These campaigns have been working hard for a long time. They have a lot of dedicated supporters. It might be that folks in our native village here in washington are agitating these things, but i think it will not have an impact, certainly in february amongst the candidates who they are talking about. You dont get out in the Iowa Caucuses, but scott walker did, you are part of his campaign. He said we were muddying the waters. The field of candidates needs to narrow. Yes, he did. He believed that. He did not at that point see a direct path for himself. He believed that was the right thing to do, that he was not maybe successful this time. He pulled back. Much to his credit of seeing the reality that is unfolding. That is very different from being here in january, six days before iowa. The candidates who are still there have made a commitment. Their mindset is such that they will hear what the others have to say. We will get some calls and. Alan is in brooklyn, democrat. In morning. Good morning. Alan . Allen good morning. I recall that after the terror events in paris and San Bernardino there were a number of comments by various candidates. Even some of the more moderate candidates on the gop side decrying not only by the state of muslim terror, but also by making like it statements that along best among the syrians trying to escape from the region of strife, that only christians should be allowed through. Also ted cruz in his recent remarks about new york values focused on media and money as a tease codewords that directly as if to use codewords with the interpretation that he is against jews. As a jewish republican, how do you feel about some of the openly or more covert comments by those who openly appeal to evangelical christians, as if that is a political identification. Mr. Ginsburg i dont buy the basic. Assumptions of the question i think the policy prescriptions they are putting out will be just by all. That is the way democracy works. I understand that sometimes people of the opposite party have unusually negative and harsh use of the opponents. That is what makes a democracy. Host akron, ohio, independent. Terry thank you for cspan. I would like to know, mr. Ginsburg, your opinion on what donald trump or ted cruz it looks like they will be the guys in the general election given that they do not have a really good strategy with minorities. And they do need them for the general. I will hang up and listen. Dont i ami not sure they concede basic premise that they do not have a strategy for minorities. You have certainly heard donald trump talk of a great deal about his outreach and the Minority Community, and his friends in the Minority Community. The positiontaken that the way you build up republicans support in the Minority Community is to stick to the values that are republican and conservative. Those in fact will help lift those who need help up by sticking to those core conservative principles. When it comes time for the election, it will be a fight for two visions of the country. Conservative vision of small government, and large government vision from the democrats. Again, the glory of being in a democracy, the voters will decide. Host spartanburg, south carolina, an early state, a republican. Jean hello. I am a republican. I was donald trump to win and change the government from the constitution down. They kept the minorities out. Lets change this completely. Let the people be the judge of whatever we do. That is my comment. Ginsburg host can i call you part of the establishment . Mr. Ginsburg i think i represent all. Host what do you make of this donald trump, ted cruz they are running on his antiestablishment campaign. Mr. Ginsburg they have tapped into something that is obviously out there in the country. Disaffection with washington as it exists. Bernie sanders is doing the same thing on the democratic side against Hillary Clinton who you would term and establishment candidate. There is indeed something out in the land that probably has a number of reasons. There is an angry electorate. Happensat do you think first if donald trump were to not run as a republican. Lets say he gets upset with what is happening and decides to run as an independent. What happens than . Then . Mr. Ginsburg he said he would not do that, and signed a pledge. I take him at his word about not doing that. Host what about the idea of Michael Bloomberg jumping on . Mr. Ginsburg from what i have read, i believe he would consider that if you have donald trump and Bernie Sanders as the nominee maybe ted cruz and Bernie Sanders as the nominees. That is the triple bank shot before it gets there. Host can you do that . Is there anything that prohibits Michael Bloomberg from jumping in once the nominees are made . Mr. Ginsburg there are no legal barriers. There are a lot of practical barriers. It is hard to get on the ballot in all 50 states. Resource Service Resources are what you have to throw it that. He has ample resources. Certainly not impossible. Host donald trump says he will not show up at thursdays debate in i and i went because of megyn kelly being fox news moderator. What do you think that does to his president ial bid . Does that have an impact . Mr. Ginsburg we will feasibly interesting play out in the next few days on the one hand it is a moment of strength for him. More than megyn kelly as the moderator, the press releases that fox put out show a certain degree of getting involved in the contest, and about personalities. The rnc stops the National Review from being in a debate. They kicked out nbc after cnbc debate. Not the same as in racing. Standards for the not the same as nbc. The standards have gotten bottled muddled. Donald trump took something and is trying to show a moment of strength. The flip is his opponents will insist that he is afraid to debate. He does not want to debate. But he hasnt succeeded what he has succeeded in doing his commanding the news cycle, much to the judgment detriments to his opponents that are trying to break through. So thursday night, will there be an audience . Will be piling on of donald trump hurt him with the electorate . Or in fact will that furnishes outsider credential . Burnish his outside credential . Host you mentioned the cnbc debate, republicans were upset. They had a meeting here in washington to talk about getting back the language leverage. What role did you plan a meeting . Play in that meeting. Could they have predicted what donald trump is doing based on that meeting . Ginsburg a beating itself was an aggression of the frustration of campaigns. To be there because i have done a lot of debates and campaign. I am neutral in the contest. Meeting wasof the to be sure that the campaigns were talking directly to the sponsors of the debate. In fact having the rnc as a thirdparty has not been a helpful development for that. That has happened since this. There is a lot of contact between the campaigns and the debate sponsors. And the debate since the cnbc debate have been of a higher quality. Candidates chance to talk about their vision for the future, as opposed to the sort of gotcha questions that occurred before. Conversations