Of access to energy across the region and the interest which a package of on inducted billions of dollars which will go to improving our electric grid. So the Atlantic Coast pipeline is not the end all be all too business in this region. There is a lot of vulnerability in the transmission pipeline. We saw this with the Colonial Pipeline last year and how gas prices shot up immediately. It wasnt just gas prices but availability. Sometimes you had to drive around and find a gas station that had guest that day. There is a lot that needs to be done as well to improve the security of our electric, gas, and other Energy Transmission pipelines host and infrastructure. Thank you. Senator kiggins, two minutes. Ms. Kiggans again i echo. We have seen it in real life in the military with our carriers and submarines. Just growth for the localities in southwest virginia because of that. My opponent continues to support energy mandates and you look at things like build back better and the Inflation Reduction Act its really a huge environmental bill. That is making all of the country look like laces like california. I sat through in the state senate most people of this room are aware we wanted to marry virginia to california with our electric vehicle mandate and i sat there with pink highlighter and highlighted the word california and it was five different times that they said we are just going to do what california does. While, we see what is going on in california with the power great. They cant even power things like their airconditioners because of the mandates that have been put in place and requiring vehicles other trick vehicles by 2035. These are the types of things that we have to stop on the federal level. I too am interested in clean energy and things like the environment, the beach and the bait these things are important to me as well but i hate the government. I hate government in my life that is never the way to go. Putting mandates on hardworking, taxpaying americans who are struggling right now as a result of a 40 year high inflation these are the reasons why i run for congress. Host thank you, senator. 30second rebuttal rep. Luria . There were discussions about charging stations around Virginia Beach and the city of Virginia Beach was very excited to learn there is federal funding in the package that can help with that. Hopefully they will take advantage of that. If you dont want virginia to become like california for clean energy, you certainly want virginia to become like texas for lack of access to Reproductive Health care. Host 30second rebuttal. Ms. Kiggans im excited to work with senator youngkin. Its the way to go. We have to start thinking outside the box. I think each and every one of us want to reduce our Carbon Footprint but there are ways to do it. Exciting, new ways to do it. So im excited to support those on a state level and in congress. Host next question goes back to senator kiggans. Hurricane ian the closures of many offices. It is the first time they dealt with sealevel rise. Thats combined the most recent discussion on energy with policies to be adopted at the federal level to combat. Ms. Kiggans another part of Government Energy policy is to reevaluate every five years, the clean energy act. What are we going to do . Lets look at it in chunks. You talk about things like sleeve sealevel rise and these are issues in our communities. The impact our National Security. We hear from people that work on base and i know i listen to servicemen and women driving to and from base. They are impacted by flooding. We have drainage systems, lots of drip room for improvement. Federal money as well. It is something that i want to continue to work with places Like City Council and our localities to try to improve our infrastructure and our transportation so we can all get to work, right . Because thats important. The problem i have is with government involvement and government mandates for things like, again, our clean energy policies. That is where i think we really need to take a step back and thats what i think there is a big difference between democrats and republicans. Democrats are really interested in mandates and letting the government tell you how to run your life. Again, voting with nancy pelosi 99 of the time for a lot of these clean energy mandates. I run to, you know, restore strength and i want to do that by improving inch per structure. Host two minutes, congressman luria. Rep. Luria 350 million will be going to the city of norfolk to, again, the next day of the Army Corps Flood walls project which will help many businesses in our region economically. Im glad you gave us a pen because she doesnt support overarching mandates as the way to go. Letting government so you had a live your life isnt the way to go. And i noticed since you had a chance for the rebuttal when i brought a policy and the views about choice, she chose not to address it. But she clearly wants to tell you how to live your life if you are a woman who is dying because of a complicated pregnancy. She wants to tell you that if you are a 10yearold who is a rape victim and cant get a abortion here in virginia. I just gets ironic that she complains about energy policies, if it comes to Reproductive Health care or, you know, comments about how unfair it was to wear a mask during a Public Health emergency she doesnt want to address that. I just dont understand how she think she can have it both ways. Host 30second rebuttal, senator kiggans. Ms. Kiggans we came to talk about the issue so i want to be clear about being a prolife candidate. I believe we should discuss abortion with compassion i am not appreciative of my opponent who lies about me. I have always been a person who