So we predicted that wisconsin could go red, but we were more hopeful probably than seen data on the ground and it was a good night for us as republicans. First time republican went red since 1984. And ron johnson was reelected. We feel good in the badger state turning it red from blue. And yeah, ready to go. So, i just i want to ask you, you saw the incidents of violence, racially, antisemitic graffiti. Supporters have been committing some much these acts. Opponents of trump have been committed some of these acts. Do you think that president elect trump should do more to address the country to encourage unity especially where he said a lot of things that offended a lot of people. The video of a man getting beaten outside of his car. Theres also one of a young girl, a sophomore beaten up in high school by another girl because she was a supporter of trump. We see the protests in the streets that are causing criminal damage to property. I think what we need is both mr. Trump, mr. Obama, and mrs. Clinton to all talk to the American People and say listen, lets stand down. We had an election. Thats what we do in america. We have a debate, it can get tough, once its over and we declare a winner, we accept the votes at the ballot box. Lets not take to the street. Lets not beat each other up. Lets not, you know, lets not put discriminatory things in our bathrooms or monuments, but it takes both sides to calm this thing down. And you know, jake, that wikileaks indicated that it was the liberal side of the Democrat Party that was trying to formt violence within trump rallies and make it seem like donald trump was a man of violence, but theyre instigating that as wikileaks exposed. I think again, barack obama has a very strong voice and he can help calm the country. And so too can hillary. I think donald should be part of that as well. Mr. Trump is currently deliberating over whom to make his chief of staff. Our reporter says i had personally wants steve bannon media to do it. Either as a white house chief of staff or as a Senior Advisor. As im sure you know, many progressive groups, including the Sovereign Poverty Law Center are critical of bannon for things that breitbart has said about minorities, not to mention attacks against the republican establishment including your good friend speaker ryan. What do you think about a bannon appointment . Well, listen, this is mr. Trumps choice, but from my perspective, i look at Reince Priebus who is up for this position. And wisconsin guy, jake. But, reince is good friends with paul ryan and has the ear and the trust of donald trump. And if you want to get legislation through the congress, and get the president to sign it, theres one guy to bring all vooupts together and be the grease and the wheel to make legislation work. And thats Reince Priebus. And so i think he would be the best choice. I dont know that he wants the job. Its a tough job. I think reince would be the best guy because he knows all the players and all the Players Trust him because hes a straight shooter. So, but again, mr. Trump will make a decision whos best to lead his team in the white house. But reince and his relationships, i think bode well for the Republican Party as a whole. In an interview with the wall street journal, just published, first interview since becoming president elect. Mr. Trump told reporters he wants to keep some pieces in place including the insurers denying coverage because of a patients preexisting conditions, in addition the measure that allows kids to stay on their parents insurance plans up until i believe age 25 or 26. As someone who wants obamacare completely repealed and replaced, is that acceptable to you or do you want the whole thing gone . Well, first of a one theres principles i agree with. That just gets to be really expensive and drives up the cost. And so, i think we have to look at different parts of obamacare that are working. And maybe repackage them in a new way. Also a lot of this doesnt work, jake, in my community. And we have people having a hard time paying their mortgage and when they get a 20 or 25 increase in their cost of health care. They cant afford this stuff. And so, we have to have a significant remake of health care and well sit down with mr. Trump and see what he likes and doesnt like and make our decisions from there. Some are suggesting that priebus still seems to have the inside track on the chief of staff job, but either way, steve bannon seems to be headed to a senior role and that has many americans, including many republicans in washington quite nervous. As one of the few who took Donald Trumps president ial potential seriously before almost anyone else, and as an architect of trumps take no prison strategy, steve bannon is the man that trumps gut tells him should be the white house chief of staff. I dont think people realize how far outside of the mainstream some of the ideas are that the breitbart website has promoted. Its been racist, its been homophobic, its been antiimmigrant. Many Establishment Republicans found themselves agreeing with Hillary Clinton when she took on bannon and breitbart in august. Bannon guided trump to take his campaign and american politics into places that Establishment Republicans found uncomfortable. He was a major force behind trumps decision to appear with women who accused bill clinton of sexual assault. Regardless of trumps own vulnerabilities on that issue and that access Hollywood Tape that had come out before. Grab them by the pussy. Trump, who was general societal niceties. And you can tell them to go themselves. Bannon was a good fit. In 2007, bannons exwife accused him of making antisemitic remarks trying to keep his daughters from attending a school with jews. Bannon created a home for white supremacy, White Nationalism online. And the danger now, of course, is that hes going to provide a home for it in the white house. They saw the movement of the people rising up against the government really before anyone. He chooses steve bannon, shows hes going stick to his roots. First of all, before we get to Reince Priebus, i know you want to talk about him. Before him, what do you make of the first governing decision that donald trump has made demoting Chris Christie and putting mike pence in charge of the transition . Well, mike pence is his Vice President ial nominee, will be the Vice President , hes going to play a huge role i think