Minute. This morning, more than 79,000 people are waking up in the hospital. 10,000 were admitted in the past week. Across the country, some people are again waiting hours to get tested. Look at this line in maryland. And still, even in the face of this growing crisis, the outgoing Trump Administration is prohibiting Health Officials from communicating with president elect biden. Something biden warns could delay Vaccine Distribution by weeks if not months. And what does the defeat t president have to offer to the public about this crisis today . Nothing. Nothing. The president has nothing on his public schedule today. It is the 12th of the past 16 days that he is doing nothing. Folks who have covered the white house for years say they have never seen a stretch like this. So much nothing. To misquote winston churchill, never has so little been done for so many for so long. And thats with the a pandemic that killed nearly 2,000 people a day over the last few weeks. What hes not doing for the public, he is doing for himself. The president is engaged in overt efforts to overturn the results of the election that he lost. This morning, president elect joe biden is leading by more than 5. 8 million votes. Thats a lot. But the president s Campaign Lawyer explicitly says their goal is to overthrow the results and have republican legislatuor to decide the election. Theres a new development out of michigan on that front. Lets go first to cnns jessica dean live in wilmington, delaware, covering the biden transition. And weve learned a handful of current and former Trump Administration officials have actually reached out to the president elects team. Right, john, and that is progress. But the fact remains that key officials and key federal agencies still are not allowed to talk with the biden Transition Team. The health and Human Services secretary, alex azar, saying he will not brief the Transition Team on the coronavirus pandemic until the General Services administration has signed off on that formal transition to begin. This as the biden Transition Team insists these delays could cost lives. President elect joe biden is focusing on the coronavirus response, thanking front line workers battling the virus around the clock for nearly nine months, as conditions worsen. Its not enough to praise you. We have to protect you, we have to pay you. And you deserve leadership that listens to you and that works as hard for you as you do for the families in your communities. Reporter but as President Trump refuses to allow the transition process to begin, biden warns this will only sloefslow efforts to fight the pandemic. I am optimistic, but we should be further along. And theres a whole lot of things that we just dont have available to us. So unless its made available soon, were going to be behind by weeks or months being able to put together the whole initiative. Reporter Trump Administration officials also stalling the transition, with the health and Human Services secretary saying he will not begin working with president elect bidens team until he is officially declared the winner. Weve made it very clear that when gsa makes a determination, we will ensure complete cooperative professional tril transitions and planning. I dont make the rules. We all want to be transparent and transmit Public Health, but its not quite as ominous as you suggested it was. Reporter Health Experts emphasizing that the president s unwillingness to cooperate with biden will only delay plans to distribute a coronavirus vaccine. Its so important that that handoff be done smoothly. Because this is going to be the most complicated Vaccination Program in american history. Reporter trump staying largely silent on the pandemic, but hes spreading baseless claims of widespread voter fraud, as his campaign Presses Forward with legal battles in states that president elect biden won, promoting threadbare challenges to clear election results. This as georgia is expected to release the results of the audit of its recount later today, confirming bidens victory. We have not seen any widespread voter fraud. The president elects team cautions trumps decision not to coordinate with him may ultimately cause more longterm harm in the future. Every transition day thats lost delays our Transition Teams ability to effectively respond and this puts thousands of americans at risk of illness and death and of economic hardship. And this is avoidable suffering. And it should be avoided. Reporter later today, president elect biden and Vice President elect harris will meet with members and governors from the National Governors association about the coronavirus pandemic. We do expect to hear remarks from biden later today, and john, remember, these governors are going to play a key role when it comes to the pandemic, both as biden works to enact a National Mask mandate. Hes going to need cooperation from local governments, but also as they try to coordinate across the states for more streamlined guidance as we move forward with this pandemic. The governors are already playing a crucial role, because the federal government isnt. The governors have had to step in to deal with the situation now. This will be really interesting, this discussion today between the governors, both republicans and democrats and the president elect. Looking forward to see what they have to say. Jessica dean, thank you very much. As of this morning, more than 250,000 americans have died of the coronavirus. Thats by far the most in the world. The United States of america has done worse than anyone in this pandemic. If you want to see the course of deaths over the last few months, 50,000 people had died by april, 100,000 