Establishment, for lack of a better term. It is interesting issue. The Bernie Sanders folks might want to think on whether you want to get rid of superdelegates after watching what happens to the Republican Party. You have a candidate like donald trump who took off and many believe is not in the best interest of the party. He is in the best interest of donald trump. If you had superdelegates in that party, maybe it would have changed things, but on the other hand, it is not very democratic, with a small d. I think it is a lingering issue for the left. Host you have been doing this political beat for quite a while. About theou feel enthusiasm for the republicans and the democrats in cleveland . There stilllicans have deep divisions, as you can see by ted cruz going on stage urging people to vote their consciences, and getting jeered off and booed. Reminiscent of the cow palace in San Francisco and Barry Goldwater when nelson cking what heas kno saw as the extremism of th goldwater forcese. Theirere building up enthusiasm by demonizing Hillary Clinton and it seemed to be working. People were eager to go into battle and folks who had been were findingtrump rationalizations and reasons to get on board. The big moments like when c ruz knifed trump in the back. Tom fitzgerald at the Philadelphia Inquirer is our guest. Lets begin that call disappeared, sorry about that, tom fitzgerald. What time does Hillary Clinton get here and tim kaine . Hillary clinton arrives tomorrow. I dont know when tim will arrive. Do you know what events you will be participating in . Before her big moment . I dont. Im sorry. Were going to speak with former governor edward dell later, how influential was he in bringing the convention here . He was a big force in getting the convention here. He has so much talent and experience as a fundraiser. The real thing that clinched it for philadelphia as i understand it is parking less. Center and the other sports facilities down provide thenot only natural security perimeter, but you can build the tent city that the media work in. And the planners told me that this was the deal. That their eyes lit up. When they were touring the various cities its convenient to have it away from the center city. It is. Pa convention looked kind of like the green zone in kabul. I dont mean to make light of afghanistan, but downtime was all caught up with security. We dont have that here because it is isolated. Bobby in fitzgerald, georgia. You are on the air. Aller i just want to thank you for taking my call. Can you hear me . Host go ahead, we are listening. Guest i just want to say the Philadelphia Inquirer guy you have on, he says that the republicans maybe wish that they had superdelegates, as an independent, i think people in the republican side spoke. The people for bernie have a right to be upset. What he said is typical of the media and that is the biggest problem we have in america today. Her to say but hillary and email scandal like the new cycle has moved on ticket doesnt matter. It matters. The whole thing today shows that the Democratic Party is all about. If nixon would have been a democrat he probably would not have had to resign because they would have let him go. The bottom line is, i know who i under oneo vote for essay to say right now because i want to stay wide open, but now we have people like this guy in the media going into the convention and say all of this because she is a woman they will downplay what you did to our National Security and all of this stuff and they will glorify her. That is what democrats do. Any tom fitzgerald, reaction . Wouldhink Hillary Clinton disagree that the media have been covering up for her. The email scandal itself came to light because they wanted access to these emails and that kicked off this investigation. Terriblehas paid a price. 10 voters say in they do not trust the former secretary. I understand where bobby from georgia is coming from but i she that she doesnt has not skated away from that. Like you for taking my call. Guest tomth your fitzgerald and that we should keep superdelegates, simply because of what happened with the republicans. Nobody is happy with their choice. Emotion. Te with i think they do get the wrong nominee and i believe we should keep superdelegates but i believe we should get rid of caucuses. That is my comment. Host are you a supporter of Hillary Clinton . Caller i believe that Hillary Clinton is treated unfairly and i think if this were a republican, with their emails, it would have blown over a long time ago. I think there is a double standard and how the media and people treat democrats versus republicans. Guest you make a good point about superdelegates. The superdelegate is almost like the system drawn up here. You have the senate to be the saucer that cools the houses actions. That seems positive. System is an interesting reason. There are people here who wish to have open primaries and get rid of caucuses so that it is more democratic. Go,nt know how far it will there are a lot of people who agree with you. Tom fitzgerald, lets hear from conrad who lives here in philadelphia on the republican line. Covering the Hillary Clinton email scandal in a humorous way, that we are taking our expose thes week to coverup of hillarys lies very seriously. We are entering town with the wind at our backs. Poll showed 75 of people had a favorable response at Donald Trumps nomination. Where to go over a few things about the space we are in. Famous for boxing and mixed martial arts. You can see the banners around honoring the memory of the old warhorses that have stepped into the ring here. There is a wrestling championship mural in the mens restroom. We can escort others in there if they want to see it. The historyd bodies of philadelphia as a gritty town filled with people who never give up. Concerning the infighting we have seen in the Democratic Party in the last 24 hours, it