Gore will discuss criminal Justice Reform and recall his 19 years in prison. This weekend, aol cofounder steve case will tell us how emerging technologies are reshaping the internet. In some way every company as a tech company. Even the internet is shifting from being an interesting phenomenon, there really internet enabled and in not too distant future they will take for granted. So be talks about electricity enabled, theyll take it for granted. The internet is on a similar path. I think well know when we get there, when we dont have a half hyphenated internet. Right now we call it email, someday well call it male. I know we call it ecommerce, we call ecommerce, when they will call it commerce. Will not there yet it will take ten or 20 years to get there but i think were on that path when the third wave is just the next reiteration for the next step, the next wave of taking the idea of the internet and shifting it from being a Quirky Technology thing to be in a fundamental part of everyday life. Doctor serves as the Matthew C Horner distinguish chair at the Marine Corps University. So this is where full disclosure. That chair supported by the Marine Corps University foundation which i am a trustee which is a fabulous organization if you want to go and check it out and make a donation that would be great. When they give the talk youll understand why they do such a great work and can bring this incredibly accomplish scholars to work at Marine Corps University and work firsthand with the marines, the soldiers and people from other departments that come to the Marine Corps University. And help them understand the challenges that america faces in the world today. Its extraordinary university, Extraordinary Program and we are extremely proud that you are part of that. He is also professor with u. S. Special operations, joint special Operation University and serves as the legal instructor for special operations combating terrorism, of course and more importantly he has authored over 140 monographs, books, chapters, writing on this a broad swath of issues that deal with this issue of extremism and global terrorism. I think the most important credential is that i would defy, to go into the office of the dni or one of the intelligent agencies or anybody in the Intelligent Community for any combatant command around the world, or any of the services and find somebody that has not sat in a briefing with him. He is literally the man who has briefed the people who are fighting this war on the realities and his observations and analysis. His views are extremely listen to an influential and important. So when he writes a book about how to deal with this long war which seems like it is just getting longer all of the time, thickets were people that care about this issue and care about the country and its security and the challenges of peace to prosperity the world today that we should take time out and listen to what he has to say. Were excited to host here to talk about his book. So he is going to talk for a bit and then take questions. He will recognize the questions. So if you have a question, if youll please raise your hand and we have microphones, so wait for the microphone so the folks listening online can hear the question. State your name and affiliation ask your question, and then we will run that to the end of the hour. Thank you for being here today and please join me in welcoming set. Thank you so much a gym, that is an introduction that my father wouldve been proud of and my mother wouldve believed. [laughter] it is wonderful to be here, thank you and specifically i must reiterate what was inferred earlier, i would not be here today, i would not have my credible position at Marine Corps University or been able to write this book without the support of on this, so they funded my position at mcu and also made the writing of this book possible, but logistically my team here is also present including my editor. So tom, everybody else thank you for actually getting me past the finish line. No more comments needed. Okay. That us talk about why i wrote this book. My day job is working with the marenco with our special operators and with the fbi to help them understand the ideology of jihadist groups. Whether it is al qaeda, isis or others to get inside the mind of bad guys. I think one of the reasons im in an unusual position to be up to do that is not because i grew up in the middle easter i come from an arab culture, its because of the experience of my family under communism. My parents lived in hungry during the communist dictatorship, my father was actually responsible for creating a secret christian, catholic, underground organization at the university to push back on the communist takeover of his beloved hungry. Unfortunately unfortunately his organization was feeding intelligence to the west into mi six of the reports were landing on the desk of one kim filby. After a few months of undermining the soviets and helping stop the spread of communism my father and his friends were betrayed from london. As a result, at the at the age of 20 my father got a life sentence in a communist prison starting with two years in solitary. Then two years down a coal mine after that. This is the story with which i open my book. I did not want to do it but my wife said american loves a good story so i opened opened