Mcdowell joins us on this hour of markets now. Dagen a quick news alert for you, Whitey Bulger will not be testifying in his own trial. I read by the same, incredible story, incredible trials, but he will not be testifying. Connell a lot more to talk about on jobs. Dagen 152,000 jobs added in july, 22,000 jobs short of expectations. The Unemployment Rate fell. Nicole petallides on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange with disappointment. Nicole you got these job numbers in, it was a disappointment. We are seeing the Market Selling off. This idea weaker jobs means good news, the fed will keep their bond buying in placee ultimately look, it is the weekend, were getting out, the market at record highs this weekend, the Dow Jones Industrials down 61 points. In addition to the job numbers, fewer people are bothering to look for jobs because they are so frustrated and fed up. Some names lagging including chevron, coke cola and more. Connell the head of finance group at black rock. Good to see you. Everything else i hear is mediocre, what do you think of this report in terms of what it means for your world . Speak a look at jobs data, the collection of jobs data you see, the market is getting better, the economy is trying to heal. The economy is slow. Dagen highyield did seem to hold up better than other higheryielding category. The highyield market is less sensitive to the Interest Rate move. They do well when the economy is improving. We like highyield market. Dagen i do have a question about that because it has been so narrow for highyield overinvestment rate corporate debt, does no that mean that wot be the case Going Forward as Interest Rates continue to rise you wont get that spread compression, and upside return in highyield in normally would have got in different times in the past . Certainly have in 2009, 2010. The spread was not tight, the yield was at an alltime low. We continue to see some spread compression in the highyield market continues to do well. Connell they were not really taking off. Any more dynamic kind of shifting events that you see in general that could changeoutlooe really moving or now we are worried about this . It seems like we are steady for whatever reason for a while. It is about sustainability. In the last five years we have been worried about bigger to the downside. A lot of Balance Sheets are improving. Government is starting to improve. Connell some people come in here, there is a big on the way. You dont see anything terrible on the horizon, it will continue to be . You have to l biggest is thes policy, volatility around, events around in the short term there may be more going through a fed transition or a debate in congress, those are things that can cause volatility. The economy overall is improving, which means there is less risk. You are seeing more stable 2 growth. Dagen what about the fixed income funds, have you seen them . It has kind of been a shock for many investors for shortterm losses on article he treasury funds. When you look at fixed income as a whole, had to fix it down to what kind of fixed income you are. One that we have been talking about and continuing to see it in the bank loan product. Those are not really focused on the duration sensitivity of Interest Rates. We do see the yield curve continuing, but the economy is improving. Connell good to see you. Dagen a number of parttime workers hitting a record 28. 2 million in july, so president obamas Health Care Law part of the blame . Lets bring in a senior economic writer at the wall street journal. Good to see you. Step back and look at this overall jobs picture, it is not great that it is not horrible. There is a big scandal in baseball right now with steroids. We are not growing the way we should be. I have been wrong on this, we are seeing some healthy growth right now. This is very discouraging. Dagen steroids is more stimulus, that is something during the speeches. I am not much more Government Spending. One of the things interesting in this report is the last couple of years Government Employment has been down. For the first time no negative in Government Employment. This is all just a week private sector hiring and i do think there is a link to the obamacare law, but i think it is just employers are so uncertain about anywhere the economy is headed and what is the next shoe to drop in washington, d. C. Dagen do you think that will last until the next president ial election . What businesses will start to catch onto is washington is kind of benign, not a lot is getting done. He has not been able to have the onslaught of policies as he had with obamacare, the stimulus bill, cash for clunkers, so still remain optimistic about the second half of this year Government Spending is falling and i think that is a good thing for the economy, not a bad thing. You look at these numbers, and you really hit it on the nose. When you have employers hiring but half of the jobs created over the last few months have been into industries bid those are not high paying jobs. Dagen i got in trouble for talking about people who were taking money and living off of the government. Because i made some comment over the weekend on cavuto is hurt someones selfworth and i still stand by you are not supporting yourself, to ultimately damage someones selfworth, but do you worry about people who have been completely and permanently removed from the labor force because of the rise and greater availability of food stamps in this country. I dont think theres any question about it the big expansion of food stamps, Unemployment Insurance and disability, which has had a huge increase, those programs have reduced peoples