Now that weve been given this second chance, its up to all of us to see what we do with it. And the first new email since the internet was erased successfully went out at 6 00 a. M. Today. The honor went to a mr. Dave beckett of boca raton, florida. Mr. Beckett, you had the honor of being the first person to socialize on the new internet. Can you tell us what you did . Well, i sent an email with a photo to my old friend thomas winger up in connecticut. And what did you say to mr. Winger . I showed him my dick, called him a fag. From comedy centrals world news headquarters in new york, this is the daily show with trevor noah. cheers and applause trevor welcome to the daily show im trevor noah. Thank you so much for tuning in. Our guest tonight from orange is the new black, Selenis Leyva is here, everybody cheers and applause well have a fun conversation with her. But lets not talk about tv for now, because there is breaking news from the theater. The Theater Company behind new yorks names Hwange National parshakespeare tohave the park. It features a President Trump look alike in the title role. He is shown stabbed to death on stage. Delta air lines ended its sponsorship and bank of america pulled its sponsorship of the production. Trevor the play is so violent, delta pulled out. Terrible news for the Public Theater put a great opportunity for united air lines theyre probably, like, we want in people are getting hurt we want in laughter now, clearly, putting a trump look alike into Julius Caesar angered a lot of people. Plus the play totally ignored it was ted cruzs dad who actually killed caesar. But thats beside the point. Fortunately, somebodys got bill shakespeares back and thats fox news. I expected it to be a classic rendition of Julius Caesar. When the character was brought forth and it was donald trump i was appalled. This is this this isnt art. Its disgusting. If this was president obama and they behaved in this fashion you cannot imagine the international outrage. You can have this trumplike character stabbed to death in front of a American Flag in front of a bunch of senators is a perversion of shakespeare. Trevor shakespeares whole point is violence in politics makes things worse. How are you just learning shakespeare is distasteful . The plays have beheadings, suicides and character have their own dead children fed to them. Share spear is basically Quintin Tarantino with a thesaurus. Thats all it is. For the record, on the question of whether liberals would go nuts if obama was caesar interestingly in 2012 delta gave financial backing to a production in minneapolis of Julius Caesar which seemed to reference then president obama, but that production didnt get anything near this type of attention. Trevor exactly, it happened and no one cared it happened because it happened with tons of leaders. They always make it a caesar production with the leader in power. If anything, we should say all shakespeare plays should include donald trump, if only to hear him speaking like a thespian the lady doth protest too much. Unless youre a star, then they let you do it. applause lets move on to a story with way more drama than shakespeare could write. President trump considering whether to fire special Council Robert mueller. Swirling speculation whether president would move to fire robert mueller. The lead story of the new york times, the front page to have the l. A. Times. It amounts to political suicide if President Trump actually tried to fire special counsel robert mueller. Trevor at some point were going to have to stop saying trump is committing political suicide. All right, donald trump dont die, people. laughter donald trump is the transformers movie of politics. No matter how bad it gets, its never over, and you think you dont know anybody who supports them, but you do. You do. That being said, though, i get why a president firing the special prosecutor investigating his campaign is something the media would want to cover because its fun to gossip, which if were honest, is, at this point, all this story really is. This all started when the president s friend chris ruddy floated this idea on the pbs newshour. We know he was here, had west wing meetings. We dont think he actually met with the president , thats important to point out, but floated the idea the president was thinking about the possibility of trying to get mueller fired. Trevor so some guy is just guessing that trump is thinking of firing mueller. Well, no bleep , trumps always thinking about firing someone. laughter its who he is. Right now at this very moment, hes probably watching the white house gardner out the window going like, maybe if i fire him, russia will disappear. Maybe him in no. laughter i know its exciting to think about trump sabotaging his presidency, but this is a rumor, no more or less. Why waste energy on speculative crazy when there is so much actual crazy to focus on. Like the recent gift from the house of representatives. Republicans voted to undo most to have the doddfrank act arguing it made it harder for banks to do business and hamper the economy. The house voted to undo stricter banking rules imposed following the 2008 financial crisis. Trevor finally republicans stepping up for the White Working Class banks. Ah and i know Relaxing Bank regulations could easily lead to another financial collapse but is that necessarily a bad thing . Is it . Because lets be honest, every generation deserves the chance to complain to their kids about how rough they had it. Huh . So when this causes the next crash, millennials will finally get to tell their story. After the crash, we couldnt afford the puppy filter. We had to use road kill and scotch tape and we were happy laughter we had it tough. People, you understand what happened here . The house voted to repeal doddfrank. That actually happened. The mother thing didnt. But there is more coverage on the mother story because its more fun to watch a soap opera than cnbc. Thats why everyone was clued on d. C. Hobbit. Jeff sessions set to testify on capitol hill today about russian contacts during the president ial campaign. Attorney general sessions, if you would stand, i will administer the oath to you. Trevor oh, you were standing . Oh, my bad. My bad. I didnt realize that you were standing at the time. applause thats right. Jeff sessions today gave sworn testimony about the russia investigation to