Discussed in the testimonies so far. This is a hoax. This is just like the russian witch hunt. President trump travels to his third major sporting event in recent weeks. Saturdays matchup between alabama and Louisiana State university is another chance to prove hes still a fan favorite. I love alabama. Im going to go watch a very good Football Game. Well, welcome to saturday morning. I hope its been good to you so far. Of course, its early. I im christi paul im martin savidge. Thanks for joinin us. We want to get to the impeachment inquiry and two Top White House officials. Two new transcripts and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney right at the center of the ukraine scandal. Lets go straight to cnn correspondent kristen holmes. It does not look good, ive got to say, kristin, for the acting chief of staff. No, martin, it does not. And it came on the same day he defied a subpoena to testify. There were two important white house officials fiona hill and ukrainian expert Lieutenant Colonel alexander vindman. Both of them in these transcripts that paint mulvaney in the center of this ukrainian testimony. I think fiona hill lays it out best saying that sondland in front of ukrainians as i came in was talking about how he had an agreement with chief of staff mulvaney for a meeting with ukrainians if they were going to go forward with investigations. Key words there. And my director for ukraine was looking completely alarmed. Clearly here, laying out and she did later in her testimony as well, that there was this quid pro quo. So the big question is what happens next for mulvaney. We learned late last night hes trying to join a lawsuit that is essentially going to force federal courts to decide whether or not hes going to come testify. He wants a federal court to tell him, do i defy the white house or do i defy these house committees . So, kristen, lets talk about President Trump. He cant get away from wanting to attack the whistleblower. Did something happen that brought this back up for him or is this a tactic he thinks is working. I think he thinks its a tactic thats working. I think if he can attack the whistleblower over and over again hes attacking the base of the entire inquiry and it should, in fact, go away. Its not stopped those attacks. Now, take a listen. Why isnt the first whistleblower going to testify anymore . You know why . Everything he wrote in that report almost was a lie because he made a phony phone call. My phone call was perfect. He made it sound bad. Thats why he had to release. So the whistleblower is a disgrace to our country, a disgrace. And the whistleblower because of that should be revealed. So obviously theyre calling for the revelation of the whistleblower. While this isnt new, this came a day after the whistleblowers attorney sent a cease and desist letter warning President Trump to stop attacking the whistleblower saying that it was putting him in danger. And, kristin, we know the president has said hes not worried. But im wondering how concerned is the white house that john bolton is going to testify . Okay. This is incredibly interesting. This developed late yesterday, and essentially just to back up here, thursday bolton did not show up to testify on the hill, but he was not issued a subpoena and heres why. The democrats were seeking his testimony, but they didnt want to prolong the entire impeachment investigation and go to court, which was made clear by bolton he was only going to testify if the court said he should. Then yesterday this letter comes from boltons lawyer. It says that the National Security adviser, former, was personally involved in many events, meetings, and conversations of which youve already received testimony as well as relevant meetings and conversations that have not yet been discussed. This essentially reads as, though, the im emoji of surprise here. It came with a caveat, that he still wants the federal court to decide whether or not he is going to testify. And this is going to put the democrats in a tough spot. They have to decide, what do they want more. Information about President Trump or potentially important. Because it could take a much longer time than they hoped for. Thats a heck of a tease from bolton. Kristin, thanks so much. It is indeed. Im joined by a political white house correspondent. Good to see you. Thank you. Mmhmm. Theyve tried to say the president and white house are immune from having to testify before congress. We havent had the courts weigh in on this. It has. Helped there are swhoevl have defied that strategy and gone ahead and testified and many have put out a narrative. Several said there was this quid pro quo, and mmhmm is maybe one who could provide some spin, but the fact that hes not being put under oath would have people saying, look at that. That makes them look guilty, so the absolute immunity strategy isnt helping. Some of the information that seems to be coming forward in defense of the president from the republicans is that mmhmm was somehow, i dont know, running a program that wasnt authorized by the president , that, yeah, hes the one that actually got this going. We do see republicans are trying to put a division between President Trump and some of his closest advisers including mmhmm, rudy giuliani, the people who have the most culpability, saying they were acting on a rogue basis, acting on their own, not following the president s orders. John bolton is one they want to bring up because he might be able to put the dots together to say the president was in these meetings, he was driving this policy, calling people, tell them to talk to rudy giuliani, he was pushing for this quid pro quo, so democrats are still trying to lay this at the feet of the presidnt and say the president was very much aware, very