We need to make a lot of the publichealth measures involved with big health compromises. One of the more effective ways of containing malaria in africa is the use of gdp to kill and prevent the reproduction of mosquitoes. And when it was used for a number of decades, after they ceased using it from a research and some areas. Especially in south africa, it has put this back and use and we have seen really good results in terms of containing malaria and reducing the number of cases. But as we know there is a significant environmental fallout from using ddt and theres reasons why ddt is not a great solution. Unfortunately it is one of the few effective things that we have to contain malaria. And so i think one of the beauties of vaccination is in many cases it does not involve the kind of massive compromise that Something Like ddt does. That does not mean that its not absolutely perfect or there is no compromise in there are risks to the vaccinations and children do have side effects. But the good that is done in comparison to the harm is tremendous. [inaudible question] over to the back . Thank you so much. But the big problem in the United States is that we produce in this country less exports. Less than twice the number that the population uses on a daily basis, there are about 4000 calories available in food supply everyday people eat about 2000. And so its very competitive and we have to find lots of ways to sell food and in doing that as the number of calories increases, it becomes more competitive and we have to find more and more ways to push food on people. And it did that very effectively hence obesity. How to do that . It started in the late 1970s and early 1980s and the first was in our cultural policy change so that we could pay farmers to grow as much fruit as a could, and that is why there are more calories in the food supply. The second has to do with wall street in the early 1980s changed and there was a shareholder Value Movement that insisted that instead of the things that we never hear about anymore, the stocks that gave the long slow returns, shareholders want returns on investment and we want them right now. And so the Food Companies were trying to find this in a competitive environment and now they had additional pressure and they had to produce evidence of growth wall street every 90 days and this put them under enormous pressure and they began to look for ways that they could sell food and they got this in the early 1980s after president reagan was elected and it was a regulatory agenda that included the deregulating of marketing to children occurred. So it was then possible for Food Companies to market to the rest of the children in a way that had never been done on it. That combination of things plus the regulations of the food and Drug Administration and resources from the food and drug treatment is ration, it gave companies the opportunity to market in ways that they never had before. And they did that by larger portions of food and larger portions have more calories. If theres one point i would love to get across, that is there. It happened in the 1980s and they put food everywhere. If you live in new york, if you go to a drugstore, its like a Grocery Store now. And theres food at bed bath and beyond, theres food at staples, is food everywhere and it used to be that libraries would not allow any kind of food anywhere near the library. Now every library has a say in it. So we have different ways of selling food and we are human and humans eat when food is in front of us and the more times do we see food or day,