supported abortion in the case of rape or to save the life of a mother appeared i never made it my goal to make it illegal at the federal level that my opponent does this because she has an extremist. First bullet was dont enter appeared interrupt. Rep. Luria her number one bullet was that her reason, and she said this in her first debate. Her reason for running was to protect this entity of life. The number one reason. She does not believe in choice. She has said time and again that she wants to restrict a womans right to choice and, you know, she wont even show up with an interview with the National News outlet. She supports a federal 15 week band. Host i was prepared for this one. Lets go there. Abortion, once and for all. Former schoolteacher, thank you. Where do you stand on abortion . Not where your opponent stands but where do you stand . Should there be any restrictions or exceptions . A woman wants right to choose between a woman and her Health Care Provider and her faith we need to enshrine, reproductive taxes texts for and restore the rights of women across the country. I will continue to be an advocate in congress for women and fight to protect the rights of all americans including the right to choose. Two minutes. Where do i stand on this i think a woman should have a right to that choice. It should be a choice that is made between that woman, her doctor, her family, and her faith. And i believe that we should codify roe. For longer than my entire adult life, the roe v. Wade decision has been the law of the land. I voted twice in congress for legislation that. Since we are talking about business, i dont want to talk the abortion the whole time but you can see in state have the restrictions the impact that is having on the Business Community. It is a business issue. I dont think that our major employers in this region in that miss mrs. Kiggans getting in her car because she thought there was going to be a special session to end abortion. If we go that way in virginia we are going to have every Large Business that we would like to come here to diversify our economy are going to run the other way as fast as they can. Businesses all over the country large and small are providing benefits to their employees now in the states that have restricted Abortion Access that they can travel to other states. They are not investing in states that have restrictive policies about Womens Health care. Host thank you, congresswoman. Senator kiggins your website says foster care, adoption, and Family Support services. Expanding access to Birth Control and contraception. Furthermore, ensure that mothers have highest quality care and resources they need to choose life. She has been a champion for the unborn and our prolife values. Two minutes. Ms. Kiggans i want to restate that i am a prolife candidate and i think this is an issue that we need to be talking about with compassion. These are women in crisis these are women i have cared for as a Health Care Provider. My opponent continues to lie about my stance on abortion. To reiterate, there should be exceptions for rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother. The reason why this is happening is my opponent is using this as a distraction because she is actually the abortion extremist. She has voted not once but twice for the Womens Health protection act on the floor of the u. S. House which allows for abortion for any reason at any time even up to nine months and at taxpayer expense. This is something about 80 of americans disagree with. What you will never hear her say is what are her restrictions . 80 of us think there should be common sense restrictions on abortion. Yes, i concede my time, i would say to her what restrictions on abortion . Tell us, what is the limit because the media doesnt ask. She is not answering. What are her restrictions . Im glad that you quoted my website about Birth Control and how to facilitate adoptions. I think the broader discussion to be had, Mental Health care of women who are in these crisis situations i want to enable women to choose life at every turn i want them to know there are other options out there. I do believe it should be a state issue handled on a state level. It would be something to decide next her. Host thank you. Congresswoman luria. Rep. Luria i have stated my position. I believe in codifying roe. I would support that at the National Level. Secondly, contraception does everybody here know that 95 of the republics republicans in congress voted against affirming a womans right to contraception . Those are the very people she is endorsed by and it was led by Kevin Mccarthy who she wants to vote for for speaker. If you have a question about this issue and access to abortion and i do think reasonable restrictions should be in place such as outlines from the roe decision. Host 15 seconds over her rebuttal. Please take 45 seconds to rebut. Ms. Kiggans i am a believer of contraception i will say that. Kids are expensive. As far as, she is still not answering the question for me and i wish one of the reporters could actually ask her what argue restrictions on abortion . Do you have any . Because on the house for vote you have taken for the Womens Health care protection act which doesnt protect Womens Health it is for abortion at any time even up to nine months which we have seen that push in virginia we remember that. The Womens Health protection act analysis allows for abortion at any time for any reason. I want somebody to ask her what restrictions she supports. Host i think we need to continue until we get this one resolved so we dont bring the reporters when you two are here asking to represent the second Congressional District are there any restrictions, what