The bible says thou shalt not covet, and you have made me violate the laws today. [laughter] [applause] i dont get upset with people who sing well. I wish however they did not make it look so easy. Making yourlk about voice heard in heaven. As has already been stated, our lawmakers get together each week for a Prayer Breakfast. One of the things that really inspires me about the Prayer Breakfast is the closing prayer. When they stand and join hands and they prayed together. To see republican, democrat, independents praying together, i find myself thinking where are the cspan cameras when you need them . One senator observed, as some of you may have heard, it is difficult to pray like that and then leave the room and go to the Upper Chamber and figuratively stab one of your colleagues in the back. The senator quickly added, it is not impossible. But it is difficult. [laughter] know the nextay day in one of the hideaways senators from both sides of the aisle need for a bible study. The bible study begins and ends with a prayer both sides of the aisle praying with and for one some of you may not note the chiefs of staff get together for a bible study that begins and ends with a prayer. Some of you may not know that every friday more than 100 staffers, Capitol Police , janitors, waiters, waitresses come together for a bible study. That bible study begins and ends with a prayer. Paul had it right in philippians 4 22, there are saints in caesars household. I am encouraged by the robust spirituality of so many who work on capitol hill. We have senators who are under the radar but ordained ministers. I will not out any of them at right at this time. We also have senators who se spirituality dwarfs my own. So we need to come together and , realize that when we pray, we are making our voice, our voices heard in heaven. I believe they gather because of that. We work at making our voices heard on earth. We march, we lift placards we , are involved in social media, we blog, weve got linkedin, google, youtube, and all the ways that we try to make our voices heard on earth. But when i see a group of people of faith of this size, i get an adrenaline rush. Because i know that where two or three are gathered together in gods name, he is there in the midst. So what happens when we get this , many people gathered together in his name . I feel the palpable presence of god in this place. And far more important than letting our voices be heard on earth is the opportunity to make our voices heard in heaven. I know there are those who say that the efficacy of prayer does not go beyond the interior life of the interceptor. Prayer does not change anything. But i agree with tennyson that more things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of. I also believe that when we pray, humanity cooperates with divinity. My friends, there are things we will never get except by request only. There are blessings that hang on silken cords that we will never receive except by request only. James 4 2 says, you have not because you ask not. In mark 6, jesus went to his hometown. Jesus had already said a prophet has honor everywhere except in his hometown. He got there in the people were skeptical. They said, isnt this the carpenters son . Where did he get this wisdom . And those socalled mighty works . One of the most startling bible verses i know, mark 6 6 say, and jesus could not do many mighty works there, his hometown, because of their unbelief. Not would not. Could not do many mighty works because of their unbelief. In matthew 17, the disciples made an abortive attempt to cast out a demon from a boy. They were unsuccessful. When they got jesus privately, got him somewhere privately they asked him why couldnt we cast , out the demons . Jesus said in matthew 17 20, because of your unbelief. Because if you had faith the size of the grain of a mustard seed, you would be able, praise god, to move mountains. My friends, when we make our voices heard in heaven, it makes a palpable difference. How do we do it . Mr. President , you may be familiar with this scripture because it was read at your inauguration. It is so spot on. I timothy 2 14, new living translation, i urge you, to pray for all people. Ask god to help them. We need to pray for everyone, all people, whether they read the tao or the holy koran, we need to pray for all people. Hallelujah to the lamb of god. [applause] ask god to help them. Intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases god, our savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. Praise god. What a word. For those who want to make their voices heard in heaven. So how do we do this . First of all, we pray from a sense of need. I used to have about 45 seconds worth of prayer material until i became a parent. My son is here today. Then you got plenty of prayer material. Praise god. You pray out of a sense of need. My friends, god wants us to pray when we need him. Even as a parent wants to be with a child who needs him or her. The bible says, call upon me in the day of trouble and i will deliver you. In philippians 4 67, have no anxiety about anything but pray about everything with thanksgiving. We pray out of a sense of need. Once an International Belts seller bestseller bruce , wilkinsons book, what a wonderful story. I chronicles 4 910, this fellow who prayed a powerful prayer. He was more honorable than his brothers. And his mother named him because she said, i bore him with sorrow. Imagine having your given name sorrow. Imagine being introduced. Senator, i would like you to meet our chaplain sorrowful black. Imagine the pushback you would get. Ladies and gentlemen, our speaker, sorrowful black. Called upon the sovereign god out of a sense of need. He said i love this prayer oh, that you would bless me indeed because every blessing is not a blessing indeed. In south carolina, where my mother came from and grew up they used to talk about a sho , nuff blessing. That is a blessing indeed. I hope the translators will not have a problem with that. We will help you out. Jabez says i want you to enlarge my territory. You have not because you asked not. Then i love it. To keep i want you your hand on me. My friends just to have gods , hand on us. We ought to pray that gods hand will be on our president. I was talking with the Vice President backstage and i said im praying that the hand of god will be on you. Ezekiel 37 says, the hand of the lord was upon me. We need people who govern who have the hand of god on them. [applause] and then he said, i want you to keep me from evil that it will not grieve me. My friends god is no respecter , of person. 