Breaking news. We could get tantalizing clues about Robert Muellers final report at any moment. The special counsels last major court filing in the Paul Manafort case is due tonight. It may include new details about the former Trump Campaign chairmans russia contacts which are said to be at the heart of the mueller probe. Prosecutors in new york reportedly are preparing their own criminal charges against manafort. Its an effort to ensure manafort getting prison time, even if President Trump were to decide to pardon his federal crimes. Breaking, the New York Times reports the president s former lawyer Michael Cohen has given prosecutors new information about the trump Family Business. I will get reaction to all of that and more from the House Intelligence Committee member mike quigley. First, lets bring in our senior White House Correspondent pamela brown and our crime and justice reporter shimon prokupecz. The sentencing memo, its due today. Could be released any moment. What could we learn from this . We could learn a lot, wolf, depending on redactions, what prosecutors with Robert Muellers team decide to reveal. We could learn more about Paul Manaforts contacts after he was arrested and also his alleged lies to prosecutors. Also, there will be a lot of focus on what prosecutors reveal about manaforts contacts with kilimnik, his associate believed tied to russian intel who manafort shared Trump Campaign polling data with. Those communications go to the heart of what Robert Mueller has been looking at. So were going to be looking at these Court Filings when they come out before midnight, to see what prosecutors reveal. This is significant. This is one of the last opportunities for Robert Muellers team to provide details on its overarching theory, what they have been looking at about russian influence. He does often mueller releases details in the court documents. He does release a lot of details. Thats why every time we get word something is coming, we highly anticipate it. Were always trying to figure out, learn new things. Nothing is done quietly in these court documents. Theres usually something in there that can give us clues as to where this investigation is going, where things stand. Most importantly, its going to be very damaging for Paul Manafort. We heard a lot about Paul Manafort in the last month, how he breached his cooperation agreement. Thats going to certainly come up in these documents. Theyre going to be hard on Paul Manafort. They want the judge to see everything that they know about him that they can publically disclose. You saw this New York Times report moments ago that Michael Cohen, the president s former lawyer and fixer, spent a decade working with the president and the trump organization, that prosecutors in new york are now have questioned him about potential irregularities in the trump organization. Here is whats so interesting about the New York Times story. They say this information that Michael Cohen provided to prosecutors in new york came in the last month. That is what i find the most interesting, is that Michael Cohen is continuing to provide some cooperation, some information to prosecutors in new york. The New York Times says this is about the trump organization, insurance claims the company filed. They are interested, as we know, from these subpoenas that they gave to the inauguration committee, and a donor, who gave 900,000 to the committee, he was also trying to get to give money to Michael Cohen to do work for him. The most interesting to me certainly is that this information came to them in the last month. What is Michael Cohen trying to do . He could be trying to seek more leniency, hoping prosecutors would go to the judge and say, he provided us more information, were hoping to you can reduce list sentence. The longtime chief Financial Officer at the trump organization, he received immunity in exchange for his cooperation. He has. Its very limited. Specifically, to a certain issue that he was testifying about before the grand jury. Things could have changed since then. The Southern District of new yorks investigation, cl which know the president and his team are worried about, may have expanded sf ed expanded. Coming out days before Michael Cohen testifies publically on capitol hill. We know one of the topics is trumps businesses, the trump organization. This article lays out that he told prosecutors about irregularities with trump org and putting out putting out insurance claims. You can imagine lawmakers are that will help craft their questions. He testifies wednesday morning, 10 00 a. M. , before the House Oversight committee, an open session. There will be a lot of eyeballs watching that. Thanks very much. Tonight, as we await the new filing from Robert Mueller, President Trump is downplaying the potential bombshells in the special counsels final report. Lets go to kaitlan collins. We have breaking news. Thats right. The president made news on this friday night, announcing he is going to pick kelly knight kraft, the u. S. Ambassador to canada, to be the u. S. Ambassador to the united nations. She will be replacing nikki haley and the state Department Spokesperson who the president intended to nominate for this job. Last saturday night, she withdrew late in the evening. The president has picked a replacement saying on twitter