Compromise and he will veto the bill if it is passed. The fact is this piece of legislation is not different from the legislation that was introduced in the last congress. We put out a statement indicating if the president would veto would pass the previous congress. I can confirm if this bill passes this congress the president wouldnt sign it either. Also confirmed any Congress Marshall effort to define full time work week at 40hours would be met with president ial veto. Just two hours earlier the president claiming he was ready to work with congress. Im very much looking toer ward to working with them. I already had a chance to say happy new year to them and im confident there will be areas we will disagree and some battles, but im also confident that there are enormous areas of potential agreement for the American People and we have to make sure we focus on those areas where we can make significant progress together. Doesnt sound promising. His comments came moments after john boehner was elected to his third term as speaker of the house. Boehner was able to over come a rebellion within his own party to keep the gavel. 25 members voted for someone other than boehner, falling just four votes shy of the second ballot. Something that hasnt happened for nearly a century. He was appreciative and, as you might expect a bit weepyful. I want to thank my family. [ applause ] i was doing pretty good on the walk over here. Until i ran into devins three little girls my three biggest fans and one of them came running over to give me a kiss and i was a mess. But a charming mess, well say that. The senate in session for its first full working day under Republican Leadership and Mitch Mcconnell wasted no time in taking the president to task for threatening to veto the keystone bill and the 40hour work week. The president wont set the agenda in the senate. We have an agenda that we believe will help create and save jobs for americans. If the president wants to be part of that he can sign the bills that make it to his desk if he doesnt im sure he will make his best effort to explain to the American People why these measures are not in the best interest of the country. Joining us now former deputy chief of staff for president george w. Bush. Great to have you with us. Happy new year. Here we go. Mitch mcconnell i thought making a rather generous offer to the white house, just sign the bills and everything will be fine. Much as the president said thats what i want. I thought it was also interesting the point he made, if you dont like the bills then you will have a chance to tell the American People why you dont like them. The Keystone Pipeline showed 72 of americans including a large number of democrats support its passing. A large number of republicans obviously and a large number of democrats so the president is hurting himself by vetoing the bill. Theres something broader here under way. In early december after the election the question was asked who should take the lead in setting the direction of the country and said opposing party in congress meaning republicans, 53 or the sitting president , 36 . And that seems to be a pretty big advantage to the republicans in congress. Normally people have confidence in the executive, the sitting president , regardless of party, they have more confidence in him then in the congress. But now thats not the case. Well the president said he doesnt Pay Attention to those polls. How much of a constraint could it be to look at the will of the people here. Yeah. He seems to be interested in traditional constraints constitutionally, checks and balances, equal partners and seems uncertainoncerned with the constitution. Is this congressional led senate and house can do anything to reign in his some what adventurous impulses. Sure. Well see him fixing riders to appropriations bills, that say no funds will be used for the following purposes. We will see it in february. It will take some writing some draftsmenship because the president is funding his, in my opinion, illegal, unsuppose ofrtrtedunsupported, not allowed immigration memberim immigration memoranda, they will have to find the right words to reign it in. I think it will pass the house with ease. I would not be surprised if it didnt get more than 60 votes in the senate to reign it in in which case the president will have to veto and well have a battle over veto override. Youre referring to the fees talking about citizenship and immigration services, by the sheer numbers involved here, it is clear to anyone who has paid much attention to the cis and its management and its highly inefficient and unproductive organization, it will be swamped, it will be brought to a standstill. Theres no way in the world for cis to deliver on the president s promises. Do the republicans have an opportunity to just hoist the president on his own if you will youre right. Lets say the republicans pass through the house and pass through the senate the language that keeps him from spending dhs funds of whatever sort either by congress or receive in fees on his immigration memos, lets say they pass it and say he vetoes it and it cant be over written if a third of the Congress Stand by the president , the house and Senate Democrats stand by the democrats, i think there could be a point where the president runs out of fee income and has to couldnt to the come to the congress to say give me money to pay for this. Or he will be stuck. Other law thats have been on the books for more than 100 years will keep him from spending money that he doesnt have. Youre right, the program is badly managed and will cost more than they anticipate. If they have a significant flow of people that step forward they could be in trouble. One thing might save themful i think a lot of people who are in that covered class allowing to go without enforcement of our immigration laws a lot of those people may say i dont trust him. Im not coming out of the shadows, im comfortable in the circumstances i have and im going to take advantage of the opportunity the president is providing. The president said he will veto keystone and 40hour work week. Is there anything that appears to carl roves vision that says this is a place where the president of the United States and congress and senate can Work Together and produce legislation in national interest. Not in the interest of congress or the chamber. Heres the issue i think the president is doing it out of