And his address shortly after the midterm elections, widely anticipated address. People were excited. Arrangements were made. And Franklin Roosevelt heaped all kinds of praise on the university 1st liberalism and beside herself. She knew that they did not accept by students, but she helped replication would be accepted anyway and it was not. She read the presence of the transcript the New York Times she was living in harlem at the time. She just could not sit still. She began a three page singlespaced letter which she sent to the president calling him to task for his praise of the university and the universitys policy which would be the admission of black students. And she sent this to the president. Amazing secretaries. Unless in the copy of this to eleanor. They responded about a month later. The back promptly our her own signature and in that letter she said im paraphrasing because i dont have it right in front of me. I understand your concern. A way to know the great changes coming. Very happy to get these letters. Need to slow down for patient. This was symbolic in the early stages. The inpatient youth. Unwilling to compromise. First lady of the nation feeling very much that her role was to be supported. Her husband is measured approach. Lets not mention the past. This is in 1938. By the time eleanor is in her final year this tells you a little bit. Im foreshadowing. A little bit about your map. Partners from being someone who would never vote for Franklin Roosevelt was suspicious of the twoparty system to become a registered voting democrat and eleanor moves from taking the position of one who says you dont push too fast and need to work within the system and you must obey laws that require segregated seems and accommodations.
