The republican frontrunner is now the only candidate with a mathematical chance of reaching 1237 delegates required to secure the nomination. We had a great night last night in new york. Reporter celebrating a New York Primary landslide in indiana, donald trump argued now all but impossible for texas senator ted cruz and Ohio Governor john kasich to win a majority of delegates before the convention. Trump carried more than 60 of new yorks vote and all but one of the 27 Congressional Districts. Kasich got 25 of new yorks statewide vote. Won a single Congressional District for a total of 4. Before flying to florida to work Republican NationalCommittee Members before the july nominating convention in cleveland, he spoke to the Washington Post on facebook live. Nobody is going to have enough delegates, so were going to end up at a convention where were going to have open convention. Reporter cruz only got 14 of the vote and blanked in the delegate chase, like kasich, his only hope is to block trump from getting the 1237 delegates for the nomination before and during the convention. Cruz courted the rncs 168 members in florida too admitting he can no longer reach a majority of delegates before the convention and argue neither will trump. Im not going to reach 1237 and donald trump is not going to reach 1237. Were going to arrive in cleveland with me having a ton of delegates and donald having a ton of delegates, and at that point it is going to be a battle to see who can earn the support of a majority of the delegates elected by the people. Reporter trump has growing momentum. Next tuesday, several blue northeastern states vote, pennsylvania, maryland, delaware, connecticut and rhode island and trump leads the polls. All five states proportionately, kasich is hoping to pick up delegates, too. Then a string of red states, indiana, nebraska, south dakota and montana, trump playing to win in indiana and knock cruz back further. Indiana has lost one in five manufacturing jobs since china joined the world trade organization, 2002. Ted cruz supports chinese currency cheating. All ryan accomplished is to leave everyone shake their heads at his naivete and some might say his boldness and understanding better that speaker ryan wasnt ready in any way for that job he didnt seek but he now holds. Meanwhile as counterpart in the senate, Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell trying meekly to walk back his antitrump remarks saying he spoke as he put it inartfully, they talk like that in the senate, you know . When he said he was increasingly optimistic that there will be a second ballot at the convention. Hes decided that was probably too much. With all these socalled leaders lacking an obvious tact, constraint, intellect, vision, gravitas, depth and character, it is no wonder that donald trump unsettles them so profoundly and if the gop loses seats in the house or the senate, it will clearly be the fault of their fatuous leaders and many of the threatened seats will survive, in fact, will be on the strong coattails of the true leader who has yet to be welcomed by the week. Lou its kind of fun to see donald trump there engaging all of those people, while at the same time, down in florida, you guys are meeting, youre having your Spring Meeting and were riveted with the possibilities that you guys come up with another new unique way to either interject yourself into the contest or whether or not your chairman will continue his hostility toward donald trump. But whats the tone there . What are you people up to . I think there are some people who actually would do anything but trump. But the consensus is to leave the rules in place. The rules committee will meet tomorrow from 2 00 to 4 00, i expect no changes on the floor and things will stay as is. But lou you are exactly right, there are some of our colleagues who are adamant that Donald Trumps not the one. What i dont understand is why they cant see what the rest of us see, that is the huge crowds. Americans believing in him and believing in making America Great again. Im not sure whats wrong with that message. Lou frankly, randy, as you and i discussed. I cannot first of all imagine what suddenly has bitten certain members whether its paul ryan, whether its Reince Priebus, members of the rules committee as you suggest, and well leave them nameless at this point. What they dont see is five million more folks than are voting in the republican primaries than the democrats who outnumber them by registration. Thats because of the man theyre look at on the screen. Its impossible to understand. You have a coach thats winning games. Hes putting people in the seats. Energizing the crowd. Hes doing everything that you would ever ask him to do, and yet, youre right. There are those who say lets change the rules mid stream. Slow them down, try to stop it, and i think the latest strategy, lou, it really is, is to create a stalemate convention, which is a convention where we dont have a nominee by the end of the week so we reconvene with unbound delegates. I dont believe thats going to happen. I think after new york and after next tuesday, youre going to see the trump train try to pick up speed. Lou thats what i was going to ask you, randy. If its not clear that the trump train, as its called, is rolling with greater momentum than ever, i dont know what it would take, as you suggest, next tuesday is super tuesday, with the five contests. It looks to me like there may not the campaign, the Trump Campaign may not be overstating the 1400 delegates. Theyre well on their way to achieving the 1237. I do expect, i do expect all of the antitrump folks to do in indiana what they did in wisconsin which is to rally and say, you know, this is a bridge here, were going to try to block the bridge and make it all or nothing. Its hard to stop a train with that speed, coming out of new york. Into the northeast and heading toward california. Lou as weve discussed for ten months now, it is the year of the outsider, and theres only one outsider remaining in the contest who has a chance of winning the nomination, and his name is donald trump. Moment they tell you that you cant mathematically win, the money dries up. What youll start to see is all the insiders who have been insiders for decades who want to stay an insider will jump on the only train headed inside, and thats the donald trump train.