was there a request from the Donald Trump Campaign in that meeting that they would choose who can moderate a debate . Mr. Ginsburg no. Campaigns will always have beliefs about who are fair moderators and not fear moderators. They are moderators. Moderators. The day after the debate, the story should not be about the moderator, it should be about the campaign. Debates are not about credentialing moderators. There about giving the candidates chance to talk about their visions. Moderators can credential themselves on tv shows and interview shows. No, there was no specific conversation about choosing moderators other than the general notion that the debate should be about the candidates, not moderators. Host lowell, and huntington, West Virginia, democrat. Lowell good morning. Thank you for taking my call. There is gerrymandering. In West Virginia we had 55 counties. We only have 34 state senators. Oft constitute the majority 18 senators to 55 counties. Had a democrat who was elected on the democratic ticket to our state senator then he changed parties. He changed after being elected a democrat, he changed to a republican state senator. He passed away. The courts ruled, even though the public had elected a ocrat, that our governor they would appoint a republican state senator to a position that was elected by the public to be a democrat. Host what is your question . Lowell a majority of 18 republicans ruled all 55 counties. Anyone can see West Virginia is primarily democrat. Host mr. Ginsburg, any thoughts . Ginsburg announcer are going to break away from this washington journal segment and take you live to west des moines, iowa. That is the chairman for the senator ted cruz. We also expect rick perry to speak at this event being billed as a prolife rally. Live coverage now on cspan. But it gets better. I kept driving through mount pleasant, on the other side of town there was another sign. It said, put god back in the government. [applause] i thought about that. What does that really mean . Let me tell you what it means to president s having a who is willing to kneel down, and ask god for guidance as he is leading the country. To me, that is what that means. Man telling you that that is ted cruz. [applause] i look at our country, and i am scared. Washington is broken. We keep sending pop politicians to washington who say they will fight for us, and then when they get there, what happens . They do the opposite. Not ted cruz. Not ted cruz. You can trust ted cruz. And why . He does not just talk the talk. But he walks the walk. And that is what we need. [applause] now it is my honor and privilege ,o introduce our next speaker jason jones, who is a national cochair for prolifers for cruz. Please welcome, jason. [applause] jason i live in honolulu, hawaii, i am a filmmaker out of los angeles. There is no place in the world i would rather be than right here in iowa. [applause] i will tell you why, at 17 years old, as a Young Private and army, my High School Girlfriend found out she was pregnant. As a young man, i committed myself to one thing, which was being full Legal Protection for the child in the womb. That inspired me to become a film maker to inspire the heart of america. I dont know if you have seen my. lm, bella there is nothing more powerful than art, and that is law. We so privileged to live in the United States of america. We are so pillaged to live in a constitutional privileged to live in a constitutional republic. You are so privileged to live in iowa. What a privileged position you are in. [applause] i have been campaigning hard since i was 17. There has never been a candidate for president that i could vote for, that i knew, not only had courages, but have the and the fortitude to fight for those values. Senator cruz is that man. [applause] i remember when we were sharing in texas, anda the director came running out to the lobby. He said, you have to come here this man speak. I think he will be president of the United States. Iwent into my said down, and looked at alejandra and said, that man, take ruth, is going to be ted cruz, is going to be president of the United States. God bless you, work hard for senator ted cruz. I wish i was in your position. [applause] welcome to the states, congressman, louis gomer. Stage, congressman, louie gohmert. [applause] gomer hey folks, boy, isnt it good to be in iowa . Are we glad this is where the election season starts . Isnt that great . Well, it is a treat to be here. My first time here sometime some years back i was invited by he is the best friend i have in congress. I dont know if you know him, steve king. [applause] judges we had had some if you recall who had said in an opinion that this got my attention, having been a former district judge in chief justice, they said that there is no biological evidence to support nature having a preference over whether it is heterosexual marriage, samesex marriage, and so i was asked because i wanted to legislate, and knew i would never do it from the bench, so i left and ran for the opportunity to legislate not from the bench. I fell in love with people here going across iowa. How this election up, thea would shape guy that i endorsed is like april or may, i thought ted has a good chance. We are prolife. Right . [applause] steve and i are on the Judiciary Committee together. We had a doctor testify i think he said he did over 1000 abortions in lateterm. It was meaningless to him. Then what one day it hit him like a ton of bricks. I had to get up and walk out of the hearing at one point because he was describing what he said give some nightmares now gives him nightmares now. That he would kill for something that he figured would feel for something that he figured was a limb, and pull it off. When he did that four times, he us andor something bulb would grab it with his clamps, and crush it, and then pull it off. Own personal history, my wife, kathy, and i have in june we will have been married 38 years. [applause] blessing fromle come 810d to try to weeks prematurely. Chances were not really good for us there in tyler texas tyler, texas. They tried to delay her birth because the doctors said, it is amazing, he is a strong christian he said the way god works, if labor starts early the Development Process speeds up. So however much longer we can keep her in utero, that increases her chance of making it once she is for born. T started on tuesday saturday come on tuesday morning, about 5 00 a. M. Katie decided she was coming. When she was born she let out a cry. I said to the doctor, that is good, right . He said, there is no way to know. Having done a lot of work in the medical field, and defended a lot of doctors am actually, i knew a lot about blindness and preemies if they are exposed to too much oxygen. When i saw them go in her iso lete from 20 to 100 , i knew she was in trouble. The pediatrician did not see me sitting there. I was praying for katie. He came rushing through. He went straight to her. He was going to wait to get the tube into her lungs to get the oxygen directly until the team from shreveport got there. They have a toplevel neonatal icu. He worked and there