that shes done an outstanding job representing the nation. Im quoting him now. He said, i have no doubt under her leadership our country will be represented at the highest lev level. We know this is someone that has been pushed by not only Mitch Mcconnell but also the secretary of state mike pompeo for this role. This comes on a day that the president had been taking questions in the oval office about Robert Mueller bringing his investigation to the end. The president said he hadnt discussed it with the attorney general. He believes when the report does come out, its going to be an honest report if this is a big if, it proves there was no collusion between the president s campaign and russia. Washington is bracing tonight as both ends of pennsylvania avenue await Robert Muellers final report. At some point i guess i will be talking about t. Reporter President Trump sounding confident the special counsels investigation will clear him. The nice part, there was no collusion, there was no obstruction, there was no anything. Thats the nice part. There was no phone calls, no nothing. Everybody knows its a hoax. I look forward to seeing the report. If its honest report, it will say that. If its not an honest report, it wont. Reporter a Justice Department official briefed on the plans telling cnn that at the moment, mueller is not expected to deliver the report next week while the president is in vietnam for his second summit with dictator kim jongun. Sources tell cnn, bill barr is preparing to announce that the investigation is over. After that, it will be up to him to decide how much congress and the public sees. Its up to mr. Mueller what the content is. Its up to the attorney general what the summary is that is presented to congress. Reporter aides insist trump is more focused on his upcoming summit than the report. I think were always prepared for a number of things that come at us. Our focus is not on the Mueller Report but its on doing our jobs. Reporter his twitter feed says otherwise. Trump tweeting today that the witch hunt is so bad for our country and must end. In the oval office today, trump, who has pledged to fight Human Trafficking, commenting on his billionaire friend and new England Patriots owner robert kraft after he was charged with soliciting prostitution. I was surprised to see it. He proclaimed his innocence totally. Im very surprised to see it. Reporter in the meantime, the president s attention is also focused on the 2020 candidate field. New reporting from cnn shows trump is eager to play a disruptive role in the democratic primary. In the words of one adviser, his team is looking for ways to cause chaos from the left and right. One republican who speaks to him often tells cnn the president wants to get into the game. People may knock him in terms of running the government, but he gets the campaign and cant wait to get started. Trump, who has closely watched democrats, has asked aides in recent days for political intelligence on joe biden. He is basically a 1 guy. He is weak. We will see what happens with him. Reporter the president is getting regular briefings from his 2020 Campaign Manager as he becomes fixated on who it is thats going to be running against him. Political season clearly heating up already. Kaitlan collins at the white house, thank you. As President Trump prepares to meet with kim jongun for a second time, his Administration May be poised to do backtracking. Lets bring in jim sciutto. He has the story for us. What are you learning about possible concessions that the Administration May be thinking about . Reporter its an important concession as trump prepares to meet with kim for a second time. His administration is weighing backing off an earlier demand that north korea agree during this upcoming summit to make a full accounting of its nuclear and missile programs as a prerequisite for any u. S. Concession. Multiple officials tell myself and my colleagues, the administration has been pressing north korea since the two leaders last summit to provide information about its nuclear capabilities, suggesting such an accounting would be a necessary outcome of any second summit. As recently as november, pence called such an accounting, quote, imperative. Have a listen. I think it will be absolutely imperative in this next summit that we come away with a plan for identifying all of the weapons in question, identifying all of the development sites, allowing for inspections of those sites and a plan for dismantling a nuclear weapon. Reporter not so fast. Administration officials describe that declaration as a longer term goal of the talks. In fact, theres an internal rift now opening up between members of the president s own National Security team over how much to demand from north korea and how soon. In particular, special representative from north korea steven vegan has drown skepticism from Trumps Administration that he may be overly willing to take steps that would satisfy the president s desire to make a deal. That accounting is important. Typically in a nuclear negotiati negotiation, you start with that accounting. Then you know what the other side will give up in any discussions of hemming in its Nuclear Program. Theres concern that the Administration May be thinking about giving up too much . Reporter this is coming from inside the white