The last poll numbers we saw out of iowa had had scott walker in the lead with donald trump behind him, now, trump has taken the lead. Is walker reacting at all . He is. Maybe if he did a philosopher, he would say, i think, therefore, i am. Hes doing something quite different. Hes calling him a democrat. The big question coming out of last weeks debate is whether trumps refusal to pledge allegiance to the gop would hurt him. This new poll said 55 of viewers said they were less comfortable with him as a candidate. Hes still topping the polls. Does it surn you at all . Its more of the same. Hes taking the same approach to all of these things which is a no holds barred approach. Theres an element out there that is sick of it. And theyre im seeing it and hearing it across this country. Theyre sick of the establishment dictating to them who our candidates are going to be. And setting rules to make that happen. I got into a conversation with donald trump about his approach to isis, which is, he wants to bomb all the oilfields in iraq. I want to play some of that for you and see what you think. I dont think iraq would want us to bomb their oilfields. Heres the government of iraq, there is no government in iraq. The socalled government in iraq went to iran to meet with iran. Iran is going to take over iraq, its as simple as that. I dont know that iraq, the government of iraq, or whatever you want to call them, would support our bombing the oilfields in iraq. Who cares. Okay. I dont care about the government, theyre corrupt. The government of iraq is totally corrupt. Thats your frontrunner, you were on the Senate Foreign affairs committee. Whats your reaction when you hear that . My reaction is, i have Serious Problems with the government of iraq too. And it is incredibly influenced by iran, and is doing the bidding a lot of iran. And i have concerns that we are fighting a war through them, very ineffectively. Because of them, were not arming the kurds, thats clear. Were not giving support to other sunni arabs in the region. I dont know if id use the term corrupt, but i would say, theyre certainly not ainlooing with aligning with us in making a fight against isis. His idea of bombing oilfields is a big mistake. We have to make sure that when we do take that territory back, that that area can be productive and stable economically, so i think the oilfield idea is i abad idea. But his idea that the government of iran and iraq are in cahoots and working together and causing problems for the United States to be successful is absolutely true. What do you think of a candidate when asked, the government of iraq wouldnt want you to do that, who cares. Thats the bravado, the substance. In this case, the substance, i generally agree with donald trump pp. Not the strategy of bombing all the oilfields. I think hes correct in that the Iraqi Government has been one of the biggest problems for us in being successful in defeating isis. Youve held 92 events in iowa over the last 38 days. Thats more than any other republican candidate. You are not doing great in this latest poll, what would your message be to a iowa an out there who supported you last time, and wants to support you again, i supported you last time, you didnt go on after iowa. I won iowa, but i didnt win until three weeks later. You give me the win out of the gate. We went on to win 10 other states, more than any other candidate since ronald reagan. He with did a pretty good job given the fact we didnt have a clean win until about a month into the campaign. You give us a good start, we have no doubt we can go on and compete in New Hampshire, South Carolina and across the country. We built a great grassroots organization, and we feel comfortable were going to be ready to take it on once we get through. At the undercard debate thursday night, you said this about whether the supreme courts decision to rule same sex marriage bans is unconstitutional. Its not any more than dread scott to abraham lincoln. Do you think its unnecessarily inflammatory to compare same sex ruling to dread scott. I was quoting justice roberts. He compared this decision to the dread scott decision. He said the rational for this decision is the same for dread scott, and in fact, i just took it one step further and said that, the president in that case. Knowing that this case was unconstitutional in its basis, said that the president has a role in enforcing the constitution too. Let me ask you, looking deeper inside the iowa poll. 55 of the republicans who watched the debate last thursday as dana pointed out. They said theyre less comfortable with trump as a candidate after watching his performance. What are the odds that you think he might actually get the nomination . P. I think the odds that he gets the nomination are zero. But the odds that he creates even bigger problems for the republican brand are high. If you look at how Rick Santorum rerespondeded to the donald trump interview. It was a whole series of me too, me too, me too. And not, wow thats what our party stands for. The party is where donald trump is, he says it in more colorful language. Every republican