And its another matter of time before taco bell which succeeded through the drivethrough. We are kind of through, not what with this market, but those egging on the market and doing things way outside of their market revealed. Many of them wont make a lot in terms of dollars and cents. I am calling it a little iffy. Lets go over to dan shafer. And stephen lee. So lets talk about this. Yes, exactly as, the reason is it doesnt work. Historically when companies shift from the major focus some sort of secondary focus, it doesnt work out. I was just looking at symantec the other day. Does the name ring a bell . The old company that used to protect us from security threats. All of a sudden they decided that thats not enough and they bought a storage company. They are fighting to get back to what they were. Spinning the saw six years later after almost no growth. Neil what happened in 2000 . Inside these companies what is happening with apple is that they are getting to a point where they have too much cash and they need another idea to keep this company going. We call it in the moneymanagement business style drift. Drifting away from those that made them who they are today. This happened with ibm when they got into the laptop computer business. They were in the mainframe business and they try to do this with a laptop it took years to recover, so when people are investing in the stocks, they are actually looking at a stock that has the growth of what they had in the past and now they have the. Com exposure from 2000. Neil and im just wondering when they go way beyond their purview, i dont know where the cards fall, but in 2000 back in those days, you had talked about this profits didnt matter and other things. The more money that you lose, the better off it was. And a lot of them make money. Biotech so they dont even have sales and the docs have been flying through the roof. Pc, i think the speculators are in on the tail end of this boom again trying to push the nasdaq to make an alltime high. I dont think its anywhere near this as it is, apple is not a widely valued company. Its not a crazy number. Its the basic thing. If they start burning through all of that cash i mean i dont know. It is a difficult thing. Apple is unique. Is the nasdaq story if you took up a lot of that, is it still the same thing . What happened was not just the overvaluation of the stock but an uptick of Rising Interest Rates which triggered this. And what really triggered it is all of the infrastructure. Neil so you dont see a repeat performance . I do not unless it ties in with international stuff. The one you mentioned the international events. We might not be great but the rest of the world by comparison, we do benefit and look good. And that will remain the case. For the moment because japan is going through a deflationary depression. It has now moved into europe. Spending money is basically flat, banks are charging interest and the reserve banks are charging for banks to leave money there. So how can the United States standalone in a Global Economy when the rest of the world is not spending money and talking about raising Interest Rates here. Its not quite like that. China is still growing at 7 india will grow at 7. 5 . Theres a lot more gdp out there. And these are the imf numbers theres a lot of gdp in that. I think that we are in the mode that will take a lot to trigger a downtrend and theres. I definitely agree with that. I think that there are ingredients out there that data on the cost of triggering it. When the margin comes through, theres trillion dollar of derivatives out there that nobody can account for this can get into the technology area. Absolutely. As far as the threat goes you dont have to worry about it, you have to see the whites of their eyes. Neil thats an interesting expression because you can always see the whites of their eyes. [laughter] i have no sense of humor. [laughter] neil in the meantime, forget about if the markets are rigged. You are getting robbed whether it is the case or not. Look no further than your brokers. The president seems to be convinced. If your Business Model rests on taking advantage getting hard working retirement americans out of their retirement money, they shouldnt be in business. Its very straightforward. Neil come on, really . Why did he make that sound like a given . Is it me or is the president assuming the worst of capitalists in general and then assuming that they are screwing wall street and eu. All of this comes a little more than a week after eric her quarter watch the 90 day crusade, strongly hinting it was not done pursuing big bank settlements. Steve moore says its clear that this administration cannot stand wall street. And he added particularly steve moore. So what is going on . This seems to be a constant drumbeat of things. Yes, this is a declaration of war against wall street, and by the way you mentioned what happened last week. Three weeks ago the president wants to dramatically increase the Capital Gains and dividend patterns. So what the president said in that clip was absolutely true. Obviously brokers have a fiduciary duty to have the best interest of the client. So does anyone doubt that . They do not. It just seems that its