[ applause ] welcome to the lead. Im jake tapper. You have been watching Queen Lizabeth ii and President Trump each delivering toasts at the state banquet in Buckingham Palace. The queen toasting to the common values and shared interests of the u. S. And the uk, invoking the 75th anniversary of dday this week. President trump echoing that message, offering a toast to the friendship between the two nati nations, the leadership of the queen and the service of the prince. The state visit has been two years in the making. Thats when the invitation was first extended to President Trump. The occasion, obviously, involves a lot of tradition, which is interesting for a president who is, i think its fair to say, anything but traditional. Max foster is outside Buckingham Palace for us right now. Max, what did you make of these toasts from the queen and from President Trump . Well, President Trump talking about how he was profoundly honored for this invitation, for the state visit vi. Both of them hinged on speeches around dday and talk about the military and security ties, which underpin what certainly brits see as a very special relationship, america being the key ally of the United Kingdom. I have to say, there was a paragraph there in the queens speech which i think was pretty pointed. If we look at the line where she talks about, after the shared sacrifices of the second world war, britain and the United States worked with other allies to build an assembly of International Institutions to ensure that the horrors of conflict would never be repeated. Whilst the world has changed, were forever mindful of the original purpose of these structures. Now, theres a big debate here in europe about Donald Trumps intention, really, to break down many of those institutions, nato, the European Union, the sorts of institutions that are held dear on this continent because of the bar. And shes basically reminding donald trump, i think, that they matter a huge amount to her and to the United Kingdom and to europe and they shouldnt be forgotten. Very interesting. Kate, let me bring you in. While there is all of this royal pageantry, im told that its not quite to the extent that one might traditionally expect, is that right . Reporter yes, we might usually expect much bigger royal pageantry than we get here. It certainly is a huge state dinner. But we have seen many bigger ones, and what we arent going to see, which we sometimes do is reviewing of the troops. Is a large troop review. Basically, whats happening with mr. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump is indoors. And thats because they are afraid of protesters, theyre afraid of disruption, and they are afraid of people on the streets, the giant trump balloon that went flying during the last visit in windsor. So i think that is the argument that its going to be all interior as opposed to an exterior visit. And i think thats very important, when we arent seeing, yes, britons rolling out the red carpet, but it could be bigger and it could be redder. And bianca, let me bring you in, the last time President Trump visited the uk, he was greeted with that huge baby trump blimp flown over london. The president , so far, it seems, has avoided seeing protests. So he says, and thats because hes been traveling around london mainly by helicopter back and forth from winfield house where i am, jake. Although tomorrow, baby trump blimp is making another appearance between 9 00 a. M. And 11 00 a. M. Local time. At this point, President Trump will be in meetings with Business Leaders and hell be going to downing street. Its possible he might not see it. And one of the main reasons behind that protest and one of the reasons why the brits that dont want to welcome the president to the uk at this time object to him is because of his populism, because of his support for causes like brexit because of his antiimmigrant rhetoric. And thats interesting where we heard from the queen and mr. President trump right now, they talked about a lot about shared value and shared sacrifice, is when the queen started to discuss the importance of the European Union and President Trump chose to champion the fact that the uk took its own destiny into its own hands and fought for a sense of sovereignty, freedom, and selfdetermination. Now, reading behind the lines, that brexitiers and those who want to leave the eu will very much hearten them. And those are the people that want to see President Trump come and think that an endorsement of trump for a future Prime Minister perhaps Boris Johnson who did claim today as the day he decided to launch his campaign officially, theyll be happy to hear those sentiments from President Trump and it will really but ttress the argument theyre trying to make. And President Trump a big fan of winston churchill. Nyle, this visit comes as the k is undergoing a lot of turmoil, preparing, trying to figure out the proper way to leave the European Union. Theres going toon electi be an for a new Prime Minister and on and on. This is an extremely important time for Great Britain and the special relationship, as well. And without a doubt, i think that President Trump is the biggest single supporter of brexit on the world stage today. And stalt a lot of brexit suppo strongly support President Trump and also what hes saying right now about brexit, about selfdetermination, about national sovereignty. And i would say that certainly he is viewed by backers of brexit in Great Britain as a president who really stands with th them, who stands with the 17. 