Effective opponent of the Trump Presidency is donald trump. So is the president his secret weapon or achilles heel . Here to discuss tammy bruce. I will say before i start with you guys, i have a twitter poll that has been up for an hour. To tweet or to not to tweet . 41 say slow down and 49 say keep on going, president. Not that i have any opinion. But this is the same through the campaign. Hes going to destroy himself, hes going to make it impossible to win, hes a menace for himself, hes his owns worst enemy. What we found out is that none of that is true. It is different. For some, its jarring. But i think its a mistake for those who have enjoyed his approach who see the success he has had as an individual, to a that kind of person to change is a problem. And it doesnt mean that were not ing to have some problems on occasion when it comes to how he does approach things because thats part of the resolution. I view it, and i think his supporters viewed it in that way as well. And, yes, of course its irritating to the establishment. Its like a different language entirely. And were trying to use, you know, quarters to try to figure out what hes saying. But he knows what hes doing, its the nature of his style, and that will translate into how successful his working have become. Charles one thing for sure, he controls the narrative. I dont know what you thought to do that day as a journalist, but President Trump steps in there for the Journalist Community and most of the nation. Yeah. And your question was powerful tool or achilles heel . Its both. And what makes this campaign the latest tweet storm is he has an audience of one thats eventually going to make the Supreme Court is anthony kennedy. Anything designed to sway him in the right direction is good. Anything that hurts persuading him is bad. And thats why you saw george conway, kellyannes husband saying, please, dont do this. Im a strong supporter of yours. I want your agenda to succeed. I want this case to succeed. Its a smart klein let their lawyers speak for them in the courtroom, and thats what he needs to do on this travel ban. Charles right. Sarah, its not just kellyannes husband. The wall street journal is conservative editorial board. Mitch mcconnell says he wishes the president would slow down. Yet any unscientific poll says tweet more, mr. President. We want to hear from you, not the Mainstream Media. There are a certain number of his supporters who are going to embrace the president no matter what that includes through the thick and thin through his controversial tweets. But the Campaign Provided fferent incentives for crazy tweets thathe presidency does. Back then, it was to his favor to soak up all the oxygen in the news cycle with whatever point he felt like making that day. Right now, hes taking focus away from other things he need to get done like his legislative agenda and putting republicans on capitol hill in the awkward position occasionally having to answer for tweets that are sometimes controversial or down right inaccurate. Thats not a position he wants to put republicans in, particularly when he needs them to get the agenda passed. I would suggest, though, lets not mistake just because the media only covers his tweets thats the only thing going on. The president is not just tweeting, he is clearly making a difference on the Foreign Policy front. He is meeting obviously with people today regarding the legislative front, having dinner with leaders in congress tonight. Hes operating as a very active president on many fronts. Very often and in media, we can see what were covering, and we think thats the only thing thats occurring. Its not. And i would suggest also that if tweets alone according to woo change Supreme Court justices attitude and opinion, thats a problem for the Supreme Court justice. Welcome to the world of anthony kennedy. Look, its supposed to be infrastructure week. Tweet about infrastructure. Tweet one of your major priorities manufacturer. You talk about manufacturing a lot. Tweet about that. There are all sorts of ways he can be helping his message, rather than undercutting. Charles i always say i at least wish trump would tweet my commentary. Because most of the time i im pointing out good stuff thats happening in this country. But sarah, to that point, President Trump has to speak directly to the men pele because the good stuff wont get out there otherwise. So to a degree, he mus tweet. He must go on facebook. He must communicate with the American Public that will only hear from the Mainstream Media that does not like him. Right. There are ways to use twitter effectively to communicate his message. David i think hes pretty effective. There are, like, 100 million followers. Absolutely but to tammys point. President trump knows that the media is bias against him. Thats just the fact. Thats the structure, the frame of the situation that hes in so he can choose to ignore that fact and continue to hammer on the media or understand that thats the dynamics of washington and beat them at their own game by reducin refusing to give them a shiny object forcing to cover things like infrastructure that he wants to draw attention to. Charles but its not going to change; right . I know its early to o but all signs say, hey, the president continues to say that he confounded in the experts