are your restrictions . Two minutes. Ms. Kiggans it is a statelevel issue right now. I think Governor Youngkin has proposed a 15 week band to be decided at the state level but a commonsense sense restriction is something i support. Am against abortions up to nine months. Important bees to remember here me being called an abortionist extremist time and time again with unhinged Television Commercials distracts from my opponents view that she is the extremist. Host congressman luria, two minutes. Rep. Luria you said it should be decided at the state level but we had a vote on the legislation, which you have said im going to pass on this boat . Im not going to tell you my stance because i want the folks in richmond, montgomery, and every state capital around the country to vote on this but not me . When Lindsey Graham introduced legislation with a 15 week ban it included exceptions but they were draconian. A woman had to provide a Police Report almost like saying someone had to be convicted which takes years to show that she had been raped to get the abortion. I has had three times in this debate on bond that i support codifying the roe v. Wade decision and that the virginia law that is in place now, i find it to be a reasonable interpretation of implementation of the roe v. Wade decision and i will continue to support that when i continue to serve in congress. Host 30 seconds. Ms. Kiggans again, my opponents extreme reason. Shame on you for even insinuating that i am a person who wants to jail other nurses and Health Care Providers for things like having an abortion paired i am mom, i am a female, i am a Health Care Provider. I think this is a discussion that needs to be standard on with a lot more compassion. Host 30 seconds. Rep. Luria if its to be decided at the state level and you were to be elected to congress, if im understanding it you are going to say its not your responsibility to vote on that . Should every state have different rules . If a business is located in at your coney and state are they going to go to states where a woman can get contraception and health care . I just dont understand why you cant give an answer. You said its a statelevel because you want to go to the federal level. Host thank you. Lets continue health care. United states is the how wealthiest entry and spend more on health care than any other country. It is the unhealthiest because of the high obesity rate, heart disease, and diabetes. What Public Policies should the federal government used to address . Rep. Luria im glad you brought that up because i recall four years ago when i stood here for a Chamber Debate it was across the street and we did four years ago we talked about how to get the cost of health care down and im very proud about my second term in congress that we passed the legislation that President Biden has signed into law. Legislation that will cut Prescription Drug costs for seniors. For medicare to be able to negotiate drug costs to have outofpocket cap and to keep the cost of insulin to 35 for seniors on medicare. Im pretty sure that would be pretty popular with the geriatric patients she cares for but she said she said she would vote against it. Host two minutes. Ms. Kiggans i ran for congress to restrict restore strength in health care. This is an important issue for me. The relation reduction act was my didnt address transparency and didnt address every drug. We talk about seniors and i know that my opponent is having talking about lowering drug prices let me about the greatest generation, these are my people that i advocate for on a statelevel these are people i have devoted a career two. Theyve live on fixed incomes do you know what happens with policies . They cant afford their drugs. I dont care how much they cost they will sacrifice that when they are having to choose between food and gas prices. When they dont, when they cant afford to refill their prescriptions they do things like cut their pills in half or they wont take their medication but every other day. They wont take it as prescribed and that leads to poor health outcomes. The Economic Impact of what is going on with the fortyyear high inflation is hurting these people. This is what we need to focus on. This is not what my opponent is focused on. Voting with the economic policies and increased government and dates, it is not helpful to people like our greatest generation who live on these fixed incomes. I am a Health Care Provider who focuses on this area a has been a great honor to advocate for them on the state level. Things like visitation policies during covid, nursing facilities and assisted living its going to be a great honor to not only advocate to be a voice for the greatest generation in congress. Host thank you, senator. 30second rebuttal. Rep. Luria it sounds like you understand that there are high drug prices for seniors. I also understand that you voted against the legislation that was recently passed and signed into law that would reduce those drug prices for seniors. How exactly will you explain that to your patients . And also as far as fixed income for seniors for four years in aurora i just got a call from the white house the president signed into law my pay raise legislation. And our disabled veterans and survivors to the highest pay raise they have seen thanks to my legislation. Host thank you, congresswoman. Senator you have already seconds to respond. Ms. Kiggans veterans are also on a fixed income right now and are struggling with things like affording their medications and gas and groceries. These people on fixed incomes that i am most worried about. We have to focus on the economy. There are a lot of issues on the ballot this year by far and obey it is the economy so what are we going to do what are the solutions to strengthen our economy to lowering this inflation rate . 