it with the story of my father. My father being liberated from a communist political prison by the revolutionaries of 1956, skipping across the minefields into austria and finally making their way out to the west. My father did not know he had been betrayed so when they asked him in the refugee camp where you want to go he said the united kingdom. That is how they ended up in the u. K. And how i was born a british citizen and eventually moved to hungry, but now but now im a very proud american citizen. The reason that i did in fact decide to include this story was a very simple one, i grew up with the mothers milk of freedom and democracy, just instilled in me from day one. Because my father escaped from a communist dictatorship, from a prison in a communist dictatorship, i, i understood, before i could walk that the fragility of liberty, the importance of liberty and how fragile it is. And how Ronald Reagan was absolutely correct that the loss of liberty is always just one generation away. So what i saw the events in realtime, 15 years ago on that beautiful sunny Tuesday Morning it was like a day like today, beautiful, blue cute clear skies. When i saw the two planes fly into the twin towers of the World Trade Center i understood that the totalitarians are back. They may not be communists but they are totalitarians. If you read the works that inform groups like isis or al qaeda, it is clear that america is once again facing a global totalitarian ideology. Ideology. In the 20th century we vanquished to, we think wish the soviet union and marxism. Today, we are facing a similar ideology that sees itself in a global them or us competition. It is no accident that key jihad he office, the one detail and the book, if you really want to understand the enemy you must read the key strategists of jihad. One of the most influential, the story really begins with him is an egyptian called side could sure, q you to be, he is the most important she had a thinker of the Muslim Brotherhood. His seminal work called milestones is a very strange mixture of fascism, of thought communism all wrapped up in the religion of islam. It is these people you must read and understand if you wish to understand that the threat to america and why it truly is an xo sense show threat. These people will not be negotiated with. Anybody who thinks he can sit down with either the taliban or al qaeda, or isis, and negotiate about your future, they are living in an alice in wonderland fantasy. The only thing you can negotiate with the jew hottie with her about is how you will be killed, will you be decapitate, burnt alive or crucified . Or will you be enslaved as a subhuman, as a person who is not recognized as a human being because you are not a muslim . That is the reality, it is it is completely analogous with attempting to negotiate with hitler, it does not work. You can negotiate with the fascists about which of them they are going to put you in, that is about the extent of the negotiation. We are again in this world. The rest of the book is beyond this recognition that the new totalitarian has arrived it is my game plan on how to defeat them, it starts with the lessons of sun tzu. He said that if you wish to win a war you must know yourself and you must know your enemy. We do not know our enemy. We have Political Correctness out of control. The last 15 years, unfortunately it started under the Bush Administration but now it has read cataclysmic proportions. When the white house sent to nonclassified memo banned the discussion of religion and counterterrorism training for the fbi or for our military, even saying the word jihad was prohibited, we entered a new age in which it would become impossible to effectively win this war. As a student of mine at National Defense university stated in his dissertation and he will gone named, when the enemy gets the control, what you are allowed to say about them you have already lost the war. That is where we are today. When a man in traditional arabic dress runs at a peace officers cruiser in philadelphia, pumps the whole meg of his clock set my automatic at a policeman and afterward says this is for the glory of god, for all of, and the mayor of philadelphia says its just a crime, it has nothing to do with religion, then we are living in a man type absurdity. The fact is you can only defeat an enemy if you understand them on their own terms. When they say they are jihadists fighting for all you do not get to wipe that out of your threat assessment. If you do that, you are censoring the intelligence cycle. It would be as if somebody had said as we are preparing to storm in normandy beaches and somebody in america said during world war ii look guys, i know you prepped your parachute, your rifle is ready but whatever you do, when you land, dont mention the word nazis because he could offend a german. That is the absurdity of the Current Situation were living in. It has to stop. So i use as my template the template that was incredibly successful during the cold war. We won a war against a totalitarian ideology but with two seminal documents, to secret documents of have since been declassified and i use these as the starting point for my strategy against isis and other jihadists. The first one is the telegram. George kennan secret telegram, the 1414 page that he sent from moscow to washington