This area for about 9 to 11,000 years as soon as the ice age left and early people were hunting and then you had the various different stages and so then there was the red oaker people, advanced civilization who were the ancestors of the quote, unquote and in 1300 a new insurgence, new culture with caribbean influence and these were the people that were first to explore and come here and drove by here hudson river in 1609. He came up with his men on his little ship all the way passed albany, probably mohawk river and he gets down below here and then things start to catch up with him because apparently his first mate has been doing something unnice and unkind to the natives and they come back to symbolically show that they are unhappy and he reacts to that and starts shooting everybody. That start unpleasant pattern but overall, the dutch and the native people got along pretty well. The biggest turning point was actually down in manhattan in 1643 with governor keith was the governor and he really was a reckless leader and he was acting inappropriately, protection money and led to the keith war and that was really pretty got pretty ugly and major war in manhattan and it left bad feelings. Things were patched up and peter came in and he was good at fixing, making peace with the natives using their own techniques. Peacemaking which was a good idea. That was up near here in this area. The english took over in september 1664 and they took over manhattan and then the whole hudson river colony all the way up to albany and at first they brought more order but overall the natives were less happy with the english than they were with the dutch. It seemed like after that you saw where the dutch and they were teaming up against the english. In terms of population, the numbers started dwindling back in 1500s but had a resurgence and then in right before treaty of high park, a few years before that, there was to put a price on the head of every native american and so what happened a lot of the natives start today leave and go out west. Many had already gone west and, in fact, the people are here. Theyre going west and some of them merge. Some separate but they are going through what is all 48 lower states.