4 million britons who voted for brexit in the referendum. And i suppose youll hear more words from President Trump in the next few days on brexit, which he believes as fundamentally important, actually, for the United States as well. He believes that brexit is good not only for britain, but for america as well. Max, youre learning new details about the state dinner that is going on right now. Reporter they are munching through this spectacular menu. I dont think the americans or the american side of this had any say on this, because its particularly british, actually. Weve got steamed fillet of h l halibut with watercress mousse, windsor lamb with the second course, followed by lemon and v verbena cream. And youve got a selection of fresh fruits for dessert as well as coffee. These dinners are huge. Buckingham palace putting all of these meals together, they travel with the queen and serve all of the staff, but there is their big event, really. So you can bet theyll be hoping it goes down well. Senior businessman, its interesting looking at the guest list. When barack obama came here, there were a lot of celebrities and showbiz people as well as businesspeople. All sorts of people they want reflected today. All surrounded by pomp and circumstance. President trump also raising some eyebrows in london. How hes already bucking tradition in the uk. President trump making his first state visit to the United Kingdom. He was greeted by royal pageantry. He received some gifts from queen elizabeth. He met Prince Charles for afternoon tea. But shortly before he stepped out of his plane, he continued his feud with the mayor of london. President trump has been saying some things that could have made this all royal rly awkward, butt doesnt seem to have, at least in front of the cameras. The president seemed to revel in his ability to really create controversy as he landed here in london earlier this morning. But the royal family tried their best to keep the pageantry perfectly calibrated to his tastes. Today, the british royals treating President Trump to a longdelayed state visit, chockful of the gilded grandeur that President Trump craves. The splendid of the monarchy and the power of the United Kingdoms military on full display, as President Trump soaks in aspectical reserved for select few. And paying tribute to fallen world war i soldiers during a solemn ceremony at westminster abbey. The royalty putting aside their differences with trump today, prince harry even attending a private lunch the queen hosted for the president , but hanging back as the first family inpekted the royal artifacts, just days after President Trump said, i didnt know that she was nasty, when told that prince harrys wife, the duchess of sussex, meghan markle, criticized him in 2016. And Prince Charles hosting the trumps at his home, clarence house, for a proper afternoon tea, despite the fact trump erroneously suggested the princes cause, climate change, is a chinese hoax. The only hitch in his perfectly coordinated visit coming from trump himself, who fired off two caustic tweets aimed at londons liberal mayor, sadiq khan, just minutes before touching down. Attacking him as a stonecold loser and commenting on his height. And there could be more controversy ahead. Trump leaving the door open to meetings that could place him squarely in the middle of the uks messy domestic politics. Just days before theresa may is expected to step aside as party leader, trump going out of his way to praise, but not formally endorse a top critic who is running to replace her, Boris Johnson. Well, i may meet with him. Hes been a friend of mine. Hes been very nice. I have a very Good Relationship him. Reporter trump also suggesting that he might meet with Brexit Campaigner nigel farage during this visit. I may meet with him. They want to meet. Well see what happens. Sources telling cnn that british officials at 10 downing street are working to prevent these meetings from occurring. And a u. S. Official also telling cnn that there are no plans yet for trump to meet with the two men. And tomorrow is when all of the political elements of this come to a head. President trump is starting his day with a meeting with Business Leaders in which the trade deal that he wants to have with the british is going to be a topic of conversation. Then hell meet with theresa may, where a lot of the thornier issues that the United States wants to deal with the uk government on will come on to the table. There will also be a press availability between President Trump and theresa may. Yet another opportunity, jake, for the president to go offscript. Indeed. Abby phillip, thanks so much. Lets bring in my experts, kaitlan collins, let me start with you. There are a lot of potential political land mines that the president is facing here. Yeah, this trip is supposed to be mostly ceremonial. The entire trip that the president is taking, later going to normandy, ireland, of course. But the question is, whats going to happen when the president does meet with theresa may tomorrow. Because, of course, shes leaving her party on friday. Thats the slated expectation time right now, but they still have a lot to talk about. Not only brexit, but also a potential trade deal. Theyve got these threats from china can iran that they also talking about. So theres a lot on the table besides just the pomp and circumstance that you saw the president going through today visiting with the queen. And thats the question Going Forward, because, of course, the president has undermined theresa may at times, just days before going on this trip. So white