in 1946. Explain who is the soviet union and what does stalin believe, and why is he believing in ways that are antithetical to the postwar piece of your . That document was the enemy threat. Doctrine analysis. It was in a grit description of what they called the personality of the soviet union. It made it very clear that this nation and its allies are motivated by an ideology that will not stop unless we are destroyed and enslaved. That is why the soviet union is an existential threat to america and her western allies. How did we go beyond the analysis of who the enemy is . Well, the incredible poor meat so was passed by the administration to write the plant on how to defeat the soviets. In the document National Security council 68, he wrote a 60 page plan on how to defeat the soviet union from the outside and how to defeat it from the inside by delegitimizing its ideology of the workers paradise. That document was unlike any government document i have ever seen. Let me just read to you if i may, one short segment from the very beginning in the book defeating jihad i actually reproduce both of those now declassified documents in their entirety at the back of the book so you can read them. Let me just give you an opening section of nf 68 and ask yourself a question, when i read these words to you from topsecret government strategy, ask yourself how many times you hear language like this today. And on classified government documents and president ial statements from the rose garden, tell tell me if we talk like this anymore . The fundamental purpose of the United States is laid down in the preamble to the constitution quote, to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and to our press parity. In essence, the fundamental purpose is to assure the integrity and vitality of our free society. It is founded upon the dignity and the worst of the individual. Do we have government document that talk about the dignity and the worth of the individuals . The blessings of liberty . We understood back then what the Founding Fathers built this nation upon, and we need to reinvigorate and remind ourselves that today it is organizations like isis or al qaeda that deny these fundamental truths and are therefore an essential threat to the United States. So, what is to be done . I work for the dod for five years, six years, oh my gosh, too long and a result result i am a little bit infected by isis but i am a recovering powerpoint user so let me just share two slides with you. What is the message of my book . Of course i would like you to purchase it but it is a very simple message, al qaeda and isis is just another form of totalitarianism. It has to be recognized as such. Its not the function of poverty, or lack of education, or what the administration likes to call local grievances, who have the 19 hijackers on september 11 were born in Palestinian Refugee camps . What was the lack of political and franchise meant that g heidi john suffered going to an elite school in the u. K. Being a very welltodo it manager and the golf . Im not sure i understand what the local grievances are for these individuals that behead fellow human beings on camera. Secondly, america is and has defeated totalitarians before and we can do it again. Let me be explicit on this. It is no accident that it took americas involvement and leadership in both world war ii and the cold war to defeat the nazis and the communists. That is not an accident. It is a function of the fact that america, we are the only nation founded on the principles of liberty, freedom and the individual dignity of the human being based upon their being made in the image of their creator. This is not an accident. And it will take americas involvement again to defeat this new totalitarian enemy. But only if we can remove political correct this from a threat assessment and understand the stakes of this war. They are total and global. It is easy to poohpooh isis and its ideas of caliphate and democracy. Really, there are 6,000,000 People Living on the territory of the caliphate today. There 80000 armed jihad ease serving. That its not a theory, its not a crazy idea of a man in a cave somewhere, its a reality. They have already issued manuals, official manuals of the Islamic State on what you can and cannot do with your slaves. Explicitly your sex slaves. Including prepubescent women that you now own because they are using these are christians. How is it, im going to get political for a second if i may because i do work for the Us Government anymore. Why is it that we are talking about Harriet Tubman on american dollar bills or transit gender access to toilets when women are being sold into sex slavery now . The trans gender toilets, this is a sex slave market today, obsessing about slavery in america over a century ago but when slavery is happening today there needs to be an understanding of what is going on in the world. So what is to be done . To quote a certain individual who may be familiar to you number one, we have to be honest about who the enemy is and what they want, no more censorship. Lets get politics out of National Security, the idea that you are not allowed to talk about the enemy using the words the enemy uses to talk about themselves, that must end. Also, we have to be honest that it is not a function of policy or lack of political franchise