were three times when the sensors went off. They lost her. He does mouthtomouth, and they bring her back three times. Anyway, he came out dripping intubated. Ot her he saw me and said, it is not as easy it looks as it looks. I said dr. , it does not look easy. Thank you for working so diligently on our child. The and length got there to take her to the toplevel neonatal icu the ambulance got there to take her to the top level the enable icu. Kathy was having problems. She said, do whatever you can for a child our child. I went. We were midway between shreveport in dallas on interstate 20. The pediatrician said i said, which do you recommend . He said, either is great, but they have a better survival rate entry in shreveport. That was at that time. We went. The neonatologist said, you need to come here. They brought me where they had the katie and. In. They had her hooked up. He said now, it is very important that you touch her ,aress her face, rub her arm and talk to her. Her eyes are not developed enough yet that she can see you. She knows your voice from in utero. She has been hearing your voice for months. You talked to her in touch her you talk to her and touch her. After id been there for a while , you understand with a preemie, one of the last things to develop or the lungs. Are the lungs. That is the biggest problem. The breathing is so intensely shallow. It is really fast, shallow breaths. They were irregular. After id been there an hour or so, the doctor said, have you looked at the monitors . I said, no. I looked up still fast breathing, but they had stabilized. He said, she is drawing strength from you. She is drawing life from you. Well, you know i cant get up. On latched on to the ends of my indexing or finger with her tiny hands and she was not letting go. She was drawing strength from me, and there was no way i was leaving. Eight hours later they said, sir, you have to take a break. I said, i cannot leave. They made me leave. They said, you have got to take a break. It is not healthy for you. Anyway, i took a short break. My mind was back there with katie. I ran into the back of a lady, the officer was kind. I could not wait to get back. Having had a child hold on to the end of my finger, clinging to life because she wanted to and she is visiting from burley. She is an artist in residence. Picked one of 12 artists to live in shanghai for six months. She is incredible. Anybody couldat pull those limbs from that child , or flush that child down a and say,or take parts whether we will sell them or not, they will be helpful down a ways somewhere for research. Ent,s so important abhorr and unconscionable, that at times at some it is hard to understand how some people can take the positions they do. Including a president , who as a senator would be totally opposed to a law that says if the abortion fails, you have got to let the child with live. I am telling you, i have known ted cruz for a number of years now, and everybody talks about how brilliant he is. Yes, he is incredible as a an attorney arguing before the Supreme Court , an attorney arguing before his wife. [laughter] he is absolutely incredible. I know that i have had temptations, like a lot of people, want to support the second person in the history of ask god not to need to for forgiveness. I know that is a struggle. I have settled on an endorsement that is not moving. It is for the guy that knows who he is. He knows who god is. Knows that create our creator that our founders wrote about. He knows that our rights do not come from government, they come from god. Our job is to protect them. Every one of those rights. Its an honor to be with you tonight. I am excited. I am thrilled. Here is rick perry. Governor rick perry. [applause] you. Perry thank was one of my freshman at texas a m when i was a senior. He did really well at everything except being punctual. Thank you all for being here tonight. We are on the cusp of history. I hope all of you know that iowa the opportunity to change the course of history. Those are not just words. You all that will pack up your on monday and go to that caucus have the ability, the opportunity, you have the responsibility to change history and get this country back on track again. [applause] there is only one individual, one individual that you will have the opportunity to caucus for a monday night that is a consistent conservative who understands that constitution from front to back. Only one. There is only one individual that you will have the opportunity to go and caucus for. That truly can go to washington dc standing without constitution gethand in hand, and power out of washington dc, back to the state. [applause] years i had the extraordinary privilege to represent the state of texas as its governor. I had an attorney general, and a solicitor general but did not mind suing the federal government when i got out of line, and they got out of line way too often. [applause] when there were those who wanted to take the 10 commandments off of the grounds of the capital it was ted cruz that was standing in front of that Supreme Court, defending our rights have those 10 commandments on those capital grounds. Come hat committed conservative. That consistent conservative. I know one thing about ted cruz, number one he knows more about that constitution than anybody on that caucus list. Secondly he will stand up for it every day. He is a powerfully, incredibly sharp intellect. He is also a man that i have gotten to know over the last four months. Just because he was my lawyer did not mean i knew that much about him. [laughter] it is true. Multiple timese and say, governor, i want to sit down with you. 80 miles outside of austin, texas, he took a day off from his president ial. That was precious. Outside of his family and his faith, his time is the most precious thing he has. A day to meme so i could talk to him about i wanted to know who ted cruz, the man was. I wanted to come back to iowa tell you, i know this man. Ive had the opportunity to sit down and talk to him. Here is what i found one of the great gifts he has come up this man might be the best listener of anyone i have been involved with in public office. That is a gift. The other thing i found out in those conversations and phone call subsequently, ted cruz knows what he does not know. You know how important that is in the oval office . In the most powerful job in the world, to know what you do not know. To realize you have to have people around you that our experts that you interest and empower to deal with those agencies and government. To deal with this foreign countries. To deal with military and foreign affairs. There are some people who do not know what they do not know. [laughter] know what i mean . Thats here is me. That scares me. I do not want, in the oval office, somebody that thinks they know everything. That person has not been born yet. That man or woman is not alive, and never will be. I want somebody to put the team together. [applause] wrap up with three things that are incredibly important for my perspective about the characteristics of a leader. In my 35 plus years of public service, as a