Is a rapid pace of change and i think what people are saying and i hope it wont be an overly destructive way, we want government to slow this down a little. We want a little more sense of control. Slow down the pace of change. We live in an era of very rapid change, rapid technological change, rapid integration of global economy, high levels of integration. All of these are very positive in a lot of ways, positive in ways of generating growth, we obviously have a lot of effort but people feel dislocated and i think what theyre saying is we want a level of government control over this. We realize government cant stop the world and make us get off but they can control the pace of change to a greater sense and i think thats a commonality between whats going on here and was going on in europe. At what point just slowing the pace of change become protectionism . At what point does it basically move, its almost like a specter between being opened and being close, between immigration issues how do you , how does one if you will get the goldilocks position on the right . It seems to me its a king can like challenge your setting up here. Except the goldilocks position is politics. You read Edmund Burton and edmund burke says politics is just how we go about balancing the different demands. If you look at the trade, you go back to the vote of the tokyo around the world trade agreements. The house vote was 395 in favor and four against. Overwhelmingly, the American People and their representatives are in favor of liberalizing trade. By the time you get to nafta, the boat is 234 to 200 and the majority of bill clinton democrats vote against him. The people are saying were not quite so sure about this anymore. By the time you get to the Central American trade agreements and the Class Authority thats needed, republicans have to hold a vote for an hour. And its our big guy those around intimidating their republican members to get on board. I talked to one of them afterwards, mark foley from florida. In order to get the single vote they needed to get the fast track through the house and allow them to do the american security, we paid attention in politics.
