Make groups with the good morning stephanie stall. The curtain shut with musicians from around the world. Starts feb second d. Double. Clicked. Day two at the World Economic forum and its time for business sunday dont we all where we bring you close to the action our reporters have been talking to top politicians Young Leaders and creative entrepreneurs all with thoughts and ideas you dont want to miss heres whats coming up. Dresses the World Economic forum in challenging times for europe and the global economy. Also want to show how african organizations are providing solutions for the growing population in their continent and to meet the lion share project that brings companies together to help the environment without losing business. Welcome to this special edition of d w Business Time how you know i guess the german chancellor came to davos this wednesday and addressed the public reminding them of the importance of germany in europe and the world but her speech comes at a pivotal time for the old continent and as you can hear from members of her own cabinet the German Government is preparing for uncertain times. What will the german chancellor have to say about breaks it that question raised a lot of interest in davos instead she just shook hands with the founder of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab and went into the congress hall. I admired the german minister of economics and technology was more willing to provide his point of view. The German Economy is turning well we had Economic Growth last year and well have more Economic Growth this year but of course praxedis. Fundamental fundamental thing that would effect if not organized an orderly way it would affect the economic relationship gross europe and perhaps even on a club level and that means we of course put pat in germany for all the possible. Outcomes. We certainly want to avoid the practices. We certainly want to establish as Close Relationships as possible with the United Kingdom even after of rexs and we are prepared to listen to the British Government in parliament it was a pretty please believe me but what does that mean it wasnt only the british journalists who wanted to know is he expecting the heartbreaks it im not here to negotiate the European Union has negotiated. With one wise over the last two years we have been clear from the beginning we have been constructive from the beginning the German Government just being tight lipped at the moment when it comes to brag that at any rate at the World Economic forum in davos yesterday a new program was introduced to better the conditions for l g b t i people in companies could you explain to us what this project is about what the priorities there are seven Big Companies with the work on it for them trying to i would say push for companies to use the standards that our office defined for ensuring l g b i communities right at the workplace but also in the community but most particularly at the business so the idea is that these companies will develop and see this going to totally policies that they will have a Due Diligence policies and that they also will be able to respond to grievances because you know if you can be a Community Many times they are victims of bullying or a harassment or worse threats and we know that some of these Multinational Companies or most of them come from countries where the rights for people are already very advanced how do you approach companies in this program that are from countries where the human rights situation is far worse and more critical to think Different Things i mean this big multinational they have one challenge still because at headquarters and those countries there its work very well the problem there probably yes. But the local sometimes companies they have this restraints this complication so i think theres no one single recipe because it will depend on the country but i think you have to do the i would say you have to show government that this is that right thing to do but also the smart thing to do how they can gain or how companies can gain on that of course there are places where you know if you go further they will be what some people say i mean they will give the license to continue working so then you have to find other anti points for example we have a big program of business and human rights so you can start working on human rights as a whole including id to be community but you work on the whole kinds of human rights in terms of Labor Conditions safety for the workers etc so thats one a positive the other thing is that we dont. Insist that there was they have to do everything they can go step by step and also what we asked them to do particularly when they have a very strong relation with with with the suicide and the governments that they also can speak to parliament sort of to have the Legal Framework i mean the laws and the bills that would permit them to move on move forward or strength very much michelle bachelet. The african population is growing massively it is estimated that it will double by the year twenty fifty so that of course means lots of opportunities like our growing workforce but it also means a lot of challenges for example the lack of infrastructure or food and security now african organizations here at the World Economic forum are here not only to raise awareness about their problems but also to offer solutions of their own. For agnes theres not a moment to relax shes rushing from one meeting to another her mission is Food Security for africans by ensuring that farmers in africa have enough money to work in agriculture. We need to show inclusive it to groups if we dont issue that form of agreeing with everybody else we hope a whole bunch of people and that bunch is what small were talking about seventy to eighty percent of africas were christian moved to be left behind of of growth so thats why her organization agra supports these farmers it provides them access to modern technology and improved seeds that way they can grow their crops more efficiently and eventually run a more viable business to create value so that other people can be interested in them especially private sector so were trying to have discussions with companies and businesses untrue to demonstrate to them that to put in it is in the free and they abound but the African Development bank estimates at least one hundred billion dollars are required just for the continents infrastructure something still seems to be holding back investors. Please so you get a kind of its all over for you africa so africa is that is the best of all for there because of the narrative of africa the misogynous even in the media with some of the negative there was an liters and this is tony in the middle and agnes are among those africans in davos who are trying to change that narrative one conversation at a time. Earth is facing its sixth mass extinction about one hundred thousand species could soon be wiped out w. s manuela caspar claridge spoke to the head of the un d. P. Right here in davos and talked about the lion share project a Flagship Initiative that collaborates with businesses to protect wildlife and it wants to raise one hundred Million Dollars every year. I know what like life is under threat and the most in decline do we have to worry i think we have to worry a great deal we are losing nature and Nature Services species but also ecosystems every day on an unprecedented scale these are the foundations of life on the planet and thats why it is so important that we first of all understand how important a bee might be or a tree or a forest ecosystem fraud daily wellbeing and more important than to do something about it because it is we humans with our Consumption Patterns our economies our pollution that are destroying nature and we need nature to survive on this planet Everybody Knows that it seems but what can be done a lot first of all we all need to accept that we are part of helping to either solve the problem or make it worse and i think it begins with the way we consume the way the pollute what we do in terms of our choices for very daily activities whether we buy certain products do not buy certain products but its not only the consumer and its also the production and we can produce things differently and so it goes through the entire economy that today is driving the destruction of nature and thats why we are in the United Nations in the nongovernmental organizations and scientists in universities trying to have people understand how important their individual actions are because seven billion people acting together can actually change the world you created together with us all going his Agency Initiative the lion chance what its about see the launch as a fascinating idea and it was born out of the world of business out of the world of advertising and basically it looked at the fact that in advertising we use a lot of animals animal images aminals stories and a few colleagues from the Advertising Industry then started talking to business said look why dont we use this extraordinary advertising budget that communicates with literally billions of people every day and use it to leverage a small portion of the advertising budget that uses animal images and actually use it to invest in. Nature Nature Conservation protection of habitats in animals and out of this was born the lions Share Initiative attracting some of the biggest names in the Advertising Industry and their customers which are the businesses that Everybody Knows in terms of the supermarket shelves of products that they buy a services that they buy together we have now launched the line Show Initiative a small percentage of advertising will go to fund the u. N. Family and you n. D. P. As a partner and this will help to take these funds and back into conservation and protection of nature its an extraordinary example of how business first of all can become part of the solution secondly the Advertising Industry speaks to billions of people every day its an enormous opportunity to raise awareness and make us all part of the solution so hell be on the line share a groundbreaking partnership and i hope it will change the way we look at the possibility of using our everyday decisions to change the future thank you very much. And thats all for this special edition of v. W.