by may, 150,000 by july, 200,000 by september, and as of this morning, you can see, were at 250,548. That number just keeps on rising. Cnns natasha chen live in florida with the very latest. Natasha . Reporter yeah, john, florida just crossed the threshold of 900,000 cases yesterday, the third highest in the nation. Thats not a record anyone wants to have. And like many other states, when you look at floridas trend of sevenday average of new cases, it really looks like a tidal wave. Since the summer surge coming back down a little bit, now spiking back up, this is a state that since late september has lifted capacity restrictions on businesses. So local jurisdictions like Orange County here can ramp up testing, like the site behind me, can have a local mask mandate, but cannot restrict capacity of restaurants, for example, without telling the state what kind of Economic Impact that would have. More than a quarter Million People have died from coronavirus since the pandemic began in the United States. On wednesday, over 1,800 americans lost their lives to the virus. If you were to read all of the names of the people who have died in the United States from coronavirus, it would take about ten days. Thats the magnitude of the loss. Theres growing concern in the northeast, as new cases rise across the region. The countrys Largest School district is closing down today, after new york city saw an average of 3 test positivity over the last seven days. We set a very clear standard, and we need to stick to that standard. And i want to emphasize to parents, to educators, to staff, to kids, that we intend to come back and come back as quickly as possible. In pennsylvania, case numbers are soaring. The case reported approximately 6,400 new cases on wednesday. Growing concern there as over 2,900 patients are currently hospitalized with the virus, the highest number so far in the pandemic. And in new jersey, Governor Phil Murphy has implemented new restrictions on Indoor Dining and outdoor gatherings. Since then, the state has reported more than 4,000 new cases each day for four of the past five days. In wisconsin, the governor announced hes extending his state of emergency order and statewide mask mandate for january, as icu beds in that state are running out. Over the past week, hospitals have reported nine of our icus at 100 capacity. There are zero icu beds available in one rengion of our state. Reporter along with wisconsin announcing new restrictions, minnesota announced it is closing Indoor Dining and gyms and limiting social gatherings. And kentucky is moving the entire state to Online Learning to try to stem the increase in confirmed cases. These states join nearly two dozen other cities and states that have increased restrictions over the past week. Some states are still not taking many important measures, despite rising numbers, including florida, which is starting to see an uptick of cases again after its summer surge. Even though some counties in florida do have mask mandates, theres still no statewide regulation recovering face covers. And in south dakota, governor kristi nome is doubling down on her refusal to mandate masks. Some have said that my refusal to mandate mask is a reason why our cases are rising here in the state of south dakota, and that is not true. Im not in favor of mandating mask wearing. I dont believe that i have the authority to mandate that. Reporter theres no statewide mandate in florida, either. Governor ron desantis has not been seen publicly addressing coronavirus since at least early november. Now, he does on his public schedule today have some phone calls with the ceos of various Health Systems here, but no public address. I asked his press office why that is, compared to the summer surge when he was giving regular press conferences on covid19, they have not gotten back to me yet. Keep on asking, natasha. Maybe youll get an answer eventually. Appreciate you being there and appreciate your reporting. Thank you very much. So alisyn camerota, whats on the president s public schedule today . I assume watching new day. No, public schedule. Oh, not what hes doing right now. Nada. Nothing. Surely he must be doing something. Theres more than a quarter Million People dead from the coronavirus. Its interesting, im going to have to start conclude that hes not interested in the job of being president very soon, though hes fighting tooth and nail to keep it, hes not doing any of the things publicly that president s would do in a pandemic. Like president. President ing. Hes not doing the president ing thing. Well have much more on that, ahead. Kraft. For the win win. And sweetie can coloryou just be. Gentle with the pens. Okey. Okey. Theres a whole lot of things that we just dont have available to us. So unless its made available soon, were going to be behind by weeks or months. That was president elect joe biden warning that america could fall behind by months in distributing a coronavirus vaccine, if the Trump Administration continues to block the biden team from getting ask to the plans. A source tells cnn that current hhs staffers have been instructed not to communicate with the biden team. Joining us now, cnn political commentator, errol louis and natasha alford, Vice President of Digital Content and Senior Correspondent for the grio. Great to have both of you. Errol, its i dont even know what word to use, funny, sad . I know that it is life and death. It is life and death, now, that the biden team is being blocked. The idea that we could be behind by months in this country in terms of the distribution of a vaccine. The one thing that everyone is holding on to, the light at the end of the tunnel, and