Country to protect all of the other freedoms that we enjoy. [applause] this is a time where conservatives need to focus on how we will lead america. Not just how we will lead each other. Too much is at stake. The future of our country, the future for our children and grandchildren is far too important for us to spend our time fighting with each other with the real battle is not a fight against liberals or democrats, it is a fight for the soul and future of this great republic. This is a fight for which all of us must know we have to engage. We must do it now. If this one thing i know, my time is up. Thank you and god bless you. [applause] here is a look live at the conference, underway in washington, d. C. Theyre wrapping up a panel on latin american government. We will join the group live when Newt Gingrich takes the podium. He will be introduced by his wife. Want to let you know the results from the straw poll. Rand paul came out on top, followed by texas senator ted cruz. 10 for third place with were ben carson, marco rubio, and chris christie. Sarah palin and bobby jindal did not remain on the board. They will be more voting today and the results released this afternoon. While we wait for Newt Gingrich going topac, were look at kevin brady from the newsmakers interview this weekend, about the future of leadership. He is termnow that limited as the chairman of the ways and means committee. You serve on the committee. You are next in line to chair the committee. Of the houseyan Budget Committee has obviously expressed interest in taking over ways and means. You have also expressed interest and have said that when the time is right, you will make a case that you should be chairing the committee. When is the time right . How intense would you expect that campaign to be . Well, paul ryan is a true friend. He is a good leader. We have been working our way up together for many years. We both have ideas on where we can go on tax reform and how we face Social Security and medicare. The time is not quite rate. We are both focused on helping advance this tax reform discussion, which i think is critical. I am trying to find a permanent solution to how we reimburse medicare. I feel it i am qualified and prepared to leave the committee. At the right time, i will make that case to my colleagues. Now,ur gut feeling right as of today, is Speaker Boehner coming back for another term . You know, i honestly do not know. The speaker will make that decision. Anddo know is that he are were leadership are working hard to advance our agenda. Is a tough job, frankly, i would not want it. It is important for the remainder of the year, heading into the election with moment on we really have work to do. Are you prepared to fight for mr. Boehner to remain a speaker . Would you help with that effort . Has been aboehner very strong later. He has worked very hard for our conference. I will leave that decision to him. I trust his judgment. New look at some of our newsmakers program. We will show that in antiready this weekend. Here, we are joining the cpac conference. Conservative Political Action conference. Gingrich. Lista thank you for that warm welcome. It is great to be back at cpac. There is a good reason so many conservatives come to washington each year for this important conference. Hasfour decades, cpac played a major role in developing ideas and issues for the conservative movement and the American People. This years conference may be one of the most important because it comes at a time when president obamas policies are failing at almost every front. Our discussions here, about the future of conservatism, the future of the Republican Party, and even more importantly, the future of america, are vital. They must be based firmly on the key values of american exceptionalism and the founding principles of our constitution. Every american should understand what makes us unique as the people, as a country. Many ofately, today, our children are failing to learn the basics about our American History. Are learning revisionist or politically correct history. As a consequence, many people, young and old, have no idea what it means to be an american. Because of this, i have developed in American History to series for children, known as the ellis the elephant series. [applause] fails to accurately teach our children about American History, then we have to step up and get the job done. [applause] this october, my time traveling as he joins is back lewis and clark on their journey to the pacific and from sea to shining sea. For americanrk values, doing historical documentary films in collaboration with the team at citizens united. D that several of these documentaries have been shown here at cpac. Newt is working on a strategy that will help america break out of the disasters of obamacare, bureaucratic domination, and economic stagnation. Newt believes that we can break out if we embrace exciting innovations that will lead to a Better Future. Focused on combining the principles of american exceptionalism with the strength of modern science and technology. Againombination will once make us the clear choice for solving americas problems and lead us to a healthy economy, a balanced budget, limited government, Better Health care, and a Strong National security. To explain these ideas, please join me in welcoming former speaker of the house and my husband, Newt Gingrich. [applause] well, thank you. Thank all of you. I congratulate the American Conservative Union on its 50th anniversary. And i congratulate you have been seen more widely than any conference we have ever had. I am impressed by the sheer number of people who have been speaking and the degree to which they are being watched her on the country. I came to reinforce rick perrys speech from yesterday. Particularly where he said it is time for a little rebellion on the battlefield of ideas. [applause] i want to suggest to you that actually, it is time for a big rebellion on the battlefield of ideas. Warning. Me to issue a if our movement is primarily antiobama, we will in fact reduce the number of victories we should win this fall. If we spend the next three years being primarily antihillary, we will virtually guarantee her election. Muste first democrat in a 70 years told the white house for a third term. We must stop being [laughter] it is a fact. No democrat has been elected three times in a row. We do not want that to happen. To make sure that does not happen, we must stop being the Opposition Movement and we must become the alternative Government Movement that will help to make the life of every american better, so that they understand what we would do that would be right, not just what the left is doing that is wrong. [applause] last year at seatac cpac, i talked about Thomas Edison and ulb. Light halb those things have dramatically improved the lives of the American People and given them dramatically more choices. I think that we can break out, if we combine american science, andm, technology, and entrepreneurial ship and understand that we can offer a dramatically Better Future. We can be in favor of the kind of changes that dramatically improve peoples lives. I wrote a book that outlines this. I do a weekly podcast and to newsletters that you can get at gingrich productions. Ofhink that the synthesis core values that have made America Great, with the capabilities in science and technology, so that we actually reduce the cost of medicare in the future, because we solve the problem of alzheimers. We reduce the cost of children with autism because we solve the problem of autism. There are a thousand things going on in our country. Hundreds of thousands of pioneers of the future. All of you can go back home and you will find people who are developing a Better Future. The reason it has become so hard is that we have also grown Prison Guards of the past. They do everything they can to block the development of a Better Future. You just sell the mayor of new york to that enclosing Charter Schools in a way that hurts black and hispanic children. He represents the Teachers Union who are the biggest Prison Guards of education. [applause] if we had had the current model of your credit government in the 1840s, the stage coach wouldve hired a lobbyist to pass a bill for limited railroads to the speed of a horse. Anything else would be unfair competition. To do is toiting set up a conversation in america of everybody on our side. In 2016, Hillary Clinton will be the leading prison guard, propping up every failed bureaucratic institution in america. [applause] if this is a fight between the future and the past and we truly represent a Better Future and they truly represent those forces blocking that future, we will win decisively and we will govern for two generations. A healthyocess American Economy and improve the health system. We will accelerate learning and america to an extra ordinary degree and we will regain our National Security honest ale that no other country can compete with. That requires us to be oriented to positive things. One of the keys to this future is a smart phone. How many of you have one . Howmany of you no longer many of you no longer carry a map in your car . Think about what a revolution it is to look on maps as obsolete. You have some woman telling you where to go. [laughter] i know a number of you guys have had that experience earlier. [applause] i knew you would like that. Let me give you an example. The smartphone will be the leading Public Health device in the 21st century. It will be the leading a learning device. It will be the leading management will. Tool. Dr. Has a smartphone that has eight applications. He can do in a lecture cardio gram with his smartphone. Seen the dramatic rise in applications to improve your health, wants to take over approving applications for smart phones. If you want to see a fight where we can be on the side of the other americans and the left is hopeless, talk to any college youus and say how would Like Washington bureaucrats slowing down the number of applications you can get . Most of them are free. The washington bureaucrats want to control what you have access to. I want to commend senator doug because they introduce bills in the house and senate that will block the fda from stopping smart phone apps. [applause] that as an example of what a breakout party is capable of doing. I urge all of you to look at the kahn academy, which has over 10 million visitors a month. For free. Whichk at duo lingo, teaches six light which is for free. There are 40 different applications for education, all of them free. There is a revolution coming and we have the opportunity to lead it. It will dramatically shrink the bureaucracy and return power to the American People, increase the quality of your life, and do so in a way that returns us back to a much more limited government. What we stand for is an effective, accountable, limited government under the constitution. That is a choice we can win. [applause] let me also say that first breakout was in north dakota. The fact is, we have had a revolution in natural gas and oil. We are now the largest natural gas producer in the world. If this president had any sense of seriousness about russia, he would have already issued an executive order allowing American National gas to be shipped to europe. [applause] he would already be open to that offshore and federal properties for exploration and he would say that we would drive down the price of oil so that russia would be bankrupt as it was in the cold war by Ronald Reagan. If you look out five or 10 years, a povertystricken food and is not a very dangerous putin. I think we can Design Strategies that can increase american jobs, increase the healthy American Economy, we can russia, and to do so in a way that is totally peaceful and yet stunningly powerful. That is what reagan was about. He defeated the soviet empire without a general war by intelligent, sound strategy. [applause] breakout. I hope all of you will go home and find pioneers you can work with. I also will go home and work with the local government and school board. Develop new breakthroughs. Work with state legislators. I do think we have an enormous opportunity to create a Better Future. I want to close with something i said about prosperity. I want to defend the president. I think that sometimes we have to be big enough to stand up for him even if we do not agree with them. There are a number of people who have criticized him for going to key largo, florida while there is a crisis underway in ukraine. I just way to know, the president spent all of last week proving that he was capable of being ineffective. I believe he can be as ineffective in key largo as he was in the white house. [laughter] [cheers and applause] so my closing appeal to you is to go back home and say to your stand up for obamas right to be utterly ineffective wherever he happens to be, and dont expect more than that because you aint gonna get it. Thank you very much and god bless you. [cheers and applause] ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the Vice President of external affairs that focus on the family. Good afternoon, everyone. Ben carson is, shall we say, a bit of an over achiever. He was, for many years, a professor of neurosurgery, lasix surgery, oncology and pediatrics as a director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins medical institutions. He is the author of no less than four bestselling books and he thees on the boards of kellogg company, costco, and the academy of achievement. He has the merit of fellow of the yale corporation, and he and his wife have founded the remarkable Carson Scholars Fund from which there are no less than 5000 scholars in all 50 states and the district of columbia. And candy and ben are the parents of three great sons. If that were all i were to tell you about ben carson, his would fearlessered a life of achievement and extraordinary accomplishment. Said isything i have one sense the top line. Theres more to know. Our funding fathers disagreed on a few things. Whether the sharia constitution, whether there should be a National Bank and currency, what the parameter should be for a standing army. But they all agreed on one big thing. America, and this new country they were formally founding, that is liberty were , thereustained over time will be an essential need for virtue in its people and especially virtue in its leaders. Virtuous moralat excellence and they believe that in the american express, that virtue came from the Judeo Christian tradition, from the holy bible and from the scriptures. [cheers and applause] our founders had no religious hold national office. They did not want an established church, but they wanted the judeochristian tradition to flourish because they know that when religious liberty flourished, the new republic was flourished, too, and they were right. And america is an exceptional country. Ourdeclaration declaration and our constitution rdc bets of our greatness. In the people and in the leaders remains more important than ever in america. Our speaker today, dr. Ben carson, embodies everything we as conservatives believe about the essential first president First Principles of our leaders. His moral excellence has been refreshing and his civility and his candor have been the merit the narrative of this already important time in the Public Square. The original conservative, edmund burke, famously wrote one man with conviction makes a majority. Abouts he was speaking dr. Ben carson. Lets welcome him. [cheers and applause] you make me feel alive. Beeny i have been, i have losing sleep lately i have been, i have been dreaming hard. No more counting dollars, we will be counting stars lately i have been losing sleep dreaming about the things we could be thank you very much. Before i get started, i just want to introduce my wonderful wife, candy, of 39 years. Thank you for that very warm while come, and i just have a lot to say, so im going to go pretty quickly here. Dreams,is the land of and it has the filled the lives of so many people from so many places. As a child, i had the dream of becoming a physician. I loved anything having to do with medicine. I even liked going to the doctors office. That tells you i was pretty weird. What an incredible career that provided for me. Some one had simian front of the keyboard and said i want you to type out the career you want to have, i could not have come out with a better scenario because land ofin the opportunity because i had a mother who heard no excuses and because i believe in god [cheers and applause] i thought last year when i retired that i was going to learn to play the organ and learn some new languages and play golf. I think the good lord had a different plan. [cheers and applause] i am not sure what the culmination of that plan is, but i am having a good time and candy is having a good time as we go all over the country, red states, blue states, north, south, east, west, enormous, enthusiastic crowds coming out and it is like you mean there is someone else with common sense . I am not the only one . [cheers and applause] here is the good news. The majority of the people in this country have common sense. The problem is they have been beaten into submission post up the pc police and all these people, and people are afraid to speak up for what they believe. One of the principles he said you make the majority believe that what they think is outdated and nobody thinks that way and the way they think is the only intelligent way to think him and if you can get the media the process, that is how to have happen, and it is time to get people to proclaim what they believe and stop being bullied. [cheers and applause] you know, one of the most wonderful things that people say, dont you miss medicine . What medicine used to be. I do not miss what it has become. But i do miss the patients. The good thing is, i have operated on so many thousands of patients, there is virtually nowhere i go that i dont get to see some of them. It is a wonderful thing to be able to get involved in peoples lives. The most important thing they have is their health care. And that is the reason that we need to fight to make sure that that stays in their hands and not in the hands of the government. [cheers and applause] you know, medicine prepared me for out of the box thinking. It prepared me for a lot of controversy. Newt involved in doing procedures and there were some people who did not like that very much, but i tell you the difference. And medicine, we actually talked about it. We talked about the difference is we talked about the evidence and the facts, and when the facts were shown, people made adjustments. Unfortunately, that does not happen in a political world because you are dealing with ideologues. They do not care how many facts to show, they just want to believe what they believe and they want to keep doubling down on it. And the only people who can stop them are us. The American People. [applause] know, i am not a fan of Political Correctness. I hate Political Correctness. [cheers and applause] i will continue to defy the pc police who have tried in many cases to shut me up. I actually find them pretty amusing. I mean, i still believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. [cheers and applause] you know, because i happen to mention that nobody gets to change the definition of some otherd mention categories, they said carson said that gay marriage and bestie ellie are the same thing. That is preposterous. Of course they are not the same thing. Thatdy who believes is a dummy, but anybody who who says thatody summary said that is a dummy. That is the problem, ok . Of course gay people should have the same rights as everyone else , but they dont get extra rights. They do not get to redefine marriage. [cheers and applause] and then i said that obama care was the worst thing since slavery. I saidt me tell you why that. Of course they said carson said that slavery and obamacare are the same thing. Sameurse they are not the thing. Slavery is much worse, but to bear in mind what happens with obama care. Have American People, with of that program shifted the power that was given to us by the constitution and by the founders to the government. It is the most massive shift of power in america that has ever occurred. To redo it,we need we need to put the power back in the hands of the people, and we need to make sure we keep it there. [cheers and applause] and then recently, i said that , people do not believe in what hitler was doing. Most of them did not. But did they speak up . Did they say anything . Absolutely not, and look at the atrocities that occurred. They areys that changing american to not see germany. Of course that is not the case, but that is what they do. He repeat these lies over and over again because they cannot argue the actual facts. I do not want to talk about the real issues. [cheers and applause] and it is important for the American People to understand the tactics of these people who simply sit around and try to demonize people, come straight out of the book, rules for anarchists. He says never have a conversation with your adversary because that will humanize them and your job is to demonize them. That is why you see that all over. Intelligent people will i findand that because that there are so many people who get intimidated so easily. Stop being intimidated. I look at somebody, like dr. Melanie cooper, who was having is having a banquet a week from tonight in atlanta, new community horizons, victory over diabetes, she is a wonderful woman whos concerned for the welfare and health in the community, and there are some organizations there telling people to boycott her, not to support her, why . Because im coming to be the speaker. And they say we dont want him spelling is poison particularly to the young people. I wonder what poison that would be. Without bd poison of self would that be the poison of selfreliance and self respect . Would that bv poison of telling wouldnt majority that be the poison of telling people and minority to injuries that they need to turn the dollar and that you should reach up and pull others with you and if you do that you have to depend anybody else . The poison of talking about how education is the key and that you dont have to be a victim . It is a matter of what your mind and what you decide to do. And that the most important her son when it comes to your future is you and the decisions that you make and the things that you decide to do. This is america. We are free. We can do that. [cheers and applause] and most importantly, would it be the poison of putting what god says in front of what any man says . Think about that. You know, we have the debut of a new black conservative magazine called current c. Electronic magazine through the Washington Times, but you were going to see a different point of view, and it is not going to be about being a victim, it is about how we use our collective intellect and our resources to mobile, and that is what all of us as conservatives should be empathizing. Not like some other people, how to keep people down and outs you be voting bloc. We want everybody to move out. And im going to go there. Im not believe in political great missiles of im going to go there to the 47 because i used to belong to the 47 . But made itthe 5 , way up there, and i know there are a lot of people in the 47 who are decent, hardworking americans, who want to realize the American Dream, and we are here to make sure that they do that. Were going to bring them up. [cheers and applause] and the other thing, so important save our health care. Part of the american legacy pa. K why have i gotten involved with that in . I thank everyone who has signed the position the petition. Over 200,000. The leftwing says the reason we do not like obama care is because it is not to go far enough. That is not true. We do not like it. We want to change it. We want something better. We want the health care in our own hands. We do it. We pay twice as much per capita in health care for this country than the next mosys nation. We can easily do this. We have a lot of alternatives. You will be able to read about them. The other thing i cannot go without saying 17 point have trillion Dollar National Debt . 17. 5 trillion National Debt . The only reason we can do that is because our currency is the basis of the International Reserve currency system, and we can print money. Money,se could print they would not be in trouble, either. In the few century bc, they could, and they were the currency, but that was a long time ago, and they were being pretty responsible. We are being just as irresponsible, quite frankly. 17 trillion. Do you know how long it will take you to pay off if you pay 10 million of them . 