more then you know that are doing this. If he is just talking about more disclosure and the fees that the brokers are getting i dont have a problem with that. The people in the industry are terrified that these new regulations will come with all sorts of policies and then its going to be heyday for the trial lawyers. Every time someone loses money they start you know, suing their brokers. Neil i always look at it as is anyone in government, let alone the president , and i think you have to wonder about this. Him lecturing others on financial advise is it can do me saying do not go there, you just dont go there. Is that why we dont have any trust . You know, we have to watch it. We cant have them doubting or spending money that you know you dont have. The other thing i would add is that when i see these regulations i always look out for what Milton Friedman called the law of unintended consequences and we saw that big time with doddfrank the last time we got massive financial regulations. That was supposed to stop the big banks and its done just the opposite. The big banks are getting bigger and the Smaller Banks are getting eaten up by the whales. That kind of thing will happen if you pass these regulations and the small brokers are going to be the one to bear the cost of this. Neil well put good to see you, my friend. Onto this stuff here. Is it time to quit banking on Chris Christie . Is it time to stick a fork in Chris Christie . The president ial rival pushing his fundraiser was not enough. A judge has handed him a 1. 5 million bill payable now. Ordering the governor to put a lease at march into a pension fund what he had put off paying to balance the state budget. Over to another judge as to why bridgegate isnt seeking his prospects. So he sees what is going on. What do you think . You know, this is adding up. This thing is a weird case. You may recall in 2011 or governor Chris Christie engaged in hard negotiation several hundred thousand members and i was once not in the labor union but i was once a state employee and part of the pension system. Im not on the pension. I was too young be that as it may. He negotiated a terrific deal in which the workers themselves contributed more and the state guaranteed its own contribution and then he drafted a statute and the legislature enacted and signed it into law. And then it was turned for them they enacted a budget 1. 57 billion, the governor exercised this veto and crossed it off and he signed the rest of the budget off. And the judge said he negotiated this deal . Why dont you want to comply with it. And so here is the serious problem. He argued that the he negotiated was unconstitutional. But wait a minute, you negotiated it and you wrote the statute and you signed the statute and he went around the country saying that this is the way to govern in new jersey. And so where is it going to come from . People like me and you, that is where its going to come from. I dont think the bridge thing was ever an issue. But i think that these kinds of issues and how the state is doing is going to come back to bite him much more. He not only argued that the statute crafted was unconstitutional, but that Economic Times in new jersey were so bad that the state lacked the ability to comply with contractual obligation. Neil he was supposed to change that completely but he actually double down on it. He has a big powerful personality. The people around him think that that is going to play well in the debate. But its a question about the stewardship, these are difficult times. Are they better . Worse . All of these are tangible measures. He is proposing more spending than the state has ever gone through before and that does not include the 1. 5 billion that the judge ordered him last night point. He could get badges off your property. Lets not go there. [laughter] neil thank you judge. No wonder jeb bush is smiling. All of his main street rivals seems to be disappearing. Ok, if youre up there, i could use some help. Smart sarah. Seeking guidance. Just like with your investments. That sets you apart. It does . It does. Youre type e. And seeking another perspective is what type e s do. Oh, and your next handhold. Is there. You dont have to go it alone. E trade gives you the support and guidance to make informed decisions. Are you type e . You get sick you cant breathe through your nose. Ddenly. Youre a mouthbreather. Well, put on a breathe right strip and instantly open your nose up to 38 more than cold medicines alone so you can breathe and sleep shut your mouth and sleep right. Breathe right. You just got a big bump in miles. So this is a great opportunity for an upgrade. Sound good . Great. Because youre not you youre a whole airline. And its not a ticket youre upgrading its your entire operations, from domestic to international. Which means you need help from a whole team of advisors. From workforce strategies to Tech Solutions and a thousand other things. So you call pwc. The right people to get the extraordinary done. Hes out there. Theres a guy out there whose making a name for himself in a sport where your name and maybe a number are what define you. Somewhere in that pack is a driver that can intimidate the intimidator. A guy that can