it could be even if it were delayed by days, it would be life and death for some people. And thats where we are. Thats where we are. It is important that i think people remember that while the vaccine is an attractive possibility, right now, the emphasis has to be on the safeguards that are necessary to save lives right now. And its doubly shock that we dont see the commander in chief. He called himself a wartime president in this war against the president , taking no action to help galvanize the country. You know, if you remember back to march and april, alisyn, the president would talk in Public Meetings with the governors of the most severely affected states. He would deploy the navy. He deployed the u. S. Army corps of engineers. They would set up mobile field hospitals where it was needed. All of that Emergency Activity is needed and more right now, as well as putting in place some kind of a plan to bring this to a conclusion with a vaccine some months down the road. The fact that none of these things are happening is shocking and its a dereliction of duty, at the worst possible time. And its a mistake to think that, hey, its only 60 days until this is all over, on january 20th and a new administration is sworn in. Well, those 60 days are the difference between the start of this pandemic and absolutely catastrophe back in march and april. And were set to relive it all over again. Hes not a wartime president , hes a teetime president. As in golf tee. Hes spent more time golfing than speaking to the public. 12 out of the last 16 days, hes had nothing on his public schedule. Nothing. I covered the white house for a year. Ive never seen anything like this. People who have covered it for far longer than i have have never seen a stretch like this. Hes doing aggressively nothing. Like the aggressive absence of power and authority here. And as alisyn says, i mean, hes trying to overthrow the constitution to keep his job. You would think that he would at least want to do it. Yeah, the president has completely checked out. Hes more invested in flexing his twitter fingers and fighting for an election that he already lost than the health and the safety of the American People. And its truly a shame. Its truly a shame. I think that president elect joe biden is being the president right now. And frankly, you know, hes asking for things that are perfectly reasonable. Lets get specific. Hes asking about hospital bed numbers, mask shortages, how deep vaccine stockpiles are, right . So hes not asking for anything. Hes not asking for nuclear codes. He wants to know information to save american lives. And donald trump is more interested in golf and the election of the past rather than the future. And again, it shows what his priorities always were. Errol, i just want to put that graphic up one more time of no Public Events scheduled. No Public Events scheduled. This is the guidance from the white house, okay . It came courtesy of Michael Shearer at the New York Times. The president has no Public Events scheduled. Ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto, as for a down as the eye can see. And thats just, again, astonishing that he has so washed his hands of trying to deal with this pandemic whatsoever. And of course, as we said, the upshot is that people with all the institutional knowledge, like dr. Fauci, cannot talk to the biden family or feel as though they cannot talk to the biden team without being fired or losing their jobs or in some way getting crosswise with the president. Heres what dr. Fauci had to say about this. There has not been any form of discussions with the biden people on this. That kind of thing makes it easier to just go from one to the other. So, yes, i would wish that we would be able to do that. That would be helpful. And errol, what fauci has said is that he thinks that the biden team doesnt want to compromise him. Theyre not reaching out, because they know that he has had a bullseye on him, so they dont want to put him in that compromised position. And look, as always with President Trump. You have to assume that this isnt an accident, this isnt mere negligence, this is some kind of a strategy. Perhaps this is the only leverage that hes got left, as Husband Administration comes to a close. That maybe he thinks he can bargain for or negotiate something, if he simply sits on his hands and brings the government to a halt at a kr critical time in the nations history. I hope that thats not the case, but there arent that many other explanations. Because ironically enough, it would bolster his fading futile quest to actually get a second term, it would actually help if he were out there doing the job. If he were to make himself see as if he was indispensable, clearly ready to sort of take on a second term that he claims that he has earned. If he wants to do that, at least we would get the benefits of continuity of government. But hes not even doing that. And even if you want to believe these conspiracy theories, this is not somebody whos acting like hes president of the United States. Natasha, errol, thank you both very much. And we want everyone to know that wolf blitzer is going to talk to the Incoming White House chief, ron klain, today at 5 00 p. M. Eastern for more information on all of this. Overnight, more than 1,800 new deaths from coronavirus reported in the United States. More than 1,800. 