machismo. He wants to say im going to be a hard guy from the get go. The only things i want you to deal with are the things i want you to deal with and in the way i want to you deal with them. Theres a reality pass the legislation through house and senate and send it to the president and if the president is vetoing things like the Keystone Pipeline and definition of the work week being 40hours, two things will happen one is the American People will look to the president and say where are you coming from. Are are you doing these innocencible things and you will see, as we have already started to sees the polls will indicate he is the source of gridlock and destruction. Second thing is theres only so many times you can go to house and Senate Democrats to say i need you to stand by me to vote. Only so many tiles you can say i want you to join me in veto of this legislation and go home and explain to the voters you will have to face. They will be on the ballot again and many will say mr. President i know where youre coming from but i cant stand with you on this veto. Carl . I think that is entire plausible. What was that one area the president may not be able to deliver any democrats and we wont pe able to get out and negotiate trade agreements with Foreign Countries because they wont want to go through heart ache on their end of reducing obstacles in their country if they cant be guaranteed if it will get an up or down vote in the United States. It gets complicated quickly doesnt it. It sure does. Carl rove. Thank you sir. And the president meeting with mexicos president at the white house. They discussed the president s new policies towards cuba and granting amnesty to 5 million illegal immigrants. On immigration, the president actually claimed he will be tougher on the issue of border security. We are going to provide a mechanism so that families are not separated who have been here a long time. Were also going to be much more aggressive at the border in insuring that people come through the system legally. It turns out president obs socalled opening to cuba may be nothing more than political fars. He claimed 3 weeks ago 53 prisoners would be freed as part of his historic deals so far none of that has happened. In fact Human Rights Group reports that cuba detained a record high number of political disidents, 2,000 more than in 2013. Coming up we will talk with zum zuckerman. And much more. Three radical islamism terrorists still at large after killing 12 and wounded 10 others in paris. Earlier reports, by the way, that have been unconfirmed we are being waived off from our chief intelligence correspondent saying french police, French Embassy personnel is waving us off this story so it is unconfirmed reports and reports we will not carry further. The terror shouting when fleeing the scene. I stopped calling these people muslim terrorists, they are as muslim as i am they have no respect for anyone elses life. Europe has a enormous radical problem. I think it is a cult. I dont think we should give them any religious respects. Whatever theyre claiming, their motivation is twisted. One could argue the twisting was being done by the good doctor. Joining us now john bolden good to have you with us. Contorgss contortions to the left are unspeakable. The president didnt want to call this a terrorism attack when it plainly is. Without any questionful i think that unwillingness to name it for what it is is a major reason why for six years the president has responded to it so inadequately. Its not being differential to the islamic religion not to identify them as radical islamisms. The people most hurt by them are other muslims. I think by calling it what it is, is sort of a first step on the road to recovery. Well it is one. Its been six years of frustration with 24 administration which refuses to do so. By the way bringing up your old boss president george w. Bush that white house refused to talk about radical islamism itself. What the hell is wrong with the u. S. Government that its leaders refuse to talk plainly, name enemies and go kill them. I think theres a substantial element of the population simply doesnt want to admit were at war, the leader of that faction sits in the oval office. I have to say i think this is a big event, a military style attack of civilians, in the capital city no reason to think our president will do anything different. You may well be right. What is frustrating for the American People is to see year upon year in engagement in iraq with a disappointing conclusion, a complete withdrawal, same thing is happening in afghanistan, we have troops in 124 countries around the world in one form or another engage in radical islamist terror and yet we see no results in the form of the Islamic State which the president said wasnt islamic. Its incredible. But the National Media puts up with it. The Republicans Party tolerates too often even a remark. We need to have a debate about americas interest. We think america strengthens the world or are we a major part of the problem. We can ignore it at our peril. This thing that happened in paris, the attack in sydney in middecember, could happen in new york washington any other american city, and if we dont Pay Attention to it, it will. John bolden always good to see you. Thanks so much. Up next New York Times accuses nypd of extorting mayor bill de blasio and were going to try to understand better what they really mean. Mayor de blasio has set the countrys biggest city on edge he has done so with no regard to the high duty of the office he sought and won. The men and women of Law Enforcement risk our lives daily to protect ours. The mayor cast gated those individual whos turned their backs on the mayor. Those individuals who took certain action last week, the last two weeks really, they were disrespectful to the families involved, thats the bottom line. They were disrespectful to the families who had lost their loved one. And i cant understand why anyone would do such a thing in the context like that. That is of course the mayors convenient construction of the events and the gesture. But it is not that of the officers and the families of officers of the two men who were killed. And they were likely not forgive what they believe to be a revolveing hostility on new yorks finest. Listen to the mayor. Good law abiding young man, who never thinks to do anything wrong, yet the dangers he may face, we will have to train