selfworth. What people want to do is get up in the morning, have a job and do something productive. But if youre out of the workforce for one year, two years, three years, youre losing your job skills, your employability and Holding People out of the workforce through unemployment is a big negative for the economy and one reason we have seen record low label participation dash labor force per dissipation rate back to where it was in the early 1970s after big gains in the 1980s in the reagan and clinton years. Dagen i am not saying people dont want to work, but i worry people will never reenter the workforce, that is all. We had a president who thinks these are stimulus programs. He thinks they stimulate the economy when they do just the opposite, they contracted. Dagen thank you. Next month we promise we will get better numbers. Dagen thank you, steve. Connell another big story today involving dell. Reaching an agreement with michael dell over his proposed buyout to take the Company Private. Dagen that is where we find in round rock, texas, adam shapiro. Adam you talk about millionaire moguls and billionaire bullies at the end of the day it is about the shareholders who are going to have to decide if a deal at 13. 75 per share with dividend at 0. 13 and a guarantee of an 0. 08 dividend in the Third Quarter is sweet enough to pass this deal. The new date of record will be in august and then of course confuse me, september 10 and we will have a special meeting for the vote on all of this september 12. Joining me is one of the shareholders who doesnt think this is such a great deal. You have 7075 shares, youre looking to take 160,000 hit if it is approved. Obviously it is a bad deal for you, why will you try to get people to say no to this . It is not a good deal for me or other shareholders. I think michael dell is trying to steal the stock away from them and we wont have any say in it. Adam strong words when you say still the stock. It is not worth even 14 per share, what do you say to them . Others have said it is worth 22, 23. It depends who you talk to. He has filed litigation to keep the board of directors and the committee from doing that. I am with carl icahn, i believe he can turn it around. I am with him. Adam im going to wrap up real quick, what is a message to shareholders across the United States if dell closes . To me, they have two up the ante, little bit of dividends, that will not cut it with me. Adam thank you very much. We will be here all day talking to shareholders. Back to you. Connell interesting to hear from people like that. Small shareholders. Burnt out on battery life . Google claiming they have the answer for you. We will talk about it and if it will be a new answer coming up. Dagen and you can customize it. Kids sanity. Sacrificing privacy to live with their parents. And it is all about the money. Connell isnt it always . And arod. Tearing up the minor leagues. The battle is actually in the dugout. Not the front office, talking about players versus players. Players who can get rich on all of this coming up. A quarter million tweeters musicare tweeting. Eamed. And 900 Million Dollars are changing hands online. Citizens face the potential for terror attacks particularly in the middle east and north africa. Saying these information exists that al qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terror attacks both in the region and beyond. Connell a number from an unspecified threat. Linkedin continues to be a winner. Membership up 37 in the second quarter. How is it doing, nicole . Nicole a number that has wowed wall street, take a look at what the stock is doing today hitting new highs. Revenue jumped 59 , robust membership growth and highly popular mobile apps and the website as well up in the. 5 right now. That is great news. Take a look at Time Warner Cable, under some pressure couple of stories circulating. Down 2. 3 . The two stories we are watching very closely in conjunction with time warner. There is a deadline for today, cbs stations will go dark in the major cities coupled with a possible merger with charter, a rivalry to time warner. The stock is to the downside. Connell things, nicole. Dagen time to make money with Charles Payne. Connell we love when you talk about 3d printing. Charles it is interesting because your last two stories are why i like this. Talking about dell, linkedin. I still have subscribers in it, the strategist. It is a volatile stock and the stock on the cusp of a major breakout. With manufacturing, they are on the cusp of it. They had news ups putting in 3d printers, but the big news is on the industrial side. Ultimately 150 stock. The caveat here is it is extraordinarily volatile. Anybody willing to deal with that kind of volatility will be richly rewarded. Connell appreciated. Dagen connell mentioned it a short while ago, the first handheld that motorola has come out with since it was bought a google and made in the usa. Connell you can talk to it. More twentysomethings living with mom and dad, moving back in after college. All kidding aside, this is a big money story and we have a debate in terms of the reason for this trend coming up. But first, a look at currencies around the world. Faring against the dollar. With the spark cash card from capital one. Boris earns unlimited rewards for his Small Business. Particularly for the middle east and north africa and basin information suggesting al qaeda is planning attacks in the region and beyond. Learners will continue through august 31. This comes as u. S. Announced it will temporarily shut down several countries on sunday including those in egypt, iraq and afghanistan. State department citing terror related concerns