Background on wall street. He is really tied in to what the fed has been doing and whether that has inflated assets on the market. I thought that was a fascinating interview. Liz we were talking before the interview about shutterfly, which of course is such a big, successful photo business and make books and keepsakes. He started resonating when he talked about what he felt was a flatout bubble created by the fed. So we began to talk about this, wait a minute, why dont i share this with viewers. Here is what the ceo of shutterfly had to say about this. I think with low Interest Rates and with quantitative easing, you have troubles in india and brazil. You have europe doing a malaise. You have interest ratings rising. So money is chaising yield and it is flowing into u. S. Equities and u. S. Housing. Were creating mini bubbles. The fed rightfully so trying to get people to lend and the economy going but at some point we have to pull back. Liz make no mistake, he thinks this needs to end, david. He is very concerned. He said there are two bubbles forming. Not just the stock market bubble. Believe me is at shutterflys s. It has went up exponentially. He says this is flatout housing bubble. This is no silicon valley, startup, dotc focused what is going on and very concerned there may be some type of a vi he is such a benefited fromw Interest Rates saying they have economy. Ultimately even if he is a shorttermmy i love that interview. Th w liz thank you. Jumping board for the our next discussion. Liz, well get back to you in a moment. To todays market discussion. Gary rand, whose last stock pick is up 25 . We he has to hold in his earpiece. Todd horowitz in the pits of cme. Todd, i want to start with you. The markets are shaking the blues awaist we had syria. Not as big as it was in terms of worry. The worst of the fed has sort of been priced in. Bears are getting crushed. So why do you say, dont buy in right now . Hi, david. I agree with jeffrey from shutterfly. This market is being subsidized by the fed. It is built artificially. Weve not seen any real growth forever and you have to, at some point you have to pay the piper. Right now this is all subsidy of the fed. The fed is becoming the Worlds Largest hedge fund the way theyre creating bubble in the market. I would hate to see people flow in here that hasnt been involved in the beginning. If you chase the market up here, look at the big picture were only inside our range between 1700 and 1640. We really havent fon any. Where. It feels like we have not gone anywhere. I would hate to see the average Retail Investor getting involved. Because i think theyre buying into a bubble. David lets talk about how big of a bubble it is todd. I want to stick for a second. Do you think the magnitude of this bubble, if indeed it is one, equals the magnitude of the 20089 bubble . You know, i dont know if it will get there. I look at the market one level at a time. Im looking for it to sell off in a slight bubble. Could it get there . Sure, it is possible we could see a repeat. Remember history has repeated 87, 99 and 2008. We have seen this happen before. David weve seen it happen before but, gary, the question is whether the fed kept Interest Rates so low for so long the magnitude of the bubble, which is in this case the entire stock market, is going to equal that of 20078 do you agree . No. You know, i think the feds actions got us here. Certainly will take corporate earnings to get us to the next level but i dont think this is anything comparable to 2008, the valuation. David do you think its a mini bubble as jeff said it was . No, i dont agree with that either. I dont think its a mini bubble. Equities have responded to easy money, no doubt. Valuations though, you know, arent super unreasonable although i think the market is getting to the levels where finding things that are cheap is become ago challenge but i think between, you know the lows of march of 09 and here, there was apple has been in trouble last 10 months and market gone higher. I think apple has internal problems. I dont think they were as great as they once were. Before i am a buyer of apple i want to see to the 380 low it printed a couple months ago before i think getting back into apple. David 308 . Man, you strike a hard bargain. Listen, look at apple. Its down, the entire markets up 25 . Apple is down 40 . Even with news, can not drive it up. So even with carl icahn they cant keep it up here. So apple looks like it is in a little bit of trouble. They make a great product. David 380 . Gary, you wouldnt wait until 380. Wouldnt you jump in before it goes done to that . My observation of apple. It is like nike and coke. It is a Consumer Products company. There are right times to own in and buy it and wrong times to own it and buy it. In here it is kind of in the middle. I would wait to get a little cheaper possibly. It has run up recently. You have to view it, it is not the apple of the past for a number of reasons. It is like i said like coke or nike. David but 308 sounds you are buying into American Express. You think financials are doing well andou pick e. Why . So a lot of different areas but American Express, let me say something, you know, buying it at these prices i think, you know, is a market move. I think most of the move has been had and i would be waiting maybe, i would stick my toe in the water with American Express but American Express recently announce ad agreement with wells fargo. They will issue a card to wells fargo customers. They have a new platform for global payments. The way my kids are in the 20s think about banking and credit is a lot different than i think about it. I think American Express will be one of those companies that