meant but it is pure evil. It is the incarnate evil that we see with isis that represents the greatest threat to america. There are other problems, i will admit, yes. Russia is a. Russia is a spoiler, north korea, but not climate change. Okay. Sex slavery today, crucifixions and beheadings based upon what religion you profess, that is the primary problem. Get censorship out of the threat assessment, lower professionals to do what they have been trained to do, and then and then the second part operationally, america should not be the face of the war against the global jihad a movement for many reasons. It should be our sunni allies, countries i have worked very closely with in the past especially the jordanians the adaptions and others, they are the primary victims of isis. Let me be clear here, the majority of people kill killed by the global jihad he movement are fellow muslims, they kill yazidis and christians, and yes i understand that. But it is the man in the cage, the jordanian Fighter Pilot burnt alive who best exemplifies the primary enemy of these individuals. As a result, we, we must support those nations that are on the front line like egypt, like jordan, to be the face of this war. But has anyone who served in the region knows or has traveled there, that will never happen, it will never happen by itself. You will not see an arab sunni coalition, real one, not the one that has been created today by the administration, 61 nations, really ive been on there were two muslim nations in the room. Two, not 61. Lets talk about the reality. A real Arab Coalition to go fight on the ground to recapture places like mozilla will never happen unless those governments and those people trusted that we are behind them all the way. That we have there six as what they say in the military. I assure you those governments and those nations do not trust america today. You know what, if i were sunni, neither what i after the last 15 years and especially after last seven and a half. We need to have the next commanderinchief to rebuild those bridges because most reasonable sunnis think that america is now on the side of the shiite. With 150,000,000,000 nuclear deal with iran they have drawn the conclusion that we do not care about him on. We do not care about cairo, we are on not on their side. That has to be addressed. This war will not be won without us being part of the solution and with our sunni allies on the front line. Lastly, very explicitly from the cold war, we have to have a strategic level counter push in the propaganda and Information Warfare domain. We are literally not present on the battlefield of ideas, i am not dental grading the work of our psychological operations unit, i know them intimately, but they are limited, they are not permitted to do anything about the tactical level, just as in the cold war we must have a white house driven counter Propaganda Campaign that shines the light of truth against our enemy and their totalitarian ideas and ultimately d legitimizes their ideology of global jihad. Today this is our primary problem. From the the streets of paris to brussels, g high is a lifestyle, it is far too popular. When you have the director of the fbi testify openly that isis is more than 20,000 social media platforms and isis is posting more than 50,000 social media social media postings every day, it is time that we started to push back. It is only then when jihad becomes on sexy, unpopular, when we support a version of islam that is pretrade by our jordanian egyptian colleagues, that we will eventually win this war and we will defeat the new totalitarians. So, that is my plan in a nutshell, if you have questions or you want to know more about the book it is available outside at the four year. But my website it has lots of information about the book and Everything Else that we do, the last if you really want to know how bad the threat of isis is, the company my wife and i run, has some reports on the domestic threats of isis in case youre still wondering about how serious that thread is. That is also available online. I think that is half an hour roughly, so, so we have time for any questions from the floor if there be an email then, the floors all yours. Hello. I have a question you mentioned that the and a key component of your strategy as many others have discussed is trying to develop alternative understandings of islam to counter any group like Al Qaeda Isis or the television. That is a 64000dollar question or looking for the unicorn, what what developments do you see, groups who would support,. Great question. Whats worked, when have we seen arab or muslim nation function in ways that are commensurate with the standards of liberty, democracy and Representative Government or at least the lives of the individual . To be brutally honest in the 20 century icy to functioning examples, the hashemite kingdom of jordan. These these are the only one that function in ways that are stable in church the values that we cherish on the whole. Why is that so . What is special about these two constructs are these two policies . Very obviously it dissolve the caliphate in 1924 and explicitly said everybody in the new republic of turkey can be a muslim, thats fine but you know what, i am going to divest, im divest, im going to disconnect islam and politics. He said like the Founding Fathers