pilot in the United States air force, and working in texas state government, i have had the opportunity to observe a lot of people. A real leader, a real leader, a great leader is an individual of humility, utility a person who understands they work for you, not the other way around. All too often people want to go to washington dc or they want to be the governor of the state that they can wield that power. They can have the trappings of that office. Ted cruz understands that he will work for you. He is your hired hand. He will do your will. He is going to tell you what he will do and then do it. The second characteristic, i want somebody courageous. I want an individual of courage and that artists in that office. To be ourruz asked senator in texas, he stood up and said this is what i am going to do if you have the trusted me to be your u. S. Senator i will go to washington and do everything in my power to defund obamacare. I will do everything i can to make sure [applause] iam going to do everything can to make sure the economy comes back in this country so that any hardworking, ablebodied american that what the job has a job. [applause] he said, i am going to do everything i can to make sure that our military men and women have the support they need, and we will not get into the nationbuilding business. We will not send our young men and women into places, unless ricas interest are [no audio] hello. Thank you. Rick perry he did exactly what he said he would do. He is the consistent conservative in this contest. The third thing. [applause] i want a president of the United States and the oval office that is grateful. Grateful to god almighty. And knows that they are there in that place by the grace of god. And those of you that know ted his father, an alcoholic, left his family, but by the grace of god came back. Convicted. Understands the concepts of grace. Probably gets up every morning god for forgiveness a couple of times, at least before breakfast. Some people dont have to do that. Most of us do. By the grace of god, this man knows that he could be in a lot , had jesust places christ not convicted his father. I want a man of futility. Humility. I was a man of courage, and someone who is grateful to god for where they find themselves in life. That is the characteristics of a great leader. [applause] ladies and gentlemen you caucus for ted cruz, and you will get that consistent, conservative. You will get a man of god. You will get a powerful individual as the next president of the United States. [applause] it is up to you. The future of this country is in your hands. I have hadman who the great privilege to get to know over the course of my trip to iowa trips to iowa many times since 2011 who has given a will deal of his life, his just thissure to not great state, but our country. , a united the stage states congressman, who is making a difference, and again, a convicted conservative of extraordinary beliefs, senator excuse me, i just raised your title congressman steve king. [applause] steve king thank you. Thank you so much, rick. I am energized now after i heard rick perry. I was looking around here and thinking, birds of a feather flock together. Tony perkins is here, louie gohmert, i just gave you names of people that came here to iowa to stand up for our values. I had a flashback from about 1998 when we wrote the defense of marriage act when i was a senator back then in a state senate. We wrote that marriage shall only be between one male and one female. [applause] then you saw what the Supreme Court did with that the iowa Supreme Court. And tony, and louis, and others came to the state to help. They were on the judge bus to her. Tour. We went around the state to stand up for our rights. You bounced three justices off the bench in 2010. [applause] we have had battle after battle since then. When i look around i see people that have the same common beliefs. On one day i need to tell you this, i go over to the Supreme Court to hear all of the arguments. I have the privilege of sitting on the Judiciary Committee of the u. S. Congress. I think they have a disadvantage, they have to argue both sides. Me, i just argue the right side. [applause] i went over there to hear the oral arguments on the 10 commandments. The front of the Supreme Court was filled with protesters from both sides. I had to climb around them, and actually climb through the hedge to get to the door. When i get to the door, it is a big, white building. It was a bright, sunny day, and my pupils were shrunken down. I looked up in there and all i could see was a white shirt and a oil and a smile. It was a guard. I said, i am congressman steve king to hear the oral arguments on a 10 commitments before the gun states of report. The United StatesSupreme Court. This is what i heard out of the darkness i am moses, and i am here to lead you. No kidding. The guards name was moses. He is my friend today. Led me in and out several times. I listened and i realized there was a solicitor general from a state of texas to argue the 10 commandments. He had put the case together. He and another man for the argument together to save our 10 commandments. That is when i first realized to ted cruz was. Now time after time, before the Supreme Court, defending life, parental and gun, and notification for the state of New Hampshire, the list goes on and on. Our values are his values. When i look around and i see ted cruz, i know that we are in a fight somewhere. Ted will either come to it or he might start it, and i come to it. I dont want to miss out on any of this. When he came to congress, we got to know each other early. Bottom of the the Capitol Building and talked about ideology in philosophy and policy, and what our goals were. It all matched up. Check all of the boxes. Later we went out and had a stake together. That lasted for five hours. I was sitting where i could see the rest of the restaurant lights were turned off, they left the light on over our table. Ted could not see the rest of the restaurant was set down. In mashup it matched up again. We are trying to save the country from the band the gays amnesty bill. Of all of the squabble that has been pushed out of that by other condit candidates in its race here in iowa, i want you to know that it is real simple. Set in the Judiciary Committee and offered amendment after amendment designed to kill the senate gang of eight bill. If you wonder about that, just know that chuck and jeff voted with him. Keep that in mind. [applause] ted will tell you that the immigration policy is a product of the collaboration of ted cruz and steve king. He said that at the debate here the other night. 