1 34, if he did it for jabez, he will do it for you. He will do it for me. Pray with intimacy. Jesus said to his disciples in john 15 16, i no longer call you servants. I call you my friends. God wants a relationship with us. Jesus said in his wonderful intercessory prayer in john he lifted his eyes to heaven and said, father, the hour has come. Glorify your son that your son might also glorify you. Toyou have given him power get to as many as would receive him eternal life. 17, this is life eternal. That they might know you. And jesus christ, whom you have sent. My oldest son is in the audience. One of my pet peeves is he calls and says, hello dad, this is barry. Really . Ive got caller id and he has identified himself. If i get a call that says hello darling, i should not respond, who is this . God once and intimacy with us. In my tradition we sing a hymn i love. I come to the garden alone. Someone knows this hymn. While the dew is still on the roses. The son of god discloses. And he walks with me. And he talks with me. And he tells me barry, you belong to me. We carryoy we share as there, none other has ever known. Pray with intimacy. Like hannah when she wanted that baby. She prayed with such specificity and intimacy and such fervency. Eli the priest thought she was in the breed. We need was inebriated. Pray for those who govern. Praise the lord. Pray for those who govern. Pray this way for kings and for all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. Prayed for months during the president ial election, the president ial primary. Into the hands delivered him into the hands of nebuchadnezzar. Hed thee guy who said furnace seven times hotter than it is right now. God delivered him into the hands of nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar had a dream. He could not remember the dream. He said, since you wise men cant remember the dream, i tell you what im going to do. I am going to kill you and the members of your family and make your homes dung hills. Daniel and his friends stepped forward. You remember daniel, they got together. Thats right. There are africanamericans. Some of you will get that on the way home. I just want to make here you are still with me. They prayed for keying nebuchadnezzar king 27 chadnezzar, the jeremiah 6, god calls nebuchadnezzar my servant nebuchadnezzar. The heart of the king is in gods hand, and he turns it anyway he desires. He gave pharaoh a dream of fat cows and thein cows in order to make egypt the breadbasket of the world. Dana walked up to nebuchadnezzar and said we have been praying for you. Go gaved us what you dreamed in the interpretation of the dream. We must pray for those who govern. And make our voices heard in heaven. I grew up in freddie grays neighborhood. You are member that you remember that. My mother had a fourthgrade education. The daughter of the sharecropper. An activity that martin king called a new form of slavery covered up with certain niceties of complexity. I grew up about 30 miles from washington, d. C. Jude says he is able to keep me without stumbling and slipping and present me without fault, without damage before the presence of his glory, with delight,able ecstatic triumph and joy and exultation. John said i was in the spirit on the lords day. I saw him high and lifted up. He is alpha, omega. He is i kept meeting next man and my hope does not rest est in the alliances that we build. I wondered if i am ever going to be in the presence of or set eyes on the guy that wrote this book. That worked out. [laughter] i started little show called survivor. It took the country by storm after of few years i was producing the finale. I would take it into a jungle. New york city. I needed a great backdrop, the manhattans online skyline. Donald trump. Skating rink, t rumps, with the background of the manhattan skyline. We made a deal with mr. Trump and built 5000 bleachers in the central park to do this finale of survivor. Ive still never met mr. Trump i had still never met mr. Trump. I got the crowd going with life tv. Row with mr. Front donald trump. My dream had come a true. Got me goinge deal and i am in the presence of the man himself, donald trump. The show went off great and afterwards, he waited behind and found me, shook my hand, gave me his private Office Number and said i like you. Call me, lets do something sunday. Some day. Six months later i am in the amazon making survivor number six. Everything surrounding you can kill you. Alligators, the ants, the plants. I made a Satellite Phone call home to my son, he said you have been gone a long time. I forgot what you look like. Job inzed i had to get a an american city. What can i do after survivor . A show that can inspire about business. A Job Interview but not with made up resumes, with real tasks. I need is someone really dynamic to be the headliner and run this show. Someone who is not afraid. A real winner. [laughter] he gave me his number. I wasnt really sure how i was going to make the show and i thought i will go to new york, be there for 10 days, get my head straight. I will go see him. In the car from jfk i called the number expecting to set an appointment. I got through his assistant at the time and she put me straight through. All i wanted was an appointment. I am now speaking to donald trump. I thought about hanging the phone up. [laughter] i knew he knew it was me. I said i was just calling for an appointment to see you. About doing a show. I have a great idea. Where are you . On the way from jfk. The here and half an hour you know where trump tower is i will be waiting. I thought of calling back and saying i am not