is a fitting place to begin our operation. The American People have had enough of the cronyism and corruption of Hillary Clinton. Some of the individuals speaking will be senators rick santorum, congressman marsha blackburn, governor jim gilmore, and other staff from the rnc. We will be doing Rapid Response efforts, digital messaging to counteract the noise down the street. Our messages will correspond with each of the democratic themes. When has some games set up that i hope you have a chance to see on the way in. There is a court whole game, a connect four game, a prize wheel. Each of them is rigged. Hillary wins every time. We have a bag that we have for you which is hillarys luggage. On the back to list all the scandals over the last 30 years she has been involved in. We want to make sure you have a tshirt that exhibits all of it, this to wipe your server clean. A little squeeze toy for your frustration with the logistical problems and it notes that hillary is fighting for herself. You have a pair of sunglasses because she is shady. Pen in caseedaction some emails get out that you dont want. And some loaded dice. As you can guess, hillary wins every time. I hope you grab one of those on the way out. Just a few notes about tonight. You will hear from chairman Reince Priebus in a second and on white americans have had enough of Hillary Clinton and why she represents the status quo. Campaign chair Paul Manafort will make a few remarks. Immediately following the last question, we go off the record and nine for you to a brief reception here. Please welcome Reince Priebus. Priebus welcome to the rnc at the dnc kickoff. I want to make a quick comment about the days developments at the dnc. I know firsthand how hard it is being the chair of a national party, but when you rig a system and spread emails around with each other and senior staff in that manner, this outcome is inevitable. Obviously, the end has come and i dont think there was any other outcome that was foreseeable. These events show what an appeal climbing the democrats were facing and unifying their party, starting off the week by unifying the Party Chairman over longstanding bitterness between party factions. There is no way to keep something together. Unanimityrty has 100 but it is how you lead and bring things together through times that are not the easiest. Im not just talking about Debbie Wasserman schultzs resignation but the delegates upset about the selection of tim kaine and will never support Hillary Clinton. The outcome proves the system was in fact rigged. We are here to give a voice to americans who have had enough of the clintons cronyism and corruption. Our mission is to expose the long and scandalous history of hillary and bill clinton right here in the democrats on backyard. Hillary clinton has put personal ambition ahead of the good of the country time and time again. Its not what americans want or can afford in the next president. There was a secret server email which jeopardize National Security, but she can cover up her shady business dealings. Despite sending and receiving classified email messages, the obama admin efficient gave her a get out of jail free card. They anointed her, and her failed legacy, at the cost of the National Secrets that are very precious, but made sure she was the democrat nominee. Americans are hurting after eight years of a failed obama agenda. They are concerned about good jobs, good health care, good schools, and the right to feel safe from terrorism in their own country. They have had enough of the clintons excuses, enough of the coverups, the corrupt argans. They had corrupt bargains have shown that have had enough. Her choice of tim kaine has shown her true colors. She is doubling down on a career as a democrat insider. After she spent last week pandering to the grassroots with Bernie Sanders, her choice of tim kaine as a running mate was the furthest thing from an olive for the democrats who are fed up with a system that does not work for them. Years taking advantage of their own handouts. Tim kaine spent years abandoning his core and moving to the left to get himself a Vice President ial spot. It only makes sense, two opportunities like Hillary Clinton and tim kaine would pair agendaxtend the obama which has made our country less prosperous, less afe, an less safe, and less free. The choice is clear. The Republican Party is the only party giving a voice to the grassroots. Donald trump has brought millions to Republican Party because he wants to give a voice to those were sick of such a sick of special interests rnc. Ng for a voice in the he will bring a nononsense leadership style to the nations capital. We will win this election and put America First once and for all. I would like to call upon Paul Manafort, the Campaign Chairman and manager and all of the above for donald trump, who will be the next president of the united states. Thank you. [applause] manafort i would like to spend a minute talking about the state of election. Now that the democrats have selected the ticket will talk about how we plan on prosecuting the election. We are priest with this election of tim kaine by Hillary Clinton because the choice becomes even more clear as a result. Is clintonkaine ticket composed of people who have been a part of government for most of their lives. Neither have ever worked in the private sector, neither knows how to create jobs. Both are bigtime spenders, bigtime taxers, and people who are willing to promise anything to get elected and have a bad track record in terms of delivering performance. ,ou have governor tim kaine when he was in office tried to raise taxes 4 billion in his four years. Is only reason he didnt because there was Republican Legislature keeping him from doing so. He had a commitment to make a thesportation system in state of virginia. He vows to change it. Unemployment went up in the state from 2. 