take the king 7 and make it 8. Heck. Maybe even 9. Make no mistake about it. Theyre out there. I guarantee it. Welcome to the Nascar Xfinity series. Im almost done. [ male announcer ] now you can pay your bill. Manage your appointments. [ dog barks ]. And check your connection status. Anytime, anywhere. [ dog growls ] oh. So youre protesting . Okay. [ male announcer ] introducing xfinity my account. Available on any device. Neil Chris Christie thinking . Jeb bush benefiting . From what political donors tell us theres a bigger part of the Florida Governor consolidating the republican vote and leaving all other prospective candidates in his financial weight. Everybody. Stop. Is it me or are we dotting the is and crossing ts before the iowa state fry before it happens . Its a lot of money. But i still wonder if its all that smart. For one thing, things change and for another this is changing as well. Just think about that. That would be like right now pending on the new york yankees to win it all before spring training gets going let alone the baseball season itself. Especially when you consider the yankees are still the most extensive. Yet political tides come it is happening because the upfront money has gone so important. Think mitt romney back in 2012 even george bush back in 2000. Money in the bank makes you look like like that. But i just find it a little odd that those that have the smarts to have all that dough where they are willing to look like and frankly it is all too much for me to handle. So let us people who know a thing or two about this. So lets ask our guests. Over to you why should we say that jeb bush had that money remapped. Right now republican donors want to driver a trifecta. They are looking for a 2016 republican president ial land. They feel like they know bush and i feel like he would be best up against hillary. Neil what you make of it . I take nothing away from jeb bush remarkable governor, but im just saying its way too early to start placing chips on the side of the table. Literally everything you said in your monologue and in a question i agree with, you are right. We are six months aware from even the first Republican Debate and to call things over what is wildly premature. I will say and you made this point the fact that he was able to chase jeb bush, basically help chased mitt romney out of getting in and try to poach some donors is having some success in Chris Christies backyard, if he can lock up this centerright establishment wing of the party, that is certainly make this easier to envision. Neil that shows a certain mark of alien brilliance that i do admire. But i just wonder whether that carries him where the money carries him to the end because its smart folks like you remind me that the guy with the most money or even Hillary Clinton doesnt even when always. That is true, but money likes to follow money and no one likes to be left behind. I think that a lot of donors are giving to bush and i know theyre doing so early, i know that he has been in federal states and a lot of donors have hosted fundraisers for him. Neil have any of them actually switched sides . Or is scott walker getting nickeled and dimed for that . I will tell you what is happening is that a lot of people have been asked to be on a Committee Like a finance chairman or finance committee for bush. Ive been getting a couple of calls asking me well im watching walker. What do you think about this or that. So while they are going to give money and give it early now they may be hesitant on taking a position like state finance chair, being a part of the Committee Like women for bush and what not because it ties into the campaign and it has been very hard to get out if you take a position to kind of get out and then all of a sudden finance another candidate. So i think that is where a lot of people are trying to make a decision. Neil you are one of those young conservatives, are they still looking around . I know we heard the phrase earlier reliable brand and i interned in the Bush White House and have great affection for the bush family and think that they are great americans and patriots. Jeb bush is very talented and has a very good record to run on in the state of florida. But it might be a reliable brand or a strong brand, a known brand for the american people, but something that he absolutely has not closed the sale on yet and hes going to have to figure out how to do this is to tell not as Republican Voters but potentially the general electorate is that the bush brand is baggage that they are happy to hire for the presidency for a third time and that is definitely a tall task for him. Neil that is a good point. We appreciate it. Republicans fighting security funding. They are actually attacking immigrant families. I meant to say illegal but he didnt do that. Why do you think he didnt do that . We will be back the real question that needs to be asked is what is it that we can do that is impactful . What the cloud enables is computing to empower cancer researchers. It used to take two weeks to sequence and analyze a genome; with the microsoft cloud we can analyze 100 per day. Whatever i can do to help compute a cure for cancer, thats what id like to do. Neil guess what is