1,848, to be exact. Every single one matters. That is the most reported since may 1st and that number will continue to rise. More than 79,000 americans are hospitalized this morning. We also just had the second highest number of cases ever reported. Joining us now is dr. Ali khan, dean of the university of Nebraska Medical Centers college of Public Health. Dr. Khan, thank you for being with us this morning, and i have to say, its a grim morning. When you have more than 1,800 deaths reported, the highest number since may 1st. And honestly, no end in sight. I dont see where this stops in terms of the rising death toll with the cases and hospitalizations where they are this morning. What do you see . So, good morning, john. And i agree with you, those statistics are pretty grim. And theyre a reflection of the magic base strategy the u. S. Has been using and the choices that theyve made, but as a Public Health professional, i want to remind everybody that we can come back from this. We can celebrate double donuts like australia is with zero cases and zero deaths without a vaccine, and just recently, israel and belgium saw cases two to three times what we have seen so far and have come back. But this was expected. Absolutely expected. We squaurndered the economy and the goodwill of the American People with the partial lockdown in the spring, without having Public Health completely geared up and ready to address any increases. We opened up way too fast, including colleges. And then it became cold and people started coming together and congregating. So with all of those factors put together, you couple that with a patchwork of a National Response and the current cases are completely expected. However, i want to reassure people, with 30 years of experience in pandemics, this, too, will plateau. Its not going to continue to go up indefinitely. But we can and we must interrupt these cases. 2,000 deaths a day, thats more than one death every minute. By the htime this segment is over, five to ten people will have died. What will we plateau at and when . Thats a crystal balling game of when we will plateau. What i can tell you is that the current deaths reflect actually cases from two to three weeks ago when we had about 100,000 cases. So it would not be unexpected to see 2,500 deaths from cases that are occurring today or more. So this is a grisly pace of 2,000 deaths a day. That may well may increase more than we saw back in the spring, and thats inexcusable with nine months of Public Health knowledge of how to get this disease under control. Thats devastating. I have to say, its just devastating. And i think its important for people to hear it and begin to anticipate it, particularly with thanksgiving happening next week. And a bunch of governors, a Bipartisan Group of governors has gotten together in an oped. They write, think about your last thanksgiving and the people you were surrounded by. As hard as it will be not to see them this thanksgiving, how much how much harder it would be if their chairs are empty next year. And dr. Khan, just as clearly as you can, because i know people are sensitive to thanksgiving and they want to see their loved ones and sometimes i think they use language that dances around the reality, what do people need to do and not do for thanksgiving next thursday . So, we do not need to create yet another super spreader event in america. Disease is so widespread that people are getting infected everywhere right now. Not no longer just the routine places, hot spots that we used to see. So this is a good thanksgiving to just stay home and stay within your bubble or at most, you know, a small number of additional, two to three people who you know are also taking really good precautions. But this is a good year to stay home. And its a good year for us to do it across the u. S. So maybe we can have a better christmas. Theres 250,000 people dead people. We would like to limit that p t further. And the other thing i would like to pick up that i heard earlier on the show, a single negative test is not a pass to say, i am fine, i can now go do whatever i want, because you could still be infected and incubating. So be cautious thinking, i got a negative test, im fine. You cant test your way into thanksgiving dinner. And weve seen this around the president. You cant protect the president with a testing strategy. Dr. Khan, there are some mornings on the program that we have so much hope and it seems so promising, like the mornings of the great vaccine news. And there are some mornings like this morning, where it feels like to get to that light at the end of the tunnel, we have to go through such a devastating deadly tunnel that we might not actually make it to the other side. And one of the things that is making me less hopeful is to hear from rick bright, who is on president elect bidens covid advisory board, talking about what is being missed, because theyre not able to sit down at the table. So its not like when Joe Biden Takes Office that day, were going to have a distribution plan. He explained to us, spelled it out yesterday all the things that they could be doing right now but theyre not. Just listen to him for a moment. Its also really important to note that the government so far has invested about 10 billion into the development of vaccines. And theres a significant cost associated with a downstream administration and immunization program. Theres a lot of work that we need to do very rapidly, to make sure that our entire infrastructure is in place to receive these vaccines. Not only are they not sitting down at the table and talking about this, they dont even know if the money will be there for the distribution. Alisyn, thats a great point. And i hope wherever i come on, i also am a source of hope. Our previous bad choices are not our destiny. And many countries have come back from situations as dire as this and so can we. But the Vaccination Campaign is going to be even more complex that the someone Vaccination Campaign in the United States. Remember, this is a twodose vaccine, one of which has to be kept ultracold. And we need to get this right and the government need to make sure that theyre prepared to do this and that they underpromise and overdeliver. Youre a source of joy every morning, dr. Khan. Just seeing your face inspires us, so thank you so much for being with us. Even though you cover it up sometimes with the mask on, everybody thats right, everybody. Be safe. Talk about sacrifice. All right, dr. Khan, thank you very much. We know what President Trumps strategy is now. He wants to overthrow the will of the people. Joe biden won the election by at least 5. 