in the closings are out of an abundance of caution. President obamas plan september summit with Weidner Putin is now in doubt after russia granted a oneyear asylum for Edward Snowden. The white house says president has not made a final decision whether or not to cancel the trip. Those are your headlines. Connell thanks. Talking about this for the next couple of minutes we mentioned earlier, all day battery life, and it listens to your voice. You dont even have to touch the phone. Available august, early september. You get the google motorola combination. The question is companies coming out with cool phones all the time, even library sometimes. Wilwhat anybody by this one . Dagen i say yes. You can customize it. It does not sound like that much. With this phone there is heavy customization. At one point he might even be able to get a backing with wood on it. I think there is an audience out there, people like the android operating system. Connell fo will this set the te for another company to copy sort of what they are doing . Dagen possibly. The reason they can do it, the reason google can do this is because they are assembling in the United States. That is a reason to buy it. Turning a controversy into profit. The Rolling Stones magazine cover generate enough outrage that retailers refused to sell the issue in their stores. People still snapped it up. Sales doubled from the average issue sales for the last year. According to the magazine information network. Figures were based on pointofsale data for more than 1400 retailers from july 19 through the 29th. Does that really surprise you . Connell not at all. He put the guy on the cover, he will start controversy. Dagen and yesterday said people within Rolling Stones were shocked on the outrage over it, but you knew exactly what you are doing and got the exact same result he wanted. People were talking about it and people wound up buying it. Did you read the article . Connell i did not. Dagen it was well reported that a little too sensitive to one of two people who allegedly killed people and blew up bombs at the boston marathon. A little too touchyfeely. Connell emptynesters becoming a rare bird. More and more twentysomethings are staying home. The numbers out on this. We will talk about the trend as we continue coming up here in just a moment. Dagen the drug war in baseball is a money were starting between the players. Connell will get into that. Connell it should be good. We look at the suspensions today or maybe monday. We will be right back on markets now. Clients are always learning more to make their money do more. ann to help me plan my next move, i take scottrades free, inbranch seminars. No. [ male announc ] share more. Save more. At t mobile share for business. Connell at the half hour, heres what we have coming up on markets now. Sacrificing the penance for money or just looking for a job . More and more twentysomethings staying at home with mom and dad. And we will talk about arod. The real story about baseball and drugs is the money war going on with the players in the dugout, player versus player. And American Idol trying to hit the high note once again with jlo . Coming up for you. Dagen a lot more on that. Weight watchers dropping more than pounds. Share take a huge hit after the Company Reported dismal quarterly results. What are the shares doing right now . Nicole having a very tough time, so take a look at the stock today down nearly 20 . There are two stories running rounding weight watchers. The fundamental business which they had to cut their profit forecast, facing tough competition. You can see it popping up in 2011 only to see it dropping to a multiyear low. Profit forecast are low. And also the mobile apps, there are free apps to lose weight and dont need to go to weight watchers, they are facing intense competition from those free apps and i dont mean to have left this for last, but the ceo of the company has resigned as of july 30, he has run this company and effective doing so for many years. It is a big deal to pursue other opportunities. Back to you. Connell thank you. A pretty interesting number we have talking about the economy. Discussing Unemployment Rate down last month. How does this impact young people trying to make it . 36 of adults 1831 still living with their parents last year. The highest percentage we have seen people doing this, in nearly 40 years. A former press secretary to al gore in st. Louis, and founder of the st. Louis tea party, radio talkshow host. Great to have you. Why do you think this is happening . People moving back in with mom and dad so much. If you look at the numbers more closely, the average person were talking about his 21, 22, maybe even 23yearolds who graduated College Looking at their parents place as a bit of a way station before they enter the workplace. Also some society reasons for this happening. My mother graduated college she immediately that some are married my dad, moved in with him and a lot of their friends did the same. Not so much of that anymore. People are waiting longer to get married and some of these people are still in school, waiting a little longer to get their degree. Connell essentially arguing this is a choice, not because the economy is weak, they want to do this, they want to move in with mom and dad. Is it a choice, do you think . I dont really think it is a choice so much anymore. One of the things we have done is we have heard from a lot of millennials who feel they dont really have a choice. Lets look at it this way, these are going to have even less of a choice because you are talking about people who are the only last hope of obamacare being solvent, which is why you see this administration going out to sell obamacare to these millennials that will be required to sign up for this to make this program solvent. I dont know anyone who has 1700 2000 lying around for premiums to pay for unaffordable subpar government care. That will have an even larger impact. 