[applause] send a very passionate man were working together over the last 4,000 years and has been outstanding and from the foundation you cannot do any of those things without money. Matt. Is so nice of him to come here he has no choice. He has to do whatever i say for the entire year. [laughter] to do the hosting of the show and also to be a costar in the next movie. [laughter] thank you so much to be here today you are funny and witty and a doctor. Congratulations again. [applause] and also the host of cnn. [applause] and to feel passionate about everything. We did this show together in new york i just said oh my god he is so fantastic with Afterschool Program some this is terrific with somebody on television suggest to read the teleprompter thank you for being here and i look forward to our discussion and then of course, extra television is here. And my daughters have a crush on him also the thank you for being here with extra not because they are shooting interviews but also thank you for your great french chef. I only play a machine in the movies but here we have a true machine the defensive player of the year not just doing this to you do me a favor but is also very passionate some of thank you very much to be here today. And as dean of the usc school of Public Policy and is always a great partner within university system. And all to the afterschool leaders that here from around the nation providing Afterschool Programs. So this is extraordinary there are a lot of new leaders here today that none of this would be possible for the afterschool allstar would not exist if not for danny hernandez. [applause] we want you to know that in the early 90s more than 25 years ago chairman of the president s Council Invited me to come down and shouted to and which show to me the homework assistance programs bodybuilding and then invited me to come to the summer games for he came up with this idea throughout the summers with thousands and thousands of kids so they can for exposing me to Afterschool Programs and inspiring me to do something for my Community Banks for being here today. Youre all doing a fantastic job so before i sit down i want you to know how much i appreciate the work youre doing providing great Afterschool Programs for those kids 10. 2 million kids were talking about three hours every day five days a week you were providing Educational Programs tutoring arts programs a list goes on and on and on top of that to keep the kids off the streets it is a danger zone for kids juvenile crime, gangs and this is why everybody that is smart knows everyone spent in an Afterschool Program so with this initiative in california proposition 39 with that fiscal responsibility this is extraordinary so they always need more help and those to get into Afterschool Programs. But those come from homes that both parents are working. So those kids need help they were so active in fundraising so to ask yourself the question why does the president of United States cut Afterschool Programs . 1. 2 billion dollars . President trump promised if he wants to make America Great again that is not how you make America Great taking money away from the children to rob them blind . [cheers and applause] why would you do that her balance the budget on the backs of those kids . They are the most will burble citizens. And then to spend money on those kids wisely and this is why it is so great to have all of you to see crusaders. And a bunch of terminators you will not take this lying down. To talk to the democrats and republicans is a peoples issue. To make sure the money goes back into the budget we can do it. Thank you very much. [applause] way to go. Shots fired by the terminator not just day talking head in a believable. And host of the nsc truth messy truth. [applause] that was kind of hot and spicy. Were trying to keep up it is an honor to be here nobody has a bigger platform on earth than you do you as been a governor moving half a billion dollars to these causes but yet you were still fighting so give him a round of applause. [applause] so ill ask you a couple of tough questions or reduce boiling these kids . Spoiling. Be honest. You yourself, for a modest background nobody gave you a big Afterschool Program you almost invented bodybuilding. Now i need day program . Shouldnt they do it like you did it . I know what your question is but but i was spoiled because both of them are working but when i grow up it was on common to both parents were working. But most of the mother stayed home. So between morning your night gardening, of growing vegetables and cooking up the store. And to make sure they did their homework and it was really tough. But she helped us with the homework all the time with the tutoring but my father was a Police Officer and work with a dozen coaches in soccer literally from morning to night 24 hours a day and this is why i am here today because i had that kind of upbringing and why i became a fanatic to be chairman of the president s council and fitness i went through all 50 states if i was hundreds of kids outside because the parents are working there is nobody there for those kids so i feel sorry they dont have somebody there helping them with homework to pick them up at the sports field. Or whatever it says that is where the idea came from. I would give anything if i would give anything back to this country by starting Afterschool Programs and start showing me the way how to do it. My dad was born for and he said the liberals and the conservatives get a wrong liberals think you can give them the money to stop them from being for but if your report in your heart or skills or