4700 years. That is absolutely absurd. We are killing the next iteration. We have to think about that. What did putin say last week . You putwe, russia, if sanctions on us, we may just decide that the american dollar will no longer be the reserve currency that we use. Quite frankly, that is not going to hurt us for a much with just russia. It will probably hurt them more than us. But what if they get other people to do that yo . Concerns. Voiced some the u. N. Committee in 2010 had oyster some concerns. It is because we are irresponsible and the only way for us to get out of that is we have to know who our representatives are and the one two are voting to keep raising that definitely, get them out of office. [cheers and applause] i have several other things to say, but my time has expired. [crowd] no but one of the things that is so important for conservatives the ship is about to fall off the Niagara Falls and we are all about to be killed. And we have a bunch of people looking over the side of the ship, but there are barnacles. We have the at the barnacles off. Forget about the barnacles. We have got to get the ship turned around first. When we get through the primaries and season, if your person has not won and you can call them whatever they want to call them, you can call them a rhino, a tea bagger, whatever you want to vote for them. [cheers and applause] we need those people. We need them. Also, we have got to get back to thatame mentality americans had in the pre revolutionary days. They got together with their friends and their neighbors and their associates and they talked about what kind of america do we want to have, what we want to pass onto our children, and they encouraged each other, and that is how a bunch of ragtag militia men the most powerful army in the world at that time. You need to go out and talk to people. Everybody you know, have a discussion. Do not let the left shut you up. Everybody needs to talk about what were doing and what we want to have as a nation. Encourage each other. Talk to your 87yearold aunt who has not voted in 20 years. Go and make sure that she understands what the issues are. If she is an invalid, make sure she signed up for an absentee ballot. If you need to go help her fill it out, go help her fill it out. Get all of those people, bring them back into the fold. I run into particularly elderly people all the time all over the country, and they say i have given up on america, i am just waiting to die. We have got to bring them back in. The greatest generation can help us save this nation once again. [cheers and applause] and finally, you think about the people who sacrifice so that we can be free. I could talk about a lot of them, but you can read about them in our book one nation, and i know the left will say he is just talking his book. That is all he wants his money. I have got plenty of money. That is not the problem. [laughter] our action steps, and we have action steps to help people, every american citizen to get involved in having a country that is four, of, and by the people. We can get it back, but we have to be brave. Think about people during world war ii. Nations falling like dominoes one by one. The whole world about to come tyranny except for one thing this nation, the United States of america who sent young youngs, but suburb men from the cities, the suburbs, the country. The young man who could build factories, a country who through its strength and mike and determination changed the course of the world. You want to tell me we are not exceptional nation . You go jump in the lake. That is absolutely not true. [cheers and applause] why were they willing to fight . Why on dday did those guys storm these shores of normandy, being a mode down by machine gun fire, hundreds of thousands stepping over their comrades, overwhelming axis powers . They did it because they wanted you to have a land that was free. They did not do it so you can have a friend where our leaders pick and choose the laws of they want to enforce. They did not do it where we can have a land where we pick winners and losers. They did it so that we can have a nation where they were as freedom and justice for all, and the next time you sing the National Anthem and you get to the end of that first stanza, and it says the land of the free and the home of the brave, do not just let those words roll off your tongue. We must remember that we cannot be free if we are not brave. Thank you, and god bless. [cheers and applause] the trick is to understand where we are going, we have to understand who we are. As individuals, as a society, a stand, and they felt and aividual freedoms Strong National defense. That is why in a world that ,ests our love, we cannot wait we need organization that is committed to the unassailable intellectual intelligence. An organization that is not afraid to proclaim that truth is truth, that conservatism is alive, and that no government should control the lives of the people we serve. An organization that always renovates and will never stop we never forsake our time. At a time when American People has made america the land of the free. Ladies and him and, please welcome the ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the honorable jim simmons, president and founder of the heritage foundation. [cheers and applause] thank you. Wow. Isnt it wonderful to be here with so many patriots from all around the country . Thank you. My travels across the country i have the pretzel the pleasure to meet with thousands of patriots from all walks of life. I met one of them a few weeks ago in florida that i want to tell you about. His name is bill. He turns 90 years old this year. He was born when Calvin Coolidge was president. He lived through the worst of the great depression, world war ii, many other wars and recessions. He can hardly hear or see. But he has a positive attitude about life. He wanted me to see the Christmas Card that he sent out last year. It was a book. It was bigger than most church directories. Because he has 93 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also want me to see a picture of all of them with the pope at the vatican. He said when the pope sell them all grouped together for the picture with him, all he said was i do not have to ask if you are catholic. [laughter] every year, bill Gibson Family gives his family one word to use when anybody says how are you doing. All usestion we are all use everyday. Last year, the word was grateful. Said i amf them grateful. Grateful for the warmth of friends le for the grateful for the kindness of friends, grateful for the kinds of strength full, grateful to live in the most prosperous nation the world has ever known. All year long, this grateful spirit cheered hearts of everyone who came in contact with all of his children, his grandchildren. It certainly warmed my heart, and as bill was talking, it made me wonder when my grandchildren are grown, will they still be grateful for their country . Worried ora still be still be earning the right of its citizens to be grateful . Another, each year piece of masonry falls of the things that we care about and we are grateful for in our lives. Things like jobs and security, religious liberty, hope and even love. You might think it is strange for me to say that we are losing something abstract like love. Government might tax and regulate a lot of things, but they have not yet said that love causes Global Warming. Not yet. So let me explain what i am talking about. More than 200 years ago, the british philosopher and who wasn edmund burke, an early friend of the american revolution, hit upon what really makes love of country possible. In his words to be attached to the subdivision, two lovely the to love the little platoon e re attached to in th we proceed to love the country and to mankind. I thought about this idea a lot. In fact, i have written a book about it. What burke calls public affections, the bond that joined us to a home, a community, a state, a country, to a people, they do not exist because some political bullies in the administration or the congress mandates. Become instead from the links we share with all the little platoons in our lives. A family, a church, a local charity, a middle School Soccer team, a pta. A Small Business we work for. It is through our investment and loyalty in these small institutions and their investment and loyalty to us that we have affection for our communities, our fellow citizens , and it sustains our love for america. The country that makes it all possible. S inspire us to make a difference of the world around us as individuals. They encourage and channel the inclination to develop not only our full potential and serve create but they began to that public affection and patriotism. Lets think about it for a minute. What happens if the top brass in the big Central Government begins to replace and to spend these little platoons in our lives . What happens when decisions are made from the top down instead of the bottom up . What happens when politicians begin telling us what to believe and how to live . Ont happens when we depend Big Government to solve our problems instead of ourselves . What happens . We know what happens. You can see it all around us. An economy that languishes. Opportunities disappear. Problems get worse. And instead of a sense of unity and love for our fellow divided ande feel even angry with those whose views are being forced down our throats. Only about 10 of americans have any faith in congress. The majority of us say that the country is on the wrong track. And a large majority of Young Americans no longer believe that the American Dream is attainable. This generation may be the First Americans in history who are worse off than their parents. What is happening in our country is enough to frustrate and impress even the most optimistic americans. Ofy have simply checked out the public debate altogether. Who can blame them . The politics, supposedly the art of achieving the highest common good for our republic has become a blessing to replace little toons and little onesizeaking wiwith fitsall decisions that does not that do not fit anyone. Replacest dependency Community Support and self blame. Replace hand ups. Resentment replaces love of the american founding and the freedom that came with it allowed many people with different backgrounds and beliefs to call this a land home. Living in harmony while preserving their different beliefs and ways of life. It family and community could govern itself according to its own needs and traditions. Within the splendid framework of freedom and equality provided by the constitution. But when so many different viewpoints and lifestyles are forced into one mold, the free market of ideas becomes a yranny over our hearts and minds. Coercion replaces freedom. And he needs and wants of others are forced on us by government. Our fellow countrymen become objects of resentment instead of affection. Useshen our own government tax collectors to target assistance because we are concerned about outofcontrol government growth, spending, and debt, or when individuals are forced to pay for the taking of human life, or when Small Businesses are sued and find because they refused to dissipate in activities that violate their deeply held religious beliefs, or when our children are forced into failing schools with no other choice, or when we feel like our voices are no longer heard or even wanted by our representatives in congress, our love for america and our fellow citizens is strained. None of us here have fallen out of love with the American Dream, american ideals, americas americanatoons, or the vision of a free world, but most of us have fallen out of love with a political system that favors special interests rather than a common man. A broken system that is tearing down the america we love. The only way for us to change our government is for we the people to remember that the solutions to americas problems will not come from washington but from the little platoons all around us. It must be freed from the one sizefitsall federal government straitjacket. Americans will unite around core ideas of our founding and our success. You know them. The ideas of free enterprise, limited government, individual , aedoms, traditional values Strong National defense. These are the conservative ideas that build a Strong America and can once again unite us. This unity can be achieved through the original constitutional idea of federalism that focuses the federal government on maintaining security through a Strong Defense while moving from a and decisions many government functions back to the states, the communities, and to the people. [applause] and when washington stop trying to direct all aspects of our lives, americans will fall in love with each other and their country. If we let states compete for the best schools, the best health care, the best transportation system, the best ways to develop energy resources, the best tax competition will provide our economy, expand opportunities, increase upward mobility, and build an Opportunity Society all across america. We see this competition and innovation working in a School Choice in louisiana and florida and other states. A booming economy from Energy Development in north dakota. Lower taxes and regulations in texas are creating many more businesses. And worker freedom in wisconsin and michigan and other states are attracting new businesses and economic development. These are our ideas that work. [applause] america is the greatest, most prosperous, most and most compassionate nation in the history of the world because we are different than any other country in the history of the world. Our success comes from the ground up, not the top down. Our strength comes from individuals in a vast army of constantlyoons that sustain and revive us. This is what creates in our hearts the power full of of country that brings us all together today. So i challenge you, my friends join me in falling in love with america again and again and again. Thank you, and god bless you. [applause] thank you, folks. [applause] ladies and gentlemen, please welcome be o our country craves leadership. Remindsa administration us of the ugly side of liberal authoritarian ideology and raw political power. That is not leadership. That is a punishment. It is my honor to introduce a true leader. She has led in the private sector, she leads in the charitable world, she is leading in the debate of ideas. She bravely took on liberal Barbara Boxer in california. [applause] that is right. She ran against a liberal woman in the most liberal state in the country. One itd be interesting wouldnt it be interesting if yoshe took on another liberal woman in 2016 . It is my honor to introduce the chairman of the conservative womens foundation. [cheers and applause] go if they come, easy thank you. You know what makes me mad . Liberals who say we dont care. Are we really sick and tired of hearing that conservatives are waging a war on women or we dont care about about ther we are all 1 or we do not care about the little guy. The truth is liberals who are willing to sacrifice other peoples lives and livelihoods at the altar of their ideology. [applause] you want a few examples . You have all heard about the terrible drought unfolding in california. It is real, but the disaster there is completely caused by failed liberal ideology. Californias population has doubled in the last 40 years, but liberal environmentalists and their little liberal political allies have refuse to allow a single new Water Reservoir or water conveyance system to be built in the same 40 years. The result of that 70 of the rainwater, the rainfall each and every year washes out to sea. To make matters worse, the decisions about how to use this very limited Precious Resource of water that californians have those are not made by californians. Every single one of them is made in washington, d. C. Each year, people are told you get 10 of your ration, you get 20 of your ration, you get 30 of your ration. What is the result . The most productive farmland in fallow, ande livelihoods are being destroyed. According to liberals, fish are more important than family and food. Liberals do not trust that farmers are good stewards of the land. They do not believe that californians can make sensible decisions for thei themselves. Their solution . Sent president obama out with a check to provide relief, but do not let anybody solve the problem. You want another example . Liberals tell us that Global Warming is the challenge of our time. Of course, it has been so cold lately, they have not changed it the jobte change, but killing regulations they are spewing out of the epa, they cite the scientific evidence, but they never finished that story. Those same scientists who are trying to convince us that Global Warming is real also tell us that a single nation acting alone can have no impact at all. Never mind, sadie liberals. Lets wage a war on coal and fossil fuels anyway. Never mind, say the liberals will sublet. All major Infrastructure Projects including the xl pipeline. I have visited co. Country many times. I have met hardworking, proud people whose families have fored in the coal mines generations. Their lives, their livelihood, their communities, their their aspirations are being sacrificed at the altar of liberal ideology. [applause] talk about income inequality. Who has made it worse . Liberals want to protect us from banks that are too big to fail by passing thousands of pages of legislation and regulation. The result 10 banks that are too big to fail have become five much bigger banks that are too big to fail with record bonuses being paid all around, and at the same time, Community Banks are struggling. The truth is that big business and big labor have more influence in washington, d. C. Today than ever before, and at the same time, more Small Businesses are failing than at any time in the last 40 years. Perhaps liberals are talking so much by a Company Quality right now because they hope you wont notice how much worse they have made it. [applause] and the poor one in six people in america live in poverty today. The liberals answer . Attackfood stamps, Charter Schools. Have you watched a protest against mayor bill de blasio who have a crusade against Charter Schools are now . Have you seen those protesters . Most of them are African American and hispanic families in the savannas communities who just want their kids to have a chance. [cheers and applause] and the dirty little secret about a minimumwage hike it may help the people who already have a job, but it hurts the people who dont have jobs, and it hurts the people who are looking for an entrylevel job and the chance to work their way up. [cheers and applause] and one last example. I am a proud prolife woman. [cheers and applause] like so many other young women who are prolife today, i believe science is proving us right every day. Prepared to accept and respect that not all women agree with me. I know how lonely a woman can feel when she faces a terrible decision. What we are not prepared to accept is that we are waging a we on women simply because know that abortion at five months is inhumane to mother and child. [cheers and applause] we are not waging a war on women simply because we believe there is no reason for birthcontrol to be free. All women, and we do not insult them by thinking that all they care about is reproductive rights. [cheers and applause] all issues are womens issues. We are half of this great nation. [cheers and applause] women balance the checkbook. That is why women care that we cannot balance the checkbook in washington, d. C. Women make the health care and the education decisions for our families. Women worry about our own jobs, our childrens jobs and our husbands jobs. We are conservatives. Causes us to recognize that anyone of us can follow on tough times. We know that anyone of us at anytime can need a helping hand and a Second Chance, and so we give generously to those in need postop ask the poor what they really need. Ask especially those single moms struggling to make it through one more day. Here is what they will tell you whiley need our help, and we know that god gave each of them dignity and selfrespect, they need those things from us too. [applause] and they need and deserve a job. [applause] we have profound respect for the capabilities and the potential of every human life. The poor do not lack ambition or intelligence or potential. They are poor because they lack tools and opportunities. Person, when any person has the tools, the training, the education to tap their potential, the opportunities to lock their potential, and the liberty to pursue their own , then in their own ways they and our nation prosper. Liberals who display a callous disregard for the dignity and the potential of others. It is liberals who are prepared to sacrifice the likelihood of others at the altar of their ideology. It is liberals who believe that some know better than others what is good for you. We here at cpac know that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to fulfill their potential, we know that everyone has the capability to build a good life. The highest calling of leadership and of our nation is to unlock the potential in others so that they can live the very best life they can. [applause] all of my life, people have asked me what i believe leadership is all about. Some people think leadership is power. Osition, title, leadership is not about any of these things. Leadership is about unlocking potential in others. Leadership is about changing the order of things. To change the order of things. [applause] we declare the end of the obama era. [cheers and applause] us together lead our nation to fulfill our potential. Let us rise together to meet our destiny and be the nation we know we must be. God continued may to bless america. Thank you very much. Easy come, easy go, now we on top in 1966, 2 years after helping found the acu, william startedey broadcasting firing line. It can be witty and intense, intelligent. The format was simple. A conservative, buckley, versus a rotating cast of liberals, with both being questioned by a third examiner. In a tribute to firing line, please welcome todays examiner, the Vice President Channel Media , jonathan garthwaite. Folks, are you ready . We will be dividing todays firing line into three segments. In a second, the guests will go at each other a bit, and then in the third, we will get some questions from the audience that you will have to tweet to cpac johnpanel. Ours time to introduce contenders. Todays liberal is a former journalist for newsweek who now writes for the daily caller. Gentlemen, nikki and our conservative, can you guess . Times time new york bestselling author, syndicated columnist, a fixture on cable news, please welcome our firing line femme fatale, and coulter anne coulter. Thank you. Here . That is fine, right there. Do you want to close on in . All right, lets get started. First segment, i am going to go at you guys a bit first. All right, so, ms. Coulter, as a proud university of Michigan Law School grad, in which class did you learn that the president of United States only has to enforce the laws to which they agreed . You know, i learned that at a grateful dead concert. [laughter] it is a serious point the way obama it is unconstitutional legislating from the white house. The constitution divides us into branches, the congress is supposed to write the laws and they are very carefully designed. Your senators for six years and members of the house for two years, and they write the bills. But his only rule to write legislation is to beat away. If it is not if he does not veto it, then it becomes the law. The most talked about becomes obamacare. Most egregiously with our immigration laws, at least with obamacare, people talked about it. And it is a tough one for republicans because we were the one to fight to get these waivers put in. Obama rejected them. We want applied to unions, once wont apply it to Small Businesses, so a small number of people are being screwed. It is a tough argument for republicans if we want the whole things way. Thing waived. You want the democrats who want , potentiallyts Illegal Immigrants, because they bodies,e voters, warm more votes. Amnesty goes through, and the democrats have 30 million new voters. I just dont think republicans have an obligation to forgive lawbreaking just because the democrats need another 30 million voters. Businesses generally that won it, you have yuppies that want it. In l a, they have a garden. Those areheap the big groups that want to, but the only people on the other side are the American People. Republicansissue should be screaming about executive orders on. Can the president pick and choose . No, and i am pretty confident the Supreme Court will pen back his ears. That is one thing lawyers are pretty good at, keeping people in the bounds of their power. Clerked for a judge, it is not all it is not all go by what the rules are. It is in large part, do you feel this guy needs to be reined in, and i think the Supreme Court will feel that. The spikyes me is fact that obama is untrustworthy on immigration, and he said i cant stand to see the dreamers, and then when the election was lemay, he said maybe i can, and he went ahead and did it anyway. The republicans still press ahead for amnesty, including john boehner in the house. And i dont understand why. The democrats have a perfectly amnesty,on to pray for which is pandering that will ensure our power for the next two generations, but what is the republican excuse . Next. Is it doubling the dead and i go is to russia setting ukraine free . Era to does the liberal coming out. Reagan saying he would increase tax revenues by lowering this. It is not have. David from a conservative. It turns out he is a conservative economically but invest his money on the theories of paul reuben. He paid a lot of money. Grateful to put it in ways. Put it in place. He says our debt is not all that bad here it i do not think it is explode when the baby boomers any their medicare which is very soon. Obvious area where they will grab it toward, make the rich pay more. Make them pay more. That will solve it. This has to be said. More revenue did not come into the Treasury Department. [applause] every year taxes went down. I think this is in every single book. More year taxes were cut money came into the United States treasury. The problem was to oneill would spend three times as much for every dollar that would come in. Years, everything always comes back to immigration. We are talking about immigration. For people for year. This is going to be sustaining medicare. We notice this or they are noticing the browning of america. Youou do not celebrate it, are a racist. Who areing to bp will not from america. They are going to be funding older white people who are going medicare security or age. At some point theyre going to say screw it. Under of thee over number of years before it is illegal to criticize the democratic president . I think obama is different from the rest of them. I get a little depressed thinking about who we are going to run next. We arelook at barefield not going to have people fainting as joe biden rallies. You sort of have to lobotomized herself from all of a hamas policies to recognize this. I think he is the most articulate person the democrats have run for president in my lifetime. You take them out of the equation hillary . Biden . Hopefully governor moonbeam. Andrew cuomo and hopefully well free speech against democrats again. [indiscernible] in california we see with the future politics is if we have. Mnesty of the Republican Party is irrelevant in california. Forget it. Democrats are governing the state. They have to be responsible. We cannot blame republicans anymore. The democrats have been responsible. This is work pretty well in california. We take the gloves off. It is you against each other. Your question. Havent republicans stepped up on amnesty . I do not