house that the president himself, his advisers privately raising concerns that the president could offer too much to kim at the summit, which he insisted upon after his first meeting in june garnered media attention. In that meeting, trump surprised his own advisors by agreeing to cancel joint war exercises. Thats a major concession. Aides are concerned more surprises could be in store this time around, including a formal peace declaration ending the korean war which trump found attractive because it would allow him to tout his role as a peacemaker. Listen to the president. We have had such a great relationship. China has helped us a lot with north korea and with kim jongun since i got to office. If i were not elected president , you would have been in a war with north korea. We now have a situation where the relationships are good, where theres been no nuclear testing, no missiles, no rockets. We got our hostages back. Reporter why the president s focus on peacemaking . Trump expressed a strong desire for a nobel peace prize. Apparently, thats serious. Are you hearing theres another one on one twohour meeting between the president and kim with only interpreters present . Reporter we know the first meeting is one on one. And with interpreters. We dont know if others will be present. Thats supposed to be private on wednesday next week with other meetings to follow. Its during a meeting like that that some of his advisers are concerned that he might make a concession that they werent prepared for. Wednesday and thursday, two days of summit in hanoi. Thanks very much, jim sciutto. Joining us now, congressman mike quigley. Thanks for joining us. What would President Trump have to accomplish in this second summit with kim jongun for you to visit to view it as a success . Look, i wish the president well. This is under the best of circumstances an extraordinarily difficult set of circumstances. I share the concerns that the president would make concessions without checking with his advisers. More importantly, working with our allies in the region. Its important to recognize a couple things though. No matter what they agree to, this all goes through beijing. And to a lesser etch textent, m. Unfortunately, they havent been shown a great willingness to make the accommodations we need to force the hand there. Finally, its very hard for me to imagine that the north will ever give up these weapons. Its going to take a whole another level of pressure exerted on a worldwide basis with our allies and with china and russia. So any Movement Toward that end would be welcome and seen as a victory. I share the concern of the advisers and others that the president who would like to get something accomplished given the noise and Everything Else thats happening in his world to distract from other considerations. Ive been told by experts the north koreans sensitive to the fact that gadhafi gave up his Nuclear Program and we know what eventually happened to him. They are sensitive to that. Lets turn, congressman, to the investigations into President Trump that are underway right now. The New York Times just reporting that Michael Cohen, his former lawyer, has been speaking to the Southern District of new york, the u. S. Attorney there, about irregularities within the trump organization. The Family Business, including insurance claims. Do you predict other avenues of investigation will continue even after the special counsel, Robert Mueller, concludes his work, presumably in the coming days . Absolutely. If the president or anyone else imagines that this is somehow magically over when the special counsel files his report, he is sadly mistaken. We know of a number of other criminal investigations that are taking place. The fact that this report will reveal extraordinary information that when congress eventually gets, it will have to address. We simply dont know what the full scope of the special counsels investigation involved and what is left, what gaps exist for congress to investigate. One of the things we have learned what we will be learning with manafort filings today, mr. Cohens testimony next week and the oversight investigation into saudi arabia and general flynn is let me put it this way. Richard nixon said the American Public has a right to know if their president is a crook. We have a good idea the president was surrounded by crooks. How far that went into the white house, were going to learn. Especially now. Whats more important is how did those financial dealings by manafort, by flynn, by mr. Cohen and others affect our Foreign Policy and kept us safe . We have learned in previous filings of the connections with mr. Kilimnik and a ukrainian peace plan favorable to the russians. Were going to learn from mr. Cohen hopefully more about the trump tower moscow meeting and the fact that the president as candidate was seeking relief from sanctions so that his deal could go forward. Not just as the president involved in these dealings. Did it impact national and International Policy . I know you are going to be questioning Michael Cohen behind closed doors, your house init will he geintelligence committe. Are there restrictions what you can ask him . Im not aware of how the restriction im aware theres concerns and restrictions that involves the meeting that will be in public. Some of that has