him as families had all over this city for decades how to take special care in any encounter he has with Police Officer whos are there to protect him. The insults them inemnate and the insults go on. The New York Times Editorial Board today resorted to what i consider to be facist impulses in urging that the Justice Department investigate forthwith whether new york police are guilty of violations at times nypd withdraw pleasing from minority community. The times editor said this. Frankly, its never been clear that the times is little more than a house organ for the left doing what it can to further the Barack Obama Administration of bigotry towards police. I would urge mayor bill de blasio to step back reflect and carefully consider the nature and his responsibility to this city and to decide whether he truly wants to govern in this fashion and whether he truly wants his legacy to be defined by this conflict of his own korea creation or whether he would like to be defined by leading its resolution. President obama today defended his executive action on cuba. Today meeting with mexicos president and emphasizing the Administration Remains concerned about democracy and human rights in cuba which he didnt bring to his initial discussions of the opening. Our next guest interviewed castro two decades ago and he talked with the former president since. Joining us now, billionairepublisher, boston propertys executive chairman mark zucker good to have you with us. Good to be here. First of all do you support the president s opening as he is done with cuba . I do. I think it was the right policy. I think weve had many years of trying to clamp down on cuba and it hasnt really accomplished much. I think theres a point now cuba will evolve much more quickly than has in the past. I think over time it is the best way to change the dynamic between cuba and the United States. Now comes words that the president needs the help of the president of mexico to proceed. I mean, the idea, the ludicrous image of the president of the United States requiring the assistance of the president of mexico to advance u. S. Policy in cuba. It is mindboggling, is it not . No i really dont think so. Look, mexico obviously has a major relationship with cuba and we have a major relationship with mexico and were trying to calm things down in that part of the world. I see no problem with enlisting the support of the mexican president because they obviously also have influence on cuba. Yeah. The reason i question it is because they havent been particularly helpful on the war of drugs. Mexico remains the principal source of meth, cocaine, and heroin into this country. Could it have made more sense to ask the mexican president for help in stopping that. No question. I dont think the two are incompatible. I couldnt agree more. I think we should find ways to pressure mexico on those issues very seriously because it is very damaging to the United States. This is a good idea to enlist their support. I think it would make sense if there were conditions for that relationship just as we have conditions for canada or for the rest of the hemisphere and the world. This president didnt require condition. He is a man of great againer ossity. Again again ross generosity. The problem that we have it doesnt mean that some of the policies arent in the right direction but the way they execute a lot of these policies, i mean, in cuba i fear in this instance that is so often the case with this president who is willful who is almost to the point of being whimsical, he has decided somehow that there are no constraints on his power and that he is not required by tradition or values of the constitution to get consensus, for example why would he not bring in the cubanamerican community. Why would he not speak to the American People. This is half century of policy. And this man sprawls his name on a piece of paper, or not, and decides he has the capacitiy to do so. It is mindless. It is. It is an astonishing way to govern because this is not leadership this is his own style of how he wants to work thats why he has lost so much support in the congress and in the american publicful if you look at his Approval Rating it is down to around 40 . In my judgment he is digging a deeper and deeper hole. Generally speaking. But thats who he is. And we have to work and live with hill. With hill. With him. It is astonishing to watch the way that administration works. And its really too bad. This country, the way our government works, we need the right kind of leadership from the presidency and were not having it. He has no relations with the congress, in the New York Times it was said, hes the First Community organizer who doesnt like people. Its true. Im not saying some of those people are particularly likeable. Anyway. Mark, we like you a lot. Thank you very much. Im always having a good time when im here. Thanks. Good to see you. The police searched for and spotted the suspects outside the chinese restaurant. Surveillance video shows the gunman in the restaurant opening fire. After being confronted he wounded the officers in that exchange of gunfireful. Exchange of gunfire. Joining us now the column for the hill great to see you, and happy new year. Reverend al hes got quite a sense of timing, doesnt he just as new york has buried two of its finest and then two officers are shot, trying to protect the lives and property of a yemeni restaurant. What in the world is he thinking . Do you have any idea . You know, lou, this is a puzzle to me. I look at the past as prolog and happy new year to you. And the past is al sharpton is a guy who is always out for a buck. You look back through the facts he owes millions to the tax folks and hasnt paid off as revealed by the New York Times. This was a guy who was once an fbi informant. Again, bucks on the table. It strikes me that there has to be some deal here. When the issue of sony came up, al sharpton jumped on it, why . Because money. He did this with pepsi cola threatened them with a boycott. Amy pascal krrks arks lrkscal is an idiot. Why she called sharpton might as well have called kim jongun. She said she will buy silence from the community by paying offal sharmton. Off al sharpton. The idea he wants to resume complaining and protesting doesnt serve the people of new york or the black community, hes serving his interest. Well, who in the world is keeping al sharpton in business. How can the leaders