Im studying now tenth grade and the german language. In the first days i was nervous because its like when you can train even your people i dont know anyone. Im lame yes im eighteen and i mean thirteenth grade but its obvious im getting my High School Diploma this year and that im gone i dont know any of a school like this for me sure there are elements like in a regular school but there is more freedom i like that about. Being on the market. To be able to. Change being you know. Even. Trying. Downtown poland at the Lutheran High School airspeed easy a new Academic Year has begun this Project School was founded by adventurous parents ten years ago they wanted an alternative for their children to the traditional german school. That concept a more imaginative institution communicating not just knowledge but human values. Catalina tire helped establish the s. P. C. She is now its principal and is deeply committed to this revolutionary approach. It with controlling we have to rethink schooling maybe not completely but we need to for example take away the old system thats been in place for two hundred years and think about schooling from the students perspective thats what makes a school good how do we encourage participation what do students need to know how should we teach skills what abilities will the kids need in twenty or thirty years but the day when we look at schooling from the perspective of the last century it doesnt encourage innovation that will have. A new concept of education schooling from the students perspective the kids are encouraged to show initiative. In the classroom there is student focus method plays out as an alternative to teachers centered education. Students are encouraged not merely to study new subjects but to play an active role and to think for themselves learning by discovering. Six times a year theres a project week called. During this week that students focus exclusively on a topic they themselves have chosen. And it was that. There are lots of different topics from scenarios of the future like an open to present Day Nutrition or more rhetorical stuff like speech analysis. Then years chose a literary project with student teacher florians event. And you can get us all in this column so were looking at the book deals it came out last summer written by an israeli author the historian youve all heard. About homer dares he constructs a vision of the future in which he predicts that as a result of technical advances better networking and digitalisation we will increasingly abolish homo sapien and become god like humans and so ive got to mention that the students are expected to form their own opinions of this vision of the future and instead of presenting their interpretations vocally they must develop an imaginative boardgame in this experiment they discover how they are able to influence the future and where it cant be controlled. Our topic was work twenty thirty. Extended the whole thing its now work twenty fifty in this game we want to explore how work will change during this period what. Jobs will disappear and what effect this will have on the human race in the game we assume a negative scenario in which people have to fight for jobs and robots or technical advances dont make life easier but take away the joy. Of jobs and. Im interested in the topic work in the future because it affects me personally so of course its interesting to think about whether for instance there is any point in studying medicine when in the future everything will be done by robots. And i wont be able to find a job. That. The school has started taking foreign students mostly refugees however zimmer comes from a privileged family in syria she attended an International School and wasnt directly affected by the civil war. At the e. S. B. Z. M. Balin she has come into contact with many refugees welcome students they offered intensive language courses parallel to the other subjects mathematics history and so forth. I like german its a good language but its a its harder than other languages i heard before and its really harder to study them in english arabic. I was struggling with. That if. Youre. For the presentation im going to talk about race and what is that what was it for and were going to talk about who discovered it and words to are the good things and what are the best things to. Just an electron like a notice follow on this very untidy forms. I must. Have. Really hard physical german. Thats hard but the topic is interesting but. I felt like for we the foreigner we could have a recess and thanks god i did the experience that. Some of my friends experienced. I feel excited about joining german classes for german people because i want to know whats the atmosphere like they turned so. Tina and zion also knew in advance great to encourage them to found the students meet up outside of school at a time in germany. This is also part of the e. S. P. Zs concept. But. Tolerance and acceptance of each other are key values promoted by the school for students must learn to get on in spite of their different backgrounds and levels of performance. Its a challenge for all of them teachers as well as old students and new ones. Its friends send us because i think its nice that weve now distributed the welcome students in the classes and theyre not in separate groups. Sometimes its a bit tedious when you have to keep explaining something but its also kind of nice to integrate people this way and to make sure you manage to include them so i think its definitely our job to include the students because they cant be