the Senate Intelligence committee. It was a pretty dramatic hearing because just last week james comey testified to the same folks and he threw some hard shade at his former boss suggesting sessions hasnt been truthful about his role in the whole russia mess and, today, sessions fought back. Until i finish with this, i recuse myself into any investigation into the campaign with the president but i did not recuse myself against defending myself against secur scurulous d false allegations. Trevor beauregard Jeff Sessions uses that line all the time, i recuse myself from the russia investigation but i will not recuse myself from these nachos, yeah wait, 5 for quack moley . I recuse myself laughter now the recusal sessions mentioned was one of the key issues everyone wanted to know about. Did he speak to President Trump after russia after he said he wouldnt . So the question is simple, but if theres one thing we know about imaginicle creatures is its if you ask them a question they dont like they make up rules for why they cant answer. If any of your discussions with the president about the firing of james comey did the question of the russia investigation come up. I cant answer that because it was a communication by the president or if any such occurred it would be a communication that he has not waived. I am not stonewalling. I am following the historic policies of the department of justice. You referred to a longstanding d. O. J. Policy. Can you tell us what policy it is youre talking about . A policy that goes beyond just the attorney general. Is that policy in writing somewhere . I i think so. laughter trevor well be right back cheers and applause do we really have to choose him to be our next spokesperson . Seems like a good fit. But hes so boring. Im yawning just talking about him. Well its our job to change that. Uh guys. I think he can hear us. Hm. Sounds like youre on the fence. Why dont i just leave you my resume . Yes, its laminated. Xfinity mobile. Trevor welcome back to the the daily show. With the russia scandal completely swamping the news, its good to get additional perspective every now and then and for that we turn to Current Affairs analyst roy wood, jr. , everybody cheers and applause roy. Oh, russia, trevor. Russia, russia, russia russia everywhere. Im sick of it, man every day with these hacks nothing safe. You know what . Just today we heard its worse than we thought. Its reported russias cyberattack during the 2016 election was far more widespread than initially reported. Russias hackers hit systems in at least 39 states. In illinois, reports that authorities found proof they tried to delete or alter voter data. They hit 39 states which has to make you feel bad if youre one of the other 11. Russia basically decided you werent worth it. Its like being the guy who doesnt get spam emails. Its not like i need a bigger bleep but i like to be asked. Just ask. laughter but heres the thing, trevor my question, is i want to know whats the end game for these Russian Hackers . Why are they doing this . Trevor i think the end game is to cause chaos in america. You want more chaos in america . I got news for you, russia, were at max chaosivity, youre basically driving behind a tornado and throwing out trash all over the place. We got chaos covered. Just this past week, you got black lives matter backing the gay pride parade, feminist and men complaining about wonder woman and we cant decide if Tristan Thompson kissed david west. I dont know. Trevor im sorry, roy, whats wrong with men kissing . Nothing but theyre in game five of the finals. Nows not the time for romance. laughter trevor i dont get it. What does this have to do with the hackers . Nothing, trevor. I have money on the cast. Trevor all right. Look, im not even that upset about these political Russian Hackers. Its all the other hackers wasting their skills. Have you seen they have been up to . Unfortunately, the hackers are back. Abc is affected by the latest theft. A hacker leaked eight episodes of Steve Harveys funderdome online. Mmmmmm. Youre hacking steve harvey . Steve harvey . The whole point of hacking is to give us something we dont have access to. We have plenty of steve harvey. Hes on the radio, hes got tv shows, books, hes got maken, trevor bacon hes got bacon the hackers, come on, those arent the hacks we want. You control the universe now. At least do some good. Delete our student loans. Help smalltown drug offenders out of jail. Help me find tupac i know youre out there pac. Holler if you hear me, come on, packers, step your game up trevor wow, those are powerful words. You say the hackers are useless. No, no, no, no. Trevor roy wood, jr. , shots fired, hackers, yall aint bleep . Roy said it, my man. Going at the hackers. You need to slow down. All i said hackers, please dont hack me. I have nothing but respect for your craft, your keyboards trevor hack his ass hack his ass roy said it, roy wood, jr. 37 hot mail. Com, hack him, hack him um, i cant have happen what happened last time. Ahem. Heres my card. Im sure you know your profits are down 8 . So, just let me know if you want to change that. I believe in you break through , break through blue moon is brewed mwith valencia orange peel, for a taste that shines brighter. So youso does he. Game . You say aint nobody gonna work harder . He said the same thing. You get an hour of training in before the sun even comes up . Plenty of early risers out there. You got the gear . They got the gear. You got a secret weapon. This dude doesnt need one. See this isnt just a game of inches. This is a game of ounces and the next ounce you give might just be the one that the other guy doesnt gatorade, rehydrate, replenish and refuel. How do they make starburst taste so juicy . They use wicked small fighter jets to shoot the juiciness into every starburst. [ pilot ] its about to get juicy. Whoo i feel so aliii. It takes guts. [ female announcer ] starburst. Unexplainably juicy. So, if anyone has a reason that these two should not be wed, speak now. coughs so sorry. Oh no. Whoops, forgot my powercord, coming back down. My guest tonight is an actor who can be seen in the Netflix Series orange is the new black. The warned, caputo, he said you could help. Jesus christ, even when hes a hostage hes making work for me. Please, my son is in intensive care and i need to see him before he wakes up. Caputo said you could