much involved, and we have the phone call where the president brought up a lot of these issues including investigations of joe biden, investigations of 2016 and finding out how much the president knew and when he knew it is going to be key to the democrats investigation, but so far the phone call is the most incriminating evidence they have. Right. Its hard to say you have no direct link when you read the pretty s president saying i want a favor. How worry dwroud think the white house is about what he has to say . Because hes the ultimate professional here. Yeah. They have to be pretty worried. Its part of the reason theyve taken the legal strategy to demand he not testify. John bolton left the white house on acrimonious terms. Does have information having been right in several of these meetings, and we heard from his lawyer that he was in meetings that the democrats do not know about yet. Theyve had hours and hours of testimony. Theyve heard about several key meetings where a lot of this ukraine policy was discuss and now were hearing he knows about other meetings that have not been disclosed so far. So if hes able to provide that linkage of this president holding back the aid from ukraine while he was also pushing for the investigations, john bolton could be the link that provides the proverbial smoking gun that says the president was the reason and this was the quid pro quo and the president was aware of it and he directed it, and if he does testify, thats what theyll look to. What do you think he testifies to, real quick . I think it will be the court. There are worries there are executive privilege issues here and hes been demanded by the white house not to disclose some of these personal oneonone conversations hes had with the president. So if the courts do side with congress and say they do have a role here, they have impeachment power, and they should be able to get some of this testimony, then i think he will ultimately testify. It will be good stuff if he does. Tolose olorunnipa, good to have you here. Thank you. Several candidates are maybe going to miss it out. Mary is fighting for the debate stage. Well talk to her. Plus, theres a new case. What a referee says happened when he told congressman jim jordan, then an assistant wrestling coach at the school, about the alleged misconduct. And when gender reveals go horribly wrong, how one familys celebration to find out whether it was a boy or a girl led to a plane crash in texas. 13 minutes past the hour right now and the top 2020 Democratic Candidates are back on the campaign trail. Senator ber any Sanders Holding a Climate Crisis campaign. Elizabeth warren says, i am angry and i own it. She said power eful men often accuse women of being angry to keep them quiet. Ta top aide to tom steyer hs resigned. Although it is not illegal, payments for endorsements would violate federal Campaign Laws if not disclosed. So the next president ial democratic debate is november 20th. Some are in danger of not making it to debate stage. Ten have qualified under the new dnc rules. Candidates have to register at least 3 in four qualifying polls or 5 in two state polls in iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, or nevada. They also have to earn donations from at least 165,000 unique donors with at least 600 coming from 20 states. Democratic president ial candidate Mary Ann Williamson is with us now. Good morning. Good morning. Good to have you with us again. Thank you. Thank you. I want to show up on the screen here some of the people who have already who had pulled out of their quest for the white house at this point because theyre not meeting these requirements necessarily, and i know that youre close to getting into that third debate, but is there a point where you look at this and you say i think i can serve in another capacity more productively . I suppose there might be that point, but im certainly not there yet. Right now im talking to voters. You know, one of your last guests in the last show was talking about connectivity with voters, and thats what really matters. You near this race. What matters is your connection and conversation youre having with voters. Thats like a political universe, the pundits and the polls and who got into the debate. Theres Something Else going on here and its on the ground. Its in relationships with people. If that wasnt happening for me, i guess i would say, well, i shouldnt be here, but as long as that is happening, as long as that kind of connection is happening and that kind of deep discussion about issues that matter, that are way bigger sometimes, more expanded than the things that the establishment is even discuss g discussing, then im here. You say youre a cool 1 million away from my voice being heard in the final stretch of the campaigns and imagine tv ads about departments of peace, children, youth, whole health care plans, and more. Lets do this. Has that plea gotten any closer . Are we going to get to see you . Its happening. Its happening. The news is about the billionaires, the next billionaires who get in, and they can pump their own millions and millions of dollars. I dont have that. I do need to get on television and i hope people continue to go to my website. When im with voters, thats whats happening. But you need the exposure and get on television. Were going to have to fix this money and politics thing. Its pretty obscene and an erosion of our policy. Its interesting you say that. We talk about Michael Bloomberg getting in and his 52 billion of did you say Michael Bloomberg said he was the one who could beat him . Because he believes that since hes got more of those moderate views that hes offering something hes not seeing in the candidates that are up there. To that you say what . No. Everybody talks