will be in business for a long time to come. David gary, the way my kids think about everything is totally different from the way i think about it. So i will never get there by doing that, by comparing myself to them, but gary, thank you for coming in. Gary rand, todd horowitz. Good to sigh. Well check in with todd in a couple minutes for the s p futures close. The Auto Industry is on a roll. In a moment well speak with the Top Executive of one brand which just reported its best u. S. Coming up, peter moore, Electronic Arts chief will be joining us to talk about the games he is getting ready at ea for the launch of the ps 4, the Sony Playstation 4. David awful day for apple. Two companies that provide chips for the iphone have been takeing a hit as well. Lets head back to Nicole Petallides on the floor of the new york stock exchange. Nicole. Right. Lets talk about apple was down more than 5 today after falling yesterday and how about the names that are in correlation with the iphone and smartphones and the like . So were looking here at both qualcomm and broadcom and you can see both of these names are to the downside despite the fact that qualcomms a great performer this year, it is up more than 10 but both qualcomm and broadcom are to the downside today as they provide chips for iphones and other smartphones but it could be just a kneejerk reaction as well. Well see what happens in the months ahead. Smartphones, dont they . David i still think they will sell quite a few. The question is whether they will be as much as people want them to sell. Nicole, thank you. Good to see you. S p futures closing in a couple of minutes. Lets head back to todd horowitz, is the pits and our own sandra smith who used to trade at cme is in our newsroom. Even with market gains today there seems to be a hesitancy on the part of traders that you have noticed. Tell us about that. If you look across the spectrum of the commodities market today, everything from oil and gas to gold and silver and copper, there was barely any movement in the commodities. Goldman sachs just came out with a big call. Theyre basically saying they expect commodities to remain flat over the next year. It is on the backburner and looking to the fed and see what their next move will be. The only place, david, they were decisive on commodities is gold. They think gold will go down over the next year because of a less accommodative fed policy other than that, theyre saying they think well maintain these oil prices at triple digit levels but theyre not going to go any higher from here. David todd, what i was getting from the last segment, you see the same kind of hesitancy for the entire market, equities as well, right . I agree. I think the whole market is in a state of flux right now. A lost those questions may be answered next wednesday when the fed comes out and decide what they will do. So traders and investors can actually get clarity what will actually happen for this tapering program. David on the other hand, sandy, we were looking at volume, with our own charlie brady. He said it was about average. It wasnt particularly low. There were a number of traders in there actively trading. So there are participants in this market. It is not just a couple of people. So from a technical perspective, when you have an up move in the stock market on decent volume, one would generally assume there is some conviction behind this rally. While the commodities market might be moving sideways the stock market looks like it is still off to the races. David people are chasing those returns. The only place you can find it these days are with equities. Todd, sandy, great to see you both. Thank you very much. If you heard a car companys Monthly Sales had gone up by a whopping 45 you would want to know how they did it, right . Thats why we asked in subarus head of its american department. When it comes to buying the videogames it is the chicken and the egg syndrome as the industry is poised to pounce on the brand new ps4 console out in november. Sales of games themselves showing depressing decline appear to be stuck on pause. How is game giant Electronic Arts getting ready for the november influx . Well throwing to liz claman, who is joining us with an exclusive interview on exactly this subject. Liz . Liz well its got to be with Electronic Arts. They are one of the largest, most exciting gamesmakers but again that chicken and egg syndrome, you have to wait for the new console. That is how gamers think before they start buying new games. So the gamers and Game Companies have to figure out how do we get all the inventory correct . Lets find out. Were with the head of ea. He is peter moore. Great to have you. Thank you for joining us. Hi, liz. Plsure. Liz once again 3 days in the valley youve been with us many years, it is wonderful. How are you preparing i expect to be onslaught of demand for the playstation 4 games . Weve been preparing for two years. Our developers around the world have 11 games for the nextgen, playstation 4 and xbox battlefield, need for speed, already to go when the platform is launched. Were excited and we have great content coming for game years each of the consoles, whether nintendo or xbox they have a personality when it comes to the gamers that prefer them. What games do playstation, are you expecting playstation 4 gamers when it comes to what they want with ea and your products . Thats a great point. Sports has been popular on playstation. Ea sports brand was built on the playstation platform. The con next tivity that playstation provides connectivity. Games like madden will do exceedingly well powered by the playstation network. Shooters, launching october 29th will be monstrous on playstation 