in america you can be a muslim but that is a private issue, that cannot informed the crowd, he cannot inform governments function in government policy. So very aggressive separation of mosque and state was one model. Now they dont like this, because the state department doesnt like an idea where the state defines what religion can and cannot be on the military the turkish army is going to be the protector of the republican identity, the idea that guys in uniform are going to be the guarantor the secularity does not go well down with our friends in the state department but another though less it worked it works. Then we have the jordanian, and the jordanians, whys it so easy to work with them . Why is their military so good . Why are they such strong allies in the fight against isis . I think it has a lot to do with the word hashemite. When you have a royal family that is meant to be descended from the same clan as mohammed it provides you certain credentials. When the king says you should do this and you should not do that, that that, that has a certain weight that somebody else does not have. Of course their military or their military and royal elite are trained well. Here, i had the royal family members as my students. So the fact that they are socialized with the western values as individuals, then they have a credential that really cannot be gained easily by the extremists, those are two options. One of those cannot be replicated, you cannot hashemite ties the middle east unless you give it all to jordan. Was last option . You have to have secularization. You have to have a legacy that is transposed into other nations. Thats exactly what president cc is trying to do. I have spoken to him for hours and when a man who is a devoutly muslim as he is you know he has a prayer mark on his four head, he pray so hard he has a callous on his four head. If you read the dissertation it is clear that this is a deeply devout muslim who is trying to wrestle with the question of islam and democracy. But when he tells me look, i did what i did with the muslim brothers and because i am an egyptian before i am a muslim, then you understand what this man is doing. He said absolutely islam, great but im not going to see my nation held hostage to an interpretation of islam that is straight from the seventh century. So i think people like cc who are trying to reinvigorate the model but of course they are blackballed by this administration. Because he wore a uniform. I remember the president , maybe it was eisenhower who was a soldier before he was a president , i dont know, im a newly im a newly minted american. I need to bone up on these things. So before you got to four off the jordan thing i wanted to talk about that a bit more we all know jordan is about 60 refugee. And 40 who live there are jordanian, about half half love america and about half hate america. So could you unpack a little bit more about the way forward in terms of interfacing with jordan and their role that they are going to play in bringing stability back to the region and in dealing with the global islamic insurgents. Let me not give you my opinion, let me give you the horses mouth. My wife and i visited jordan and we were in the biggest refugee camp on Christmas Day last year. Jordan has absorbed an incredible amount of refugees from syria that is almost cracking the capacity of the nation to maintain its economy. Let me quote you the senior, no names, the Senior Police official who is responsible for that camp, that have a Huge Population of refugees, we asked them so how do you see this developing . How is the integration of the refugees into the jordan working in how long can you do this . And he said that, you have to be clear about this, we as jordanians eventually need these people to go back to the country they came from. The answer for refugees is not to be forced to go live somewhere else, its for the conditions that force their exodus to be solved to allow them to go back. It makes no sense, a we cannot physically absorb these people as a nation and secondly, what sense does it make to transport them even further away from their homeland whether its into europe or america, that is not what these people deserve. As the son of refugees, i fully understand this. My parents man become british citizens but guess what when the war felt what to my parents too . They went back to hungry, they had been forced to live in exile because of the dictatorship that it taken over the country. As soon as the warfel they were hungarians who wanted to go back to the land of their birth. Which they had been forced out of. So the trouble is jordan is just one relatively small actor in this theater. It has done an amazing job in absorbing as many people as it has. But i tend to agree with the Jordanian Police officer, the longterm reality, the longterm goal of any nation concern for these individuals is not that they try and grow roots and transplanted territories, or that they are pushed even further away from their homeland, but eventually they will have to go back to their own nation and that will only happen with american leadership. Thank you jim. Thank you very much. Is it feasible to separate mosque and state in the sense that in the muslim religion its a confusion of things is the same thing. Youve is very clear in catholic doctrine that