to tell him not to do this, and he found himself in the white house. Why would he change . He also has a history of success. Lets remember this. This is not somebody whos striking trying something new. This is a man who has been successful with his business. I know politics in washington are not the trump tower. But this is what we want to have change. Also, the other issue of course is that youve got to have a media that if hes not giving them a shiny object, theyll make something up. Theyll find something. It will be gossip, as weve been dealing with for the last several months, of course. So he might as well be himself. Hes a smart man. He knows whats at stake. He also wants to win and succeed, and we needo help him get there. Charles rich, politicians, republican politicians voicing a couple of hours ago, i saw a video where bob was looking at someones twitter, and hes just shaking his head. Are they also using this to a degree because they cant get their act together as a smoke screen . Hey, you know what . The president stops tweeting, we can pass tax reform. Yeah. Look, theres a lot of failure going around here. And its going to look really bad for senator republicans if they cant get that repeal and replace bill off the floor. And its an open question whether they can or not. And Mitch Mcconnells point to trump is always be boring. Be more boring. Donald trump, sure tammy is right would not be the president of the United States if he had been boring or mitch mcconnell. But there are things to be learned in this new position that hes in. But the clinching argument hes always going to have when anyone comes to him and do it differently with im more famous, im richer, and im more powerful than you. Who are you not to tell me do it my way. Charles and i also go to sleep in the white house. Sarah, were obviously past the low energy jet era, which had its bright point before eee first primary of the gop. This . Because its one of the things thats a double edge sword. I think it helps tremendously. There are times when you kind of squint, go ouch you know . You could be your own worst enemy, but he has to keep tweeting i think ultimately. It just depends on the way he tweets. The times that he tweets that undermine the message his own staff has been working to promote, thats when it hurts him. When he tweets about secret tapes that comey should hope dont exist, and that causes his staff to spend two days trying to put out a fire that they did not to be dealing wi. That doesnt really help him, and its hard to s ideally, he gets up at 6 00 a. M. Every morning, he saves ten tweets into draft and has kellyanne to say which ones to send. Charles that would be good. Because kellyanne has gone to Great Lengths saying, hey, the media is too focused on tweets rather than accomplishments. See, thats the problem. It becomes the first question at the press briefing, et cetera. But this is a man who was setting the agenda. Youve got a dynamic where he i think he understands what the conversation has to be. But hes also always in front. And when youre asking for people to kind of that highs crew can stay up near him, the fact is that they are always chasing him for a active president that their job is for them to keep up, not for him to go back and try to stay at the level. And thats what i think that crew needs to be encouraged to do. Charles they have to get up and strap up those sneakers. All right. Guys, thanks a lot. Well, President Trump promoting his original travel ban. But some asking could this hurt his legal case . We have going to join us with serious insight. Next finally. Hey ron theyre finally taking down that schwab billboard. Oh, not so fast, carl. Oh no. Schwab, again . Index investing for that low . Thats three times less than fidelity. And four times less than vanguard. Whats next, no minimums . No minimums. Schwab has lowered the cost of investing again. Introducing the lowest cost index funds in the industry with no minimums. I bet theyre calling about the schwab news. Schwab. A modern approach to Wealth Management. Still clean their dentures manywith toothpaste. But they have to use special care in keeping the denture clean. Dentures are very different to real teeth. Theyre about 10 times softer and may have surface pores where bacteria can multiply. Polident is designed to clean dentures daily. Its unique microclean formula kills 99. 99 of odor causing bacteria and helps dissolve stains, cleaning in a better way than brushing with toothpaste. Thats why i recommend using polident. Polident. Cleaner, fresher, brighter every day. Charles well, President Trump doubled down yesterday on the original travel ban as homeland secretary chief john kelly tells a panel today that the threat from socalled lone wolf attacks are obviously increasing and the hold on the ban is imperiling the safety of all americans. But could President Trumps twitter barrage raise more hurdles for him . Joining us now congressman. Thank you for being on the show. Great to be with you, charles. Charles a lot of separation over the next 24 hours whether or not the tweet and now officially calling what i was saying the travel moratorium, the ban, what kind of impact that could have legally. Legally, there shouldnt be a case, charles. This president , like previous president s, has the absolute