Capitol hill to ask members of congress what they are reading this summer. I love this time of year for so many reasons but one of them is having the Summer Reading list, things i can focus on, things i wanted to read through. A couple things i just just finished that i really enjoyed, i highly recommend just finished a lincoln by ron white, biography of what my favorite people, being from illinois its hard not to be a huge Abram Lincoln fan but this had so much to information that i just didnt know thats i really enjoyed a lincoln. Also growing up in chicago huge cubs fan just finished cubs way, and a really fun story about the last 108 years of struggles for the cubs to find when the world series last year and then walking through literally game by game of the world series. It was a fun read. Once i couldnt put down. I also finished the book recently by eric called it you can keep it. Really referencing the question that mention franklin had walk at independence hall. What selfgovernance of all about and what we have to do to protect our liberty and this great government that we enjoy. Those are three things i just finished. Eating into a couple of the books just started senator mike lee hes book written out of history which is an interesting book a lot about many founders the with kind of forgotten about or maybe a little bit of misinformation about. Ive enjoyed that even though i am a few chapters into it, something ive really enjoyed. Another one i am reading that is tough to read was so important is called locus affect written by gary haugen whose heads up International Justice mission. They do a lot of fighting against human rights abuses, political persecution and also humantrafficking. The locus affect talks about how those important poverty situations have a much higher likelihood of violence being apart of their life of impacting their life, more powerful calming and taking them, their children, their belongings, their home, the property. Very upsetting but so important for us to recognize. This is going on today and time back to the book i started with, a reminder that theres more people enslaved today than when Abraham Lincoln what president. So we need to be engaged, informed, aware of whats happening and that we can make a difference by knowing that its happening not just run the world right now but in her own backyard. Ive got chicago ohare just outside my district and it is a hub unfortunately for human trafficking. We need to know we can do to fight back against that. That i am also reading throughe book of romans in the new testament, and just amazed all the great information that is interesting. A lot of good things and working on but these are some of things im excited about. Booktv wants to know what youre reading. Booktv recently visited capitol hill to ask members of congress what they are reading this summer. Well, im reading a book i am really enjoying tom freedmans latest thank you for being late, and i am a big fan of tom friedman. He lectured back in my alma mater in april and i think its an important bridge as to where we are in Technology Today and where we are going to be in the next ten years talking about moores three and a lot of things going on but im usually reading multiple books. I just got me jims book on president Andrew Jackson and am looking for to getting into that and i finish recently a book on the wright brothers. Very interested in biographies of americans have made a difference. And ive always been a big aviation buff, and followed development, was on the science committee. And i recommend reading to all my staff. We learn every day, and the challenge i always have is trying to find time to read because of all the other reading of got to do. I always tell students who are here, i didnt care for homework very much when i was in high school and university, and i look back and i think i do all the more homework today than ever did when i was in school. If i applied myself and the reading is the key there calving a Strong Foundation and having good reading habits, regardless of what youre reading, whether it be american history, world history, whether were talking about biographies, whether were talking about certain times in history of mankind, you know, science. Its a way that we make ourselves obviously better educated, but the thirst for knowledge, that curiosity that we have in each of us in one way or another is enhanced by good reading habits, and reading regularly. Of course the challenge many of us have is to make sure we find the time to read things would like to read besides what we have to do every day. Thank you so much free time, congressman. Okay, thank you. Keep reading. Booktv wants to know what you are reading. Send us your Summer Reading list via twitter booktv or instagram booktv or post it to our Facebook Page facebook. Com booktv.