integrated just by the teacher is the cohesion of the class is important and that we grow together. When i first come i had no friends like also the welcome class were not too kind because they thought im not nice to them so at that time i felt like i just want to go back to syria i dont want to be here without friends. And the climbing thing i was afraid to fall down and i was really embarrassed that i was afraid of what people were like so helpful they told me i can do it. So when we finished i told myself that i couldnt do it why am i so scared. My classmates are really kind theyre like oh nice and so but its like a weirdo till now because i didnt know them but they were going to manage this. Since. Their schooling conjures the kids to talk about what i have experienced but why they learn from each other today as a group working on a project called challenge report back on their experience. To watch in small groups from them and without a teacher supervising for three weeks it wasnt easy to tackle the everyday problems without much money and relying on their own results. And the fall out too much fun we cycled along the river mine from my road to minds it wasnt planned we just had train tickets and reservations for three nights so tickets out the rest we had to improvise. So yes. It was a real challenge we had to be very direct and ask people if they could put a sub for the night. But it worked out just fine. I was amazed at how nice people were. In how they invited us to sleep over. And thats when i walk by the condor. The School Principal kathleen attire carries the responsibility for these challenges. But she says experience the students gain is worth the risks. By the halls for the home and leave. You to set in the challenge the students discover their potential. They learn that they can achieve their goal as part of a group and despite their differences or in the end they discover that they are given support when they arrive. In common. As at almost all the groups experience this that they are welcome and that theyre part of the world and theyre part of a larger community. And i closed my tough its a key aspect of the e. S. P. Zero experience the challenge project is part of the schools curriculum. Its finished third challenge and shes ready to report back on her experience. Group hiked one hundred sixty kilometers through the black forest on their own. And i have also brought along for much the hiking itself was a challenge for us none of us had been on more than a five day hike and we were all a bit scared. A little bit. Im typing thirty kilometers and wonder. Which is really a lot even for experienced hikers. It was because we got lost i think we walked fifteen kilometers in the wrong direction we were all totally finished but we were incredibly proud of every one of them a story. And from this what i missed most was a permanent home. Challenge always a pilgrim every day we didnt know where wed be spending the night we were always footloose and im not someone who enjoys that. Challenge or learned a lot about people and about conflict and thats we had a lot of arguments but we always made up again. And i realized that its necessary to talk about problems otherwise they dont get better. Than the next best are but i think people learn Different Things that maybe not everyone learns to cope with challenges but they learn other things from actually and might have also got along so good now but after being on. At the end of their literary project line youre sent his Group Present the game they have invented. What. A game is called the new agenda you have to fight your way back to the job market and win points at various stages in your life and im. Learning by playing that means thinking out of the box recognizing the social relevance why. Learning thats hard from the Vantage Point of a single subject. So the projects always combine several aspects and show how they are related. The trick is to bring together as many issues as possible in one project which doesnt generally happen in conventional teaching. Theres a skill. Thats the big challenge for us to see how free we can. Rise in this week but also to make the week relevant to the High School Diploma the students also have the option of writing an alternative exam here we have the subjects of social studies in religion all the other subject combinations are not apostles. In the sounds a little pressure coming up. On down. For instance you can get an event card saying your granny has died and lose the happiness point in your private life looks. Like the happiest points in hospital you collect the health points. And you have to go immediately into private life and interrupt your career a bit because you have to balance all three. It was. So unique i havent seen anything like them anywhere and they are great opportunities of course because they focus on lots of topics that dont come up in the classroom or very seldom. As. Its learning to direct things yourself to take responsibility for things in a small area so thats what we try to encourage over and above the school subjects. The human aspects practice and experience how to manage conflicts to win and lose family thats what these c. B. C. Is about in addition to the conventional learning a vocabulary mathematical formula and historical facts. School is pretty unusual we have lots of special projects and i think its interesting that were still in the developmental phase and keep trying new things. But sometimes were very disorganized suddenly something doesnt take place or something does take