8 million votes. The president s team has said they want to throw that out and have republican legislators decide the outcome of the election. New developments overnight from michigan, next. Developing overnight, House Minority leader Kevin Mccarthy giving the New York Times some insight into why Republican Leaders are not pushing for the transition to biden to begin. The times Jonathan Martin asked, doesnt biden cool the countrys political temperatures, at least at first . Mccarthy responded, it depends how it turns out. If you have 70 of republicans who thought he cheated, hes still going to have a hard time. Back with us now, errol louis, as well as cnn analyst and propublica reporter, jessica huseman. Hey, errol, minority leader Kevin Mccarthy wasnt just spitballing that number, thats from an actual poll. Thats monmouth poll where they ask, do you think biden won this election fair and square. Only 18 of republicans a week ago, well, even less a few days ago, thought that. And they think its due to voter fraud, 70 of republicans think that. And so it turns out that the blizzard of, you know, specious court cases and the constant repetition of that slogan, voter fraud, voter fraud has taken root. Yes, its very unfortunate. And i guess Kevin Mccarthy and his colleagues can be proud of themselves, that theyve managed to distort and denigrate an election for the highest office in the land. That theyve managed to sow enough doubt and distrust that theyve done what foreign adversaries have tried repeatedly and failed to do, which is to break the confidence of the American People in our own election system. Its such a far stretch to go. Its such a damaging act, in pursuit of something that theyre not going to get. Theyre not going to reverse the results of the election. Theyre not going see donald trump get a second term. And in the end, theyre not going to do themselves any favors, because grinding the country to a halt and making it impossible for the next administration, the incoming Biden Harris Administration to govern properly is not going to work to anybodys advantage at the time of the pandemic. So here we are. Theyre laying the table for whats going to be a very frustrating couple of years until the American People get sick of this and throw out the Kevin Mccarthies and the rest of them, who are determined to wreck a system that they cant rule. Mccarthy throws out that statistic, as if it just happens to be randomly occurring, when hes one of the guys who made it happen its because of Kevin Mccarthy that 70 of republicans think, wrongly, that this election was somehow fraudulent. And jessica, youve been so eloquent about this. And i really appreciate the reporting and writing youve done on this. Just so people know, out of michigan overnight, there are reports that those two members on the wayne board county supervisors have rescinded their votes on the counting. But it doesnt matter. What the kpraun atrump campaign their acolytes are doing are trying to inject these sentences into the ecosystem. You say what they have done successfully to the media and others is create a scenario where were all chasing big foot. What do you mean by that . Absolutely. You know, i think that the republicans, especially farright republicans, have been trying to prove that voter fraud is real and makes a huge difference in americans elections for decades. I have gone to the court cases, i have watched the trials. They dont go much better than the ones that trump is trying to pursue now, and i believe his current win record, as of the time i went to bed last night was 1 in 29 cases hes filed over the last couple of weeks. These are not serious legal cases. They never have been serious legal cases. What they are is an attempt to delay the inevitable result of this election for so long that people begin to doubt the legitimacy of bidens presidency. And i think that, you know, the statistic that you guys gave, the polling statistic that 70 of the Republican Party does not is exactly what theyve been trying to achieve. And i dont think that theres any point in the media lending these cases any credibility or examining the meriting of the claim, because they simply dont exist. Youre doing the opposite of debunking them, youre bunking them. Youre laying them out. And we know what their strategy is, because their lawyer told us. Jenna ellis tweeted out of wayne county what theyre trying to do is have republican state legislators decide the election. Huge win for donald trump. Far be it for me to bunk in on this, but we need to explain whats happening, wbecause a lo of people are going to wake up this morning and think, what happened to wayne county . I thought we resolved this. Now the two republicans are backtracking. They want to rescind their votes . I thought they had just agreed to certifying the votes. So now, what theyre doing is there are a handful, as the New York Times explains, examples of irregularities there, as there are in every county. And in every president ial