quite understand this. I spent all day looking at the new ideas. He have a positive new ideas. With midlevel tinkering allocations and when will we funded to three times poverty not three times . None of that will do good in any compensate for the wage of on americans. He is going to push them down. What is it with your party that has fallen question mark Republican Voters do not like it. What happened to marco rubio. Do they persist in this suicidal rush . Of those questions. They keep doing this. Hearof it is you do not the truth about immigration or amnesty anyplace in the media. There is no issue as much importance to the americas that are hidden from immigration. Youre talking about who votes. One of my friends told me there was a big facebook debate about liberals acting up and should we should we throw texas out of the union because it is so conservative . We are going back and forth. We are saying that is what amnesty does. Votersion conservative overwhelmed, gone. The country does become california. Is cowardice. Some feel we lost the last election. Will you vote for me . Look at the polls. Careans do not about amnesty. Th who cares about workers . The ones that came in the year before and the year before. I have heard republicans hate but people. Ive never seen any hate black people. Untilever seen any proof marco rubio. Who gets her the most by amnesty . Lowwage workers. It is hispanics. It is blacks. The fact that republicans cannot grass that you grasp that. It was mccain, bush. A zombie amnesty. We cannot kill it. They keep coming back to it. [laughter] it is theion is lobbyists. It may not be the congressman himself but i think be staff does. What about authority on this . You are apparently the party of the working class. Democrats have opened the door to this. They want to raise the minimum wage. Why dont they raise it the way new zealand and australia do . They have 14 and 15. They choose their immigrants wisely. They give you points on the basis of youth, skill, education. What jobs do we need in new zealand and australia . I thought you guys cared about the poor working class. It is hard for me to defend the democrats on that. Aree were some senators who very popular for precisely this region. Bernie sanders opposed until obama bought it up with a one point billion bs jobs program. That sick care. Wrote one ofe who the best articles on immigration. He said this is a plan for cheap labor. You will not see the people on the floor of the senate until amnesty passes. They will say what tony blair says about their immigration policies. Maybe we made a big mistake. That it is too late. That is the difference between amnesty and tax debate. Taxes we can always raise if we do not like it. Amnesty there are no do overs. Once you let them in, they are in. The reports came out in those years. Harry reid once called the anger , harry reidphy law or ruling insanity. Of course that is insanity. There were some good democrats but i guess now they think screw the country, screw lowwage workers we want our 30 million. It is the triumph of ethnic politics. In the 60s time when people came in and set it is not the proletariat that count. It is the fact that we are black or hispanic. We said youre crazy. Mamarxists. T even Charles Murray agrees americas coming apart. My right and leftwing friends agree with it. Relatively trivial. Culturally, the rich are growing very different from the poor in behavioral as well as money terms. The rich have two parent families. The poor do not anymore. The poor has babies out of wedlock. Does anybody on the right have a solution . Yes. I think part of the problem, and i completely agree with trawls purity you read terrifying divorce statistics and find out they are completely different for College Educated people and those with only a high school degree. The unwed motherhood rate. It feeds upon itself. The one thing that has really changed, this i do have the government subsidizing bad behavior. You have hollywood rewarding bad behavior. Theres also an overwhelming cultural cents. It is a Political Correctness to end shaming. Shaming is good. [applause] cruel and selfish upper classes to be educated, for the College Graduates to refuse to tell poor people keep your knees together before youre married. That will solve so many of lifes problems. You are interfering with their cultural mores. Theres something very strange. Have written about the problem of littering among other immigrant communities. Barely allamericans lizard a lot. Who started a campaign shaming americans out of this . Was actually the corporations themselves. Withwere producing these disposable cams and placed themselves. They did not want it all over the landscape. It was anheuserbusch. They funded these ads to shame americans out of littering. Now at all of these National Parks were this is coming from recent immigrants, we cannot suggest that any one group is doing it. Park. Just shut the that is what they are doing. Always the solution. We do not want to stigmatize anyone. Sometimes stigma is good. How about stigmatizing unwed , runningd littering across the border illegally, how about digitizing that . Can we just do that . I lost track of whose turn it is. Usually this comes up every year. It is the marriage proposal. Could you stay on, please . How about if Hillary Rodham clinton does not run, are you a biden man . I am. I despair of my field until i look at your field. Obama twice. I voted for him last time. [boos] i thought he would enact obamacare. I do not think he was screwed up. I thought he would not get amnesty done. So far he has not disappointed me. He has not gotten amnesty done. It seems to me all the republican candidates in tooting ted cruz will sell out on amnesty. Theres not a single republican who will not do the bidding. The hope is to select another democrat so at least the republicans will at least resist and the way they do obama. The only democrat i found in the last few cycles has been ed randel. He took on the unions. He is relatively candid. He obviously has broad appeal. [laughter] here is a question. He was your pick or 2016 . A response to something mickey just said. The 2008 elections you and i have an ongoing and vicious debate out over which one would be more enthusiastic about amnesty mccain or obama . It is close in the end. He is trying to do everything he can. It is not elected republicans. It is the American People stopping republicans. That is probably the best hope. They used to think everything was about sex. Everything is about immigration. It determines every single other issue. Of course that is how we have to pick our president ial nominee. He was the most aggressive on immigration. This was very appealing. In the first debate he had one of the best answers. He had two weeks to write an answer. Themu want to give drivers license . He had arty done that. Will notey said i appeal to hispanics the way republicans always do. Any hispanics he were here for a handout are not voting for republicans anyway. Who were here for a handout are not voting for republicans anyway. Of selfe fun deportation which i never understood except i think liberals and the media can turn erm apple pie into oh they said apple pie. Most american support a path to legalization. To round up Illegal Immigrants at gunpoint, put them on buses, send them home ripping children from grandmothers or would you like to put them on a path to legalization where they have to learn english and take lessons and patriotism and pay back taxes of which there are none . There is no politician in washington suggesting rounding anyone up. We just verify. When the jobs dry up. College tuition subsidized by the taxpayers. Conservative remember when joe wilson got in trouble for [inaudible] president obama yelled out you lied because republicans have been fighting for two weeks. Obama said no Illegal Immigrants will be able to get obamacare. He yelled out you lie. We find out he is right. Obama was lying. He has announced to illegal aliens please sign up for obama care. The only way to get republicans for president. Does like invasion of the body snatchers. You think they are so good on taxes and national defense. I think it has to be pressured from americans. The reason americans often fall down on the job is you will not read anything about this in your no cool newspaper in your local newspaper or on television. That is living i will give the amnesty proponents. They know lets not talk about it. Lets do it all hushhush and try to flip it through. It tripled legal immigrants. Most americans do not favor a path to legalization. When you hear them going on and on about the children. The children under the dream act include young man who snuck across at age 17. They are in their 30s now. Overwhelmingly, most immigrants are young males. Theirill send for families later. This nonsense about families being broken up and the children. It is not as if people crossing barrels of pico de gallo, is not like they did not know what they were doing was wrong. Everyone acts like they stumbled into the country. It was disappointing for me to read on november 14 when endorsed the path to citizenship and legalization. Sellbody on your side will out on amnesty except for jeff sessions. He is the only one. Romney is going for his obituary in the new yorker. Best case for democrats in 2014. We just made it. How do we win . We are not going to win. [laughter] [applause] at this point with obamacare, it is like the iraq war and the fastest way out is to go through. And then we it done can fiddle with it later once it is up and running. Obama will not produce amnesty. Chance of not producing amnesty if the republicans will stand up. They do not trust him. Youre supposed to pay for a fine. Obama waves the fine. Everybody knows that. The best hope for those big things is to vote for the democrats. Why should american vote republicans . It is the only way to appeal obamacare. I hear people say do not get on the way. It is falling on its own. Nothing falls on its own. We have all kind of heinous government programs. Ever falls on its own. The only way to get rid of obamacare, and i am an individual out there. Did nott of the 1 that get a waiver. Wait until it comes to you. Get annot be able to englishspeaking doctor who went to an american medical school. Country toleave the find one. Maybe on an indian reservation. That is going to be an argument. The only thing that will hurt it is i am disappointed. Immigration is for ever. It is game over when that happened. Ever republican voted against obamacare. To figure outying if you can vote against obamacare. I do not like hearing him say we will keep the good parts of obamacare. What is that . Amnesty is forever. Youve got to vote for the republicans one more time. If you pass amnesty, it is over and we organized the death squads for the people who wrecked america. [applause] thank you. Thank you to ann coulter for showing up. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the executive are of the National Rifle Association Institute for legislative action. How is everybody doing today . I heard some good political speeches. Youre not going to hear that during this panel. We are to talk about lawful gun ownership. It is something that could possibly save your life. Maybe it has already eared we have a great panel today. Lets start off our first panel that has been 17 years in lawenforcement before elected to the Florida State legislator and went on to become a member of congress. Shes not scared to stand up to the other side when they attack your Second Amendment rights. Please take a look at this video. [video clip] feel legislation. I am sorry to use that phrase. I do not feel good about being here today. He does not feel good about being here today. Were trying to make this country safe. I understand him as someone new has it has been on the wall at judiciary square, but criminals by their very definition do not obey the law. When you take away the guns that people have to protect them selves, lawabiding citizens are left unarmed. I am sure youll support universal background checks. System also. Flawed i would love to have an opportunity to discuss that with you. Please welcome the honorable sandy adams. [applause] thank you so much for being here. Our next analyst has over 35 years in law enforcement. He currently serves as the sheriff of the walkie county. Of milwaukeered county. He is not here to speak his mind. [video clip] that have gone on that change the dynamics here. The law thatt in citizens to use force of two deadly force against a home intruder. The other is the personal protection act. That is the concealed carry. Coursee to take some and pass the background check or whatever. Then you get a permit to go armed with a concealed weapon. Im trying to leverage those two things. To get people, lawabiding people, some options in the , some things to do. The police cannot get there right away. And they may not. [end video clip] please welcome sheriff clark. She serves as a political director of the editorial writer of the opinion page of the Washington Times. Emily gets her guns chronicles a disaster of a situation in washington when it comes to lawful gun ownership. She recently went on with everybodys favorite piers morgan and had a little interaction with him. Please watch. [video clip] theres never been proven they do not prevent a decline in violence. We want to decrease violence and make our children safer. They dramatically reduce gun crime. They do not. They do. Gun ownership has skyrocketed while violence has gone down 40 . [end video clip] our friend emily miller. Into this. Jump right emily, you had a lot of fun talking to piers morgan. Everybody loves watching him get made into a full. More than a pleasure. He lost. Cnn canceled him. That is a good thing. You made a really good point iers, that while god ownership ask what drupal. Violent crime is at a 40 year low. Ownership hasgun quadrupled, Violent Crime is at 40 year low. It does not make people that are raped feeling better. Their are still bad people out there doing bad things to good people. I know you chronicled the d. C. Situation with regard to buying a gun. What was your reason . Halfstarted you down this of wanting to become a gun owner . It is amazing to me that i am talking about gun control. I never shot a gun before two years ago. I tell you. If it was two years ago and i was sitting in the seat, i would be worried that the sheriff would shoot me. That is how little i knew about guns. I had this confusion. Ands at a friends house took a dog for a walk. I came back, enter the house and found something robbing it. A man. I surprised him. He was surprised to see me. I was able to talk my way out so was not hurt physically. He took my wallet. I was the sheriff, i walked down the street to get a photo. I turned the corner of the driveway and found two pickup trucks in the road and 15 men standing there because they had been casing the whole neighborhood. They started running at me and i cause actual law enforcement. Going to bed that night it was the first time in my life i ever thought i wish i had a loaded gun by the bed. If these guys come back and they want to rape and murder me, there are beasley on drugs they are obviously on drugs. How will i defend myself . Later i have a loaded gun by my bedside table in d. C. It took me four must to get it legally. Ive never felt safer. [applause] unique perspective in this serving as a policy maker after your career in law enforcement. Suffered through this as well. You lost your husband. I know theres not only a professional but they personal respect for the Second Amendment you have. Can you share your thoughts on it . What i said to the senator was accurate. Criminals are by their definition do not obey the law. I have seen over and over again whether it was in my professional life or whether it was in my professional life as a policy maker. You can create all these feelgood laws that have no teeth that will he ignored by onlyriminals and the people you hurt are the lawabiding citizens who have their weapons to protect themselves and their families. Serious about are doing something that works, they need to enforce the law they currently have on the books, which they are not currently doing. The other drivers that are causing these Violent Crimes. Im happy to discuss that with them. Whether it was on the state level or the federal level. Too many times you see politicians wanting to use this as a wedge issue to divide americans when in actuality it is americans that they need to be protect dean. By doing so protecting. By doing so they need to enforce laws that currently have. I hope eric holder is listening. He is the one that needs to really do his job. There is no question about that. About the lacklk of prosecution efforts. One of the worst part of your job is having to talk to families, not only victims but have beenf those who killed by criminals. What do you tell these sad families who have run through these tragedies when it comes to protecting and taking care of yourself when the police cannot be there . Are right. What do you say . You cannot really find words. Emily said something that was interesting. She called this the actual law enforcement. This is what i have been trying to do in Milwaukee County in terms of flipping this equation. The father of mine in policing said the citizens are the police and the police are the citizens. She was acting as a law abiding citizen. I trust lawabiding citizens with firearms. I fear criminals. Selfdefense is the first law of nature. That you have to be prepared. That is the message i was sending not only to the lawabiding people in Milwaukee County but the criminal element as well that we are now going on offense. Passed a Castle Doctrine several years ago. Ever liked what hundred 65,000 people within the for 106 5000 in the first year that applied or permit. 5,000 people prepared to assist me in keeping their communities safe. [applause] here is why that is important. Citizens want to play a role in their own safety. When youre going up against an at a individual you are distinct disadvantage. The perps have something to think about now. That is right. I appreciate that. It is a great discussion on this whole onset of self defense and right to carry permit laws. 50 states now allow some process , not all great, for lawabiding people to get a permit to carry and defend themselves. Wisconsin was late to the game. You are the 49th state. You beat out illinois. That is good. Better late than never. What we hear out of the Gun Control Groups nomad or where we no matterforts where we push the efforts is that it will be a wild west shootout. That there will be people shooting each other on every corner and people are not trustworthy. Have you seen problems in Milwaukee County with good getting permits and doing bad things . I trust lawabiding people. We live in an imperfect world. There will be people from time firearmthat possess a and then use it in a way that they should not. That individual. It is just like if someone takes an automobile and drives it in a reckless fashion and kill somebody, would you want to take my vehicle away because they did that . I would flip that around and say why do want to take my rights away which you cannot do anyway acted in aebody else foolish fashion. If someone went into a heater and yells fire, will we be talking about taking your First Amendment rights away because they acted irresponsible . No. [applause] we would deal with that individual and they would have to pay the price. Turn back. Ly it will florida proves that is that true. 27 years ago they passed their permit law. 2. 5 million floridians have gotten permits to carry in that state. 182 have sense gotten in trouble suince gotten in trouble with a firearm. When itthere in 1987 was passed. What do you tell the people who do not trust lawabiding people to defend themselves . That lawabiding that,ns they are just lawabiding. I was on the street in 1987. I remember when the law was passed. You had all the hype about how was going to be so bad. I did not see it. I never saw it. Criminals byt the their very definition are criminals and the criminal element is who should not have the weapons. Hether it is a firearm, knife. They have different ways of forming our citizens. 50 states allow some right to carry. D. C. Moved in the wrong direction and had a very limited process. They repealed it. Too mean to be trustworthy with a firearm . , why is d. C. So threatened . It is the same concept that they believe in new jersey and california and maryland and new york is that we individuals are not responsible enough to whats on the street and defend ourselves, that giving us a care permit is going to turn us into criminals. It is so the czar to me. That is the mindset. I repeatedly asked how do you just ignore this whole right to bear arms park . It is clear. The Second Amendment is not that long. He just says we have the white house. We have the Supreme Court. We have all these important people in washington. I have two points for him. Hes pretty sick of me down in city hall. The people all have armed guards around them. You do not need to protect the president. , i love the Supreme Court justice, but why is there more important than mine . I am the one who is walking down the street. Repeatedly want to point out that we have states that do not allowed concealed carry permits. The Supreme Court is going to have to take this up in the next case coming up. They basically do not give anybody carry permits. We have a split on the circuit levels now. Have one in san diego versus maryland, new york, these other cases. Right to bear arms is a deterrent. I think what is near you in detroit, like james craig recently said, he wants people to have concealed carry permits. He said it is a drm for crime. Criminals do not know who theyre going to hit it is a deterrent for crime. Criminals do not know who theyre going to have your virginia, there is no crime. If they want my iphone, they will put a gun to my head. Go over to old town, he might they might shoot back. Criminals are not that stupid. Emily said something very striking. This is my copy of the United States constitution. I carry this everywhere i go. [applause] i read this thing once a year from front to back. It is not take that long to read. As emily indicated, the Second Amendment is clear. You do not have to be a constitutional scholar to understand that the Founding Fathers were not constitutional scholars but they knew what they wanted for the American People. They said at the end of the Second Amendment shall not be infringed. Thiswe need to do in country is get to the original intent of the Second Amendment, stop all of this might or issue because that is what stops the whole thing. The armed citizen made this country free and the armed citizen will keep this country free. [applause] copy ofu could drop a the constitution ought to dick durbin and some of the folks off on the hell. Tother thing when you listen Chuck Schumer and dick durbin, you watch them when they swear in they put their hand on the bible and they swear to uphold the document and they conveniently forget the parts they do not like which is the Second Amendment. It is unbelievably frustrating. I just want to point out. The issue of the right to keep gun rights, it is not about party. Clarke is a democrat and i am ready to elect a president. This is not about democrats and republicans. This is about americans. The majority believe in the right to bear arms. They do not want more gun control. They know by example it is not working. It is not a party split. It is about common sense and logic and what are the statistics. They show the more guns there crimepermit there are, goes down. This is one issue that is not cross the party line. Criminals are not asking if you are republican or democrat before the whole a gun on you. One and the things i hear is not only a fear and anxiety out of washington, d. C. That i do not trust these people, theyre coming after my freedoms and rights. It is a local fear. That the paper. They read about prisoners being released early because of budget cuts. They cannot afford risen guards are the cops are getting fired are they cannot work overtime. Those sorts of things. I am sure you are not immune to budget cuts. Overwhelmed . 911 have you seen the delays get longer . Budgets are under stressed right now. We do not have the resources we would like to have. What i try to do is get people involved, people that i trust. Lawabiding people to allow me to help them keep their communities safe. Ended you indicated things like early relief and Second Chance programs. Those are all great things to have discussions about, but the reality is the violent predators walk through our neighborhood. We are putting them back into the already stressed neighborhoods. They could care less about this document or your rights. They could care less about what were going to try to do to keep firearms out of their hands. I get a kick out of how this howussion always focuses on many instances a law abiding citizen used a gun and properly but criminals use them on unproperly but criminals use them every day. That is what we should focus on. The criminal elements. This has been a discussion that goes as far back when i was a Police Officer with the budgets for law enforcement. Whether it is law enforcement, firefighters, Public Safety. Grows population communities get larger. At criminal element looks more targets. Lawenforcement get scrapped. Stretched. Having lawabiding citizens help with their protection. You have been on both sides of the budget. You have helped write them. You have helped deal with them. Prioritize security and safety which is something is in the book and is a . Esponsibility of our decisions sometimes it gets lost. The Public Safety of our citizens. That is our responsibility. Government needs to make sure they prioritize that. Theres no excuse for not prioritizing that. I want to talk a little bit concept of gunl free zones. On his lawabiding people, once you cross a certain line youre no longer honest and lawabiding. You know this in kenya last year. For four days there was just. Ragedy and rampage wounded. 