of the black community, and im not always comfortable with the expression i would like to see a community in this city of new york. I would prefer that. Yeah. I think it would be a beginning towards intelligent communication, living far better in this city. Reverend al sharpton he is a figurement figurementamentment of his own imagination. Let me just say, that what weve got here is a situation where a lot of these big corporations think you know the easy way to deal with minoritys in this country and the growing number of minor minoritys with voice is that you get al sharpton with the loudest vice in the room. Voice in the room. Is that why hes hired hes the loudest voice. Thats what i see. Hes boughtal sharpton as his guy. Hes given him the white house and all the visits and the rest and he said any time i have a problem with the black community i can put al sharpton out front and im covered. He does this because he is sick of Jesse Jackson. He knew jackson from chicago. Didnt find jackson supportive. So he cut off jackson and lifted up sharpton which is so insult insulting to the black community. The president was not too thrilled with Jesse Jackson if you will miming various guest rurs gestures. All of that is understandable. What is not understandable new york finest turned their backs on him by the thousands at a funeral for officer wenjian liu. I mean, with 245that kind of connection between the president , attorney general al sharpton and mayor bill de blasio why in the world should they not turn their backs on this mayor . Well i think there has to be a civilian chain of command and you have to respect leadership. The heck you do. You have to respect people who respect you. Yeah, but you know what if youre putting your life on the line i sure as hell would demand respect for what im doing, won the you if you were in that role. If im in the military i understand theres leadership, that was elected by people who have complaints i dont agree with. I understand their platform to issue those complaints. No this mayor went after those men and women who served this city in uniform and protect the lives of this mayor and everyone else in this city. How could you justify ration alliesing that kind of disrespect on the part of the man who presumes to lead a city. I think there are legitimate complaints by the police against mayor de blasio but i dont think the people who are in the position of wearing that most honored uniform new yorks finests, the blues, i dont think they should show disrespect to civilian leadership. Do you think any one Law Enforcement officer sacrifices his or her rights who holds them in content. Not at all. I dont think it is appropriate. They can do it. Obviously did it. I dont think it is appropriate to do it while your in the uniform and i especially dont think it is appropriate while youre at that funeral. Lets begin with a man who insulted an entire Police Department and his name is bill de blasio. It begins with him. He is either going to be the problem or the solution. But it is getting to be pretext of good manners on part of Police Department that is new yorks finest. We see the slow down, that worries me. How about we get a mayor who understands he has responsibility broader than his own ideology. Always good to see you. Up next Jeffrey Epstien landed you in prison. Sheila you see this ball control . Defense attorney filing a sworn statement denying he had sex with under age girls linked to jerry epstein. It was necessary to do so because his accusers challenging a 2008 plea deal that spared epstein federal charges and he ended up with 13 months in prids prison for solicitation for under age prostitute. Allen thank you for joining us and for taking the forebearing and barring up to do this tonight. Thank you for having me i appreciate it. Lets start with a plea deal. How in the world was as u. S. Attorney involved in a plea that deal that was constructed largely by you, as i understand it, and given such a light sentence gifrnven the level of charges and agreed to facts. They had a very weak case. They had to rely on the word of witnesses who had long records of lying. So we were able to strike a plea bargain which my client didnt like he thought it was too tough. If people think it was too good a deal i agree but the idea i would be charged with sex with minors is just outrageous. Sex in a ranch in new mexico. I was there once for for an hour with wife and daughter and it wasnt even built yet. And in laws childrens, my wife daughter, slept in the same room with my daughter and never alone on the island, there were no women on the island she just made it up. How could responsible lawyers have put in pleading in in context. Respectful lawyers former federal judge and florida plaintiffs attorney well respected and well regarded. Its your judgment that they simply maliciously and capriciously went after you. Thats right. They had a reason to go after me. I was one of the only lawyers who knew Jeffery Epstein before the alleged crimes were prosecuted so they could make the accusation against meful they did it for crass, financial and political reasons. I did the investigation in a day and proved through all kinds of records my innocence. The woman was a serial liar. Imagine waking up being accused of being a child molester. They just put it in there like a drive by shooting, of course i will fight it, im totally innocent. Its as if these two attorneys didnt know allens capacity and his stomach for the fight. It makes no sense. Im not that kind of person. Im a family man. Have wife and children just not the kind of man who would ever do that. What kind of person, though, on the part of the federal government and the state prosecutors would ignore the victims rights act and make a deal like this without informing the victim. Thats an issue between the United States government and the victims. Thats an issue the judge will have to resolve. But they put me in this thing even though the accusation was levelled in 2014 and the deal struck in 2007. Unless they had a allegation against me going back to 2007 which they clearly didnt, this is just totally irrelevant and they put it in there to smear our reputation and theyre not going to get away with it. They picked on an innocent victim this time. Always good to talk to you allen. Thanks for being with us. We wish you a speedy recovery. Thanks for being ill and bearing up with us. Thanks.