to do with the the House Oversight committee. Im not aware if theres restrictions what he is willing to answer. I would like to think he will be more willing to talk about everything. Also, obviously matters that dealt with the connections between himself or other Trump Associates and the russians, how financial dealings worked with them. The trump tower moscow meeting, obviously, is of great concern. I think theres a lot of questions out there. Im hoping that he is willing to cooperate with us as well. I dont believe this will be a contentious hearing. I take mr. Cohen at his word that when he joined the trump world, he joined the world of darkness. He wants to come out from that darkness. Its my desire that this be a cooperative meeting and that a large part of what mr. Cohen wants is the American Public to understand what he was working with and just who the president of the United States is. Cohen will be testifying tuesday, wednesday and thursday before various house and senate committees. Congressman, thanks for joining us. Glad to be here. More breaking news ahead. He has been indicted on ten counts of felony sex abuse of four women, including three minors. Our National Correspondent sara sidner is working the story. The crimes span more than a decade. Whats the latest . Reporter this is huge. Really, it is. For decades, there have been accusations against r. Kelly, inappropriate behavior with minors, sexual behavior with minors. Those accusations have gone on for many, many, many years. Now we are hearing from the states attorney saying that he has been indicted and charged with ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse against three of whom are minors. There are four women that are listed. They are only their initials are listed. They have dates and times and some of the dates span several years that they have put into the charges and into the indictment. This is significant. We have known and reported that there was a grand jury that convened last week. We know that grand jury continued into this week. We know there were witnesses according to sources telling us that people had been coming in and out of the grand jury. We know about a videotape, a newly unearthed videotape that was brought to the States Attorneys Office last week. As we understood it, from Attorney Michael Avenatti who brought it to the States Attorneys Office who is representing several clients involved in the r. Kelly case. That tape has some very potentially damaging evidence on it, including a girl who refers i will warn you about this language im about to use. Who referred to her 14yearold genitalia. She does so more than a half dozen times. R. Kelly or someone who appears to be r. Kelly on the tape says the same thing repeats it back to her a couple tyimes. That evidence has been in the hands of the States Attorneys Office mu office. It was used to show some of the people in the grand jury. You had a chance to speak to one survivor. She said to us, today is very emotional for myself and some of the other women i have spoken to who are survivors from the documentary. Kitty jones was dating r. Kelly for a few years and says she suffered abuse. Here is something thats interesting that we did not know. She says, i knew when i saw the images from one of the tapes in a private meeting this tuesday that this was going to be huge for prosecutors. Those are words from a woman who says she has been waiting for a very long time for there to be some justice. And she says that she has seen this newly unearthed videotape and that it is, in her words, huge for prosecutors. To be fair, r. Kelly for many years has always maintained his innocence saying that he is not guilty of any of these alleged crimes. Sara sidner in chicago for us. Thank you. Were following charges against the new England Patriots owner robert kraft who was caught up in a prostitution sting at a florida day spa. Lets go to Jason Carroll working this story for us. Police have Video Evidence against kraft. What is he being charged with . Reporter allegations relating to soliciting a prostitu prostitute. He denied the allegations through a spokesperson. Police say they have all the evidence they need. They say its on tape. Police in florida shocked that robert kraft is allegedly caught in their sting operation at a day spa. Were as equally stunned as everybody else. Reporter charged with two counts of soliciting another for prostitution. Much of our evidence comes from the businesses. Also from bodyworn cameras of our officers and also surveillance that we had been conducting. Reporter police say kraft visited the spa on two occasions and they say they have videos allegedly showing him in a room receiving what detectives characterize as paid acts. Their investigation into Human Trafficking at the spa lasted several months, more than two dozen men or johns including kraft are being charged for receiving illegal services. He is being charged with the same offenses as the others. That is soliciting another to commit prostitution. Reporter kraft is the chairman and ceo of the kraft group. His worth is listed by forbes at more than 6 billion. He is a friend of the president and a frequent visitor to trumps club maralago. A spokesman for the billionaire released a statement which says, we categorically deny mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity, because its a judicial matter, we will not be commenting further. Were following multiple breaking stories, including reporting about former trump fixer and personal lawyer Michael Cohen. Lets dig deeper with our correspondents and analysts. We have been reporting this, Michael Cohen has been providing information about the trump Family Business to the u. S. Attorney in new york, the Southern District of new york. He has been asked about a prominent donor to the president s inaugural committee who donated hundreds of thousands of dollars. What does this tell you . I think what it shows is that prosecutors interests are broader than the hush money arrangement that landed him in hot water. Involving Stormy Daniels . And Campaign Finance violations. Thats how this started. We are far afield of that now. Michael cohen is cooperating. We dont know the full extent of what he has told prosecutors, obviously. If they are probing into the inauguration and now it appears some insurance irregularities. The New York Times isnt clear about what the wrongdoing would be. It appears this is broader in scope. Its partly why you have heard former prosecutors say at length that the Southern District of new york prosecutors are dogged. They are willing to go after him and everything that he knows. It potentially just exposes him to greater risk than perhaps the russia investigation, which is far more limited in scope. Jeffrey toobin, weigh in. A year ago the president said to the New York Times, if they go after my family or my business, thats crossing a red line. Well, they have that red line is history. Its been history for some time. Its worth remembering that the Southern District has a rule. Most u. S. Attorneys have a similar rule. But the Southern District certainly has it. If you are going to cooperate cohen doesnt have a formal cooperation agreement, but he is cooperating. If you are going to cooperate, you have to cooperate about everything. Every question they ask, you have to give an answer for. You have to talk about any subject thats of interest to them. As laura was saying, it started in this discreet area. But its moved to the whole range of cohens responsibilities which were extensive. So anything he touched as trumps fixer, he is going to be asked about. Is he going to be asked about this when he testifies in open session wednesday morning before the House Oversight committee . I think its a really important question there. On the one hand, democrats are going to want to go after all of the investigative leads that he has put out there. I think they face a question about whether their role in a Congressional Committee is simply to run through the same tracks as the Law Enforcement side of things will be doing. Or do they use Michael Cohen, who is unquestionably i think the most cooperative witness they are going to have with a front row seat on the broad range of President Trumps activities when he was in the private sector . Do they use him to try to create a Bigger Picture, a bigger narrative about the way the president operated across a series of fronts . In the past, they have struggled to in hearings whether it was kavanaugh or elsewhere to drive a single strong point out of the testimony and out of their questioning. We will see whether they kind of track each one of the threads that Michael Cohen has unravelled or do they try to present a Bigger Picture with what is a unique resource for them. Pamela, were waiting it could happen at any moment now for this Paul Manafort this Robert Mueller special counsel sentencing memo involving Paul Manafort. There could be a lot of significant information released in this memo. There could, depending on redactions what prosecutors decide to reveal. It is coming momentarily. This filing is significant. Its one of the last opportunities for Robert Muellers team to lay out more on the investigative theory about russian interference during the 2016 campaign. Also the communications between Paul Manafort and kilimnik, who officials believe is tied to russian intel. So thats really as a reporter who has been cover iing the rusa probe to see what more do they reveal. They have to release this before midnight tonight. They do. Hopefully, they dont do it at 11 59. We will see. Friday night. We will stay here. You are all going to be watching. Arent you going to be up with us . I want to play jeffrey, let me get you to react. The president was weighing in on all of this, including the Mueller Investigation earlier today. Listen. You know the nice part . There was no collusion. There was no obstruction. There was no anything. Thats the nice part. There was no phone calls, no nothing. I look forward to seeing the report. If its an honest report, it will say that. If its not an honest report, it wont. What do you think . Thats approximately the 10,000th time we heard the president say no collusion, notwithstanding the evidence that is already out about relations between the Trump Campaign and russia. I think the question that the trump camp is going to have to deal with is, are they going to say the report is simply a vindication of everything they have been saying all along, this is old news, theres nothing here, or are they going to say its just a pack of lies . They probably will pick and choose to a certain