed of it. They actually closed every runway at Reagan National and Dulles Airport. No planes can take off or land because of heavy snow and sleet and drifts. A total of more than 6100 Flights Canceled across the u. S. Today, many of them in the north and southeast where problems with power continue as well. You see the dark blue . Those are heavy snow band moving through pennsylvania up through new england. Down through long island, new york, philadelphia, d. C. , transition to rain. All three cities are recording rain. That means the snowfall totaling will not increase short term. Well see snowfall later tonight. Next couple hours were looking at rain and snow compacting turning into that slushy mess which is still very slick on the roads and will cause problems that way. At least well not get a lot more snow falling right now. Look at 4 00 today,. Well see snow coming back in towards d. C. By 7 00 well see next batch of snow towards philly. New york looking to rain by 10 00 or 11. That will switch. We see one last burst of snowfall. By the time when it is done well see two to three inches in spots from philadelphia to new york. Boston sill see another seven or so. Interior sections will all see snow. That means their snowfall totals will be up to around 18 inches. A big storm, guys across part of the northeast again.