house officials are looking to see what that trip tomorrow is going to look like. And nia, this is a state visit that involves a lot of tradition, a lot of protocol for a president who frankly defies all of that back home in the u. S. Thats right. And revels in defying that, but in some ways revels in this, as well. The sort of pomp and circumstance. Weve seen different foreign leaders kind of roll out the red carpet for him and him kind of exaggerate and essentially say, this is the biggest celebration of american president weve ever seen. Obviously, not the case here, with donald trump. It was the same with george w. Bush and barack obama, as well. But youre right. In terms of wanting to upset the apple cart, theyre picking a fight with the mayor of london or they are continuing a fight that really began in 2015, in calling him a loser there. This is a president that sort of cant help but to make things about himself, even though this is a visit that is really about america. Its about the tradition, the relationship between america and britain there, as you heard the queen talk about in that toast, the president talking about it as well there. But this is classic donald trump in terms of not really wanting to follow the script that most american president s follow. And richard, lets talk about that. Because obviously the royal family, theyre keeping a stiff upper lip, as it were. But President Trump responded to a negative oped by the mayor of london, by calling him a stonecold loser. He was interviewed by the sun, newspaper, and they told him that plameghan markle had said e notsonice things about her in 2016, and he replied, i didnt know that she was nasty, then lied about saying that. And now he seems to be backing a rival of theresa may, Boris Johnson. How is this actually playing when the cameras arent around . Its playing badly for the British Public. This is a president who has a 21 Approval Rating than brits. Thats several points lower than theresa may, the outgoing Prime Minister, whos widely considered to be a complete disast disaster, and 51 points lower than barack obama. These comparisons are not good for him. What happens behind closed door with the queen is supremely disciplined. Shes the queen of no comment and shes going up against the king of foolish comment. So their rap poporrapport, they those statesman like photos. The more silent he is, the better. Because every hour, every day hes out there on twitter saying something thats much less statesman like. And kristin, late last night, theres this group in london that projected these images on london landmarks. One is a red baseball cap with the name of the uss john mccain, projected on to the Madame Tussauds building in london. Thats a reference to the ship that white house aides asked the u. S. Navy to move so President Trump wouldnt be the upset to see the name of a muchadmired war hero and republican senator who the president didnt like and who died last year. And of course, there are the poll numbers. I dont know if theyre the exact same numbers that richard was just referring to, but they are similar ones of uk Approval Ratings of obama versus trump. And then, of course, theres the balloon. So there is this attempt to troll the president by certain members of the british lipublic. And certainly. I think its unfortunate. Again, this is supposed to be a visit about the United States having the special relationship with the uk. I think in terms of Public Opinion, something that President Trump is focused on and why you hear him bring up things like brexit and wanting to meet with nigel farage is that he views that brexit as having been a prologue or prelude to his own vote of being the president of the United States. I think thats how he views the narrative of brexit, being connected to his own political fortunes here in the u. S. And the brexit party led by farage just had a very good showing in the eu elections over there in the uk. So i suspect thats the piece of Public Opinion youre going to hear President Trump sort of latch on to and talk about more. Because i think he views there sort of being a large portion of the British Public that wants brexit, and him viewing that indirectly support for his own sort of style of politics. And you also have to look at this trip and the difference between the last time the president visited the uk, last year, when he did not go into london, where there were a slew of protests that we saw. The president was instead out at checkers and instead hes in the heart of the city this time. Thats what makes it different about the protests. But in response to the president being a Disruptive Force in london, you have to look at the threshold of that. Last year when the president was there, he gave that explosive interview to the sun, when he said Boris Johnson would make better Prime Minister than theresa may, long before she was slated to step down as she is on friday. So the threshold seems to be a lot lower than the last time he visited there. All right, everyone, stick around. Russia, are you listening . President trump has yet to fully embrace publicly the findings of his own intelligence community. He didnt bring up russian interference in his last phone call with vladimir putin. His lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, a few weeks ago told me, quote, theres nothing wrong with taking information from russians. And now a stunning statement from the president s adviser and soninlaw, Jared Kushner, telling axios that hes not sure he would alert the fbi if russia came calling again, defending