11 pages is there. I signed off on every bit. Ted will protect our borders. We will build a wall that works. He will secure the border. This is the most important part he will restore the respect for the rule of law. [applause] about life it is real simple. I say this message, especially to young people. You only have to ask two questions, if human life sacred in all forms . We say universally, yes. Then you only have task what the ask one were question, at what moment does life begin . Moment of conception. Once you get those points down come you never lose the debate. Ted cruz has never lost a debate on a life or marriage issue. He memorized the constitution in high school. [applause] on the immigration debate, i could not get one and a house of representatives while they were working against our senate our interest in the senate. Like this, ande a big speaker and i announced a press conference for the day eight hours. I invited house and senate members. Once in a number showed up. You already know who ted cruz. [applause] and i introduced him. He took the stage. He spent 45 minutes giving chapters and verses of things you now know and heard that have heard. You can read on his website, at ted cruz. Org. In june ofd that 2013. His record is rock solid, and it goes back deep, and it is firm. One thing he does if he has endorsed a piece of legislation, that is his word and bond. We will only policy around that, but we will not change those things he has given his word on. He is a man of honor. [applause] have gotten to know heidi. I just say this about heidi a couple things, one is when ted walks into a room, he does not have to wonder how many people in that remark smarter than he is. He has that gift. I wonder every time. He doesnt have to wonder, but he is very humble about it. When heidi walks in the room, he has to wonder. They are a neat couple. They have two beautiful girls. When you watch them come you know there is a humanity and fake their faith there. He wants to serve america. Some of you were at the event i hosted last year when we had a president ial faith and freedom event. I said for that day and i said, i believe that the next president of the United States has spoken from that stage, probably the next Vice President and part of the cabinet also spoke on that stage. I also ask this i follow through on my side every day as consistently as you possibly can, raise up a prayer, ask god that he would use his influence to raise up a leader whom he will use to restore the full the soul of america. [applause] i came to that conviction. It was not just picking a name off the menu. The conviction is this it is the measure of the head, guts, and heart, they all have to line up. It lined up for me on november 13, 2015. It all settled in and it was right. I believe that god has raised up that leader. To sustainp to us him and carry him out of iowa with a resounding caucus tonight victory on monday night so that ted cruz can take the springboard out of iowa to New Hampshire, and bounce from New Hampshire to south carolina. A victory in iowa, New Hampshire, south carolina, he is set up for that super primary in the south that runs across the states on march 1. We can carry ted cruz into the white house and see our values in the whiteffice house, the United States of america, we can do it if we do it together. Lets do that together. Lets bring everyone we know to congress on monday night. Lets send iowa to a great victory. Lets send ted cruz to the white house. Thank you very much. [applause] and, i have this great privilege as one of my cobattlers i left out of my list who fought these battles all along, i have the chance to introduce them, bob vander flying, the head of family leader. He is a guy that came out of northwest iowa with a strong leadership in faith. Sometimes they challenged him. He was praying when he coached, they didnt think that was a good idea. We all thought it was a great idea. He has been fighting for every causally care about. He gave a speech yesterday that rocked the country and echoed through it might as even shaken and cracked them glass and an ivory mansion some place in new york there. Please welcome my very good friend, bob bender flyer. [applause] bob congressman king. Guys ready to elect a president for 2017 out of iowa . 1979 Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy for the presidency. When Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy he said this. He said i believe this country hungers and thirsts for a spiritual revival. You see Ronald Reagan what he was seeing in the late 70s was a country in a dead outspread from the heart of god. He knew the only way to bring the spring back would be for a spiritual revival. I dont know about you, but i know about me and 2016, this country hungers and thirst for a spiritual revival, to turn our hearts back to god am a his principles, and his precepts. [applause] just over a year ago i was in the nation of israel. When i was in israel, i was meeting with a Senior Advisor for benjamin netanyahu. When he found that i was from iowa, he looked at me and said, bob, two words, choose well. Choose well. Meaning all of the country all of americas eyes are on iowa right now. But dont be mistaken, all of the world dies worlds eyes are on iowa right now. His words echoed, choose well. For a person of faith, and a lot of you people of faith, had we know if we are choosing well . Scripture tells us index exit is 1821 it says this, in exodus 18 21, it says this choose those that are capable. Choose those that fear guard god. Choose those that are trustworthy. Choose those that hate dishonest gain. I believe this country would be well served if we went according to the principles when choosing who should be president of the United States. [applause] let me be transparent. Let me cut to the chase. I have a lot of friends in this race. I endorse Mike Huckabee in 2008. I endorsed Rick Santorum and 2012. Marco rubio, carly fiorina, ben carson, rand paul, all good friends. Anies and gentlemen, we need best to make a decision on monday night, this race has come down to two individuals donald trump and ted cruz. We need to choose well. If you want to vote for anybody else i would say that vote goes to donald trump, unless you vote for ted cruz. You need to tell your friends and neighbors to get out and unite behind ted cruz. [applause] exodus when i read eight 21, and i apply it to the candidates, i will be transarrant transparent. With donald trump, this is what said in the past that he has never asked got for forgiveness. He has also said he likes veterans who were not captured. Disparaging every prisoner of war. Many of you know our story. Darla and i have four boys. She argues that we have five. Our third son, lucas, is uniquely gifted. He was severely disabled by birth. Rocked myrocks world when i saw a candidate for the president of United States openly mocking and insulting people with disabilities. This country must have a higher standard than that. [applause] last weekend in seuss center, iowa, he said he could go out into new york city and shoot somebody. Anyone and he would not lose support. Right away i thought of john lennon, and the beatles saying, we are more popular than jesus. That is a pride and an arrogant, and a temperament that is a roll of the dice to be president of the United States. [applause] then when you want to know what it is all about, he made a run at the presidency, going up in the polls by taking on the establishment. Now he says the establishment is warming up because he is all about the art of the deal. He is willing to deal with them. I