the two are completely different so is it feasible, are rethinking, the thing did not work in a sense, it stopped working, maybe because its not workable. You raise a superb question, do not not want to go down a theological rabbit hole but the fact is if you worried the crown as i have, there is no passage in islamic scripture equivalent it, some people think that the Founding Fathers separated church and state, wrong, jesus did. When the jewish clerk says should you pay taxes mr. Rabbi what did jesus say, show me a coin. Whose faces on the coin, o coin, oh Caesars Court bases on the coin. Render unto caesar that which is caesars, separation of church and state is not a catholic thing, its jesus. He is saying my kingdom is up here, this is the kingdom and even st. Paul says obey your masters. So we do not have that moments of the render unto caesar in islamic scripture. Again, again, for those that have a fabulous interpretation of islam, asked them one simple question. Who is mohammed . Just tell tell me who is mohammed and what role did he fill in the caliphate . Well number one, he is said to be the last prophet of god. So hes a religious figure. Number two, what is he . He . He is the head of state. He is the head of state. So i like your discussion, confusion, its completely insane. Thirdly his a great military leader wiping out a whole tribe, jewish jewish tribes, arab trade, just read the stories. So in the gene code of islam there is a unitarian nation, look at what the gang side of jihadists, youve all seen the videos with the gang side is not pointing that have in its unity. Oneness. Oneness of of the faith, oneness of god, oneness of the perfect man. Mohamed is the perfect man. So we have a challenge, we have a theological stumbling block but i think but i think until the Muslim Brotherhood arrives, until individuals that there is a way, its not to make diplomats happy but the attitude model where the person who has political credentials, you have elected me president , he decides he decides what the religion is. We dont like that. We dont like the idea that a president is going to say what you can or cannot do as a muslim. But that is what he did. He said i do not care what the crown says, page nine, chapter nine verse 29. What it is say . This is gilby and fidel. Chapter nine verses four, verse 29, verse 29, these are the words of god. These are exhortations to enslave the infidel. It says we do not do that anymore, i want to be a member of nato, its not happening. So happening. So that is how turkey becomes turkey eventually. So there is a way, it is fragile, fragile, it is dependent upon whether they can maintain its credentials or its authority to impose its interpretation of the religion. Of course we dont like it. Again, i think it is arrogant that we say our culture must defy. Must divide what they will do to join us in our global community. That is the ultimate arrogance. So i think lets leave it up to people like cc who are elected as to how they dealt this question. Service we will put two or 1. 3 billion muslims, if you have to address why see, what message you have for them . In case you get such a chance because to make peace im really from pakistan, none of the is not appreciative of their work so how can we come up those who can really separate with the church and the state. So asking me to address the oic is like asking my father to address the common term. Were not going going to get that invitation and its probably pointless because id be broadcasted on fm and they be on a. M. It makes no way for me to be there. If you wish to make this fantasy real i would say one thing, just ask very simply where does the dignity of the individual come from, i would like the oic to tell me. What are the sources of truth for humankind, are they purely revelation, can they talk to me about the role of natural, what is their attitude to natural law, what do they think about the theologians . Were getting into very special territory here. I would like to get the oic on the record about where this truth come from, is it just from the cron or zippy on the crowd. Because then i think youll see the wolf take off its sheeps clothing. Lastly, i would ask them about the role of religion and politics, all of these three questions, revelation, natural law and politics. I would ask you questions i would not give them recommendations because i think theyre on the wrong trajectory. Is their arrogance out of ink its quite that is a great question. It is easier to be arrogant if youre ignorant. But i do not think the people running the oic are stupid. Thats a big mistake mistake sa and al qaeda are crazy people. Not true. One of the biggest mistakes we make in the Intelligence Community and National Security is to say that they are just a bunch of crazies. Wrong. They have a plan. We the people, in my book, read, read mail duties, if you read the key strategist and jihad, you understand these people are capricious or random, they have a strategy that has been percolating for 70 years. The. The thing i wish to stress on the point of isis, do you realize the enormity of what happened on june 29, 2014 . This is what shocks me inside the u. S. National security establishment. When a man has named himself after the first righteous king of, when he walks up the pulpit to the preachings, summarizing