53 of College Graduates cannot find a job, they spent all this money getting great degrees, but afterwards what di do they haveo show for it . It is going to get worse and worse as these politics kick in. Connell im not sure that specific survey would make sense, but a number of people that get out of college and would like to work, you would concede that point that has something new with an economy not growing the way we should. Not everybody wants to go back to live with their parents. Absolutely. A number of people looking for a job as they get out of college and are not finding them. Connell we need to help this group more or let it work itself out. There is plenty we should be doing, but the fact is there is this myth of the middleaged guy throwing out a resume in frustration because he cannot find a job leaving the workforce in droves. That is not really the case. The number leaving the workforce right now is lower than it was at the 2001 election. Morehat re lkinabout he, th coege stent takg on more before they get into it. Connell one more point before we wrap this up. That was a usa today poll released last year with the lack of employment, but we have a superhigh workforce participation low, that is why unemployment numbers ok t way at ty arbecae fer pelepartipatg inhe woforc i el b forillnial. Dagen talking about arod, his fight for the baseball life, between the players themselves. Connell lets talk about the economics behind that and American Idol as well. How about ringing jlo back. Pif mail, maybe another way the government is watching what you are doing. And, take a look at how treasuries are holding up. Of course, the yield is lower, bonds rallying a little bit on a worse than expected job numbers. [ male announcer ] how do you get your boue . Com connell the latest developments on the story we have been following throughout the week, that is the Alex Rodriguez and Major League Baseball, lots of money on the line. Talks underway with his lawyers trying to cut a deal with Major League Baseball to avoid a lifetime suspension over his alleged drug use. No announcements to pass along just yet, but the real battle is actually a money war being waged inside the dugout. The chair department of health sciences, he joins us now. And noted author on baseball economics joining us on these topics in the past. Good to have you back on this one. You think it is player versus player is how the steroids debate should or is coming down. Exactly. Players competing against each other in the freeagent market. If you perform that are then your peer, you will get more money on the freeagent market. Players of equal quality, the one that does not use loses out on salary while the other one has to take and suffers the health consequences. Players really wants to crack down on steroid use now. Connell we talked about it for a number of different areas this week. Having the incentive to take a shot so you can make it to the big time and the amount of money thats differential is so huge forget about the morals, but the economics, it is worth it for them, is there any way in your view made to the market, is there any way to change that . Would a lifetime ban change that . Certainly be able to test people and have harsher penalties would decrease incentive to use, but the problem with a lifetime ban is false positives. Theyre worried about that were going to test positive for drug you did not take even if you are clean. The people who propose lifetime bans are not understanding science. False positives are going to happen and we are just going to have to deal with it. It is unfortunate, but we try and deal with it. I think it is too severe and difficult to push this through because even the players who should be allies on fighting performanceenhancing drugs will not be for that at all. Connell these negotiations between his representatives and Major League Baseball are considering. There is a report they are still far apart and apparently stuck because arod wants to make sure he can cash in on at least some of the 100 million still owed to him. If he is suspended, the yankees dont pay him, he doesnt get paid. Maybe it is not so much that Alex Rodriguez wants to play again, he wants to get the money he signed up for. I wonder how that will add up. That is a huge part of the drug suspensions. Ryan braun gave up several Million Dollars the figures pr wise that was a better fit. Who knows what is going on, but i can understand arod wanting to secure his financial future because you look at the amount of money Baseball Players make. They have investments, certain things set up, they have cost they have to cover. Is it realistic consequence although im not sure how may people are sympathetic. Connell oh, man, really, arod will not get his 100 million . A good take on all of this. Different from what we have been talking about. Thank you for joining us. Again, chair to the fiscal education. A good book on baseball economics. Dagen the jobs report has home traders saying there is no way the Federal Reserve can start pulling back on the on buying concept. Good to see you. I thought the Market Reaction might not even th be negative today, it was the jobs report was a little bit late but that would hearten people the fed would keep the free and easy money coming. Good news for the market, bad news for the economy which we got today. Those job