2 people they had of the international askice agency said yourself, if that was denver, colorado or taxes, with the guys have been able to spend hours shooting people randomly. It makes people question their views on gun control. Where would you rather be . We all nod our heads and it is common sense. You cannot pray hard to forgive person to with a gun to show up. Any fast forward to last saturday with china here it there were these madmen attacking people with knives here it killed the three people, injured 130 more. The first thing i thought of was i wish that someone there had a gun. When they said there were a bunch of attackers, i thought and i hope they have a high cap magazine. Youre going to need in a situation like that. Of an armedlection response. Im not making this up. This is what china recommended. What would your definite what would your deputy say to the to you . Skin saturdayke a night live. Peoplee zones get killed. The only person safe is the criminal perpetrator. You mentioned the key phrase stop the threat. Be therepolice cannot in real time, when the threat is happening, somebody has to be there to stop the threat. All the stuff about hiding under the desk, im not saying you shouldnt do that. You get to make the choice as to how you will defend yourself. Someone should be there. Someone has to be there to stop the threat. Believe the Armed Services is what makes our citizenry citizens say. If it is a private as is and they want to put up a neon sign that says no guns, theyre saying come visit us. I do not mind if a private business was to have that policy. That is their business. I am worried about public spaces where they tell me i cannot go to a public space, that is where government makes the decision for me and for you that you cannot exercise your Second Amendment rights, which includes the right to selfdefense. That is where i have the big problem, when government in prose as the gun free zones. Those gun free zones. You have written about some of the worst atrocities happening out there. Is something that liberal media president obama will say all the time. That is why this whole debate started a year ago after the horrible tragedy in newtown which all of us watched unfold on tv. We were all crying. It was the most were in the thing you can imagine. Exploited that to launch a whole year to push gun control. Fact, ill never say this Mass Shootings have not increased. The Congressional Research service did a study last april. They looked at 30 years. They account for on average 18 deaths a year. They are wearable. The reason theyre on tv and the reason they are on tv for days is that they are rare. It would be so much more helpful and honest the president after the Navy Yard Shooting or newtown came out and said these things are horrible but you are safe. This is not getting worse. In city comes out and says this is getting worse instead he comes out and says this is getting worse. All of the Mass Shootings except for gabrielle giffords, all of them were in gun free zones. Shooter wentaurora to the theater that was gun free. They were houses closer to his house that had armed guards. Gun free zones are such a dangerous places. I just think any parent should allow a sign that says gun free on the building. An open can be discussion. There should be a vibrant discussion on all of these things. What we should all agree on is that a sticker and a window that says no guns allowed is not a School Security plan. It is not a protection of malls or anywhere else. Would you put in your front yard . Welcome to come and rob me. We are starting to run out of time. I do want to squeeze one more topic in. That is the hypocrisy that we see coming out in mayor of the world. The frustration over a lack of enforcement. I have no problem with mayor bloomberg having armed security. Ive no problem with him hiring his full detail after he left. That is great that he can afford it. I was joking with the sheriff that i carry a gun because youre too heavy to carry. Do not have the luxury of hiring personal security. They want to tell us that it is ok for them but we are not worthy. We are not trustworthy. We are not good enough to be able to defend ourselves. What do you say to the Mike Bloombergs of the world . We are on tv. I would say that he needs to really reflect on his decisionmaking. Right to bear the arms. It is our constitutional rights. It is our Second Amendment right. We have a right to defend ourselves. Just because he is wealthy guards,o hire his armed that is his choice. The rest of the americans who want to carry and protect themselves and their children and families, they have that right based on the Second Amendment. Therefore he should not be trying to influence and causes bees wedge issues just to do political. We are both from different parties but we both agreed that the Second Amendment helps save lives. It held people defend themselves. Facebook for this freedom. Rankandfile has always supported the Second Amendment. There was a survey done recently. Nine out of 10 current retired Police Officer support concealed carry laws. You will not hear that out of some of the chiefs of the that coming out of some of the chiefs. Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the executive director the brain initiative. The people are fighting for liberty. [speaking spanish] when it comes to obamacare, there is an ever widening gap between what was promised and what the law is actually delivering. President barack obama is constantly telling the American Public what he intends the wall to deliver. The consequences and the many delays he has been forced to announce on a monthly basis now. Control mode, democrat congressmen are now busy putting out Campaign Commercials claiming they are the first to call for fixes to obamacare. You might be able to throw more taxpayer money at fixing the horrendous website. How do you fix a system that is mandated by government . Run by an army of bureaucrats . Riddled with control . When it comes to health care, statism cant be fixed. It has to be based with market based solutions. On todays panel we will discuss what citizens are doing to cope with obamacare moving forward and what they are offering as alternatives. Market ace solutions that would come after the system eventually collapses. Skyrocketing prices. Out ofs being kicked their individual and employerbased plans. All the while participating states going bankrupt. For this discussion, i want to introduce our panel. The first is evan feinberg. He fought for limited government while working as a senior aide for senator rand paul and tom coburn with the heritage foundation. He now leads a millennium focused organization working to free the future. The honorable scott pruitt is the attorney general of oklahoma. Established the federalism unit to combat unwarranted regulation and systematic overreach by the federal government. He is a National Leader to restore the proper balance between the states and federal governments. He feil a first lawsuit filed the first lawsuit of the Affordable Care act. Mother and grandmother from ontario, canada. She fled to the United States for lifesaving surgery after her Government Run Health Care failed to provide the care she desperately needed. She has become a passionate patient advocate you feel strongly about the need to caution americans about the negatives of Government Run Health Care. Markhe honorable dr. Greene. He is a state senator from tennessees 22nd district. He serves as the vice chair of the commerce committee. He was selected as the rookie of the year, appointed cochair of the legislatures from 16 states and was recognized as one of the top 21 emerging leaders. He is a ceo of Emergency Department Staffing Company with this this is in five southern states. 160th assigned to the special ops Aviation Regiment were his most minimal mission was the capture of saddam hussein. Memorable mission was the capture of saddam hussein. Lets welcome our panelists. [applause] evan, i want to talk first about the promises made, promises broken. One of the promises was universal coverage. , skint candidate obama 2007 to sign a universal healthcare bill into law that will cover every american candidate obama, in 2007, a universalsign healthcare bill into law. The biggest factor for people who do not intend to get a plan through the marketplaces is that they believe they cannot afford one. Thanks so much. Of course it will not cover every american. Its a terrible scheme that tries to use my generation to pay for an older, sicker populations health care. Young americans responded to those promises and were very favorable about obamacare early on. It had an over 60 approval generation. My its now less than 40 of my generation a supports obamacare. Over 60 opposes it. Its the least supportive generation of obamacare. They found out the promises were not being kept. We are being forced to pay as much as three times more for our health care to pay for other Peoples Health care. They keep trying to give really pathetic marketing pitches trying to sign us up for this terrible deal that offers us nothing and really offers the country nothing. Theres a reason why Young Americans are opting out of obamacare, as we have encourage them to do, and choosing better deals for themselves outside of the scheme. You were responsible for one of the most successful Marketing Strategies with uncle sam. Can you tell us about that . We did a Marketing Campaign around a patriotic image pervert it into something government was really never meant to be, something that controls our lives and injects the government into the doctorpatient relationship. Millions of people saw these creepy uncle sam ads, and thankfully, millions responded by realizing they could opt out of obamacare and are choosing not to sign up. Another problem is [applause] is no new taxes on the middle class. Candidate barack obama promised no family making less than 250 thousand dollars herewith see any form of tax increase not income tax, payroll tax, Capital Gains taxes, or any of their taxes no family making less than 250,000 a year would see any form of tax increase. Talk about this promise. I know it has been a shock to you and im sure too many in this room, but the irs does not comply with the law. The Affordable Care act was very clear the states had a decision to make on whether to set up a state health care exchange. Various legislators made informed decisions about whether to set up a state health care exchange. Because 34 states said no and because subsidies were going to be issued through the health care exchange, which would not allow the penalties to be assessed if states did not set them up, the irs came in after the fact and said, well fix that. Well pass a rule. Well change the law. We will issue subsidies in all 50 states and assess penalties in all 50 states. Theres one problem with that thats not what the law says. You have this attitude in washington, d. C. , these days with many agencies that they feel like their responsibility is they feel like it is their role to improve upon a statute, enforcee a statute, to it in a way that is different than the way Congress Passed it. Thats the reason the president can say, ive got a pen, and ive got a throne. Its the responsibility of the executive branch to enforce the law as they have been passed by congress. Oklahoma and 33 other states in the nation opted out of the health care exchange. Chargea is leading the to hold the irs accountable. [applause] oklahoma successful in and we hope to have a decision by maybe the Second Quarter going into the third quarter, but if we are successful, 33 other states across the country could then say because they have not set up a state health care exchange, the irs cannot enforce penalties in those states, which means the primary enforcement mechanism against employees against employers goes away and 34 states. The 700 billion in subsidies goes away and 34 states. It is the most consequential case in the country. I think it will perhaps cause congress to have to revisit the law. It is the last, best hope to see the Affordable Care act go away, so we are glad to be part of it. [applause] terrific. What are the chances of success . One of those famous philosophers once said that productions are pretty tough, particularly about the future, yogi berra. I am hopeful. We believe we have a court and judge in oklahoma that will get the law a right. We are going to make sure we press this and hold them accountable. Terrific. Is annualoblem premium savings of 2500. Candidate obama promised in 2008 to lower premiums by up to 2500 or a typical family per year and to do it by the end of his first term. How did this pan out . What can be done to get at to reversing the cost curve . The first thing we need to do if we are going to try to fix obama care is elect a new president that is probably the best thing to do [applause] want to get back to those savings, weve got to reinsert Market Forces into health care. There are Great Companies out there with innovative ideas. Two of them come to mind, and by the way, i do not have stock in either of these companies. They are essentially becoming a priceline of health care. You go to your physician, and your physician says you need an mri on your knee. You go online to these websites and essentially shop for the cheapest mri that meets the needs of your physicians request or prescription. These are innovative ways that will reinsert the free market and drive down costs in health care. Weve got to do that because decisions we do not set these deductibles for patients. Insurance companies do. And they are very high. The deductibles that are coming off of the exchange. Something like this, something freemarketbased will make his deductibles more palatable and drive down costs. If we do not do that, we will not be successful. There are tons of ideas out there from telemedicine to other Business Opportunities helping drive down costs, but thats the only way to fix the issue right now. One last promise i want to speak to you about, the most famous 1 you can keep your plan if you like it. President obama promised if you like your health care plan, you would be able to keep it. No one will take it away, no matter what. This promise was made in various forms over three dozen times. How did this promise go so wrong . Will we ever be able to have true market choices and pick lands suitable to our individual needs . Talk to me a little bit about your experience with the canadian healthcare system, your caution for americans. The sad thing is when i heard those promises, i, like many people, knew that it just was not possible. I think myself and a lot of other people spoke out and said that you have to really be cautious because this is not possible for him to be able to honor that promise that he made. I think the next ink that is so important for people to focus on at this point the next thing that is so important for people to focus on at this point is the other promises he is making now. Youre never going to have the canadian system, that this is not going that direction, that this is very different. Yet, you will hear a lot of people throw around the term singlepayer, which is exactly the canadian system. And this promise that they are kind of leaning on at this point is that you will continue to have choices, and this is where im here to say that you absolutely will not have choices. I had to come over to the United States just to get diagnostic imaging done, just to see specialists, and then i returned to canada to try to get treatment, and i was unable to do it and had to return to the United States. I was one of those people that actually thought im embarrassed to admit it, but i thought the american system was a horrible system until i was forced into trying it. Being a patient on two sides of the border, i can tell you that the minute you hand over any of your power to the government and let them get in between you and will immediately be something you will regret. [applause] yous this something that are resisting, government control, that you see is sort of a libertarian streak of this new millennial generation . Absolutely. We ran a campaign to encourage Young Americans not to sign up for obamacare optout. Org. One of the promises was that they would get universal health care. The government would provide it to everyone. They would show up to the doctor, and it would be free. Little did they know they would get massive ills for little choices and Little Health care. We wanted to debunk that myth but also the myth that they really had to sign up. We would love for penalties to go away, and we would love for legislation to remove the individual mandate penalty, but there are also lots of options outside the obamacare scheme that Young Americans can take advantage of. Unfortunately, there are fewer of those options because obama is puttingbamacare those plans out of business. We have found a lot of success in taking that message to young people and pushing back against. Bama care against obamacare theres a war on youth going on in america where politicians are throwing the next generation under the bus. As long as that continues, our country will go bankrupt, and Young Americans will continue to have no economic opportunities. I think the libertarian streak you see him on Young Americans today the limited government streak among younger americans is they have seen how Big Government has not helped to improve their lives or the lives of their peers. Soon enough, enough of us are going to push back and say, we want an america of freedom so we can be the solution to these problems. Obamacare is clearly not that kind of policy thats going to create opportunity for my generation. Barack obama has also been delaying big portions and components of the law, and i do he is keeping this from the. There are various legislation pieces moving through congress to address this issue. A requirement for federal officials to give an explanation when laws are not enforced, born from the many arbitrary delays by president obama. I want to throw it out as a general question. Senator, maybe you can start out on this issue. Do these provisions or legislative efforts to remedy the situation have any merit . The frustrations i have as a businessman im not only a Tennessee State senator, but i run a Health Care Company is president rules that obama is doing, allowing Certain Companies to delay the mandate of picking is sort and choosing. The most recent one said that companies of a certain size could. If you are not of that size, it is suddenly a competitive disadvantage to you. They are picking who can opt out and who cannot. That should not happen. I am completely for Congress Taking action to keep the president from usurping their powers to make the laws of the land. As the attorney general said, its his job to enforce those laws, so i am all for them holding him to his job and not allowing him to do their job. Theseyou think that delays are because they are finding now that this is really a bad law with bad effects and bad results, like they found out in canada . I think thats what they are saying. They are saying that if everybody relaxes, in four or five years, everybody will calm down everything will calm down, and you will love what they have given you. This. Ada, we have tried our system is imploding, and we are trying to fight our hardest and go the other way. I am a constitutional challenge or in order to fight for the right to purchase private insurance because im not allowed to have it. Im not allowed to use my own funds in any way to take care of myself and my family. However, i can get an mri tomorrow at the vet of my choice for my dog, but i cannot for one of my children. That is where i think that we really have to focus. Things are not going to get better in four or five years. It will just be too late in four or five years. [applause] could, a quick expansion on that. I run a Health Care Company on that, and we have Emergency Departments all over the southeast. We actually have a hospital we provide coverage for where there is a canadian company, and the ceo of that Company Recently through flew from canada to our town to get his health care in our Emergency Department. That tells you, the singlepayer system is not where we want to go. Is this entirely political, out of your political selfinterest . The delays . I think that is a large part as bad as the Affordable Care act is and is much as we all hope it is repealed, there is something more fundamental with your question in my estimation. The senator said he owns a physicians practice. He is in the healthcare business. Think about this for a second this law was passed in 2010. Insurance companies, hospitals, doctors, consumers, people across the country have been doing whats since 2010 . Planning, trying to do what rule of law is supposed to encourage, and thats what . Conform your conduct to what the law says. Businesses are making decisions on how to deploy capital, who they hire, how to comply with a law. For the president to come in unilaterally and consistently say, i know the law says, but im going to change that, that causes things to be so disruptive in the Healthcare Industry that we do not know what to do. Doctors do not know what to do. Sot is why rule of law is important. It allows us to have confidence in something larger than the leader. Called the law is bigger than the king. These are not opinions about whether he has been unfaithful in the execution of his duties or violated the law. The Congressional Research service documented enumerable times where the president has changed the law or repealed it. That should cause all of us commit his concern, not just because we care about health care or the Affordable Care act is bad that should cause all of us tremendous concern. We have got to start speaking about that because democrats and republicans ought to care about that. They ought to care about an executive branch that is filling the role of the legislature. They ought to care about a regulatory arm that simply goes out and dues whatever they want irrespective of what congress has said in a statute simply goes out and does whatever they want irrespective of what congress has said in a statute. [applause] went oneen sebelius the daily show and jon stewart really push her on how come Young Americans who want relief from the individual mandate do reprieve thatme businesses get under obamacare, and she said they can just opt out. We think thats what they should do. But it really brought home when john stewart is just going after the administration night after night, why are you not implementing this law fairly and equally to all americans when stewart is going after the administration night after night. Young americans realize this law is not benefiting them. It is not fair. It is not providing them anything of value. That is one of the reasons you have seen the negative perception of this law go up. It isthe end of the day, the administration picking winners and losers. Theyt with the epa do that with the epa. They do that in the health care context. It empowers them in that process. Its exactly whats wrong with our federal government today. Picking winners and losers within the context of the terrible message to the rest of the world and this country that we do not respect the rule of law anymore. [applause] there is probably even a bigger issue with this if you take the satellite view. Stuff itution grants the powers of the state was an intended part of our constitution. What we have now is a situation where the Congress Taxes us, takes the revenue to the federal government. If we comply with the program, we get a little bit of money back. Orther its road Dollars Health care dollars or education dollars, it is an undoing of federalism, and that is probably an even bigger problem that concerns me. [applause] what are some of the problems that you see on the horizon that maybe we had not anticipated yet that will result from the implementation of the employer mandate . Anyone . Youth unemployment right now effectively is 16 . Young americans are out of work. A third of Young Americans under the age of 34 have been forced to move back in with their parents. The provisions of obamacare are really crushing employers, making it difficult for them to hire new employees. Theres an entire generation of americans who have never seen american prosperity. A graduate they graduate from school and have these marketable skills but are unable to get a job. Obamacare is making this even worse. Its not enough that they are making us pay three times as much for worse health care. They are making it impossible to pay off our Student Loans and get our foot in the American Dream. Three times as much . Premiums for Young Americans across the country are going up by at least read times to buy similar policies with huge deductibles that will still cost us way more outofpocket. There have been zero promises from obamacare that have come true to make my health care any better. That is what this generation has felt from this law, and thats why they are so negative about her. The Hispanic Community is very young as well. We have a 27yearold median. Verage age a survey by forbes says we will be paying 22 higher in one year on premiums as a result of obamacare if you are 27 years of age. In a state like new mexico, it will be 142 . This is about insurance, not access to care. That is where you are looking at the canadian system. Can i add to that quickly . We kind of yield in this debate that what took place in 2010 was about health care. It was not. It was about Health Insurance. Just because you cover more people and cover the uninsured, it does not ensure they have access to physicians. For years, states have expanded medicare eligibility. Not your fault, senator. That Medicaid Expansion in oklahoma, we covered children. Those kids could not access a doctor in tulsa, oklahoma, because only two editions to the reimbursement rate in medicaid only to physicians only thephysicians took reimbursement rate in medicaid. Of care, lessy choices, and higher cost. Things are not panning out. Lets give a round of applause to our panelists. [applause] much, and enjoy the rest of the conference. Thank you. [captions Copyright National cable satellite corp. 2013] [captioning performed by national captioning institute] ladies and gentlemen, the former under secretary of state in the george w. Bush administration and in your fellow at Harvard University center of science and international