candidate came out, announced what he said about megyn kelly. I cant find a stain in Donald Trumps policies, at least the ones hes enumerated. Economies are better under democrats. Doesnt know if hes going to defund planned parenthood. Theres not a lot of conservative policy in his bravado. That said, i think we have to remember, whats going on here is a little bit of a core conservative base feels very burned. By 2008 and 2012. Being told, heres who is electable, heres who you have to vote for, our nominee is going to be john mccain, thats who you have to support. What do they get for that . They didnt get to vote on principle for their candidate, who may have been Rick Santorum or ricking huckabee and they didnt get a republican in the white house. Theyre a little tired of being told by folks like me or jeb ush about, that this guy, this guy you love, happens to be donald trump right now, is electable. Theyre sick of that. I dont know if its trump, or theyre wedded to the idea im going to get something out of this election, no matter what. Really quickly, on immigration, on choice, on Foreign Policy, on issue after issue, republicans are all in the same place that trump is, its just that trump says it in the most offensive of terms. I would look at the good aspects of it, and i would also look, im sure they do some things properly and good, and good for women. I would look at that. And i would look at other aspects also. But i will make a bet with you right now, that is not going to hurt him with the voters either, are the Republican Voters that want to defund planned parenthood. His supporters dont really seem to hold him accountable for policies or things hes said. I think youre right. The problem is, now, hes putting other republican candidates in a position to have to say, well, i agree with donald trump, or i completely disagree with donald trump, thats not who they want to be facing, they want to be facing Hillary Clinton, they want to be contrasting to Hillary Clinton. A 22yearold and 19yearold, both former Mississippi State university students, arrested saturday at the airport in columbus, mississippi. They planned to travel to syria to join the terrorist group. Theyre both americans, and they got passports to leave, so how did they get caught. The fbi met them at the airport when they were about to bored a flight to turkey, allegedly. Apparently they had been in communication with the fbi through social media for the past several months. Thats how they were on the fbis radar, this couple was using the fact its a newlywed couple, they were using the fact that they were going on their honeymoon as a coverup to the fact that they wanted to go to syria to join isis. Also, the man is a 22yearold, his name is mohammed decala. His wife, his new wife is a 20yearold woman. They were arrested at the airport as we said, on saturday in mississippi, and from the outside, this was a seemingly normal couple, as you see right here, young is the daughter of a vehicles burg Mississippi Police officer, she was studying chemistry. And she recently converted to islam, according to Law Enforcement officials weve been speaking with. He graduated last spring from Mississippi State, with a psychology degree, hes the son of a local imam. Heres what his former teacher had to say about him. Just a really nice kid. In july, she said on social media, she supported the shooting in chattanooga, tennessee that killed four marines. The two appeared in court today, and were denied bail. A new satellite image showing snow melting inside the hermit kingdom is raising concerns that the road regime is trying to create highly enriched uranium which is, of course, a critical component for building a nuclear bomb. And we notice that when the snow is melting then, you can see it melted consistently on one side where as here these new photos, what does it mean . They think it may mean theyve installed more centrifuges here. The activity is creating heat, but only in the places where theyre installed, that is a warning sign to james defense weekly that did this analysis. Ill tell you this as well, we know that u. S. Demonstrators threw bricks, rocks and frozen Water Bottles at them. The st. Louis county police sent out a message in a tweet saying this is no longer a peaceful protest, participants are now unlawfully assembled. Ryan young is live for us in ferguson. Ryan obviously, its a little early for protests to start yet. Have you been talking to people in the community . . Are people still angry . They are angry about last night. Theyre even angrier about that tweet. We talked to people who said they were in the street peacefully protesting when police surged into the street and tried to break them up. If they were allowed to march they won the have that confrontation last night, they were upset we know that 22 people were arrested, thats not the only incident that happened. There were some people that took to the highway and blocked traffic. We saw frustrated drivers. That got contentious for i asecond. 