location of the grand mosque them also and he declares that the reestablishment of the caliphate and himself, this is the ultimate game changer. This is not just packaging, this changes everything. For 90 years, for 90 years the extremist, the jihadists, have been trying to on do what they did and to reestablish the caliphate in 1924, scores of organizations and then moving on to al qaeda, his book and islamic jihad, you name it, all of these in one mission, for 90 years every single one of them failed, all of them failed what happens a year and half ago and most of all, isis doesnt talk about it, isis does it it is not possible to overemphasize where 19 years of jihadist and has failed. Because isis is at the super bowl and theyre going to walk away with the win. Isis has a blasted al qaeda out of the water. It has outdone the Muslim Brotherhood, its irrelevant today by comparison. Another thing, if i may just to bring it all back home, this is from a report my wife and i did with isis in america, this is not something happening a thousand miles away, in the last 18 months since the declaration of the caliphate we have killed or arrested 98 people in america linked isis. Ninetyeight. That is not all jihadist comments just isis. All over the country from texas to california to new jersey is not a question of when the threat comes and its a question of where the threat is is already answered, san bernadino, they swore allegiance as they executed the secondlargest attack on u. S. Soil from september 11. The scary thing is 30 of the people that we have arrested have no intention of going anywhere, half of them want to go to the middle east for 30 have decided the best way to service to kill infidels in on u. S. Soil. These are just the unclassified facts of the matter of what the isis threat of america is today. Could you update folks on this date of al qaeda today. We now just talk about isis. Thank you. Do you remember, so isis got to be really big, why, because we are obsessed with al qaeda. When abu bock when abu bock it gets kicked out of al qaeda what happens you says to take all the fighters into syria so were doing it again, were obsessing on isis that al qaeda has not disappeared, al qaeda qaeda is more active than ever especially in africa, right now there is real pressure on al qaeda to do what . Prove relevance, because who is following the show, now isis is the cocacola of soft drinks. You say soft drinks resale is the big leader, its isis but al qaeda has to get back in the game. Either that or they have to swear by the new caliphate and i dont think for reasons of ego he can quite swallow subordinating himself to his former subordinate. So what is al qaeda do in the meantime he may go even bigger. If you want to prove your relevance, 3000 people people in hundred two minutes may not be enough. We have seen al qaeda look at weapons of mass destruction experimenting with nerve agents and poisonous gases, so al qaeda has not disappeared, this is why i prefer violence extremism is absurd. This this label, this asinine label of the administration uses, no, its not any kind of a violent extremism, its jihadist in. A much better label of the threat is the global jihad movement. We must appreciate the global jihad a movement has hundreds of members. Organizations, so whether you are a member of a book on iran, al qaeda, and others, even the has block, thats a version of jihadist them. Its just a competing branch of jihadist them. Its the one that serves the shia interpretation. These are all things that we should remember, it is not the connections between individuals that matter, intelligence is always looking before, its irrelevant. So if that individual shares the end of ideology of jihadist whether its a boston bombers, that means there members of the same movement and that i think is the best label for global jihadist them. Have you reflected on any role in sufi is inches its its often brought up as the antidote, if you say that you have not read a history book. So the mystic version of this islam seems very intuitively attractive. Some of the nastiest, most, most violent muslim sect in the history of the religion were linked to that. So im not looking for the one antidote, im im looking for attitudes to truth. Attitudes to revelation and reasons of truth. With the most important question, dignity. What is that definition of where dignity and human value comes from. Certain aspects of it could be injected into the mold. But youre not likely to convert it into a version of itself. I understand the attraction, im not sure by itself is a game changer. But thank you. Im joe, with congressman jims office. Its not difficult for me to understand having read the koran in the history of Islamic Movement from the outset why we are seeing what were seeing in the islamic world today. I do find it difficult to understand the response of the Current Administration and previous demonstrations to the current threat. How can we best but that the proper context . What i got, nine minutes. So i did the obama commiseration gets where it is today . Ive two answers for that. One has to do with worldview and one has to do with intelligence analysis. The worldview, when you have a political that looks at itself as a very sophisticated, very modern, postmodern if you will then what is your attitude to