In a relationship as big and complex as the one with the United States, there will be issues we need to discuss every now and then, but tremendous opportunities to Work Together for mutual benefit, for millions of people who work and live in ways that are interconnected across the 49th parallel. So i am happy to engage with the president on a broad range of issues quite regularly, and what we talked about over the past couple of days has been trade and emphasizing that nafta has been improved. A dozen times over the past 20 years. We are happy to sit down with how it can be improved now, how we create better opportunities for citizens, greater Economic Growth for countries, and continue to amplify the impact and the strength of the north american economy. It is certainly my preference that we be able to sit down and discuss in a firm but responsible and polite way the different ways we can move Forward Together to benefit our workers and of all canadians. In the renegotiation of nafta, what are you unwilling to take off the table, and how far are you willing to play games with trump . Justin trudeau first of all, the challenge of having 10 provinces with vastly different needs and perspectives isnt a downside for canada. It is a tremendous advantage. I think we know the different perspectives, different solutions, different approaches wrapped together in a similar value system, similar drive, success for families, for our neighbors for future generations, is one of the things that has made canada so incredibly successful over the past generation. Why the world is looking to canada as an example of good governance, reasonable responsible thinking, getting all the different balancing acts any country has to do with a broadly different perspective by its citizens wrapped around the same values, is a tremendous advantage. Anytime we engage in international negotiations, whether it is the finalizing of the free trade deal with europe we just are on the edge of moving forward with, there will always be a broad range of interests and concerns, and the job of the federal government is to work closely with all different jurisdictions to make sure we understand the opportunities and the challenges and create something that is going to be for the benefit, not just in the short term but in the long term of all canadians in every part of the country. And a disruption like canceling nafta even if it theoretically eventually might lead to Better Outcomes would cause a lot of short and mediumterm pain for an awful lot of families. And he like me got elected on a platform of helping people, helping the middle class, growing the economy in ways that bring along people that do not feel like they have had a fair shake, and that is not something either one of us would want. So we agreed we could sit down and get to work on looking at ways to improve nafta as it has been improved before in a thoughtful way that will be to the benefit of all of our countries. I am very happy with the cooperation we have had or the collaboration we have had strengthening law and order across the country but also to be able to count on our minister for public safety, who is a very proud saskatchewanian, and always looking at ways to make sure everyone is safe right across the country. The government here is looking at its options, but with the federal government consider a constitutional amendment to address that dilemma . Justin trudeau i am aware of this issue, and it comes down to fundamental rights. Everyone knows on the 35th anniversary this month of the canadian charter of rights and freedoms, i will be standing up for everyones rights, but at this point, that is an issue that is being seized at the provincial level. It may make its way to the federal level, at which point we will engage and look into it. The province seems to have it will enhance. And in french, so sorry. Justin trudeau as i was sitting down with the lewis family this morning, a lot of conversations we had. I have been an innovation and technology nerd, so i love seeing how things are going. It was explained to me how the new spreaders no, sorry, the new sprayers are linked into gps with nozzles that turn off when you are going over and overlap as you spray and as you lay down, which reduces the amount of product you need, prevents over spraying. But also saves on gas, saves on your fuel costs. So how we innovate, how we get more efficient, how we worked work towards a country and businesses that are less polluting and more efficient is something that every farmer gets. How you can improve our capacity to modernize, to innovate and be more efficient is something we know from generation to generation i was talking to don about that, all the changes we have seen over the years and over the decades have led to tremendously positive outcomes. It means more periods of moisture that are interfering with our ability to collect seeds, to harvest at the same time. You have to wait for the changing weather patterns to shift a little bit. That is why they were harvesting into midnovember last year on the lewis farm. Our climate is changing. Our world is changing. We have to adapt to it. We need to continue to be successful not just now but in future generations. But we also have to look at our responsibility to pollute less. And putting a price on Carbon Pollution is a way of encouraging and rewarding people who are innovating and reducing their Carbon Pollution outputs. I can understand the concerns people have, which is why we have ensured that any revenue collected from pricing carbon will remain in the province in which is generated. This is not about bringing money out of saskatchewan. It is rewarding people in saskatchewan who are innovating and getting more efficient. What it actually means is, as you innovate and make investments that are better in terms of fuel efficiency, productivity, you will be rewarded more than others who wont make those changes. So it is a marketbased solution that encourages more of what we want, which is savings and efficiencies, and less of what we dont want, which is pollution. This is something i know represents a change, represents a bit of a shift, but it is one i truly believe we need to do. Canadians understand that you cannot separate, especially not in a room like this, understand that we cannot separate what is good for the environment and what is good for the economy. We need to draw on them both together. That means looking at new ways of doing things in a responsible, thoughtful way. That is exactly what this leadership on Climate Change is all about. It is about respecting the provinces capacity to innovate, encouraging what saskatchewan is doing around carbon sequestration, which is tremendously promising technology, but also respecting the fact that people can make decisions that are better for the environment and the bottom line and enhance that advantage. That is what putting a price on carbon is all about. It is about building a Better Future both for the environment and and for the jobs that our kids and grandkids are going to have.