about is it left, right, or moderate. I think its fresh versus stale. Listen, i think every candidate thinks im the one who can beat him. That includes me. I think can im the one who can beat him. Only outrageous truth can beat outrageous lies. Only outrageous truth can defeat a conversation that is so filled with such outrageous negativity as his. A political race is such. What i find, youre clearly resonating with not only other people but andrew yang. Hes been seeking out. He tweeted out i love marianne and ive learned a lot from her. I hope they hear the mmhmm. What conversations have the two of you had that maybe sparked his interest in not supporting you . I love andrew. Hes been wonderful. So has Elizabeth Warren and joe biden and bernie sanders. These are really nice people, really wonderful people. You were chuckling about andrew and i understand. Dont kid yourself. This Outsider Energy that andrew and myself bring, somebody somethings going on here. And the very idea that any of us are outside is really undemocratic, outside as what . I think theres energy here and some of the best energy outside the box given that the box has become so toxic in american politics. There because great interview with you when you said one of the most amazing thing about american politics is its unpredictable nature, and you cited donald trump and a lot of people thought that would never happen and you talked about conventional wisdom and who can win and who cant and thats falling apart. You said i dont think these voices should be guiding my campaign or my life. What is ahead for you . What guides your campaign and your life. What guides my life is my conscience and my heart. I think thats true of the average american. I think the average american is a good decent person trying to live a better life. The problem with our Politics Today is that conscience no longer guides our public policy. Public policy should be guided by the question what is the good thing to do . What is the right thing to do as opposed to the wrong thing to do . What helps people . Thats really the point. The problem we have is the divergence between the basic goodness and decency of the American People and the fact that our government is not driven by goodness and decurrency so much as it is driven in case after case by advocacy for shortterm profits for corporations unfettered by any moral or ethical consideration. We have to close that gap, and that is a moral repair and that is not only what my Campaign Stands for but what my presidency would stand for as well. Marianne williamson, were grateful to have you here this morning. Thank you, maam. Thank you. Its a shock and cruel crime, without a doubt. A restaurant manager convicted of abusing an employee and forcing him to work for years but some say his sentence is not harsh enough. Plus its one of the oldest rivalries in College Football and President Trump will be front and center when lsu takes on alabama. Coming up, the President Trumps efforts to prove he is a fan favorite. Its going to be a bigger deal because President Trump is attending tonights game. Its his third appearance at a major sporting event in two weeks. It will only add to the drama as these bitter rivals take to the field. Kaitlan collins reports. Reporter when President Trump went in the past its his own supporters cheering him on. But the last time he went to one of the major sporting events, the reaction has been mixed, at other times overwhelmingly negative. Hes leaving the white house prepared to go to another event, waiting to see what the reaction there will be. For a president who enjoys keeping score, saturdays matchup between alabama and Louisiana State university is another chance to prove hes still a fan favorite. I love alabama. Im going to go watch a very good Football Game on saturday. Reporter President Trump travels to his third major sporting event in recent weeks. I think i won by 42 points. Reporter in tuscaloosa, alabama, a state he won easily in 2016, hes hoping for a friendlier crowd than the one that greeted him in his home state last week. As trump sat rinkside at an ultimate fighting championship match, a mix of boos and cheers echoed throughout Madison Square garden, although he said it was a little bit like walking into a trump rally. Those boos not as loud as the ones that boomed in Nationals Park in wags during game five in the world series as trump was shown on the jumbotron. Surrounded by allies, trump was said not to have noticed. Even when the players come to him, the visits havent always come smoothly. I love athletics and sports, but they shouldnt get the politics involved. Reporter some teams have declined the invitation to 1600 pennsylvania avenue altogether. If they dont want to be here, i dont want them. Reporter so when Washington Nationals catcher kurt suzuki brought a mega hat to the white house, they had what some deemed a titanic moment. I love him. Reporter even before he was in office, trump had an uncomplicated relationship with sports. The whole game is screwed up. You say, wow, what a tackle. Football has become soft. Reporter now on College Football days the president can often be found on the golf course. This saturday at bryant stadium, hes hoping for a warmer welcome. You guys have really become tough. Its great. Reporter the university of alabama Student Government found itself at the center of the trumpfueled controversy after warning students they would lose their stadium privileges if there was disruptive behavior. They later walked the statement back, but another group is already planning a disruption of its own, bringing the helium filled baby trump to town. We asked why they picked this game. They never got back to us. The president said it was simply that he wanted to be around