Four states on the ballot tonight. Charlie mackenzie. Sandersgin with senator in miami. What does he need to do tonight with the delegates in ohio and florida . S an important is i night for him. There are a lot of delegates at stake. Needs to pick up the pace. Is important for a reason. Its critical for the Sanders Campaign. It seems tailormade for his message of economic populism. It is the place where the campaign would expect to get traction on trade policy or they thought his message would take root there. They thought he could break into the africanamerican middleclass vote. Bernie sanders thought he would do well in michigan. If he wants to make sure that the turnout is heavy. He lost mississippi. As you point out, the polls are still open in michigan. Early numbers indicate that Hillary Clinton is ahead. He has struggled in the polls in michigan. Butrailed by a wide margin that number seems to have closed in recent weeks, in part because he hit the state hard. He has been able to introduce himself to voters. One of the things his Campaign Says is the more he is to introduce himself to voters, the better he does. In a state like michigan, that is always a challenge, getting your candidate to familiarize candidacyth the appeared in michigan, turnout will be important for him. ,hat you saw in his Energy Particularly with young voters. Do not think it is an over surprise that donald trump would do well in mississippi. He has done well across the south. That is one of the most remarkable parts of the donald trump story in 2016. The depth and breadth of his coalition. It is not just that he is a regional candidate. The south. Ng in he has put up some robust margins. He won in places like massachusetts. That shows you the breadth of the kind of energy that he is creating for his campaign. Later tonight, idaho is a hard state to figure. Is not clear what the turnout will be because they vote earlier than they have before. There are questions about what the turnout will look like or who is poised to do well. Therendidates have been but it is a smaller state without a huge amount of delegates. A lot of times, campaigns will not fly to idaho given the size. Almost all of the candidates have spent some time there. The only one who can visit was donald trump. It will be interesting to see how he does. Then there is hawaii. The results will come in later for them. That until 1 00 in the morning on the east coast. That is a caucus state, in a different dynamic than a primary state. It is interesting to see who captures that state. Not a lot of the candidates have spent any time there. It has been friendly to the establishment candidates in the past. Guest what you are seeing is a couple things. That ad is an attempt to get at one of the weak spots he has, which is the idea that he is too crude to be president. He tends to underscore the fact that this isnt somebody whose behavior is president ial. They are trying to hit him on that spot. On a broader level, it shows that there are lots of groups. It is not just his opponents or rivals like marco rubio, it is super pacs, the candidates. We are beginning to see a sustained assault on donald trump that we have not seen throughout the campaign. He has had some tough media coverage. We have never seen a real stained carpet bombing like this. What you are beginning to see is some effective that in the polls. Polls are suggesting that he has hit a wall or his momentum has halted. That is probably a reflection of the fact that their advertisements like this as he moves closer on the path to the nomination. All of the states allocate until nextortunately week. Nobody can have a runaway victory. Well see next week is what is called a winner take all primary. If you win, that is the whole enchilada. Those will be critical states because of the impact of the rules. Host the Ted Cruz Campaign announced they have 10 field offices across the state, hoping they can ensure that marco loses florida. A lot of polls showing him down. Explain what is going on inside the Rubio Campaign. A lot of attention to a campaign yesterday. The urgency of that response, the ferocity really tells you the pressure that is on the Rubio Campaign as they going to florida. Florida is everything to his campaign. He will not go on if you cannot win florida. There is no path to the nomination if he cannot win his home state. Obviously, the stakes are high. They will be upset if somebody reports that they were thinking about hanging it up before his home state. What is important about the ted cruz strategy is that it is a smart play. Ted cruz doesnt necessarily need to win florida. What he needs to do is get a oneonone with donald trump. One great way to do that would be to knock marco rubio. As long as he takes a bite out of marco rubio, it is a victory. Or him even if he doesnt win host donald trump is in jupiter, florida. We should point out that there is trump wine. It goes to show, donald trump is more savvy than people give him credit for. In almost every aspect. Also, in terms of how he has played the media. Thathing you may notice is for many networks, they give him phone interviews. They do not give other candidates phone interviews. Trump has realized that his interviews are catnip. His appearances are big ratings. In every juncture of the campaign, he has recognized the value of his name recognition, his appearances, and has worked it spectacularly. He will also have the momentum from michigan kerry