affairs. Good afternoon, everyone. We are going to spend some time focusing on the crisis in ukraine, and i want to take a minute and give you a little bit of context to what is happening. Lets go back to last year. In november of last year, then president Viktor Yanukovych turned down the opportunity to become associated with the European Union. That association would have resulted in Economic Reforms and ,olitical change in ukraine which is in dire economic straits, and now, those changes could make a real difference in its way forward. As a result of his unwillingness to sign that association, tests massive protests broke out on the streets in tf and throughout the nation. People put their lives on the line because they wanted to become associated with the west, with the European Union, and they were also protesting against corruption because corruption has plagued and set ukraine back. Fast forward, february of this year, three diplomats from europe went to ukraine to try to broker a peace between the opposition and those demonstrating on the street and with then president viktor. Anukovych the polish, french, and German Foreign ministers, and also, the Russian Ambassador was there. An agreement was concluded, and that agreement was signed by. Henpresident yanukovych the agreement called for a change in the constitution. An agreement to go forward with Economic Reforms, and that there would be new president ial elections to be held before december at the end of 2014, and there were other terms that were established between the opposition and thenpresident yanukovych. It was signed by president yanukovych and those three diplomats. Happened then was in the news. President yanukovych disappeared. He ended up in moscow. The next thing we saw was that there was russian aggression into crimea. This comes at such a crucial time. Ukraine is politically gripped and economically in very dire straits. What will this mean for the United States, for the west, for ukraine, for the globe at large . We have a great panel, and i want to invite them to come out and join. We have the president of the foundation for the defense of also a foreignis affairs contributor to the Washington Times. [applause] the executive director of the center for the , associateterest publisher of the magazine the national interest. We are going to hear more about the crisis in ukraine. Thank you. [applause] gentlemen, let me go to you immediately. With that backdrop, the question on everyones mind first and foremost is why . Why did president clinton support and advance this aggression into crimea, which flies in the face of International Legal agreement why did president clinton supportresident putin and advance this aggression into crimea, which flies in the face of International Legal agreement . The agreement was protection of ukraines sovereignty. Y . If i had to boil it down to one reason and im speaking here from a russian perspective, trying to explain their thinking rather than from my own point of view as an american but to boil it down to one reason, i think russia has been quite frustrated over the last 20 years by the way that europe has developed. Many russians feel that russia does not have the kind of role in europe and in European Security that they like, and they are especially concerned about the fate of ukraine, which has very closest oracle, cultural, and other ties to russia very close historical, cultural, and other ties to russia. What you see here is president putin trying to tell the United States and western europe that they cannot decide the future of ukraine unilaterally. There are measures you could use, which are in conform with International Norms. This flies in the face of it. Im going to disagree a little bit and take a little harder line. The basic reason that putin did this is because he can. He knows that under the czars, russia had an empire. Have antin, russia will empire, and it must start in the ukraine thats the way he looks at it. Recently,n was here earlier today. I want to give her a compliment because it turns out she could see russia clearly from her house. [applause] she also saw, i think, Vladimir Putin clearly. More clearly than two United States president. President bush looked in his eyes and saw something akin to thomas jefferson, when he should have seen something more akin to catherine the great or ivan the terrible. That russia wants to live by International Norms and abide by international law, that Vladimir Putin is an aspiring democrat, when, in fact, he is a very convinced autocrat who thinks that the way we try to govern the world the idea of International Community is very silly and he will take advantage of that. In 2008, he chopped off a piece of georgia. We could say they could have but they chopped off a part of a such a, and they still control it they chopped and theyt of ossetia, still control it. Why does this matter to the United States and the west . Should we care . Tell us why. We better care. One thing, putin is deciding what he is going to do next. This is not the extent of his ambition. We do not want to see a crisis next in latvia, lithuania, poland, other parts of Eastern Europe. We need to think about whether we are going to send a strong message of our own or a weak message. He is not the only tyrant in the world looking at this and learning lessons. Under the budapest memorandum , yes, thened ukraines territorial integrity was guaranteed in exchange for which ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons. Believe me, the Supreme Leader is among those saying you do not give up your nuclear weapons, no matter what the western diplomats say about the interests of the International Community. They are establishing their own community, and they plan for it to be more powerful. It undermines the Nuclear Nonproliferation treaty and absolutely has iran watching the as areon very closely, in asia countries like japan. Which is throwing its weight around asia right now and knows it has fecklessness in washington and in europe right now. I guess i would say a couple of things certainly, i agree very much that it does matter. Theres no question that it matters. We are really talking here about the future of europe, and beyond that, the future of the international system. Bit withiffer a little cliff on the question of russia doing this because it can. There are a lot of things that russia can do that it does not do. Russia could be sending missiles to iran. T this point, its not russia is actually defending an iranian lawsuit because they signed a contract to deliver those missiles, and then at the request of the United States, they did not. They also decided that they wanted to keep the money, which did not please the iranians too much. They certainly had the option to deliver those missiles. Be iranians, im sure, would quite pleased with that. Russia is not doing that. I think we need to what russia has done is entirely inappropriate. It violates International Norms. It violates a lot of agreements, but the question of russia doing i thinkuse it can that is not a helpful way to think about it. Gentlemen, lets talk about westnited states, the looking at options as to how we can have potential influence. First, the question is do we have influence on this situation on this crisis . Secondly, if we do, what do you use . Are there political instruments . Are their economic instruments . Do we use sanctions . I think its true that putin has most of the high cards, particularly when it comes to crimea. Theres every indication he is taking crimea back into russia and we will not be able to stop it, but he is also considering whether he should take parts of Eastern Ukraine along with it or not and how he will treat western ukraine. I think you can have an impact on that further down the road. My view of it is we should not be taking steps simply to punish russia. Rather, this is a good occasion for us to take steps to strengthen america, which will send the most Important Message and perhaps stop them from Going Forward. First, we do not take a peace dividend and bring our military down to levels. Dwarii bad idea. Now is not the time to lay off soldiers so we can hire more irs officials. This is not what we want to be doing. Second, president obama said just a few years ago that he was going to have an all of the above energy policy. Has not happened. We should be utilizing every source of energy that we can Keystone Pipeline in canada, encouraging entrepreneurship, all of our gas and making sure our Energy Supplies are abundant and diverse, and i would say export to europe and begin to reduce the dependence europe now has on russia. Eastern europe in particular. You may agree with me. Im happy to agree. I think we are all in agreement. Are all in agreement so far. Here is something a little bit more radical. G8, andxpanded to the russia was included. It never belonged. I think we should at least be discussing it, and i think we should begin to turn that club into an association of thatracies and not pretend those who join will become democracies if they are rewarded in advance. What about the wto . There have been those who have singled out the wto simply because russia has used his immense economic instruments russia has used economic. Nstruments everything on my list will be something that strengthens the United States and bolsters american leadership, economic power, military power, diplomatic power in the world. The United States has to shoulder the burdens of leadership. Because there is nobody else who can do it the International Community will not do it. Putin would take the job. Ali khamenei would take the job. We do not want that. I certainly agree on energy. , we can decide in this room that that is something we want to do. There are six other countries europe. Any of them in billionets about 120 from exports to russia. Billion, 2000 billion in Foreign Direct Investment in russia. Whether european governments are ready to agree to that, im not sure. The foreign minister of france said a couple of days ago they are not yet prepared to consider canceling the sale of two helicopter carriers to the russian navy. I think we are getting a little bit out in front of the europeans on that issue. Also beeng assets has put on the table, freezing the assets of those russians who are complicit in these actions. Freezing assets, i think, frankly, is a little bit of a comical idea on the part of the administration. The United States congress theady passed 15 months ago act which gave the u. S. The state department, the Treasury Department the ability to do that. Illintentioned, selfrespecting russian after 15 haves would still significant assets in the United States . Earlier this week, the administration, when they announced that they would extend this authority to this issue, they explicitly said, we have created this authority, but we are not naming any specific people at this point. So there have already been three days for anybody who did not take their assets out in the last 15 months to get to work on a number i imagine of them called their bankers fairly quickly, so i do not consider that to be a valid policy. Lets talk a little bit about europe. Our european allies and partners are trying to develop, some of them, their own energy resources. I certainly think the United States should get behind that. There are some American Companies exploring for shale gas in western ukraine. That could make a huge difference in terms of ukraines Energy Dependence on russia, and i think that is certainly something that should be supported. We also need to think after this situation and im sure we will hear from a number of our allies about it about the disposition of our forces in europe, and that is something we have to consider very carefully. Let me ask both of you the foreign minister of sweden announced just this morning that helsinki monitor try to get into crimea, and they were not able to get in to verify the allegations going on. The statements made that the russians and russianspeaking ukrainians, that their lives are in jeopardy. They sent monitors, and they could not get in. He tweeted that. He said instead theres a movement of Russian Troops in the area. What does that portend . No monitors, Troop Movement where is this going . Its more than a violation of International Norms. When you send your troops into a foreign country, especially when they are not wearing proper insignia, thats a violation of the most basic international law. That is aggression, no question about it. Do you see this going even further . Its possible putin knows exactly what he will do tomorrow, the next day, the day after, but its also possible he is waiting to see and judge the reaction and then will decide. What i do not know, again, is whether or not he thinks he would like to have Eastern Europe and as a part of his sphere of influence or part of russia proper, or it could be again like abkhazia or south of , where South Ossetia where itsmurky status is murky. Its hard to fathom his strategy exactly. If you were to cut Eastern Ukraine, the more inductive and industrialized part, off from western ukraine, he could leave western ukraine as a ward of the European Union for a very long time, so the European Union and america would pour money in, and they would have to spend it in russia and be a basket case of a country. He might be considering doing that. I do not know he has made a decision to do that, but it is possible he is beginning to shape his decisions Going Forward as he sees whether we are feckless or determined in regard to what he has done so far, but i think crimea is lost to, realistically him if he wants it. Do we anticipate that this aggression is going to go further and split ukraine . We have eight days until the referendum in crimea. If we had in this country and ifective administration, think eight days actually would be enough time to try to work toh moscow and with others point crimea in the direction of much greater autonomy somewhat like what it had under ukraines 1992 constitution when ukraine had much greater im sorry, when crimea had much greater autonomy than it has now. With the leadership that we currently have, i think its very unlikely that that heavy lift will be accomplished in eight days. When we look at Eastern Ukraine crimeapare it to crimea, is roughly the size of the state of maryland geographically. There are about 2 Million People there, so the population density is not too high. Eastern ukraine is a totally different situation. Sending the Russian Military into Eastern Ukraine, into major urban centers, where the population is divided and in many cases more divided than in crimea, that could potentially. E very costly it is certainly a very different kind of decision than sending the Russian Military into crimea, which, you know, certainly was part of the russian empire and the russian republic of the soviet union 1954. My team 54 until come to thatl point. I think lift is correct in suggesting that he probably has not decided, but i think for the russian leadership, that would be a much tougher decision than the decision to go into crimea i think cliff is correct in suggesting that he probably has not decided. We know what is going to happen in this referendum, not least because 60 of the population in the ukraine does identify as russian rather than ukrainian, and also because it has long been a place where Russian Military officers retire. It is sort of like Colorado Springs on the black sea, if you will. There is also the basic stalinist rule that who votes does not count, but who counts the votes counts. I think we know how the referendum will come out. Thats the most protectable part. The rest seems to be open to different outcomes. It is worth the audience knowing there have been quite a few polls taken in ukraine itself. By the way, for both east and west, the numbers come out higher in a variety of polls both russians begin ukrainians and ukrainian andking ukrainians ethnic russians living in ukraine, when they have been asked if they want to be associated with the east or the west, always, the west has come out ahead. . S this a new cold war is that what we are witnessing . Paul . I dont think it has to be. Think that that is one possible outcome, and i think we need to be very careful moving forward in how we are thinking about this situation. You know, there is one school of thought, which is that we need to isolate russia and that that is the answer to this problem. The challenge that we have in the world today is that its the world today. Its 2014, not 1990. Its not 1980. Isolating russia is not really something the United States can do unilaterally. I mentioned the point about europerussia economic relations, but there is also there. Ut even if we were to succeed in bringing our european allies along with us on a strategy of isolating russia, in my view, isolating russia basically far closesia into alignment with china than it is now. You start to see again major russian arms sales to china, and, you know, do we start to see Russian Support for chinas territorial claims . New cold war, and potentially a very dangerous one. I dont think we have a new cold war. What i hope we have is a time we take off the rose colored glasses. The Obama Administration in particular has been more solicitous of our enemies and adversaries than of our allies. We have had a misguided view of in syria, andssad a lot of people around the world. We have to understand we do not have this wonderful International Community where we. Hould be one among many equals they do not want to be 19thcentury. They want to be 21st century, and somehow, they want to come around to our way of thinking. If you will recognize that, he bel form policies that will protective and defensive of the free peoples of the world and expand freedom in the world. Gentlemen, we get one last question. We have, like, 30 seconds. Which way is ukraine going to go . I think ukraine is going to be split one way or another. Crimea stays in russian hands, it is split. Beyond that, how much putin tries to succeed and how much he succeeds in taking, its largely in his hands, but we will see. Crimea, i think, is probably lost, but i think the loss of crimea drives the rest of ukraine much more firmly toward. He west over time we need our european allies, really, to step up to the plate to help to make that happen. Also, we need to be there, too. Thank you so much. Please, give them a hand. [applause] all right. In columbia city, indiana, smalltown. Very conservative art of our state. Gentlemen, please welcome the honorable jim banks, indiana state senator and 10 under 40 honorary honoree. [applause] good afternoon. As a hoosier, a husband, a father of three girls, a United States navy reserve officer, a resident of columbia city, indiana, which i might add has fewer residents than there are cpap attendees, and the only member of the Indiana State Senate to receive a 100 rating from the acu in the 2013 session , i am proud to have been 10ected as one of cpacs conservatives under 40. While its exciting to be recognized for individual accomplishment, i view this as more of a stamp of approval for the great work he is done by conservatives in my home state of indiana. As we gather here less than 10 miles from the u. S. Capitol building, its easy to be disheartened by the fact that conservative ideas and policies are being it nor in harry reids said it ignored in harry reids senate. To lower taxes and create jobs sit there collecting dust on his desk, but the story is much different and what i like to call the real world. In states like my home state of indiana. Together, we are proving to washington, d. C. , liberals that conservative ideas are not just ideological choices but a commonsense solution to make life better for our fellow americans. When it comes to common sense reform, indiana is leading the way. We have focused our efforts on freedom, freedom from unnecessary taxation, the freedom to choose the best education available, and the freedom to decide whether or not to join a union. [applause] our success on these many fronts has provided a blueprint for to chart their own roadmap to prosperity. In 2013 we provided hoosier families the freedom from being taxed during life and after death by eliminating the inheritance tax, the death tax, once and for all. [applause] families, will hoosier farmers, and Small Business owners have to decide between selling their family farm or closing their business just to pay for the governments waiting tax bills. The result an estimated 165 million will remain in indianas economy rather than being paid used to pay for more government. Also, last year, we gave hoosiers more freedom to decide how to spend their own hardearned dollars by passing the largest tax cut in indiana history. [applause] next week, we are set to expand makingeedom once more by our Corporate Tax rate the Second Lowest in the entire country. [applause] imagine that happening in president obamas washington. In terms of education reform, hoosier families now have the freedom to choose the school of their choice through the largest Voucher Program in the country. [applause] we also expanded the number of a setr schools and passed of reforms to better evaluate teachers to ensure that every hoosier child has the best teachers in the nation. The result nearly 20,000 hoosier students are using choice scholarships to attend the school that best meets their educational needs. In addition, indiana test scores are up, and indiana is seeing our highest Graduation Rate ever. [applause] on worker freedom, after their bagsacked up and fled to illinois for five weeks, we persevered. During the 20 12 session, just days before indianapolis hosted our first ever super bowl, we passed a right to work law, becoming the 23rd state in the nation to enact this crucial Worker Protection during the 2012 session. Once again, the result and 2. 5 of new jobs billion of additional investment projected to come to indiana because we gave hoosiers the freedom to decide whether joining a union was best for them. [applause] pass, and debate, enact these commonsense reforms to score political points. We did all these for far more Important Reasons we did it for the hoosiers struggling to make ends meet. We did it for the business wanting to expand and create jobs. We did it for my three daughters to make sure that every hoosier has the best future possible. I want my girls to see me in uniform serving my country and at the statehouse serving my great state. I want them to know that their dad did what he could to ensure every hoosieror and every american. I wanted to know that the answers will not be found here in washington, d. C. , but they will be found at home in states like indiana, the states that you live in out in the real world. We are both a laboratory for a shining example that conservative policies actually work. Thank you again for this great honor and the opportunity to be with you this afternoon. [applause] i was born in columbia city, indiana, a small town. Very conservative state. Those were the values i grew up with. My dad was a factory worker. My mom was a cook and a local nursing home in a local nursing home. We did not have much as kids. Thats why they were so proud of me, why it meant so much to me to be the first in my family to get a college degree. Now im serving in my state senate, making decisions that affect 6. 5 million futures. But i go back home to three daughters and a wife. I have to make ends meet like every other hoosier. My religion as an evangelical christian is important to me. I want my daughters to tell others their daddy served his country well. I wanted to recognize the importance of outlook service. Public service. Do you want to know something unique about me . I am a conservative in new york. Currently a major in the army reserves. I spent four years on active duty. I love the country. I love the flag. When i hear the starspangled banner, i love it. I think about the boy scouts and girl scouts in parts all over the country. 