numbers were a lot weaker than we expected, i thought, and coming into this today, the numbers look good, going on a nice trend, but this number today, the earnings are down, the only real number up was 988,000 plus a million workers just gave up, they are not even looking. Dagen thank you for that analysis. I hope you have a good weekend. Connell were going to talk about this American Idol story. The scope i had from dennis kneale. Dagen we hate that, people not getting along. Some of the winners and losers today on the nasdaq. You know throughout history, folks have suffered from frequent heartburn. Butetting heartburn and then treating day after day is a thing of the past. Block the acid with prilosec otc, and dont get heartburn in the first plplace. Connell simon cowell has been in the headlines, congratulations to him becoming a father. Dagen by the wife of one of his friends. New host, cheaper price. It has been cut to 1 million because simon says it places too much pressure on the artist. He will be saving 4 million on that. Britney spears and l. A. Reid are leaving the show. She is a decent post. I like this bite from simon cowell sang the changing of host is like having a dinner party. Invite people for dinner and sometimes it is fun and sometimes it is not as fun as he thought it was going to be leading us into American Idol. Dagen do you think it will help ratings he has been in the press even if it is to father a child . He was asked about it. Any publicity is good publicity. Dagen he wont talk about it. He wasnt angry. Nobody ever has to answer anything. Connell tell us about American Idol. Of the four judges, only one is coming back. The 13th season, nicki minaj, mariah carey, and Randy Jackson all leaving. Executive gone. Ratings this year versus last, and kevin reilly, the chief entertainment chief of fox broadcast says he wants to refocus attention on the contestants, the point is this catfight between nicki minaj and mariah carey make it about themselves rather than the new kids. And cbs, time warner, cbs goes dark unless time warner pays a fat fee. How much, how fast . We will see. So far no updates. It would be embarrassing to extend it this time. If you cannot get your act together now, go dark, lets go to war. Connell we were talking about this earlier. Dagen big change, Seth Mcfarland to ellen. He needed to knock it out of the park. She is the opposite of rosie odonnell. Ellen is nice, very funny. She did the show a few years ago. Dagen hollywood does not want snarky, they want people who coddle them and make you feel lovely. Fabulous and beautiful and wonderful. Speak with you tonight is about celebrating hollywood. Otherwise it gets too much. Dagen the audience sitting in the theater can handle her like Billy Crystal was. Connell beating out a number of finalists including don imus. Dagen he would be like i am tired, halfway through the show. Connell and he would insist on wearing a cowboy hat. Much more as we go through the next hour. As they do get out in a fox business summer time showdown. Looking to crown the best stock today one of these men will advance to the next round. Dennis at the top of the hour, stocks every 15 minutes. All about that employment report. The u. S. Added 160,000 jobs in july. The lowest number since march of this year. The gains or enough to drive the unemployed rate down to just under seven and a half . A four and a half year low in part because 240,000 people left the work force entirely. Lets bring in Nicole Petallides of the near stalker shake Stock Exchange with a look at how the markets are reacting to these numbers. Reporter im glad you through that in there because you see fewer people looking for jobs. So frustrated at this point. The Dow Jones Industrials sitting at 15,603 after we had the alltime record highs this week. Down just 24 points at the moment. Raceme the dollar lower, but those jobs numbers not only was this month a tough one, but the fact that the prior two months, revised and a negative manner same fewer jobs. So you can see, it has not been obviously a great run. That being said, we do see some names on the move and some that are doing great today such as dell and linkedin, yelp, facebook, aig, just to name a few. Continue to watch the other names in the cable industry because Time Warner Cable vision, some of the names rear watch it on the back half of the day as well. Cheryl all right. Thank you so much. Joining us now with more reaction to these numbers, round three summertime showdown contestants, Matt Mccormick and robert luna. Welcome back to both of you. You know, you say that the Unemployment Rate is a big factor for you, but how todays report chains start treating you. Well, as a matter of fact it really just confirms our we have been saying all along. Growing right now, but it is not anything that is on fire, so i think that is why in bernanke came out a couple of days ago and it was kind of the status quo. I dont think there will be raising rates anywhere as quick as people saying. When you look at where rates are, stocks will still catch a bid. You see a day like today. I thought if we came out with the jobs number above consensus you would have seen a selloff in the market, but to be down 20 or 30 points is not a big deal and d. C. The fear index down today. Not a lot of nervousness, and we will continue to catch a bid in equities. Cheryl people will be buying in. Also, a little bit of profittaking. That tiny bit. Also he just mentioned the fear index down about 6 percent, something that you thought was going to go higher after todays report if it was bad news. What is going on . Really a lot of people are at the beach and there