4. Liz seems perfect timing. October 29th, before playstation 15th before the playstation launch. Also on current gen. Lets not forget the playstation 3 and xbox 360. October 29th, battlefield 4. Tough time for the industry. By december the industry logged 13 consecutive months in losses in sales. What can you do to turn that around . By the way, your stock doesnt reflect that negativity. It has been up more than 90 over past year. Our stock reflects the growth in digital which is not tracked by npds of this world. What were not losing or catching up with packaged goods were more than compensating with our digital services, our downloadable content, fifa best example. Over 200 million in that mode alone this fiscal year. Liz mobile is huge. I dont know if you device know this, if you have a kid they love plants versus zombies f they dont theyre lying to you. Bejeweled versus candy crusher, bejeweled franchise, match 3 game mechanickic we all love. Hundreds of millions of people play that. When we think what we have, fifa, battlefield, need for speed, all the titles were bringing to mobile. The mobile business will be part of the fuel of our growth. Liz cost lesses to buy a mobile game, doesnt it, than a packaged game . Cost lesses to develop, thats for sure, and consumer it is free. The Business Model as this game it is free to play. Our job is to engage you hope and you will spend money in microtransactions. Liz peter is at Electronic Arts making games for all the consoles. You came from xbox. Xbox is launching its new console in november as well. How do you not pick a favorite having been there. Oh, i love all liz being here at Sony Playstation. Jack trenton is were platform agnostic. That is who we are at Electronic Arts. We love what both companies are doing now. It is fabulous time for game years he came from sega, you remember that game . How different is the ish r industry is today. How different is the future. It business connected and mobile and digital. I love my roots at sega and microsoft and Electronic Arts we are still a powerhouse in the core packaged goods business. 1. 7 billion in trailing revenue over last 12 months in digital were moving towards an Internet Company that provides game experiences for gamers around the world. Liz once again the stock is up more than 90 . Why havent they made you ceo . Ceo search is ongoing liz. I love what i do. Liz give it to him. Chief operating officer. I have a lot of things to worry about right now. Liz i know. Theyre coming in two months with the launch of playstation 4 and of course xbox. Good to have you. Okay, liz. Liz do you expect a meaningful addition to your bottom line from these two new consoles . Well interestingly enough, fiscal year were still focused on xbox 360 and playstation 3 as the core of our business. Digital is huge growth with games like this and real racing 3. I think fy15, when install base grows and attachment of fiscal year 15, starts april 1st that is when you see liz beauty of peter moore, Electronic Arts, we color coordinate. Im so glad you called this morning. David. David we do indeed, thank you, liz. We have breaking news. Talking about different environment in computer games. Not pleasing barry diller who spoke of regrets having subsidized news week for a while. She will be leaving the tutorship of Barry Dillers iac to start her own publication. Best of luck to her. But even though were living longer, one thing that hasnt changed much is the official retirement age. The question is how do you make sure you have the money you need to enjoy all of these years. David the u. S. Auto industry is bouncing back in a big which with auto sales rising 17 . These are levels that havent been seen since before the 2007 recession. A big standout is subaru. Its Monthly Sales rising a staggering 45 . To find out why lets bring in the guy who has been driving this huge increase. Tom dahl is subaru of America President and ceo. He joins us in a fox business exclusive. Tom, congratulations, talk about blowout numbers. You guys have been doing great. Actually the first question can you meet the demand . Obviously the demand is there. Im wondering can you churn out enough cars and suvs to meet isnt. Thanks, david, it is great to be back on the show. It is a great time to be part of subaru and our franchise and were working on additional capacity. In our summer shutdown in our plant in indiana which makes the forrester and impreza line we were able to increase capacity by additional 20 that would include 40 to 50,000 Additional Units we could produce out of japan. Our factory in ia has ability to boost up production as well. David were looking pictures of forrester. This really blew away most of the expectations about how many were going to be sold. Interestingly, more than half of the people buying these cars are newcomers. How did you pull them over . Well, youre right. You know, when we did the initial Sales Forecast for forrester we were thinking it would be somewhere around an 8,000, 5800unit per month vehicle for us. Last month we sold over 13,000. We are in fact conquesting many other competitive makes and i guess how weve done it is, if you look at the entire package for forrester, the way it drives, allwheel drive, fuel economy, visibility of the vehicle, and the way it handles and drives its a fabulous package people are just now beginning to understand and recognize. David i dont want to bury the real lead here which is the outback. Forrester pulled ahead in Monthly Sales but 81,000 outbacks have been sold this year. 81,000, just so far this year. How many are you expecting for the year . We expect to be somewhere between 115 and 120,000 outbacks. As you point