into a bunch of other rust belt states. It should give him traction in places like ohio, illinois, missouri. Here, bernieived is not a man who makes false promises. Researchesn idea, he. He researches every aspect of what it is he wants to do. He wants to know if it has been tried, if it failed, what made. T work he is not going to put it out there unless he thinks it will help. The second point i want to make is that having sat through many town meetings with bernie, there isbetween what he says, what he believes, and who he is. He is like, total integrity. He is seamless. He is what he believes. Do not underestimate this man. O not underestimate this man he is way smarter than most people think he is. For theank you from th call. Process isprimary how strong from on feels about Bernie Sanders. ,e saw from the vermont results he won the state in a landslide. That really speaks to the relationship he has with his constituency. It is a small state and he knows a whole lot of folks there. Hes been on the scene for a number of years as a mayor and a senator. There is a real bond there. You should have from the caller, but we saw in the primary as well. The caller spoke to what is the essence of sanders, his style and his approach and why am i getting traction. What you are hearing from folks in vermont and also the campaign trail, having been to a couple of sanders events, there is a sense that there is an authenticity to him that is missing from other politicians and that is why he came out of almost nowhere didnt have any kind of national profile. I think the reason he is getting success is largely because of that style and the way he connects with voters. Host john kasich in columbus, ohio tonight. Early numbers showing that he is second to donald trump. Forward . Is path onet it is a really narrow. He has now won a state yet. He has to last until march 15. His path is kind of narrow your tonight is an important step. Second place would be a good outcome for him. He would send a message about how he can run in a big midwestern state. They are obviously different states, but there are a lot of similarities in his message can connect, suggesting he can connect in ohio and illinois and other industrial states maybe pennsylvania. That is at the heart of the argument he has been making. That would be the first step toward winning ohio. Host let me put two scenarios on the table. One week from tonight, john kasich wins ohio, marco rubio wins florida, where does that put this race . Convention. Kered i do not see any alternative. You are going to see lots of candidates with lots of delegates. Trumpomes much harder for to get the delegates he needs for a majority to get the nomination. If you have four candidates with a number of delegates on their sites, there is less incentive for any them to drop out of the race. You will see, if john kasich wins ohio, more voters will flock to his cause same thing with marco rubio. It can a persuasive arguments as to why they need to stay in. The likely outcome is we get to the end of the primary process and nobody is able to achieve the number of delegates. Host another scenario, if donald trump wins florida and junk a sequence ohio. Florida, all of a sudden puts john kasich back on the map and he can make a plausible case for why he needs to stay in the race. You can easily see some establishment consolidation behind him. Our governor supported pushing the election date to march 15 to make a winner take all. They did not correct the ballot. We will have two sets of names atlarge candidates as well as congressional delegates. Guest i will be looking for whether the more conservative areas of ohio, southwest ohio vote more for trump and Donnell Donald trump and ted cruz or for marco rubio and john kasich. He is trying in many Establishment Republicans hope you will be able to defeat donald trump in his home state. Which would be a blow. That would hold him back. Host how strong is governor kasich and ohio . Guest we dont have a lot of public polls which is unfortunate. We have one that shows him five points down to donald trump. Nearly 80 of Ohio Republicans have positive views of case sick. K sick john kasich. That is why this week is so important. If he can show he can make a good showing, finished second in michigan. Defeat l and the debate last week. He could perhaps get momentum. He is running second in michigan. Where does that put him . Would i think ohioans view that positively. That would be a goose. Come find the poll that came out shows him moving into third above marco rubio. If he has another strong debate theres possibility of momentum. 31 toto doubt that was 26 . View himio republicans favorably. Only 26 might vote for him for president. We need to see more momentum out of him. Uest host do they have any organization . Or is this a race between hasek and donald trump . Guest i think it is going to come down to donald trump and john kasich. Some of the more conservative republicans who may be dont like john kasichs stance on Medicaid Expansion or common core would tend to vote for ted cruz. See that ted cruzs five points back of john kasich in that poll i mentioned to you. It is possible john kasich it be challenged by ted cruz but because ted cruz is challenging marco rubio so quickly we have not seen him in ohio. He has some organization here an rubio hasce none. Marco rubio is fighting in florida. Cruz, one of his spokespersons said battling in florida could hand the