election. This is commonplace. Theres a handful. Theres not the 100,000 votes that would be needed to switch whatever the outcome was, but just because of that, they think that they can, i guess, stall or put up some impediments to certi certifying. So what does this shift mean this morning . Well, in legal terms, it means nothing, as we just discussed. A handful of discrepancies comes nowhere near the 150,000 votes that are the difference between joe biden who won the state of michigan and donald trump, who lost the state of michigan. However, for purposes of distorting the truth, muddying the record, and laying claim to some kind of Conspiracy Theory that they can Carry Forward into the future, a couple of cases are good enough. Theyll try to boot strastrap io some sort of broad, deep conspiracy. On the other hand, this other case, it falls squarely into something that a lot of americans do understand. Which is an attempt at a mass level to disenfranchise a whole lot of black voters. Kevin mccarthy and his cohorts should recognize when theyre going to do for his party is make clear theyre in a long, dishonorable position of trying to disenfranchise black voters. Nothing more, nothing less. 10second last word, jessica . I think hes completely right. The number of abnormalities is far lower than in 2016 because michigan has improved its Election Administration so much. The same Board Certified the results in 2016 with far more irregularities because these irregularities are expected. Isnt that a good tidbit, john. Isnt that good for our viewers to know . You laid out and bunk i dont think that errol and jessica bunked with anybody. I think they just gave the viewers are very important piece of context. Jessica, errol, im sorry you have to hear this marital spat. Well take it up with our therapist. Thank you very much. How is President Trumps refusal to concede impacting the pandemic . But on together 20th, these protests turned deadly as the army and police moved in on unarmed civilians. The Nigerian Army has called allegations that it fired into the crowd, quote, fake news and told a Judicial Panel of inquiry it did not shoot any civilian. But a new cnn investigation reveals this is not true. Some of the images you are about to see are disturbing. Cnns nima elbagir has our report. Reporter the Nigerian Government denies this happened. A peaceful protest turned deadly. They came and start shooting at us. Reporter cnn investigates this night. After analyzing hours of foot san age, we are going to tell a story that is radically different than the one the authorities are telling. People gathered protesting against what they called systemic Police Brutality and corruption. What they dont know is that the army is already on its way. This is a military garrison on the south side of lagolagos. We know they left at 6 29 p. M. Here. We can see the Nigerian Government forces approaching. The protesters are gathered on the other side of the gate. As Nigerian Forces get closer, you can see shots. At 6 43 p. M. , we start hearing gunfire. We know this from the time stamp and data on this video. Heres another angle. Nigerian Authorities Say they fired blanks into the air and not at protesters. But cnn obtained video that appears to show the Army Shooting toward the crowd. Here and at the top of your screen here. In the muds of the chaotic scenes, dj switch, a nigerian celebrity and activist, she is broadcasting live on instagram. And i wanted people to see what was happening. I didnt want anybody to come and twist the story. Witnesses tell cnn ambulances were stopped from entering by nigerian authorities. You can see here people at the scene trying to conduct cpr. Everybody, look at this. Reporter cnn has verified that these bullet casings are from live ammunition. They are of mixed origin, some are serbian. This one from 2005. Nigerian military sources verified to us that these are munitions that are currently in use by nigerias army, and in collaboration with the balkan investigative network, we were able to obtain serbian export documents proving that nigeria purchased weaponry from serbia for almost every year between 2005 and 2016. The shooting continued past midnight. Eyewitnesss tell us it wasnt just the army. At this point, they say Police Arrived and opened fire. So why were live rounds used at a peaceful protest . Many family members of those still missing are asking that question, as they hunt for answers for the bodies of their loved ones. Elijahs brother, victor, was at the protest last night. I text my brother and said, call me. What were about to show you is incredibly graphic, but its also incredibly important. This is elijahs brother, victor. The data in this footage shows it was filmed at 1 04 a. M. Elijah says he received a call about his brothers death around this time. This places victory exactly at the location of the protest on the night witnesses say they were shot at. This is important, because nigerian authorities deny anyone was killed at the scene. Since this incident, cnn has contacted over 100 protesters and family members. We asked what they heard. We heard gunshots from behind the tollbooth. And felt. This guy was shot. Many are in hiding, some have fled the country. Cnn tried to share these findings with the Nigerian Army, but received no response. Lagos state authorities would not comment on our reporting until, they said, a Judicial Panel of inquiry presents its findings. All of this is incredibly worrying to the United States. The Nigerian Army is a key counterterror partner, but u. S. Lawmakers warn continuing abuses could damage that partnership. Theyre calling for answers, but weeks later, still, none