participating in that 2016 trump tower meeting with a russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton. As cnns Jessica Schneider reports for us now, this was one of the many eyebrowraising responds made by the top president ial adviser. Jared kushner brushing off questions about his role and responsibility when russians offered dirt on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election, during a rare sitdown interview with axios. Were in a place now where people are playing monday morning quarterback and theyre being so selfrighteous. Reporter kushner attended the controversial meeting inside trump tower in 2016 alongside donald junior and then Campaign Manager paul manafort. They met with natalia vessel niin i its. Kushner says he simply showed up and left soon after. I get an email that says show up instead at 4 00 instead of 3 00 at a meeting that i didnt know what it was about. I stay up at the meeting, stay for 15 minutes, its a clown show let me finish. I text my assistant who says, give me a call to get me the hell out of here. Would you call the fbi if it were happen again . I dont know, its hard to do hypotheticals. Reporter also questioned about allegations from alexandria ocasiocortez that t president is a racist. Have you ever seen him or do anything that you would describe as racist or bigoted . So, the answer is no, absolutely not. Reporter but kushner couldnt defend trumps bogus birther conspiracy, where he falsely suggested that the first africanamerican president was born in africa. Who knows about obama . His mother was a u. S. Citizen born in kansas. So was he a naturalborn citizen . Who knows . Who knows . Who cares right now. Were talking about something else, okay . I have my own theory on obama. Was birtherism racist . Look, i wasnt really involved in that. I know you werent. Was it racist . Like i said, i wasnt involved in that. I know you werent. Mmhmm. Was it racist . Look, i know who the president is and i have not seen anything in him that is racist. So i was not involved in that. Did you wish he didnt do that . Like i said, i was not involved in that. That was a long time ago. Jared kushner was also questioned about President Trumps Campaign Pledge to ban muslims from traveling here to the u. S. That was a pledge that was ultimately resulted in a version thats currently in effect that does restrict travel from several muslim majority countries. And jake, kushner avoided answering whether he supported the president s pledge or policy, saying instead that he believes the president is doing great things for this country. Jake . All right. Jessica schneider, thanks so much. Lets bring our panel back in. And i should note that axios and hbo airs on our sister channel, hbo. So its the fact that the president s soninlaw was not able to say that he would alert the fbi if he received similar outreach from the russians is pretty remarkable. Did it surprise you . Its astonishing. Look, you can be in the Trump White House and you can claim that mueller didnt establish a concrete case for the conspiracy question, the collusion question, but what mueller said quite clearly in his last Public Comments is that russia interfered with the election and hacked into email servers, attack one candidate in favor of donald trump and that the country needed to be prepared for the next time. Clearly this white house is not prepared for the next time. And its no wonder that Jared Kushner couldnt get a security clearance without the help of his fatherinlaw when he makes statements like this. And kristen, it does seem as though, based on everything were seeing from kushner, giuliani, the president himself, that they havent necessarily learned the lesson as everyone else agrees, the russians tried to interfere in the election. And next time, they should all go right to the fbi if it ever happens. Yeah, certainly, knowing what we know now, the idea that theres somebody coming who has connections to the kremlin and they want to meet you to talk about some dirt, knowing what we know and seeing what weve seen over the last few years, it should be pretty clear that you should alert authorities. Remember what some of these folks, though, like yJared Kushner, a political novice, this was his first campaign. Theres a big difference. You could say, i had no idea, which is what it sounds like hes trying to do in that interview, it was a garbage meeting, i walked in, walked out. Knowing what we know now. He could say, rookie mistake, i didnt know it was going to be a big deal. But now we know assist big deal. The one thing that we should be able to agree on across parties is that there are other people in other countries who would like to undermine our democracy and cause trouble where they can. We should alert authorities because of that sflp and lets remind our viewers what Rudy Giuliani said on state of the union. In april after the Mueller Report was released. Theres nothing wrong with taking information from russians. So you would have accepted information from russians against a candidate if you were running in the president ial i probably wouldnt. I would have advised out of excess of caution, dont do it. But kushner wouldnt even say that, now, knowing what i know, out of an excess of caution, i wouldnt do it. He just seemed ill prepared for this interview. Again, hes been in this position for two years now. He has a pretty huge proifrortf and the idea after all of these many months of scrutiny that the Mueller Investigation had scrutiny, about russian interference in the 2016 campaign has