help. You could free the hostages. How do i know you are going to deliver what im asking for . You dont, but uh seem to be your only shot. Theres 400 bitches in here asking for a whole lot more for those hostages. So dont ask their permission. Whats more important to you, your criminal peer group or your child . Trevor please welcome Selenis Leyva. cheers and applause thank you thank you trevor welcome to the show. Thank you wow, this is fancy. Trevor this is nice, yeah . Yeah. Trevor youre used to being in prison. Anything is better. Trevor i feel anything is better than where you were. And real cops. Trevor i am such a beg fan of the show. I have been a fan of yours since day one, orange is the new black. I guess it just became one of the biggest hits out of the blue and still going strong. Lets talk about your character. This is an interesting season for her. I dont want to spoil anything for anyone but i know people binge and this season is basically about the inmates taking over the prison. Your character is one of the more moderate people in the big house. Shes always the voice of reason. Trevor right. She wants to keep the peace and we see that and her life just collapses and unfolds and its about survival and it becomes literally life and death for her behind prison. And we havent seen that. We havent seen her really be in it like this, so i got to play, and you will see, i spent a lot of times wet and muddy. It was good. Although, you know, wet and muddy i mean, you know laughter trevor the story not that show, but laughter sorry. Trevor the stories that are told in orange is the new black are really interesting to see as they evolve. When the series first kicked off, the story was told predominantly from what seemed to be a white womans point of view in prison, and then, as the seasons moved on, it became the black experience for a woman in prison. Now whats come to the fore is a story of a latino woman in prison and a different story is being told now. Yes, thats good, right . applause you know, and its about time. The wonderful thing that is done with the writers is everyone gets a time to shine. Groups get a time to shine and tell their stories. You know, were just lucky that it was our turn and we got to deliver the goods, and it feels really good to just be a representation because growing up, i didnt see myself on tv. I didnt see myself in the big on the big screen, i didnt. So for me its more than just me. Its bigger. Its like theres a little girl out there in the bronx, you know, just like me where i grew up, and shes, like, thats me, i could do it. So its bigger. I always see it as a bigger picture, you know, the stories that were telling. Theyre also bigger pictures. Were representing people that usually are not thought of. Trevor right. People in prison who thinks about them, if you dont know anyone whos behind bars. So this show has really been a good, good voice for those that usually remain voiceless. Trevor its also interesting because its not just a story about convicts as oftentimes we have been taught to speak of them. Its a story of people who are in prison. Your characters story is one of those where she is in prison because she was trying to feed her family, and it was what many people would consider a minor infraction that led to her being locked up, and that the unfortunately a story you hear all too often. Our prisons are filled with people with minor infractions. Our prisons are literally filled with people who commit petty crimes and theyre doing hard time. And our prisons are filled with, you know, people who i believe weve failed, you know, as a society the poor, you know, the people who havent been really educated. And it cycles. Its hard to break these cycles. People end up, its almost like a family with young pregnancy, chances are youre going to see that again. Theyre cycles people kind of fall into, and a lot of people behind bars, unfortunately thats what they have and thats what makes it home, almost. We have an interesting episode, i dont even remember when, but you know where tasty Danielle Brooks gets out and goes, ive got to go back to prison, thats my home. A lot of people feel that. We have a responsibility as a society to make sure we do a better job. Trevor youre not just speaking of that on the show. Because to have the show you work with the womens prison association, you work with women prisoners who experience these things. When you speak to them, it must be an interesting conversation to have because you are portraying a piece of their lives. Yes. Trevor you are trying to convey the human side of what prisoners are going through. What was the biggest thing you took from them when you went back into doing the show . I think there is definitely gratitude when you speak to them. Theyre grateful were telling these stories and were telling them with depth and heart and humor. Its important for me, playing gloria, who is a mother, when i talk to these women who have been incarcerated and they tell me the pain being separated from their children, missing out on important years of their lives, that has helped me bring it back to the set of orange is the new black and tell the story, and that does help. Trevor youve done such a great job. Thank you. Trevor that back home theyve honored you. Thats my cousin. laughter applause trevor you have many cousins, then, because, in the bronx, they have now named a street after you. Thats crazy. Yes. Trevor that is insane, right . cheers and applause i would love to know how that feels, especially considering the story of your family and where you came from. You know, my parents are immigrants. My father is from cuba, my mother from the dominican republic. They came here, worked hard, paid their taxes. cheers and applause laughter okay. And, so, and now, you know, they were there. They were there, you know, with me and the un at the unveiling. I had my daughter by my side, my brothers, my sisters. It was a huge moment,. Trevor right. Because i dont think my father or my mother ever imagined that one of their children that their children would be as successful as weve become individually. Trevor right. And theyre so proud. That moment, for me, it was about them. It was them. Trevor they have everything to be proud of. Thank you so much for being on the show. Thank you. Trevor orange is the new black is available now on netflix. Well be right back