2006 was quite a year. I went from serving in iraq to becoming a dad. I just want a better life for my kids and their generation. I will never forget where i come from. Long island is a great place. Im raising my family here with hard work and integrity. Theres a lot of values i learned growing up that i keep in mind each and every day. We have the greatest country in the entire world, and we are free and proud and have liberties because of the sacrifices of those who served and defended us. Ladies and gentlemen, please the honorable lee zeldin, new york state senator. [applause] 2006. Ust, in iraq, im looking at these brave, well trained to my left and my right. And being so very grateful for , theirense of duty fearlessness, and their belief and a cause so much cells. We believe in the freedom upon which our nation was built. Of seven armye values we look to live with each and every day of our lives. The acronym is leadership loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Personal courage can be demonstrated in so many different aspects of our lives. Personal courage in combat is that teenager who sees his fall,n sergeant trip and exposed to enemy fire, so that. Eenager exposes himself the sergeant gets up, gets himself to safety, but that teenager is mortally wounded. Personal courage can be demonstrated in health. My daughter [captions Copyright National able satellite corp. 2014] personal courage in congress is when we have the political will to control our debt and reduce our deficits. We have to stop the generational theft that is taking place right now, and the mountains of fiscal obligations that our next generation has inherited. It is having the courage to repeal obama care. I have never supported obama care and never will. Premiums are going up, ductibles are going up, people are losing their policies, they are losing their doctors. Those supporters of obama care are saying that we republicans, we conservatives dont have solutions. I would encourage them to look at all the bills that republicans have filed in the house and the senate. But of course, these democrats who support obama care arent going to read their own bills. So why would we expect them to read ours. Conservatives believe in affordability and access yibblet. And accessibility. If you want to keep your doctor, you may have to change your congressman. Personal courage is about stopping common core. [applause] i believe in higher standards, but common core is not the answer. Personal courage is polishing the i. R. S. And reforming our tax code. Personal courage is loyaly standing with our strongest allies in the world like israel instead of trying to kiss the rings of leaders of countries who hate america. [applause] we need personal courage of elected officials who are willing to make tough decisions, even if it means they may lose their next election. What is more important your airmanships, your Office Spaces . The people who elected you to serve in the first place. [applause] never forgetting about the principles and values that the people who put their trust and their faith in you expect you to honor with integrity every day on the job. Fellow patriots, you want to change washington . [cheers and applause] we are not going to be able to make a difference unless we are able to convince our families and friends to stand up and fight for everything that brings you here for this conference. We leave cpac and return to our little corners of this very diverse country, inspired to elect new leaders with a stronger voice and a fresh perspective. We cannot change washington unless we change some of the people we send there to represents us. Cheers and applause] i am very grateful for the american conservative institution for this invitation to speak on the cpac stage. I want to thank all of you for leading the fight to protect our constitution, our freedoms, and our liberties. We believe in america. We believe in the future of america. E believe in the need for more government, the need for more principled leadership. Thank you for your patriotism and your convictions. God bless this nation that we all love. Proudly serve, and call our home. Thank you, and god bless you. Cheers and applause] it will all be clear ladies and gentlemen, please welcome ralph pollo, Political Editor at Washington Times. The trouble it might drag you down you get lost you will always be found the cheap seats are jammed and the premium seats arent. What does that tell you about the Republican Party and the conservative movement. Thats something you didnt already know. This is an exciting panel. This is a peek into the future. Two strategists. One is from the Republican Party on the right, and then the other everyone knows. They all remember him when clinton was the president. Former president clinton was having difficulty with his cadell was e, and out there bashing him, even though he was a democratic. If you look out there now, one site says he left the Democratic Party in 1988. Another site says he is a democratic pollster. So we are going to embarrass him when he comes out here and ask him, what is it . If hes a democrat bashing democrats . F not, well let you know. Let me tell you a little about myself. I was chief Political Correspondent for the Washington Times until this moment, because im about to leak to you the results of the Washington Times cpac poll. Have you ever gotten a leak before . You have . I didnt say take, i said got, received. I hope youre seated. Everybody seated . You want to be seated for this. One, cpac attendees are skeptical, according to this oll, about barack obama. I thought youd be shocked. The next shocker, and this gaply is, there is a gender between among cpac attendees. I will just say that. Just as there is a gender gap theywhere else, even though number of people who claim to be girls and boys in america is bout the same. Those are the two leaks. I want to thank you. What im going to do, is im going to move you over there and im going bring out pat cadell and ok. [applause] when is he coming out . There he is. Im going to sit in the center, you take the seat to the right. Pat, are you there . Pats over in the house. K. Ok. I think ive told you something about these guys, but im going to ask for a very brief statement from each of them. How do you want to be thought of. Y people today right now i just want them to hear what i have to say and understand that im trying to present something new to them. What do you want your audience to think of you as . Well, at the end of my career, as i look back on it, ive worked with a lot of really impressive political leaders and strong conservatives. Weve worked with marco rubio since he was at astrik against charlie crist. I will tell you, hes i would love to be known as marco end of ollster at the my career. By the way, anyone who wants cpay news do it to hashtag hallow. Everybody got that . Hello . All right. Thank you. Now, youre going to take us down the road to the future, right . Yes. You are going to do that by presenting pictures. Yes. If we could call the slides up and take a quick look at whats happening to america in the future, and well take a look at the challenge facing conservatives as we go forward. While they are calling them up. Let me thank you all for showing up here. It is 63 degrees, the best day weve had in washington in six weeks, and you are in here listening to this panel. I tell you, thats hard core. I tell you what, i really do appreciate it. Lets look at the challenges facing conservatives as we go forward here. This is the 2012 president ial election by racial category. On the far left, you will see that mit romney won a landslide among white, not hispanic, white voters. He won a higher percentage of whites than Ronald Reagan won in 1980 when he beat jimmy carter. If you look across the other way, you will see the africanamerican vote which was almost unanimous for barack obama, you will next see the hispanic vote which was overwhelming, some 72 for barack obama. You will see the asian vote which was more than the hispanic vote for barack obama. Asians voted for bob dole in 1996, but they voted overwhelmingly for barack obama. Then you see the other side of the chart which will tell you races other than white voted overwhelmingly for barack obama. Now, this is a problem. Why is this a problem . This is a problem because hispanics are the Fastest Growing Minority Group in the country, and they have voted generally for democrats, but the argin is varying dramatically. It makes a huge difference whether you get a gigantic margin or small margin, particularly in states like florida, colorado, nevada, new mexico, georgia increasingly, North Carolina increasingly. We see mit romney got the lowest percentage of the hispanic vote in any race since watergate. You see that peak for the red is george w. Bush in 2004 winning not only 44 of the hispanic vote nationally but a majority of the hispanic vote in the sunbelt states. Some conservatives are discouraged about the prospect of winning hispanic votes for conservatives and republicans. George w. Bush has sean how to do it as has kerry and many Texas Republicans demonstrated how you could do it. How did he do it . He reached out aggressively in the Hispanic Community, he campaigned in hispanic communities, he advertised on impanic tv, he supported gration immigration reform, and he spoke a version of spanish, sort of like he spoke a version of english. He proved it can be done. Why is that important . The percentage of the National Electorate that is white is declining at an increasing rate. This chart goes back to 1976 when pat caddell was running a president ial campaign for jimmy carter. 88 of the electorate was white. 16 years later when bill clinton was elected, it was also overwhelmingly white, down to 83 , though, up 5 decline in the end of that period. The second 16 years, from 1996 up to 2012 whites went from 83 down to 72 . So they declined five Percentage Points in the first period, 11 Percentage Points in the second period. Whites are declining at an increasing rate in the electorate. Now, weve got some good news. Were going to have a great 2014. Were going to hold the house, were going to pick up the senate. Its going to be a great 2014. [applause] this is a panel. A couple more, ralph. It is going to be rather than 72, it is going to be about 75 or 76 . This is a chart of americans alive today by age. If you look at this, the oldest people are on the far left, and you will see who are seniors are overwhelmingly white. As you go to the right, you will start to see on the far righthand side of the chart, americans alive today who are age 5 and under. That is 52 white, not 88 . And a quarter of the kids alive today in america are hispanic. About 15 are africanamerican. All you have to do is take this chart and have the yungser people replace the older people and youll see a revolution thats going to occur. This is a census chart for whats going to happen over the next 50 years. And the top line is the percentage of the population that is nonhispanic white. 62 on the left hand side of the chart. You will see the red is hispanic. You will see that growing dramatically. Many of you are young people. Many of you, when your kids are getting ready to reply to college, whites will be a minority in the United States population. So what does that mean for conservatives . For me, i think its an opportunity. Some people see it as a problem. I see it as a real opportunity. Why . Because improving our condition and those of our families is endemic in the human spirit. Thats why people still struggle to get to america, to get an opportunity to better themselves. New immigrants, believe it or not, are the single most hopeful and optimistic people about america moving forward. This is a panel. Lets go, lets move it. This is a free market, limited government, and reduction in taxation appeal to all people regardless of race, color, religion, or national origin. Conservatives can be very successful in the new america if we reach out and adopt an inclusive tone, bring people into our coalition, and aggressively campaign in their communities. Thank you very much. [applause] pat, what did we just hear . Im going to go talk. Im going to do what i came here to do, and then well discuss whatever you want. [laughter] i think of myself as the moderator of the panel still. Good. Pat, what do you want to talk about . Ive us a little interaction. Let me do two things. First of all, im glad to be here. Ive never been an opening act for sarah palin. I never imagined that in my life. I was here last year and caused some problems because i attacked the republican consultant lobbyist class as a rack tearing rackateering operation that looted the system. I just want to say, i dont want to reprize that other than to say. If they understand one ning, if they just hold if they understand one thing, if they just hold on, they will get the money back. So the people that lost to me to lose are willing as long as they can preserve their situation are now in charge of your great hopes for 2014. But now their new strategy is just to say this is to stand for nothing. It is what i call the surreppeder caucus. Im on a show of political insiders on sunday nights, 7 30, on fox news, and we talk about this all the time. The decision not to contest spending all of the issues, the debt limit, and essentially have barack obama produce a budget which he pulled back everything, the notion has been if we say nothing and do nothing we will win in 2014. To lose ell of a way and it has repercussions. I want to say a quick word about my own party because im sort of an apostate for both of them. I want to say this. What im appalled at i describe the two parties, as some of you know, as the corrupt party and the stupid party. Actually they have a lot in common. Jonathan turlic got up, a liberal democratic and law professor. He said, listen, i believe with Barack Obamas programs, but you have no right to discard the constitution. Were at a constitutional tipping point. Heres the dog thats not barking. What bothers me is, where was everyone else . No one else speaks up. Ive seen this on benghazi and my party on the i. R. S. It should be something that frightens people. Most of all in economics. The people that pay the biggest price under prm are the very basis of his coalition which is blacks, hispanics, women and young people have had the greatest loss of income. An issue enough people are able to manage. But this gets to the two parties. I want to touch on a couple as it relates to conservative republicans. One is the rule of law. When harry reed decided to have a nuclear option, which he, president obama, joe biden, and everyone else opposed when the republicans were trying to do it some years ago, as i did, opposed it because he shouldnt overthrow the constitution. If a president basically decides, as jonathan said, that he can rule by fiat without the constitution, something even a majority of democrats oppose, let me tell you what the republicans didnt do. The Republican Leadership in the senate, led by mitch mcconnell, as i call him the ambrose burnside. You have to know he was the worst civil war general of all. Managed to lose constantly. But as long as the republicans say, well, we dont like this, but we cant wait to get it. Sometimes you have to stand up for the country. The republicans in the senate could have shut the senate down and said, we will not function, you cannot function without unanimous consent in the operation of that body, and they could have said, we will stand up for the constitution and stand up for principle, and they didnt. And they never do. [cheers and applause] obama care, lets not say anything and everything will work out for us. There is no alternative. There is no Party Position the way there was in 1994, which worked quite well, a contract for america. A Republican Party that says, heres an alternative. It just presumes that you can get by with doing what you wish. Look, i mean, and the lack of a narrative, a consistent narrative. When the president got up and said, you can keep your health care program, keep the insurance if you like, it was the greatest lie of the new century. [cheers and applause] by the way, the American People have come to expect this. By 21 americans say, politicians today lie about everything, big or small, and it is not like they are just fibbing like they did in the past, it is threatening democracy, just like a large majority believe the rule of law is in danger in this country and the democracy. The two issues i want to speak to are the i. R. S. This is, as i said a week ago, the Republican Leadership is happy with the i. R. S. Going after the tea parties. Cant anybody figure this out . Because they are threatened by them just as democrats would be threatened by outsiders. Thats why boehner there is no special Committee Investigating government abuse. They can just occasionly do these things. Again, if they were serious about the i. R. S. , which is a threat to every american, without regard to party, because my god that is a slippery slope, imagine whats going to happen in the future with other president s. But i will tell you this, they didnt move to defend the i. R. S. Anymore than they did to take it out of obama care. The country doesnt think they should be in it either. They let the woman who gave money to obama and they let the stuff movement to give money to obama, and they let it go on because the lobbyists in the republican establishment wanted it to go on. Finally on national tv i said the other day, that putin has taken his measure of barack obama. On political insiders the week before he did it, we predicted he would invade, which no one else is doing. I said this is sudan all over again, which we dont have time for a history lesson. Nothing tells you what is nothing tells you more whats wrong with the political establishment in this country than benghazi. I believe john boehner cares about his country, but apparently it is fourth or fifth on his list. When you have 108 members of the Republican Caucus demanding a session look, this isnt about politics, it is about the truth. The central truth not addressed is where was the president that night . [cheers and applause] secondly, who invented the talking points . They did not descend from heaven from some fairy godmother. [cheers and applause] let me just say this. You know who i blame for this . Not boehner and the political leadership. The people i blame are you. The fact that 108 members are taking you for a ride. Pretending on one side, we are doing our best. They have 180 members. They can bring in the speaker, mr. Rogers, mr. Mccarthy and say, either put in a special committee or you are gone tomorrow. [cheers and applause] if they were serious. They are not serious. This is the problem with our politics. Part of the benghazi story is, u know, if the real bob woodward were alive, this never would have happened. There are people even on my network, fox, who poopoo benghazi. This is about the truth. It is about dead americans. Twothirds of the American People believe there should be a select committee, and 60 of democrats believe there should be. So you have to ask yourself, what the hell is going on here . [applause] the answer is, the Political Class does not want it. Im here to tell you, and i want to react now to what the future is. We have a system designed, we are told, that only have liberals and conservatives, democrats and republicans on a very flat axis. What im telling you, there are different paradigms. I will give you the first. The first was syria. Remember when the president said dont cross the red line. Now i have to go to war and i dont want to do it. The Republican Leadership and democratic leadership all united to support the president. And the American People, democrats and republicans across the board rose up and said, the hell you will, and stopped it. It was not an organized mosme movement. They just stopped it. We see the same thing with the n. S. A. Where we have the political elite establishment, the Lindsey Grahams and everyone else saying how great it is they are spying on you, and the young people across the country in particular saying, this is appalling. We dont have that happening. There is a new paradigm. For several months since september i have been involved in a research project. Not a poll, but a project, exploring if there is another politics coming. Im not here today to go through it. I will tell you this, in that black bag that blue bag, which soon will be a black bag, is what i call the candidate smith project. Candidate smith is about a whole new organization of politics. It is based on the 80 of the American People who believed American Dream is harder to attain. Twothirds of americans who believe the system is rigged for those if you are trying to work hard, you cant achieve the American Dream because the system is rigged. And the twothirds of americans who now believe that if you work hard, you cant succeed, you cant make it. You cant change yourself. This violates everything we believe about america. Most importantly, more than 65 of the American People who believe their children will have a lesser future than they had. The religious fenet of our civic religion is you give to your children better than you had. I said before, if you kill that idea, there will still be there will still be a nice state, but there will be no america. That idea existed before there was a national government. [cheers and applause] that vision of what to do im going to read you a conclusion about what ive been working on. Because the alienation level, the American People believe that the system is rigged, that it is corrupt. These numbers are higher and i started this 40 years ago. In the 08 almost 90th per sen tile, at least twothirds believe the system is rigged. That we need real democracy and real free enterprise. That the Political Class works against the people. And threequarters of the American People believe that the government in washington does not operate with the consent of the people. That is a prerevolutionary moment. [applause] i want to quote you the difference of the reality between the current american structure where the American People is not necessarily a casm to be bridged. We are dealing with a new political universe that reflects the current condition and another alternate universe, the American People who totally reject that and desire a total refashioning of the duct of this nations political life and yern yearn for true reform. They want a resurgence of america. They understand if you dont fix this political system which is corrupt and broken and serve the people within it, you will never deal with any of the problems you care about. They will never get solved. The corruption has to be rooted out because it is. Ing poisoning the country. We need to return to the com to the dominant true ideology of the American People, which is common sense. I am telling you from 65 to 75 of the American People are and the to enlist indicates say you can win it with the right things to do as a democrat, republican, or independent. I will tell you what they also say. To the Political Class and to the media and those in the establishment who dominate this country, there is a message. The message is that people are coming, and they are coming for you. The question is whether we are going to do that, have that in a positive way that gives resurgence to our values to a country or whether in 2040 or even before then we are going to be visited by a politics, i gaurpt none of you in this room wish to have. But that moment is at hand. And it is every 40 years we have change, but i am telling you, this is as big a moment as it was prior to the civil war. And the change were looking at will be zife decisive. The people in this room, and the American People, whatever they came to be, who live outside t beltway and outside that are ready to reclaim their country, because they have to. Cheers and applause] wow. Look at this. [applause] if these two guys were contestants, i would say caddell would have won . Oh, you were very good. I dont care what you say, you ere great. Lets talk about what these guys talked about. If demographics are the future of where elections are going to go, demographics destiny, if thats true, and you can accept it is not true this country, if you live into the 2014040s in the United States, you will be living in a socialist america. This is something Neither Party or consultants will tell you, with all due respect, because it ruins their living. But to believe that asians and hispanics vote democratic in such overwhelming numbers because they really want to in the kind of tough lines that conservatives give, hat is you are on your own investors, you really cant help yourself, the community should be helping you, that line is not going to work, i dont think anyone in this room actually believes that the reason george w. Bush won hispanics was he purchase swayeded hispanics that the capitalist model was the best model. Plenty of hispanics come to this country because they want the capitalist model. And they do very well. Obviously thats true of asians. But if you are looking at big numbers, look at way the vote going. Gog what does that tell you . That tells you you are going to hear from the republicans, and maybe from dr. Caddell here, that if the republicans simply go out and appeal directly to that the and asians republicans will win them over. Lets face it. The people that already believe selfreliance were of hispanic or asian origin already feel that way. Thats why they came here. Others came here for a mixture of reasons. They wanted opportunity, but they believed that it is a welfare state. The welfare state that the United States is. Does anyone here deny this is a welfare state . Dont think so. Where does this go . I would love to hear someone ell me how the inevitible caste of socialism can be stopped. Do i see any hands . Yes, right here. Because what people want is exactly what many people who have wanted and have come to america for centuries have wanted. They want an opportunity to succeed. They want an opportunity to get a good education. They want an opportunity to better their lot, and socialism does not do that, ralph. Socialism does not do that. It is the free market that creates that opportunity. Why are they voting democrat . We havent reached out to them. You are saying, if they dont like you, they are not likely to vote for you. We want all kinds of people of different races, different creeds, different back grounds our coalition, in centerright coalition. We know what we want. How are we going to get it . Let me just jump in here. You can never win them. This is the failure of the Republican Party. When you convince people that you are against them and you are not for them, they are not going to vote for you. The fact of the matter is, when i talk about the candidates, the overwhelming majority single women, black people, hispanics people want the American Dream, but if you cant articulate a vision when you have 94 of the American People that believe that the economic policies of both parties have failed and do not deliver opportunity and better jobs because they dont whats get feathered is the top whether colonialism or the people of money. When a party begins to speak to people with passion as opposed to preserving arrangements, thats how you change it. And the way things are going, the voters are going to vote for at least someone who at least claims to be for them. [applause] i want to agree with pat so desperately, and in a way i do, because the future lies with the Republican Party. We already know where the Democratic Party is taking us. We know where the Republican Party says it wants to take us. But every time a republican ffice holder, a ted cruz, or a paul rand, or mike lee stands up die trying, g to knowing that hes going to lose, to explain to the electorate what republican conservative capitalist values are, the party unites against him. Makes fun of him, says hes razy or shes crazy. The press does the same thing. And then everyone believes if the Republican Party stands up for individual responsibility, they will take the party down with them. So if the Republican Party is the only hope for the future, and its office holders, its leadership insists on demonizing, ridiculing fellow republicans who stand up for principle, then where is the future . Socialism. I have to descend on the belief that either the Republican Party will perform itself, or it will go the way of the wind. Im sorry. There will be some other coalition to speak to what is there. You cannot continue to suppress the dissent in america which is what the political