religion . Its probably the foyer interpretation that religion is just by guiding spirits or whatever. Even if you go to temple or mosque it is a special, if you go to capitol hill and you go i meet people afterwards with coffee, if your attitude to religion is a post modern secular to religion, you will not understand this war. I dont care what religion you hold. Im realizing the first two years if you do not have real faith, dont care of your buddhists, if you do not have faith, real faith youll never understand edgy hottie. This is a person that if you watch the unedited versions of the video like i do its not just craziness, when a man take seven minutes to sever another human beings head theyre not, thats commitment to a cause. It doesnt come from a paycheck. So so number one it is secular attitude, you simply cannot absorb. Secondly there is a moment in history that we need to address. Theres an individual an individual who was an academic specializing in radical islam who is hired by the National Terrace on center. This was lifted by the First Administration and he give them a full analysis. Is called the flawed sides behind counterterrorist society. As the flawed strategy, the flawed Science Behind americas counterterrorism society. This individual sold the administration the white house on this analysis. Then the world of radical islam there are two groups that believe in the caliphate, the brotherhood that will use non kinetic means and then people like al qaeda that will actually kill you employ your. This man commits the white house the only way to save america from the next 911 is to negotiate with the brotherhood and empower them because only the brotherhood can save us from al qaeda. Probably that analysis worked, they both won caliphate. They both want to destroy the west. And we are helping people like because we think they are going to kill us what, later . But this is really worldview and secondly given power to a group that is as extreme as the jihadist they just have a different methodology. But we could talk for hours about why the administration is where it is. We have time for one more question. Way for the microphone. Im john, with an american conservative. Ive also written about america strategy in fact if you search internet my article is in their and number wanted to. And also i listed all of the violations and recommendations of how to win, one of which is the last resort not the first and all the things i recommend it, but my question is about saudi arabia, saudi arabia and turkey were helping isis at the beginning and money comes from saudi arabia and the other is all the six green extremism and we continually say where their bodies, their bombing and killing we started in yemen killing thousands of innocent people. We provide Aerial Refueling to saudis to show that we like them, they have that mentality the dictatorship and the ultimate jihad he all comes from saudi arabia, yet there are countries that you mentioned. So do you have a question. Can you address those issues. Im not in a position to address issues on form policy with saudi arabia but in the book i deal explicitly with the most important year in the birth of modern jihad and that his 1979. If you want to understand are very confused relationship with saudi arabia and why saudi arabia is a fundamentally schizophrenic nation you have to understand the seeds of mecca. The book is available outside, but the seeds of mecca by g hottie extremists against their fellow muslims led to a bargain being brought between certain clerics, as long story but its in the book. Thank you for the question [applause]. [inaudible conversation] [inaudible conversation] i was very frustrated and angry, and a group of us had work for the National Womens political caucus and on equal rights amendment, we share the frustration, why are there more women in office. We we would hear all the time about women who would go to the party establishment, they would say im ready to move up to congress, will you help me, i have a district, track record in support. The guys would lean back and say oh you cant win, were not going to give you anybody. Of course because when he could give them any money the women were stuck. They are caught in this vicious circle, they couldnt raise any money because nobody believed they could win. So this group of friends of mine, very simply said, if we told the people that we knew about women running we could raise a lot of money for them. Lets start a network and figure out how to do that. So we be gay in my basement with 25 people sending out letters, it will was our 30th anniversary celebration. It was that the point where you decided to name it emilys list, thats a nice little story i want to admit something to you, i thought emily was probably the name of your mom or something. Right, well you named it after yourself and i said no, im ellen, this is emily. We did that because we wanted to raise money and we thought that if we gave women credibility by raising early money than they would go on and raise the additional money they needed to win. So we were little political adventure capitalist. Were going to go out there in todays terms where the kick starter for women. Emily stands for early money is like yeast. We make the the dough rise, we have been doing that ever since. You can watch this and other