1. 4 when joe biden took office. Im not applauding going from 9. 1 to 8. 5 and 8. 3. I know we all feel it i dont care if your democrat or republican we are paying more now for gas and groceries. Host thank you, senator. Since we have brought up health care lets discuss veteran suicide. Mental health is a crisis in this country no one wants to talk about. Or jill with the impact directly in our communities. Two minute question. Senator what specifically would you do at the federal level to combat veteran suicide . Two minutes. Ms. Kiggans we can do so much better than what we are doing right now for our veterans. It is one area there is so much need for improvement. As a Health Care Provider, as a primary care provider i give a lot of Mental Health care. If i want to not it is something politicians only talk about we do it on the state level as well but unless you really understand the nuances of what providers feel and what our patient challenges are, i feel like that is part of the reason we need to elect more people that understand how to do Mental Health care. Advocate for our providers on a state level, those are people that are so stressed and strained right now. With the amount of Mental Health care required we have to do better with availability and accessibility. I hear from our veteran population about challenges with same dear care. Same day care. Ensuring we have tricare coverage, that they can get the access not just through the v. A. Health system but expanded to civilian Health System where they can be seen quicker. We need to be able to give them better Mental Health care we need providers, people who understand the challenges for treatment. I have been able to expand how many providers can work under a psychiatrist. We have to restore that strength. I feel like our current congresswoman, and the Democratic Party in general the priorities are not aligned for where they need to be which right now is focusing on Mental Health care for our veteran population for the families for civilians as well. Its a big problem and we can do better than what we are doing. Host two minutes. Rep. Luria im sorry that of all the topics she has made partisan, mrs. Kiggans thinks that veteran suicide is partisan because its not. I served on the Veterans Affairs committee i am the chair of the committee there and if there is one issue in congress that is in addition to the Defense Budget which passed 571 there is nothing in congress that is more bipartisan and that we are trying to tackle comprehensively. Within the Veterans Affairs committee in congress as a whole so im sorry she chose to make that partisan and a sign of weakness. We have expanded the window for those veterans characterization of discharge is a very significant issue and often there are many veterans who may have been separated from the military because of misconduct or poor performance are also inherently linked to Mental Health issues. We are working through on the Veterans Affairs side and the Armed Services side to make sure all of those veterans have that access to care with no questions asked. Through the v. A. , immediately. I also mentioned the increase to veterans care to congresss ago, i have been the leader of three subcommittees that i chair in creating the two largest increase in access to veteran access. Some never had care for 4050 years. We got that done and got that pat signed into law. The pact act, the part of that that was my legislation is the largest act to care for veterans in any of our lifetimes 3. 5 million additional veterans will have access to care and these are combat veterans who served in iraq and afghanistan who were exposed to toxic substances and they need health care for those conditions as well as Mental Health care. Host thank you, congresswoman. 30second rebuttal. Ms. Kiggans the number of veterans who die every day from suicide is unacceptable. I consider it a leadership failure that we are not finding a solution for this but finding a solution to this is a multifaceted problem. For me, i see it we are not talking continuity of care. Sometimes people are identified or they seek help, get stabilized. We lose them to the community. We lose them because they dont do followup, they dont take medication as prescribed, we need to find a place that we can i dont think our priorities are right. The evidence of that is in the number of people that are killing themselves on a daily basis. Host 45 second rebuttal. Rep. Luria i do believe there should be continuity of care. We have made measures by which providers have a much easier means to refer patients who may be seen for primary care, for chronic conditions, broken bone, all of the normal care closing the link between the primary care provider and referring a veteran based off of significant signals and indicators that are commonly known and studied within the different demographics to make sure that those veterans are also offered access to that care within a primary care provider has an indication they may be a risk of suicide. Host thank you, congresswoman. I follow news of your campaign and in the recent pilot article appearing for this debate your Campaign Spokespersons engined several mentioned several issues you would like to bring up and make sure you both satisfied i am checking the boxes as we go down and i think when we have not discussed of our mb will get to another one is the situation on our borders. Two minute question, beginning with congresswoman luria. How do you characterize what is going on at the southern border . Rep. Luria since i have been in congress both under the Trump Administration