had, you would think he would be more prepared for this question. But it goes back to he doesnt want to be seen as criticizing his actions. He doesnt want to be seen as criticizing his fatherinlaws actions. And hes pretty much toeing the party line here. Rudy giuliani under some scrutiny more recently about whether or not hes willing to take any sort of help from a Foreign Government in terms of the 2020 campaign. So i think you do this hesitancy because of the script that dr donald trump has followed. Youve even seen this from william barr when he was testifying before the senate. Someone asked him a similar question about any interference from a Foreign Government . He sort of hedged on it, as well. I think this comes from donald trump. They want to toe the party line and he said it pretty, i think forcefully over these many years. Although, caitlin, throughout the trump presidency, there would be leaks from ivanka and jared that they didnt approve of step x that was going on, whether it was the muslim ban or whatever. And here you have Jared Kushner refusing to say that birtherism, accusing the first africanamerican president of secretly, obviously, a false charge, being born in africa, here you have him not saying not attacking it, not agreeing that its racist, but also, he didnt defend it, which was also seems to get at the idea that in some ways, jared and ivanka kind of are trying to have it both ways sometimes. And its not just them. This is actually a widespread feeling you see throughout the administration and especially in the west wing of these staffers who believe that they can help the president advance his agenda without subscribing to his personal politics. Without believing the things about birtherism. He was also asked about abortion. There are several things in this interview and you can see how they are trying to break with the president and distance themselves in certain ways without it looking like theyre breaking with the president. Thats a widespread thing we see throughout this. But this interview in particular caught the eye of a lot of people inside the west wing today, jake, who were asking me about how he seemed ill prepared to answer these questions. It seemed like pretty obvious questions he was going to get, especially about the saudi crowned prince. And they were kind of surprised at why he did this interview. Cnn is learning that the House Oversight committee is planning to vote on Holding Attorney general bill barr and commerce secretary wilbur ross in contempt of congress. Cnns ma y manu raju joins me n. What is this about . This is about the Citizenship Question on the 2020 census. Democrats have been investigating how and why that was added to the 2020 census. They believe the administration has not been truthable. They been demanding documents and testimony, but theyre not getting those complied with. The reason why wilbur ross the commerce secretary will be held in contempt, is because the democrats had subpoenaed for 11 what theyre call highpriority documents, unredacted documents to be turned over to that committee. That has not been complied with. So wilbur ross could be held in contempt by the full house. Bill barr could be held in contempt very soon by the House Oversight committee. Because a senior justice official, john gore, was scheduled to testify under subpoena. He was deposed to come before the committee, but he did not appear because bill barr instructed him not. Because he said Justice Department lawyers should be present in the room. The committee said, no, that is not allowed under the rules. Now, in a letter today to the commerce secretary wilbur ross, Elijah Cummings says, this is all part of a larger coverup by this administration. He says this specifically, this coverup is being directed from the top. Although he says all subpoenas from congress are partisan and some are related to the russia probe. Neither claim is true. The subpoenas in this investigation were adopted on a bipartisan basis and this investigation has nothing to do with russia and what this investigation has to do with is why that Citizenship Question was adopted in the first place. The Administration Says it was an attempt to enforce the Voting Rights act. And democrats believe its an attempt to suppress how immigrants are counted and how house lines are drawn. That separate fight being fought out in the Supreme Court. The full house could vote to hold these officials and potentially others in the coming days from those demands are not met. And there was that new document uncovered that was released last week in relation to the Supreme Court case, having to do with the applying origins and whether or not someone was trying to figure out a way to have democrats get fewer seats in congress. The exact opposite of what the administration has been claiming. Manu raju, thank you so much. Appreciate it. The new and aggressive tactic a handful of 2020 democrats are embracing to try to get ahead in an incredibly, historically crowded field. Stay with us. This is not a bed. Its a revolution in sleep. In our 2020 lead today, democratic president ial candidates taking their shots at the frontrunner without even needing to mention his name. Joe biden was the obvious target at the California Democratic convention. Biden didnt make the trip, and as cnns leyla santiago reports, based off the crowds reaction to other more moderate democrats, that might have been for the best. Reporter a heated weekend for 2020 Democratic Candidates thanks to protesters hey hey, hey, hey, hey and progressive audiences. And