ready. It. Id i have got to go for he said a lot of people pitch me reality show ideas as silly. They want to see me in my apartment. Nothing smart about that. Thisidea, the apprentice, could be good to inspire Young Americans to get into business and see how business really works. I love this. I want to do this. Go next door, get on the phone with my agent. I said agent . Ule real estate mogul arent you a real estate mogul . I have an agent. I call the agent full of energy and he said you are kidding . You went and saw my client mr. Trump without my permission . I wasnt going to up, i was going to set an appointment. He said you cant do that and you have to tell you the idea. I said he just said yes. He said i dont care. I went through the whole idea again on the telephone. The one thing mr. Trump always said is try to always do things face to face. And he said i hated. It will never work. It will not work and i will tell mr. Trump he will not do the apprentice. I was so dejected. I walked back in and he said came in\ come in. I said i have bad news. The agent said he hated the idea. He said he is not going to allow you to make it. Mr. Trump stood up from behind around and said did i not give you my word . Did i not say who making this wea r we are making this . We are making a deal right now, you and me. Get in touch with my agent and tell him that you are fired. [laughter] [applause] that began 14 years of a relationship, building a highly successful Global Television franchise. A relationship where we have never had a single bad word between us. Everything in business, we deal with face to face. No lawyers, no accountants. Deal with it straightforwardly. Our soldiers understand that what matters is not party or ideology or creed but the bonds of loyalty that link is all together as one. America is a nation of believers. Remember area [applause] religion is a sacred right. But it is a righthand threat all around us. The world is under serious, serious threat. In so many different ways. I have never seen it so much and so openly as to since i took the position of president. The world is in trouble. We will straighten it out. That is what i do. I fix things. We will straighten it out. Believe me. When you hear about the phone calls i am having, dont worry about it. Just dont worry about it. We have to be tough. It is time we get a little tough. We are taking advantage of by every nation in the world. It is not going to happen anymore. It is not going to happen anymore. We are seeing unimaginable violence carried out in the name of religion, acts of wanton slaughtering against religious minorities. Horrors on a scale that the fight description. Description. Terrorism must be stopped and will be stopped. It may not be pretty for a little while, it will be stopped. [applause] by the way, general, as you know james mattis. There is a reason they call him mad dog mattis. Battle. St a always wins them fast. Our new secretary of defense. He is right now in south korea, going to japan. Going to some other spots. Ive gotten to know him really well. He is the real deal. We have somebody who was the real deal working for us and that is what we need. You watch. You just watch. Things will be different. Muslimsseen peaceloving ndes, victimized, murder, a oppressed by isis killers. Threats of extermination against the jewish people. Genociden of isis and christians where they cut off heads. Not since the middle ages have we seen that. We have not seen that. The cutting off of christians h. They drown people in steel cages. Have not seen this. Have not seen this. Really has seen this. For many many years. All nations have a moral obligation to speak out against such violence. All nations have a duty to Work Together to confront it and confronted viciously if we have to. I want to express clearly today that mymerican People Administration will do everything in its power to defend and protect religious liberty in our land. Remain aust forever Tolerant Society where all faiths are respected and all of our citizens can feel safe and secure. We have to feel safe and secure. In recent days we have begun to take necessary action to achieve that goal. Our nation has the most generous immigration system in the world. Wouldare those that exploit that generosity to undermine the values we hold so dear. We need security. There are those who would seek to enter our country for the purpose of spreading violence or oppressing other people based upon their faith or their lifestyle. Not right. A beachhead ofow intolerance to spread in our nation. You look all over the world and see what is happening. In the coming days we will develop a system to help ensure that those admitted into our country fully embrace the values of religious and personal liberty and they reject any oppression and discrimination. We want people to come into the nation but we want people to love us. To love our values. Us. To hit us hate we will be a safe country. We will be a free country. Where all a country citizens can practice their beliefs without fear, hostility, or fear of violence. America will flourish as long as our liberty and in particular our religious liberty is allowed to flourish. [applause] america will succeed as long as our most horrible liberal vulnerable citizens have a half to success. Success. O america will thrive if we have faith in each other and faith in god. [applause] god has inspired men and women to sacrifice for to deploy overseas and lock our arms as home to ensure equal rights for every man, woman, and child in our land. It is that which sent the pilgrims across the ocean. The pioneers across the plains and the young people across america to chase their dreams. They are chasing their dreams. We are going to bring those dreams back to as long as we have god we are never ever alone. Whether it is the soldier on the night watch or the singleparent on the night shift, god will always give us solace and strength and comfort. And toed to carry on keep carrying on. From us in washington, we must never stop asking god for the wisdom to serve the public according to his will. [applause] thank you.