and the Current Administration i have voted repeatedly for increased security that includes physical barriers as well as other measures and other technologies to leverage surveillance and stop illegal crossings. I think we have a significant challenge with regard to Immigration Reform. I think we absolutely as a country need comprehensive Immigration Reform. We know from every business across this area that people are struggling to find workers. As comprehensive Immigration Reform is one thing that can guarantee that more workers can come to the United States and work legally. I also have been very clear on my position of daca and dreamers and bringing them out of the showers shadows. I also supported the modernization act which is a bipartisan effort in both the house and the senate to improve visas and accessibility for farmers to bring farmworkers if necessary to meet that demand. I think that there are a multitude of issues related to covet the have complicated the backlog of applications for those people who are seeking to come here legally. It covers every sector of our economy from our universities. I can call from the universities in the region saying we need assistance to help get a visa for a professor in the highest areas of technology and research to compare to the region to help improve our local economy and region and bring the highest tech and research here all the way to those who work in the hospitality industry. A comprehensive Immigration Reform is necessary. It hasnt been broached since 2013. I think continuing in congress with our current democratic majority is something we will continue to push. Host thank you, congresswoman. Ms. Kiggans let me tell you about the border i was able to go visit about a month ago with eight other republican women that are running for congress this year. Our borders are not secure. I am running against an opponent who has never put a size the biden administration. When i visited texas they brought us to the rio grande where the banks were littered with trash and we looked across and we could see a group of immigrants waiting to come and cross into our country we were there with border control. They are going to wait to you leave and then there is nothing we can to evolve we were standing there. We saw another group that they took out of the bushes, they put the latter back in the bushes. We talked to sheriffs from that locality, Property Owners who are scared and carrying guns at all times, scared for their families, we talked to Human Trafficking advocates, nurses who worked in emergency rooms. Women and girls are raped, sexually molested or trafficked. The cartels are running the show down there. They keep these people in stash houses and make them work hard wristbands according to how much money they still have to pay off. It is a humanitarian crisis at this moment. I do not hear a single democrat criticizing the Current Administration. We have to secure our borders. Not only that, not only is it leading to record high rates of Human Trafficking, every single state it that is a border state look at the fentanyl deaths that are occurring. Needless deaths. These are people that are so sad, the stories we are hearing. We have to secure our parties but it has to start with recognizing the problem. Yes emigration reform is going to be a part of that but i am running against an opponent who had has not voted against title 42 or the remain in mexico these are important things that are already in position that help us control our borders. Yes, finish the wall but we can do so much better. Host thank you, senator. Congresswoman, you have a 30second rebuttal. Rep. Luria i did stand up against the removal of title 42. I support keeping it in place until we have the resources to deal with the increase of people seeking asylum, for Refugee Status that is a legal way to apply to come and live and work in this country. If we had Immigration Reform we could make the process better for people like my family, your family who came here generations ago and did live, work, anger our families and be a part of this community but you want to build a wall and keep them out rather than fixing the actual problem. Host senator kiggans 45 seconds. Ms. Kiggans my opponent is complacent. We were told stories of great trees where they hang underwear of women who they raped in these trees. Because that is what is happening to women in our country, the republican women are on a mission to change that, to secure our orders do better for our women. We can do that, we can look forward to doing that in congress. Host thank you, senator. Do you devote an entire section to Holding China accountable, while congresswoman luria you would focus on securing billions to stand up to china. Any political would surmise that the Second District is concerned about china. But china is also the largest trading customer going in and out of the port every year. Is there a balance that can be struck . What do you suggest we do and what lesson can be learned from russia and ukraine . Two minutes. Senator. Ms. Kiggans china is the greatest National Security threat. They are stealing our manufacturing. If you look at what we are still making in china, it scares me to death the 80 of our pharmaceuticals are made there. We have to do better than that. We have to bring in you factoring back to this country and focus on domestic manufacturing. In addition to that, human rights atrocities going on they are a threat to what we are doing. We have to take that threat seriously. We know they are waiting and watching if we dont continue to be the deterrent i know our great country can be, we are going to see china be more aggressive. We have seen it in russia and ukraine. We