state to donald trump that we want to knock marco rubio out of the race. I dont expect we will see much of ted cruz in ohio. We are keeping an i on the Donald Trump Campaign in jupiter, florida where we will hear from donald trump shortly. Eyes on clevelands. You are the epicenter of politics this year between the how primary and Gop Convention in july. Guest that is right. Ohio likes to say we are the swing state. No republican has made it to the white house without winning ohio. That was a statement the gop. Ade by choosing cleveland we are going to make it to the white house. That is what Governor John Kasich has run on. I can probably carry ohio. I think it will still be close if he were the nominee. Contingentvery large of democratic voters that tend to vote more often in general elections then primaries or off year elections. One issue is that ohio state if not other universities are on spring vacation next week. That is an issue for senator sanders. They had been working to get people to vote early. They are concerned some young people who tend to vote for him over Hillary Clinton are going to be out of town and might not cast ballots. When we checked tonight or really paper tomorrow what is your byline going to stay . What is the story . John certainly assuming kasich continues on his track to get second in michigan, the story is he has picked up andntum in the last week appears likely to challenge donald trump. I think it is going to be close but he has he needed a boost to win and he as of now has got it. Really focusing on ohio. He might not be able to pull it off. Not all of them are on my side but we have some terrific people. It is very important. One of the things im most happy about is the turnout has been massive for every week. Whether it is South Carolina or any place, it started with New Hampshire and it really iowa. The matter where you go it is records per the single biggest story in politics today. What is happening at the booth. A tremendous amount of people are coming out to vote. Some states are getting one has 102 increase over four years ago. It is amazing. Probably more than 50. Millions and millions of people, whereas the democrats are down 3035 from what they were. We are up by 50 and even more than that. Millions of people. I think its the biggest tory in politics. I hope the republicans will embrace it. We have democrats coming over. There he importantly. We have independents coming over. They havent done that probably ever. With all of these people coming over were going to have Something Special. If i win and i get to go against hillary, polls are showing that i beat her. When you take advantage, we will take many people away from the democrats and many people away that normally go democrat as independents. We are seeing that. People come over here who have never voted republican or thought about it and they came and voted republican. I will tell you another group of people i have seen. I will be signing autographs and talking to people. Ive had many people say it was a beautiful thing to hear, mr. Trump, im 67 years old. I have never ever voted before. Ive never come close to voting before. This is the first time i will ever vote. That is so amazing. [applause] they do it with such spirit. Its great. I dont want to be tough but we are going to be fair. We are going have borders again. People are going to come into the country. They have to come and legally. Go on our website and you will see we have a real plan to fix the tax code. We have a real plan to roll back regulations. We have a real plan to save Social Security and medicare. We have a real plan to balance our budget. I have a real plan to fully utilize all of our energy resources. To we have a real plan repeal and replace obamacare once and for all. [applause] when i am president of the United States, youll have a real commander in chief for the first time in eight years. Our current commander in chief is a weak one. The front runner in this race does not even know what the Nuclear Triad is. He thinks it is a rock band. [laughter] sen. Rubio our next commanderinchief better be ready to lead from day number one. I say this to you with full confidence. I may not have lived as long as some of the people running, but no one running has more experience on Foreign Policy or National Security than i do. [applause] i served the state with the incredible presence of veterans in the military. In northeast florida, we understand the critical part of our country our military is. Today in a world growing increasingly dangerous, barack obama, with the help of some republicans, are getting the the military gutting u. S. Military. The world is crazy today. You have a sociopath, a lunatic, in north korea with nuclear weapons. The Chinese Government is trying to take over the south china sea. Ing have Vladimir Putin sow instability in the middle east. Iran is about to relieve sanctions relief because of Barack Obamas deal with the ayatollah. Radical terrorists are spreading all over the world. Isis has affiliates in over a dozen countries now. In the face of all of this danger, he is getting gutting our military. Because of these defense cuts, we will soon have the Smallest Army since the end of world war ii. We will have the Smallest Navy had had we have had in 100 years. We are on the verge of having the Smallest Air Force in our entire history print the average age of an airplane in the air force is 27 years on. It means the pilots