Theyre coming well off highs of the session. The nasdaq had been up about 48 points, you see where it is now. The dow had been up 140. Right now up about 66, for the s p 500. Were seeing a gain of 6 points, had been up more than double that. Anything can happen in this final hour. Weve seen it before. This is a very crucial hour right here. And tomorrow most market watchers say we will another have one of two things a relief rally or brexit style tantrum on our hands. Ill throw in a third option. Markets may be flat, who knows . History lesson, if the past is any indication in the time span between the election day of today and inauguration day, stocks have actually performed better under a republican president. The wall street journal crunched some of the numbers and on average, the dow gained about 4. 3 from election day through the inauguration. On the flip side, under a democratic president , the dow dropped 2. 4 . By the way, over time, history tells us stocks do better overall when a democrat is in office. And on this day, trump continued his somewhat lovehate relationship with the polls, seeming to suggest to his supporters if they live in one of those states which the numbers might not be tilting in their direction, essentially not to believe it. Here was trump earlier today. I do think a lot of the polls are purposely wrong. I can almost tell you by the people that do it. The media is very dishonest, extremely dishonest and i think a lot of the polls are phony. Big states, certainly i point to ohio, but more so North Carolina, which well talk about in a moment and by the time its 8 00 on the east coast, pennsylvania and florida and many other states start to come. In with that, look at key ones to watch as i look at the results page on the map. Nothing popping up this year yet, four years ago, look at the map that president obama had against mitt romney. He must take blue florida and flip it red if he has a chance to get to 270 electoral votes tonight. Look at the state of North Carolina. It went to mitt romney in 2012. Remember, back in 2008 when president obama won the first time, he won this state over john mccain. So its been very, very close the last couple of election. Were going to highlight the charlotte area where Mecklenburg County is. Mrs. Clinton needs to run up the score. Particularly africanamerican voters in Mecklenburg County, she has a chance to take North Carolina and put it in the blue column. Second one to look at is where i came home from, pennsylvania, spent the last few days there. There is a lot of talk of donald trump flipping the socalled blue states. Pennsylvania is one he could look at. Look how much ved in pennsylvania. This is the last time around when the president won by 5. Chester county one of four suburban counties that surrounds philadelphia but only one of four that went to the republican last time around, barely did, mitt romney winning it just barely. If donald trump can do well, maybe he has a chance to flip pennsylvania. The other state well look at later on is michigan, similar demographics to pennsylvania. Liz, the problem for donald trump in these types of counties, hes been struggling, in particular, with women voters in the suburbs. If he can turn that around, maybe he can flip the blue states. In a way this should be very encouraging. Means people care deeply about whats happening in our country today. We are getting reports of voters waiting for hours in these specific cities. Nashua, new hampshire. Also hearing about it in burke, virginia, as well as a few others across the nation. I was talking to people here at the New York Stock Exchange. They told me that at certain polling places they were at, they saw lines so long that some people ran out of time and had to leave. But we are also getting reports, and this is a little more problematic, of potential issues with Voting Machines in lucerne county, pennsylvania specifically. Heres what were hearing. Voters trying to cast votes for donald trump saw the machines by accident or who knows, switch to Hillary Clinton. They have gone straight to the people at the polling places, complained about it. Hopefully the votes are counted properly. The lines did not keep one entire University Team here in america from voting today. Coastal carolina head coach joe moglia who happens to be Td Ameritrade chairman, insisted his players register and cast their vote. In fact, he schlepped them there today joe and the team got back from the polls, we thought this incredible story of civic duty is worth telling. How many kids did you get on the buses today . About 100 liz. One of the things for any Football Program in america, youve got to be able to win, im incredibly proud what weve been able to do there. The most important thing going on in the world today is this election. It was important for my guys and for us and for our school, for our Football Team to be part of that. Liz how did you come up with this idea . As i understand it, you can correct me if im wrong, youre the only University Football coach whos doing this, this is a real original thought here. How did you come up with the concept of getting all your team members to register, get them their voter i. D. Cards and get to the polls . Yeah, i would assume, liz, im sure the Service Academies also vote. One of the things we talk about a lot at coastal is when the kids are growing up, they say football is everything, football is like life. You get football right, Everything Else follows. The reality is