establishment from both parties does. You are right. When people do stand up for principle, the Republican Party then lays down on the debt and the spending limit. They do not even protect military pensions from the mistakes they made because they decided if we just lay down and surrender, we will win. You know what . The problem is, when i talk about candidate smith, you know what . More than 60 of republicans are willing to leave their Party Immediately for a better alternative. It is not about parties. It is about your country. [applause] let me just say this, the Political Class in this downtown, in this beltway, has engorged itself by looting the country and our political system. Let me tell you one thing. They put party ahead of country. They put politics ahead of principle, and they put their privileged axis ahead of their patriotism. Until you replace that, what Party Matters . Cheers and applause] i think we would agree that pat caddell has caught the tenor of these times, at least in this room. Pat, you and i are not going to agree on this, but i hope you are right. It is a lot more positive than you think, ralph. I hope so. Thank you. That quind of music that kind of music just soothes the soul i recommend niss about the days of toled old with that old time rock n roll ladies and gentlemen, please welcome tammy larue, deputy ditor at the Washington Times. Great. Hi, everybody. Well, this is a fabulous cpac, isnt it . Are you guys ready to take this nation back . Yeah, yeah. Sure, there are politics and partisanship, and you are republicans or maybe you are independent, but this is about the future of your family, it is about the future of the country, it is our generation that will take this nation back and well take it back for the next 100 years. [applause] from the panel you hear all the time the group trying to divi up one group against the other. It is women against men, blacks against gays, dogs against cats, right . Well, you will know these women. They are working in a variety of ways. Political think tanks. Arena. E in the they are the ones that make a difference. How many of you here are fighting for this country because of your mother . How about for your sister . How about for yourself . [applause] this is it. When our lives get better as women, everybodys lives get better, right . When the world wants reform, it turns to women, and there is a reason for that, balls f our understanding of the because of our understanding of the quality of everyones lives. How many of you have loved ones serving in the military . Ou know you want a commanderinchief that has a set of rules that allowed your loved one to kill the enemy when they can, dont you . Its funny how its been the ys who have been kind of infantiizing this situation. We know about babies and how they grow up and save freedom for the world. We understand about the economy. You want your children to live under their own roof for a long time, not in the back seat of your car, right . You know if you want to take your child to the doctor its going to be a pediatrician, it is not going to be a Community Health care center that takes three months to get an appointment when you dont know what is wrong with your child. If the left and the liberals watching this program it probably would be helpful if i stood still for a minute, are all excited because they sea some weak men running the party, you had better put your seat belt on for the conservative women who will take this country back. Cheers and applause] are you going to stand next to those women you live . We are the ones who are going to do it. Let me introduce you to this panel who are the kind of women who have been fighting for you, fighting for you now, and who will. Deal with commentary. Help shape public opinion, and enter the arena themselves. First of all, sabrina schaefer. Shes executive director of the conservative womens magazine, a contribute tore to forbes magazine. R background is in political behavior, her values are conservative government. There is sabrina right there. I toll told you to put on your seat belts. Crystal wright. Some would say she is a triple threat. A woman, a black woman, and a republican leading in a maledominated city of washington, d. C. , a communications consultant, ditor and publisher of conservative black chick. Com. Will you remember that name . And of course, you can readier townhall. Com. Crystal wright. Another woman thats been working to save this nation, kate obenchain. She is Vice President of the she was chairman of the Republican Party of virginia and was the first woman to serve in that post from 20012002. She is on the beffs of the clare booth campaign. And a young woman who is in the arena. Mary linda garcia. She serves in the New Hampshire house of representatives. The Republican National committee named her a rising star just last year. Shes a candidate again. Shes running for New Hampshires second Congressional District in the upcoming mid terms. Which, by the way, as i move over here to manage this conversation. Do all of you remember 2010 . Oh, yeah. Women for the first time in ages voted in a majority for conservative candidates. We mattered in that election. We took that election. We will take 2014 as well with the help of these women. Thats right. If theyre smart. I have a few comments from each of the women here, and then well have our own little discussion. All right. So sabrina, we were talking earlier about the nature of your work and what happen matters. Re look, we have a panel on women. The left brings us news of the war on women. What is it about gender differences . We need to start thinking and talking seriously to women. We have to realize thats not playing gender politics. So many conservatives respect that men and women are different. How many of you have kids. I have two girls, i have a son, they are different. The girls love their pretty in pink couture. My son will kick anything within a oneinch radius of him. In normal life we embrace these differences. When it comes do the political sphere, we forget all about it. The way men and women respond to messages, the way they think about things, their intrinsic values, they are going to be different. Thats ok. Were equal, but were different. We are going to be able to expand. I have so many questions in my head already. Whether we think of differences are agry, crystal, there so many questions we have, but we also know we have to focus on the need to take the nation back as a whole. To do that, of course, it involves elections. What about women and the vote. We know that in 2010, for midterm, women voted as i majority for conservatives. They werent organized to do it, nobody told them to do it. We did it because we knew it was important. What about this upcoming vote . The Republican Party does not have a great history with women as we saw from the last president ial election. Mitt romney lost by 10 Percentage Points. I think it is an optics problem that the Republican Party has. Why do we continue to allow men to talk about our issues child rearing, reproductive rights, children in the home. Why do we have men in the party talking in not great terms that is not helpful when you are talking about rain and spontaneous abortions, im not going to revisit the names of these folks. You see great women on this stage right now. We can talk very well about womens issues because were moms, were independent business women, were running for office. I think at a basic minimum, it is an optics situation. We have great women in congress. We only have 19 women serving in the house of representatives. We have governors. We have, like, four senators. Why wont the Republican Party get it . Let the women put our face out there for petes sake. Otherwise, guys, ive got news for you, the demographics of the country are changing. Women are in charge 410 households with kids under the age of 18 are headed by single women. We have to stop sending the sub limb nam message that you are better than people like me who dont have children. You know why im a conservative . Conserve tism empowers me to be whatever kind of woman i want to be. And thats the message we need to be sending. [applause] and thats a great point, and a great transition to the issue of messaging. For us as women, we are dealing with a dynamic here where the conservative ideal is the thing that allows people to litch live the lives that we want to live, that best suits us as individuals. None of us are the same. We are all going to make different kinds of choices. It is only the conservative ideal that allows that. For you, kate, when it comes to messaging and on ticks shall and optics, what do you say . I think a lot of the problem is, with this war on women, a lot of people think it has run its course. Thats our head in the sand, folks. It works, it works really well. Just in virginia Ken Cuccinelli lost by 10 points, and he lost on the war on women attacks. We have the ideas on our side. In the majority we articulate the ideas effectively, but there is a vacuum when it comes to womens issues. If women in america think republicans and conservatives hate them, they are not going to vote for them. It doesnt matter what they believe on economic policies or anything else. If we are mysoginists, which is how we are being portrayed by Hillary Clinton and the left, they are not going to vote for us. I hope every candidate for 2014 takes note of this. Every time a womens issue is mentioned, an attack, a vicious baseless attack, you know what our guy did . He did not respond. The message from the consultants was dont talk about it. For one thing, women dont care, they dont want to hear you talk about it. You have to respond when someone hurls vicious invectives against you. Violence against women act. Prime example. If someone says the candidate is opposed to the violence against women act and he comes back and starts talking about economic policy, thats just hanging out there. Wait a minute, he doesnt care about women being safe . What we need to do is come back and say, actually, i believe in genuine protection against violence to women. I dont believe in payoffs to the trial lawyers which is what the violence against women act is all about. And this is my proposal for effectively combating violence against women. Lets talk effectively, but p dont leave the myth hanging out there. [applause] i think we all know, if cpac, it is ound at least 50 women. [applause] have you seen the young people also . The reason there is an attempt to cast women in this way is they know women matter. They know you will vote for your peam family and the economy. They know you dont think, oh, smoke pot now, too bad were not living in the back seats of our cars. All generations, whether it is about health care, the economy, or anything else. And its interesting, because now we go to you, mary linda. The nature of not only that men are running, but perhaps not even being advised by women. Here you have talk about the number of women in office. You have an interesting story about look, you are a young woman, you are a minority woman. You ran, you are running again. How did that work for you . Sure. As a College Student i had my Republican Values firmly intact. I believe in personal responsibility, individual liberty, freedom, that our country is exceptional, all of those good things i think resident 2016. President. We got her right here. And my basic Civic Responsibility in my mind was to vote and help elect candidates and get involved in campaigns for those 0 people that represent my values. So when i graduated from college i thought let me get involved in a Midterm Election. Who needs help . My takeaway, and what i try to do now is point out that someone at that point suggested to me, wait a minute, instead of helping on someones campaign, why dont you run. The thought had never crossed my mind before. There is a lot of data from the private sector to the Public Sector that women on average are less likely than men to ask for a rage raise, ask for a promotion, and run for office. Men apparently are born thinking, you know, i should be president. Women are busy doing all the important things they do, and then fall into it because they are passionate about an issue or whatever the case may be. My story is, i ran, and then rough that, of course, i had the school necessary that so many conservative women do. I am now on my fourth term i have been very involved now going on eight years. [applause] and what i found was that working on the reforms ive been able to actually achieve and continue to work on in my state. My federal representative is frankly part of what is a very adverse saral Central Government were all familiar with. So i thought, you know what . Now is the time to stop the obstacles from my states mandated t from being down from office. So i began to run for congress gainst my congresswoman. [applause] thank you for all that. I think we have a general sense here that these are women you are familiar with, you can relate to them. This is not unusual. There are powerful women everywhere. The 2010 election really was while the tea party was important in that, women were leading tea party, but more than that, it was that messaging from women to the rest of the country and to the rest of the women. Sabrina rvings lets open up for the rest of the conversation. Let me put this out there. We know what the problem is. We know there is some weird attempt by people to that they think these things can be controlled by polls or someone has a strategy or there is some genius out there, the einstein of politics is going to explain how to speck to women. Isnt it about how inherently we understand what those messages are . Sa britainia, is that sabrina, is that part of what your message is . Yes and no. I think if you look ot on the list, we are outspent by people like emilys list, womens voices, womens vote, and the list goes on and on. The amount of resources they have, we are like a little pill bug compared to the big gorilla. Emilys list raised 52 million in 2012. They have invested not only resources, but over a decade of serious social sivense research into how to reach women. I dont think you need to necessarily go to those lengths. There is a lot we can just guess at, but we are not in a position to guess anymore. I think we are in a position to find out what actually moves women. I can tell you from research that the independent womens reform, men and women dont espond the same. They might want the same thing. When you talk to women about preserving Social Security, thats what gets them to want to cut back on spending, because they want that security. Thats where we go as women, though. Any of you can chime in. We already know about the economy, we have been handling the pocket book, we have been handling about safety for families, because it is our children that go to war, we worry about the pay checks, the bank account, your Health Insurance has gone up. Will you be able to pay the rent. Isnt this what women already know . It is, but i think it goes back to what kate said. We go back to the 2012 political election when president obama actresses, ing female he was presenting the life of julia as the panacea as the golden apple that all women want. What did we do . Mitt romney and the rest of conservative men were silent. We have a stage full of bright women. I would say, do you really want to be dependent on government . To your point, tammy, the economic policies of independent empowerment work whether you are a woman, minority, whether you are a gay person or a straight person. We are not fundamentally talking about pushing back on government dependency in this messaging. And i would say, there is money there. The Koch Brothers i understand we need to do research, and i agree with what sabrina is saying but the Koch Brothers are putting out what, 30 Million Dollars in the Midterm Election . So there is money there, but they are not ute liesing utilizing the talents we have. There was a recent poll that found 555 of americans think the g. O. P. Does not understand women. When you poll women alone, all women regardless of party affiliation, it goes to like 60 of women in america think that we dont understand women. Im going to Say Something thats probably going to upset people, but i have to put it out there, part of it is basicly obvious. How did we start this . With one gender representing the republican conference. Thats how we kicked this off on thursday. We shouldnt have all the women stacked up on one day. I think it is great we have women, but we need to mix it up a little bit, because until people start seeing that women and minorities see themselves in the fashion of the minority, we are not going to win elections. [applause] i think this is the kind of thing, for you watching at home, and for you here, this is not a speck at a timer sport, is it . This is not a we need everybody to understand. Fore statistics are damning conservatism. If women do not think that we represent them, we have to do something about that. I know where a lot of folks are coming from. I wouldve said i am not talking differently to women. I am a conservative. Im not doing what the left does. I have changed on that. Women think that we do not represent them. We need to change how we talk to women. We need to think about our messaging. Our way directly reaching out to women . Some of the issues that we dont hit on our the best issues. Gun control. To bent your daughters defenseless on College Campuses . Use those issues. It is a womans issues. Well run away from it. Running for office, how women need a little extra push. She is right. When i was chairman of the Republican Party, i started the womens leadership training program. , 25 successful women, would consider running for office . One tiny hand went up. ,fter eight months of training i said how many, every hand shot up proudly in the air. We need women to run for office. That is the key. We have the message. We lack the messenger. Not because they do not exist. They are busy doing other things ouralue in society and in public sphere. What we have to do is say can you take that, channel that, and run for office . It is not an artificial thing where you say we need a woman to use her face. Want. S not what we but we want is we want to take the pool of talent we have, and empower those women and plant the seeds. Ask them to run. We have to back them up. They are going to be attacked more viciously than male candidates. Men have to be packing them up men have to be backing them up. Whether you like them or not. Secondguessys ourselves. Whether it is to ask a boss for a raise. We dont want to take a leadership role because we are socialized not to. What i say is, when the women ofy get the 26 contributions. Pull out those wallace. Give them five dollars. What is five dollars . A gallon of ice cream. We are going to learn how to reach these women. It is the superstars that take this country back. 2010 and focusing on a midterm coming up, women made that historic revolution happen. Women led tea party. Effectively the stakeholders of the country speaking about economic issues. About our families. How well that translate to 2014 . It is a visceral kind of response then maybe polling can give us or strategy sessions can give us. What about that point of view of women at the ground level when it comes to what we understand . You are right. In 2010 it was the first time in 20 years we saw the gender gap close. This scare democrats. It is going back to the message and addressing these issues, not running way from them. Ive are member early on the governor romney was presented bettere question of the pay act. He was unprepared. Most, 99 of republican candidates are still unprepared to answer that question. They are unprepared to talk about the wage gap. They think maybe there is a grain of truth to it. There is a gap. It is not . 77 to the dollar. If there is a gap. Discrimination exists. Class that victim need constant Government Protection . No. We have to wrap our minds around this. Getting comfortable with it. We still have a lot of that. Is in the the difference between the conservative message and the liberal message. Things are difficult, women are required for reform, we are not moving forward as victims. We are moving forward as congress, versus the liberal attitude of wanting Big Government to infantilize us and take care of us. Isnt that the difference . That is the message. Message they use with blacks. Blacks cant advance without nanny government. That, why didbat mitt romney just say that . Seesurrogates, why did we women out there for him saying im insulted that he thinks i to juliett . Julia never had a man in her life. She had a baby out of wedlock. This is where we win. We talk about the value of marriage. Not to say that sometimes divorce happens. When you talk about the benefits and tax families when it comes to minority women. Is, heritage did , if you areund this born, the power of marriage to give children the foothold in this world, it is irreplaceable. Two parents are going to make sure the child does the homework and graduate through high school. We know the advantages to that. When a woman has a baby out of wedlock, she will never earn as much as a woman who is married. Why arent we, that is our platform . We are for the family. We should talk about these issues in a compassionate way. Education. Young, single moms getting kids out of failing schools. It is not educational empowerment. School choices and vouchers. The Justice Department is trying to kill the Voucher Program. This is the connection. We want personal freedom. Financial freedom. That these are the kinds of connections that make that possible. I want to follow up on that with you. In the sense of when we talk about these things that are relevant to every woman regardless of party or complexion, sexual orientation, whoever you are, these things matter. Both of you are in the arena. What makes the difference . Women advising candidates . Women running . Difference for a the man or the woman . It is not just any woman. It is the right woman. A man. Amen. This is about the right woman who understands economic freedom. Had we break free from this problem that is articulated here . You make a great point. We are not appear saying we just had to get any women faces up here on the stage. We are talking about conservative women who carry forth a message. One thing we are talking about about defending our self in a positive message of freedom, explain to them what we think of them as more than the sum of their body parts, but actually this is one of my favorite things. We need to go on offense. We need to attack. High. Are at an alltime we need to point out the destruction of the leftist policies on the family, on women in particular. A lot of times we can sound insensitive to single women read this or divorced women. We can be rough. We need to be pointing out the fact that the air the economic circumstances are being decimated by barack obama. He is intentionally doing that. Alltime high poverty rate for single women. Lack of opportunity for getting a job because of businesses not hiring. Lets talk about how this impacts individual women. We have to be advising our male candidates how to talk about these things. We cannot have any stupid comments this year. You might think youre being funny. It might be kind of funny. Think before you make of noxious comments. Can it be used to play in the war on women launcher . We need to we do not have control of the media. Outlets, butat unfairg it is an playing field. You are in the field. You are in the arena. How is this you are going to sarah palin appear in a little bit. [applause] there is a reason why women candidates resonate. You are in that arena. How you are as a result, a role model, youre not a bureaucrat. How does this translate . This is about power ladies. This is about power and how we want to exercise it. How is that affected you in your work . I had an instance when i first entered the race. 24 hours of mine filing, i was attacked on twitter from a democratic colleague. Making references to me in my physical appearance, and things like that. I had a fundraising letter come out from and custer, my representative that im trying to defeat. Andy dietrich will see. Because ofted on me my values. We know that it is because of what i am body. , theay i responded to that reason people are upset with gridlock in washington, and the lack of the people up there. All of these things that they say. Well, why as a society particularly coming from the left in someone like me jumps into the race, why do they attack us . On petty and personal things. This is the reason why good people do not run for office. This is the reason why women do not run for office. Who wants to deal with that kind of thing . Youraise a quite raise a great point. Erika harold had awful thing said about her. Because they were women and women of color. Wantdo this because they you out of these races. You break the stereotypes that minorities are supposed to be beholden to. In slaves to the democrat party. For the last six years for instance. When we are talking about, it is not just women, but where the men in our party in leadership . They need to come out quickly and swiftly. Did theyernham ever defend Michele Bachmann . It is never funny to talk about right and laugh. Talk about rape and laugh. Women do not want to run. It is going to discourage them. We need leadership to condemn this. [applause] im sorry. The actions need to be called out. Then it has to be said that this isnt about victimization. You are just saying that this has to stop. Represent the end to that. Im going to keep fighting. It doesnt matter what people say about me. Support i gotng back was wonderful from across the country. We will go to you on this. This is beyond ourselves. Into anto move uncomfortable zone in finding our better selves and are more aggressive cells. Threatens orou are your home is in trouble, there is something in you that would frighten people. It is why the like sarah palin. Somewhere. Gun yet, this is also a difference. The powerful. To be in control of our lives. Being ash a smile, and attractive as we can possibly be. We dont have to get rid of our values or become like the left. We own our values. Then we use them to take the country back. Absolutely. I know were running low on time. To that