selfesteem you may not be broken buy you have to climb that ladder yourself because every kid has to climb that ladder out of poverty with their own effort and you are building ladders and we appreciate that. I cannot stress enough and how we Pay Attention to our kids and then to keep up with the school in the base to give them to during the then to fall behind in math. But if they fall behind that helps. So a couple more questions the first time you were involved in politics so i was angry angeles i never got one thing done. Because without first ballot measure would have a billion dollars in a bear as the professionals embarrassed the professionals but the civilrights groups we are fighting with each other will hold 1990s. The republicans and democrats with the young and the old is not fair. So how could you pull this off . To get republicans and democrats to Work Together . No way we did it there was a lot of people that helped it was known that Law Enforcement to get the kids off the streets because they talk about the danger zone just like the teachers union. Can you endorse this . It is fantastic as long as they dont create competition so this is how we went from Community Organizations and then everyone starts to get involved. I am a very inclusive person so everybody is interested in having kids with those Afterschool Programs and then to have millions of dollars of my own money to with that initiative that is how you put shift over the top so for years i have tried to get in touch with legislators in california but nobody wanted to meet and then the governor and he did not want to meet. Not to give money to politicians they did not understand the value so the next best thing we can do with that great political system is through the Initiative Process but that is exactly what we did not solve those poll numbers and then became part of it. Which was great i didnt hold any grudges but we did it with 60 percent of the vote. It may have been the last great bipartisan and has gotten some pretty interesting directions. So youve seen to be a sponge were for you go this seems to just learn and learn the you can read a bunch of folks and a bunch of the kids. What has this community taught you . I think every time you do something it doesnt matter i have been a National Coach for Special Olympics for instance for the last four years ago most people dont know that i just came from the Special Olympics and austria because in winter it is sports people say they you pump these guys up then you come around but the fact is i watched them and the obstacles they have to overcome the unbelievable key races whatever the sport is with the olympics is spectacular with all of the obstacles. To me that is really inspirational they dont look at it as an obstacle they just train and i get inspired for them. When i go around to the community and the way the kids grow what been the lack of money and opportunity that inspires me and it creates a fire in the belly because i was very privileged i had a lot of help from a parents and the publisher of business magazine and with those opportunities to do great movies that won them all to have those same opportunities to see it the way they live and the lack of opportunities they have that inspires me in turn to go out and do something about that and a leg to sit in front of the Television Set and complain. That is a national sport. So instead of complaining about something it is better to have a solution. [applause] and do something about it because i cannot believe what is going on in washington. This is terrible. And they complain. Congress has a 15 percent Approval Rating that is worse than the colonoscopy is. And so i say to myself that is 98 . [laughter] so you are the problem. So do something about it. Listen carefully to what they say and think about redistricting reform. [applause] i have more questions than time. We have a town hall meeting. Is live at 6 00 on the west coast. I have never gotten that much publicity than cn end of last three days. [laughter] to say this is great selection also mention the movie aftermath. Aftermath. [laughter] then. The last question is about what you want them to give it out of being together many people were offended in fact, theyre only three in a 15 year period it thought it was important for people to come together now. Wine now . First of all, our summit goes from city to city if you host the olympics and in the neck city and the neck city or the next country were very happy to pose to have a Great Institute to be an extraordinary partner and we would love to do lead to as many times as possible with the budget being cut with Afterschool Programs. But it is great and it is no different than be arnold classic with the sports and fitness festival together every year it brings people together i tell you theres so much extraordinary work being done out there. And then they go to some little plays with an Afterschool Program and then i see kids who were eight years old great chess players. In philadelphia i said can you believe this . It is the greatest game in weeks you thinking and planning ahead with a strategy. Every time you go somewhere to do Something Interesting and to do their homework so everyone sitting in here has their own way of thinking so people are so passionate and to provide Afterschool Programs but only with the 1. 2 billion dollars in the budget but the rest of the 20 million kids with the Afterschool Program so they can also be part of a program. There is a lot of fire in the belly and they will get it done eventually. So we will never stop until we get there. [applause]. Join the discussion.