legal right to restrict or to increase refugees from places that he feels like are detrimental to our national security. These i think the entire thing here, charles, is the very fact that we have activist judges ninth circuit activist liberal judges that are at the district level that simply are interpreting his words in a manner in which they want to further their own political agenda. Americans who are at risk here is proven our western allies are at risk for the Political Correctness that is going on with our programs for our refugees and immigrants and migrants is absurd. And when we have people getting maimed and killed, and they still want to continue to allow people in from countries that are absolutely hot spots of terror with no centralized government or central repository of information so that we cant vet these people properly, i think its just makes common sense to restrict this. I have a bill that would do the exact same thing that i introduced a year and a half ago, and i applaud President Trump, and i hope this gets to the Supreme Court quickly, and i hope that they will uphold his absolute Legal Authority to protect americans. Charles what do you say, though. We saw a major decline in refugees early on peaking while sort of hitting the low rather in march. And now theyre starting to pick up again. And the top fi countries we have syria and somalia. Two names on the travel ban. Thats right. Charles what does that say . Does that say that this is really still an openminded administration . Even though we know that those are potentially terrorist hotbeds. Is that a pro or a confor the administration . Well, all i can say, charles, is that i think the proofs in the pudding. These are absolute hot spots that the Obama Administration shows when he was still in office by the administration. We have 50 or more muslim majority countries in the world today. This is six. And, again, these are failed states or enemies known enemies of america like iran, and i think it just makes common sense. So i can tell you that the president is within his legal rights to do what hes doing. And, again, its not just the executive orders. We need to pass a law to make sure that no future president can undo these executives orders. Charles let me before i let you go, sir. We hear that being politically correct is hurting us. Its hurting our country and making us unsafe. I would like to know what a nonpolitical correct policy looks like. Give us an example if we could throw Political Correctness out the window, what would our policy look like . Great question. I think number one, you have to identify the problem. I mean, for eight years, our president and the administration would not even call it for what it is. Radical islam. These are terrorists. These arent baptists and catholics running around cutting people heads off. These are radical islamic terrorists, and thats the first thing we have to do. And i think the president has done so. Hes being branded as a, you know, some kind of bigot for that when in reality, it is nothing but Political Correctness. The socalled diversity is getting People Killed and, you know, we have to identify the problem. Weve got to have extreme vetting. We know that even during obamas years, the fbi director and his Homeland Security secretary told us that they could not properly vet people from countries like syria. So weve got to do that. Weve got to stop those and pause the influx of these people from these areas. This is what i call nonpolitically correct vetting and identifying the problem charles or some might call it common sense vetting as well. Common sense. Charles thank you very much. Appreciate it. Speaking of the fbi, former fbi director james comeys highly anticipated testimony is set for thursday and could prove to be a real test of loyalty for republicans. Trump i wish him luck. Thank you, everybody. Charles well, thats President Trump wishing former fbi chief james comey wishing him luck perform after this, the white house well, he will not exert executive privilege. The to me Democrat SenateJudiciary Committee senator Dianne Feinstein says members will ask comey for his notes and memos at this hearing. I want to discuss now madison, vince, and tammy bruce. Madison with let me start with you. A lot of questions are going to be asked for you. Which one are the most pivotal and important . You know, i think as much as we would like to see were going to receive so much information from comey on thursday, i think this is going to be a big fat nothing burger. I think no matter what he says, hes going to be dodging a lot of questions. Hes not really going to be giving us that much information. He did testify back in may. He said, you know, there was no political pressure. So for him to change his story now would either be perjury or, you know, a straight lie. So i think theres going to be a lot of issues with him avoiding that. So i think no matter what he says, were going to see people on both sides cherry picking what they want to cherrypick to further their own agendas and overall, i think its going to be a lot of nothing. Charles although, there is something, particularly they can they can ask did you do any while president obama was in office . Right. And if you took a memo down, and you thought that the political pressure was