have look at the priorities of the biden administration. Look what happened a year ago. You remember the withdrawal from afghanistan. We killed 13 servicemen and women that they needlessly. Not only did we do that, we werent a deterrent that day. It was political theater that we got that done on september 11. We can do better at restoring strength so we are a deterrent to china. If this is so important not only as a navy pilot, a veteran, married to a veteran, daughter of a veteran, but as a mom to people who are serving we have to read storage strength. Resource strength. So that we can be the deterrent that i know we are. Host two minutes congresswoman. Rep. Luria is there anything that keeps me up at night its china. Everything that i am doing and have done over the course of the last four years in Congress Getting more resources for our navy, really driving them to stop making some of the decisions they have been making to die fast, there is no one who has been more vocal about that and if you want to hear more next week i will be speaking with senator bricker at the Reagan Institute two hours on that topic alonso hopefully you can tune into that. You say bring manufacturing back exactly. Another piece of legislation that my opponent said she wouldnt vote for. So when you wake up in the morning and you go to sleep at night, everything you use has a Semi Conductor chips and it. Where are 90 are those made . I one. We have to remove our independence our dependence on taiwan. It is a vulnerability, inc. We have seen the increased activity in the region. We need to be a deterrent. Its not just think thats be a deterrent. Its not just spending our money in the Defense Budget. I think the department of defense needs to do things differently and i think our Foreign Policy needs to change. We are well past the point of our policy of strategic ambiguity. Since the 1970s we wont i want i am one of the few people have said we need to end this policy. We need to say that the United States will come to the defense of taiwan in order to maintain the status quo. That will drive everything we are doing in the Defense Budget and those investments that we make. We will actually deploy to be a deterrent and have the ability and gift the president the authority to do that because we would have said clearly that we will come to the defense of taiwan. Host thank you. 30second rebuttal senator. Ms. Kiggans i would like to talk about the chips act which my opponent said she supports. It gives money back to china for some of the Green New Deal mandates also in that bill there are also the pills t loopholes. She is not telling you how much money she profited from her vote on things like the chips bill. Up to fill it 15 million owning stocks in semiconductor chips. Not millions of dollars that you made with some of these insiders job trading votes. It needs to be acknowledged and needs to be remembered at the ballot box. These are things i now you and congresswoman dont agree with about allowing insider stock trading to which you have been a fitted firm. Host congresswoman, 45 second rebuttal. Rep. Luria i clearly oppose insider stock trading. There are rules in congress that require complete transparency. Of all financial interests that one has. And i hardly think that im going to stand up. Front of the Business Community and apologize for being successful. I served in the military for 20 years. I invested in the stock market. To fact check you again, you might be talking about a lobby against the chips bill. Im a little confused how you think that my investment in that when i bought it while still active duty in the navy. It had nothing to do with serving in congress had anything to do with my vote. Its insulting you would think that i would even have the ability to profit from serving in the house. The Information Available about the legislation is in the newspaper. Host i let them go on because you were any passionate thought. Two more questions. Lets return, if we can, to the question of Fiscal Health of the country. I believe congresswoman luria requested another rebuttal. Student loan forgiveness because thats going to add to the deficit. Do you support the president s action on Student Loan Debt and please put it in context. In context of Fiscal Health and other programs you mention so far today. Congresswoman, two minutes. Rep. Luria i would not have gone about this the way the president did. I will tell you a story i was at virginia wesley when i was running for the first time talking to a group of students and a student said to me when you apply for assistance it doesnt take into account that my parents are still paying off their Student Loans and it struck me how intergenerational this is. It really hit me and for that very reason i introduced legislation bipartisan and working with senator marco rubio to eliminate interest. My stepdaughter we are still paying some of her student funds and when you look at the interest its staggering. I think we need to come up with a solution thats going to become prehensile. Conference of. A Certain Group of people in a certain time region are going to get a certain amount of relief thats not a comprehensive solution. When you look at as well some of the programs that are already in place like Public Sector student loan forgiveness when you look at teachers, Mental Health professionals who are really doing a service to our community and serving in a public capacity being able to properly implement those programs, we have constituents who have tried to take advantage of that benefit but it is challenging to expand the ability for people who were critical jobs, law enforcement, health care, and to help, teachers. There are a lot