are younger than the planes. This cannot continue. Here is what is so sad about it. It is unfair to our men and women in uniform. We are still asking them to go into harms way. But we are asking them to go in harms way with less equipment, less training, and less people alongside them. [applause] sen. Rubio we are still asking them to go in harms way while their paycheck and benefits are being cut. We have servicemen and women facing foreclosure, facing real economic hardship, and they are halfway around the world getting shot at. And it makes no sense. These defense cuts, this defense spending is not the reason for our national debt. And that is why i am president of the United States, we will undertake a reaganstyle rebuilding of the United States military. [applause] [crowd chanting marco] sen. Rubio we are going to have a real war on terror. One we have now is fake. Barack obama is releasing terrorists from guantanamo now on a weekly basis. 33 of them regain the battlefield against us. This has to stop. We dont want war. We want peace. But to achieve peace, you must sometimes defeat the enemies of peace. Likeal islamic jihadists isis are enemies of peace. When i am president , the best intelligence agencies in the world will i know. The finest military in the world will destroy them. Alive, captured them they will not have the right to remain silent. They are not coming to a courtroom in the United States for they are not coming to a jail in america. They are going to guantanamo. We are going to stand with our allies when i am president. This president has betrayed our allies like israel. He treats the ayatollah of iran with more respect than he gives the Prime Minister of israel. It is an outrage. The front runner in this race, donald trump, was asked if he would take sides between israel and the palestinians. And he said he would not. When i am to know president , we are taking sides. We will be on israels side. [applause] sen. Rubio i will prove it, as i have already in my time in the senate. I will proven on my first day in office. I am doneter repealing obamas unconstitutional executive orders, the next thing im going to do is cancel Barack Obamas deal with the ayatollah of iran. [applause] when i am president , we are going to take care of our veterans again. One out of the four calls that come into our offices are veterans. Veterans struggling with the v. A. , veterans being treated as if the v. A. Is doing them a favor instead of the other way around. My brother is a veteran. He lives in jacksonville, florida. He was in the army. He was the seventh special forces green beret. One day, he jump out of an airplane and knocked out his front teeth. Every few years, he has to have a dental claim filled. It is always a hassle. They asked him to prove it happened in the army. And he says it is the only time i jumped out of a plane. There is no accountability at the v. A. Even though i passed a law that gives the print that gives the president to fire people that do a better job, there is no account ability. Usa today had a headline that said calls to the v. A. Suicide hotline were going to voicemail. No one was fired for that. Three days ago, it was reported a veteran committed suicide and the day after he died they called him back. He had left a message on the voicemail. Still no has been fired. This is an outrage. There are good people at the v. A. , and we thank them for what they do. But there are people at the v. A. Not doing their job. When i am president , if you are not serving our veterans, you will lose your job at the v. A. You will be fired. When i am president of the United States, if you are happy at the v. A. , you keep going to the v. A. But when i am president , our veterans will be able to take v. A. V8 benefits benefits to any doctor they want to see. Many of our veterans do not stop serving us when they come home. You go to any Fire Department in america, and a Police Station in Sheriffs Department in america, and you will find a disproportionate number of veterans. I was required of this week ago. A week ago sunday, i was in virginia. The news was about three Police Officers that had been shot. This is happening far too often in america. One of those three officers died. She was a marine reservist, a veteran on her first day on the job. I think it is always appropriate to take a money to thank our firefighters, Police Officers, sheriffs deputies for everything they do for us. [applause] sen. Rubio when i am president , you will have a president that will never be ashamed to defend the traditional values that shaped our nation. You cant have a strong country without strong people. Cant have strong people without strong values. You cannot have strong values without Strong Families. The job of having Strong Families belongs to us. The most important job i will ever have is to be a has been to my wife and a father to my toldren to be a husband my wife and a father to my children. [applause] sen. Rubio that we should never have Government Policies that hurt families. We have a tax code that punishes marriage. That will end when i am president. We have safety net programs that have become a way of life. A safety net and welfare was not supposed to be a way of life. That was to help people with a hand up and not a handout. We will change that. [applause] sen. Rubio that we have safety net programs that discourage marriage. And we have a president and justice apartment that is not defending our