>> it's a mess out there. and it makes you wonder if they're going to be able to get it b ready for friday. they've had a lot of rain here coming into this week. we've had a couple of nice days before today, but it just never stopped raining. i mean, i it's still kind of sprinkling right now. if they get anymore rain overnight, it's going to make a real tough job for the grounds crew to get it ready in time to go back out there. >> we know the usga has strict rules. if these conditions persist what's their feeling on the lift, clean and place rule? >> their feeling is they won't do it. it's a fairly common practice on the pga tour because it's more a matter of getting the competition completed. but with the usga they feel pretty strongly which is that you play the ball as it lies. if they feel that athe conditions aren't good enough for that, they'll suspend play. so there will be no lift, clean and place at any point during the u.s. open. >> right now, who do the conditions favor? >> i think they favor guys who can just roll with this. who don't get bothered by having to get up at 4:30 tomorrow morning and warm-up, and then maybe not play or have to wait or play a few to get back in. so it's guys who can deal with this. there are going to be a lot of long days. a bunch of guys never even teed off. so they're looking at trying to get their first round started and then maybe the second round. it's going to be a a long weeke, so nobody that can deal with that will be farther ahead than anybody that gets agitated by the whole thing. >> is that an advantage, given what the weather was? or is there no real advantage for not teeing off, considering you're going to have to do maybe double the work on friday? >> yeah, i think you can look at it both ways. guys who got off to a bad start today are certainly going to think that it's a disadvantage that they played. but the guys who kind of hung in there for a few holes are that much farther along, they'll have that many fewer holes to play. at some point they'll play a lot of holes. either saturday or sunday, they'll look to play at 27 or 36 holes if they can get to it. and the ones who have played the least are going to have it easier in terms of their fitness and the long days that they're going to have. >> if they have to play 36 holes on sunday, can tiger's knee hold on? >> that's a great question, because he really hasn't had to do that yet. i mean, there's been little tests along the way, playing back-to-back weeks, that sort of thing. >> the events that tiger's played, i'm sure he'll down play it. he'll say he's ready to do it. but i think it's a hurdle in the back of his mind that he'll have to cross and see how it goes. >> try to stay dry down at bethpage. >> thank you so much. >> coverage of the u.s. open, friday, all over our family of networks.