point, we need to embrace the idea of fairness. The left doesnt own the idea of fairness. It is the best predictor of a woman support for Big Government. Gender, or than her age. Fairness andn of equal opportunity versus equal outcome is the best protector if she will support laws like paycheck fairness act. We need to talk about fairness. Is it fair that you cant you school yourge your child goes to. Is it fair we have a 17 trillion debt that is going to be settled on our children . We need to turn the conversation around. , mene a husband and father and women do not live in a vacuum. Is good for for me the minimize life and vice versa. We have to stand up for women. They are being beat up on stage. That is absurd. [applause] how can people find out about your work and what youre up to . Org. Sit iwf you can order it at the bookstore. Final words . We as a party, whether youre talking about women, men, straight people, gay people, i dont care what really need to be talking about what we are for at the Republican Party. Others have said this. I was sitting in the audience watching senator paul speak. I said next woman and i had a conversation about the things were talking about today. She felt alienated. She wanted she asked me what do i do question my chief ally had no power. So many in our party feel powerless. Get involved in your state party. I dont care what. Make notice. Your vote counts. Really, look at all of the great women here. We matter. We have to make our voice heard. We have to demand seats at the table. If we dont, we will not bring more young women in our party. We need young women. She is the future. I challenge you all. Get involved. Embrace young woman. Tell them what we are for. We are for you achieving the american achieving the dream. Government is not the way. Government is bankrupt. The piggy bank is bankrupt. If you want be a millionaire, you have to do it on your own. I think it is about conservatism, empowering women versus victimizing them. Reminding them that we are the ones in charge. That is what liberals do not want you to remember. You take this country back. Conservative black chicks. Com. Thank you my dear. Thatthink it is important we are wives and mothers, and daughters. Nobody needs to be threatened by any of this. Movement, i think you are clapping. Hope you get it. In order for conservatism to thrive and be the majority movement, to take over the thinking in our country, we have to embrace women as leaders. We have to elevate them. We have to support them. There are some many ways we can do that. By supporting good conservative movement organizations. Elevating, and encouraging young Women Leaders to get out there and take leadership roles. There are many of them. I mean it when i say we need by end. Particularly from groups like cpac. They are amazing. Buyin from the leadership in congress. We need more women as heads of committee. Where are these women who are incredible . Marsha blackburn, incredible. And server to woman in congress that should be out there when free contraception is being talked about. Let the women talk about these issues. We love older white men. We just have to promote our women in order to start resonating and listening to us. Where can people find you . Kate over shane kate obershain. Com. Excellent. I thank you for having me today. It has been wonderful. It is true. My job as a candidate and then hopefully having that National Platform and congress will be to point out that this administration is promoting equality of outcome. When the federal government does that, you are reducing everybody to the lowest common denominator. We need to be talking about what our country has offered. That is what we should be promoting. Equality of opportunity. That is a we are all about. [applause] is the genius of america. The defining characteristic of america. That we have an inherent and innovation. For we need to be able to apply that in a free society. I am working to win this race. My website is mary linda garcia. Com. I would love your support. Check me out. Maxes 2600. [laughter] look around this room. You are going to be looking at this stage the rest of the night. You get your fellow conservatives. Some of you are independence. Is crowdse is, it about this sides that take nations back. That create revolutions. Our Founding Fathers created a dynamic where we are able to have a revolutions quietly in the polling place. It is up to you her simile and how you view your selves, membrane that when people want for memory when you want reform they turn to women. Theo know what drives society. Family. Loved ones. Love. Being willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that the next is is one that you own, and safe for everyone you love. That is what the conservative ideal is. Individual freedom. Financial freedom. So that we as americans look to the future at something that we will design. And no one else. My thanks to everyone of these women and to you. [applause] i admire dr. Condoleezza rice. I had the opportunity to visit her at the white house and spend about 30 minutes. That was one of the most incredible privileges during that year. She is gracious. She is warm. She is sophisticated and brilliant. If i could be someone, i want to be dr. Condoleezza rice. I have been accepted to Harvard Law School and saw how much it was going to cost. I didnt have anywhere remotely near the amount of money. I had a Great College advisor who said if you want to go, find a creative way to pay for. I told my parents migrated way, im going to become miss america this year. I was crowned miss america and then went to harvard loss goal. I have always had a strong interest in the political process. I did neither would manifest. After graduating i began practicing law. Ever present a nonperfect i represent a nonfor profit group. When we look at what is wrong with our country right now, part of it is career politicians. So often what is wrong with our system is that people waste their turn. Leadership is not waiting your turn. It is when you feel a sense of urgency and you feel that you have a unique voice of perception that can change our country. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome erika harold, miss america 2003. Honoree. [applause] good evening. Good evening. I am extremely honored to have been included as one of the 10 under 40. I would like to take the americans conservative union for this. Each of us has our unique story as to how we became conservative. Im honored to share mine with you. I did grow up in the political home. I actually became a conservative when i was a College Student at the university of illinois. I recognize that college is not the place where most people become conservatives. I was studying Political Science in American History. I had opportunity to study our nations foundational documents for myself. The constitution. The declaration of independence. The federalist papers. I began to compare our country and our freedom with countries where the government has more centralized power. It quickly became apparent to me that those countries were left prosperous. Civil liberties are not protected. Countries like us, the country is more prosperous economically. Civil liberties are respected. I began to marvel at the genius of our constitution. I wasnt seeking to find a political philosophy. All of a sudden i realized i had one. I was a conservative. A constitutional conservative. [applause] i also realized how important it was when to ensure those principles are reflected in our government. One key example of this is in the arena of protecting religious freedom. Ant of my Legal Practice as attorney involved representing religious institutions and defending their First Amendment rights. I have seen all too often how some would try to silence religious groups from speaking in the Public Square and saying your participation has to be confined to the four walls of the church. Our First Amendment requires people of all faiths and no faith of all the freely permitted to speak. Our democracy and society suffers when those voices are silent. Ive also seen firsthand the positive role that faithbased groups can have in society. I see this in the work i have done in prison ministry. I have been involved for two years. I serve on the board of directors of the prison fellowship ministry. [applause] i have seen how transformative it is when people of faith are able to bring a message of hope into our prisons. I remember one experience in particular. I was asked to speak in a womens prison. I was invited to speak in a secure care did segregated housing unit. The warden was preparing us for what we would encounter. She said often times because the isolated situations and conditions, these inmates are going to be screaming and yelling. They will be screaming expletives at visitors. We were forced to wear jackets because they wanted us to be protected in case they decided to harm us. Ill be honest. I thought perhaps i didnt want to visit this unit. When yourfaced faith compels you to go, you just go. I walked into that unit. [applause] i was given the microphone. I shared the very simple powerful message of gods love and redemption. Course of the program, they were silent. As we finished, the only thing that were yelled at us were god bless you, thank you for coming, and thank you for not forgetting about us. [applause] in a society such as ours we understand it is not the role of government to impose religion. But by the same token, we know government should not interfere with the free exercise thereof. It must not prevent a message of life from being brought to such dark places. [applause] this desire to see constitutional principles restored to our government is what motivated me to get involved in politics. Whether it is preventing the nsa from encroaching on for the men that freedoms, or ensuring that the irs does not target rims based on ideological viewpoints, or ensuring the executive does not usurp congress power, i want to see the limited role of government maintained and freedoms respected. [applause] i also want to see that duringtal egos my political work, some told me that it is not your turn. The political establishment thought to drive me from my involvement. I refuse to step aside. Our country is built on the leadership of men and women who decided not to wait their turn. Who decided to speak truth to power. Even when that power was within their own party. [applause] it must always be this way for each new generation of conservatives and patriots. What is it safe for our country is too important. What is it stake for our liberty is too important. What is at stake for our freedom is too important. You cannot wait our turn to uphold the constitution protect our freedoms. It is always our turn. It is always our obligation to do so. We must always be that driving force in forming a more perfect union. May god bless each of you. They got bless always continue to bless our great nation. God bless. [applause] [indiscernible] ladies and gentlemen, welcome conservative activism and Freedom Works columnist. Thank you for having me speak here. I appreciate it. By now, everyone has heard of the chaos and political turmoil that engulfs wisconsin in 2011. While the Mainstream Media cover the professional protesters who occupied our state capital, there are many stories that have not been heard. There are many stories that the media have ignored. Stories like mine. Product of the Wisconsin Public school system. One of the best in the country. It hasnt always been easy for conservative thinkers. After defending Governor Scott walkers stance against the Teachers Union, i was repeatedly insulted, but not by my fellow students. By my teachers. I was called stupid. I was called weird. I was called a racist. By my teachers. When the story became a National Issue my house was act. My inbox was full of disgusting profanity. I received anonymous death threats. I believe in the hardline Governor Walker took in our state. I had to take a stand. [applause] why were so many people angry about scott walkers policy . It is because the Mainstream Media cover the uproar. They cover the protesters. They had failed to cover the reason for the chaos. They failed to cover the wisconsincrisis that wa was facing. It failed to cover how scott walker solved our deficit. Doing this all without raising taxes. [applause] lets compare Governor Walkers response to the fiscal crisis to president obamas response to his National Fiscal crisis. Did face theer deficit. In three years, he turned that into a 1 billion surplus. [applause] he created 100,000 jobs. He did it all while lowering taxes on wisconsin families. In contrast, over the last six years, president obama failed scandals, 7 trillion debt increase, and an employment rates has crippled this country. Absolutely crippled it. He has left no chance for my youth. Governor walker has proven it is not too late to turn our country around. It is not too late. All we need our leaders are Governor Walker wholl make tough decisions. Put our country first, not special interest. How do we like that later . It is activism. It is people like you. Not just from the experience. By youth as well. As i learned in my high school, it is not always easy to take a stand. It is critical the of people speak out. It is our job to make that happen. When Young Americans realize the greatness of our country, guess what happens . They become conservative. [applause] that is why im here today. ,o let our students conservatives know that it is ok to stand up to the union bullies. It is ok to stand up to those on the left to try to scream as and quiet submission. It is ok to stand up for what we believe in. [applause] the liberals and democrats for years have captured the youth vote. They have been winning with grassroots volunteer efforts. This can and will change. You have heard this statement for the past two elections. 2014 is the biggest chance for our country to get back on track. We can change things. Not phonies, not fakes. Worryvatives who dont about the next election. Who do what is right for our country and actually i values. [applause] we cannot do it without your help. We cant. As i always say, you are never too old or too young to make a difference in politics. [applause] never too old, never too young. Especially americas future is on the line. Myis our generation, generation and the generation to come that has the most to lose. Thank you. God bless america. Lets win in 2014. [applause] ladies and gentlemen, graham newsr, one america network. How about benji . Thats the future right there. Fornt to thank cpac between missin america and sarah palin. The straw poll is coming. A couple more people full of hot air like myself. I hope i will have a decent message for you we can Work Together with. I have breaking news for you. Out of the newsroom, we are no longer able to use the term illegal aliens. We now have to call them undocumented democrats. [laughter] that is what you will see on my show. Heard great messages. Great leaders. But i want to do is connect the dots. Now what . We have the poll results and we go home . Hope the best for november. Cross our fingers. See you next year. Do good in 2006 . In my opinion, we need a cohesive conservative game plan. [applause] that is why we are here. Last year, the one America News Network was a long shot. Here we are. On the air. Boys to explode across cablesystems. , one thanks to you here america is your credible source for national and international news. Along with shows like mine, we dissect the news each night looking through a conservative, constitutional prison. The point is, one america was a long shot. We did it. We are up and running. Reestablishing constitutional america is going to be a long shot. It can be done. Now is the time. [applause] unify all ofme to the elements of the conservative movement. All facets of it. Conservative talk host. Conservative bloggers. Republicans that have leaned conservatives. Tea party groups from coast to coast. , u. S. , americans who share conservative values. Together, we come galvanize the message. It is crucial. Together, we can make the case for constitutional america. We need to evangelize what we know to be the bedrock of the american experience. Liberty. Free markets. Limited government. For onet the case common language. [applause] how about we make the case for secure southern border . [applause] how about teaching the American Culture in school . How about abolishing the irs completely . Theabout an end to explosion of the welfare state . [applause] sunsetting federal programs. Reinforcing the 10th amendment. [applause] protecting the Second Amendment. How about this . To term limits for congress . Across the board. [applause] it is a start. What we need is a gingrich contract with america. A unified message. Instead of pandering to a few. A message that does over the heads of the detractors. It goes straight to the people, like Ronald Reagan. A cohesive game plan for november. Number one. Three points. Lower taxes. All taxes, not just income taxes. All of them. [applause] federalernment on all state and local. Number three, more freedom. Reembracing and reinforcing the constitution. [applause] thats it. It is a simple message. We will do our part. Americans are dying for leadership. That can articulate these fundamental runcibles. A guy from california had a long a similarign with message. In 2014, lot lets Work Together to have a conservative game plan that will take us back to that shining city on the hill. [applause] thank you. God bless. [applause] [inaudible] right. This is an exciting moment. Great weekend,ur we have two great things coming up. This is the first one. The longawaited straw poll. The one iss our good friend. Tony has been doing our polls since 1986. He has done them for free for us. Help me give him a big hand. [applause] and the sponsor of the straw here,nd the partner of us larry beasley, a chairman and ceo of the Washington Times. [applause] thank you. Has everyone had fun . [applause] are you all fired up to go back to your hometowns and fight to be liberated from the spending, the taxes, and regulations . We can finally change our country. Join me in thanking al, and the rest of the team for what they have done this week. It has been a sensational conference. [applause] sensational. And it is not over yet. This is one of my favorite parts of cpac. This year i get to announce the winner from two contests that reflected the deep partnership the Washington Times enjoys with cpac. We will announce these winners that will help change our countries future. First we get to announce the name of a few young journalists who won Washington Times idle. Idol. They tested interviewing skills against big names. When we announced the competition, we only planned to name two winners. Because of the generosity of one pacs friends, we will award three paid internships this summer. Great. Im going to let that man explained to you in his own words why he did this. Hello. Know, iof my friends started my career in the Nations Capital as a newspaper reporter. Canve seen how journalism make the country better in times of great crisis like we face today. Serve ourand editors [inaudible] when media institutions all over the world have increasingly news of communism, but today the conversation has been hijacked by elitists. I want to help change that. We endow the summer internship so young reporters can learn from experts at a that has been running for more than three decades. em. T help make America Great again. [applause] thank you for your generosity. With the endowment from the times, im proud to announce the two young journalists who will work this summer as paid interns. I will announce those now. Johnson from washington dc, drake from tulsa, and cement the scores from michigan scorsa fromtha michigan. [applause] distinction ofe being the first ever jim martin scholar at the times. Congratulations and welcome aboard. [applause] the second winner of the competition has a more immediate chance to change our country. That is the conservative leader that you picked to be the best person to send barack obama into retirement. And to return it white house to conservative leaderships. As a nice ring to it. The Washington Times straw poll is more than a tradition each year. It is the perfect barometer of the conservative movement. , it haso the great work an uncanny knack of who is rising to the top echelon of the conservative power. Podiumbring tony to the to explain what you told us, and who won. Thank you larry. This is the 20th year we have done the strong the stroll paul ashby straw poll. Straw poll. Now we couldnt do that today if we had to. Year, as in past years with the straw poll, we had it began being taken on thursday morning at 7 00. When registration open. It was supposed to close at 1 00 today but we kept it open a halfhour later. Peoplear we had 2459 participate in the straw poll. That is more than we saw four years ago at this time. Give yourselves a nice round of applause. We have respondents from everyone of the 50 states. Only registrants could go. They were the only people. You have little codes and instructions on how to do it. Boy how has it changed to now where everybody can do it on their ipad and iphones. It makes it easier. I would like to thank my partner who has been here making sure this operated well and we got the results counted right. I get to come in at the end and do the glory job of presenting the results. Lets look at the results. The type of registrant, 48 were individual registrants. 42 were students. Ave percent with participating organization. Four percent with a participating organization. Age. [applause] dominated bybe young people. As almost a 120 participants in the straw poll between the ages of 18 years old and 25 years old. We had a third of them that will be between the age of 26 or ligety five years old. Slightly up from past years with some of the more mature members of the audience. Had 63 of gender, we male, 37 female. Very much in line with what we have seen in past years. Peoples of what drives who attend see pack cpac. It is not a quantitative survey. People a sampling of from all 50 states who are at theforefront of conservative movement. They are the people who knock on doors. You are the people who stand in Shopping Centers and hand out brochures and literature for candidates and causes. This is for precipitate of what you think. Not every conservative. The activists at the frontline. More than three in four of you say that the most important ideology driven by individual freedom and reducing the size and scope of government and its intrusion into individual citizens lives. [applause] that number has been consistent now for the past several years. At one of our favorite people in washington, you can see we did a time chartier and went back and looked at how president obama has fared with respondents in the past. Back in 2012, there were 19 of the people that said they approved of the job he was doing. Today, in 2014, it is unanimous that everyone disapproves of the job he is doing. I do have a question. We allow the media to vote . Two percent said they approved. Not the Washington Times. More troubling for our friends down on capitol hill, look at the ratings the republicans in congress get. Split. T was basically in 2014, you all said that you supported what they were doing. Say year, they are what we in the business underwater. If the one percent. How do you think we should fix the budget deficit . Shock and surprise. 70 said cut spending. 70 said cut spending. 16 said raise taxes and cut ending. One percent, the media vote. Raise taxes only. 52 of you said it is time for our allies to stand up and fight for their own defenses and not rely on us. This one will be an even bigger favor. , theriends at the nsa people at the nsa need to read this one closely. 78 said they disapprove of the nsa monitoring phone calls and with the excuse of fighting global terrorism. The next slide will be a surprise. Your view on marijuana. Whether it should be legalized for recreational purposes, legalized to use for medical marijuana. I am building today. Give me a chance. Or whether we should keep it illegal. See, a plurality said that we should legalize it for recreational and medical use. 21 said it should be for medical use. 31 said should it be illegal. Thatw you are going to say we had almost half of the people who were young that did that. I will tell you, i looked at the numbers by different age groups. With the exception of the participants who were over the age of six to five years old, every age group had a combination of majority of legalize for recreational or medical purposes combined. It wasnt just the youngsters. The numbers you have been waiting for. The one that every year gets the biggest howl out of the audiences. Who won the c cpac straw poll . As you can see for the second year in a row, rand paul one with 31 . Ted cruz came in second with 11 . Ben carson came in third at nine percent. Governor christie came in at eight percent. Governor walker came in at seven percent. Senator santorum at seven percent. Marco rubio at six percent. There were 25 people on the list. Not everybody scored more than eight percent. A lot of them in the other. Ends, and theye raise and they range. We clumped them altogether. Think you for participating. Look forward to next year for an even greater response. [applause] [applause] the biggest gathering we will see this year of conservatives and potential republican candidate. We are at the Political Action conference in maryland. It is the largest annual gathering of conservatives. It has the look and feel of a political convention. In many ways it was a warmup for big republican names. It is the annual conservative Political Action conference. Gop heavy hitters lining up. Washington, d c action. Rick perry kick things off. He got a standing ovation from the crowd. Mike huckabee also got a lot of encouragement. They spoke about accountability and still to come, rant paul rand paul and rick santorum. Thousands of people traveled across the country to be here. Day two of cpac gets underway. Was a speakers list roster of potential candidates. They were focused on washington and the cpac as it is commonly known. Cpac continues today. They will hear from rand paul, on almost certain president ial candidate