as youre putting a Transition Team together, you needed experienced hands. This is an outsider government coming in, but he put mike pence on the ticket for a reason. And so now youve got an experienced hand come in. Oofbl youre asking mel because of the Chris Christie side of this. I cant speak to what the decision was there. We know that there are some difficulties the governor of new jerseys facing. Mike pence was going to play a big role. In some ways, its like lets get on with pence. Let me ask you about the talk that steve bannon might be the white house chief of staff. And if not, at least a Senior Advisor. He had always said, steve bannon said he was going to go back to Breitbart News after the election. Thats not necessarily going to be the case. Ill ask you about Reince Priebus in a second, what about steve bannon. Is that something that might alienate americans . It alienates, the 60 plus million folks who already did not vote for donald trump. I think further exacerbates that frustration. I think that just like proeb, you sent a very strong signal to the american when you first picked your chief of stap and send a strong signal to the hill. Hes sending a signal that says i am doubling down on an altright message. One that has ginned up my base, but alienated many of who you talked about an outsider message. And rahm emanuel to be first chief of staff. I think the same is true for steve bannon. You love or hate him. I know you support Reince Priebus and think he would be great. Do you think bannon both because of the things that breitbart has said about minorities and things he has personally said about minorities, but also because breitbart has gone after republican leaders, by name, even the speaker. That could hurt Donald Trumps ability as president. I think chief of staff matters more than anything. Bannon was in charge of the campaign. Hes going to be in the administration. I think, you know, theres nothing surprising about that. And hes going to play a role. I think the person whos the chief of staff really matters because theyre overseeing all of these things. Theyre bringing all the people together to enact. President s agenda, to hire the staff, the cabinet, all those sorts of things. Look at the decisions were already seeing president elect trump make. Hes already named a Transition Team as we mentioned. Reince priebus is listen to as chief of staff. Members of congress are on there. People in washington are being named to the transition named here. Bannon may be a part of the administration, its not the only story. I think youre starting to see that president elect trump wants to work with people. Hes starting to realize hes got an agenda to put forth. Hes bringing people into the administration already that can get the job done. Con flakt flikting message, on one hand steve bannon potentially being chief of staff. On the other hand, mike pence who is very much a d. C. Insider. A Transition Team that is full, youre talking about draining the swamp, full of lobbyists, like full of lobbyists. And then youre Transition Team executive committee has three trump children on it. So its just interesting to see the grown children. In their 20s and 30s. Grown kids, but theyre three trumps on the Transition Team. So its very much incestuous. Its very much one that is not im not saying that in a nasty way, its more of the same. Trumps family has run his businesses, now theyre also planning in some way to plan how he runs the government. And he also is saying on one hand, im going to run an outsiders game, but at the same time the insiders game and i might keep obamacare. Parts of obamacare, he said in an interview most important parts that we love and republicans hate. Republican reform plan of obamacare thats been introduced and contains those two provisions staying. To say they do, look at the bills that are introduced on the floor. The preexisting children and children 26 or under staying on the parents insurance. That doesnt mean youre keeping obamacare. Theres two provisions that every bill, serious reform bill introduced on the floor contains those two provisions. With major restrictions so again to be fair. And also, you know, youre saying his insiders. You cant have it both ways. You cant criticize trump for being outside and bring bannon in that could offend people, how dare he do that. No, iming involved with the campaign, they gave speeches at the convention. Everybody knows, as advertised, that they are Business People that are going to come and help guide him and his administration. I dont know theyre going to serve in government, but theyre going to be part of the Transition Team. I think thats exactly what people voted for. I wanted to ask you about the protesters see were across the country. Obviously there are horrific acts of violence and vandalism by people who are likely trump supporters. And weve seen acts of violence by people who oppose donald trump. What is the solution to this . Do you think its going to peter out on its own or agree with sean duffy that both president elect trump and president obama and even Hillary Clinton need to come out and start calming the country . I totally agree with that. My totally agree with that. They all have a role to play, in part because again when you look at the lek tort, the fact that Hillary Clinton did win the popular vote, she has a role to play in terms of leading us out of this division. So does donald trump nap means that at nighttime when you are free willing it, you cant tweet out something dangerous, potentially, egging on the protests or further exacerbating the protests and then turn around the next morning and encourage the protests. You have to be consistent and calming in your message. You have to reassure people that youre not here to destroy everything they loved about this president s legacy or to tear apart Hillary Clinton or to further tear her down. At some point, you have to say you know what, i am now commander in chief, i do need to play a leadership role and even my 140 characters on twitter will Say Something completely different. Im now going to be a positive spokesperson. Quick final thaought. It is up to the president elect. He has to lead if hill hillary won, shed had have 60 Million People voting against her as well. Thats one of the things he does. So if you look at his immigration plan, he talks about a wall. You know, something