is really, even though this is mildly disappointing, you know, the market is really not selling off that much. I agree that when you look at this number, the economy is growing a little bit. The market had a high number and would have selloff more in anticipation of capering. When people say this is a weak number, i disagree because of that was the case the market will be stuck skyrocketing. Right now they are at a waitandsee approach. Volatility will pick up. This was a disappointing announcement. A lot of growth including 38,000 jobs in restaurants and our workers. I like going out to eat and drinking beer, but nothing that will grow the economy. Cheryl their will talk about the economy in the second, but from a market perspective of wondering what this means for consumer staples. He made a great point. The highest hiring was in retail and our jobs. Really at the end of the day those people are making enough money to juice the economy. From a market perspective, consumer staples, even some of your financial names, robert, might be under pressure if we dont get job growth. I agree, and i think in this market this is where you want to take that type of approach. And the big head wind out there is what will be going on with Interest Rates which will direct and be correlated exactly with what is going on with the economy. Cheryl and the bank and the housing sector as well. Those stocks have been on a tear. I agree. I think financials could be under pressure and they are seeing that today as we continue to get weakened economic data. That is why you want some allocation of those in your portfolio in case things pick up, but at the same time you want to have a barbell pros were you have less economically sensitive stocks in your portfolio as well. I caution people as far as getting to overweight because there are over evaluations. Cheryl what do you say to that . I agree with robert and thing selective stock picking will be what is in order. You want to have some exposure to economic growth, but you want to have downside protection. You will be surprised that we like the dividends. We dont like the big deals. We think between three and four percentage will be sought out. We look at the market right now people pay a premium for organic growth, especially when it is difficult. Only a looking in a market, optimistically complaisance. Cheryl pointing up the fact, little more bullish than that. Provisions for may and june. The good of mark the market as a matter of itself. They have not been so hot. I agree. I would not necessarily categorize myself as overly bullish. A decline. A bottoms up stock picker. Really see what type of management is able to execute an environment. The stock is being rewarded. Woodshed and christ. If you want to be a stock picker, not just buying the broad market index. Cheryl ice hence the summertime showdown. Want to ask you about technology. Look at the jobs report and a lot of these Lower Service sector jobs. We are not seeing engineering, not seeing even decent manufacturing jobs coming in at this point which tells me that technology could be something to kind of watch and not in a getaway. It is easy to hire a Technology Services firm are software. When you look at, with respect to obamacare, people will be reluctant to hire unless they can be immediately accredited to a companys bottom line. Easier to hire some type of tac related service that is cheaper from a stock perspective. Youre looking at low debt, low dividend payout ratio, freak flash cash flow and opportunity to add to the bottom line. I am most optimistic about technology. Cheryl all right. We will leave it there for now. You will both be back later when we will see who will advance to the next round of the fox business summer time showdown. We have the results coming up and about 30 minutes for all of the. Dennis and then there was one. Sticking with the big news of the day, joining us, a fox business Charles Payne end euler hermes chief economist dan north. Three numbers i want you to discuss. 340,000, the number of people who left the work force, 146,000, the number of people here to parttime jobs and only a hundred and 60,000, new jobs. This is a horrible jobs report. Yap. And in one word it really is not a very good jobs report. The headline which is 162,000 which is disappointing enough. Way below the two modern 50,000 we need to grow the economy, but you are right. You scratch below the perp service, of those people leaving their jobs force. That is what drove the Unemployment Rate down. That is really masking the weakness in the economy. Hours going down and which is going down. The wage earner for the year now is low inflation. Still, this tremendously high duration of unemployment. It is a pretty disappointing report for sure, and it is certainly not the kind of substantial improvement in the labor market that has been talked about. Dennis 106,000 people taking parttime jobs. Do you think if you have 50 employees, it hit by obamacare. I dont get to buy it. No doubt that that plays a huge role in this. You know, so many other things. Temporary work, the trend is going down. Typically historical whenever temperatures go up thats a good sign for the future because Companies Bring them on temporarily. Deasy of things are going in and a convert them to fulltime. That wont happen biggest in jobs are fading away. The wages, i think that is a big thing. 824. 