Dr. Roe, as chair of the Veterans Affairs committees, would the past problems with the crisis hot lines, the suicide hot lines, have they been resolved . The crisis, obviously, suicide is incredibly its one of the saddest things i can think of its completely preventable. The last estimate was around 20 veterans a day. That is unbelievable. The last hot line was established in 2007. It definitely has problems but improved dramatically. We had a hearing last week. I was encouraged by it. Its not where it needs to be yet. But theyre picking up 99 point something decimal points of the calls and i think they have saved lives. I really do. Because you never know for sure and it will take probably several years to see if we have a decrease in that. We know veterans commit suicide 20 more than the population in general. That didnt used to be the case. Were not sure why that is. Used to before 9 11, the suicide rate among the military was less than it was than the general population. I think something has changed and i think there are people out there, myself, and everyone on the committee is committed to doing everything we can to make Resources Available to make it preventable, and we need to do as much as we can.