am telling you right now, the sanctity of human life is not up for the art of the deal. [applause] gods designed for marriage and family is not up for the art of the deal. Religious liberty is not up for the art of the deal. A relationship with the nation of israel is not up for the art of the deal. [applause] and our very constitution is not up for the art of the deal. [applause] now yesterday he took me on because i did not endorse him. He took me on in the twitter world. You need to know, i am the youngest of eight children. I grew up with older brothers. I know how to fight back when they want to push me around. We fought back, and we won that because the truth was on our side. What i want to tell you right cruz, you apply exit this 1821 again, ted cruz fears god. He knows who he is and who he served. He took a look take a look at being capable, he is exceptionally capable. He has one on the cross in the mojave desert. He has one on the sovereignty. He is one of us. He is trustworthy. He hates dishonest gain. I believe he can win. ,e Will Champion our values versus just tried to play our values. We need to get behind ted cruz. My dad [applause] my dad was part of the world war ii generation, they call that generation the greatest generation. The reason they were the greatest generation is because they put because of the country above themselves. And they are the greatest generation because they always stood in the gap when their country needed them to lead. I listened to my dad given memorial day speech he said this dont ever let it be said about the greatest generation that they lived, and died, and they were buried. He looked at a High School Band and he said you need to choose to be a great generation. You need to choose to put because of the country above yourself. You need to choose to stand in the gap when your country needs you. Right now, our country needs us to stand in the gap on february 1. We need to stand in the gap and get behind ted cruz and send the world a message of who we are behind. [applause] leaders all over the country are uniting. Leaders all over the state are uniting. On february 1, when you go to your caucus, get your friends, get your neighbors, get your Christmas Card list, get everyone you can think of, get to the caucus. Get united. Lets send america and message. Lets in the world of message in the nascent and the nation of israel a message that we in iowa chose well. [applause] i am thrilled to stand up here with congressman steve king, governor rick perry, congressman gomer, and so many others. Dr. James dobson is on this team. He knows that ted cruz will fight for the american family. Around, there is one endorsement i really want. The one endorsement i really wanted for ted cruz is because this guy has a high standard. He does not endorse easily. He is rocksolid. You know him, you see him on fox news a lot. You may get his email. You may listen to him on the radio. He is a constitutional judeochristian worldview american. He loves this country. When he saw what the stakes are, when he saw what this race was went onlast night he megyn kelly and he made his endorsement of senator ted cruz. What i want you to do is give a very warm welcome, and iowa welcome and appreciation for the newest endorser of senator ted cruz for president , would you help me welcome tony perkins of the Family Research council. [applause] tony perkins thank you. Thank you, bob. Bob for hisank leadership in not only iowa, but really in the nation. I want to thank you. I am here tonight to stand with ted cruz. Let me tell you [applause] let me tell you how bad i want to stand with ted cruz. I flew through chicago. [laughter] but i thought about it i was flying through the hometown of the current president so that i could stand with the next president. [applause] that there is a special place in heaven for people in iowa. Because you have to listen to all of the politicians. Now i can say that because i am a recovering politician. I spent nearly a decade in office in louisiana. I got nervous earlier when governor perry talked about convicted politicians. Most of the guys i knew had to be very clear about the number of terms they served. I want to encourage you to take it easy on these guys. It is a tough business. Ira member when i was first running for office i was knocking on doors. In south louisiana in the summertime it gets really hot. I was out campaigning and got caught in an afternoon thunder shower. Tony i handed her my card with the picture on it and she took the picture and she stared at it. She looked back at me and she goes, that picture is flattering. [laughter] tony it is a tough business. It is a tough business so take it easy on these guys. I am here for this coalition for life because there is nothing more fundamental than the right to life. [applause] tony we looked at what is happening in this country, and lets just take the last 43 years. On friday i stood in washington dc for the march for life. Courtrs ago, the supreme declared that a child was a choice. Rather than something to be cared for that was made in the image of its creator. That was not something that the people decided. It was not something that the state legislators, congress decided, it was the courts. Then we go back to june 26 of this past year where the court declared they knew better than 50 Million People when they imposed a redefinition of marriage. When you look at all of the things we care about, whether it is right or wrong, i think it is wrong the Court Decides it so many things. The court is directing this country. The next president will appoint two or three Supreme Court justices. This issue is being lost on a lot of people in this election. Unfortunately, the court does decide the culture of this country and that is wrong. It should not be that way. If we had strict constitutionalist on the court it would not happen. What is happened over the years is even the republican president s cannot discern a liberal from a conservative. And have you ever notice the democrats, when they appoint someone, we never turn out to be a conservative. I spent 10 years as a police officer. I can tell Police Officers. I am not going to point them out, but i can tell who the offduty Police Officers are in the audience. We know each other. Ted cruz is a strict constitutionalist. He can pick them out. If there is one person in this election for president that i want taking the next two or three Supreme Court justices, it is ted cruz. [applause] tony i want to ask you to talk to your friends, to do everything you can to caucus on monday night for the sanctity of human life knowing that the next president is going to be putting those Supreme Court justices on the court, and i will tell you what, i know a liberal will not be able to masquerade as a conservative in front of ted cruz. He will smoke them out, believe me. [applause] this has just been the warmup act for you. Are really here to see come on, help me out. You are here to see, not only my friend, someone i have spent time with, broken bread with, here toith, but see the next president of the United States of america. Please