99 per week down from 828 just one month ago. You know, people need money to sustain an economy. At this rate people are going to dip into savings to start using credit which opens up a whole other catalog problems. It. Dennis this savings rate is dropping because income went down the spending went up. What do you think about that ankle . That was the other important report, personal consumption expenditures. Taxes over the past year, their up 13 percent over the past year that is really eroding disposable personal income down to just over half a percent. That is hardly going to fuel consumption. Consumption is weak enough over the past quarter. You disposable personal income that week. That is a real drag on the consumer in the economy. I was going to say, theres a social element to this. You know, people people of the last couple of years have changed their way. We dont save for college or home ownership. We save to spend money and have a cash reserve in case all hell breaks loose. Todays report Participation Rate was interesting. I went back to 1970 and could not find participation this low. It has been free falling. Dovetails with other things that have been coming out this week. A country that is in serious economic malaise and as more less given up. If people dont buy into the notion that this economy can reund,t cnot denn d i now the adstraon wan to t ti tarefo tosing ainall forctual jobs. Employs wi havto te that aneloy re pple. A jo sll mismatch, people going out of the work force because they can because their government benef then you have this uncertainty coming up with this debt ceiling argument which will bring the grand bargain argument back up. The two sides never going to meet on that. The political argument will be ugly again coming up in the fall was again this going to weigh on uncertainty in the consumer. Dennis did hear what he said . He talked about government benefits helping people leave the workforce. Disability up huge. Food stamps of puce almost 50 million people. What do you say . Listen to my have been secured. This might get me on the daily show again. As serious objective to make poverty comfortable enough that people did not escape it. Whether it is free cell phones, crazy listen, i know people 27 years old you walk into the office and say, this economy is driving me not. They cant work. They get a check. They brag about the check. The food stamps, the cell phones. All of this stuff on telling you right now, stay on your parents insurance until your 27. It does not help people in the long run. Dennis rapid up. I could not agree more. We need a social safety net. There is no question about that. People need help, but you have benefits that a big going on for two years in many states, and the studies on both the left and right to prove that these tremendous amounts of benefits are an incentive to stay unemployed. Dennis back to the old uk. Thank you for being with us. Thank you. Cheryl aig, a poster child of the financial meltdown. Not delivering the first dividend to shareholders since the 2008 collapse. Investors and bin traders not liking the jobs report today, but less talk of what happened last night. Let me show you a couple of things. The dallin what happened over the last six months. Now were seven months into the year as youre well aware. A new record high for the dow last night. And you had a new record for the s p as well. Take a look at all of this. Give you pause here to show you that the first seven months of the year have been incredibly strong for stocks and of course for the markets. The map. The spray and Nicole Petallides on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange watching a id. The stalking another new high. Reporter pretty interesting to watch. Well remember the old 2008 bailout of aig. Aig, wiped out by bert derivatives during the financial crisis. Here it is now coming out with new numbers for the latest quarter. There were good ones at that. Coupled with the fact that theyre doing a dividend and share buyback. So obviously great news for aig shareholders. The stock today is up about 2 . Shares are hitting a new high this year for 2013, up 36 . And obviously this is a really big deal for shareholders are glad to see it doing well of the way it is. The company also still in talks about selling its aircraftt3 leasing unit to a Chinese Consortium after missing a deadline in july. That may be a nearly 5 billion deal. Theres a lot going on, but i think that the big day story is the fact that the First Capital return sinng this dividend and a share buyback. Its a big deal. Cheryl nicole, really quick, volatility. The guys are making of this on the floor because you have the fear index down 6 , yet the market is lower. What are they saying . Reporter what is really interesting. The vix at 12 is somewhat interesting, not really a market moving event at the moment. And right now we are just watching this market, which is not too far off of the unchains line. You dont want to read into it too much at the moment. Certainly is evident that 6 percent is a decent move, something that we will keep an eye on. And the 10year treasury is something to watch closely. The site yesterday. Right now just over two and a half yield on that one. Cheryl all right. See you at the bottom of the hour. Thanks. Dennis the july unemmloyment rate coming in it actually came in lower than forecasted. According to Research Firm from the San Francisco fed, it could be a lot more if only washington were better at doing its job. Jeff flock is live in lake in the hills, illinois, with a Business Owner who like many would like to see better policy at a d. C. Reporter we love to give these people a voice because when you come out and talk to real Business Owners, just what the San Francisco fed had to say is exactly what Business Owners like this man have to say. It does not surprise you that you dont feel the fed felt that they dont have leaders in washington. If