Clearly, they think the paper statements havent done enough to quell the fire. They were hoping to not add oxygen and the Vice President saying i get it, i get it, is his sign that he does understand. Hes trying to validate these concerns, but also im told he wants to explain himself. Thats exactly what he did today in this video. Where we also said this. Both vermont senator sanders and kamala harris, said the campaign would note they had starts since they launched their campaigns in january and february respecti respectively while orourke launched in march and had 18 days before the deadline. Orourkes campaign touted an average donation of 43 from 218,000 contributions. Though it did not reveal how many individual donors contributed. He was the first president ial candidate to take the stage before a Civil Rights Organization founded by al sharpton, who made sure to give specifics, asking orourke to make a committee so study reparations. Look, i dont think bidens overly affectionate behavior is harassment. I dont think its menacing. I dont think a power play. I do think its a good reminder to men, our bodies are not up for grabs. They are not for the taking. So unless you have a very close personal trust with someone, dont grab. Dont breathe down my neck. I think the statement was good. I worry that democrats though, say for the record, democrats have a better record handling Sexual Assault and harassment within the party. Although thats not what this is. I agree. Ooip saying with a couple note bable exceptions named bill and Hillary Clinton. I think some risk looking like they are angrier at joe biden for his hugs. Than they have been with bill clinton and Hillary Clinton. Bill for his rape allegations and hillary for demeaning and discrediting his women accusers. So i wouldnt over second it. So bidens taking it from all sides now and theres a real question in viability if he weathers this. Then hell be a real candidate. If not, its over. Beto orourke with 9 million raised. Now hes, his people argue he was only in the race for 18 day s as opposed to harris, since january. Sanders since february. But this is a back to reality for orourkes campaign, i think. Kind of except that no one heard of this guy a year ago. This was a phenom nenon that ca on in texas. Challenged ted cruz and came close to having an upset there. And so if now based on those inflated expectations, if he doesnt raise a billion dollars in a second, hes crash iing an burning. If you take a step back, this guy shouldnt be in the race at all. He lost you know, to head ted cruz, a nat race. He should be at home watching this with the rest of us and hes out there raising this much money. I sometimes think the expectation game gets a little houf hand. I think hes doing well for somebody who shouldnt be in the race and i think he will have more staying power than todays story. John, i think that its fair to say senator Bernie Sanders when it comes to polls, among the declared candidates, declared. When it comes to polls. Fund raising. To the number of contributors. To the dollar amounts. Without question, sander ss the front rub runner. Thats the caveat youre making. Youve got to say thats true for bernie, but he benefits from a broad field. Once you get biden in that, then the top tooer, biden best sanders in most polls. I think bernie has a very intense, devoted cod ray. He shaped the direction of a party and in a wide primary, could his 20, 25 of hard core supporters be enough, maybe. But the second boyden gets in the race, that statement is no longer operative. I think we know what this is about. Can he handle a left ward drifting party. Not his first rodeo. We should point out that theres a lot of talk online now especially on sanders supporters about the column by the Washington Post dana milbank who wrotes that bernie is the trump of the Democratic Party. Its not difficult to picture a scenario where bernie captured the population with the same formula that worked for trump in 2016. Forgetting the hair and the new york accent and all that stuff, it is easy to look at the race and say lots of candidates, a guy with a very strong following in 30 of the voters like trump in 2016 that bernie could do that in 2020. Win the nomination. People underestimated sanders the entire time he was running against Hillary Clinton last time. The guy got 47 of the vote. Against the entire Clinton Obama machine in a year that Hillary Clinton should have had a run. And he never stopped running for president. He just changed it to medicare for all. Ive been with bernie, you know, in states and places where hes getting two, three, four, 5,000 people to come out to hear him give the speech theyve heard a million times. Nine months ago, 12 months ago, 16 months ago. He never stopped running for president. Hes got a bigger social media operation than some who do it professionally. Corporate. So im just saying people continued to underestimate the insurgency in our own party. Thats like the only thing they have in common. Can i just say . Crazy. First, we should say no one is like trump. You see the secret service is really at the mercy of the maralago management and staff when it comes to who is alloweded access to this private club u and thats where the problem began over the weekend. The secret service pushes back on the notion that this was a Security Breach because one official tells me they had eyes and ears on this woman through u every step of her journey on the property and when her story finally fell apart after a series of lies, they were there to take action immediately. What is a Chinese National doing with malware in maralago and what kind of serious National Security replications could just that have let alone the rest of it . Look, this is a walking conflict and the idea as she said in her piece that maralago might be vulnerable to the bad actors is an instant classic of understatement. Driven by the president whos callous or careless about the issue. It strains the nerves of those agents so badly to have someone whos cooperating so little with so much at stake. Its just not fair to secret service or the country. And if i could just say, some of these lies are about, it doesnt matter where his dad was born. His father, rest in peace, doesnt matter if he was born in the bronx of germany, in terms of policy. Im glad you brought up puerto rico. There are lies that are inexplicable and then there are ones that have to do with people suffering and american policy. The problem b is they all get lumped together and we start to normalize behavior. The apparatus of the white house starts to exist to try to contain the president and becomes a giant delusion machine. Its been authorized, but has not been issued, so were going to wait and see if theyre able to work something tout to make this report at least available to congress if its not available publicly. If that doesnt happen though, we could see him move forward with this subpoena, which could set up a fight in court about whether the grand jury material could be handed over to congress. The Justice Department today is not commenting on this authorization, but bill barr has set a goal to make some version of this report public by mid april and well see if his plans change at all in the wake of this subpoena threat. The likelihood is that a judge come down in favor f what barr has done and this goes back to the statute that empowered Robert Mueller. So pick a fight youre going to win. S.