an adoring crowd. Also we should say one official with the school said its not the Football Team that extended an invitation to President Trump. Kaitlan collins, cnn, washington. Okay. Kaitlan, thanks very much. I wonder how that game is going to turn out. Lets talk about that. Yeah. What do you think . Oh, man. The stakes could not be higher. Its going to be a huge game, conference playoff, maybe even conference hopes. Alabama has beat lsu eight straight times. The big question is the health of the blame playalabama player. He had a high ankle injury. He had an injury to his other ankle. Something that the coach said has worked in his favor. He has a real positive attitude about what hes doing because hes had this same injury before. I think when you get injured, youre very apprehensive about, you know, how to go about coming back from it. But when youve had it before, i think you have a lot more positive feeling about how you can come back from it. And for lsu, its going to be on the highpowered offense, something theyre not used to in baton rouge. Joe burrow is looking forward to it. It can go either way. Were focusing more on poise, execution, character to beat them. That doesnt mean we wont be fired up. The eyes of the entire sports world on this one. And quickly bringing it back to the president , lsus quarterback joe burrow said for him as a 22yearold its pretty cool to have the president at his game this afternoon its ging to be a big one. We have several stories including growing calls to spare the life of a texas death role inmate. Heres the thing. Rodney reed has been on death row for 20 years. Hes scheduled to die on the 20th. Colleagues and others are looking to recall his case. Reeds advocates argue he didnt get a fair trial, pointing out he was convicted by an allwhite jury. Kim kardashian west and rihanna are among the selects calling for the Texas Governor to spare his life and more than 2 Million People have signed a petition online. Constitutional attorney page pate with us here. I understand the calls for the governor to stay the delay the execution. Theres a lot of evidence to consensual relationship. The dna points to that. Governor abbott of texas does have the opportunity under texas law to stop it to say, look, for 30 days im going to put a hold on this execution, im going to stay it, allow the board of pardons and parole, clemency people, to look to grant clemency. With all of this new evidence it seems really irresponsible. Youre not talking about keeping someone in prison for the rest of their life. Youre talking about killing someone. Thats right. You cant undo that. Is there any dna evidence that could claim him innocent . I dont think so. I think what we have in this case is clear evidence that someone else committed the crime. Apparently there was an individual who had a relationship with this woman at the time. He was upset that she had a relationship with mr. Reed. He had after that point been convicted of another Sexual Assault, sentenced to ten years in prison. All of that evidence pointed to him as the initial suspect, but that didnt come out during the trial. People have said, look, for him to have a fair trial f mr. Reed to actually have the opportunity to show that theres evidence that someone else did this, we need to put a hold on this and allow him to go back to court. Well see what happens. Lets talk about the College Wrestling referee who now says he complained to ohio state wrestling coaches about one of the athletic doctors but they did nothing about it. One of those at the time was jim jordan. The referee is at least the second one who told jordan about the alleged behavior by dr. Richard strauss. Congressman jordan denies knowing about any of the allegations. I know hes not even listed as one of the osu authorities to take criminal action. Hundreds of people have now come forward and said they were abused by dr. Strauss. It is unimaginable that the people who were close to the Athletic Department including someone like mr. Jordan who was an assistant wrestling coach didnt know about it. Its just hard to believe. In fact, ohio state had an independent investigation done, and that investigation found that people within the administration should have known about it, should have done something about it. So there are a number of lawsuits that eventually will work their way through the courts. And theyre strong . Yes, absolutely. And theyve claimed title ix violations which in a Sexual Assault case may seem a little odd, but title ix protects students from Sexual Harassment and thats exactly what theyre about. And we should note the doctor committed suicide. Yeah. Lets talk about this real quickly. Ten years and an order to pay restitution, this is a sentence passed down to a Restaurant Owner who beat an employee. Bobby paul edwards pled guilty to forcing his employee to work 100 hour as week without pay as physical and verbal abuse went on. Its a disgusting crime when you look at this, when you think about what this poor person went through. Is ten years enough . Thats the question a lot of people are asking. The judge certainly had the discretion. That was a sentence that was legal in the case. It sounds like slavery. It sounds like a horrible crime. In south carolina, a crime like this, aggravated assault, can carry a much tougher sentence than what he received. So i am somewhat surprised by that. Many people will say this is the type of case where we should support jury sentencing, have the case go to trial, then len a group of jurors, people from the community, decide what the sentence should be. That still happens in texas. Not in south carolina. All right. Page pate, always appreciate your being here. Thank you. The election of 2020 could include a battle of people.