extent. They will say parts that are unfavorable are a pack of lies. You know, the fox news chorus is going to have to figure out a line on the Mueller Report. And those two options, like no news here or its all lies, theyre going to have to pick that. Basically what the president is saying correct me if im wrong, pamela. You have been doing a lot of reporting on this. The president is only going to accept the Robert Mueller report if the report clears him . Yes. Its no surprise the president would say, if it works in my favor, i will accept it. What is bill barr going to give to congress . I can tell you in speaking to officials from the white house, there is an expectation its not a lot. That he is basically just going to hand over something very simple thats not going to be a thick packet full of the investigation and what happened through the past two years. So there is sort of a feeling with folks i have spoken with that this is a positive development that the investigation is at this stage and that there is this expectation the report will be handed over to Congress Soon in whatever form it will take. Because their feeling is, we got through this without the president having to sit down with Robert Mueller. That was always the big concern. They seem to have prevented that from happening. As one official i spoke to said, lets wait for the plane to land on the runway and see what we have. We dont want to get too excited. There was definitely a feeling of relief with some of the officials i spoke with. Its not going to happen next week, the report wont be presented to the new attorney general while the president is over in its been a moving target. We have more on the breaking news. Stay with us. Were following breaking news, sex charges against the new England Patriots owner and President Trumps friend robert kraft. I want to play a clip, the president reacting to these allegations against kraft. Its very sad. I was very surprised to see it. He has proclaimed his innocence totally. But im very surprised to see it. Part of a broader sting operation against this spa down in florida thats north of palm beach. Im going to take a lesson from what we learned in chicago this week and not express any view about whether robert kraft is guilty or not guilty of anything. What i do know is the women who work in these circumstances are terribly abused. This is not under any circumstances a victimless crime. So that much is clear. As for who the johns were or what their relationship was, i think we ought to wait to see what more evidence comes out. Go ahead, ron. Its striking. We dont know, obviously. The chicago example is a good one to be chasened about. Theres no question in the me too era, the revelations, theres a general Movement Toward holding more men accountable for coercive sexual behavior. The conspicuous exception in all of that really, the fuel in a lot of Political Energy among women is the president himself. He is facing at least a dozen serious accusations of Sexual Harassment who is on video himself in the access hollywood tape. Thats a reality that explains why democrats in the last election had their best performance ever among College Educated white women. Huge numbers among africanamerican women and improvement among blue collar white women. The fact that he continually sides his initial reaction is to side with at accused in these cases is just, i think, just another marker of how that bubbles beneath the surface politically as part of the fuel in the historic problem he is facing, particularly among well educated white women. A good point. Shifting gears. You wrote an excellent article about senator Bernie Sanders and how his race for the democratic president ial primary is going to affect the overall democratic contest. Yeah. Youll see him on monday. He has a distinct basis of support. Strong among independents who participated. Young people and blue collar white men although some may have been dislike for hillary clinton. He had very little strength among selfidentified democrats, africanamericans and older voters. So whether or not sanders can expand and truly compete for the nomination this time, his entry is a huge rock in this very crowded pond of Democratic Candidates because the voters are accounting on the same pool of voters he is strong with like young people or more lib rag voters like beto orourke or certainly Elizabeth Warren will face real challenges. He is a formidable opponent and if youre Elizabeth Warren youre looking at a do or die moment in new hampshire. Myly likely only one comes out as more viable. The candidates not competing in the same pool as sanders for older voters, moderate and africanamerican voters and ranks from Biden Klobuchar to booker and harris may be advantaged siphon off some of the support their rivals have coalesced. The president is watching this democratic contest closely. Hes not sitting idly by looped in looking at rallies and announcements, talking to aides, even this week my colleague Caitlin Collins and jeff zeleny reported he held meetings with his campaign, mike pence and others about 2020 so he is actively engaged even asking some of his aides for intel on joe biden, whether or not hes going to run, talking about what nicknames you could have for the opponents so he is looped in. Everybody, stick around.