of ways to go about this other than this current proposal which again i think it will be challenged in the courts. Im going to continue to try to push the legislation with marco rubio to eliminate interest. Ms. Kiggans this does not include the current student loan forgiveness that the Joe Biden Administration has been proposing which is going to cause a hardworking, hurting taxpayers of america many. Skilled trade workers and votech workers, people who had to find ways to pay for college because they perhaps couldnt afford, i couldnt afford to college so i decided to go by applying for a navy rotc scholarship. Its a slap in the face for other veterans who might have joined the military for the education benefit. How about people who couldnt afford to pay for college so they pursued a skilled trade or pursued a votech job. Why should they be forced to pay for other Peoples College loan forgiveness . I think its hurting people who are already suffering the effects of a 40 year high recordbreaking inflation. I opponent those with nancy pelosi 99 of the time. We can do so much better with prioritizing how we are going to get our economy back on track. How we are going to get more money in the pocketbook of tax paying americans. Host 30second rebuttal. Rep. Luria i dont have anything to add on the topic. Host 30 seconds. Ms. Kiggans i dont think i have anything to add either. Host final question. Another important aspect it would be safe to say is the american political climate. Because the climate is so unhealthy it has infected the Business Climate in the world paired both parties are to blame , my estimation. For the deep and destructive divisions that permeate our politics. Both parties have leaders that dangerously denounced certified Election Results as stolen, rigged, and invalid. Since 2000, almost a quarter century. The only results not called into question by the losing party were 2008 and 2012. Senator kiggans the question i have is what would you to keep those in your party to continuing down this road . This is about you as well as congresswoman luria r and youroles within your own political party. Ms. Kiggans i got off my couch to run for office because i hated the negativity i hated the rhetoric, i hated the division i saw on television. I thought our country deserved better leadership than that. We can do so much better than that so that motivated me to be apart and have a seat in the government. They told me when i one that hard earned election in 2019 the most important job is to go up there and make friends. So you know what i did i asked people what was for lunch on both sides of the aisle where did you get your shoes . What is the weather forecast. If we can find places we can agree on the Little Things that makes agreeing on the big things so much easier. What i dont approve of his current state of politics and the division that is put in place right now. Our president like when he gives speeches with dark backgrounds and calling half of the country a threat to democracy that is not the right way to proceed. We are not enemies. We have more in common than we do different. Its important to remember why we run, with the goal is here, the goal is to restore strength in america. We know our country is the greatest country on earth. It is why i ran in the state senate in 2019. Its been an honor to have a seat at the table. Its why im running this year because we can do so much better. Virginia deserves so much better our commonwealth, and so does our country. Host two minutes congresswoman. Rep. Luria there are legal means by which to object or question Election Results and those are through the courts and through procedures. I will point out that your were question implying that january 6 is normal. I will tell you that protecting our democracy is one of my key concerns. When you look at the facts that one party, the leadership of the party that my opponent wants to support doesnt have the courage to stand up and actually say its wrong. That we had a violent insurrection at the capitol and it wasnt just the events, look at everything that was compiled and led up to that, every level of government to say there was some big lie. Donald trump that was a lie when he said it he convinced millions of americans of it. We still have a clear and present danger in this country because of that political rhetoric. Serving on the january 6 committee, i think this is the most important thing that i have done or that i ever will do professionally in my life beyond the 20 years that i have served in the navy, beyond commanding a unit of 400 sailors beyond the work i have done in congress, it is about getting to the facts, is it about laying things out and making sure Something Like january 6 doesnt happen again. Yet this is kiggins will go to congress and vote for leadership for people who want to ignore this and i like it didnt happen. Because its political cash that is funding her campaign. She does everything she does for political expediency. I dont how many times today she has pointed out views that were different when she was running in the primary. Because now she has to talk to everybody. I dont know what she stands for, and hopefully, hopefully if she gets elected she will make up her mind about something because today she skipped half a dozen votes, wont commit to her position on things and shes not fit to serve in the United States congress. Host thank you, congresswoman. Ms. Kiggans shame on you for attacking my character. Secondly i would like to address Election Integrity which you brought up as an important part of this question. Its an issue i care a lot about because its a cornerstone of our democracy. Its a place i want people to feel like when