Faith Community from discrimination. That will change could we cannot have strong people without strong values. You will not have strong values without a Strong Community to support the family. The family. Ort we will support the Faith Community. And you will have a president and will never be ashamed of our traditional values and afraid to say that all human life is worthy of the protection of our laws. [applause] as you can see, we have a lot of work to do because barack obama is done a lot of damage to america. We cant change this country. We cant embrace a Better Future if Hillary Clinton is elected president of the United States. To begin with, she would follow all of the obama agenda. If we lose this election Hillary Clinton, obamacare is permanent. All those unconstitutional executive orders are permanent. The next supreme justice will be a liberal. If we lose this election, the consequences are generally she will generational. Cannot afford to nominate someone who is not a conservative who can win. I know that i can win. The democrats know that i will win. More thaninton tax me any other republican because she does not want to run against me. Againstnnot wait to run Hillary Clinton. [applause] sen. Rubio because Hillary Clinton is unqualified to be president of the United States. She put classified information on her private server. And for that, she is now under f. B. I. Investigation. Hillary clinton is disqualified from being commanderinchief because she lied the families of the victims of benghazi. Familieso lies to the of americans who have lost their lives in the service of our country can never be the commander in chief of the United States of america [applause] this country desperately needs to return to the principles of our conservative movement. We must stop and remind ourselves of what conservativism truly is. With the passing of nancy reagan two days ago, it was a moment to pause your neighbor what happened 36 years ago with the election of Ronald Reagan. Definedeagan conservativism for an entire generation. It is not a coincidence there are so many people my age who are conservatives leading this country. Look at how many upandcoming conservative leaders there are in america. Who is the upandcoming young liberal leader . Bernie sanders. [laughter] sen. Rubio because Ronald Reagan defined conservativism. Conservativism was about adhering to the constitution, which limited the power of the federal government. Not because we dont care, but because we do care. Because we understand more often than not, when the federal government gets involved in things is not supposed to be involved in, it makes it worse. Not better. Conservativism is about Free Enterprise, a free economy where people are rewarded on their merit, work, skill. Not on their connections. Not on the family name. Not on their access to power or ability to influence government. Conservativism is about a Strong National defense because history has taught us weakness is the enemy of peace. Weakness invites war and miscalculation. Strength is the best way to achieve peace. Conservativism is about traditional values that have served mankind for thousands of years. That is what conservativism is about. It has never been about anger. Conservativism has never been about fear. You have to write the angry. Overnment has failed you your parties have failed you. Your leaders have failed you. The media has failed you. Our universities and colleges have failed us. Except for the university of florida. [laughter] [applause] thatrubio i had to drop in. Friendly territory, i hope. Go, gators. I need everybodys vote. I cannot lose any votes. You know how i feel. All of our institutions have failed us. And people are frustrated. You can use that anger to motivate you to take action. But dont let anger define us. We have never been an angry people. We have always been an optimistic people, realistic about our challenges, but optimistic about our future. Wenot let the circumstances face divide us against each other, for we are all still american, even if we disagree about certain things. We share a common destiny. We cannot have a great nation if we leave anyone behind. But we must return to these principles of conservativism, and we must apply them to the challenges of our time. Conservativism is about the principles i outlined. It is also about real ideas. It is not enough to stand up here and say we are going to make America Great again. You deserve to know how. He deserve to know how you are going to do that. [applause] it is if you dont know the how, how do you hold anyone accountable . How do you really know what you are getting . Have you really know where we will wind up . We have to nominate and elect a conservative that can unite his party. I told you how important it is that we defeat Hillary Clinton. We are not going to defeat her if we nominate someone that over 3 of our party rejects and 11 of our party refuses to vote for. I can unite his party. It is not just about you 19 the party could we have to grow it. We have to take our conservativism to people not voting for us now and convince them conservativism is right for them. I know i can do that because i have done it my whole life. I will take conservativism two people who struggle to live a check to paycheck. I can do that because i grew up paycheck to paycheck. Because i have lived paycheck to paycheck. I will take conservative is a two Young Americans struggling under student loan debt