place and nobody knows about it. Thats why its sometimes rather difficult to keep track of whats happening. So i guess. Yesterday there was a parents evening that i didnt know about my partner sent me a photo from the link and texted me theres lots of interesting new changes of course that makes me a bit nervous. We are Like Laboratory rats most of the time thats very nice because it opens up lots of opportunities but of course sometimes there are things that dont work out to stand on to so much fun as with thought. There are always lots of new initiatives in the school to improve the life we share and every other week there is a meeting of the whole school. It is seen to feed us busy is ten years old we said anybody can celebrate a decade were going to celebrate eleven years of e. S. P. See. Thats typical of us. In the School Meeting theres a thing called tributes students and staff can come forward. Tom and i would like to call somebody to the front my big brother. But isnt. An individual its praised for helping somebody in the school or even outside and teachers praise the class for working especially hard for an exam. Of course. Because what. I. Appreciate in each out there is a key value but some people might think theres too much emphasis on a christian ethos at the e. C. B. Easy. Some of the students seem to bury their own little conflict under the larger conflicts in the world harmony at all costs. So. Its an issue discussing current news an Important Development because there are conflicts all over the world and of course we try to make our life together was nice and the good as possible. But in a small way there are often issues in the school that have to be addressed and its important to remind ourselves of that from time to time. Sometimes people fight because of choirs and if nothing like a couple of times there really is. I think were. Different but the main main things the saying we share the same we all believe in the same thing. So why are people leaving all of this and just fighting for the small details i think at the end. Although the easy peasy is the Church School it is open to students of any faith however all students have to attend classes in pakistan christianity. Declaring is not to indoctrinate them but to provide a platform to discuss their own ethical and religious ideas. Its students are just now struggling with puberty so its natural for them to be a bit critical of religion. Comes with the territory. With the most i dont think you have to accept that. And thats thats not what we give them the opportunity to look at various religions and expressions of faith goodness kites this week i see them fairly going on with fashion and its up to them to decide whether something appeals to them or not i had ceased to put it in the end because thats passed me this past. School doesnt try to convert their students or insist that they believe in god but the christian values of tolerance and love of ones neighbor are taught as well as everything that characterizes germanys democratic system and its open society the Teaching Staff represent protestant peers but the fundamental principle of religious freedom is upheld. If i can say openly that i dont believe in god and its not an issue of course some students know more things than me when it comes to certain subjects but it balances out and i dont have any problems with that. Actually im not aware that any more person people like someone weird but for a couple theres like a friend for the now i learned much more i could now speak more in german and i have more friends. Than. Kerry and the school muslims dont feel different they were spoke to us and we dont feel i dont belong here i go every one of us respect. My how much i. Have a voice. That we like to take some students who. Not baptized and dont belong to any christian denomination. Fifty five the key issue for me is having diversity in the School Living and learning under one roof to. Time just want to our motto is protestant bold and tolerant our aim is to question things in our teaching and in the schools philosophy. Also in what we teach. And we definitely want to students to think critically. When i finish school its going to be like plunging into cold water because i still cant do a lot of the things that are expected of me out there. But i think its cool prepares us. Maybe warms the water a little for. Those of us in. The beginning i was asking my family where should i go to do something and so but now im proud of myself depending on myself to build your own life. I dont really know what to do out there in this school but i really would like to go to get in first. And so i could. I hope for a positive word in the future we could be all together again like no more. But i think its a bit hard. I think were definitely privileged in germany and in the global perspective there will be important issues that well have to tackle as a community. Which one. Im interested in a whole lot of things i would like to go to another country i really like to study in another country but i dont know what im doing be any. Len. I think as soon as i finish school ill travel to see the world other places that i dont know yet are ones i always wanted to visit but i did and ill buy them by end at some point im going to acting school read it ive always wanted to do that ever since i was little but that is slow enough that i think the world will definitely change in the future i dont know whether for the better or for the worse but i think my generation can definitely make things a lot better than a gun.