each other. You know, joe biden can do what he wants to do. Im going to work hard. Reporter president ial hopefuls campaigns in San Francisco took a more aggressive approach in some cases to distinguish themselves and their opponents. Some taking aim at frontrunner joe biden. We cannot go back to the old ways. We have got to go forward with a new and progressive agenda. We have got to make it clear that when the future of the planet is at stake, there is no middle ground. Reporter biden did not show up for the Democratic Party convention in california. The state with the largest number of delegates in an earlierthanusual primary in 2020. Our country is in a time of crisis. The time for small ideas is over. The riskiest thing we could do is try too hard to play it safe. My name is joe biden instead, biden kicked off gay pride month at a Human Rights Campaign gala in ohio, seemingly unfazed by my direct or indirect criticism made by fellow candidates. Some of his fellow candidates heard from the crowd. Socialism is not the answer medicare for all may sound good, but its actually not good policy, nor is it good politics. Then there was this. A protester rushing the stage towards senator Kamala Harris, forcing her to walk off and her husband, doug elmhoff to step in and pull the microphone away from the protester, later tweeting, i love Kamala Harris and would do anything for her. And bidens campaign declined to comment about the criticism, but you know, as we talk about the criticism and kind of see it ramp up on the campaign trail, important to note, theres this thing called we are indivisible pledge, this which 17 candidates have signed on, pledging to make the primary constructive. One of those who has not signed on is joe biden. Jake . Leyla santiago, thanks so much. Lets bring the experts back. Take a listen to some of the other veiled jabs that 2020 democrats took at joe biden over the weekend. Some say if we all just calm down, the republicans will come to their senses. But our country is in a time of crisis. Time for small ideas is over. We dont need a crime pill. We need a hope bill nia, we seem to be in a new phase of the 2020 campaign. Democrats will step up their attacks on joe biden. Even if they dont say his name, its clear who theyre talking about. These arent veiled mentions at all. It will be interesting to see if they take the gloves off even more and start to name him. The big date on the calendar is the dates coming up. Well see if they want to use their time being not so much time. Because so many people will be on stage. Do they want to spend their time introducing their own ideas . But its clear, biden is a frontrunner. The question is, is he a strong frontrunner or a weak frontrunner . They think hes a bit of a weak frontrunner, you know, the argument is that hes not out meeting voters in a way that some of these other candidates are, as often as they are. But, listen, he is still in an enviable position, being as far ahead as he is, in such a crowded field. And kristen, biden was not at the convention in california. And as you heard, bidens team declined to comment on any of this. But instead, this weekend, he was going after President Trump and the trump administration. Hes running as a frontrunner. Do you think its smart for his team to ignore the democratic field, essentially, and focus only as President Trump . At the moment, 100 . Of course, as the debates unfold, hell be on a stage with other contenders and have to defend his ideas from whatever those criticisms or attacks look like from the rest of the field. But i think hes being smart. Going onstage somewhere where people are getting booed for saying we shouldnt become a socialist country is probably not going to be the kind of audience whos going to praise someone whos going to be a little bit more moderate or lets bring everybody together kind of figure. So i think he made the smart play in choosing to sit that one out. And take a listen to democratic congressmans seth moulton. I asked him about bidens vote in favor of the war in iraq that moulton fought in as a marine. Take a listen. It was a mistake. We should have been a lot more careful about going into iraq. We should have questioned the intelligence. We should have made sure that we exhausted every opportunity before we put Young American lives in danger. Four tours in iraq. He has a right to make that argument. What do you make of it . Yes, he does. And its a replay of 2007 8. Wuf a frontrunner making the electability argument, but a core question that the democrats really arent with you on, then your long record, the very thing that gives you that strong platform and electability start to look like a very weak thing. And Hillary Clinton suffered from having that voting record. Remember, that president clinton said that barack obama, well, he didnt have to vote on this, he just gave a speech. But being in that position, standing for more change, not less change, thats really where the heart of this Democratic Party is right now and thats where it was in 2007. Kaitlan . Yeah, you can see that. And thats going to be what the president in his campaign are trying to frame this as as they were Going Forward in 2020. Theyre going to be hoping to use their past decisions against them. Its going to be interesting to see if that works. Weve seen the president try to do it when he was overseas in tokyo. We can expect him to continue to do it while hes overseas this week. The question is, how is it going to shape and affect the democratic primary. All right, everyone, stick around.