60 plus people were arrested during that confrontation. Theres been a lot of confrontation about the violence we saw sunday. Protesters are trying to get out of the story skak thely what happened. Theyre pointing back to the men who were involved. Is you can still feel a lot of anxiety around the area. We talked to people about changes needed in the area. I think what we saw in august was that the police the way the police acted could have a big impact on the crowd. Especially during the Peaceful Demonstrations in the middle of the day, when they were reporting sniper rifles at the crowd. Its not going to help the situation at all. It made the situation a lot worse. Youve been here before, we stood next to each other out here, a lot of interaction in in terms of focus on police officers. Wonderful, outstanding, they also do feel, they should still have the rights, to march down the street, and get the support from the Police Department in terms of blocking off roads. Author of her new memoir, plenty lady like. Senator, thank you so much. I want to get to your book in a second. I want to ask you a couple questions if i could. Its been one year and change since the death of michael brown. Systemic racial bias created what they call the toxic environment in ferguson. Based on what youve been seeing and hearing the last few days, has any progress been made between the police force and the community in ferguson . I believe there has been progress made. If you look in context, whats occurred over the last few days, weve had hundreds of people protest peacefully in st. Louis and in ferguson, sunday and monday. We had some criminals involved in something that had nothing to do with the protests, that fired upon police and caused the shooting of a young man whos been criminally charged. And then yesterday we had a lot of civil disobedience where arrests were made, and we had some clashing last night. By and large, we have made some progress in ferguson, and i think most of the people would say we have so much more work to do, we have an africanamerican leading the Police Department, they are working with justice to try to alleviate some systemic problems in in the Police Department. Weve done a lot, were making progress. The report criticizing the Police Department. They also released another report clearing Donald Wilson of any wrong doing in the shooting death of ronald brown. Releasing that report at the same time was essentially burying it, and doing a disservice to justice and public understanding of what happened. What do you think . I agree, i dont think the Justice Department should have issued the two reports the same day. The Justice Department did an independent examination of what happened that day. They looked at the physical evidence. There was a lot of physical evidence, they came to the exact same conclusion the grand jury did. It would have been better for the community to highlight that. We can work on that problem. But at least people in st. Louis would have realized the Justice Department came to the same conclusion as the st. Louis county grand jury. One of the things that the book deals with, mainly the main thesis is about how women are treated in politics, it starts with state legislators asking you when you were an intern, if you like to party, you said it made you feel trapped. And it goes on from there. Whats your take on the gender issues that have exploded on the campaign trail in the past few days, especially about megyn kelly and donald trump . I have to tell you, in the 30 some years ive been doing is this, ive seen some positive changes in that regard. More women getting elected. Less sexual harassment. Obviously its not all well. In the senate, its certainly, ive always been treated with respect in the United States senate. Whats surprising to me about the donald trump stuff, none of those candidates on that stage spoke out at that moment and said, wait a minute, that kind of derogatory comments about women are not acceptable to us, but they didnt. They were all so anxious to tiptoe around donald trump, they were not willing to state the obvious, and i think women noticed. The title of your book comes from when your challenger in 2012 said that you were not lady like in the debate. When you ran against him, you thought he would be the easiest one to beat. You tweeted this a couple days ago. I would definitely say donald trump . That would be cause for celebration for hillary . I think so. The American People want strength and stability in their president. Not someone whos going to pop off and Say Something outrageous on a world stage. We want a steady hand at the end of the day, donald trump may be a lot of things, but i dont think hes a steady hand. When you watch the republican debate, does part of you root for carly fiorina, because shes a woman, and you want women to be in politics more in this both the democratic and Republican Party . Of course, i think shes very strong and smart and accomplished. Although i happen to disagree with her on almost everything. So i want her to get her due, i want letter to be acknowledged for the strength that she possesses. Being strong and ambitious should not be something that women shy away from.