out, david, honestly we really dont know what the top is for outback. Remember next year we get a brand new legacy and outback model. David talk about hybrids though. Theres, something called the cross trek hybrid. A lot of people are looking at it. It looks like a nice car and of course with your success with the forrester and outbacks i dont want to sell it short but on the other hand, youre paying a premium for these hybrids, essentially youre buying another engine with the car and only gets 10 better in fuel efficiency. Do you think people will pay that extra premium for the extra engine with just a 10 increase in fuel efficiency . I think they will, david and i think the reason they will is because with subaru, with our allwheel drive, combined with the, electric power that the vehicles going to represent it will be a real value in the marketplace and it is one of the few suvs at that price point you can take offroad. David i want to stop there and push back. I was bragging the subaru. I have to push back. How much more, how much of a premium do you pay on top of a comparable suv like a forrester . Well, we havent announced pricing yet so we havent determined what the final pricing is going to be, what i can tell you though is, that it is going to be very competitively priced. David is it more than 10 higher than a competitive suv, a regular suv . Well, i think yo have to find out, but i think youre going to be pleased when you finally hear about the pricing. David okay. All right. Electric cars in general have not been doing so well, tom. I know you guys have been criticized because youre not green enough. I havent been criticizing you for that because you give great fuel efficiency with the forrester and outback. Look at lack of success for the cars like chevy volt and leaf, does it make you glad you didnt get into the electric car boom that was a lost it was fueled by government subsidies . , i think in our case because were a smaller manufacturer and a Smaller Company we had to kind of wait and see what was going to happen in the marketplace before we decided to bring out our type of hybrid vehicle into the marketplace. So it gives us the opportunity to survey the market as you point out, david and seeing which products have the potential to do well and i think in our case because of our hybrid, you know, with the fact that you can take it really take it offroad, it fits in when our customers lifestyle and they like to go camping and hiking and biking so forth, this vehicle will provide the utility for all they need. David is it fair to say looking what happened with the leaf and the volt you will avoid the allelectric . At this point, youre right. Ours is combination, you know, it runs off after gasoline. Once the vehicle gets to 20 to 25 Miles Per Hour it will convert over to the internal combustion engine. David tom dahl, who actually started out, i think youre a cpa, right . Youre still a cpa, tom, right . Yes i am. I started out on the financial side of the business and migrated into sales and marketing. It has been a lot of fun. When you look at these numbers you must be a very happy camper indeed. Congratulations on your success, Subaru America really blowing it away with the numbers. Tom, thank you for coming in. Liz have you ever watched chase scenes or love scenes in hollywood movies with the sound down . Without music all the excitement simply disappears. Okay, Sony Playstation absolutely believes in the same music that really engenders a lot of excitement for videogames. Music makes the moment. And the man who helped make the moment here at Sony Playstation and how much effort they put into this, is chuck doud, the director of music here at Sony Playstation. We were just listening what nominated for a grammy, many music under the game journey. First time a videogame music got nominated. Liz we thought it was a bunch of synthesized sounds being put together and smashed in. No, not anymore. Resources applied to videogame music are on par with the best in any entertainment industry. A. , from san francisco, from nashville, to london. We basically let the project inform what we need to do. Musicians sound different in different territories. Studio rooms sound differently. We look to the game to inform us what production resources we need . Liz what do you do in this room now . Here comes the band. These guys are getting ready to track for another cut on second son. Liz this is second son. Hi, guys. Youre on fox business. Hello. Liz these musicians are local or do you bring them in . How do you find them. Man, i love this i dont know if our viewers can hear, so lets step out and there is a lot of percussion there. There is a lot of percussion. Liz so obviously you get some personality of the actual game. Get personality, get attitude. Like we said before, we look at games to inspire us, inform us what to do with the music. Liz so tell me, when you launched playstation 4 a lot of the games have to have that extra something, dont they . They do. I mean like our players expect the best Entertainment Experience out there and music is a huge part of that experience. Liz the camera is coming behind. Here they come. All right. The door is locked. Here comes those are heavy doors. Liz back inside. What is fascinating to me, the effort put in. Again it is not just synthesized. Done electronically. Were out there to produce the best music period. It happens to be produced in videogames. Liz what is touching at a time schools cut back on music classes you need musicians. Videogames will be the engine to bring back music to schools. Liz chuck brings the emotion of music to the background of videogames. Thanks so much. David great music. Liz imagine that.