it was better the Unemployment Rate might drop by a percentage point more. We have a ship at sea without a captain. It is it does not have recourse. And it is it does not know where is going. Reporter the numbers, the unemployed rate dropped lower than it has been at any point in the obama administration. Is that good news to you . Jeff, that ship is still at sea, and it has no captain. It is good to see it drop a little, yes, but are those really the employment numbers . Reporter how was going to say, six numbers, an important one. Take a look. You essentially make teflon. Tommy what you do . Manufactured teflon coated fiberglass. Reporter because of regulation in washington and Economic Policy you have had to add employees in the air charter Paul Department you never had to have before. No, we did not. We never had that department. We have it now with in the last ten years. And it makes reporting on a Small Company burden. Reporter and going to ask you. You have the floor. What do you want to tell washington . Is it just the president , the administration, congress . I would like to tell them to look at Small Businesses. We need help. We dont need the burdensome regulations, but we needed direction, and we need to be able to feel confident that this country is going to grow and our products are going to be sold land continue to be sold. Reporter that would help you create jobs. That would help me create jobs, yes. Reporter this is where jobs are created, folks. We like to give them a voice. Dennis all right. You have done that. Copper on the other hand, all of that economic optimism. Not only in china and the United States. The pullback as well. So a big disappointment on the number. Now, the other thing you have to look at, you always have collected geopolitical risk which can be a big factor. Obviously with this report of morning by the state department, that may even put more support in see the market later in the day. The big move after the jobs report, obviously with that situation with the tbond market and the did trading being halted for a few seconds. Now, what happens sometimes, actually a safety valve built into the globex system that when you get an imbalance of water it would move the market down and caused the cascading effect on stocks. You know, to pause to make sure it is a valid situation. So we actually probably save the market for not making a more dramatic move to the downside and probably it was a good thing. Of course, traders had orders and at that particular time. Probably not too happy about it, but is definitely coming at a bad time, right before the jobs report. Michael dell created this company back in 1984 in his dorm room and continues to fight it out and battle let out along with silverlake partners couple together verses carl icahn, but now with a new agreement that includes a special dividend of 0. 13 per share along with an offer. Thirtyseven plus this dividend. So its certainly trying to sweeten the deal in order to cleanse the deal and prospective voting days. Some 24 million buyout. Icon saying the war is not over. Dennis thank you, nicole. Lets follow up. 13. 88 per share for del. Now offering shareholders. Had enough from icon. Maybe not. We are pleased to have won another battle. Its far from over. Joining us now we have Senior Research analyst. Jason allen. Thank you for being with us. What do you think of the latest events . Let me start off by saying i feel like in some ways wall street or investors have treated him kind of shabbily here. The guide founded the Company Coming created the entire thing, and they keep giving an artist on possible. Quite as circus. Not treating shareholders fairly. And his offer, off 24 billion from 18 billion a 4 billion earnings number. About a billion five in fiscal 14. A lot of pressure. Dennis i did think that most recent offer from michael dell of a week ago, i guess, lori says i am going to raise his offer by oldline if you will change the rules a lot more than a dime a share. Is a fine line between uno and a yes vote. Theyre just not counted. It was not a huge change. A change that could mater, it is a change that is certainly matter, but if you look at where the stock would be without these proposals from michael dell and carl icon, you would see a stock that was well below 10 per share, maybe even close state. I dont think that this is dennis you dont see any other bidders eager to buy this thing. You know, he created hundreds of millionaires because of dells stock. But this company would be hurt by the shift. Now, these rules originally come from saying that michael dells 15 stake cannot be voted as we decide and then the second thing, an abstention account is in no. Why did his side agree to such restrictions. A legal stipulations. Above my pay grade you would think that shareholders would get to vote is our share. Ended up staying. That is really outside of my domain expertise. When i want to take their Company Private they agreed not to vote the family shares. Super voting shares would lead to the deal not being approved either. Here . Will he win and will he be sorry that he did . A lot of analysts and investors are surprised to see a second and aggressive bidder out there. Michael and the company have a lot of changes to enact at delta make it a successful growing concern. If you look fiveto10 years out, the revenue was pcs. They need to invest more heavily. Higher growth, highermargin, datacenter. In tech turnarounds are tough. So it is hard to say that michael is taking advantage of shareholders, and they have a lot of work to do an austin. Dennis in my wanted to sell themselves. Thank you for being with us. Good day.