they cast their vote, they have cast it confidently. That their vote counts, i think we have, the democrats were not happy with the results in 2016. Yes, january 6 was a dark day and people who broke that law need to be held accountable but i want to go back to the root of the problem. Election integrity has been an issue on the state level. I look at some of the election reform laws that were passed and i certainly, it has been a priority of mine and i will continue to make it a priority. Host congresswoman, 52nd rebuttal. Rep. Luria tell me about your opponent. And i say what there is a few things shes against the womans right to choose, number two shes an election denier. She has never clearly said in public that joe biden won the 2020 election. Never. She says things like while he lives in the white house and i wish he didnt. So i dont think she will get another rebuttal for this. Ap shall include it in her closing but she didnt say 2020 was actually a free and Fair Election and joe biden is the president at the United States. She hasnt had the courage to say that but she things im attacking her character. Host thank you l, congresswomanuria congresswoman luria. In no way did i mean to suggest that jenna respect january 6. Respond you have two minutes closing remarks. Rep. Luria thanks again for everybody who took time to participate and join us here in the room. And join us virtually as well. As we have gone through different issues today, you know there are a few things i thought of. A lot of times people stand appearance a this is why you should vote for me. I think my track record shows clearly the result that i have given to the Second District not only at the National Level but things such as public safety, commitment, and vestment on the eastern shore. They speak for themselves. I will tell you there are certain cases were i am not your candidate. I am not your candidate if you think the election was stolen. Im not your candidate if you think 70 million of state taxpayer money should go to a Forensic Audit of the 2020 election. A state that President Biden one. If you want to criticize that the effort doing their job and enforcing federal law im not your candidate if youth set stand with insurrectionists. Im not your candidate if you would rather have donald trump as president because he so critical of. And im not your candidate if you think, if you know whats best for women rather than allowing them to make their on choices. And im certainly not your candidate if you dont believe that america continues to have the Strongest Military in the world. Serving in congress is a very difficult and rewarding job. We havent had a lot of time to talk about the interactions we have with constituents but all of a sudden, its all about the people and its all about the people who i see in the Community Come up to me and say thank you for what you have done. Thank you for what youve done for my father who is a disabled veteran, thank you for what youve done for the environment, thank you for what you done to stand up for our democracy. I would say those people who supported me in 2018 and 2020, thank you for supporting me and i ask you for your support again and i will continue the hard work i have done and continue to deliver for virginias Second District and stand up for our democracy. Host final remarks, two minutes and 20 seconds. My entire life is been about service, as a navy pilot come as a mom of four and a navy wife in service to my community as a geriatric Nurse Practitioner and state senator. You been able to hear both of our views, not just on Business Issues but also our vision for the community and country and what motivates us to run. Each election year, my opponent campaigns as a moderate that in between elections, she doesnt vote like one. She felt like nancy pelosi. The first vote she cast was for nancy pelosi as speaker of the house and continues to vote with her most of the time. If you take away nothing else from today come i want you to take away that statistic. When i knock on doors and talk to moms in carpool lane just lines and Civic Leaders and asked what is driving people to vote this year, the response i usually get is we are not happy with the direction of our country. They tell me about the economy and how much they pay to fill their tanks, how much it costs to feed their families and how much less they have in their savings account. Working americans are hurting from joe bidens failed economic policies. These policies go by the name of elaine luria who votes for them 99 of the time. The government expansion into our lives and businesses must stop. To stop these things and get our country back on track, we must have a change of leadership in congress and in the Second District, that starts with firing nancy pelosi. My kingpin has been focused on the economy, the border, or childrens education, crime and our military. My opponent has one that has run a one issue smear campaign. Voters will remember these things when they cast their vote november 8. Thank you for this opportunity to serve my community, my district and my country and government and its the honor of a lifetime and responsibility i do not take lightly. I asked for your vote and i look forward to serving as the next congresswoman from the Second District. Host thank you. [applause] host on behalf of the chamber of commerce, would like to ask to thank you both service for your service to the country in the commonwealth in your military and political careers. As the brother of retired navy captain, as the fatherinlaw to a sergeant in the marine corps, civilians like myself never say enough but went but trust me when i say this, thank you. [applause] thank you all for host