being exerted on you dropping investigation, why didnt you pull all the fire alarms in the Justice Department . Why did you treat it like it was nothing at the time . So i think that question, specifically. And also, this idea that he would share details of investigations because they were in the Public Interest. He said the fbi doesnt normally share the details of on going investigations. Well, if thats true, if the Public Interest isnt enough to get you to share details like that, why didnt you share details about on going leak investigations in the fbi . Because those are clearly in the Public Interest and certainly of interest to the president of the United States. Very bizarre the way james comey would cherrypick which cases to share before the public. And i hope the republicans actually ask questions related to that this week. Charles well, its interesting, tammy because the word right now is that republicans on the Senate Intel Committee are going to play straight down the line. And the reason i bring this up is we saw obama official after obama official called down to washington, d. C. To testify and the democrats on each of those committees always did one thing. They blocked. They blocked. They obstructed. We got nothing out of that. So it would be interesting to see republicans play it sort of straight down the middle. Well, the fact that this public hearing is happening at l strikes me as difficult. They first invited him to do something understandably because of the subject matter in private. But he refused. He wanted to do it in public. And this confirms part of his problem, which is enjoying the cameras, enjoying the attention. This has been one of the main complaints about mr. Comey, the exdirector. So the fact that the republicans Controlling Congress have allowed what is going to be a circus to unfold immediately calls into question the Republican National committees commitment to trying to make sure that the president s agenda and that this government can continue to move forward smoothly. So, yes, great comments and potential questions from my fellow commenters here. But the bigger issue is how are they going to and will they ask questions that put mr. Comey on the defensive and have it not be about just attacking the president of the United States. Thats going to tell the American People a lot about where the Republican National committee stands, where the Republican Party stands versus a man whos in the white house because the American People put him there. Charles and to that point, madison, President Trump having dinner tonight with marco rubio and tom, two senators on that intel committee. Certainly, theyll discuss this and, again, this is a time for republicans to ive got to be quite frank with you. I havent seen full support of President Trump since Inauguration Day from his own political party. This may be a good chance for them to stand up and protect, or at least find a truth. Its definitely a good chance for him to do that. But i dont anticipate that happening. Unfortunately, i dont think the republican centers are going to be asking the tough questions that people like senator graham, senator grassley, senator lee would have been asking on the Senate Judiciary committee. So i think like i said, its going to be very down the middle on thursday, and were not going to get a lot from comey. Charles all right. Guys we have to leave it there. But President Trump saying comey is going to stop short of saying that he tried to. Shocking details on the nsa leaker that could put the future safety and security of u. S. Last night we told you about the 25yearold nsa contractor reality when her for allegedly leaking a topsecret Intelligence Report on russian interference in the 2016 on line with news of zpic questions are swirling about how it happened and what happened again and exact weight what did the russians attempt to discuss. Bre let me start with you. Of course a lot of questions coming out particularly around this week are potentially a 25yearold woman who wore her disdain for President Trump on her sleeve and her twitter account. You are exactly right. Its clear from many of the statements that she made that she was no fan of the president and i think its fair and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but when its your job to serve our country, server government at the pleasure of the president even for contractor i think your duty to your country should come before your personal feelings towards the president and i think its very clear that she didnt. Charles fred implications from this . A lot of people are hoping this is just the beginning of many arrests because obviously leaks are a significant problem with the Trump Administration thus far. She must be fully prosecuted. There is no exception in a Security Agreement if you dont like resin trump leaks like this put lives at risk are they compromised Intelligence Systems and they cost millions of dollars to put together. It worries me that shes a junior person but there cant be any exceptions here. She was an Intelligence Officer in the armed services. She knew she was doing this just to go to prison. Charles do you anticipate more arrests . Yes i do. I think their aggressive efforts in the u. S. Government to find out where these are coming from. I think this is the first of