you visualize when he was answering questions about his comments about women, he mentioned Rosie Odonnell because you immediately go to that visual image and it takes you off the questions. When he talks about isis, he says theyre putting people in cages and chopping off heads. What he talks about is enthusiasm for his campaign and says look at the crowds. Look how big the crowds are. The visual senses most persuasive part of our brain. Now that hes been elected, which trump do you think will show up to do the job at the white house . The diplomatic president ial trump that we saw yesterday speaking to president obama or the one who waged a false campaign suggesting that the first African American president was born in africa . Which donald trump are the American People going to get . Well i think the good news is the office of the presidency is really powerful and its going to control the person in it for the most part. And the people are watching through social media, and theres that influence over him. Youll see in trump what i call ab testing. Thats the phrase from the Business World where somebody will try something and if it doesnt work out, they quickly reverse. Youve seen that with his immigration plan, started out pretty extreme, but with the publics opinion weighing in, that backed off to something thats pretty close to what the current policy is. You saw when he misspoke about abortion and how his opinion about punishing women who got illegal abortions. It took all of 24 hours for the public to say, that opinion doesnt work for us, and he immediately changed. You see it again in obamacare. You see the public saying, yeah we like you emotionally. We like what youre saying about getting rid of the bad parts, but now hes free to say some of the good parts hes going to see. Youre going to see where he rapidly tests a lot of stuff and hes going to keep the good stuff and get rid of the bad stuff. Hell probably do it quickly. One last thing before you guys go, i want to ask, you because youve been a trumpologist and also seen in many times, many instances to have supported donald trump, you have experienced something of a backlash, even when it comes to speaking engagements, is that right . Yeah, my speaking engagements dried up since i started talking about trump. They went to zero, thats how many i have on the books right now. But people also came to amazon and gave me one star reviews and status because of trump. People said they were calling newspapers to get dill better kicked out of newspapers, that sort of thing. Now when i go out to get funding for my startup, i dont know how hard thats going to be. My timing might be bad there, but overall, it was also the most fun year ive ever had in my life. Veterans struggle to reak la mate to the work force. 1. 4 million jobs is a big achievement, how did you do it . Well, it was something that took all of our federal agencies. D. O. D. All got together, a huge private sector. We had folks like Jpmorgan Chase leading the way and the chamber of commerce and small businesses. Is it just recruiting, looking for veterans. Is it educating companies to not be afraid of veterans. The second point is an important one. The best employees that you can have. A lot of times sometimes employers are afraid. Sometimes they dont understand the skills that a veteran learned in the military and how that translates to the civilian world. Skills translators have been a big part of the work that they will translate from the military to the private sector. And some of its just a commitment and awareness. One of the things the first lady says is every time weve asked a company to step up, theyve done it. And i know from my own experience working with veterans, it can be a very emotional thing because these people have given so much. I know there are probably too many stories to tell. Is there one particular individual or couple that has really meant a lot to the first lady . Well ill tell you on veterans day today, im thinking about one family weve met over several times for the last few years. John and melissa meadows. We first met them two years ago and john served three tours in iraq and afghanistan and came back with traumatic brain injuries and physical injuries. Melissa was part of a small group of spouse that the first lady met with that shared how difficult it was to support their veterans in the militaries. A Wounded Warriors and going through treatment. They have to leave their jobs sometimes and melissa talked about how different john was and what he was going through. That little conversation led to the d. O. D. Creating spousal networks across all their military folks, medical facilities after seeing the first lady and how important that was to spouses to get together. First lady and prince harry saw john and melissa a year later. John had gotten used art therapy and become a spectacular sculptor. She commissioned a piece to give to the president from john. Because art through his tdi he discovered this talent. And i got to see them this past august at a castles game when Jpmorgan Chase gave him the keys to a home. Thats amazing. And that just shows you an sector step up, leadership from the white house, having all of our agencies step up to help our families in the multitude of ways they need help and how much, you know, those of us who are not part of the military families owe to these men and women who served our country. Obviously this is a time of transition. The first lady Michelle Obama met with melania trump, the incoming first lady yesterday, tell us what you can about that meeting. It was a surprise, i think, that that was the meeting that took place, but beyond that, what did they discuss . Well, i think as you saw the first lady had mrs. Trump upstairs to the yellow oval for tea. Showed her around the residence. They went out on the balcony. She then went to the state floor youve been on that before. The state dining room together with the cure rater and showed her around that historical floor and the history of the art. And the two were able to walk over to the oval office and greet their husbands in the oval before the trumps left. So it was very gracious. And a warm time. And i think its a time for us as i think about this transition, im reminded that we feel in our experience how important it has been for the commander in chief and to step up for veterans and military families.