thats not true. Football is an important game but its a game. How sad is it to get the football piece right and screw up the rest of your life. Every week we give up 30 minutes of practice, i want to repeat that, we give up 30 minutes of practice and we have a session called laf, life after football and talk about the things happening in the world. The most important thing is terrorists. We got involved with terrorism, my guys understand that. I dont think theres a time in history when the world hasnt needed the leadership of the United States. We have a say in that by voting. So with that responsibility to be able to do that, thats the way we originally kicked it off for our guys and guys totally bought in on this. Liz very impressive. Do you get the sense the players were leaning in favor of one candidate or another . Did they talk about that . I went out of my way not to talk about that specifically. Couple of weeks ago we had a mock debate and a guy represent trump and a guy represent hillary, and they opened up the floor to the questions in the room. We were going to go 30 minutes. The thing went an hour. I couldnt be prouder of the questions the guys asked. I had to push practice and the meetings back a bit. Based on the cheers and the reaction in the room, i would say, the team leaned toward hillary. Im guessing, i dont know. Liz whats the number one thing either president should tackle first. Terrorism, the number one threat in the world. If we dont figure that out. The world the way we know it today is not going to be that ten years from now. Tim . It hasnt voted that way since 88. It really hasnt been close you but clearly michigan has become ground zero for the campaign in last five or six days. You know both campaigns have internal polling. They must know it is very, very tight there. There is definitely a buzz on on ground on high population areas. Liz you have family and friends and industries. What are they saying . Working class voter is very highly motivated. The uaw is not as powerful as it used to be 10, 15, 20 years ago. A lot of rankandfile seem inclined to vote with their gut and vote with their head, rather than follow the leadership because typically the uaw is getoutthevote arm for the democratic party. Start with you, senator and governor allen, which ways do you feel is the one to watch . I think right at the beginning, on the eastern time zone, liz, good to be with you and byron. Everyone who hasnt voted watching, get out and vote wherever you are in this country. I think on the eastern seaboard i think marco rubio looks in good shape. Richard burr has a close race in North Carolina. I think very pivotal one will be kelly ayote in new hampshire, which every poll has that really, really close. When you get to the west, hecht in nevada will be a close race too. What happens in the Senate Matters a lot. Byron knows that. The senate has certain is rules and can actually, if it wanted to, do things that are productive and useful and hopefully get our country more competitive in variety of ways. Liz senator dorgan, give me your thought on, tell our viewers, which senate race youre watching, excruciatingly closely for a real sense what happens with the country and congress . There are a lot of them. New hampshire will in first, early on, missouri, indiana, illinois, wisconsin, nevada, North Carolina. There are a lot of races that will be very, very close. Illinois i think we will win. In the end no one knows what is exactly going to happen. I have a hunch, i believe that the democrats will probably take over the senate you but with a very narrow margin, maybe 51 votes, maybe 52. Liz can i ask you, senator dorgan, if the senate were to flip, senator Chuck Schumer would be very top guy. How would that work, if, for example a donald Trump Presidency . We have to wait and see, dont we . We have been through really ugly campaign. This country is a great place. It needs leadership. And george and i served in the congress. One of the oldest members of the congress i got there was clawed pepper from florida and used to describe the constitution, the constitution gives the American People every second year the miracle called grabbing the american Steering Wheel and deciding which way to nudge this country. That is what voting is all about. I think a lot of close races and well be up late tonight. Liz senator allen, i dont want to ignore the house. Speaker paul ryan said before all this drama began that he wants to be in it to win it and he would very much stay speaker. How would that work if donald trump is president because he and donald trump havent exactly gotten along on certain issues. Are you asking me . Liz george. Go ahead, george. I think that would be a nice problem from my perspective to have. I think what they would find is areas of agreement. I think they both awe need to reform tax code for businesses. Both of them would agree, i would hope on bipartisan basis we rethink all the burdens of regulatory red red. I think there is possibility of bipartisan work on infrastructure in this country. Granted they will have some differences but i do think, what the American People want, and people who have supported trump, maybe simply a vehicle to express their outrage or dismay or aggravation or being left behind, there needs to be action in washington. Get connected with people who worry about opportunities and opportunities for their children and i really hope to see action in washington that makes our country more competitive for jobs.
