vladimir putin seeks closer military ties with china. the russian president so overture gets a guarded welcomed asian is officially neutral over the war. new crimes and china reopens its borders. after nearly 3 years of coven 19 travel restrictions, but other nations are worried by facings. rising infection numbers ah, i'm public holiday us, welcome to the program. a u. s. house committee has released 6 years of donald trump's tax returns, the former president ford for years to keep them secret. last week the democratic controlled house ways and means committee voted to release trumps tax records from 2015 to 2020. they're likely to provide new revelations about his finances. trump was the 1st presidential candidate in decades who refused to release his tax records. and this all comes with republicans, a bag to take control of the house of representatives. well d, w, corresponded to me so much kind of has more from washington, dc. to me, great to see you. so this was a legal battle of several years to get the documents released. they finally been released. so what previously unknown information have they revealed so public, we've learned important details about how much the former president did and did not pay in taxes. we learned more about how much he donated over the years. we learned about some of his foreign holdings and also how some of his businesses performed. and for example, we knew already that he didn't pay any federal income tax in the year 2020. that's because his businesses took some big hits because of a pandemic. but what is interesting to see is that the amount of federal income tax that he paid varied a lot from year to year. so i'm gonna throw some numbers out at you. so for example, he paid just $750.00, a federal income tax in the year 2017, a year later, nearly $1000000.00 and a year after that $133000.00. so a big difference there, as you can see, and these documents really reveal that trump used deductions, he took losses in his businesses and that reduce the amount of tax id he owed significantly and asked for donations. the charitable contributions that i mentioned that also fluctuated quite a bit. so he reported donating nearly $2000000.00 in 2017 and then nothing in 2020 . and one more point that was really interesting. pablo, it was, it was interesting to see that he held financial accounts in foreign countries, including china, through the 1st year of his presidency. a lot of people here in washington asking questions about that. yeah, plenty of questions, i'm sure that are going to be asked in the coming days to me. one of the reactions there been to the release tax documents. well, it won't surprise you public that the reactions have fallen along partisan line. so, democrats have long said that this is important for transparency. and when one of the democrats in the committee that published these returns, said on friday that these documents show that trump had something to hide, that he used questionable deductions and tax avoidance scheme to get out of paying federal income tax republicans. on the other hand of said, this is private business, this does not need to be made public and they are now warning revenge. so they're threatening to make public tax returns of private citizens. the supreme court justices, business leaders, political enemies as they call them. and you mentioned already that republicans will have a majority in the house of representatives starting next week. i do want to mention what trump himself has said. he says that these returns show how successful he's been and that he was able to use tax deductions to create jobs. so to wrap that up, i mean there is no law requiring presidents to publish their tax returns, but tradition a has called for them to do so. president joe biden released his return, stating back 22 years when he was running for office. but trump, they're breaking with tradition. to me, tell us this, could these documents cause an issue for donald trump on his run for president in 2024? it doesn't appear that they will. i mean, observers your seem to locate that these documents do not indicate any sort of legal wrong doing. and person trump supporters have stood squarely behind them through state and federal investigations and controversies. so these tax returns are not likely to, to shake that core group of supporters and for moderate democrats, this is for them proof that the former president has lied once again. so although it's important to have these documents on record, especially if we know that he's running again in 2024, it is not likely to move the needle much if at all public interesting stuff. thanks to me. deed overuse, to me. so misconduct in washington, dc. many fact vladimir putin has cold for closer military cooperation with china. the russian president was speaking during a video summit with the chinese eater, seizing ping, though beijing has not condemned the worn ukraine. it also hasn't given russia any direct support. moscow's latest airstrikes have left much of ukraine without power . but if you're in missouri with a letter with a more attacks from russia on ukrainian cities round off to round of drawings and cruise missiles, even though ukraine's here defenses are largely holding up falling debris from the intercepted rockets still calls as significant damage. as this woman and keith looks on in her children's bedroom glass everywhere, vladimir putin held talks with his chinese counterpart. the video cole happened to take place on the 100 then over 3 of the founding of the soviet union. its demise is something putin bitterly regrets. together he and shooting ping want to stand up to pressure from the waist. and putin, at least once closer, military cooperation with beijing. we're a special place in russian chinese relations is occupied by military and technical cooperation. this contributes to the security of our countries. we aim to strengthen cooperation between the armed forces of russia and china get in a difficult international situation. we are ready to build up strategic cooperation with russia. provide each other with development opportunities and be global partners for the benefit of our peoples. china's official stance on putin's war is being quite objective and fair. she told pierson that position isn't changing and that the road to peace would not be smooth. putin, cold, she, his dear friend, with and invited him to moscow early next year. you was or very me or earlier did on his phone to vienna, jack a rover, who runs the austrian institute for european and security policy. and we asked if china was just as keen as russia for closer ties. it seemed so though we don't know exactly the scope and scale of dar military technology curve cooperation between these 2 states. a lot hasn't been revealed yet. so we have heard about the intentions about their plans, a lot of military exercises ah, that has been conducted. and even during a restless war against ukraine, a butter this sir domain is obviously the one that is going to be exploited and explored in the years to come. obviously, russia has become completely dependent on china to bypass to western sanctions. some even describe it as a vessel of china or a junior partner, but china also needs to support russia in this critical critical phase alpha rash swore because it has to avoid that anew. as security vacuum could emerge in the north of its borders next to the military tensions, wheat, india along the line of actual control, as well as the military escalation, the straight to for a town. so it's not an altruistic relationship. it's a really based on reale politic national interests, and i anticipate that the military corporation will a further deepen and increase more countries, including france and israel are requiring people arising from china to show negative coven 19 tests. beijing has reopened its borders after nearly 3 years of pandemic travel restrictions. but china, surgeon corona virus infections are making other countries nervous. a moment to remember for these passengers in china. nationwide travel has opened up again in the world's most populous nation. beijing's decision to loose in its cove at 19 restrictions in early december was a welcome surprise for many years on cairo they should indeed open up and i'm supportive of this. everything including travel is getting more convenient. i'm going back to my home town now. finally, i can go home, it's great. you know, it's hillary, i'm really looking forward to traveling internationally again because i haven't gone abroad to ski for a long time. all i'm a professional skier, so i can't wait to ski abroad again. while of the rules surrounding international travel will be relaxed on january 8th ahead of the lunar new year. china's busiest travel season, but a surgeon cove at 19 cases has prompted other countries to already impose restrictions on arrivals from china. the us, japan and south korea are among those now requiring a negative test. italy and spain have also introduced restrictions despite the use health agency saying such measures are unnecessary. chinese state media called the testing requirements discriminatory with china, 0 covey policy winding down an infection. numbers going up, traveling like it's 2019, could be a long way off. well, here's a look at some more stories making headlines around the world. police in the u. s. state of pennsylvania have arrested a suspect in the killing of fort university of idaho students last month. they were found stabbed to death in their beds and were likely asleep when attacked. the 28 year old suspects has been charged with 1st degree murder. it's still unclear