3 to over 7 . All of his promises and it up being unfulfilled. You look at mike pence, he reduced taxes every year that he was in office, he balanced the budget, he kept a rainy day reserve fund, pay cut regulations, and at the same time, he invested in infrastructure, invested in education, and health care systems. Spot, theber two contrast couldnt be more clear. Lary clinton is the eptimo epitome of the establishment. Donald trump is the outsider, committed to change. The point i made this morning is, the speech was not dark, it was optimistic. The difference between that speech and the 20 giving cleveland and what you will hear in philadelphia, donald trump told the truth. To theained clearly American People that he wasnt going to sugarcoat it or pretend things are fine. He hears what people say on the campaign trail and understands their angst, at some people are working two jobs or three jobs and cannot pay their bills. He understands the fear they have and walking the streets of their neighborhoods and he understands the fear that exists as far as the threat of terrorism to those communities. As president obama the other day said it is a different america than the one he knows and that is precisely the problem. Obama has in living in a bubble and doesnt understand what is going on in the united states. Primary contributors to the problems we are facing today. We aree prospect confident that as we go forward in the election that we will be able to make the case that we are the change. With that, i think we will open it up to questions. Conclude, i want to make sure, there are a couple other trump surrogates here, they will stay around afterward mr. Scher some of the other surrogates afterward. Some of the other surrogates have come in tonight. First question. How aggressively do you intend to attack bill clinton and can you give us a sense of what you planned to do . Manafort bill clinton has been a primary influence on Hillary Clinton. He signed the nafta bill. It something that has been a hallmark of mr. Trumps campaign. We will talk about that as well. There is some concern that russia is behind some of these leaked emails. Does that concern you . Mr. Manafort we dont know who is behind the leaks. I know that the leaks of this week put the dnc at risk. Mrs. He potential leaks of clintons server unprotected in her home created a greater risk than what the dnc leaked. It reinforces the case that has been made about how justice wasnt done. You can be certain you can be sure if they were able to hack the dnc, though state secrets are sitting somewhere if not many places around the world. [inaudible] mr. Manafort as mr. Trump would say, were not going to tell you that, but we have taken precautions to protect our server. What the other question, you saw today or yesterday in these email leaks verifies something that we already knew. Dont sit here believing that the dnc was impartial. We knew they werent in the whatls just illustrated could be perfectly crafted in any litigation what we already knew. The dnc with tipping the scale the entire time for Hillary Clinton. It was evidenced by the fact that the debates there were four of them, and the day before the super bowl, for the day after christmas. You know the point. We have talked about this ad nausea. That is the first piece. It was a dramatic illustration of what we knew the truth was anyway. As far as your question, we take every precaution that you can imagine in order to secure our email servers and our data at the rnc. You didnt see any articles about rnc data. You didnt see any articles about leaked emails. We would be concerned about any Foreign Government that would be able to break into the email servers. You dont say stupid things on email either and send it around among staffers. You use your head. Not only were they tipping their scales, but they were dumb enough to do things like that which is not smart. What did you think about your nominee peddling a story from the National Inquirer about raphael cruz being involved in the assassination of jfk . Mr. Manafort there is some rhetorical things that people have debated about donald trump, and that can be debated. But i would say, he has a right to talk about whatever he wants to talk about. I dont think he was ever saying that this was some sort of factual piece of information. This is something he referred to. He talked about it. He has got off of it. As far as im concerned, we can move on. Why discuss it in the first place . He mentioned it in passing and everyone glommed onto it and it became a controversy. That is one rhetorical issue that you can debate until the cows come home. It doesnt identify or to find the donald trump campaign. It was raised by senator cruz on friday morning after the convention, it wasnt raised by mr. Trump and he was responding to that. I was commenting on senator zs [inaudible] mr. Manafort they are pretty desperate, pretty quickly. It is far reach. To lead their convention with that tells me that they really are trying to move away from what the issues will be in this campaign. It is absurd. [inaudible] mr. Trumps immigration policy is well known. We need to secure our borders. He has talked about the importance of knowing who is coming into our country. He thinks we have to suspend untilon in order to we can create a system where we can that properly people coming in here so we know who they are and what they believe in. [inaudible] i know absolutely nothing mr. Manafort i know absolutely nothing about the facts of the case. The person that i knew is not that that accusation has been made of. Thank you very much. We are off the record. I hope you stick around. Every day at 1 00. Enjoy. Cspan, created by americas Cable Television companies, our live coverage of every minute of the republican and Democratic National conventions is brought to you as a Public Service by your cable or satellite provider.