shaking . Bacon. And a lot of you are canting for more bacon and it seems like your ship has come in because Little Caesars bacon wrapped pizza is here. I showed it to the world, all three and a half feet of it. Just when i thought that i was wining and dining, they did some serious out sizzling. He just ate a record 6 pounds of bacon in five minutes. So im going to let this sit for you. Fox Business Network is the place for bacon. Oh, work with me. Meanwhile, when harry met sally . Hairy reed tweeting on republican efforts. Why would we want resources away from real threats so that republicans can deport dreamers . And darrell issa heard all of that and he doesnt know where to start. I will start with the fact that you mentioned pork was discussed and that he went to the house of representatives. [laughter] i did, indeed. I wonder what you think was really going on here with what the president so what if did you make of that . I would think that harry reid is delusional. But if we want to secure the borders and make sure that the working population is here deporting at least some people that are here illegally and not giving a blanket pass to some 5 million people. Did you notice he didnt say immigrants families reign and it was very carefully worded. You know, if an al qaeda cell comes over the mexican border, i would certainly hope that we are looking at the border and looking at our priorities and saying, okay, we do want to stop the most dangerous terrorists and drug dealers and human traffickers. But we also want to stop and return people who are here illegally and make them get in line so the same immigrant communities neil what is happening is they are trying to position you as trying to gut Homeland Security funding so that all of the bad guys come in and kill us. You know how this plays out . Even though this was tuned to focus on the part of what he is doing in staving off these deportations. But that is not the way that the media is playing it and you just heard, its not the way that harry reid is playing it. Harry reid has never been one to use the fax of the truth when alternatives are going to work. We are willing to give 100 funding for everything that the president is going to do. Taking that funding, using it in a way that was by no means ever a statute or an intent. Neil he says theres no sort of thing as a line item budget. The u. S. Federal judge has told him that there is, they are repealing it, but for now a competent judge with a lifetime appointment has ruled that he was wrong and the second time, he was right the first 30 or 40 or 50 times when he said he didnt have the Legal Authority with what is now doing. The president conveniently changes his own truth and he says it year after year and suddenly hes doing it and says of course i have Legal Authority and Eric Holders Justice Department is having him a piece of paper saying it. 64,000 documents a judge he appointed said that no, you have to deliver them. So if we get into federal court, when we get in i believe that we will prevail but the congress is on the right side of the law. Neil thank you dear liza. Its good to see you again. So why does crooked side of the white house . How can you have a holy war ifou want only one side is copd includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. See your authorized dealer for exceptional offers through mercedesbenz financial services. Neil we might have a problem. Lets just say that i says has no problem targeting those that are simply christian. Nearly 100 christians in syria on us. Republican senator asking john kerry what he sees here. Atomics extremists, radicals, islamic fundamentals. We have a lot of thrill seekers and we have adventures and loves, we have a mix of opportunists. Neil i dont know if the senator got his answer. I didnt. Well, i think that the lack of strategy and lack of moral clarity is on full display. This is a president that called isis the jv team a little over a year ago, he has had a Success Story since back in september and now has fallen to this. So this lack of moral clarity is concerning to me and all americans. Neil do you think is not calling him anything were giving him a name would change the posture . Because whatever we are calling them are not calling them, they seem to have the upper hand and see a lot of guys get killed in this disproportionate number of christian guys. What do you make of that . Leadership stops at the top and starts at the top. We saw a spokesperson that talked about this the answer is changing Economic Opportunities in the middle east. And we are going to solve this problem and this is an ideological challenge. To say that you cut it lets say that this country disengaged, avery young males that might change the game. Do you agree with that . No doubt that its a complicated problem. But think about what happened on 9 11. It was terrorist that had our country, the largest in our nations history those were bunch of well educated individuals they came back and hit us and this is not about what we do but who we are. And so its so important if we win with a strategy and start defining the enemy. Neil it looks like they could be taking this very close, that is a game changer, dont you think . While stepping back and thinking about isis in iraq and syria, libya and afghanistan taking look at vocal raum take a look at what is going on in yemen and we have to define what the real enemy is. Its radical islam and until we define the enemy i dont think that will have adequate strategies to win. Neil senator, thank you so much. Very good questions very much appreciated. But who knew these critics are no act. [announcer ] what if one stalk of broccoli could protect you from cancer . What if one push up could prevent Heart Disease . Neil here is what is crazy. Keystone and Willie Nelson singing the blues. Maybe because he and actors like Robert Redford and others are more than a hundred crazy entertainers were urging the president not even think of entertaining, authorizing the keystone pipeline. They say its bad for the environment and country, bad for country music. And so because of willie . To let me be clear katie says it is just so. If john wayne were alive. This is actually a very positive groove of energy good for the environment. I actually had an opportunity to interview scientists with the Nongovernmental International Panel on climate change. And they are actually represented by 14 different countries. As i talk to them and they said that they fact check of the sanctions and found that theres no evidence of human induced negative global warming. Neil when it comes to all of this, they are all get good at what they do. I just think that it would be like me commenting on nuclear energy. But this you know. We have an issue where people have huge egos and are constantly being told they are wonderful, beautiful, everything is great. And at the same time guilt for the fact that they are jet setting all over the place, cruising around and escalates. The average american isnt living that way and so they cannot see this for what it is. Neil why and how could it change the debate right now . And they are saying hey, this pipeline is bad. You shouldnt pay a pension for this. If you look at this that obama enlisted for obamacare, political just came out with your court saying that even with katie. Other celebrities he was not successful in getting young people to sign up for obamacare. And i mean more than he should have. Could they put him into a corner because there others in the party as well . Not hollywood celebrities that you want this . Well, hopefully he will do the right thing, but it sounds like he was adamantly opposed to it and the thing that is going to change his opinion is when one of these natural disasters that happened last week in West Virginia there was a car and train carrying 3 million gallons that derailed just 35 miles away from charleston if that had happened any closer to charleston, he would be Going Forward with keystone because people would understand what a huge tragedy it is. [inaudible] whether or not we should be drilling . I think it would absolutely embolden us and make it tough in this situation. The trains cannot carry that crude oil. You are very clear. Thank you very much. In the meantime, imagine inheriting some were of wisdom from jfk. He wrote letters, but he kept them generally to friends or immediate family members. Not this family that discovered he wrote a bunch of them to their relatives. But this is fascinating. Sprucing up homes. That is sending the price of home depot shares skyrocketing. To tracy byrnes on what this could mean for the housing market. Perhaps a shift in strategy. It was the hope that maybe one day housing prices will rebound. He will have as ready to show potential buyers. And it is a concept, definitely. I think that i think that people sitting on their hands supply is down, theres nothing out there even if you want to buy. And i think that we are sitting on their hands and we think Interest Rates are going to stay low forever. And the value isnt there. And it cost money to move. There are so many outofpocket costs involved with moving the people are just not doing it. Not so great for the economy. Neil everything i ever wanted for home depot is part of this. After a month of decline, you know, this has been going on for 29 or 30 days in a row. And we have a bunch of refineries. And so we have this were we can blame them for a little bit. I think that consumers probably know at this point enjoy these prices. We are going to Start Talking about gas prices. We are right on the cusp and so many things can happen. You can say i know that we have this, but now there is a separation. Yes, there is. I dont know the price on gas or oil, what its going to be, we do have a Global Supply especially in the production of United States it has changed the game in terms of making opec less relevant. But in the meantime consumers should take their savings, put it towards retirement funds, something that they can rely on in the future. [talking over each other] okay, we started the show talking about this revisiting the old days. My argument has been that i dont think that its crazy, but i do think that we have a risk of getting this revisited. What do you think . I know that its a very different now. Yet so many people have missed this. Why is that . Dont you want to scream at them and say at least put your 401k in there.