help me welcome, ted cruz. [applause] [applause] ted welcome. God bless the great state of iowa. [applause] 119 hours, that is how long we have. All of the noise, all of the , ite, fireworks, the circus has been kind of a circus. [laughter] 119 hours from now, the Iowa Caucuses begin. I have to say, what we are seeing here today is historic. What we are seeing here today is we are seeing conservatives coming together and uniting. All across this state of iowa, all across the country, this is something so many of us have dreamed about, has prayed for. Over and over washington has worked to divide us. They picked us against each other to have us fighting tooth and nail. At the patriots we have jason and, matt and louis and governor rick perry and steve king and bob bender plots and tony perkins. Array ofncredible principles, constitutionalist fighters who stand with the American People. [applause] ted you look at people like jack thurman who is here with us, a brave warrior who fought for this country and is fighting to save this country today. [applause] ted why is this happening . Why are conservatives coming together like never before . It is because the stakes, the threats to our country have never been greater. Tomorrow, we have a debate. Candidatese of the has chosen not to attend. [applause] ted apparently, mr. Trump considers megyn kelly very, very scary. [laughter] soul. Onald is a fragile she might ask a mean question, and who knows what could happen. His hair could stand on and end. I have to say, it is an amazing statement for a president ial candidate to say, i am not willing to show up for the debate. This entire process is a job interview. Years with a seven narcissistic, selfinvolved president in washington. [applause] who thinks the American People work for him, who behaves like an emperor. If he decrees something, it must be so. It has been all about obama, the chosen one or seven years. For seven years. What does it say when Donald Trump Tells the men and women of iowa, my time is more important than your time . On monday we will complete the full 99 counties of iowa. [applause] front of the in men and women of iowa, asking for your support, looking you in the eyes and asking answering the hard questions. That is what any candidate who hopes to win the state of iowa owes the men and women of the state. This is a job interview. Put upyou to imagine you an ad in the help wanted pages, looking for a new employee to administer the government and turn it around. Imagine someone called you and said, i want the job, but i am not showing up for the interview. [laughter] ted what would you say . You are fired. [applause] is donald finds megyn kelly so terribly frightening, i yesterday suggested an alternative. He and i are the leading candidates in the state right now, so how about the two of us in a oneonone debate . [applause] ted i am going to propose a that weestern iowa already have reserved. This will be on saturday night. [applause] 8 00 saturday be night, a twohour oneonone debate. Donald cannot handle megyn kelly, how about for them are greater moderator instead, mark levin question evin . Love [applause] ted how about sean hannity . If he does not like sean hannity, how about Rush Limbaugh . [applause] donald isntle sean andd by mark, rush, then we will have no moderator whatsoever. [applause] iowans. Own hall of donald, you can invite half the people and we will invite half the people and each of us will alternate, asking questions from the men and women of iowa who are going to vote in the caucus monday night. [applause] ted because at the end of the day, it is not really that donald is afraid of megyn kelly, it is not that he is afraid of mark, sean or rush, not that he is afraid of me, he is afraid of you. [applause] he does not want to answer questions from the men and women of iowa about how his record does not match what he is selling. [applause] i believe for any candidate to have a chance of winning iowa, you have to demonstrate the humility to stand in front of the people of this state, and i believe for any president to have the right temperament to be an effective president , not an imperial dictator like we have seen for the last seven years, you have to demonstrate the workedy to understand he for the American People and not the other way around. [applause] ted we have a venue, we have a time, all we are missing [laughter] candidate. In 119 hours, everyone in this room is going to have an important decision to make. So know, all of us are unbelievably frustrated because we keep winning elections and then losing. We had aold, if only Republican House of representatives, things would be different. Then we were told, if only we had a republican senate, then things would be different. We have had republican majorities in both houses for over a year now, and how has that worked out . Feel ahe American People profound sense of the trail betrayal, of candidates who say one thing and then do another. We cannot yet burned again. The stakes are too high, if we listen up again, if we to the Campaign Rhetoric again and get fooled again, we cannot get burned again. Let me suggest a test that the men and women of iowa may wish to apply. We need to distinguish the candidates, to distinguish who you can trust from her you cannot. It is a test of the scriptures, you should know them by their fruits. My advice to everyone here is do not listen to a word any of the candidates say. Say, doisten to what i not listen to what donald says, really, do not listen to what donald says. [laughter] ted did not listen to what any of the candidates say. Instead say simply, show me. Show me your record. Show me when you have walked the walk. An old boss of mine said, if im ever accused of being a christian, i would like for there to be enough evidence to convict me. The same thing is true of being a conservative. If you are really a conservative, you should not have to tell anybody because you will have been in the foxholes and bear the stripes from a standing and fighting for your values. [applause] ted if tony perkins woke up tomorrow and decided he wanted to run for office as an establishment moderate, he could not do it. Bob suddenly decided he was going to run as an establishment moderate, if steve king suddenly woke up and said this looks pretty good, they could not do it. Why . Because they have walked the walk. They bear the stripes. To theirk is witness testimony, not their words but their actions and leaderships and sacrifice. I am going to suggest seven battles that we ought to test every one of the candidates on. These are seven battles that work for times of choosing. This is a rally for life and we have announced our national coalition, over 17,000 prolife activists over the country standing together with this campaign. [applause] ted the right to life is fundamental. Without life, there is no liberty, there is no pursuit of happiness and every human life is a precious gift of god and should be protected from the moment of conception until the moment of natural death. [applause] ted every candidate in a republican primary will tell you they are prolife. That is what you say in a republican primary, regardless of the facts. The question we are to ask is, do not tell me you are prolife, show me when have used when have you stood up to thought fight for the right for life . We led a coalition before the Supreme Court, defending the federal ban on partialbirth abortion and we won 54. [applause] ted we led another coalition before the Supreme Court, defending New Hampshires law on parental notification and we won, unanimously. [applause] and texas, when the state legislator passed a bill defunding planned parenthood, a local District Court struck down that law. I personally argued the case to the court of appeals and we won, unanimously reinstating the law defund plannedo parenthood. [applause] ted if you care about the right to life, there is a clear difference among the candidates. Supportsump, today, taxpayer funding for planned parenthood. , on my first aid in office, i intend to instruct the u. S. Department of justice to open an investigation into planned parenthood and prosecute any and all criminal violations. [applause] ted if the right to life matters to you, there is a clear and meaningful difference among the candidates. Lets talk about the second battle, the second time for choosing, and that is marriage and religious liberties. Of last year, we saw a shameful decision from the United StatesSupreme Court, five unelected judges arrogantly tearing down the marriage laws of all 50 states. When that decision came down, that was a time for choosing. Where a line in the sand every candidate could decide on which line of the sand do they stand. Of the leading republican candidates, including donald trump and marco rubio said publicly, this decision is settled. It is the law of the land and we should accept it, surrender and move on. Those are word for word, the talking points of barack obama. There is something profoundly wrong when republican president ial candidates are reading for Barack Obamas talking points on marriage. My view is fundamentally different. Is fundamentally illegitimate, lawless, judicial activism, inconsistent with the constitution and it will not stand. [applause] ted if marriage matters to you, and let me point out, the United StatesSupreme Court did not invent marriage. Marriage preceded the United StatesSupreme Court, cyprien it preceded the United States. We have seen connected to this battle on marriage, the battle over religious liberties. Many folks attended the rally we held several months ago, listening to heroes who stood and stood for their faith and were persecuted by the government. For me, religious liberty has been a lifelong passion. Last 20 yearshe fighting for religious liberty, defending and taxes the 10 commandments texas the 10 commandments monument and 54. Ng, [applause] words, oneing the nation under god and the pledge of allegiance, going to the Supreme Court and winning, unanimously. [applause] ted and defending over 3 , theon veterans nationwide womento honor the men and who gave their lives in world war i. Going to the Supreme Court and winning, 54. [applause] if marriage and religious liberty matter to you, the question you should ask is not words do you say, but have you walked the walk . When have you defended marriage . When have you ever defended religious liberty . When have you stood up and put action to what you claim to believe . You, if we nominate president who spent the first 60 years of his life supporting partialbirth abortion, we should not be surprised when we see the Supreme Court justices that that president puts on the Supreme Court. [applause] radical and activist as this current Supreme Court is, we are one justice away from a leftwing majority, which would tear down the fundamental liberties of this country. If we do not want to get burned again, as we have been over and over and over again, then we cannot listen to the Campaign Rhetoric. We have to ask, if we want a president who will defend life, marriage, religious liberty, we have to ask, have you walked the walk and do you bear the stripes . , a third timee for choosing was the battle over guns. 2013, wering of remember the tragic shooting in newtown, connecticut where president obama could have run us all together. He could have brought democrats and republicans together and say, lets go after violent criminals. Instead, he did what he has done so many times, he tried to divide us and he said instead, lets go after the constitutional right to keep and bear arms of lawabiding citizens. Let me tell you, the Second Amendment is not about hunting. [applause] ted it is not about ski sho oting or target shooting. That is not why it is in the bill of rights. It is in the bill of rights because if anyone comes into your home and seeks to harm your family and children, we have a godgiven right to protect our families and protect our children. [applause] ted harry reid and Chuck Schumer of the democrats launched an assault on the Second Amendment in the spring of 2013, millions of americans rose up against it and i was proud to stand and lead that fight. [applause] ted when it came time for a floor, the Senate Everyone of Barack Obamas proposals to undermine the Second Amendment was voted down on the senate floor. [applause] ted now, and a republican primary, every republican candidate will say they support the Second Amendment. Unless you are clinically insane, that is the right answer in a republican primary. The question to ask of the individuals standing on the stage is in the spring of 2013 when the assault was on, when obama was targeting the Second Amendment, where were you . Where were you . Did you stand up and defend the Second Amendment, or would you nowhere to be found . , the fourthattle time for choosing was the battle over obamacare. Obamacare is the single biggest job killer in this country, millions of americans have lost their jobs, forced into parttime work, lost their health insurance, lost their doctors and seeing premiums skyrocket. In the fall of 2013, millions of americans rose up against the disaster that was obamacare. I was proud to stand in lead that fight for 21 hours, standing on the senate floor. [applause] ted now, in a republican primary, everyone is going to say they oppose obamacare. The question to ask, once again, where were you . When the fight was being fought, where were you . Actually, i said everyone would say they oppose obamacare, but there is actually one candidate on the stage, actually technically speaking, not on that stage who does not say that. Listen, Donald Trumps position on health care is that he stylerts Bernie Sanders socialized medicine for everyone, with the government. He does not think obamacare goes far enough. Obamacarelary care, and then trump care, socialized medicine for every american. Washington will decide if you get the all you have to do is get approval from the government in charge of this country. Donald is entitled to have that. You might even call that view a new york value. [applause] as donald might observe, both he and Bernie Sanders are native new yorkers. Obamacare, care about there is a clear difference avenue opinion of
